 The walls in the first-floor corridor are covered in tapestries and, hung over them, are portraits of numerous witches and wizards. Whether you are trying to get to class or are just browsing around, the portraits here will try to start up a conversation with you. If you manage to get on their good side, they'll be willing to reveal secret passageways, share the latest school gossip, and more.
If you have time to spare, definitely go on a brief tangent from whatever it is you are doing. Google Stump is your man to go to if you're looking for answers about the mysteries of the castle; Beaumont Marjoribanks can tell you everything there is to know about gillyweed; and Elizabeth Burke ... well, it would be best to just avoid her for reasons that will be obvious should you strike up a discussion with her about magical blood status. There are other portraits here as well, each with their own unique personalities, and figures from other portraits happen to invade their frames from time to time.
OOC: Please do not role-play for the Portraits.

Valentina had decided to head outside for a bit in the afternoon, she simply wanted to just enjoy the warm weather, but she decided to make a small stop in the first floor corridor instead.
She curiously studied the various portraits as she walked - not daring to stop because she didn't really want to end up having a conversation with any of them. It was funny how this was her sixth year at this school and yet, she'd never really taken the time to see them before.

Karleigh had already been outside and was actually on her way inside after a visit to the winged horses in the barn. It had been a productive afternoon and now she was torn between grabbing a snack from the kitchens or going up to her dorm room to relax. And since she quickly realized she had a stash of snacks in her dorm room, she decided to forgo the kitchens and head up to Gryffindor tower.
As she strolled through the first floor corridor on her way to the stairs, she slowed her gait as she noticed one of her dorm mates up ahead. "Hi, Valentina," she greeted her with a smile, pausing to assess their surroundings. "Are you talking to the portraits?" This corridor had so many of them and Karleigh always found them to be a wealth of information as well as very entertaining.

Karleigh pulled off a piece of hay that had gotten stuck in the fluffy fibers of her sweater. "Oh, nothing much," she replied as she dropped the hay to the ground. Good thing she was in some of her casual clothes, being outside in the barn - warm sweater, jeans, and ankle boots. "I was just outside visiting with the winged horses and just came in to have a snack." And she just happened to come through here on her way back to the dorms.
