| | Studious Nook On the other side of the common room, away from the game corner for obvious reason, you can find the study tables. It's all fun and game in Gryffindor until someone gets a T on the next pop quiz.
Looking for a place to unwind? Library overcrowded with Ravenclaws? Come plop down in one of several comfy chairs at this sturdy, oak table. The immediate area has been charmed making it more quiet than the rest of the common room and by the table sits a bookshelf of moderate size. Nothing too grand but enough to possibly save you a trip downstairs to get your homework done.
If you've got no intention of studying, please don't disrupt those that do. Remember, just because you don't want to pass your OWLs, doesn't mean the next wizard or witch doesn't want to either.

| Open! Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch Had he ever used, like actually used, this part of the common room for its intended purpose? The answer to that question would have been no, though today would have been a rare sight indeed for any Gryffindor who passed by. Logan had taken one of the chairs at the oak table and -- yes, there was no mistaking it -- he was reading. The noticeable thickness of the book would, especially to those who were observant, make the text easily identifiable as A History of Magic.
Today's topic of study was the Chipping Clodbury Riot. In theory, it sounded interesting. But, of course, reading about it did the historical event no favours. To him, Bagshot's writing was just so boring. Not long into opening up to the right chapter and processing the first opening paragraphs, his blue eyes started to droop. In the town of Chipping Clodbury, Ministry officials met with the Brotherhood of Goblins (B.O.G.) ... blah, blah, blah ... The meeting was to discuss the creation of a Goblin Bill of Rights ... blah, blah, blah ... The discussion was suddenly interrupted by a group of goblins who had obtained wands ...
Before making it to the bottom of the first page, the open textbook was being used as a pillow, and snores were sounding from the fifth year's mouth.

Before making it to the bottom of the first page, the open textbook was being used as a pillow, and snores were sounding from the fifth year's mouth. The Studious Nook, as it were, happened to be one of Betony's favourite parts of the Common Room. It tended to be quieter over here, though it still felt close enough to whatever was happening in the rest of the Common Room so she didn't feel completely left out. Getting involved in the (often rambunctious) activities of the other Gryffindors was still something she was trying to work her way up to, though, given she seemed to be way less outgoing comparably.
But no matter. With the fourth year notes Mozart had given her (and the fact that she'd studied them over the summer), Betony was feeling rather more confident this year. Not, like, completely confident, of course, but at least she was sure she wouldn't fail due to a lack of effort. She pulled the notes from her bag and riffled through them, looking for the specific transfiguration topic her homework was on as she pulled a chair out.
It was then that she noticed the snores. Following the sound, she noticed the boy who seemed to have been bored to sleep by his book, and couldn't help but smile a little. Before clearing her throat rather loudly. And then speaking. "Excuse me?"
She couldn't very well get her homework done with that noise distracting her.

She couldn't very well get her homework done with that noise distracting her. It could have been the countless hours of studying he had been doing lately, Bagshot's drab historical writing, the charms placed on this part of the common room to make it quiet, or a combination of the three that had caused the fifth year to doze off to sleep. Regardless of how not very comfortable the book and table were in comparison to his bed upstairs, Logan was a prime example of how he could quickly fall asleep anywhere. In fact, the beginning of a dream was already underway.
The events unfolding in his mind were quite lackluster. All he was doing in his subconscious was, ironically, sitting at the table in the study nook, reading about some historical event. However, things took a turn for the better when a certain brunette fifth year made an appearance and grabbed the book from his hands, which caused him to chase after her all around the common room. Laughter filled the room as they ran around the sofa closest to the fireplace.
Back in reality, the fourth year clearing her throat and speaking did nothing to wake Logan from his slumber. The snoring continued. If one looked closely, drool was starting to drip from his mouth onto a page of the open book his head was resting on.

If one looked closely, drool was starting to drip from his mouth onto a page of the open book his head was resting on. Betony shuffled her feet, wondering how on Earth she was supposed to wake the boy. She felt cruel even doing so, but he was snoring and... was that drool? Either way, she thought as she tugged on one of her braids, she wouldn't be able to concentrate, and perhaps he needed to finish whatever work he had been working on before he'd fallen asleep.
Maybe he was on a deadline.
The redhead dithered over the thought for a moment longer, feet shuffling on the carpet. Steeling herself with a deep breath, and another tug on her braid, Bet stepped forward and nudged the boys shoulder. As soon as it was done, she jumped back a foot (or three). Because personal space was important.

