| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Keighley was pretty good at many things but dueling wasn't one of them. Martial Arts was more of her thing. This was why she was here. To learn and to get better at what she knew she needed to work on. "Hello, Sir." She greeted Professor Khanna with a warm smile as she made her way to the center of the Dueling Arena. Taking a minute or two to have a quick look around to familiarize herself with the area. "Hello, Fynley. Good luck." Keighley smiled softly at her partner. "I'm ready if you are." With that said, the sixth year bowed respectfully towards Fynley before even thinking about taking her wand from its holster and readying herself for what she hoped would be a competitive duel.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Fynley was quite fond of Defence Against the Dark Arts as a subject. Perhaps because it was very practical focused and although there was some theory to it, there wasn’t so much reading from a textbook but rather getting to actually use all these spells he had learned about. He wasn’t typically the type to sign up for extra curricular activities and would usually be found trying to breeze his way through school with putting as little effort in as he could get away with. The problem this year was that it was his OWL year and if he wanted to leave Hogwarts with some decent grade, it would be wise to get some form of practice in.
He arrived at his assigned time with one minute to spare with the intention of not looking overly eager but still not keeping everyone else waiting. His opponent, a slightly older student who he wasn’t so familiar with yet, was already stood alongside the Professor. He nodded in Professor Khanna’s direction in his usual greeting before turning back to face Keighley.
Was Fynn nervous? Maybe a tiny bit but he certainly wasn’t showing it. “Ready as I’ll ever be” he answered, his lips curling up into a small smile in an attempt to appear confident. A number of spells may have been scrawled in ink on the back of the fifth years hand for his memory wasn’t always the best although he doubted he would even have the chance to look and they had already been smeared into an almost unreadable state. He also felt like he had a slight disadvantage considering he had been educated at Ilvermorny for the previous four years and the curriculum may have been a little different. Still he was up for the challenge and it wasn’t like there was any backing out now.
The Slytherin nodded his head in a quick bow before withdrawing his wand from the holster and preparing himself for the duel to commence. “Ladies first.” he smirked.

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Keighley paid attention in her lessons, all of them. Even the ones she wasn't all that great in. In only meant she had to put more effort into those and that was alright. A little hard work never hurt anyone. And she wasn't afraid to put in the work wherever it was needed.
With her opponent arriving when he had, Keighley had more time to take in everything around her and run over some spells in her mind. Some a little more helpful than others or so she thought. Really she wasn't too sure which ones she might be needing today.
Keighley smiled. "Fair enough." She wasn't sure she was ready either. This was different and yet the same as her Martial Arts competitions. It was one of one and they would be scored but here they had wand. She was really going to need to think but quickly. This would either go her way or it wouldn't.
The blonde Hufflepuff blinked at Fynlyn. "If you say so." She wasn't one to care about that but whatever made him happy was fine with her. There wasn't really any point in arguing and wasting time either. So without future ado Keighley quietly cast 'Flipendo Duo' and 'Incarcerous' in quick secession choosing to keep it relatively simple to start.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Although the bank of spells Fynley knew had been limited by what he could store in his head that morning, there was a number that he had been particularly keen to memorise. Perhaps most important was finding a way to protect himself from any incoming attack so that even if he was unable to duel back at least he wouldn’t be making a fool of himself and letting his opponent get away with it. Still he had made sure to keep a few special spells hidden up his sleeve for an occasion like today.
Keighley looked a little confused by his manners but he simply grinned back at her and braced himself for the incoming impact. She didn’t hang about either as two spells came towards him in quick succession. “Protego” the Slytherin exclaimed swishing his wand downwards and watching as an invisible shield protected him, deflecting the spell away with ease. Likewise Fynn had decided to keep it quite simple for the first couple of spells, he already had the disadvantage of being a year younger and therefore not quite as advanced in his spell casting. “Rictusempra” he threw back towards Keighley in the hope that the extreme tickling would be enough to temporarily distract her.

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium When it came down to saying what spells this girl knew, well, she knew more than some might think. This not only came from all of her own studies but also from helping her family and partners study too. Which came in hand when those she tended to work with most were older than her, like her brother Jude who had graduated the year before. It wasn't just about knowing the spells though, oh no, she had to know how to be able to cast them properly too. That was most important. That's where working with Jude had come in when he had been studying for his NEWTs and now the same went for studying with Livvy and Charlie. Only this wasn't studying or some random practice session, this was a duel and she needed to be one step ahead.
Confused, no. Finding it mildly silly, yes. Simply because she was a female didn't mean she should have to go first. It was like her telling to him to go first because he was younger. Anyhow it was what it was, she was used to the 'ladies' first tactic whenever she went head to head against a male. Which was more often than not. Keighley expected Fynley to easily block her spells since she had used such simply ones. The moment she saw his shield go up she readied herself to dodge out of the way of whatever he tossed her way. The tickling charm, not bad but no luck.
With a sweet smile as quickly as she moved out of the way of his spell, she was already sending one his way. Very softly she cast this one hoping to catch him a little more off-guard. "Orbis." How he would deal with being sucked into the ground like being stuck in quicksand would be interesting.. if her spell caught hold of him that is.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Fynn wasn’t intentionally trying to offend her over his manners or anything. He was simply being Fynn and seeing as she had arrived first it was only fair to let her start anyway. He could’ve said elders first but he thought that would’ve been more offensive.
Anyway.. they had started now so surely it didn’t matter?
The fifth year hasn’t expected his spell to have made much of a difference yet and Keighley obviously found it easy to dodge out of the way rather than cast a protective spell. The Slytherin grinned at his opponent practically egging her on for the next set of spells which came in quick succession after his own. Suddenly the ground around him collapsed in as he felt as if he was being sucked into a pit of quicksand. There was a very brief flash of worry on his face as he tried to remember a counterspell to counteract the effects. “Finite Incantatem” he swooshed his wand as the vice like grip of the imaginary quicksand started to dissipate and he returned back to normal.
Now it was his turn. “Langlock” he pointed his wand towards his target hoping that his spell would literally render her speechless by gluing her tongue to the roof of her mouth. Duelling would be much easier if his opponent couldn’t speak. “Ebublio!” Came his next spell.

