Default Weasley Swamp

The legendary portable swamp created by Fred and George Weasley was once large enough to consume the entire fifth-floor corridor. Needless to say, this greatly irritated the notorious Dolores Umbridge when there were no instructions on how to remove it and the then teachers didn't seem to mind that it was there. Today a small section of the swamp remains, roped off in tribute of the redheaded twins' historic act of protest.

When you are getting close to this reserved section of the corridor, you will know without question. The remaining swamp still smells like an authentic swamp, look like an authentic swamp, bubbles like an authentic swamp, and will indeed suck you in if you cross over the rope and step in it. Avoid the Weasley swamp with care is the best advice you should heed while on the fifth floor, especially if you're running late to class. While it must have been an impressive and humorous sight back in the mid-90's, just praise Merlin that you don't have to make your way across today.

Mainly, cocky people because he was the best (obviously) and other people who were also mischievous 24/7 because that was his job. And no one stole Kayne's thunder. Absolutely, no one.

"A thousand thanks, your highness." He stated with yet another, even more over dramatic bow.

Kayne's eyes scanned the area until it had reached the spot that Ash had pointed out to him. Low and behold, there was a slight ripple that could be vaguely seen. And it was in this moment, that Kayne was truly grateful for a few things.

First, was the fact that he didn't have nails painted this day. Cause he wouldn't have wanted to get murky swamp water on his nails. He hardly wanted to get it on his basically flawless skin, let alone something that he held more close to him than that. Which, is saying a lot, because Kayne cared a lot about his skin. There hasn't been a day in his life that he had experienced acne problems or blackheads or other blemishes like that. Not even like that awkward stubble that some guys get around this age.

Secondly, the area where his boot went under the water wasn't too far off from the edge. This was good in case he had to make a mad dash back out of the water because he wasn't exactly too sure on whether or not he was allowed to go in or not. I mean, surely a professor would still be at least somewhat understanding, right? It's not like he wanted to go in. It's because he couldn't just leave his shoe in there even though he had several other pairs.

Lastly, and most importantly, Kayne was thankful that it wasn't in an area of complete and total darkness. That would have been the only thing that would have kept him out of this water from retrieving his other boot. Due to an incident when he was younger where he accidentally got locked in his friends basement during a game of hide and seek when the power was out, Kayne was now afraid of...you guessed it...the dark.

"Alright, it's show time." The young troublemaker said in his cheesiest action movie narrator voice. "Can this totally awesome Slytherin best the Bayou Princess, or will his shoe be lost in her territory forever?" Dramatic pause for some flair. "Who knows." Before stepping into the swamp, Kayne started to make guitar noises to this really old song called Bad to the Bone. Then, with his best slow-mo walk, he made his way in. Even on the edge of the swamp though, the water still went up to his thighs. Hopefully, it wouldn't go too much deeper.
Ash knew that this whole 'Queen Ash' thing was a joke. It was. But still, she hadn't been the queen in a long time. Well, she was still rich like one, but that wasn't what she meant. What she meant is that queens got respect. And Ash didn't. Not here. She was the one resignedly kneeling at the foot of evil, not the other way around. She was the one being shoved to the ground, stepped on, tortured. She was the one being ignored and kicked out of the way. She was the small figure huddled on the floor.

She wasn't the one who got to sit on a throne, controlling the world and having people bow and bring her fancy food. She hadn't been like that since she was ten. So this was refreshing, a little reminder. A little spark of joy. "You are very welcome." She nodded as majestically as she could for a little girl sitting slouched against a wall right next to a swamp.

But it was funny, wasn't it? Ash was the queen of a swamp. A very cool swamp, but a swamp nonetheless. Fitting. Swamps were generally disliked and avoided. Swamps were dangerous sometimes. And they gave off very tragic vibes. Perfect for Ash.

Ash flickered back into reality, delighted that Kayne was narrating his adventures in the Weasley Swamp AND providing a soundtrack. She was also impressed that he wasn't somehow blaming her for him losing his shoe... people tended to do that.

She smiled. "I hope you know how to do laundry... laundry day was yesterday." Ash always knew when laundry day was. Because she always hid her clothes on laundry day, and washed them on her own time. This was for a few reasons: she was not lazy, she wanted to have her laundry done right, and she was very protective of her things. And also she wanted to see if there were washing machines at Hogwarts. There were not. Ash was aware, however, that most kids at Hogwarts did not do their own laundry. She hoped Kanye at least knew how. Because he was going to need it.

Kayne thought the swamp smelled bad while just standing down the corridor, it was a whole different story when he actually stepped into the swamp itself. It reeked. There wasn't even a logical explanation of how bad the stench was. Not to mention, the water looked dirty and so murky. Please, please, please don't stain my clothes, my shoes, or my hair. That was the only thought running through Kayne's mind right now.

