Ancient Runes - EHWAZ! DANCE & DERBY (Lesson one)

ANCIENT RUNES - LESSON ONE

As you come into the Ancient Runes Classroom you notice it instantly. The Room was light blue, with some florescent magenta lamps lit in the corners and another light set up near the front of the class that emitted multiple starry white lights that moved around the classroom. Surely this hasn't been the weirdest classroom set up you've seen thus far in your time at Hogwarts? At the Center of the classroom was a Dance Floor. Beyond the Dance Floor is a little band set-up. Your Professor was pacing around the band instruments that were silently tuning themselves. Making sure that his magic was perfect and that the instruments would work on their own.

Pushed off in the corner was something large it was covered in a black cloth and it's shape looked a little odd. This should not concern you. It wasn't the most interesting thing in the room at the moment after all.

As he sees the students begin to file in he turns his attention toward you. "Please stand around the dance floor, not on it. Place your belongings behind you." He also took a look down at each of your feet. "Be sure to have on those comfortable shoes that I asked you to have on before class."

Say your hellos, talk among yourselves briefly. Class will begin shortly.

_____________

OOC: Come on in. Welcome to my first Ancient Runes class of the year. BUT THIS IS NOT YOUR STUDENTS FIRST AR CLASS IC. Yes, As this is currently October IC Professor Gunter would have had multiple classes before this one. So your students should be somewhat familiar with my Professor by now, as he would be with your student.

Also please familiarize yourself with the Classroom Rules if you have not already done so.

THE LESSON HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED. POST AS THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN IN CLASS FRONT THIS POINT ON.

Lesson Log:

Felixir 05-14-2021 02:32 PM

The classroom was an eyesore, no two ways about it, and not exactly promising. Dance floor plus request for comfortable shoes plus instruments equalled a lesson activity Nem had instantly written off. Whatever. If it weren't for Ancient Runes having the potential to be both interesting and useful, and Gunter's actual knowledge on the subject, Nem may have turned around and walked right back out again. As it was, they stayed.

But they didn't greet Gunter. He'd been on the wooden bridge, they remembered, and they'd yet to approach him to talk one-to-one just yet, had limited their interactions to sporadic answers in class only, not even 'hello' or 'goodbye' at either end of the lesson period. Assessing things, feeling out the situation. Maybe it was time they spoke.

Not now, though. Obviously. Right now, went to stand off at the perimeter of the dance floor, leaning back against the wall, near the door, and far from the band.

DuckyLinJi 05-14-2021 02:59 PM

The setup for today’s lesson was not what he had expected and for a second the Hufflepuff first year had thought he had entered the wrong classroom. But no, he could see the Professor in the back of the room working on some instruments. Probably using magic to make them play on their own.

He was wearing his comfortable shoes but upon seeing the room he wished he had forgotten them and so had an excuse to leave the room to go and grab them. AKA pretend to get lost on his way to the dormitory and accidentally miss a class because he was certain that they were going to have to DANCE.

And Daniel Yoon did not dance! His brother was more the party type even if his moves were horrible.

” Hello Professor” he greeted before looking around for a place to stand. Seeing as not many students had arrived yet there were plenty of places to stand and for a split second, he thought about going to stand next to the older Slytherin because they looked SO COOL leaning against that wall near the door.

But they were way older than him and he'd feel really awkward and UNCOOL standing next to them so he chose to stand somewhere else.

Please don't make them dance today, professor T_T

TeafortheSoul 05-14-2021 03:05 PM

Likewise, Pax did not greet the professor either, but that was at least partly because she was judging whatever this was. Honestly it wasn't that she had a problem with dance floors in the right setting, but would it kill professors to just have normal lessons where they sat at normal desks and actually learned what was needed for their exams instead of everything being either quirky or feelsy or both? Pax was sick of it, but she would put up with this as long as Professor Gunter did not try and get her to talk about her feelings.

She stood next to her twin and from that spot, examined the large covered thing, because actually it was the most interesting thing in the room, potentially at least.

Jury was still out.

FearlessLeader19 05-14-2021 03:34 PM

Naturally, the set up of the classroom {the revolving lights and the magenta lamps} was rather attention catching. Claudine decided immediately that she liked it. The dance floor… not so much. Sweet baby dragons! Please don’t let it be that they would be dancing sometime during this lesson. Cue her eyeing the instruments as well.

“Hi, Professor.” Oh, stand around the dance floor? Sure, that was easy enough to do, especially since there was a tiny gathering by the entrance’s wall. Claudine and her comfortable, soft-soled shoes took themselves to a corner of the floor, eyeing the thing covered with the black cloth. Whatever the thing was.

Dumblydor 05-14-2021 05:03 PM

Alfred was highly surprised when he walked into the room. He was sure he must have walked into the wrong room before he spotted Professor Gunter near the back. So this was their classroom. Why had it taken the form of a dance floor and stage that looked like it was out of some small town talent show? Would they have to dance? The only dancing he could do was ballet, and he was sure ballet belonged nowhere near a typical dance floor.

"Hello, Professor." He was indeed wearing comfortable shoes, as expected. Alfred went and stood near his friend Daniel, who he offered a small smile before curiously observing the large covered object, which certainly seemed like the most interesting thing in the room to him.

Stefan 05-14-2021 05:46 PM

Too bright, Uncle Oakey. TOO. MUCH. COLOR. So much of the setup reminded him of their mum, and he was certain that Scarlett would have a field day today, just because of the look of the room; the bright lights, the dance floor, the drum kit. Noah quickly snapped his mouth shut as he entered the classroom(?), and deposited his bag near where he too stood a few paces away from the edge of the dance floor.

"Hello Professor," Uncle. The Gryffindor gave the man a finger salute, wishing him, again, the best of luck today. Merlin knows he needed it.

Without the usual chairs, Noah sat on the floor and busied himself re-tying his white sneakers as they all waited for the others to arrive.

Hey Ju 05-14-2021 05:58 PM

WOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"This is SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Scarlett announced as soon as she stepped into the classroom. NOT Ancient Runes, mind YOU, THAT was kind of boring. But the DANCE FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHICH... she wasn't allowed on yet. BOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hufflepuff bounced her way in, carelessly throwing her belongings on the floor before standing where uncle Oakey could see her. "HI, UNCLE OAKEY!!!!!!! I need to talk to YOU after CLASS!!!!!!!!!!" She POINTED her index finger RIGHT AT HIM from all the way over there. He was FAR, and the room was kind of DARK, HENCE her speaking SO LOUD, okay.

Anyway, since she wasn't allowed ON the dance floor YET, she chose to go stand by her older brother. He was, HOWEVER, sitting on the floor fixing his shoes.

GOODY, a SEAT!!!!!!!! And so she sat on him. Quiiiite literally.

Chelliephone 05-14-2021 06:42 PM

The request for comfortable foot wear had seemed an odd one to Evan, but who was he to question. So he had slipped into his white tennis shoes outside of the classroom, placing his normal shoes for his uniform into his book bag. The tennies looked... odd with the rest of his Ravenclaw ensemble and he was wishing he had blue converse or something of the sort but.. no matter. He highly doubted Professor was going to be judging them based on how well they matched.

Hopefully.

Entering the classroom, he nodded in acknowledge to Professor Gunter, offering a soft "Hello, sir." As he made his way to stand around the dance floor, squinting a bit due to the lights. This was an... interesting set up. He eyed the black curtain suspiciously as well as he settled into a spot a bit away from the others already congregated. He placed all of his items directly behind him.

LilFox06 05-14-2021 07:27 PM

Misa happily opted to wear something besides her uniform. It was not particularly stylish or comfortable. She took every opportunity not to be in it.

"Hello Professor." she greeted in her usual soft voice. She took in the scene. Was that a dance floor? That... was an odd choice? Or was it? She still hadn't gotten a hang of the ever changing customs here. Perhaps this was perfectly normal?

