Default Flying Lesson 1 - Stop

The weather is brisk and clear as students make their way to the Training Area for today's Flying lesson, due to begin at 11am sharp. Professor Kazmi - or Mr Kazmi, he doesn't mind which, just keep it respectful - waits at the edge of the Training Area for the class to arrive, along with a small selection of school brooms for those who manage to forget their own despite the reminder. Fifty feet or so along from the perimeter from where the class is gathering, several small platforms are visible, set up at intervals of a few feet.

While waiting for the class to arrive, Mr Kazmi finishes marking off a large square on the ground with small orange cones, inside which is enough room for the students to gather; he greets everyone as they arrive. "Feel free to stretch and warm up a bit, if you're feeling the cold. Run on the spot, do some jumping ja-... star jumps, if you like, just be careful not to smack anyone around the head." Standing in place is also fine, just no complaining about the cold if so. Thanks.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Ash would never, ever, ever, forget her broom. EVER. Ever since her broom was exploded and she broke her arm, she was very careful with her replacement. It was a super expensive broom, after all. Flying wasn't her favorite subject, but she was good at it and she might as well have the best broom she could possibly have. It was an investment. Ash wanted to ask Professor Kazmi about insurance, but she didn't, because she would sound dumb. Even though she clearly needed insurance, because the Neo-Alliance had smashed her broom. And it absolutely sucked to replace.

"Hey Professor Kazmi." Ash managed a smile, because she liked this professor, even enough to call him professor. Even though this class always reminded her of Aguilar, and the exploding brooms incident. She had at least one good memory from last year- that one time when she won an apple and a coupon to the broom store. So... this class was okay. Mostly.

Ash did some leg stretching, or whatever. Not because she was cold. Ash didn't mind the cold. But her bodyguards had said that you always needed to stretch when it was cold so that you wouldn't get an injury. And Ash got in way too many accidents to get hurt doing something stupid.

Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE!

Margaret was never ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER going to be late for flying class. She would skip breakfast, the most important meal of the day, if she had to. Luckily that wasn't necessary today. She had a normal breakfast, enough to keep her full until lunch.

She'd fetched her own broom from the broomshed, and was dressed for the weather and the anticipated wind, with her hair tightly braided to mininize tangles once they took to the air.

"Good morning, Mr. Kazmi!" she said happily as she took up position next to Ashley with the biggest grin. "Great day for flying, huh?" She bounced on the balls of her feet, broom in hand, as she waited for the rest of the class to show up. Waiting was hard. At least she could wait with Ash.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

It had become evident in earlier classes that flying class was not Daniel's strength. Since his first day, the school broom that he used had smacked him right in the face as if it had sensed his nervous state and even after a couple of classes the first year was still not improving much. But this did not take away from his enthusiasm to learn. He wore the biggest smile as he entered the training area with a broom in hand. Ready to tackle another lesson or rather try not to fall off his broom again...

"Hiya profe-- I mean, hello Professor Kazmi" he greeted before he walked over to Ashley and Margaret. "Sup?" he asked as he placed his broom next to him on the ground. Ash he liked but Margaret he was still unsure about...
As for warming up, he wasn't that cold but could do a little bit of arm stretching so that was what he did.

Remy was RUNNING across the grounds to make it to the flying area. It was never a quick walk down a corridor to get through the grounds, and Remy was forever panicking that she would walk too slow. Of course, she never was, and arrived at the flying lesson in plenty of time. She was always so excited to practise flying a broom, and couldn't wait to get her own next year.

She arrived and grabbed one of the brooms that were laid out on the floor, grabbing her breath, too. "Hello, sir, Kazmi." Remy grinned. No need for stretching here, she was totally already warmed up.

Okay, so the last few flying lessons haven't gone well for Ollie, but maybe today will be different... Probably not. She pulled herself together and prepared herself for flying classes making sure to ice any bruises from the previous lessons. She made her way to the training area and greeted the instructor. "Good morning." She said with a sharp nod. She was NOT looking forward to this lesson. She passed Remy on her way to her spot and nodded hello to her. She wasn't trying to be rude, but didn't feel like going through the whole how are you? doing good, what about you spiel. She began some stretches, physically and mentally prepping for this lesson.

