I wanted to share a afghan with everyone which I no longer have, since I donated it to help people in need. This is an original design by me, only the second one I have ever done. It was a challenge quilt, I had to use 5 yarns from the sample pack (these yarns were dark gold, beige, dark purple, orange and an orange/yellow multi blend), then I added 5 yarns of my own choice (emerald green, lime green, orchid, turquoise and a green/lavender multi blend). The afghan had to be a certain size, and be composed of blocks that encompassed both knitted and crocheted blocks (it had been a long while since I had crocheted, and this project started me on a BIG crochet kick!) It was fun to work on this project, and I plan to do it again next year. As you will notice, all four house colors are represented in this afghan.
I was always afraid to try and design anything on my own or even alter the color schemes from patterns so to anyone who has that concern I can only say - don't! You will find you are a lot more original and inventive than you would imagine once you try to design a project on your own. Start small, then grow!
I have the Charmed Knitting - Projects for Fans of Harry Potter book (essential to everyone, I would say!) and I plan to make some of the projects from the book soon, only with my variations, as well as other Harry Potter things I will be creating. (I do knitting, crochet, beading (including jewelry), embroidery, needlepoint and sewing). Stay tuned, I will post more stuff up soon!

This really reminds me of Molly Weasley; I can really imagine things like this covering the beds and living room furniture in The Burrow!!!
Well done! I can't wait to see more!

Jan - It's funny you should mention that, as I plan to make Molly's sweater from Charmed Knitting next! (Another half knit, half crocheted project). You must know how I think!
Teehee, I'm glad you like it!

Jan -
I'm working on it! I have almost finished the back of it and can't wait to finish that and the two front pieces so I can start on those sleeves! That's going to be the most challenging part of all! But it's gonna be great, because it will give me a lot of much needed experience on all the different crochet stitches. Let me see if I can do it!
The afghan only took me about a month to make. I worked on it here and there, mostly on public transit! (I love to have stuff to work on on the subway.)
I just ordered a bunch of yarn and patterns and stuff, so new projects will definitely be in the works soon.

I'm into making these cell phone holders, and I made one for the Easter egg hunt contest we are currently holding in the Graveyard, which is a very special cell phone holder because it is forest green and has a skull on it (couldn't quite find the dark mark for a button). I use a special suede type ribbon for these cell phone covers which looks very nice, and employ both stockinette stitch and single and double crochet as well as knitted I-cord. I made a companion journal as a little throw in gift, it has the dark mark on the cover and I put some snake stickers on some of the pages for decoration. There are "E"s on each page, I like to say the E is for Evil! Anyway, the contest (egg hunt) will be starting in the Graveyard on March 8, so if you want to try to win the prize, come and play! |

Thanks for all the nice compliments, I am glad you guys are enjoying seeing this stuff!
This is the latest project I made (other than the challenge stuff and some charity squares). It was kind of different, a bit challenging. It is a bed jacket, I made Slytherin type colors of various shades olive green and rusty brown (done with a variegated yarn called Boku, very nice!) There are six pieces to this jacket, the two round pieces make up the front and back and start with only a couple of stitches on a circular needle, then you do yarn over increases until there are over 200 stitches on the needle. Then you have the sleeves, of course, and the two triangular pieces which go at the top and bottom of the back part. When the jacket was finished, I wove a sheer pale green ribbon through two of the circle areas on each side and tied a bow at the very bottom triangular part. I liked the fact that this was a unique pattern, I definitely like things that are a bit different, and challenging!
I will show front and back views of this bed jacket (which I think will probably make someone a nice gift, unless I decide to keep it!) |

I could totally see Molly wearing this. Just because it's got green doesn't mean it's just Slytherin.
Awesome work!!!

It's been a while since I've added anything in here. Well, I will be working on something very soon, so stay posted! (I've just been very busy with other projects, et cetera.) Actually, I'm working on some stuff now, the Death Eater challenge is over but I'm making something for that, anyway, better late than never, and I am trying to think up something to do for the new Hex challenge. That one is really bogging me down!
Update: Check Craft Challenges #3, #6 and #7. I have posted new photos and/or projects!

Okay, so here's the project I've been working on for the past 4 months, believe it or not, it took that much time! It started out as a photograph of Pike's Peak, which I then charted myself, adding in a few essential details (like that house with the red roof, since you have to use five key colors, red being one of them, and it must be a landscape or wildlife scene of some sort). This one had lots and lots of intarsia knitting, loads of bobbins and colors getting in the way, that was the main thing.
I don't even have the afghan anymore, like the other one I made last year, it has gone to charity. (Hey, I do this every year! I just enjoy contributing.)
So, this is the third afghan I designed completely on my own! I'm getting good at this! (The second one is found in my first post in this thread, the first one I wish I could show you, because it was the prettiest of all. Those pics were on my old cellphone, which crashed.) I took this picture right after I finished, before I hooked in all the loose threads or blocked it or anything. But you can get a pretty good idea of what it looks like!