MadAlice 05-14-2021 11:33 PM

Ancient Runes was another of Violet's favorites, so she walked in feeling confident and cheerful. But as soon as she entered the classroom, she stopped, her book-bag halfway off her shoulder, a greeting to the professor arrested on her lips, and she looked around.

This didn't look at all like a classroom for Runes. It looked like...it looked like....a dancefloor! Violet was stunned, and slightly horrified. He wasn't going to make them dance, was he? In front of everybody?! Violet had a very bad feeling about this, as she managed to mumble a halfway coherent greeting and went over to an empty spot around the circle, dropping her bookbag on the floor behind her without even looking.

sweetpinkpixie 05-15-2021 08:31 AM

Jay...we've come full circle *emo*

Atlas really wanted to be good at Ancient Runes...and absolutely not just because Aries was not good at these sorts of things and he wanted to one up on his older brother. There was more to Ancient Runes that was appealing to the young Gryffindor, but something with him and the previous professor on the subject had just not...clicked. Whatever had been taught had gone in one ear and out the other which, to be fair, may have had more to do with the circumstances of last term that had more to do with his inability to grasp the subject with the proficiency he desired. But...new term and new professor...a new leaf had literally been turned over.

Stepping into the classroom brought about some instant regrets...many instant regrets.

Maybe he could just turn around and leave and no one would notice? Clearly...this was dance practice...for...something else. Yes. He might just...maybe a quick escape. Both he and his two left feet.

"Sorry...wrong classroom..." he murmured, Ancient Runes textbook still clutched to his chest as he turned to leave and avoid certain humiliation.

Kolyander 05-15-2021 12:21 PM

Runes was not her strong suit. It wasn't the most interesting of classes in her opinion, however the use of runes themselves were helpful. Therefore she was on her way. As way. With her most comfortable pair of sneakers she owned which just so happened to be mostly white with a lilac strip along the side as well as the laces. The request for comfortable shoes didn't even seem odd to her and she thought nothing of it when she had gotten herself ready for the lesson.

Stepping into the classroom, Dahlia was slightly confused by the blue lights, dance floor and.. was that a band set up in the corner? "Whoa.." she giggled softly, looking about the room slowly until her eyes fell upon the professor. "Hello, Professor Gunter. I really like the setup you have going on here today."

It had only taken a moment or two for her eyes to adjust to the blue light and honestly she liked it better than the brighter normal ones. As for the starry lights that danced around, well those reminded her of camping during the summer and she liked those a lot too. Finding an empty spot near the dance floor but NOT on it she placed her bag down behind her.

While dancing wasn't entirely her thing, she could dance a little bit. She wasn't incredibly terrible at it. It was the music she was more interested in. Music soothed the soul.

PhoenixRising 05-15-2021 12:35 PM

Apollo wasn't sure what to make of Ancient Runes just yet. The new professor seemed okay and at least he didn't seem to be having them talk about their feelings which was a good thing. Although a dance setup? Was Professor Gunter preparing them for auditions? But not everyone who was auditioning for the play took runes? Perhaps this would give him a leg up?

"Hello Professor," he said, uncertainly, as he went to stand by Dahlia.

wednesday 05-15-2021 02:46 PM

Ollie entered the class in her typical school shoes. It was weird that the professor would ask for comfortable shoes. But, upon arriving to class, Ollie realized. In the middle of the room stood a dance floor with many instruments tuning themselves as the students flooded in. She listened to the professor's instructions and stood on the very edge of the dance floor taking in the scene. What did this have to do with Ancient Runes?

Watson 05-15-2021 03:39 PM

Uhhhhh....

This was most certainly NOT her Ancient Runes classroom. She looked down at the map that she had created during her first month at school, trying to figure out which wrong turn she took. She couldn’t find one. Huh. She snapped her book close, walked through the threshold of the classroom, and looked around the extravagantly transformed classroom.

Hello Professor!” she greeted, noting him near the instruments. She gave a quick smile to her brother and her friends before standing next to Ollie. “Hiya Ollie... Guess the shoes are for dancing?” She glanced down at her own choice of shoes, happily settling for her bright pink gumboots. Certainly it was a fashion statement but it made her happy.

Would they have to find a partner to dance with it......?

This class was alright. Ash somehow related to the professor, although she wasn't sure why. Just something. She'd think about it. It was locked in her subconscious. She'd find it one day. "Hi professor."

Ash did not like to dance though. She sometimes did ballet, but that was more of an exercise thing than anything else.

She waved at Lisa and stood next to Claudine. "Hiiii. I hope the professor is dancing, and not me. Or Kale, and not me. Literally anyone who isn't me. I like the setup though." It was pretty cool. All in all, this was an okay class.

Emzily 05-15-2021 07:45 PM

Remy wasn't exactly sure where she was at first. This was the usual place where she found the Ancient Runes classroom, but she had to admit that this castle was still a massive maze to her. It looked different today. She lingered in the doorway and noticed some familiar faces before sliding silently into the room. She stood near Lisa and Ollie, offering them both a smile and a wave.

Her attention, however, was focused on the dance floor in front of them, her heartbeat POUNDING at the idea of dancing in front of all of these people. Absolutely NAWT gonna happen. The Gryffindor smiled at the professor, and looked down at everyone else's shoes to compare hers to theirs.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-15-2021 08:38 PM

Heath entered the ancient runes classroom wearing a pair of black sneakers with his school uniform. He blinked several times, though he was unsure if it was from his eyes adjusting to the bright shades of blue and magenta or from confusion at the scene in front of him. There was so much to take in, he wasn't sure where to look first… the starry lights, the band… Then his heart dropped as he saw it, the dance floor.

Oh no no no no no, he did not dance! Not unless it was required for an acting role, and that was very different. At least then if he made a mistake, it was the character being judged for it, not himself! Heath was so nervous at the possibility of dancing - or more accurately, looking stupid while doing so - that he almost forgot to greet Professor Gunter. "Hello, Professor," he said quietly.

He quickly beelined for a corner, joining Claudine and Ash. "Hi," he greeted the two girls, willing himself not to look at the dance floor. He caught a glimpse of the thing covered by the black cloth, but he wasn't in the mood to venture a guess what it was. Instead he was more interested in the band. Now that was something he could use! Could they learn the spells the professor used to make the instruments play instead of dancing? Please?

Harron Peasley 05-15-2021 10:05 PM

Florrie actually really liked Runes, but she was still not sure about the lessons at Hogwarts. And today... Well, it was proving her uncertainty was right. She had on trainers, as requested, but she still wasn't prepared for a dance floor. Or instruments. Or a covered.... thing? Whatever it was, she was not prepared.

She had planned on standing next to Noah, but seeing that annoying little first year Scarlett literally sit on him.... Well, that put her off going over there. So instead, with a nod of greeting to the Professor, Florrie went and stood next to Misa, offering her a smile and a nod, too.

Uncle Moose 05-16-2021 03:20 AM

Oakey still couldn't properly place Nemesis Upstead. Since the battle and the wooden bridge, and former Headmistress Truebridge's demise at their hands. He wasn't yet sure on his own opinion on letting them continue their education at Hogwarts but Oakey was not going to make any complaints. Nemesis could have very well decided themselves to not return. Yet here they are, and in his class no less. They had been more or less active in class to up to this point. Oakey was not going to let any moment pass by in trying to teach Nemesis.

Perhaps he should begin to open up to them? He sent the young Slytherin a court nod. Truly pleased that they decided to stick it out for the lesson.

"Hello, Daniel." Oakey gave the First Year Hufflepuff a smile. It was always a pleasure to see such young minds ready to learn.

Pax too got a nod her way as she decided to stand beside her Brother. Was it an Upstead thing to be broody and hang back? He noticed her look toward the covered object in the back. Not going there yet young lady. But your curiosity was most welcome.