Alfie was so excited about flying! He had been looking forward to learning how to fly all over the summer in anticipation of coming to Hogwarts. So he had been excited to start learning right away after getting to school. He always enjoyed flying lessons. And he had been practicing flying and learning quidditch with his dormmate Jasper. It was all very exciting. The very first time he had gotten on a broom he had fallen off and gotten a bloody nose, but that had done nothing to dampen his excitement!

Alfie followed behind his other dormmate Daniel down to the pitch. He didn't have his own broom so he was borrowing one of the school's brooms. "Hello professor!" He greeted cheerfully as he came onto the pitch. Daniel went over to a pair of girls, a Hufflepuff third year he recognized but whose name he could not remember, and a Ravenclaw he didn't know. But Alfie followed his dormmate over and gave all three of them a cheerful smile. "Hello!"

What were they doing now? Stretching to get ready? Alfie set his borrowed school broom on the ground, and sat down next to it. He began stretching out, touching his toes, etc.

After using the School’s deplorable brooms last term, Claudine wished that she could have gotten hers from home. This was not to be the case as her new living arrangements prevented her from retrieving it. That and the fact that she had not wanted to contact her family. And though she could afford to buy one, at present her money was being put to better things for her future. It was going to be a borrowed broomstick for her again.

“Good morning, professor.’’ For the zillionth time, the Snakette missed Aguilar. Just imagine that she had actually vibed with a professor. Well, an ex professor. Anyway. Claudine was still adjusting to Kazmi but he was okay. Not Aguilar okay but just okay.

As for warming up? Yes, that could be done. She began to do stretches.

He didn't have his own broom, not something he'd really wanted, so Evan had had to leave early in order to go and collect one of the school brooms in order to use for the lesson. It was a ritual he was used to doing at this point for flying lessons, and he knew he wasn't the only one either. Following the rest of those who had borrowed brooms, he offered a "Hello, Professor Kazmi" as he passed the Professor and went to stand next to his fellow third years, Mamie and Ash.

He considered stretching, but he wasn't feeling very cold nor was he feeling very stiff having already walked from the castle to the pitch, so he opted instead to just stand there, broom in hand while he waited for the beginning of class.

Lisa was half nervous and half excited for this class. Jasper had made her feel super excited about it but when she woke up this morning... well... she wasn’t sure if she could get to his levels of enthusiasm around Quidditch and flying that he was at. The first couple of classes had been frankly embarrassing for the Ravenclaw so much so that she had almost considered skipping class.....

However with her brother Evan here, she knew she wouldn’t have been able to got away with that. Thus she was here.

She gave a smile to the classmates that she knew as she walked over and then she turned to address Professor Kamzi. Hopefully... uh... no almost almost visits to the Hospital Wing (in reality- she hadn’t been terrible or close to being injured- she just was terrified of heights) or dying of embarrassment because the broom wouldn’t listen to her. “Hi Professor,” she greeted him before making her way over to Claudine. Maybe if she really messed up then she could hide behind her? “Hi Claudine!

She gave a smile to her friends.

You would think with the way that Kinsay and Emmerson shared a single brain cell, that they would have the same opinions regarding all of their classes. It was mostly true, that they shared opinions - except when it came to flying. Whilst Emm never showed any interest in the activity, Kinsay liked flying loads and loads. There were some times when she pretended not to like it much, but only to keep Emm from feeling left out. And there were some times when Kinsay really didn't enjoy flying much, but not because she didn't like doing it; it was only because all things flying and Quidditch reminded her of her dad - and it was just really hard being away from him during the year.

She was trying not to think about that stuff though. It made her sad.

So instead, she tried to think about other things as she made her way to the Training Area with her broom in hand. As she neared, she noticed a few distinct groups and realized she could not stand next to any of them. The group of third years would have been her first choice, but Ashley was among them and.... That was an immediate no. Kinsay would never. So she very strategically avoided all of them as she walked over. She wasn't about to stand by first years either so, um, so maybe she'd just wait by herself and hope that her other friends would join soon.

"Hi Mr. Kazmi," she offered him a small, fleeting smile in greeting before starting off on her star jumps. "For flying club, can we fly over the lake and watch the sunrise sometime?" She'd do it by herself, but she didn't want to do it by herself so. Maybe it'd be nice to enlist a professor in the effort.

