On a raised dais situated at the farthest point of the Great Hall stands a long table where the members of the Hogwarts staff sit and enjoy their meal while casting a watchful eye out on the four House tables. Each staff member has an assigned, cushioned chair to sit on throughout the duration of the feast, though the more notable out of them all is the throne-like golden chair in the centre reserved for the headmaster.

Keep in mind that you should not be wandering up to the staff table if you are not a staff member before Headmaster Kazmi has delivered his speech. Doing so will result in the loss of points or worse before you've even made it an hour into the term. If you wish to speak with someone seated up here, you will have to wait until after the speech has been said and there is food and drink on all of the tables. Make sure to keep your visit brief though -- the staff were also waiting on the food to appear and are just as hungry as you.

Another year, another term, another year wi- who was he kidding? He was none the wiser. Hopefully his office wouldn’t be pranked again. That was one mystery he still had yet to figure out. It was still at the top of his mind.. He’d find the perpetrator or perpetrators…

He had a habit of being prompt to the feasts. His ice blue gaze glanced across the Hall as he made his way to the dias from the entrance hall, making sure to smile, nod, or wave at his students. Simon took his seat and placed his notebook in front of him, reclining into his chair as he stared off into the distance lost in his own thoughts.

It certainly hadn’t been a first year so he supposed it had to be someone between the ages of twelve and fifteen… Maybe fourteen. He doubted the fifth years had time for such shenanigans between OWLS. Maybe he’d focus on the former third and fourth years as suspects first.

Yes… that’d be where he’d begin his overdue investigation.

Here we go..

Arriving here was a curious matter in its own to Adom. Given its reputation, one would be a bundle of nerves all over again, wouldn't they? Not him, at least from his current intuition. It all seemed calm with him.

Flipping through the Wizard Weekly, Adom awaited the arrival of his colleagues and the students as he scanned for a stand-out heading. Meanwhile using one of his fingers to hover over his water goblet in a stirring motion. Naturally, this was a sign of one not wanting to be disturbed, yes? Not necessarily. Perhaps he just needed something to do with his hands before giving his attention elsewhere.

This evening Meda did something she didn't normally do, but tonight just felt like a time to do it. Instead of getting her usual teal robes that she adored so much, she decided to pick a pale yellow and black robe set. Maybe it was her house pride, the beginning of the school year, or she just felt like being a bit more sunny to start the term.

Walking into the great hall Meda smiled at everyone there so far and made her way to her seat. "Good evening, summer went a little too quickly this year, didn't it?" It always went fast, but she had been enjoying her gardens and reading so much.

Though it was all fun, she always enjoyed coming back to get a routine going once more.

Tapio Devries, the new Herbology Professor, straightened his coat and adjusted his robes before taking his place at the staff table for the first time. He'd worn his formal black boiled wool coat edged in silver embroidery in honor of the occasion, with his newly-acquired teaching robes draped over his shoulders. Tapio knew that, because of his great height, the largeness of his hands and feet, and the harsh, angular lines of his face, he sometimes appeared intimidating to many people. He had grown to compensate for this by an extreme gentleness of manner and low speaking volume (except on those very rare occasions when he deemed it an advantage to be intimidating, usually only in situations of life or death).

On entering the Great Hall, he paused for a moment, taking in the four long student tables, the banners, the floating candles, and above all, the famous magical ceiling which mimicked the sky outdoors. Having gone to school in Russia, all this was new to Tapio and he found it very impressive. He continued on to his place at the staff table, nodding and smiling gently to the fellow faculty members who were already there, until he finally found his seat, next to a man (Simon) who seemed lost in his thoughts. Reluctant to disturb him, Tapio sat carefully down and murmured a low-pitched "Good evening" to him, the kind of courteous greeting that didn't demand a reply.

It was not at all like Kamran to be late to a feast, excepting perhaps one or two instances. One and a half, in the name of compromise. Technically, he hadn't been late to this one either, aside from showing up later than he might usually have liked.

Still, sometimes these things couldn't be helped. Sometimes it was necessary to double and triple check certain... security measures. Because of certain... reasons.

At any rate, he had attempted to make his entrance in the Great Hall as surreptitious as possible by sidling in through the door at the back of the room, one which opened into one of the quieter and less visited chambers, but now Kamran sat in his ~~throne~~ usual seat, settled and surveying the students who filled the house tables, and the Sorting Ceremony.