Oakey was very excited about today's lesson. He did noticed his luck rune was lighting up on his right hand.

Yes a second sigh escaped his lips. The Mordaunts... why them? Two of his Godchildren just breaking rules right off the get go. "Scarlett, I am your Professor currently, Professor Gunter you should know to call me this by now. and do not rudely point. Also... stand up off Noah, let him get up. As I asked him to."

The whole sitting thing. That was an easy fix, but Scarlett was a loose cannon. "I'm deducting 3 points from Hufflepuff for not following one of my classroom rules." Respect.

Of course she can speak with him after class. They can chat anytime in his Office.

Oh well... to each their own he supposed. "Hello, Olive." If at any point she felt she needed to change her footwear Professor Gunter was LUCKILY prepared for just such an event.

Guess the shoes are for dancing?” She glanced down at her own choice of shoes, happily settling for her bright pink gumboots. Certainly it was a fashion statement but it made her happy.

Would they have to find a partner to dance with it......?

"Hello, Lisa." Professor Gunter gave the little Ravenclaw a smile and then looked at her boots. Uh...wow. Were those rainboots? Bright pink rainboots? He held back a soft chuckle. Again...if she found those to be the most comfortable footwear in her wardrobe then she was by all means permitted to wear them to class today.

"Hello Ashley. Good to always have you." He smiled her way and nodded as well. Come in and come to learn.

He couldn't quite place the emotion young Remy was feeling but Professor Gunter was pretty sure she was excited. Which got him all pumped up too. Perhaps this was a anxious excitement to get on that dance floor and dance like crazy!?

Please?

Hmmm...Heath looked nervous. Not to worry though! Oakey had it all figured out. "Hello Heath. Settle in."

Some more quiet nods. Oakey returned her a nod back. He doesn't mind them, but he wasn't going to force the kids to speak up as they were just filing into class.

With Atlas' entrance before he could leave the door shut behind him. "Made it just in time, Atlas. Very lucky." Anyone who came into class past this point would now be tardy. Huh...did he say something about this being the wrong class? ...no... this was certainly the right class. Same as it had been the other times too. Weird kid... Good kid too.

"Welcome back to Ancient Runes." Professor Gunter said to everyone now. Coming forward from the small stage toward the class who had all gathered around the Dance Floor. "It should be pretty obvious by now, but for the start of the class today I'm holding a little dance party." He took another step forward, but he misjudged the distance between the edge of the small stage and some the moving white lights moved right into his face as he went to step on to the dance floor. Awkwardly flailing his arms "Oh YIKES!" He blurted out as he fumbled downward. He didn't faceplant, but his fall did look rather unpleasant. He took a quick glance to his right hand as he noticed it's glow fading. Lot of help that was? Where was the warning? Right yes... he stood up.

"You can dance in pairs if you want to, or you can dance on your own. Dance however you like to. Ballet, Ballroom, Break Dance." He recovered. And kept speaking as though there was now unlucky tumble seconds before. "Do what you makes you feel most comfortable. No one here is going to judge you on how well you can dance. This dance floor is a judgement free zone. In fact it's my personal opinion that there is no such thing as bad dancing. Errr...keep it appropriate of course, and strictly no moshing." Yes Professor Gunter knew what moshing was and he would not let any pits open up on his dance floor.

"If you absolutely do not want to dance, I understand. All that I ask is that you stretch, walk around the floor, do jumping jacks, run in place, doesn't matter. What is most important is that you move, and loosen up. Movement is key." He looked around to the class once more to take in their faces."I promise it will all make perfect sense once the party ends, and we move on to the full lesson."

With that. Professor Gunter turned his attention toward the band that was tuning itself. He swished his wand a few times (once for each instrument) as they all started to play some rave and sweet party songs. Oakey bopped his head a bit. Oh yeah, this was good song and he was going to get dancing. He tapped his feet a bit then really got going once the chorus really picked up.

Evan couldn't help but shoot the Professor a look when he commented on his shoes. "...Thank you, sir." WAS Professor Gunter judging him on how well he could match? Was this a test? Did the Ravenclaw just FAIL?

He was debating if he should just quietly switch into his school shoes and say those were what was comfortable, but class was starting and now it would be too obvious so he just... moved his bag momentarily on top of them. Now no one could SEE the 'nice shoes'.

Uhm. But yes. Dancing, that was what they were doing now. Which... honestly Evan was a decent dancer, having done plenty of practicing with Chase and Noah over the years. But he wasn't particularly SURE if he wanted people to know that about him because for some reason it felt... embarrassing to him. Perhaps it was because it didn't fit his aloof image. Which was also silly given the fact Evan did not like that image, he just didn't know how to shake it.

Either way... he would be starting small. With some stretches as he moved onto the dance floor - it was good to stretch before physical exercise anyways. He would admit to momentarily being distracted by Professor Gunter's moves and he paused for a fraction of a second as he ... blinked .. before remembering the instructions were explicitly to keep moving. So he continued his stretches.

And debated how much he really wanted to let lose. Maybe with a partner, but for now this was enough.

Lisa and Ollieeee

AAAAAAAAAAHH... It was true, they did have to dance. Remy was NOT a dancer but she wouldn't pass up a challenge. She spent a few moments watching the professor busting some moves and accidentally let out a loud laugh. Right... let's do this.

Remy shot a look to Ollie and Lisa and said, "Come on, let's be triple partners." That was allowed, right? Hopefully the girls didn't think Remy had totally gate-crashed them.

Before letting them respond, Remy started doing the robot and continued to laugh out loud.

Been here since, y'know, forever, of course

Dancing? Not one of Quinn's preferred activities, truthfully. Especially in front of people. When Quinn entered the room he hoped that the dance floor wouldn't come into play for the lesson, though.... why wouldn't it?

Quinn wrung his hands in front of him as he looked around the classroom. He wasn't sure if dancing with someone else would make things better or worse. Definitely stretching or doing jumping jacks while other people were dancing would be just... weird... right..? Quinn awkwardly stepped onto the very edge of the dance floor and just started... bopping? from side to side. This was weird. He felt weird. He stopped and stepped off the dance floor and bit his bottom lip nervously. He was trying to think of a way to move while also... not moving..? It made less sense the more he thought about it.

"Hello Professor," he said, uncertainly, as he went to stand by Dahlia.

Lia giggled when Professor Gunter mimicked her reaction to seeing the classroom. How could she not react how she had? Music was key. It gave her sooooo many feels. It had gotten her through all of the best times in her life and many many sad and tough times too. If the entirety of the lesson contained music she was going to be fully focused the entire time.

Barely had the lesson even began and the professor went down. Right down like he had two left feet. OUCH! Lia's eyes grew wide. "Are you alright, Sir?" That fall didn't look very pleasant but Gunter was back up on his feet like nothing had happened.

Oooooh!

They were starting off with dancing! Sure she wasn't the greatest dancer every but she wasn't absolute horrible either. Normally she danced for fun though. A little bit of dance, a little gymnastics and some martial arts tossed in made for some interesting times when she was younger. As for selecting a partner..

Dahlia glanced at Apollo who she had noticed stand beside her before the lesson had even begun. "Want to be partners?" Since they were already standing near each other it only made sense to partner up.

Remy & Ollie

Lisa had been tempted to show off the pink rain boots to Professor Gunter but she refrained from doing so for now. She’d spare him the colourful and awesometastical explanation associated with these trusty gum boots for sure.

When Remy had popped in and smiled, Lisa had returned her friend’s smile. She was still saddened by the fact that they hadn’t ended up in the same house but the two of them could still be friends!