Practical and comfortable shoes? Check.

School broom? Er...Atlas had had to double back to collect one of those, so it was a good thing that he took to heart the notion of 5 minutes early was already 10 minutes late. Especially since it took him about 10 minutes sorting through all the brooms before he found one he liked. He didn't really know what he was looking for and every single time he went to collect a broom he was expecting a moment like when he first got his wand. They were both magically enhanced and resonnating pieces of wood so...it really wasn't THAT crazy a thought. Brooms were kind of party poopers for not having some sort of reaction though. Save for when they did not like you which seemed to happen to Atlas often.

Or he was just a poor flyer like he was a poor dancer. Two left feet and two left hands? Something like that.

Anyway, broom in hand FINALLY...the Gryffindor made his way to class and was strategic in his whole standing placement. There were people he WANTED to stand beside...but then they were standing beside a person he didn't want to stand by. But standing beside his housemate, Remy, seemed like a comfortable solution so that was what he did. "Hey," he greeted her with a small smile before rubbing his jawline again. He still couldn't stop doing that now that it was getting all square and set. No more pudgy rounded marshmallow jaw for him. Puberty was wild...and Atlas wasn't too sure that he liked it.

Glancing ahead, the second year offered a smile for a greeting and a look that promised today of all days would be the day he would NOT fall off get unjustly thrown off his broom. Probably.

As for doing any sort of physical activity...he lightly hopped a few times and then did some bouncing lunges for a bit and then it was back to hopping in place. Though this second round looked a whole lot more like rolling on to his heels and then toes. Heels to toes, toes to heels. Rise and repeat.

Isabella had eaten a good breakfast that contained toast, youghurt with cereal and some some pumpkin juice. She had on the way out picked up a banana so she had an in case fruit. With comfortable shoes on and her broom from home Bella was set for flying class.

Coming down to the meet up spot with her broom in hand Bella turned her gaze to the flying instructor. "Good morning Mr Kazmi." Going over to stand by her fellow snakette Claudine she mumbled. "Hi Claudine!" before she began to do warm up stretches.

This was her favorite class and flying through the air was one of her favorite feelings and Cece was just real happy to be here, okay? The sixth year wore a smile as she approached the group, her broom in hand and her long hair pulled back from her face. She was ready to go.

”Hello Professor. Great day for flying.” A bit crisp, but she had on enough layers to keep warm and nothing was going to bring her mood down right now. Taking some space for herself, she set her broom down and did some light stretching. She didn’t love sitting still, so some warming up suited her nicely.

There was certainly no worry about Emmerson leaving Kizzy alone for long. Shortly after her arrival, Emm came trudging across the grounds her broom magically dragging along the ground behind her. While her left arm had been mostly set to right and now only ached when too much pressure was applied, the right was fully slinged up and waiting for the bones to set themselves right again.

For all the good that did.

Humanity was dead.

Compassion, its equally deceased brother.

No one cared for the woes of an injured Gryffindor anymore. It was punishment this and stupidity that and overreaction here, and abysmally deplorable reasoning there.

Whatever happened to “how are you, Emmerson?” or “you can sit this one out, bud”?

Quite sullen, Emm came to a silent stop by her best friend, bracing for whatever look the Professor would have for her. Watch him make her fly with broken limbs because he was determined to make sure she never got away with this. It would be just like him, she was sure.

Dahlia headed towards the training area for the late morning flying lesson, with her broom in hand. While it wasn't the greatest broom on the market it was hers and she was proud to be a second year now and able to bring it along with her from home. Thankfully, she hadn't been nearly as accident so far this year as she had been last. Sure more lessons ended up with her on the ground or sporting a few new bruises but that was parting of learning.

"Hello, Professor Kazmi," Lia greeted with a warm smile as she found herself a spot to stand and set her broom down beside her feet. Since there was a little time before the lesson began, she ran her fingers through her long hair, pulling it all back as neatly as she could and used the hair tie she had around her wrist she hold it in place. Now all she had to do was a bit of light stretching and she would be all ready.

