For those who belong in Hufflepuff House, in the middle of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Gold banners containing an embroidered black badger float above the polished table in honour of the loyal Helga Hufflepuff. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.
Though your stomach might be growing as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Trent to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.
Margaret had a lot on her mind. A lot, a lot. She slipped into her seat at the Hufflepuff table, not paying much mind to who was on either side of her, and barely even noticed the sorting. She clapped when the other Hufflepuffs clapped, but otherwise just sort of zoned out.
She was hungry. She was confused. That wasn't new. But...yeah, she was confused. She set her elbow on the table and leaned her chin in her hand, eyes closed. She just had to get through the sorting and the speech and the feast and then...then...

Jordyn was still a bit stunned about the Sorting Hat’s very surprising decision. Never in a million years had she expected this, but here she was nonetheless. Reaching the Hufflepuff table, she shrugged and said to herself, ”Might as well make the best of it.”

The brand new fourth year wasn’t sure where to sit. Then she saw a girl who seemed to be about her age and stood next to her. The girl didn’t exactly seem like she was in the mood for conversation, but Jordyn decided to take a chance.
“Hi, I don’t mean to bother you. I’m Jordyn. Do you mind if I sit here?” And so began her life as an official Hufflepuff.

Margaret opened her eyes at the appearance...well, sound, of an unfamiliar voice. Talking to her? She looked around and saw a girl, a new girl, standing there. Well. This was certainly an exciting turn of events.
"Hi, Jordyn, I'm Margaret," she said with a smile as she scooted over slightly to make sure there was plenty of room. "Have a seat! Did you transfer in? You don't look like a first year."

Jordyn released the breath she didn’t realize she had been holding, relieved that she was not unwelcome. Smiling at her new housemate, she said, “Thanks. It’s nice to meet you Margaret.” Jordyn sat down in the space that was cleared for her and faced her first potential Hogwarts friend.
“No, I am most definitely not a first year”, she said with a laugh. “I am a transfer though. This will be my fourth year, well my first at Hogwarts, but……..” Jordyn stopped. Surely her housemate understood what she was trying to say. “What about you? What year is this for you? Have you been at Hogwarts all along?” She had a million other questions, but she figured it best to take a breath. She didn’t want to annoy Margaret with too many questions all at once.

Margaret smiled. A fourth year! That meant a new dormmate. "I'm a fourth year, too," she said brightly. "All Hogwarts. I can show you around!" And just like that, a very confusing day was turning into a day where she got a new friend. She opened her mouth to say more, but then the headmaster was making his speech so she paused and turned to listen.
More new projects? She hoped it wasn't just hanging fresh candles. She sighed at the ever-present reminder that the forbidden forest was forbidden. Hopefully her new friend Jordyn wouldn't be the rule-breaking type that thought going in there was a fun adventure. There'd been enough fun adventures.
"Finally! Food!" Margaret began scooping food onto her plate as soon as it appeared, sparing a big grin for Jordyn. "What's your favourite food?"

When Jordyn heard that Margaret was also a fourth year, she couldn’t believe her luck. “That’s awesome! I would love for you to show me around.” She had a new friend, a friend in her year, someone with experience in the ways of Hogwarts. “Thank you. I really would appreciate that.” She could use all the help she could get.
Just then, the Headmaster began to give his speech. Jordyn listened as he talked, all the while wondering when they would be able to eat. She was starving. She didn’t have to wait much longer because as soon as the speech was over, the most amazing food appeared on the table. Following Margaret’s lead, Jordyn began to fill her plate.
In between mouthfuls, she thought about Margaret’s question. “I have a few favorites and it’s really hard to pick just one thing. I guess if I had to pick my number one favorite, it would be fish tacos. What about you? What’s your favorite?”