Taking a few more steps in, the hazel eyed kid said "I do thankfully, but, I'm more worried about my hair." Both his hands then motioned to the mullet atop his head, half of it currently dyed a shock white color. At least his clothes weren't white, so the stains would be harder to see. Half of his hair...not so much. It took a lot of time for him to get that nice, bright white color that he wanted, so redoing it again would be just a major pain. Albeit, doing hair was one of the things he liked. However, it still sucked.

After some more steps, the Weasley Swamp now reached to his hips. The deeper it went, the more he could feel his steps becoming slower and sluggish. As it turns out, people were right. It's extremely hard walking through a swamp, and this kind of gave Kayne some sympathy towards the students who had actually needed to trudge through this when it was taking up the entirety of the corridor.

Just a few more steps

Each step taking longer than the last, Kayne finally made it to the vicinity where his lone boot went in. Briefly turning back to look at Ash, he told her with the same cheesy narrator voice "And now, it's time for your main event!" Pausing, he took a deep breath in which pierced through the silence in the air. Then plop, underwater he went. A few seconds went by...

And then a few more...

Until finally, a hand with a boot reached up through the surface, and Kayne had emerged. Completely drenched, and most definitely smelly. "How's my hair?" He asked, breathing in and out. Wiping some sort of slimy muck type thing away from his eyes.

Queen Ash laughed again. "Well then, I hope you know how to wash your hair as well." Wait... his hair? Why would... he wasn't going to... ewww. There were definitely better ways to get his shoes back than what he was currently doing. You know, a lot of people thought Ash was an idiot, but she knew a lot of things. Common sense things, like muggles are okay, and don't put your head in a swamp. Maybe Kayne could do to learn some common sense things. Since he was putting his head in a swamp. At least he had courage. That was something.

And now he was above the surface again. For a second she thought he'd drowned or something. She wrinkled her nose at him. "Uhhh, you passed the universe's test..." But at what cost? "I think your hair is fine. Nothing a million trillion showers can't fix. I suggest using shampoo that smells really good." Because he was absolutely going to need it. No doubt about that.

She grinned. Kayne was dedicated and had a lot of courage. And few people had those traits or even appreciated them in others anymore. That made him infinitely less annoying. Queen Ash would even go as far to say that he was NOT annoying.

"I guess this'll make a fun story later." Ash loved telling stories. Only, other people didn't seem to like stories about how people kept trying to kill her. Here was a story she could tell that would make other people laugh instead of feel awful.

Kayne chuckled and sighed with relief as he slowly trudged back out of the Weasley Swamp and behind the rope again. At long last he was reunited with his beloved boot. Looking down at it he said "I promise I'll never do that again to you Mrs. Boot."

Eyes now turning back to Ash, he too found a nearby wall to sit back against. "Eugh, this is never gonna come out now. And yes, thankfully I do know how to wash my hair as well. It's just the having to possibly dye it all over again that's a pain." A look of disgust crossed his face. Not at her, but to reflect on him realizing how that plan was just a tad bit dumb. Kayne always has a plan for scenarios like this, he would never just go into something without one. Sometimes, these plans weren't necessarily smart. However, it was a plan nonetheless. Also, at the end of the day, it's not like he got injured or anything.

"Ya know, maybe that wasn't my best idea on how to pass the test then." Another laugh came echoing out from his mouth before a smirk appeared. Then Kayne added "So what's next Bayou Queen? Heard any juicy gossip recently?" Surely, a girl like Ash has to know some secrets that have been hiding within this castle. Much like himself, she seemed like the type who would keep up with that sort of stuff. Hopefully, it could lead them on some kind of adventure of sorts.

"You can't fix it with magic?" Because magic was a crutch, but you needed a crutch when you broke a leg. That was the analogy that Ash thought of. And having your hair dye messed up counted as an emergency. Ash had pink streaks in her hair. And she didn't want them to be all stained with swamp water. Because that was gross. So using magic to fix your hair was very acceptable. Using magic to not stick your head in a swamp was also acceptable...

"It might not have been a very good idea, but you have your shoes and you're alive, so it worked." Ash was a big fan of the 'at least my plan worked' mentality. Nobody was ever impressed when she said "sure I got very hurt, but we're both alive so I see no problem here." Ash had priorities. If she was alive and Rosier was dead, then life was alright in her opinion.

"Gossip?" Ash stretched out the word, like she was recalling things to mind. She wasn't. She had a perfect memory. Instead, she was thinking about what to say. "Um... there's a closet that people cry in on the seventh floor. Source: I invented it. And I know who did and did not kiss on Christmas, because I was on the mistletoe rescue squad. You know how people have to kiss under mistletoe? Well if they don't want to, we save them by burning it. An important service to the community, no doubt." Queen Ash did not abide by the rules of inanimate plants, and her subjects didn't need to either. "We're not allowed to be in the kitchen anymore. Oh, and have you been to the Cardboard Paris room? It's new." Well, the room had always been there. The cardboard hadn't though. And that was all the gossip she chose to share. But she did know more. Of course she did... she was a queen. She was immortal. She walked around observing. Of course she would know. She liked to hear all of the gossip so that she'd know it wasn't about her. A good deal of it was about her. Sigh.