Truth be told, Heath was not a fan of flying. Actually, it wasn't so much flying as it was heights in general. Regardless of his feelings, he thought it, like most things, was worth learning. He never knew what skills he might one day need as an actor or in real life! Maybe that’s what kept him from dropping this class, or maybe he just wanted to keep his schedule as full as possible to distract himself from the trauma of last term. Whatever the reason, he was here and ready to learn.

He made his way to the training area, school broom in hand. “Good morning, Professor Kazmi,” he greeted, watching with curiosity as the man set up the cones. Then he saw the platforms, and memories of that disaster of a diving lesson from last term came rushing back… watching his classmates blasted out of the sky, fearing he - or worse, his girlfriend - would be the next target. Please tell me those aren’t for what I think they’re here for! He thought.

Although Heath wasn’t fussed about the cold, he would still do some stretches anyway. He approached Claudine and the two younger girls (Lisa and Bella), taking care not to accidentally stand in front of them and block their view with his height. “Hi,” he greeted the trio as he began his stretches.

"Hello, Miss Fox," Kamran nodded at the Ravenclaw as she arrived, pleased to see her there. Kid had some stuff to work through, and Kamran was of the opinion that physical activity - sports, specifically - was an ideal thing for such kids to dive into, or to maintain. Where possible, at least. That was half the entire point of his last job.

"Morning, Miss Turov," Kamran greeted the second third year, dropping down another cone in the square, and trying to judge how wide this thing should go. Little more couldn't hurt. "Excellent conditions." Clear skies, hard ground. If the ground of the Training Area was not specially charmed to cushion itself in case of a sudden impact, Kamran might have had a few reservations, but that wasn't the case. Even if so, he'd have continued as planned anyway. Always served to be prepared.

Kamran couldn't deny a bit of extra appreciation for this one - though he absolutely would deny it, and he treated him no differently to the others. It was Yoon's determination for him, his patience and dedication to trying to master flying, though he certainly wasn't... a natural. By any means. Tenacity was something Kamran liked to see in these kids.

"Hello, Mr Yoon." He almost a comment that maybe today would be the day, but decided against it, in case Yoon took it as a jibe.

She arrived and grabbed one of the brooms that were laid out on the floor, grabbing her breath, too. "Hello, sir, Kazmi." Remy grinned. No need for stretching here, she was totally already warmed up.
"Morning, Miss Gaeltheos." Hm. "Let's make it Mr Kazmi or Professor Kazmi. They never did get around to knighting me." It was unlikely the young Gryffindor even meant it to sound like Sir Kazmi, but he was rolling with it. Again, a little more patience for the younger ones. There was a time he could never, though admittedly at that time it was a screaming horde of ankle-biters with whom no reasonable human could be expected to have any patience. "Try to remember to collect a broom from the broomshed next time."

Kamran always kept school brooms within reach for those who forgot, but was big on responsibility, and on students collecting their own if they didn't have their own. It was a helpful gauge too; if forgetfulness was a frequent problem, there was a separate conversation to be had there.

To show there were no hard feelings, "Good to see your enthusiasm, as always."

Another one who wasn't a natural flyer, but who persisted nevertheless. Kamran hoped that he could impress on these kids that they didn't need to have natural born talent to end up with excellent flying skills (though it obviously helped, of course). Much more of an accomplishment, much more gratifying, when there was at least some element of hard work. Might be worth a word if Burke started getting especially disheartened, but he wanted to see if she could get herself through it first.

"Morning, Miss Burke."

SPOILER!!: Alfie

"Good morning, Mr Ramsey." A particularly buoyant Hufflepuff, who more than made up for the less impressed members of the class. Kamran didn't need them all peppy and happy, per se, but such an influence in their midst was probably good, because he didn't exactly slot into the role of morale booster very easily himself.

The point was, the positive attitudes were always appreciated.

SPOILER!!: Claudine

And though she could afford to buy one, at present her money was being put to better things for her future. It was going to be a borrowed broomstick for her again.

“Good morning, professor.’’ For the zillionth time, the Snakette missed Aguilar. Just imagine that she had actually vibed with a professor. Well, an ex professor. Anyway. Claudine was still adjusting to Kazmi but he was okay. Not Aguilar okay but just okay.