At this point, the boy was trying to grab onto her so he could get that book back. An unexpected leap over the sofa brought the chase to an end as they both went tumbling to the ground, a little squeal sounding and the book sliding across the floor. Then there was a moment of silence as the two looked at each other until his face suddenly moved closer toward hers and --
Feeling something nudge his shoulder, Logan jolted awake. A very confused, or perhaps disappointed, expression grew on his face. He was still sitting at the table, the history textbook was wide open, and ... why was there a puddle on the page? He blinked and looked around, his eyes quickly landing on Betony. It then all clicked in his mind: he feel asleep and had been dreaming.
"How long was I out for?" he asked as he wiped the sleep from his eyes and then attempted to pat the wet textbook page dry.

"How long was I out for?" he asked as he wiped the sleep from his eyes and then attempted to pat the wet textbook page dry. A part of Betony (probably the same part that nagged her when she completed homework and told her it wasn't up to par) worried that her nudge hadn't been enough, and that Logan would go on sleeping despite her attempts to wake him. This same part wondered if that were the case, should she try again or just find somewhere else to study? The latter was tempting, given she didn't really want to encroach on his personal space again, or look stupid (feel stupid) if it failed a second time.
She glanced over her shoulder, for a moment convinced that someone was watching her feeble attempts to wake the boy and laughing. Of course no one was, but she still felt a weird, lingering insecurity.
Which was only tempered slightly when she turned back and he was properly awake. As for his question - Betony shrugged, a slightly blush decorating her freckled cheeks. "I... I don't really know," she answered apologetically, making no move to sit down just yet. "I've only just come over, so... But I don't think it was that long?"
Her face told him that she had no clue, though.

Her face told him that she had no clue, though. His attempt to dry off the page of his textbook did more harm than good. The page wound up smudged and torn. Luckily the blond was not your stereotypical Ravenclaw, who probably would have made an entire ordeal about such a thing happening to a book. Instead, he gave up on the patting and let it be. Hopefully there weren't many questions about the Chipping Clodbury Riot on the History of Magic OWL exam this year.
Blue eyes glanced over to Betony when her cheeks started to blush. Any other person probably would have noticed and made a comment, but not this Gryffindor. Had she been someone else, maybe things would have been different.
"Oh." At this point he wasn't sure if he should apologize or not, considering she had just got to the nook. And the fact that this part of the common room wasn't exactly popular and had been empty when he had arrived there left him to believe he hadn't disturbed anyone else. Hmm. "Well ... feel free to grab a seat. Maybe someone around will keep me from falling asleep again," he laughed.

Betony couldn't help but watch the way Logan tried to dry the page, and she winced a little at the resultant rip. It wasn't that she thought all books were sacred, or that she couldn't stand the idea of them being a little worn - she was a self confessed dog-earer herself. But it was just that now it was unreadable, and what if someone else needed that bit of information? Of course most people had their own books, but some of hers were hand-me-downs, and she figured that eventually she'd hand hers down, too. Or donate them.
But anyway. Logans book wasn't her problem, and she dragged her gaze back to the boys face instead of his book. She offered a small smile at his laugh. "Maybe. If not, I'm sure I can nudge you again," she offered. Though, she thought as she pulled a chair out, if he did fall asleep again the chance was she'd just get up and try to find somewhere else to do her homework. And let him sleep.

Though, she thought as she pulled a chair out, if he did fall asleep again the chance was she'd just get up and try to find somewhere else to do her homework. And let him sleep. He was not nearly as concerned about the book as Betony may have been. This was largely because the textbook was his own, which honestly he hadn't used much until this school year and didn't plan on using again after OWL exams were done. It probably could have been passed on to someone, even with the missing information about the goblin riot, but that much hadn't crossed the boy's mind. As far as he was concerned, the rest of the book was still readable and he could always ask Vasco or Vera or Sable for the information.
A small smile appeared on his lips at the fourth year's offer. "That'd be appreciated. OWL year is rough," he replied as she settled in. "But I'll try not to dose off." Try was the key word there; it would be easier said than done, especially when History of Magic was the study material. Nevertheless, he would genuinely do his best not to fall asleep at the table again.
"What's on your study agenda today?" Odds were it was something he'd have to review at some point.