Class started and Lisa’s hunches had been right. They were going to dance.... DANCE! And then she just stared as Oakley kinda nearly face planted but didn’t. Oh phew. She averted her eyes as the Professor almost fell to the floor but then looked back when she noticed he was okay. She fought back a chuckle, concealing into a quiet cough. Welp. That was embarrassing and a little comical. She did hope he was alright. Imagine if he got hurt and had to go to the Hospital Wing.... YIIIIKES :yikes:

She turned to Remy who had asked her and Ollie to be partners. Lisa’s excitement grew almost instantaneous after the Gryffindor asked that question. Of course they could be partners!! She liked the two of them a lot. They were FUN! “Let’s do this!!!” she grinned as she watched Remy start to do the robot dance. She just started bopping, moving side to side to warm up as she thought of dances and dance moves that she knew. Y’know what dance would have been awesome if she had her toy light saber as a prop? The Geommu. She had seen a recreation and several dramas about Hwangchang and his journey teaching others of the infamous sword dance.

How did it go again? She knew that there were two movements. But how did she do them? She started off by spinning and extending her right arm out pretending she was holding a sword and elegantly going through the motions (except it didn’t look as elegant as she thought cause bouncy child).

Atlas had slammed his fingers in a door and now his face had almost been SMASHED against a door. He really needed to adjust his relationship with doors. Though at least there were no broken bits to deal with this time - though he could always ask his unrequited love, Phoebe James, to fix him up if that happened. That was obviously less embarrassing than going to the hospital wing.

"...lucky...right..." the Gryffindor mumbled under his breath as he turned right back around and found himself a spot. He would not call this lucky and Atlas could hardly bring himself to put his bag down let alone start to dance. The type of music Atlas liked was...not exactly the sort you danced to either. At least not the sort of dance that Professor Gunter was doing. It was the sort of music that dad yelled at him to turn down and would turn one's throat hoarse if you sang along with. Maybe a headache from thrashing it about so much. So, naturally, it had him thinking about why in the world they were dancing to start things off. Something to to with galdr, perhaps?

If invoking runes was going to hinge on his ability to dance...he was doomed. And just when he thought he was getting the hang of the subject too.

And you know what they say, awkward begets awkward...or awkward attracts awkward...or something to that general effect. Basically Atlas soon found himself standing beside Quinn who was looking just as uncomfortable as he was. Cue a sheepish smile and strained laugh. Atlas was more...swaying than dancing really, his balance shifting from one side to the other and ending in a toe point as he did. His arms eventually lazily swung back and forth in opposite oscillation to his body's weight.

Ehwaz? That was a movement rune, right? Could it give him a right foot to match his left foot when it came to dancing?

Their dad must've finally rubbed off on Uncle Oakey because of that sigh. Noah frowned a bit, in confusion, as he was asked to stand up. "Yes professor, but I just need a minute to--" as he was just about to explain why he needed to sit and re-tie his shoe, Scarlett happened. She'd come busting inside the classroom, pointing at their godfather, talking in top speed, and then sat on him.

Noah didn't even get a second to process things as he found himself knocked back on the floor and grunted. Scarlett did play rough when they were younger, and she hasn't changed one bit now that she's bigger and heavier. And... ooh. Points loss. Well, that was a first. Did Catherine catch that? She was going to be so upset about this, for sure. With their godfather reprimanding his sister, Noah took it as his cue to push himself and Scarlett off the ground and turned to the already exhausted man. "Sorry about that, Professor." the Gryffindor did not expect Scarlett to apologize right away, so his apology would have to do for now.

And so the lesson begins. And the lesson wouldn't be that of Professor Gunter's if it didn't have a tiny mishap. Noah was not at all surprised. In fact, if any of his lessons ran smoothly, he'd be highly sus about it.

Anyway, music, movement, and... what in tarnation was that dance, Professor?! Okay, he'd seen things from their godfather, but this was a first. And he cannot believe he'd been their mummy's ex-boyfriend decades ago. Ewwwwwwwww gross!

Shuddering, he stepped closer to the edge of the dance floor and began to stretch, opting for a movement that he was overly familiar with. Noah was not going to dance crazy since Scarlett was going to get that bit covered.

Remy, Ollie, Lisa!

Victoria thought it bold of Professor Gunter to think the dance floor would be a judgment free zone because she would be judging EVERYONE. She was a TRAINED DANCER, you see. Like, since she was FIVE.

So when he announced there was going to be a dance party, she was THRILLED. And who better to join than the three girls near her - TWO of which she felt like she could call friends. And of course, Remy could be her friend, too, if all went well during this dance party.

"Make it quadruple partners, ladies,"
V said with a deeeeep, dramatic bow as she SQUISHED her way in between Remy and Ollie. She did one of her routines she had learned last year at dancing school that soooort of went along with whatever tune was playing. And to think, Victoria had totally thought about skipping this class. HA! What a mistake that would have been!

Finding Alfie standing next to him, the Hufflepuff nodded his head at his Slytherin friend as a form of greeting when the Professor began his class. Daniel watched with the slightest hint of concern in his dark brown eyes when the professor stumbled off of the platform. Once it was clear that he was fine, however, the boy rolled his eyes. Professor Gunter could challenge Professor Schmoe for the most awkward professor.

The idea of having to DANCE was a big no for him. Again, his brother was the party guy in the family and he knew he would have probably gone crazy on the dance floor by now had he been present. But Daniel did not want to. And telling them that the dance floor was a judgment-free zone only invited people to judge. They were teenagers after all.

So no, he was not going to make a fool out of himself. The option to simply move instead of dance was what made the Hufflepuff stay in the room and so he began stretching his arms instead. "You want to walk around or dance?" he asked Alfie. Whatever he decided, Daniel was not going to dance.

V, Remy, and Lisa

Ollie greeted Lisa and Remy with a quick "Hello" and a smile before returning her attention to the dance floor. She watched as Oakley greeted the class and began explaining what they would be doing.

She winced as she watched him hit the ground. That had to hurt, both physically and mentally. Ollie couldn't imagine tripping and falling in front of a full class of students you were teaching. She would probably die of embarrassment. No, she definitely would.

She turned to Remy and Lisa and V as they invited her to be partners. How nice of them! She had been nervous that she would have to dance on her own, but was happily surprised that all three of the girls wanted to dance with her. As they began dancing, Ollie couldn't help but feel a little silly. What would this mean for the class? It wasn't her fault she couldn't just dance and have fun, she had to understand what this had to do with Ancient Runes! But, she tried her best to focus on Remy's robot, V's routine, and Lisa's... flailing?... as best she could. She tried her best to do some line dances she had learned at muggle school. Right foot forward... hip out... hand on hip... "Why is he making as dance?" She asked through some giggles. This was kinda fun!

Claudine had been standing there, shifting from foot to foot, when Ashley appeared at her side. “Anyone who's not us,’’ the sixth year confirmed. “Reckon the professor’s got two left feet?’’ Those words were hardily out of her mouth when Heath joined them. “Hi, you,’’ came her greeting along with a smile.

His heart sank right there and then when Gunter said they’d be dancing. Goodness. She didn’t want to dance in public. Claudine had only ever danced with Heath and at least he hadn’t laughed at how terrible she was. Not even Gunter’s entire episode with the lights did anything to lighten her current mood. Was the man always that clumsy though?

“So… either of you up for dancing?’’ Claudine could guess what Heath’s answer was, and for that reason her gaze was upon Ashley. Occasionally, said gaze flickered over to Gunter and she almost laughed out loud when she saw the man’s crazy moves. Comical. It was quite comical.

Hey Ju 05-16-2021 08:03 PM

Anyone fancy a hair-slap?

Okay, LOOK. Scarlett KNEW this was a class and yes, uncle Oakey wanted to be called 'pRoFeSsOr gUnTeR' at any cost, but that didn't MEAN they couldn't have FUN, OKAY? It was a DANCE FLOOR, for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND uncle Oakey deducted three points from her because she just SAT on her BROTHER, which she did ALL the TIME. SEE, uncle Oakey, Noah was still ALIVE. No harm DONE there.