As for warming up? Yes, that could be done. She began to do stretches.
Kamran could tell that some of these kids still weren't used to him yet, and that was perfectly fine with him. He'd expected resistance, especially from the older kids, and more of the same from anyone who distrusted a new face at the school after all they'd gone through. Tentative acceptance and civility was more than enough for him to do his job, so the maturity of the Slytherin girl was appreciated.

"Good morning, Miss Blaze," he greeted her in return, glancing over as she found a place. Meanwhile he kept working on coning off the square around the students.

"Hello, Mr Nam," Kamran greeted the Ravenclaw as he joined that pair of third years, to form the start of a group. Always interesting to see how the class split itself up, and always helpful to keep one eye on dynamics between students. Easy way to prevent... issues.

"Good to see you, Miss Nam." Maybe sooner or later the first years would collectively realise that not being instantly amazing at flying was an experience many of them shared, enough to suggest that they were not destined to struggle with it forever. That it was not so different from learning their first spells.

And if they didn't get there, Kamran would just have to bring it up himself. Until then, subtle encouragement for those who stuck it out.

SPOILER!!: Kinsay; brain cell co-owner
Quote:

Kamran noted James standing separate from the others, but made no comment or even so much as a lingering look. He didn't think she'd be stood on her own for long - where one went, the other tended to follow. Kamran nodded and smiled ever so slightly in return - a rarity.

"Morning, Miss James." Kamran looked towards the sky, as though considering it, and then back again. "Perhaps. I'll look into the idea and get back to you. It would more than likely need to be during a weekend." Fair warning. That way there would be no need to consider a late sunrise flight making students late for their lessons (specifically the dawdlers). They could wait and do it a little earlier, but then either Trent or Healer Poppy might be unhappy with his disrupting the students' sleep. The simplest solution was to take advantage of the weekend.

SPOILER!!: Atlas

Busying himself with adjusting some of the orange cones, Kamran didn't immediately notice he had a Flamsteed until the next moment he looked up, and there he was. One of them. Impossible for him to even make a guess which one right away; he found it easier when they were side by side, not because of appearances but their differing personalities.

"Morning, Mr Flamsteed." Maybe today would be the day. Kamran had hope. If determination was the secret ingredient, the kid would be set.

Kamran nodded to Connolly, the second of the younger students to group themselves over by Blaze. There was merit in that; the younger students having someone they trusted to help them nearby, and the older with a sense of responsibility. "Good morning, Miss Connolly." Prepared too. Just what he liked to see.

SPOILER!!: Cece

”Hello Professor. Great day for flying.” A bit crisp, but she had on enough layers to keep warm and nothing was going to bring her mood down right now. Taking some space for herself, she set her broom down and did some light stretching. She didn’t love sitting still, so some warming up suited her nicely.
"Hello, Miss Summers," Kamran called across to the next student in greeting, as he continued with the cones. One of the older ones, and with a keen interest in flying, he was glad to have her in his lesson. A presence many of these kids could look to for guidance when they were uncertain. A good influence. Always welcome. "Agreed. We lucked out today." Good for training purposes, at least.

The weather up here could be maddening when it came to flying sometimes, especially this time of year, but ultimately it wasn't so bad. Kamran knew the cold itself could be uncomfortable too, but adjusting to it was beneficial. Even in summer, flying was not generally a warm activity.

Where one went, the other tended to follow.

Even as determined as she was to get out of this class... though Kamran knew her appearance had less to do with following her friend and more to do with the consequences of a certain lapse of judgement.

"Good morning, Miss Cambridge," Kamran greeted the third year. Third year, aka, old enough to start knowing better. They'd get her there. He sent just one ultra-brief glance towards her arm in its sling and the broom trailing behind her. "Doesn't seem likely you'll be needing that." Very casual, much the same tone he used to greet the other students, even when he added, "Hang around after today's lesson. I'd like a word."

Part of learning indeed, and Kamran would firmly encourage this line of thinking.

"Hello, Miss Donovan," he greeted the Ravenclaw in return, giving her a little nod. Another student with a great attitude for flying; she'd make leaps and bounds, he was sure. Having the right attitude was half the battle, when students found difficulties in flying. That applied to a lot in life.

