Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

She was feeling particularly jittery. There were… a lot of new things in the young French girl's life. A new home, a new bedroom, a new father, a new sister… and now it was off to the new school where she would hopefully meet new friends. The one thing that had been a consistent from past life to all this… newness, had been Davet. Naturally this must have meant he was to be her companion in her Disney journey. Maybe her Jiminiy Cricket, or Pascal, or Olaf! Or if she wanted to go by region of birth alone, she could call him Lumiere and be done with the comparison.
But the problem with Davet being her constant… was he couldn't at Hogwarts. Her dear cousin didn't even know about this portion of her life, which meant once she was there and struggling her trials (namely Sophie, she was sure) the information she would be able to give would be very limited.
All of this led up to the rising sixth year feeling very alone as she located an empty compartment in the middle of the train. She would probably make friends, hopefully, but even then it was still more… newness. Some familiarity was what she truly craved. But outside of the new pip-step… it was unlikely she would find it.
The girl heaved a heavy sigh, before rifling through her bag and pulling out a chocolate frog in order to eat her feelings, empty casing dropping onto her brown skirt that she’d added some patches too. It felt fitting that today her outfit feel Cinderella - but specifically pre-Fairy Godmother.

This was actually his first {and thankfully the last} year at Hogwarts without Evan. Of course Jude had come to this realisation a long time ago but he had refrained from thinking about it too much. It was only now that he was on the Hogwarts Express did he allow himself to fully feel. And since the boy was already missing Davet and Reagan? Well… let’s just say it was really a lot for him to be carrying around right now. At least there was Keighley and his many cousins about; they would definitely be there to entertain him. Not to mention NEWTs.
“Welcome to your final year, Jude,’’ the seventeen year old muttered. A year from now, he’d be off to WADA with Rea, and hopefully he’d start making bigger steps towards the career he wanted. Somewhat lost in his thoughts, he had barely been looking into the compartments as he passed them and actually had to retrace his steps after registering a rather familiar figure. His eyes had deceived him, right?
No… there she was, as clear as day.
In shock, Jude slid the compartment door open. “Minnie Mouse! What are you doing here?!” It was a stupid question but given the circumstances… Jude, Davet and Mouse had hung out together during the summer but there hadn’t been a single shred of sign that would have made him question Mouse being a witch.

Considering she had already come to the conclusion she would know no one, Mouse was shamelessly on her third chocolate frog - all the wrappings in her lap - by the time she heard her name being called. It perhaps took her even longer than to look towards the door. In her knowledge, there had been one person on this train thus far who knew her name. One. And it was certainly not a male voice that would have been calling it.
And yet... There in the doorway stood a familiar face, and Mouse's mouth dropped open in shock. "Jude?!" her eyes must have been playing tricks on her, right? There was no way her cousin's boyfriend was here. And yet...
Wait. Did that mean Davet DID potentially know about the magical world? She had never been in a relationship with a muggle, or any relationship, so she was not sure when one dropped the "I'm magic" bomb. "well, I'm going to Hogwarts! Do you go to Hogwarts?!"

In Jude’s opinion, Mouse looked right at home; as though this was something she had been doing for the past six years: eating Chocolate Frogs on the Express as everyone zipped for Hogwarts. Mouse looked as shocked as he was and the way she said his name confirmed this.
The boy too was wondering if Davet knew about all things magic. Lately he had been wanting even more to share this side of him with his boyfriend and had even considered speaking to his parents about the best way to go about doing so. But if Dav already knew on account of Mouse, didn’t this make things easier?
Duh, of course she was going to Hogwarts. “Of course I am.” Jude took a deep breath. Those words sounded a little rude; he needed to get a grip on himself. “Is it okay if I come in or are you expecting your sister alone?”