The young Mordaunt squinted her eyes ever-so-slightly at the man, giving him a serious, unimpressed look that made her features resemble her father's rather uncannily.

"Fine..." She said out loud to the man, before turning away and towards her brother. "...uncle Oakey." She shook her head and looked up at Noah. "Dunno what mum saw in him." She added, rolling her eyes before snickering.

And about his fall? SERVED HIM RIGHT, hm.

See? SEE??? Even uncle Oakey knew lessons could and SHOULD be fun. Look at him telling people to dance and whatnot. She KNEW he was just trying to assert himself and show to the other kids there was no favouritism. Well, DUH, they were practically FAMILY, of COURSE they would be treated differently. Only in this case they were treated WORSE.

SHAME ON YOU, UNCLE OAKEY.

But fine, FINE. Scarlett could have FUN still. She could DANCE. And DANCE she WOULD. Wildly TOO. So off she went, jumping around and flailing her arms and head banging, her hair whipping about all over the place.

WHICH WAS NOT MOSHING, ALRIGHT, UNCLE OAKEY COULD NOT USE THAT EXCUSE TO DEDUCT MORE POINTS saying she was being dIsReSpEcTfUl as Scarlett KNEW that was NOT. MOSHING.

She was watching you with Slytherin eagle eyes, uncle Oakey, no more funny business!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alfred's stare at the covered object was broken by Gunter's start of class, as he turned to look at him instead to pay attention. They were going to be doing a dance party? One, that had nothing to do with Ancient Runes and two, Alfred never danced in public. And that meant never. The only time he danced was when he was by himself in the safe sanctity of a locked room, which was almost always his bedroom. Plus, dancing in public was embarrassing. Even though the dance floor was supposed to be a judgement-free zone, he was sure people would be judging him. He would certainly judge other people.

Alfred resorted to doing simple stretches like Daniel instead. "I'm pretty sure I'll just do this." He began doing a variety of stretches, from knee hugs to lunges, although several simple ballet moves such as the passe or the developpe were thrown in there too.

NiallNIP 05-16-2021 11:06 PM

Atlas listens to heavy metal?????? :o

When Atlas came up, Quinn got another pang of nervousness. He had been having weird encounter after weird encounter with Atlas, and he was dreading the weird conversation that was bound to happen at some point. But.... it didn't seem like that was going to happen at this moment. He returned Atlas's awkward smile with one of his own.

He watched what Atlas was doing and stood next to him, then mimicked the movements, but mirrored. When Atlas would sway to the left he would sway to the right, etc. Quinn figured out that having a dance partner was a bit better than not. Quinn chuckled as he and Atlas were just... swaying and moving their arms in unison. This could just stay how it is, right? They could just not pay attention to any of Quinn's weirdness and things could just go back to normal, right? It's not like his mom would know he was still hanging out with Atlas. But.... he was still worried about what Atlas was thinking...

Nope! Don't think about it! Act like everything is normal and everything will be normal and they don't have to talk about any of what happened in Diagon Alley because it didn't happen and everything is fine! Just keep swaying!

MadAlice 05-16-2021 11:33 PM

Anyone want to partner? (Violet could really use a little help)

Violet was startled when the professor tripped and almost ran over to see if he was all right, but he got up and righted himself almost immediately and went on like nothing had gone wrong at all. Violet envied his ability to do that; she figured she would have been frozen with embarrassment if it had happened to her.

Then she was frozen, in astonishment, when he went on to describe the assignment. It was as bad as she had thought, and worse. Dancing! Violet had had some rudimentary lessons in the basics from Miss Howard, but had never actually danced for real, nor did she think she really knew how.

She looked around, trying to figure out what to do. She thought that trying to find a partner to dance with would be unbearably awkward, but she dreaded the prospect of trying to dance alone as much or more. She wished she knew someone well enough to feel comfortable asking them.

Felixir 05-16-2021 11:44 PM

Dance party.

Naturally.

This had better be going somewhere useful.

From their place at the wall beside Pax, Nem watched calmly as Gunter flailed himself right off his little stage, eyes combing over him once he'd made his graceful landing, particularly the subtle glow on his hand, which had not gone unnoticed in the past. They were still considering his little Sir Luckless routine when the man was up and spewing instructions.

No one here is going to judge you... This dance floor is a judgement free zone. Someone was clearly embarrassingly out of touch with the world, and with the hunting patterns of teenagers especially. These Hufflepuff professors were something.

Nem winced slightly as the music got going, their first change expression since entering the classroom, and straightened up. "Coming with?" they said to Pax, though they had no intention of stepping onto the dance floor, only to walk around the edge of it. It wasn't that Nem was against exercise, or physical activity in general; far from it. But, especially in a classroom like this, lit up unpredictably and full of people who didn't much care for them, they preferred to keep their wits about them. Easier to do that at a walk.

LilFox06 05-17-2021 03:54 AM

Misa offered a small smile to Florrie who came and stood by her. It was nice to start having friends especially when awkward things like this were happening.

She made her way onto the floor and spun around before shaking her hips and swaying. This had absolutely nothing to do with runes but... the dance floor was calling and she was not one to leave it unanswered.

sweetpinkpixie 05-17-2021 05:35 AM

he might indulge in it sometimes... yes *claims a hair SLAP too*

You know what Atlas hated about being a twin? Everything in double. Know what else he liked about being a twin? Everything in double.

He was a truly straightforward individual, you know?

Quinn mirroring his movement was ... a lot in the moment. Though he would be hard pressed to say just why it was a lot. It felt like since that day in the Alley that they were on entirely different pages and not even remotely close to falling in stride with one another like they used to do. It happened, you know? Just walking along the pathways or to and from classes, the Great Hall, there was a natural rhythm that one could find with your friends and ... others ... without even trying. When you had that and then everything went off, the world felt off. Like when he and Aries lost their synergy.

There was a difference between being in sync and mirroring too, but for now Atlas was just smiling while he continued to move and loosening up. The loosening up happening thanks to Quinn's presence and their double awkwardness. He was focusing on the Ravenclaw so much that he wasn't prepared for the tornado of a Hufflepuff that was wrecking innocent havoc around the place and *WHACK* whipped right across the face and in his eye.

"OW!"

Actually, Pax was judging hard. Not so much the little kids, even though she wouldn't have been so enthused at that age. She wasn't going to dance either unless she really had to, Pax's kind of dancing wasn't really suitable for this kind of company anyway.

She hadn't expected Nem to say anything but nodded and followed with. Walking, obviously, not dancing. If standing still had remained an option she would have done that.

Maybe they could get a closer look at the covered thing.

"Oh....ok" Daniel's face fell a little bit when Alfie decided to do stretches instead of walking with him which meant that the Hufflepuff decided on staying in place as well. It was a decision he had made on his own and not because he didn't want to walk around the platform alone.

So Daniel stayed with his Slytherin friend, copying his moves because all that he knew was simple arm stretches. When Alfie suddenly threw in ballet stretches Daniel NOPED out but it wasn't for a lack of trying. He had swung his leg, it cramped up and he winced before he lowered it and pretended to be fine.

Completely fine over here!

Deciding that he had had enough before he would actually hurt himself, he looked around at the students dancing and although he did not want to, his gaze went over to look at Victoria dancing with her friends and he was surprised to see that she could dance.

That was pretty coo---

NO! It was stupid! SHE was stupid and so were her dance moves!

He forced himself to take his attention away from her and he let out a loud laugh as the boy from Muggle Studies class (Atlas), the one who had told everyone in class that he had no empathy, got slapped in the face by Scarlett's hair.

That was amazing!

Heath returned Claudine’s smile, but his face soon fell as Professor Gunter confirmed what he already suspected. They were dancing. Why? What in Hoth did dancing have to do with Ancient Runes? Never mind… He’d learned long ago not to try to make sense of the professors’ reasoning; just go with it. He watched Gunter’s fall with apprehension, both for the professor and himself. Knowing his luck, it was only a matter of time before he did something similar on the dance floor!