"Right then," he said to his colleagues at large. "Time for what I am sure will, once again, be a very calm and peaceful year." Let no one ever accuse Kamran of not having a sense of humour. He allowed a little smile at Euka's comment, adding, "Seems as though summer flies by quicker every year," before glancing towards Adom, on his other side. He had a sneaking suspicion the students would quickly take to their new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. "Ready and raring to go?"

Meda smiled at the headmaster when he commented, "It truly does, I can remember the days when I sat at those very tables and wished away the term, some days feeling like days would never end and now." She shook her head and sighed at the thoughts she decided not to speak.

"It is a lovely evening for a feast though and I assume all is well for you this evening?" She rarely beat him to a feast so she had taken notice when she had gotten here first. Sitting in the seat right next to him it was hard not to notice these types of things.

Turning as his attention moved she gave a small wave to her puff table.

The start of another year at Hogwarts had arrived. As Norman made his way to the staff table, he wondered what this term would have in store. So far it was business as usual… lesson planning and the quick check of the Ravenclaw common room before the feast. We’ll see how long that lasts, he thought. If there was one thing he’d learned in his four terms here, it was there was no such thing as a normal term at Hogwarts!

Four terms… had it really been that long already? It seemed like he just got here! His blue-green eyes scanned the table, and he noticed that nearly all the people who were here when he started were gone. Wow, time flies!

“Good evening, all,” he greeted, taking his seat at the far end of the table. He cast a quick cursory glance toward the Ravenclaw table, meant as a half-greeting half-warning to the students. So far, so good. No sign of shenanigans. Not that he had to worry much about that. This group was pretty well-behaved.

Norman turned his attention back to his colleagues and noticed Simon writing something. HIs curiosity was mildly piqued, but he refrained from commenting so as not to disturb him. He turned to the new herbology professor (Tapio) instead. “What do you think of Hogwarts so far?” he asked. He sincerely hoped the man’s first start of term feast would be better than his own!

Perhaps it was the eerily chillness of the previous term, but Leanne found herself on the returning side of things. Although she was a bit disappointed to learn of Cyril's retirement. She would certainly miss his kind and grandfather-like disposition. Instead of her blue robes, Leanne opted for a red dress complete with a black pea coat, figuring it prudent to pay tribute to her new position.

She did find her gaze drifting over to the Gryffindor Table to ensure they weren't being too rambunctious. One feeling that hadn't escaped her was the fact that she was teaching the kids of people who attended Hogwarts with own kid. And she was also now colleagues with yet another who was her daughter's age. Merlin, she was old enough to be her colleague's mother?? Weird.

Leanne snorted when she heard Kamran's remark about a peaceful year. "Please don't joke when we get to eating. I fear i might spew potatoes at some poor unsuspecting student."

She then turned to her new neighbor. "So Adom, welcome. You attended Hogwarts as a student, yes? How's it feel to be back?"

"Evening, Meda," Adom greeted back kindly. "Too quickly.." It reminded him on the fact that his own son Blue and Niece Donella would be enjoying their final year here before becoming fully-fledged adults. Taking a sip from his goblet to quench a bit of his thirst.

Lowering the paper, his eyes traveled to the other side of the table where Simon, Tapio, and Norman were returning a nod of acknowledgement of a greeting. He was in a relaxed mood that raising his voice wouldn't be happening now for small talk. But at least there was plenty of company by him, a brief smile for the Kamran's question, "Ah, yes.. Quite so, I certainly hope the students feel the same," He had some stuff in mind for them this year.

"Thank you Leanne," Nodding to confirm that he had attended here beforehand, "It's a curious feeling, almost like I never left, but different set of luggage to carry," In more ways than one. "How's it feel knowing you'll be in charge of the lions?"

Simon turned his gaze from the student body to Andromeda when she commented on the summer. He nodded. “Indeed. It vanished within the blink of an eye. Did you enjoy your summer?” he asked before nodding to his new peer. The one that replaced June. JUUUUNE ;_; He glanced up from his writing and hurriedly closed it as if he were thirteen again and his new peer was threatening to read all about his student crushes. He closed it quickly but cooly… oh so cooly. “Evening! So first feast at Hogwarts, yeah? What do you think, Tapio?” he asked his new Herbology Professor peer.

The boss had appeared. “Kamran, good summer?” he asked before watching his peers interact before turning back to his notebook. He didn’t catch Norman glancing at him at first but when he looked up again, he did notice both Norman and Adom. “Norman. Adom,” he said with a curt nod. Hw couldn’t ask much else as he overheard Leanne’s response to their boss. “Hopefully less pranksters than last year and more offices left in tact.”