Thankfully there wasn't much difference between the carriages and the Hogwarts Express. Not in terms of how the ride felt, anyways, which was probably why at the very least this part felt semi normal and she could just eat her candy to pass the time. Though... The amount was certainly abnormal for her.
The words, either her own which could have been taken rudely, or his were not seen as such by the girl. She was in far too much shock to take offense. Besides, even if it HAD sounded rude, she had spent a good deal of time around Jude and heard about him even more throughout the summer and she was fairly convinced already there wasn't a rude bone in the boys body. "oh, I'm sorry! Please, come in!" Even if Sophie was wanting to ride with, she didn't mind having an excuse for why the girl would then not want to.
Plus. She had a fair amount of questions. And she supposed he did too.

Jude needed to shake the shock off. But it appeared as though he would continue to be shooketh for at least the entire journey. On a regular encounter, the boy would have felt spectacularly wracked with guilt and would have apologised for, what was in his opinion, a snappy remark. This one was clearly not one of his and Mouse’s hangout times such as those during the holidays though.
“Thank you,’’ he said in his quiet voice before turning to slide the compartment door shut. Jude then moved over to the seat opposite to Mouse and sat down. He focused on her face as though searching for answers to all the questions he had. But of course those questions needed to be voiced. There was one important one; the main question.

As surprised as she was, Mouse felt that perhaps Jude was even more so. So when the boy let himself into the compartment and took the seat opposite her, she straightened her back and stared at him in return - allowing him to ask the first question, even if there was a million she was dying to ask. Most related to Davet, but also.. perhaps a few about Hogwarts and his own magical journey.
Or how neither had been able to deduce the other was magic. Shouldn't witches and wizards have some sort of... Radar about that? Perhaps she'd try to invent one in later years of her life. Or more likely pitch it to someone who might be capable of inventing it.
For now, back to the question though. Which... Sounded a lot like Dav wouldn't know about Jude's magical ability either. "No. He doesn't. All of our family is non-magical." except for apparently that one squib somewhere in the bloodline that she couldn't locate, "My parents always thought it was better to keep this a secret. It's partly why we never visited a lot." They never did trust her to not spill the entire secret to her cousin.
A smart decision on their end.

Jude was THAT surprised, enough to make him wonder how many people he would meet in the future and wouldn’t realise that they just might have magical blood in them. It wasn’t something he had thought about before but there it was. It sort of gave him a new outlook on the Mundane and Magical worlds.
His eyes remained glued to Mouse’s face. At least his brain had finally caught up to the situation and was trying to put questions in order of importance to ask of Mouse. Jude nodded a bit, silent as he put the information shared with him in perspective. Davet didn’t know about magic, the majority of his family was Muggle and finally… finally he knew why Mouse hadn’t visited a lot. “You know, for as long as he’s told me about you, Dav wished you would visit more. He missed you very much.”
Jude sat back, pushing his hair from his face. “He doesn’t. I just am not sure how to bring the topic up as yet.” He smiled wanly. “Now he’s got two persons close to him who are attending boarding school.’’ He thought of Davet’s handsome face and missed him even more. “So, Beauxbatons, then? How was it?”
Sophia was nervous, and feeling very unprepared for this train ride to Hogwarts. Her mum had packed sandwiches and some snacks for the day, and her big sister Honora had even snuck her a few homemade sweets. But she'd never been on a train ride by herself before. She wanted to sit by people she knew, but she didn't want to bother her big sister Amelia. She wandered the corridor for a bit, hoping to catch a glimpse of any of her primary school friends. Eventually, though, she gave up and sat in an empty compartment near the middle of the train.
She leaned against the window, hoping someone would sit by her. How long was she supposed to wait before eating her snacks?