At least they had the option of walking… or jumping jacks or running in place. Literally anything was better than dancing! Heath had every intention of taking one of those options until Claudine spoke. The thought of dancing with her put him more at ease. He’d done it before - although that was in private, not in a room full of students who, despite what the professor said, would probably judge him - and he just couldn’t say no to her! “Okay,” he replied, nodding.

The only problem was the only dances he knew were mean for two people, and he didn’t want Ash to be left out. Okay, technically that wasn’t true. He knew The Chicken Dance and The Hokey Cokey, but those were silly kiddie dances. No way in Hoth was he doing either of those! Then an idea occurred to him. “What if the three of us take turns dancing with each other?” he said.

Quinn gasped a bit as Atlas got hit and quickly jumped out of reach from the wildly swinging hair, pulling Atlas out of the danger zone with him. "Are you alright?" Quinn asked, putting a hand on Atlas's cheek to hold his face while he examined the eye. His brow furrowed slightly as he did this, not thinking of much else besides making sure his friend was alright.

And about who was careless enough to hit his friend in the eye. Quinn turned his head towards the basically-moshing girl (Scarlett). "Hey! Would you please be more careful? You just hit my friend in the eye."

Been here alllll along

Well, Uncle Oakey was still as clumsy as ever and Cece frowned a little, hoping her classmates didn't make fun of him for it. The guy was kind of a goof, but he had a great heart, and he was also super smart about this stuff. He had this. Well, she hoped he had this. Professor-ing wasn't for everyone.

Deciding now was as good a time as ever to practice some of the dance moves Kale had showed her, the blonde put her arms out as if to dance with an imaginary partner and then began to practice the simple steps she remembered. One-two-three. One-two-three.

She hadn't expected Nem to say anything but nodded and followed with. Walking, obviously, not dancing. If standing still had remained an option she would have done that.

Maybe they could get a closer look at the covered thing.

Staying off the dance floor itself seemed the wiser choice thus far, if the flailing students and professor were anything to go by. anyone who feels like dancing with her or not lol. up to youuuu!!

SPOILER!!: Gunter and...DANCING?!?!?

________

OOC: WHOA huh Mini Activity RIGHT OFF THE BAT!? ...Yeah. Just as Professor Gunter asked of your students.
  • Go ahead and Dance.
  • Find a partner or 2. Dance together, or alone if that's their style.
  • Let them express themselves how they want on the Dance Floor.
  • If not Dancing, Stretch, or Walk around the Dance Floor.
  • You have to be moving
  • Keep the dances SS appropriate of course.
The Class will move on from there on May 18th Mid Afternoon-ish

This class...was definitely a class she never knew what to expect and Gunter didn't disappoint. Right off the bat he starts with a...Dance...Party? Huh...interesting...Way to take people out of their comfort zones right away. She held back a laugh from watching him trip a bit when he reached the dance floor she wasn't sure if it was on purpose or he was trying to keep everyone in the class in good spirits. Either way...it was pretty funny. Pulling her hair up into a messy bun, she looks around as people partnered up and the Seventh Year just shrugged and thought to herself, Who needs a dancing partner anyways...let's go dance...wow I am talking to myself a lot lately... She takes a step forward, but she freezes. She wanted to go to the dance floor...she wanted to make her way over to it, but something stopped her. Herself. Was she actually feeling embarrassed of doing this? But why? Just let yourself go! Live your life. Once again, she saw Gunter on the dance floor...I think it was...flailing with style...and feeling the music. It was definitely dance moves she had not seen before but she was entertained.

She heard the music begin to play and at first, she looked to her Professor with his choice of music. "Huh...definitely wouldn't have thought you would pick music like this, Professor, but I'm not complaining!" She said with a light smile and then brought her attention to the dance floor. Starting to see some student make their way towards it, she sighs, shook her hands, shaking off the nerves, and closed her eyes for a moment to calm herself down and tried to talk to herself to get her out there before she just pushed forward letting the music take control and walk over to the dance floor, slightly swaying the hips and moving to the music. Why did I even throw my hair up? This has to come down! and after thinking that, she let her hair fall down and she moved a little more moving to the music whipping her head from side to side and chuckling to herself just having the time of her life in the class not really caring about anyone judging her on her dancing or looking at her weird. The Seventh Year was just Living Her LIFE!!

Well, a class setting wasn't exactly the ideal location for a dance party, but Ivy enjoyed dancing so she wasn't going to complain. She also wasn't going to go crazy with dance moves though - that little Hufflepuff Scarlett seemed to have that covered.

Instead she swayed to the music, tapping her foot to the beat. Nothing too much yet, just kinda warming up. And then she noticed fellow fourth year Violet standing still. "C'mon, Violet, join us!" She smiled. "It's not so bad!"

Mentions of Lia, Atlas and anyone else!

With a quick hello Tad went to sit by Lia and his other friends. Hey Lia, do you think we're dancing or so?" He had no clue but he had some dancing lessons to his parents dinner parties they had. He was no stranger in dancing what so ever, but he really didn't like it much, well the type of boring dancing he was taught. Although he wondered why the dancing though, was something coming up like a tournament against the others school or so? Or was this just for lessons purposes only? He had so many questions forming in his head that he was confused by everything.

Hearing Professor Gunter say they were dancing he shrugged, hm.... dancing now this was his type of lesson, no books and boring lectures. Looking at Lia he smiled. "Would you like to dance m'lady?" He asked bowing like his parents taught him to do and for kicks. Seeing Atlas getting slap by the hair his eyes widened. " Oh gosh mate, are you okay?" He knew that had to hurt.

siriusblackliveson 05-17-2021 10:51 PM

dancing alone... join me?

Charlie glanced around at the people were dancing. She was 100% not sure she wanted to actually be dancing. But running, jumping jacks, or something that wild. She decided that at least swaying side to side might be best for her. Right? She at least had sensible shoes on but they were still stylish. Watching everyone else around she tried to figure out if someone didn't have a partner that she could dance with or at least lessen the awkward.

Well this ancient runes class was off to quite the start. Apollo bit down on his lower lip to hold himself from snickering when Gunter tripped over his own feet. Well.... he guessed Gunter wasn't about to be teaching them any choreography. Also, what was moshing? Was that a term he should know? He squinted over at Lia, shrugging slightly. Uhhh.... what was that Hufflepuff doing??? Running into his dormmate and Quinn?? Whipping her hair around?? Um...At least some of the other first years seemed to be respecting boundaries and not going super wild.

As for his own dance skills, he wasn't a professional dancer and would definitely not be slow dancing, but he was all about having a good time and moving. Breakdancing, perhaps if the right song played. He looked over to Lia again who he only realized now had asked him a question. Pardon him if he was distracted slightly by that wild Hufflepuff.

That was when someone decided to completely ignore him as if he was invisible and just speak to Lia, asking her to dance. "Uh, excuse you, Tad. Lia was just about to start dancing with me first." He extended his hand to the ravenclaw. "But I suppose we could do a circle group dance?" He wasn't a slow dance kind of person and even if Tad had only focused on Lia, he wasn't going to exclude him.

Okay, there was chaos around the dance floor. Claudine could see that much. One of the Flamsteed twins even seemed to be actually suffering from physical blows from Scarlett's hair. Ouch. She actually felt that for whichever twin it was. Said twin was actually cast out of her mind when the boyfriend surprised her with his response. Say what? Heath was actually up for dancing in front of a bunch of others? Wow. Of recent, he certainly was surprising her.

“If you’re sure.’’ Claudine grinned, realising that the prospect of dancing with Heath and perhaps with Ashley wasn’t such a bad thing. There were plenty of bad dancers in the room already, lead by Gunter, so one more {herself} being added to the mix wouldn’t be a bad thing. In any case, Claudine never let what others thought of her rest on her mind.

