Staff Table

On a raised dais situated at the farthest point of the Great Hall stands a long table where the members of the Hogwarts staff sit and enjoy their meal while casting a watchful eye out on the four House tables. Each staff member has an assigned, cushioned chair to sit on throughout the duration of the feast, though the more notable out of them all is the throne-like golden chair in the centre reserved for the headmaster.

Keep in mind that you should not be wandering up to the staff table if you are not a staff member before Headmaster Kazmi has delivered his speech. Doing so will result in the last-minute loss of points or worse before you even made it on the Hogwarts Express. If you wish to speak with someone who is seated up here, you will have to wait until after the speech has been said and there is food and drink on all of the tables. Make sure to keep your visit brief though -- the staff were also waiting on the food to appear and are just as hungry as you.

These terms seemed to fly by, didn't they? Or, at least, those in which the castle did not attempt to quite literally collapse around his ears certainly did. He'd take that as a win.

Kamran sat upon his throne large chair in the centre of the staff table, holding court looking out over his delightful menaces of varying degrees of waywardness students and generally keeping an eye on things. Always best not to let one's guard down, even - perhaps especially - this late in the term, but ultimately Kamran was at ease. It had been a good year. Still, he looked forward to the summer and seeing his own family, not least the newest addition and the other due to arrive very soon.

Taking a sip of water from his goblet, Kamran turned his gaze away from the well-behaved students in the Hall and looked upwards instead, taking in the gradually darkening sky up above. Decent conditions for an evening broom flight. Just saying.

Was Leanne disappointed in her first term leading the Gryffindors to come in last place? Maybe slightly, but to be honest last place in the house points battle was almost better than second or third second place was just a horrid reminder that they didn't get first. at least in last place, they didn't have a chance. She was going to place the fault on not really being present to push them in the last few months. If you found out your child was missing, you'd be preoccupied too. Nonetheless, she found herself feeling proud of more important things were forged this term - like the friendships.

Taking a sip of water from her goblet her gaze was mostly on the house of scarlet and gold, as she turned to look at Kazmi. "Big summer plans?" She said casually. She hated small talk though, but perhaps if he had something good planned, it would take her mind off the anxiety she was feeling.

Tapio feared he was running a little late for the Closing Feast. He had been putting a few plantings and student projects to rights just beforehand and then had had to stop to wash the dirt out from under his fingernails before hurrying up from the greenhouses to the castle.

All in all, it had been a pretty successful first year, he thought to himself as he strode along the grounds with his long legs. Classes hadn't gone too badly, though he was still getting the hang of things, and his Festival of Lights event back in February had been very well received. He felt he was starting to get to know people, and they him, and hopefully folks weren't as put off by his large and odd appearance as in the beginning. But as pleasant as he found Hogwarts and its nearby village, Hogsmeade, Tapio was looking forward to meeting up with his wife, who would be concluding one of her creature-hunting expeditions just as the school year ended. They were meeting up in Vienna for some much-needed quality time (a very romantic city, Vienna!) and would then collect their two children (who both thought of themselves as quite grown up) for a family holiday.

Upon entering the Hall through the staff entrance, Tapio saw that the Headmaster was already there and a colleague or two, but he did not seem to be the last to arrive, so that was all right, then. "Good evening, Kamran!" Good evening, Leanne," he called to them as he took his seat at the long staff table and looked out over the Hall at the arriving students.

Norman made his way to the Great Hall, half-expecting to be one of the last professors to arrive. An office on one of the top floors of the castle, plus a quick check of the Ravenclaw common room along the way, made the trip a bit longer. He was mildly surprised to find only the headmaster and a few other colleagues already seated, though no sign of emotion showed on his face as he approached the dais. “Good evening, Kamran, Leann, Tapio,” he greeted, nodding politely to each in turn as he took his seat at the far end.

His bluish-green eyes scanned the house tables, lingering on the Ravenclaw one for a moment. Was he disappointed in their second place standing in the house cup race? No, not really. Granted, he wanted a Ravenclaw victory, for the students, not himself, but it would be foolish to expect a win every year. They had more than a few wins under their belt already, and they’d given Slytherin a fair run for their money. As long as the effort was there, the points total didn’t matter.