"Well, I can. I'm just not really used to doing it that way." Kayne responded to her question. He continued by saying "I'm a Half-blood, so my dad doesn't really like it when I use magic, especially for mundane tasks such as this, back home. He says that it would be taking the easy way out, when my mom's side of the family wouldn't be able to do that." That was one of the biggest rules back home. Which is why, Kayne is always trying to practice and learn new spells while he's here at school. Also, he didn't say it out loud, but he just didn't think about doing it that way. And to him that could possibly show Ash that he wasn't smart which isn't entirely true. He just doesn't use his brain sometimes. Hence why Kayne isn't in Ravenclaw.

Listening to more of what Ash had to say, Kayne nodded his head in total agreement. That was exactly his mentality and way of thinking. "Precisely. That is basically what I was thinking to myself. I personally think it's fine if plans don't work out how they should, or if it's not the brightest idea, as long as no one gets put into danger then it's fine." He never really understood why people always had to be so concise with plans, and why they would make a big deal if it didn't go exactly the way they wanted it to. With that being said though, the flip side of that coin is, he also didn't really understand people who would constantly just try to wing it. A little improvisation can go a long way, but too much can get you lost on the road to your destination.

Now onto the gossip, Kayne sat and listened with amusement as she rattled off quite a few interesting pieces of information. There was one in particular which he didn't recall hearing for some odd reason though. "Why are we no longer allowed in the kitchens? Also, what exactly is the Cardboard Paris Room?" He asked. "Is that like...a room with a cardboard cut out of the Eiffel Tower ?" Kayne couldn't help but joke about that last part. Cardboard Paris Room even the name of it sounded kinda funny to him. If he actually guessed right, there was no doubt in his mind that he would just burst out in a cacophony of laughter. That would be a site that Kayne would most certainly have to see.

"Suit yourself." Ash shrugged. She approved of the whole "don't use magic if you don't have to" thing. On the other hand, magic was a gift, so you might as well use it if it was convenient, and Ash saw it as extra nice to use it to help people who didn't have magic. She just didn't want to be reliant on one system of doing things. If the muggle way was better, she'd use that way. If the wizarding way was better, she'd use that way. She had been given the option to use both ways, so she was going to use both ways. Perhaps they saw the world differently, since Ash had grown up doing whatever she wanted and running wild, and the one thing her father had bothered to teach her was get what you want in the most effective and efficient way possible. Which was a lesson that could be viewed in many different lights.

Ash grimaced when Kayne talked about danger and plans and stuff. See, Ash didn't always look for the plan where nobody got hurt. She looked for the plan that worked and didn't involve dying. There was quite a bit of difference. But Ash didn't say so, because... if Kayne hadn't already heard that she was reckless and dangerous to be around, she certainly wasn't going to tell him.

"Not sure why we aren't allowed in the kitchen. Poppy decided so. I am... not appreciative." In case it had gone unnoticed, Ash liked freedom, and being told she was not allowed to be somewhere made her want to go there even more. "It's not just a rule. I physically can't get in." It sucked. The Cardboard Paris Room was much more fun. "Somebody put a cardboard model of -I think- the Paris skyline in an empty classroom. I think some people pay for French lessons there." She shrugged. She already spoke French. But it was a cool place to hang out. UNLIKE THE KITCHEN, which was off-limits. Not only was she upset about being not allowed in there, she was SUPER upset about Quinn not being allowed in there. He made cupcakes for her! What would she do without cupcakes!!! It was an outrage. Especially since she didn't want any bread. She wanted cupcakes. She didn't even trust food that she wasn't allowed to see made, not since the incident with the sleeping potion. Gotta be extra careful. All Healer Poppy had to do was open up the kitchen and show her how to make the bread. But Healer Poppy didn't do that.

If Ash was REALLY a queen, how come 'Healer' Poppy got to push her around? Do this, do that. Go to the mandatory group therapy session. Stay out of the kitchen. Eat some bread. Blah blah blah blah blah.

A little sparkle came across Kayne's eye the more he listened to Ash talk. He could tell that she was definitely a troublemaker, much like himself. Now fixing his hair, Kayne replied "So, wait. Do you happen to know if the Kitchen is like physically barred off, or magically barred off? Also, if you don't mind me asking, why do you wanna go to the Kitchen that much?" Hopefully, the boy had earned her trust enough to let him know the reasoning behind this. If it involved a little bit of tom foolery, Kayne might even be game to try and help find a way in there. Emphasis on maybe.

Pulling a nail fail kit out from his bag, Kayne proceeded to file his nails a bit, and buff them out too. The muck was leaving them looking disgusting, which was something that he couldn't just let idly sit by. He was too prideful about his looks to be seen with dirt anywhere on his body, which was why he'd definitely need to change and shower before enacting any form of plan with Ash.

