 In the corridor branching off the Entrance Hall, you notice two stone gargoyles guarding a door. You will soon learn that these statutes love to gossip. For those that have been attending Hogwarts for a while, it is common knowledge that this room is for the staff members of the school. The grand mahogany door that separates the corridor and the room is typically locked, so it is best that you not to even attempt entering unless you want detention.
Beyond the door is a long, large circular table, big enough to fit each person employed at Hogwarts, stands front and centre. This is where all the professors and support staff sit and discuss important school matters, ranging from discussions on the curriculum to problem students. A large wardrobe, once home to a boggart, is placed next to a small table on one side of the room and is full of various coats and robes long forgotten by their previous owners. The table holds two boxes: one containing spare parchment and quills and the other confiscated student items.
The opposite end of the staff room is arguably the more popular spot in the room. Placed strategically by a large fireplace, comfy leather sofas and chairs provide an excellent place for the adults to socialise with each other or take a much-needed nap.

Seven years as a student in this school, and then two in the ranks of the staff, and only this year did it really occur to Kamran how big Hogwarts really was. Then again, only now did he spend half his time attempting to walk each and every square foot of the place every day, looking for and tending to extreme wear and tear. It had the almost comical effect of patching up one section of a boat only for the leak to spring elsewhere, except that it wasn't a boat, and he wasn't finding it too funny. One thing that did put him greatly at ease was the fact that the most basic damage didn't seem to reoccur, but the place was so huge there seemed to be no end to what could start crumbling next, even when they tried to stay a step ahead.
Whack-a-niffler. That's what this was. A castle-wide game of whack-a-niffler, only less cute. And... less violent. Usually.
Having just fixed up a frankly alarming crack in the corridor ceiling, Kamran headed to the staff room and let himself in, pausing only for a brief catch-up with the gargoyles. He was going sit in that armchair right there and relax for at least five minutes. At least. Then he'd see about arranging this visit from the architect, so that one day soon he might get to relax for ten minutes.

Whack-a-niffler was an apt analogy to describe this situation, or at least Rosalie would have thought so. As soon as they'd fixed one cracking wall, another one popped up a few days later. Nothing had quite gotten to the point of extreme danger, considering they were relatively easy fixes, all things considered. But it was still inconvenient and concerning, like the common room entrances behaving strangely.
She pondered all this as she entered the staff room, only offering a quick hello to the gargoyles as she passed them. No time for gossip today, unfortunately for them. She just needed some time away from her desk and away from the homework assignments she needed to grade.
And it appeared she wasn't alone. Kamran was here as well. Rosalie smiled. "It seems a good sign that those two are as lively as ever." At least the magic on the gargoyles was still in working order.

What was it about settling into an armchair that elicited the kind of sigh that made Kamran sound just like his father? Not that he didn't admire and respect the man, don't get him wrong, but his father was a man of a certain age, and Kamran was still very much in his prime.
Unlike certain castles he could name.
Before he could think too much on the relentless march of time, Kamran was spared by Rosalie entering the room. "It does, though I'm starting to wonder about the gargoyles outside my own office," he replied, rubbing his jaw and recalling the moment a few days ago when they had refused to accept his password. Eventually it worked, only for the spiral staircase to grind to a halt moments later. Again, it soon returned to normal on its own, and Kamran was not averse to getting the exercise, but it was yet another reminder (one he did not exactly need) of an issue that still needed addressing.
"Encouraging that there are no issues in producing fresh spells. That happened a few years back, I hear." And Kamran would be lying if he said he didn't have a nervous few weeks wondering if a similar thing might be able to occur. "Fingers crossed, we'll have some answers soon."

He needed more coffee for the walls and if he had heard the whack-a-niffler comparison, he would have chuckled and readily agreed. The situation that they had found themselves in during this academic year was challenging. It was as if a solution to the crack led to another and another and another. It was like someone had knocked over all of the dominos in this match. Frustrating and exhausting was it.
Y’know what was also frustrating? Aging. Simon had found TWO strands of silver in his dark luscious locks. Was this how it started? Would his hair be silver by the end of the school year? …… Rather dramatic, Holden.
He couldn’t have another cup of coffee or else he’d be bouncing around the castle.
Simon quickly nodded his head towards the gargoyles, briefly greeting them but then was stopped by them. “Sorry. No…I didn’t bring you tea..” More heckling from the gargoyles which led to Holden becoming more frustrated until he took a deep breath and switched his strategy.. He joked back with them briefly before heading into the Staff Room. In his hands, he balanced a freshly brewed pot of Builder’s tea and cups. He always bought an extra just in case he ran into a peer. Upon entry, he immediately noticed Kamran and Rosalie were here. He did catch note of what his boss had said.
“Answers would be good. I’ll keep my toes crossed too?” He spoke lightly, cracking a wry smile at his peers. “Tea?” he asked as if also asking if he could join them without asking. He placed the metal tray on the long table where they would use to discuss matters of the school in a more formal setting before pouring some tea into a cup. “It’s Builder’s Brew. Strong tea good fuel if we need more energy.”

Ah, so perhaps gargoyles weren't immune to the strange magic-less problem, if the ones outside of Kamran's office had been affected. Not that Rosalie truly thought they were, but perhaps it might have been a clue if all the gargoyles acted as the ones outside of the staff room were right now. She slipped into a seat, thoughtful for a second.
The incident several years ago though? "Oh yes, I remember reading about that in the paper. Thank Merlin we're not in the middle of that, at least." A strange and terrifying magical phenomenon, that vortex had seemed. Luckily the situation didn't seem as dire as that.
Answers, indeed, would be good, as Simon entered and voiced her agreement. And brought tea. "I would love a cup, thank you. Always helpful for a brainstorming session." Not that she assumed they'd figure out all the answers and solutions here, but it certainly helped to discuss what was going on, as they had throughout the term.