“I think we can dance together.” Group dances were just as fun? She wouldn’t know. Claudine led the way to the dance floor, choosing somewhere out of any potential danger. Um… how did she kick things off? Oh, right. Follow the beat of the music.

This is exactly what the sixth year started to do, moving the upper part of her body to the beats. It took a while for her to actually get some foot movements in there but a couple of minutes later, there was. Thank Merlin for comfortable shoes.

Kolyander 05-17-2021 11:35 PM

Tadhg & Apollo!

Lia wasn't sure what Apollo's shrug was in reference to but she could only assume it had something to do with whatever Gunter was talking about. She made a face that could only mean 'I have no clue' and that same look was given once more at the hair whipping girl too. While she had done that very same thing a few times it had been back at home and not in close vicinity of anyone else. Ouch! She grimaced seeing Atlas or was that Aries? get hit right in the eye with that girls hair. Good for Quinn sticking up for him though!

"Looks that way," she nodded her head in response to Tadhg wondering when exactly he had joined them. Boy had to stop sneaking up on her that way. Anyhow it was time to dance and in her moment of not realizing that her bestie had been near her all along, her attention had been on Apollo.

Which now left her with two boys expecting a dance. One whom she had just asked to be her partner. The other whom was being his goofball self and obviously trying to make her laugh. Which he got her to go. Dahlia giggled. "I would kind Sir but as my friend Apollo here so kindly mentioned I did request his hand for a dance as well. A Lady can not go back on her word." She placed her had in Apollo's offered at the very same time she slipped her other hand into Tadhg's. "We can all dance together to start." No hurt feelings today. They can all dance together first and then take turns if they wanted.

Ash did not enjoy dancing. She could dance just fine, sure. But dance was expressive. It showed deep truths. Now, Ash had very little tact or filter and was prone to saying whatever she thought, but she was not at all comfortable with showing how she felt or her motives. Noooo thanks.

She was going to just pace coldly around the perimeter of the dance floor. But nooooo. She was being asked to dance. But Claudine and Heath were pretty great (and super cute), so she'd dance. "Alright." Dance in a way that revealed absolutely nothing about her. She mirrored Claudine perfectly, occasionally switching something up for a few seconds to make people confused. She was satisfied that she was not giving much away- perhaps she could have fun now.

Remy, Ollie, aaaaand V (please read aaand Peggy!)

Aaaand V had joined their group! Excellent. The more the merrier. Lisa was just about to suggest inviting more but saw Daniel and Alfred standing together. As much as she would have liked to extend an invitation to either boy, she thought it would be best to keep both firecracker V and firecracker D far, far away from each other. She turned back to the group still doing her sword dance thingamajig when she saw V throwing it down.

GIRL HAD MOOOOOOOVES.

With the biggest eyes as wide as tea cup saucers, Lisa just bounced from side to side as she looked at her friend. "V, can you teach us how to do THAT? Imagine if we were all in sync. How cool we'd look!" she cried out. They'd be just like those girl groups but only cooler with magic. "We'd be like the Spice Girls!!! And we already have our V!"

Lisa wasn't entirely sure WHY Professor Gunter was making them boogie it down. It was far different from his other lessons thus far that she had experienced. It was also significantly different from the therapy sessions. She turned her gaze from Remy to Ollie. "I don't know HOW this has to do with Ancient Runes unless their is like a movement dance or we're learning a secret rune dance buuuut I like how we're not talking about our feelings. This is fun!" Even if she was a bad dancer.

Aaand out of the corner of her eye, she witnessed a hair slap and yelp. Oof. There was that energetic Hufflepuff girl. And she had smacked Atlas. Oof. That looked.... painful.

Granger Danger 05-18-2021 02:46 AM

Apollo and Lia.

Looking at Lia and Apollo he gave them a fake smile that definitely looked like a real soft warm smile. " My apologies Apollo didn't hear her say that, wasn't paying attention and it's Tadhg thanks." He too was a bit occupied by the wild Hufflepuff girl. Pulling his hand gently away from Lia's he shook his head. " Go ahead and go with Apollo, after all you asked him to be your partner, be rude to cut in. How ungentlemanly of me to cut in without asking, my mother would be so ashame of me." He could literally hear her in his head and smacking him across the head for being rude.

Besides, he was fine dancing alone and by himself, all good and fun, he didn't need a partner. Besides he didn't want to be reminded of the stupid dinner parties his parents thrown together anyways where he had to waltz and so many other dances. Yeah... he didn't like those dances, no thank you but next, he liked upbeat music. He swears if boring classical ballroom dancing was going to come on he swears he'll fall asleep dancing.

”Hey Kiz,” Cece greeted with a smile, taking the other girl’s hand. ”Thought you’d never ask.” She gave her pseudo little sis an exaggerated twirl and then let her go, doing a ballerina twirl of her own. She had to admit, this was kind of a nice way to start a lesson. Dancing made her not think so much and maybe clearing their minds was exactly what Unc-Professor Gunter was going for.

What was Nem doing? Pax was tempted to inquire in their twinspeak, but instead just casually moved so that she was walking exactly where she needed to in order to partially obscure Nemesis from Professor Gunter's view in case they wanted to make use of the cover. It was entirely automatic. And honestly? Possible sabotage had more potential as a relevant potential learning opportunity than dancing around and getting sweaty in class.

It was also somewhat of a relief to be able to slide back into old patterns with her twin after the previous term. Better than overthinking. Better than feeling unpleasant things. Everything felt better for Pax when she and Nemesis were simpatico.

SPOILER!!: Claudine and Heath :)

Truth be told, Heath surprised even himself by agreeing to dance. It wasn't like him to put himself on the line for judgement! While Professor Gunter might see the dance floor as a no judgement zone, he doubted his classmates would feel the same way. But what could he say? He could never say no to Claudine! She brought out his confident side, and they'd already been through so much together. What was a little embarrassment among friends? He grinned back at her. "Positive."

Blink, blink. What? He didn't know the steps to any group dances! His confidence wavered, but before he could talk himself out of it, he followed Claudine and Ash onto the dance floor. Keeping his eyes on his two partners so as not to accidentally meet any judgemental stares, he copied Claudine's upper body movements and a few of Ash's moves. He even incorporated a few steps he'd picked up from plays he'd been in. A twist here, a spin there…

As he looked at the floor, a thought occurred to him. Was this going to be like one of those old Dance Dance Revolution games, only with runes on the floor instead of arrows? That was the only connection between runes and dancing he could think of!

She had to admit, this was kind of a nice way to start a lesson. Dancing made her not think so much and maybe clearing their minds was exactly what Unc-Professor Gunter was going for.

Kinz knew exactly what to do when Cece took her hand. She had pleeeeenty of practice. Even though she didn't take dance classes like Emm, they always made up routines in the living room for their parents. So she had lots of practice! It was just like gymnastics, minus going all upside down. Again, Kins moved her hips side to side, cheering as Cece did a twirl of her own. This was so much fun!

"I wish we could dance every lesson." Even though it might get a little redundant. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood about it too. Mr. Gunter clearly knew what he was doing. Kinz had to give him big props for that. She almost didn't even want the actual lesson to ever begin. Couldn't they just dance the whoooooooole time, please?

He too was a bit occupied by the wild Hufflepuff girl.

HUH?!

Dahlia stood there in complete confusion as her bestie pulled his hand gently from her grasp. That sweet soft smile of his and those kind apologetic words weren't following her. With how long they had known one another, she knew something was going on right away. Mood swings were one thing but this was just all kinds of strange. She had told them both they could all dance together, they were allowed to do that, so what was Tad's problem?

