 At the very top of the West Tower is where all owls, whether belonging to you individually or the school, reside. As you ascend the tower and its many stairs, constant hooting can be heard and you can feel the temperature gradually dropping. Once you open the door, you can feel a draft blowing straight at you because there is no glass where the windows would be. A few owls flutter in and out of the windows as the door closes.
Stepping deeper into the owlery, hundreds of owls lining the walls in their little nooks turn their head at you. Some even swoop down from their perches to say hello in the hopes that you'll give them a few owl treats that are in a closed bag inside a drawer of an old wooden desk that was placed in the centre of the room. If you investigate the desk further, you will find spare ink, quills, and parchment should you need to write a letter on the spot if you aren't here to just check up on the owls. Pellets, old animal skeletons, belladonna berries, and owl droppings cover the floor, so watch your step.

If one were to list the best places for art, the Owlery was unlikely to make that list. Unconventional as it may be, it was precisely the place Mitsuki wanted to be with her watercolor set. Tugging her Ravenclaw scarf more tightly around her neck and lower part of her face, she quietly moved about the chilly room until she was just about at the center of the space surrounded by nooks occupied by owls in various stages of rest. Her feet kicked some owl pellets and rodent bones aside to clear a space for her to work and soon she was kneeling and placing a tiny little bowl with a tiny mountain of salt inside it.
Humming a peppy tune to herself, Mitsuki tied her long raven hair up into a messy bun (a few strands missing capture and hugged the sides of her face) and turned to
the first blank page of her watercolor book. She smoothed the page down and set it on the ground while she prepared her paints and brushes, hazel-green eyes flicking upwards every now and then to see what particular sight may inspire her today, and settled back on her heels. It took a couple more moments of pensive silence before she was tickled by something, and soon she was dipping her brush into water to prepare her paper for the gradient of greys and blues she had envisioned for a background.

Edric had a letter to send.
Nothing important, in his opinion, nothing too long or interesting or dramatic. Just the usual yes, I'm fine, the train ride was fine, classes are going fine, sorry I haven't written yet, yes, I signed up for the career advice, yes, I'm getting enough sleep at night and yes, I ate some vegetables at dinner even though that dinner was several days ago, etc. Twas the usual family catch-up letter.
Having refused to take anything to school that would make him look uncool or like a try-hard, Ed had to resort to using a school owl, who refused to budge until the letter was triple-tied to its leg and it was pre-rewarded with treats. He sighed as the owl took off, flipping his scarf back and shaking back his longish hair as he looked around at the other owls. He nearly jumped as he realized someone else was here.
How had he walked in right behind her...? And just didn't observe her...? This lack of awareness for his surroundings was a known failing with Edric, and one which may as yet end in his demise. The girl was humming and everything, hardly trying to be invisible. Naturally, though, he was going to go and ruin her peace, albeit unintentionally. Intentionally, he was just going to ask for a piece of paper.
"'Scuse me," Ed tap-tapped on her shoulder, then tapped a few more times. "Can I have a bit of that?" He nodded toward the paper. "It's for something very important."

Mitsuki had finished sectioning off the grey areas and was moving on to blending in some blues with varying depths when the air around her shifted and the dust particles danced in front of her face and swirled around her brush. Something was moving, approaching, and it was not an owl. The subtle crunch of clearly human feet upon the ground certainly narrowed down the possibilities further and the Ravenclaw was straightening her posture and slowly turning her head to great her company before they spoke and mere seconds before they made physical contact.
Mild disappointment flexed between her brows briefly, but appearances were not always what they seemed.
Seeing no reason why she could not afford him a bit of paper, Mitsuki's hazel green eyes first flicking to his fingers upon her shoulder and then turned her attention to her watercolor book. The page seemed to have dried well enough, and even if it hadn't then those drippings could simply be part of the aesthetic, so she turned it over and flipped to the middle pages to tear the sheet out for him. "Okay," she replied softly while offering him the piece - technically two pieces depending on your perspective.

Well that was easy... and surprisingly nice of her, considering what Edric was going to do with said paper. "Thanks!" he replied with a slightly manic grin, giving her shoulder a squeeze as he loped off back to the window.
His back was to her so she couldn't see what he was doing with the paper, but ~a short while later~ he straightened up, a paper airplane perched in his fingertips and ready for takeoff. Hang on though. One thought.
"Do you happen to know any spells that will send this like really really far?" Ed's nose was scrunched up as though he were trying to recall one himself. Didn't hurt to ask, though, considering she was in the smart house.

Sometimes it was the simple things in life that elicited the most joy. Though his obvious glee over receiving a bit of parchment had her questioning his existence. Not in the condescending way that that may read, but in a manner that caused her to speculate what made up his magical DNA. Another curious specimen.
Whatever he did with the paper was of little consequence to her, it was his now to do with as he pleased, and thus Mitsuki returned her attention to her own painting and adding additional details and shading to the background. It was a short lived attempt, however, and now her thoughts were flooded with spells instead of watercolor paints.
The simple answer was no, she did not know any spells specifically designed for paper airplanes to soar far distances. She also recognized that, perhaps, that was not specifically what he was asking, not as literal a question as she tended to interpret these things, and once she stripped herself of this it became a little easier to parse together a response. "The Banishing Charm may be efficient in such a task," she mused while tapping her cheek with the bottom of her brush.