In the surprising turn of events, it seemed like they would have an entire term to sort through questions and wouldn't need to ask ALL of them right this moment. Which is good, since while she knew she had a ton... she didn't know what to ask. Maybe that was really why she was allowing him to take the lead so far.
Ugh, sweet sweet Davet. He had always told her he wished they could spend more time together, but hearing he'd mentioned it to other people too made the young french girl extra soft - like the center of a baguette. "I miss him too. I always wanted my parent's to let me see him more. But they were convinced I would tell everyone about magic and break the statue of secrecy." Which in her opinion should expand to ALL branches of family but... the rules were sticky so it was better to just err on the side of caution. For now, anyways she supposed.
Actually... "I'm surprised he never asked either of us the name of where we were going." Although he was good on picking up on non-verbal cues. Part of what made him good at his chosen profession. "I've always wanted to just... tell him. But waiting until I was 17 and could prove it seemed the best. Do you think he'd be SUPER shocked?" She didn't want to send him into a panic of anything. Or be the cause of a mental break, though she was pretty sure he was stronger than that. "Beauxbatons was good. I'm going to miss our grand ballroom but... getting to live closer to Davet was worth the trade off. What's Hogwarts like?"

It wasn't long before a familiar voice joined her. Sophia sat up straight and smiled warmly at her friend. "Giselle! Hi!" she said eagerly. She wasn't sure she'd ever been so happy to see a Barrington. "Can you believe we're finally going to Hogwarts?!"
She dug into her bag and produced a few small bundles. She unwrapped one, sniffed, and offered it to Giselle. "Want a biscuit? They're chocolate," she offered. Her chef sister had made them.

Jude knew he could be talkative when he wanted to be and he supposed that he was being this way right now since he was still trying to process what he and Mouse had just discovered. But she was always welcome to interject her questions at any time. But yes… they definitely would have so much to talk about later on. For one thing, he already fully intended on working out a solution with Mouse so that they could make the big reveal together - if she wanted to.
The Hufflepuff chuckled. “You seemed to have done rather fine the entire summer! I mean, not even I suspected a thing.” VERY impressive, Mouse. Very impressive indeed. He stared out of the window for a second, watching the scenery and being lost in his own thoughts. Yes, Jude was still wrapping his head around things. Until Mouse spoke again.
“Knowing Dav, he probably figured we’d tell him when we’re ready. I feel guilty about not doing so yet.” Maybe it was because the two were dating, because Davet shared his entire life with Jude or maybe it was a combination of both. Jude bobbed his head a bit, analysing Mouse’s suggestion. “That’s a good idea. I turned seventeen in May last, and I did think of showing him some magic but…” Cue a brief look out the window. “Um… I was… am sort of worried that he might be annoyed that I’ve kept this from him. And my older sister is his best friend - she’s a witch too. That’s two persons who’ve had a secret from him. Well, you make three so…” There was a shrug as Jude tried to appear not too worried. “Yeah, he might be so shocked. Very shocked. I would be.” Lately, overthinking seemed to be his thing. “Being near to Dav is always going to outdo anything else,’’ he replied, grinning. “For the record, I’m glad you’re near too but mostly for his sake. Uh… dangerous at times, if I’m being honest? But it all works out because we’ve got a proper set of professors. Aside from that, Hogwarts is LOADS of fun! I have a way I can help you encounter a replica of the Ballroom at Beauxbatons. I’ll tell you all about it later though.” The Room of Requirement will certainly come in handy for that!