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium All was well, Fynley. This was a friendly duel and manners were always a very nice thing to have. Keighley may have just been being a little touchy without meaning to be, it was no fault of his.
Now that they had begun, all was already forgotten. Her focus needed to be on the duel and the young man across from her at all times.
Should he know that his grinning at her did nothing. She was beyond used to being egged on by others out on the mat during competitions. Once her head was in the game, the blonde didn't take her eyes off of him. Her spell took hold of him just as she hoped it would but all too quickly, Fynn seemed to remember how to cancel it. As soon as the ground around him started returning to normal a very quick, "Protego Horribilis" was cast by her in hopes of not only protecting herself from his incoming spells but maybe even rebounding them back at him.
Only.. maybe she had cast it a little too quickly. The first of his spells hit her shield like it should and the second well.. that's where her shield faltered. This she only truly found out when she went to send a spell back and found that she couldn't. Okay, right. Not going to panic. Won't panic. Just going to... "Finite." Why, yes. She could manage non-verbals. Not many and not easily. It sort of took her a few tries and this probably showed but she did get it to work. A brief look of triumph in her blue eyes before she quickly sent her next set of spells. "Fumos," she muttered this one softly, quickly following it up with, "Incarcerous." If the dark cloud of smoke didn't do anything then maybe it would distract long enough for the ropes to tie him up.

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Fynley was clearly not taking this quite as seriously as his opponent was. The smiles he was sending in her direction weren’t intended on being intimidating nor were they supposed to be distracting. Fynn was just a generally friendly person who was using this duelling club in the hopes that he might be able to get a good enough grade in his practical exams that his inevitable written exam failures wouldn’t drag his grade down too much. That and duelling was somewhat fun.
His tongue-tying charm seemed to have worked for long enough that she was temporarily maimed by the inability to talk. He took the opportunity to send forward a quick Cracker Jinx dodging out of the way of the spell as to hopefully not cause himself any damage. Unfortunately Keighley was able to produce a non-verbal spell and the effects of his Langlock didn’t last much longer.
Suddenly the arena became obscured with a cloud of smoke from his opponents Fumos spell. He wafted his hand in front of his face in an attempt to see through the fumes enough to spot where Keighley had moved to. By the time he was able to see again he was in the process of being tied up by a bundle of ropes. “Cheeky!” he commented referring to the fact she had cast a spell that he was yet to have learned as a fifth year. The only problem with that was that he had also yet to learn the counterspell. “A little help here Professor” he chuckled turning to the supervising Professor Khanna.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Dhruv had been hanging back in the shadows the entire time. They had been leaning against one of the dummies in the corner watching the excellent match unfold before them. They made mental notes of any weaknesses and strengths being displayed by both students. Part of their strategy in providing a dueling experience: to give feedback.
It was quite clear that Keighley was the more determined of the two today; she was laser-sharp focused. Fynley had his starring moments too, especially when it came to wand movements and spells that he had chosen. Joining in on the Ravenclaw’s chuckling as they pushed themself from the sturdy dummy, Dhruv joined the students. “I see you’ve found yourself in quite the predicament, Mr. Ellis,’’ they teased before lifting a hand to perform the counterspell. The ropes vanished in a heartbeat. “Are both of you well? No need to visit the Healer?” They needed to be sure the students’ health was in tip-top condition, you know. “That was quite the battle. I hope you each saw something in your skills you could improve the next time you have a duel?” |

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Keighley truthfully couldn't have been more focused on their duel if she had tried. That's what a duel required, was it not? Focus and a quick hand and mind. It also helped to be fast on ones feet but this time around she hadn't really needed to worry about her agility levels or skills. Maybe another time she would get to show how well she did without having to cast many protective charms.
The cloud of smoke she had cast moments earlier, did exactly what she wanted it to. It had made it difficult for her opponent to see her follow up spell that she had sent his way. The only issue with this was, it also made it hard for her to see clearly as well. So had it not been for Fynley calling out to her, she might not have realized it she had successfully tied him up in ropes. "It isn't! Not really." She was using spells to her advantage, yes.. but she also didn't know for sure which ones he already knew or didn't know. There was a chance that he was further ahead of his peers and would've been able to overcome them. This didn't appear to be the case however.
Now, Keighley could've very easily taken care of the smoke and the ropes but there was no need. Professor Khanna was already there and handling it. The man was quick! "I'm quite alright, Sir." There was no need for the Healer today. "I did." She smiled softly, nodding her head. Her timing and combinations of spell work was what she wanted to work more on. "If you're ever up for it Fynley, I'd be happy to have another duel with you sometime.. or even just practice our spell casting together." Having someone else to practice with was always a good thing and maybe they could even learn something from one another.