"Regardless of what your answer to the kitchen matter is, the Cardboard Paris Room sounds nice. Mind taking me there sometime your majesty?" Kayne asked. "Maybe you can upgrade your castle. And also, every Queen needs a soldier or a spy." His grin moving from ear to ear as if he had a plan in mind. "I would gladly be either or both, if you so choose that is." A partner in crime would be extremely nice to have here at the castle. Especially considering the fact that Kayne didn't have many friends here. Most of his friends were back home in Essex, because they didn't have magic running through their blood. The friends that he did have here were busy most of the time. Or they just weren't into causing trouble.

"Magically barred off. If it was physically impossible to get in, I would have gotten in already." Ash just didn't know the magic to let her get in- she was perfectly capable of breaking things. Ash was willing to believe that it was powerful magic keeping her away. "That means I gotta do some research and pursue some lines of subtle inquiry." Her voice carefully pronounced the fancy words at the end of the sentence, almost in a mimic of her boyfriend's. He always said the words 'subtle inquiry' very fancily, and now she knew why. It made her feel SO much cooler than saying 'I'm gonna go ask people stuff'. Her eyes sparkled. Ash hardly ever read books when she didn't need to, but she was a great researcher. She could disappear in the library for hours, digging up information that might be useful and analyzing it. That was another thing she learned from observing her father.

"I want to go because I'm not allowed to." That was a nice way of saying she was defiant all the time, not just when it made sense to be. "It's suspicious. They didn't ban the kitchens last year." They made her sleep in the dungeons on the cold floor, and then they put her in solitary confinement. But they never explicitly said that she couldn't go somewhere. Rosier had never needed to- he could do whatever he wanted out in the open by scaring people. But times were different now. Now, secrecy was the way to go. Which was why they needed to know what was in the kitchen, whether it was suspicious or not. They should figure it out. After Kayne showered and (very importantly) used some nice-smelling shampoo. Because he smelled like he had just swam through a swamp. He also looked like he had swam through a swamp.

Kayne seemed to agree with her on this point, because he was fixing his nails. Who carried a nail fail kit around with them? Not Ash. Although... maybe she should. She studied her own nails, which had been carefully painted black by Eden. She didn't wanna mess them up. Maybe a nail fail kit was a good idea.

Also, since Kayne seemed to care way too much about his appearance, she doubted he'd say no to being painted as part of her project. Florrie seemed to think highly of her own appearance, and she had agreed. Kayne seemed like he might agree too. She should ask sometime.

Anyway, they should go exploring (something that Ash hadn't done in a while). "I've always wanted to go to the Cardboard Paris Room." She had been sad recently, so she hadn't checked it out yet. But it sounded cool. "You can be a soldier AND a spy, and also the vice president of the Queendom. And I also get to be a soldier and a spy, and also the queen. Queen Ashley enjoys painting, reading, surfing, flying, and exploring in her free time. And the swamp that her queendom is in is really cool even though it smells bad." She giggled. This was fun. Playing make believe. Ignoring reality. She hadn't done it in so long. Playing pretend was a little kid thing to do. Ash wished she could be a little kid again. She would have told herself so many things, enjoyed her childhood more before it slipped away.

"I know! We can survey the land. That's a majestic way of saying I want to explore." They could say that the Cardboard Paris Room was a miniature city in a giant snow globe. They could say that the kitchen was a secret vault full of secrets. They empty room was an abandoned house. The treehouse was an outpost.

It was so fun to play pretend. Especially with another person who didn't think you were stupid, delusional, or a baby.

An eyebrow was raised from Kayne. So it seems that she hadn't thought of some other, easier way into the kitchen. With the method in question, the two wouldn't even need to step foot near the place to ensure that they wouldn't get caught. Granted, this method could also be theoretically protected against since Ash had mentioned the kitchen being magically barred off, but it was still worth a shot. "Well, you're in luck. Because you're new Vice President just so happens to be decent with divining. We could just try to scry on the kitchen, because I am in agreement with you. It's extremely shifty that the kitchens are just now being restricted from students." Continuing to file his nails, Kayne added "Though, I don't have a scrying mirror. But I'm almost certain that the Divination Professor should have one. We could just simply ask to borrow one." And if that didn't work out for them, well, they could easily come up with a different plan.

"We could also, theoretically, make this Cardboard Paris Room almost like an HQ of sorts. Since we're both not in the same house, that would be an easy place to meet. Also just in case it involves some sort of shenanigans that we don't want other people to hear." Kayne was thrilled that the two were starting to make all sorts of fun plans. Anything rebellious was right up the boy's alley. Whether it was just simple pranks, to sneaking into places they didn't belong. As long as they were as covert as possible. This was almost certainly not something that they could just be doing willy nilly.

He looked Ash up and down, and watched as she was observing her own nails. Cleaning off his file from any swamp goo that might've accidentally dripped on top of it, Kayne slid it across the floor to her. "Here, for your nails that you seem to be carefully watching over as well."

Then...out of nowhere...

She mentioned her love for flying...