I feel guilty about not doing so yet.” Maybe it was because the two were dating, because Davet shared his entire life with Jude or maybe it was a combination of both. Jude bobbed his head a bit, analysing Mouse’s suggestion. “That’s a good idea. I turned seventeen in May last, and I did think of showing him some magic but…” Cue a brief look out the window. “Um… I was… am sort of worried that he might be annoyed that I’ve kept this from him. And my older sister is his best friend - she’s a witch too. That’s two persons who’ve had a secret from him. Well, you make three so…” There was a shrug as Jude tried to appear not too worried. “Yeah, he might be so shocked. Very shocked. I would be.” Lately, overthinking seemed to be his thing. “Being near to Dav is always going to outdo anything else,’’ he replied, grinning. “For the record, I’m glad you’re near too but mostly for his sake. Uh… dangerous at times, if I’m being honest? But it all works out because we’ve got a proper set of professors. Aside from that, Hogwarts is LOADS of fun! I have a way I can help you encounter a replica of the Ballroom at Beauxbatons. I’ll tell you all about it later though.” The Room of Requirement will certainly come in handy for that!
"See! If only my parents had trusted me!" She could have spent a whole lot more time with her cousin over the years. And... while she definitely would have spilled the beans eventually, maybe that would have been okay. Especially considering the more Jude talked, the more she was realizing Davet was surrounded by magical folk. One of them had to tell him eventually... right?
"He's sometimes too understanding. I'm surprised people don't think he's apathetic more, because he's so good at just... giving people space." It was something she found comforting about him, but she could also see how others might take it as a 'he didn't care' thing. "He's not really the 'annoyed' type, so while I'm sure he'll be shocked.... I don't think he'll be upset with you. Especially if you explain the whole legal reasons you couldn't just... spit it out." He was such a rule follower, lead with that. "Although.. contrary to what I just said, I do think there's a slim chance he'll be upset with me... mainly because I've kept this from him since I was 9." ... the more she thought about it, the less pleased she was with the idea of coming clean. But she would absolutely tell him eventually.
Mouse couldn't help the grin and the slight squeal that escaped as Jude mentioned being near Dav would always outdo. She'd really enjoyed watching them together over the summer, but hearing him talk about her cousin like that even with him traveling miles further with every second... it was sweet. And she was really pleased by how happy he'd seemed to be. "Beauxbatons we've had some skirmishes too. Though... nothing as bad as the Hogwarts take over. Fingers crossed that's not happening again!" But it probably wouldn't right? They had found the neo-alliance heads... she thought anyways. Eyes grew wide and she bounced excitedly in her seat. "REALLY?"

In the moment that he and Mouse were speaking about Davet, Jude became aware of how much he liked when his boyfriend was the topic of the conversation. Even though Davet wasn’t actually there, the Hufflepuff felt the warm fuzzies; not to mention that he was cheered up a lot now. “I know all too well how understanding he could be.” There was no need for him to divulge further but it was true: Davet had always been, and still was, very understanding about Jude’s feelings for Evan. “He’s just… the best. I really hope no one ever takes advantage of him.” Jude nodded, slightly reassured by Mouse’s words. “I think that’ll be best - the legal part.” Maybe things wouldn’t be so bad after all. “Don’t worry. Even if he gets upset with you, I doubt he’d be able to stay that way with you for very long. He’s very fond of you.” Jude really adored how close the two were!

HAD her parents been trying to protect her? Mouse supposed so, but really what was the worst that could have happened to a child who told the secret to a family member? It had seemed harsher to keep her separated from aunts and uncles and grandparents and cousins all for the sake of something she'd never asked for. It didn't matter though, she was nearly of age and they weren't keeping her separate anymore. That was more out of the fact they couldn't since the parents had decided different countries were best proceeding the divorce but... she wasn't complaining about the how. A relieved smile crossed her face, she didn't know the details of what he meant specifically, but what mattered was he knew. "Good. I'm glad." Someone taking advantage of him? "They'd instantly regret it if they did. He apparently has THREE wizards/witches looking after him. I certainly wouldn't want to get on the bad side of that." It was nice hearing from someone else that Dav was fond of her, it was assurance to Mouse that even though it hadn't been often she'd been just as important to him as he to her. "I'm glad to hear that. You spend the most time with him now, so I'll trust your judgement!"
Well... she was very selfishly glad she had NOT been going to school that year at all, but especially not at Hogwarts. With her blood status too... she would have been lumped in with the others. "Is the atmosphere... lighter now at Hogwarts?" Doing the math, this should be the final term of students who had been present for the unfoldings. Moving her train of thought to brighter things, she beamed at the promise of the ballroom and nodded her head quickly. "That sounds excellent! Thank you, Jude!" Honestly, there were not the right words for how relieved she was too for a familiar face now. "Which of the Hogwarts houses are you in, by the way?"