SPOILER!!: Heath
Quote:

Jones' unspoken thoughts were, funnily enough, more or less in line with Kamran's philosophy on learning to fly - in theory, at the very least - in the face of a fear of heights. He was here, at any rate, and the Ravenclaw's attitude was as appreciated as his attendance was.

Kamran dropped one final cone on the ground to complete the square, and nudged it perfectly in line with his foot. "Morning, Mr Jones," he greeted the student, then took a look at his watch. Perfect timing.

Having come full circle square, Kamran now stood at the front of the group of students. 11 o'clock on the dot, to the very second. You couldn't write this stuff.

"Alright everyone, let's get started." Welcome to Flying class, etc, etc. They knew where they were, and were probably - ah... for the most part - eager to get into the air. Kamran was just as eager to get them there, so that worked out well... again, for the most part. "We've addressed many of the basics of flying this term, and some of you have been working at fine-tuning, mastering, and taking your skills to the next level. We'll keep working at perfecting and enhancing these skills, so nobody ought to worry about being left behind."

Something for everyone. Keep the experienced flyers engaged and prevent the beginners from being discouraged; that was the idea when he had them all together.

"All too often we get so carried away with the actual flying that we forget the importance of a proper landing. So, tell me: why do you - or don't you - think good form is important when landing? Why shouldn't we - or should we - rely on crash-landing, or simply aiming for the ground and hoping for the best? Feel free to share an anecdote about a good or not-so-good landing, and what you think can be learned from that." He stopped, ready to hear their answers, before adding, almost as an afterthought, "If you're sharing a story about someone else's landing, don't use their name, even if they're not in this class. Be considerate." All bases covered? Probably not. Soon find out.

Kamran expected the line of questioning might be cause for disappointment for some of these students, if they thought it would lead to less time in the air today. But the disappointment might not last long. And if it did... well, they'd live.

OOC: Hello! Thank you all so much for coming to play. Class has now started, any late arrivals will reap IC consequences *ooo* so if you'd like to avoid that, just play like your character was here the whole time. Your character can reply to one or both of the questions, or share a personal anecdote if they prefer. I'll be moving us on in no less than 24 hours.

Violet had warmed up--at least she could do that--and now was standing with the other students grouped around Professor Kazmi holding the school broom she'd picked up on her way in. No, she had not 'forgotten' her broom; it was just that, even after 3 years and counting of Hogwarts, she still didn't have one of her own. Her grandfather could afford it, but maintained that he was not going to waste the galleons on a broom for her until she could demonstrate some degree of competence in using it. Which so far she hadn't, at least not according to his exacting standards.

Violet didn't much care--she didn't like flying and figured she would not be much better on a fancy broom than on the school brooms she'd been using. But she was not going to lose points or damage her academic standing by missing a class, so here she was.

And--landings! They were talking about landings--about time! Violet rather thought they should have done this in first year, that would have saved her a lot of bumps and bruises. She definitely thought that landing was very important.

Raising her hand, Violet said, "Good form is important in landings in order to avoid injuring yourself. Or damaging your broom," she added, though she was a lot more concerned about damaging herself. And...anecdotes. Well, there were a lot of stories about bad landings she could tell about herself, but she really didn't want to volunteer that. And she was reluctant to talk about other students, in case they should retaliate by telling an embarrassing story about her.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Ash's mood improved significantly in the short span of time she had been in this class, for two reasons. One, no less than four people had chosen to stand near her. Sure, maybe they were actually just standing near Mamie, but Mamie was standing near her, and it totally counted. Good news! She had friends. She smiled softly at them, offering up a collective "Hey." The other reason was Cambridge. Ash wasn't happy that Cambridge had gotten herself injured- she did have empathy, y'know. But Cambridge walked around thinking she was all that and labelling Ash as a idiot with no self-preservation. The tables had turned. Ash wasn't sadistically gloating about Cambridge's injury, but... karma. Anyway, she was in a good enough mood to smile, which was rare for her. It really was a nice day.