Kayne did a fake vomiting motion even after she just simply mentioned it. "Eugh, I detest flying with a passion that burns brighter than a thousand suns. Nothing against you of course though." He added, just to make sure she knew that it wasn't like he was gonna stop talking to her or anything. The only child of the Mordrake Family just simply didn't like flying. "However, I do really enjoy exploring, and reading is alright. I prefer futball, fashion, doing hair, and studying all forms of charms." If Kayne really wanted to, he could talk for hours and hours upon end about charms. It was always something that he just found extremely fascinating.

"Which land shall we survey first then? After I shower and change obviously. I can't, under any circumstances, let anyone other than you see me this dirty. It would completely tarnish my reputation here." That last bit was somewhat over exaggerated, but in his mind, it mattered to him.

Ash liked this scrying idea. It sounded like a good plan... and then BOOM. This SCRYING idea might turn into a CRYING idea. "Ummmmmmmm, are there ways to do this that don't involve mirrors?" She shifted uncomfortably. Mirrors. She was pretty sure they would be her boggart if she ever saw one. Mirrors. The thought sent shivers up her spine. She had smashed every single mirror in her mansion, and for good reason. She never wanted to look into a mirror again. Well actually, she never wanted to see someone in a mirror. That meant scrying mirrors, magical mirror traps, communication mirrors, and regular mirrors were all bad. Mirrors. There HAD to be another way. There HAD to.

The Cardboard Paris Room was so much better than mirrors. "Sure we can use it as an HQ, unless it's too busy or the present occupants are unwilling to share." She gave him her best super-secret-agent look. "I know some locations that could work as outposts." The laundry room, the closet she had 'repurposed', the treehouse, and the empty classroom (unfortunately had a mirror in it) were some good places to be alone.

Ash took the nail thing, and used it to file her nails better (careful to avoid any remnant swamp slime). She did a lot of stuff that would mess up her nails, like exploring and working out and throwing things across rooms in fits of rage. Consequently, her nails were a bit raggedy. At least the color hadn't come off yet. "Thanks." She handed it back.

"Well I hate doing my own hair with the passion of at least five hundred suns, and I hate divination with the passion of at least five hundred more. So we're even." She had done the math right, she was pretty sure. She didn't like doing her hair because she had no mirrors and was afraid of accidentally pulling on her hair and making herself panic, and she didn't like divination because she just didn't like it and it apparently involved mirrors. So they were even. The world was in harmony again. Etcetera.

"I say we should scope out potential HQs, Mr. Vice President. Starting with the Cardboard Paris Room." She smiled. Obviously they couldn't try scrying on the kitchen in public. "I agree, we should definitely clean up before we explore." The smell was awful. "You can be the fashion designer of the queendom," Ash said teasingly. "Since you care so much. Also because I don't know how." This was fun. Ash the queen of the Weasley Swamp and Kayne the vice president of the monarchy were going to be best friends. She could just tell.

Watching the body language portrayed by Ash, Kayne could tell that at first she liked his idea, except for the mentioning of the mirror apparently. "It would be the only way that we'd be able to physically see into the kitchen. There's another form of scrying which involves water, however, it wouldn't show us the Kitchen." The Slytherin took a momentary break before continuing "With water scrying, we would ask a question, and it would show us an answer. Typically, these answers aren't straightforward in meaning either. The majority of the time, the reflection would show something symbolic in nature." Thank Merlin that Kayne actually knew what he was talking about when it came to Divination.

Ash had stated a good point with the fact that the Cardboard Paris Room wouldn't necessarily always be empty. So it was a good thing when she had brought that to Kayne's attention. "That is very true. Now that you say that, I also know of a few places that could possibly work as an outpost for our lovely little Queendom." One in particular came to mind, which was almost always guaranteed to not have people in it. "How do you feel about ghosts?" Kayne asked. This would also possibly hint her in on the place that came to his mind: The Spirit Room. In theory, it was a good spot for them. No one ever went in there besides the ghosts. And even still, they would be understanding, right?

Kayne couldn't help but smile with delight as the two came to the conclusion that their weaknesses, were essentially the other person's strengths. So this was gonna be a pretty great team up for the two. They would really be able to lean on each other, and help each other out. This was something that was extremely important as it just would make things a lot easier on the both of them.

"That sounds like a great idea to me! When shall we get started with this your majesty?" He wanted to get to work on this as soon as possible. Hopefully, Ash would also be on that same page as well. The faster they scoped out these places that they were looking into, the faster they could get to work after all.

"Oh." Well, this was not ideal. But it appeared that there really was no choice. Ash sighed. "Well, I think we want to see stuff. We can... use the mirror... and then I... can just look away whenever I want. She looked away for a few seconds for composure. "And if mirror scrying doesn't work, we can try water scrying. That would help us if we were magically blocked from seeing in, so we could still get an answer." And thankfully, water scrying would not involve more mirrors. "You can be the lord of divination. And I can be the champion of being able to fly."

Why were they talking about ghosts now, exactly? "Uhmmm, I'm neutral about ghosts. They're mostly fine, but some of them are pretty awful." She paused, debating what to say. "A really mean ghost made me commit arson once, if that's relevant information." It had only happened two years ago, and yet it felt like an eternity. So many things had happened in between then and now. So many things...

