| | The Costume Closet “In theatre we reach out and touch the past through literature, history and memory so that we might
receive and relive significant and relevant human qualities in the present” Anne Bogart
Nestled in an otherwise blank wall near the History of Magic classroom is a small wooden door with a simple sign reading ‘Costume Closet’. Professor Fergersnout is a huge fan of the theatrical and has utilised this empty space to store a host of costumes and props for students to borrow.
Along the left hand wall are hanging rails full to the brim with period clothing and replicas as well as fantastical and unusual pieces appropriate for any time and any play. Typical of the Professor, the costumes haven’t been arranged by type or size so it may take a little time to rummage through until you find what you want. Above the rails are a series of mannequin heads displaying headpieces including hats, masks and wigs. A small step ladder has been provided for the vertically challenged should they not want to use levitation, just be extra careful when getting these down.
To the right of hanging rails is a shelving unit jammed full of lightweight props and replicas, housing everything from fake beards to swords made of foam. A small room behind a curtain sits nearby to act as a dressing room inside which is mounted a mirror on the wall.
The rest of the room is allocated to a small podium like stage and a single padded bench, long enough to seat 4 people comfortably. Students are welcome to use this space to practice their monologues, show off their costumes to friends or get ready for a spontaneous performance. Sadly the room is nowhere near large enough for a theatre or else Professor Fergersnout might’ve built her own Ampitheatre inside.
Don’t forget to sign out pieces on the sheet by the door on your way out. |

| for Lottie and Madam 'Snout Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight It hadn't taken Charlie very long to find this room - discounting the second week of term, that is, when he had been decommissioned and out of classes with a not-all-that-surprising period of illness - given his propensity to poke about and discover what was hidden and where. After happening upon this one, he made a mental note of it, and then returned once he'd been through every other corridor and classroom (at least as far as he could determine) and whatever else had piqued his interest.
And now he was back, because a room full of costumes and props was not the kind of thing to immediately derail Charlie Upstead, but it was still worth rummaging through.
After shutting the door behind him and waiting out a short coughing fit brought on by the walk here, he rifled through the racks, seeking something on the more subtle end of theatrical scale but ultimately finding nothing usable. These weren't just costumes but Costumes™. So then it just turned to a casual browse, with no real end goal in sight. Something to keep his hands occupied, as they did seem to enjoy finding trouble when he was left to his own devices... and there was an awful lot of that, now he was at Hogwarts.
Being left to his own devices, that is. Not finding trouble. Never, actually.
Having climbed a stepladder to grab a hat that could conceivably be a Robin Hood type situation, Charlie leapt back down from the top step in the direction of the props. He grabbed a sword, but knew even from the first day he'd stuck his head in here that it wasn't a real one, only foam.
Spinning the fake sword in his hand almost absentmindedly, Charlie let his eye rove around the little costume closet, definitely not defaulting to the seeking out of trouble. Never, actually.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Professor Fergersnout’s weird and wonderful assortment of costumes and props had become her pride and joy since utilising the spare room near her office. The purpose behind it was to encourage creative outlets in the students but to be honest whatever they wanted to use the private space for she didn’t mind as long as it didn’t break school rules.
She hadn’t expected there to be a student inside which could explain the slightly startled look on her face as she pushed open the door to a child swinging about a foam sword. “Oh hello Captain” she overdramatically bowed to the young one, instantly assuming that like most young lads the sword meant he wished to be a pirate and completely ignoring the Robin Hood type hat that would tell her otherwise.
Now what Charlie’s purpose was in the room she did not know but now that she was here he was stuck with the woman. She grabbed a foam sword for herself, tucking one arm behind her back and holding the other with the sword in it out in front of her pointing towards him. “En Garde!” Her floor length bright orange robes might not have been particularly practical for a sword fight reenactment but nevermind. Should the event happen that she tripped over her own feet it would be quite an amusing sight for the first year.

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Looking towards the door as it opened, Charlie resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow at the antics of the woman who entered. Professor, whichever. If he had not already seen enough of how Fergersnout operated, he might have suspected that this was another case of someone noting his height, his cherubic features, and his status as a first year, and immediately deciding he was something more on par with a five- or six-year-old. Ultimately, however, he suspected this was just the way she happened to be.
Captain. Hm. Not what he was going for - had he been going for anything? hard to say - but Charlie went with it. He didn't bow back, but span the sword once more, and offered a grin. "Madam Historian."
Even with all he'd observed about the woman so far, Charlie could not honestly say that he expected her to initiate a fake muggle duel in the next instant... but then, he wasn't surprised either. He held up the sword, eyes darting briefly to the floor where the hem of the professor's robes reached the ground, and then around her immediate vicinity for any potential trip hazards. If this was where he now found himself - sword-fighting with a teacher, and not even with real weapons, but playing - he may as well have fun with it. "I'm not much of a fencer," he said, so very humbly. He supposed it was true, anyway, though not for lack of trying to get into some kind of swordsmanship. More of an archer. His dad, for some weird reason, hadn't wanted to arm Charlie or his quadruplet siblings with swords of any kind, but had finally relented with the archery, probably after Mum told him off for saying 'no' to everything else. That wasn't to say Charlie hadn't done his fair share of wielding sticks, old piping, misplaced wands, or any other pseudo-swords throughout his childhood. In that regard, he knew how swordplay was done, and so he did it - though those days were, in his opinion, far behind him - leaping forward and brandishing the foam weapon in challenge.
Far behind him the days of childish games may be, but more important games lay before him, like, for example, finding favour with the powers that be.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Fergersnout was of the opinion that age rarely mattered when it came to ‘playing’ and having fun. As one of the Professors who ran Drama Club and who invested a lot of her own time prior to teaching at Hogwarts reenacting historical events in a performance troop, she rather enjoyed spending the time pretending to be someone else. Besides, being oneself all the time would inevitably become monotonous and boring and it was quite clear that she considered herself far from that. Whether Charlie was a first year or not didn’t even flicker into her mind and had it been a seventh year or even a fellow Professor she had spotted holding the sword she would’ve engaged them in playful combat too.
She wasn’t particularly fond of the ‘Madam’ with the assumption it made her sound far older than her measles forty-eight years, however let it slide on this occasion considering the Historian title was one she was rather proud of. “Were you looking for anything in particular?” She didn’t want to intrude on his browsing but seeing as she had built this place herself, her understanding of its inventory was exemplary.
Apollonia herself was not well-versed in the world of hand-to-hand combat either, the majority of the battles she had vast knowledge of used wandwork and spells to achieve greatness but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a go. “Neither is your opponent. That makes us well matched then” she chortled. Other than the fact that she was slightly taller, far older and arguably wiser although whether any of those actually gave HER an advantage was questionable.
The sword was suddenly being jabbed in her direction and the Professor had to quickly lean back to avoid the contact. “Excellent attempt youngling but not fast enough.” She stepped forward, thankfully her feet not making contact with her robe and jabbed the foam sword forward aiming for the first year's left side.