...the question though. Not so nice. Ash grimaced at it. "Even if you don't crash, your legs can get messed up if you land wrong. Good landing is also important because you don't want to go full-speed face-first in the ground and die. " Dramatic? Kinda. True? Absolutely. You could die if you crashed. It was probably less safe than a car. "Um... one time, my broom exploded and then I fell and broke my arm. I don't suppose you'll be teaching us how to land after you've already lost your broom though..." And there wasn't really anything she could do about that landing either- pureblood supremacists had exploded her broom and she fell and broke her arm. Not really... an avoidable... accident. "That's the only really bad landing I can remember." Even though she remembered everything that happened since she arrived for second year with absolute clarity. Meaning, she landed just fine. Except, of course, when her broom exploded.

Once Remy had caught her breath, she realised what a HOT MESS she was, and the professor had NOTICED, too. "Sorry, sir. I--I mean Professor Kazmi." Not only that, but he had noticed her picking up a broom because she had forgotten to get one before class. The embarrassment was REAL, but she refrained from apologizing a second time.

She gave a polite nod in return to Ollie before her attention was on Atlas who stood beside her. Remy smiled wide at her friend before listening to Professor Kazmi starting the lesson.

I mean... "I think it's best to aim for good form when landing." As if you wouldn't? "You could probably break your legs if you didn't do it safely." Not that it had happened to her or anyone she knew, but it was just obvious, wasn't it? Remy shuddered at the thought. "I think you need to think of how you are going to land before even descending." But that was just her opinion as a beginner.

Victoria thought that flying was one of her favorite classes. It didn't require as much mental effort as, say, potions or Transfiguration...not as much concentration as DADA or Charms....and was a complete snore!fest like History or Muggle Studies could be.

Like, it was FLYING. It was COOL.

And V had no desire to sit here and chat. She wanted to FLLLLLY. But having been in Kazmi's classes for a bit now, she knew to expect the lesson to move on eventually. But she couldn't - or wouldn't???? - stop wiggling, not even to answer the question. it seemed OBVIOUS didn't it? Only a complete IDIOT would rely on a crash!landing to stop their movement.

BUT OH.

THIS REMINDED HER OF - "Inertia!" How did she even know that word? "Isn't crash landing an example of inertia???????" Was that related? Whatever. It was probably, like, the biggest word she knew, and so she was going to flaunt it. Even if she didn't know how to spell it or say it properly. "Some guy made a law about movement, I think." Which was dumb. How did that work, anyway?

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Arms over her head while she leaned her body to the left, Claudine watched the others join the gathering. “Hi, Lisa.’’ Claudine gave the little Ravenclaw a lopsided grin. It was only lopsided because she wasn’t standing straight. “Stretch with me?” And there was Bella. “Hi. Bella.” Claudine was pleased to see that her fellow Snakette got right into stretching. She wasn’t surprised to see the boyfriend joining the little group. “Hi, you.” She gave him a warm smile as she stretched to the right.

The girl finally stood straight as Kazmi called the class’s attention. Ah, landing. A good topic in Claudine’s opinion. Her hand went up. “Good form is important not only to you but to others. I mean, you can injure someone who might accidentally be in the way as you try to land.”

Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE!

Mamie didn't have any anecdotes about crash landing. She'd always been very careful, especially now that she had her own broom. She was fairly certain if she crashed and broke her broom, her parents would never let her fly again. Like, almost positive. It had been hard enough convincing them to let her get a broom the first time, when she had a very good track record with crashes. (Read: zero crashes)

And she didn't even really know anyone else who'd crashed. Most of the people she'd ever flown with were here today, or some of the older students who played Quidditch that she'd roped into helping her train. And they obviously didn't crash. At least not when she could see them.

As she listened to the other students' answers, she nodded along. Violet had a good point, Ash had...well, she was descriptive, even the first years had good points. She tried to think if there was anything that had been left out. Well...only one thing. She raised her hand. "If there's wind, aiming for the ground won't work because you might not crash where you wanted. You might end up in the lake instead," she said.

Ollie could tell you exactly why you don't want a crash landing, just look at her legs! She was covered in bruises from falling off the broom, or crashing into the ground with the broom, or crashing into someone or something with the broom, etc., etc. "Well you don't want a crash landing because it hurts... and you'll look silly." That was something else she disliked about flying class, she looked like she didn't know her stuff. Flying wasn't something you could study for and for Ollie it didn't come easy. She figured that any of the responses from her peers could be about her.