"Maybe if the ghosts are nice, they'd help us because it would help the students. But you can't count on ghosts being nice." Ever.

"We can get started in..." ...ummmmm... "three hours. Or tomorrow, if that works better. You need to shower, and I need to find my adventuring gear." Another empty journal, camera, candy, assorted random things she had on hand... that kinda stuff. "I might also compile-" and she raised an eyebrow for maximum effect "- a list of requirements and ideas that I have on this subject." And she was going to check some books out of the library. And ask some people some questions. It seemed like they were actually doing this then. Ash didn't quite believe it, but she certainly wasn't complaining.

Kayne was certainly picking up the unease in Ash about the whole scrying situation. Something must have happened with a mirror. He had thought to himself. It was definitely a good thing that they had the hydromancy as a backup plan. Which was odd to Kayne. Normally, he never really thought that far ahead, but this was actually a nice change of pace in all honesty. "Alright, after we're done here, I'll shower and ask the divination professor if they have a scrying mirror we I can borrow then." A lie would need to be fabricated in order to get it most likely, but, a little white lie never hurt anyone.

"One of our outposts can be the Spirit Room in the dungeons then. Literally no one ever goes there except the ghosts." Then she had mentioned...a ghost...made her commit arson? That was kinda rad actually. Kayne would never do anything as intense as that, but who was he to judge? Also, she did say that a ghost made her do it. Probably via possession or something like that. He made sure not to react at the mention of it, just to put her mind at ease that he really didn't mind about that incident. It didn't change how Kayne had viewed her in the slightest. "I for one actually think that ghosts can be nicer than us humans most of the time." Thankfully, Kayne had never had a traumatizing experience with ghosts. Heck, most of the ghosts he met, he loved talking to. There was just something so punk-rock about talking to the dead that added some joy to it.

"I'd be fine with either in 3 hours or tomorrow." At this point, Kayne got up to stretch his legs and arms a bit. Then he added "If we do it in 3 hours, I might be a bit late though depending on how long it would take for me to get the mirror. Also, while you're at it, check the library for charms, specifically defensive if possible. Then we might be able to get a better sense of what's in place for the kitchen, and how to possibly counter it if needed."

"It's up to you then, on where and when we can meet." This was something that Kayne was really looking forward to. This was something that could become one of Kayne's biggest adventures here at the castle. Who knows what kinds of twists in turns lay before them? But that's what made it exciting. The uncertainty of what might happen. That thrill it gave, the releasing of the adrenaline. All of this was what Kayne really enjoyed. He was never one to just do boring old stuff like sit around and do nothing all day. So it was nice to know that there was someone that he could finally do all this stuff with.

He was never one to just do boring old stuff like sit around and do nothing all day. So it was nice to know that there was someone that he could finally do all this stuff with.

"Better you than me. I'm not the best at divination, so I think the professor would ask more questions about why I want one. And I don't think that anyone would expect me to ask for a mirror ever." Kayne seemed to know all the divination stuff, so it might be less suspicious for him to ask. "And if you can't get one-" Ash's eyes sparkled "- we can use the water scrying thing without a professors help?" Because adults were notoriously untrustworthy and they hardly ever did the right thing. But it was okay. Ash didn't need their help when she had the lord of divination on her side.

Ash bit her lip. "I guess if the ghosts are okay with it, we can chill there sometimes. If ghosts are nicer than humans like you say they are... I'm not sure whether that means that ghosts are nice or humans suck." Honestly, Ash was more inclined to believe that humans were awful. "Are you sure that ghosts won't snitch?" Because if ghosts weren't trustworthy, they'd be better off with a different abandoned room. And Ash could think of a place where nobody ever went. She knew how to get there, but she wasn't sure if it even existed anymore. And she had never dared to look, because honestly she never wanted to go there again. It's why she didn't bring it up to Kayne. It might have been a good idea, but it was a good idea that she hated.

"We can get stuff together today and try to get a scrying mirror, but then maybe meet back up tomorrow. I might need a lot of time to research. And you might need a lot of time to get the mirror. And shower." Mostly the shower part. "And then tomorrow we can look for empty rooms and try some divination." Honestly, if divination magic would correctly tell her if Healer Poppy was genuine or not, Ash would regret ever doubting it. Promise.

Kayne nodded as she recommended that it was indeed, best for him to go get the mirror. "If you don't mind me asking, why don't you like mirrors?" Even though he tried to bite his tongue, the boy was just too curios as to why. Was it just a superstition thing? Did she have a bad experience with one? Did she, for some odd reason, not like her reflection maybe? Kayne highly doubted that last bit, but the thought still went in his mind.