Seeing no sign of trouble at any of the house tables, he allowed his thoughts to wander. All things considered, it had been a pretty quiet and - dare he say it - uneventful term. No major destruction and no intruders, at least not of the human variety. Compared to the pureblood supremacists, crazy “healer”, and shenanigans from the Board of Governors of previous terms, a sphinx was the least of his worries. Nonetheless, he was looking forward to a nice relaxing summer with his daughter, or at least as relaxing as her work schedule would allow.

Another term in the books… These terms kept on going by quicker and quicker with every year, he gained.

Hello Kamran,” he saluted boss man before greeting each of his peers. “Leanne, Tapio, Norman”. All of his colleagues got nods as he took his seat. “I’d say the dance was a success. No repeats of the Merlin’s Pride from years ago paired with the normal level of teenage drama plus the excitement of a young sphinx… All in a days work,” he sighed as he collapsed in his chair.

He had overheard Leanne’s questions about summer plans to Kamran. It was a good question. “Hopefully this summer we can all rest… unfortunately and fortunately… I will be on kid duty this summer with Bianca working throughout the time.” His wife would continue working and he would become the head of the Holden household- overseeing the children and household affairs. Summer was just as busy as the school year.

Especially with three little ones.

Kamran lowered his gaze again and looked across at Leanne, setting his goblet down as he did so. Aware of the situation with her daughter, he had the presence of mind to side-step the specifics of his plans (of which his own children played a large part) and said, "Catching up with everyone, mostly. My parents are hosting a get-together in August, and I'm told many of my overseas relatives will be there." Though he left out Laleh, Dariush, and Z.J., this was still true. Kamran, though not of an openly excitable nature, was very much looking forward to seeing his extended family.

"Good evening, Tapio," Kamran called back, with a raise of the hand in greeting. A good choice, ultimately, for taking on the Herbology post and completing the work of bringing the greenhouses back to their former glory (and beyond). "And to you, Norman," who was, of course, as on the ball with keeping an eye on the students as he ever was. "Evening, Simon. I'm happy to agree with you there." Merlin's Pride. Kamran had not even been in the country at the time, of course, but he knew much about what had happened during the course of the IMPS because his eldest had been a second year at Ilvermorny at the time.

And now she was a mother. Merlin. Kamran needed to sit down.

... He was already sitting down.

Right. Yes. Speech.

Getting to his feet, Kamran cleared his throat and called for the attention of the students, temporarily interrupting chatter of summer plans and fond farewells and whatever else happened to be the topic of conversation. When he had quiet, he spoke in a ringing voice for all to hear.

"Good evening, everyone. Only a few small notices before we officially wrap up this term. First, for those who might have missed the news, the out-of-bounds areas on the ground floor will once again be freely accessible next term. The guest we had staying there - a rather precious and highly sought after young sphinx - will be taking up residence in the Forbidden Forest instead, now that she is more able to look after herself." By the way, more reason to not go in there without permission... but that kind of notice was for the start of term. "I have no doubt that you'll be seeing more of her in the future."

Except the seventh years, of course, and those transferring out. Speaking of.

"To those of you leaving us for good, I wish you the best of luck moving forward. Do try to put what you have learnt to good use out there, be it in academia or careers or embarking on thrilling adventures, or building your lives. You're all more than capable of thriving, in whatever way best suits you, so long as you keep putting in the effort." Alright, pep talk and/or lecture over. "All the best to you. And to those of you who will be returning, I look forward to seeing you all again in two months' time. Enjoy your break, and be ready to learn again by then. To those who took the exams, OWL and NEWT results will be owled out to you in a couple of weeks."

Not to be terribly biased or anything - because Kamran would never (out loud)- but he figured he'd find some enjoyment in this next part. "And finally, congratulations are in order for Slytherin house, for winning the House Cup this year." It was getting to be a closer and closer race every year, wasn't it? Kamran led the applause here, and turned a small smile towards his old house, then out at the entire convergence of students. "Now, enjoy your feast. We'll meet again in September." Most of them, anyway.

Kamran sat down and took another sip from his goblet; as he'd finished the speech, the house and staff tables had filled themselves with the usual feast fare.