Yes. He was still mildly upset about the state of his office.

Justice would be served!!

Javier had been sitting quietly at the table, watching as the rest of the staff trickled in. He was tired, having waited until the last minute to set up his potions classroom, so he wasn't saying much. Not that he was ever the chattiest person in the room.

"Welcome...I'm Javier Hernandez, Potions," he said with a small smile to the two new arrivals. Adom and Tapio, was it? He tried to remember if he'd been in school with them, but he was so dreadful with names and faces. He could have worked next to them for years at the Ministry and not remembered.

Well, he'd introduced himself. Could they eat now so he could go to bed?

Tapio caught the hastily closed notebook with surprise and a bit of amusement. Well, some liked their privacy, after all, he mused. "Oh, it's quite splendid. I'd heard of the famous ceiling in the Great Hall but never before seen it until tonight. It's nice having a bit of outdoors when you're inside, isn't it?"

"Thank you!" replied Tapio a little too heartily, for his deep voice momentarily rose in volume a bit too much, or so he thought, so he lowered it again. "I didn't go to Hogwarts myself--Koldovstoretz, because I was born in Europe--so all this is new to me." And he here indicated the breadth of the Great Hall with a large sweep of one large arm.

"Oh yes, everything's fine," Kamran said in reply to Meda, drumming his fingers absentmindedly on the surface of the table. "Some last minute correspondence to deal with, and ensuring some locked doors are definitely locked." He gave a wry smile, which he then turned to Adom, on his other side. "I daresay they are. More than ready, I'd say."

That was quite the visual from Leanne, and Kamran allowed himself the slightest chuckle. "I'll do my best." Until that moment, he would continue to manifest a positive year. And then to the others. "Evening Norman, Javier, and you as well, Tapio. Welcome to your first Hogwarts feast." Kamran eyed the Sorting Hat, then checked his watch. Making decent time this year. He glanced up again, and down towards his left hand side. "Yes, a very good summer. A very good break. Yourself?"

With the Sorting wrapping up, Kamran had a speech to give before setting these hungry students loose on the food. He got to his feet, clearing his throat. "Your attention please," he called to those who hadn't yet deduced that the speech was about to start, and waited until he had exactly that.

"Welcome, and welcome back, to another year at Hogwarts. To those who don't yet know, my name is Kamran Kazmi. You may call me Headmaster Kazmi, or Professor Kazmi." He then half-turned and gestured to each new member of staff, continuing introductions. "A few changes this term. Professor Melody Crabtree will be our new Care of Magical Creatures professor, Professor Adom Madigan is taking on the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts, Professor Tapio Devries will be teaching Herbology, and Professor Sean Davies-Finch is taking on Muggle Studies." A brief pause for an applause of welcome for each new face. "Our new Slytherin Head of House is Professor Javier Hernandez, and Professor Leanne Mancini will be the Head of House for Gryffindor. New Ravenclaws, your Head of House is Professor Norman Carton, and Hufflepuffs, Professor Andromeda Euka."

Most of the students knew the latter two already, but Kamran still pointed out the Heads of Houses for the benefit of the new students who might not know where on earth to go with their immediate concerns.

"Now then. The Forbidden Forest on the edge of the grounds continues to be, as the name suggests, forbidden. To all students. Unless, of course, you have permission from a member of staff." Kamran paused, considering his next words carefully, but delivering them just as matter-of-factly as the rest. "A small section of the ground floor is also off-limits this term. The door to the out-of-bounds area will be clearly marked - do not try to break through it. Explanations will come in due course.

"One final announcement. In the spring, we will be holding a school dance. A party, something to look forward to after some challenging years. You are all invited to assist in the planning and decorating stages, and, of course, to attend. Keep an eye out for planning committee meetings. Any concerns, please address them to your Heads of Houses, or myself." Students with financial challenges who might worry about what to wear, for one thing, or those who struggled with a change in routine. They knew where to go.

And that was... yes, that was everything. Hopefully these kids had stayed with him long enough to hear that final, and (arguably) most exciting point. "Thank you for your attention. Classes start bright and early tomorrow morning, so make sure to get a good night's sleep. For now, let the feast begin."

And so it did. As Kamran settled back into his chair, the food appeared across all of the house and staff tables, ready to be devoured.