Now as for the ghosts, Kayne spoke "Technically, the spirit room is like the ghosts' hiding spot, however I haven't seen them there in a while. And as for that other bit, most of the time ghosts are troublemakers themselves." He thought it was rather obvious, but some don't know as much about them. SO he went on to say "That is why they haunt places after all. Some of them are just wanting to fool around because what else is there to do when you're dead?" In his personal experiences, ghosts never really snitched unless it's like someone's casting an unforgivable or something dire like that. "The ones that aren't like that tend to be just neutral. They might tell us to stop, but I highly doubt that they'd snitch." Since Kayne was also in a giving mood, he consoled her with "Don't worry, in the off chance that something goes awry, I'll take the fall for this." It was his idea after all, not hers. So why should she have to go down all the way with the ship when she wasn't the captain?

"That sounds like a plan to me! So let's meet back up here tomorrow then?" Since they had the whole day, Kayne was also probably gonna try to do research on his own. Quickly fixing his hair, the teen shot a smile in Ash's direction because he was glad to now have a new friend here at the castle. Especially one as exciting himself, which was kinda rare in all honesty. He either found people who were exactly like him, or not at all. There really was no in between.

Ash bit her lip. Did she really wanna tell him about mirrors? No, not really. It might change how he thought of her. But like, it was no secret. Better if he found out from her first instead of someone who thought she deserved what had happened.

“I got put in a mirror once. A year ago. For like, two months or so. Not very nice of him. I got out on May ninth.” And her thirteenth birthday was May third. So. That had happened. The light in her eyes dimmed a little bit, and she sniffled. “Sorry.” She just didn’t like to talk about it a lot. Not now. Not when she was having fun.

“That’s why I don’t like seeing my reflection. Or other people’s reflections. Or reflections of anything, really.” Ash shrugged nonchalantly, which was a facade. And then she blinked to hold back tears as secretly as she could

Anyway.

“If you think the ghosts are safe, then I trust you. Maybe we can use their ghost wisdom to help us. Or ghost troublemaking skills.” Nobody would suspect a ghost of spying.

Ash nodded when Kayne talked about getting caught. She didn’t want to throw him under the bus, but she would have offered to take the blame too if she was in his position. “Fine. But if it’s my fault somehow, we can blame me instead.” It was only fair.

“We’ll meet up tomorrow,” Ash confirmed. And there were things to do in the meantime. Ash was glad she had a partner in crime like Kayne. She thought they made a good team.

Yup...that was a pretty good reason to not like mirrors. Kayne couldn't help but frown at even just her mentioning what had occurred. "There's no need to apologize to me for that. If anything, I should be apologizing that something traumatic like that happened to you. So I'm sorry." He tried his best to console Ash. "We don't have to talk about it since it clearly is upsetting to you. But regardless, I want you to know nothing bad will happen. I have to protect my queen after all." The fourth year couldn't help but jest a bit, to try and somewhat elevate the mood.

The two students definitely seemed to be on the same wavelength for a lot of the things being brought up though. Kayne said "That's also, something that briefly crossed my mind. I wasn't going to call out to any of the ghosts and be like hey ghosts, can you do something. However, if needed, we did always have that option." During this moment, the Slytherin boy had grabbed onto his boots in one hand, and his wand in the other. Turning towards the swamp, he gripped onto his shoes with all his might and said "Ventus!" After doing so, a gust of wind sprung forth from his wand, delicately drying off his once damp shoes.

Attention now directed back towards Ash, Kayne graciously smiled, "There's no need for that. I haven't really actually gotten into any trouble here yet, so you don't have to take any of the blame." Even before her mention of the mirror incident, Kayne wouldn't have let her get in trouble. But now, he really wasn't gonna let her take any blame for it. The girl has been through enough already, so there was no way that Kayne was gonna let her go take the potential consequences of this. Slipping his boots back on, the fourth year said "Perfect. I can't wait."

This was going to be epic.

Ash was really only apologizing for Kayne having to see her like this. Queens weren’t supposed to cry in public. This wasn’t exactly in public, but the Vice President was still here. So no crying just yet. Ash laughed at Kayne’s comment about protecting the queen. She would have said she didn’t need protecting, but that wasn’t true anyway. She pretty obviously did. “I’ll protect you too, Vice President.” It was the least she could do, and Ash was much better at protecting others than protecting herself.

“We’ll only consult the ghosts if we need to.” Like if they were in imminent danger. They probably didn’t have to. Ash hoped they didn’t have to. Ghosts were scary.

Ash was impressed by Kayne’s seeming obsession with himself. Constantly cleaning his hair and nails and shoes and clothes... Kayne would have HATED the room. She definitely nominated him for the most fashionable person in the queendom. And she also nominated herself for second place, because she looked great and had great hair and nails and also looked great in leather jackets. Maybe not quite as cool as Kayne, but Ash thought she deserved a solid second place. After all, there were only two of them in the queendom. So it wouldn’t make sense if she got third place. Logic.

“If you get in lots of trouble, I will say sorry by letting you pause to file your nails after detention.” It was a joke, obviously. She could apologize better than that... duh.

Ash stood up, making sure it looked COOL because she was the queen and the queen has to look COOL. “I guess” -and here Ash made a secret agent face and made her voice sound cool- “it’s time.” Was that cool enough? Because if there were any secret cameras around here, Ash wanted to look super cool.

Secret Agents needed to look cool.

Everything was falling into it's perfect place for Kayne. He had made a new friend, they were about to embark on all sorts of cool and wild adventures, and the two would have each other's backs throughout this fierce ride. Hazel eyes gazing towards the girl, Kayne replied "We'll protect each other." He was glad that his joke helped cut the tension that he created. They couldn't be sad throughout their explorations together after all. Kayne also nodded in agreement to Ash's remark about when they would have to possibly contact the ghosts, letting her know that he was on board with that part as well.

Shifting his weight to his one leg, Kayne leaned back against the wall while his Queen had arisen so very gracefully. As she said the bit about saying sorry after detention, a laugh echoed at from Kayne. The joke was hilarious to him, because it was so true. If he had gotten detention, he would most likely be filing his nails the entire time in all honesty. Well, that was a slight exaggeration, but did it really make a difference? Not really.

Gesturing for Ash to start heading out, Kayne said in his narrator voice again "It is time. After you, my liege." A dramatic bow was given to her as well. Before they started to move out though, Kayne added "Shall we do our best slow-mo walk out of here?" Just to add that extra little effect. Kayne liked making spectacles of even seemingly mundane things. Being extra was his forte after all.

Ash looked into Kayne's eyes. Her own eyes were a deep brown, like a void (pretty accurate representation of her personality). They could be scary sometimes, but to be honest... if she was in a movie trailer where the camera zoomed in on her eyes, it would look ABSOLUTELY SICK. She thought someone should hire Ash and Kayne to be in an action movie. No joke. They would be the COOLEST best friend main characters.

Ash flipped her hair for dramatic effect. It had pink streaks in it, so it looked extra super cool. And she even slo-mo crossed her arms, giggling as she did so. "We should absolutely slo-mo walk down the corridor, just in case anybody's watching." From another dimension. Or the afterlife. Or just spying on them. Ashley Fox was going to be ridiculous and have fun today, and she didn't care who knew about it.

And with that, she proceeded to walk(in slo-mo of course) down the corridor, trying and failing to keep a straight face.

As Kayne's eyes met Ash's, he made sure to give a friendly wink. The maniacal twinkly in his own said it all. It was the look that they were about to do some somewhat mischievous, and extremely defiant acts while spending their time here at the castle. This was just the start of the two's troublemaking as well. They would certainly make some spectacles throughout the school. People would know who they were. To Kayne, any press was good press; because at the end of the day, if people were talking negatively about them, they were still getting the recognition that they deserved.

Mordrake cracked a sly little grin as his partner in crime added that 'in case anyone was watching'. He loved people who weren't afraid to be their most authentic selves, no matter who was watching. A second or two after Ash started her slo-mo walk, Kayne began to follow behind. To match the energy in the air, the boy tussled his own hair. Also, just for that little piece of extra-ness, he flicked his wand in the air causing red sparks to fly out and trail behind them.

It was time to get this show on the road.

If only she were as good at catching lizards.

........ "Um." She stared at the tail with wide eyes, dangling it in front of her face. This was so weird. She couldn't give Adam a TAIL! Where was the rest of the lizard??? Her whole demeanor shifted to a frantic sort of way, only heightening when Lisa suggested the lizard was maybe HURT.

O___________O

This had not gone according to plan at all whatsoever. "We have to!" She agreed, plugging her nose and digging through the muddy swamp liked her life depended on it. "Lizard... Liiiiiizaaaaard? Where are you???" This was so bad. Did Lisa know how bad this was? It was really, really bad. Kins was freaking out.
THEY JUST HAD TO FIND TBE LIZARD! Oh MERLIN. She simply nodded in agreement with Kinsay who had already agreed with her but Lisa felt like nodding was the only appropriate thing as the older girl began digging into the swamp.

Fortunately Lisa still didn’t mind getting covered in muck and dirt so she jumped right into the task at hand, sifting through mud to find the rest of the lizard. A solid three to four minutes had passed (or what felt like it) and Lisa saw no light at the end of this tunnel of tasks.

She paused halfway through and glanced up. “Maybe… we could lure it with food? It’s food? Like bugs!” she offered Kinsay.

This was so hopeless. Adam would be so disappointed.

A liiiiittle hope was restored when Lisa suggested something genius though. "That's a good idea," she agreed quietly, thinking lots and lots. "We can find pillbugs outside and lure the swamp lizard with those." After a long and much needed shower. "Maybe we should take a break and meet up after dinner."

Assuming Lisa would still want to help. Kinsay wouldn't really blame her if she was tired of sifting through swamp mud though.

She’d need a bath before dinner too.

Lisa was all game in trying after dinner was served because she was starting to get very, very hungry. She nodded not once, not twice but thrice enthusiastically. “Okay! I’ll meet you after dinner. Meet outside the Great Hall? We can grab the bugs and then come back and get a lizard for your friend!