"No, what's rude and ungentlemanly is this," Lia muttered waving her now free hand at him. "I can have more than one partner, you know. That's allowed. And I think your mum would be more ashamed of you upsetting me over something so silly right now." Yeah, she pulled the mum card since he went and did it first. Plus she knew his mum well enough to know how she would be laughing at the two of them right now and telling them to just dance and stop being so silly.

Why did boys have to be some complicated sometimes? Tadhg was her bestie since they were three years old, he was always included in everything she did. She just didn't understand. And now, she didn't even feel like dancing at all.

Violet was feeling more and more uncomfortable, feeling like she needed to do something pretty soon, when she heard Ivy calling her. Thank goodness! Dancing (or trying to) in the vicinity of someone else was loads better than attempting it on your own.

Violet edged over to where Ivy was moving on the floor, carefully avoiding getting struck by the flying hair of one of the new Hufflepuffs. She was mortified to confess to anyone that she really did not know how to dance. She checked out what Ivy was doing out of the corner of her eye and tried to copy it. Because when in doubt, find someone who's competent in a skill and do what they do.

Uncle Moose 05-19-2021 12:49 AM

Professor Gunter slowed down on his own dance moves feeling pretty confident now. He observed as a majority of the students got onto the dance floor and got right to dancing. A smile escaped his lips. Of course there were plenty of really interesting dances going on as well. The Robot, some Mirror Dance performance piece, What he could only assume were ballet techniques, Groups dancing together. All this interaction was making the grown man all giddy with joy.

But it was time to move forward. There was still much to cover and it might be good to get a few of the students back on track. With Scarlett whippping her hair into unsuspecting faces, and don't think he wasn't watching you Upsteads. Veering off course from the perimeter of the dance floor toward the covered object. "All right everyone. Let's settle it down now." He turned toward the self playing instruments and each of them began to quiet down until it was completely quiet again. "You can all plop a squat right where you are. Catch your breath. Anyone who walked or stretched you can take a seat on the dance floor too." That means both of you Pax and Nemesis, come right on back.

"Those were some really some Brilliant moves. Everyone hopefully feels much more mobile and loose." He took a seat at the edge of the stage. Surely this would be the part where they all wished they could have just kept dancing. "I'll need you all to listen carefully. For everything to piece together I'll give a abridged version on the Birth of Sleipnir." Professor Gunter always get very focused whenever he got into the Myths that came from the Vikings.

"A Giant disguised as a simple craftsman came to Asgard when it was still young. He brought with him his own horse and made an offer to the Gods. He would build them a massive wall around their city that would grant them protection from the Frost Giants in three seasons. In return for his services he would wed their Goddess Freya, and be given the Sun and the Moon." Those were some CRAZY demands! "The gods would only agree to this if he could build this wall in one season, not three. And the Giant in disguise agreed. Talk about confidence. "The trickster god, Loki had convinced the gods that this man could not build the wall in one season so Freya was safe, as was the sun and the moon. Unfortunately the man was building the wall and much faster than they had anticipated. It was not the man who was making this possible, but his faithful steed, Svadifari. The stallion had tons of Horse Power." Horse POWER! Get it?! "Furious with Loki, and concerned with giving up so much for the Wall being built at a much faster pace than they had hoped. They forced the Trickster to stop the wall from being finished. So Loki shapeshifted himself into a Mare and at night went to where the Giant and his stallion were working." Get ready this next part was gonna be weird! "Loki as the Mare trotted out toward the two of them. This mare was a beautiful creature. Easily distracting Svadifari. Who abandoned his work and ran off with with Mare. Leaving just the Giant to work on the wall. In the end, the Man could not complete the wall in time. Even worse he was discovered to be a Frost Giant. With this Thor with his mighty hammer felled the Giant swiftly. Loki still as a Mare returned, but now he was pregnant with a foal." Yeah told it was weird. "Loki as the Mare then gave birth to a magnificent horse. Grey in color and with eight legs. Loki gifted the horse to the All-Father Odin. Sleipnir would be the greatest Horse among all other horses. Fastest thanks to his eight legs, and stronger than even his father Svadifari."

Okay maybe not so abridged as he thought. He got caught in the story.

"It's important to understand how swift and powerful Sleipnir was for Odin. What else can you tell me about his noble steed? Is there a relationship the horse has to Ancient Runes? Can anyone figure out why exactly I had you all dance like crazy?"

Chelliephone 05-19-2021 02:13 AM

He did not ever really get himself to the level of comfort where he was dancing as openly as his peers, but Evan was enjoying watching all of their moves. Some of them he was jealous of how clearly they were able to just.. have fun and not worry about what other people thought. And then others had such large groups of friends he felt a pang at that too. He was quite glad to see the large group of first years included his sister though - which he would have not expected anything less, but it was still good to see.

And despite his not dancing, his body was actually feeling pretty relaxed with all the stretching and he was glad that they'd done some movement so they could better focus on the lesson ahead. When Professor Gunter called the dancing off, and told them to sit where they were - err, well what Evan assumed what he said meant anyways - he couldn't resist grabbing his notebook and a pen first so he could take some notes.

Crossing his legs and getting comfortable, he listened to the norse tale, not at all familiar. The tale was... odd and to be perfectly frank, Evan had no idea what they were supposed to be getting from it or where the tie in was for everything yet. So far the only thing he could gather was that attraction was distracting... so maybe avoid that? As for why they had to dance.. he was going to assume it was not to do with trying to imagine what it would be like with 8 legs like the mentioned horse. But he still figured he'd offer an answer, so Evan raised his hand and waited to be called upon. He had no answer for the first two questions, much more interested to hear what his peers would say, but he could guess for the last. "Did we dance or move before so that we could concentrate on a complicated lesson?"

Because Runes was complicated.

Watson 05-19-2021 02:39 AM

Lisa pouted when Professor Gunter called them back to the lesson.

Nononononononononooooooooooo! :whaa: Couldnt they keep dancing? Couldnt that be the WHOLE ENTIRE LESSON? She was just getting into the groove and learning all the awesome dance moves from V. As they were called all together, Lisa made her way over to sit next to her brother. She leaned against him and glanced up, offering him a toothy grin, before listening to the lesson at hand.

As Gunter started telling the LOOOOOOONG and non-abridged version of the Norse myth, Lisa spent the whole time imagining the event with the Marvel Thor actors. She giggled quietly as she imagined the fight scene and even wondered if the Hulk or Rocket the Raccoon had gotten involved in this whacky and wild adventure. Hehe. She loved it. She’d have to ask the Professor after class when Marvel was going to do THIS story as a one off film. That being said, they’d have to cast new actors cause the last film was in the late 2010s or something. Almost 90 years ago.... WOW! The cinematic film still had aged well.

Swift and powerful? Hmmmmm? She paused. Now who would win in a battle Shadowfax or Sleipnir? She wasn’t entirely sure but she thought it’d be a tie. “Wasn’t Sleipnir the Lord of Horses? Like Shadowfax from Lord of the Rings....” She HAD read all those books over the summer with the help of her parents. “Did he have runes carved into his hooves that made him fast? Or his bridle? Or saddle?

LilFox06 05-19-2021 03:07 AM

Misa actually wasn't sure why a mythology lesson was involved with an ancient runes class. Of course, runes could be used for anything from written language to divination. So maybe there was a reason for this?

She raised her hands. "Like most symbolic languages, runes have meanings." she said. "One of them must represent horses or something?"

ArianaBlack 05-19-2021 03:40 AM

NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo!

They were stopping? ALREADY?!? But they had only JUST started dancing, Mr. Gunter! This wasn’t fair! Kinsay had reaaaaaally been hoping that their professor would let them continue like this for the whole hour (despite knowing how unlikely this would be). She made sure to properly pout so he’d know how disappointed she was. Maybe he’d even feel bad and let them start dancing again?

Once again, unlikely, but still worth a try.

So much pouting was happening. So much.

Despite her disappointment, however, she did sit down, only pausing to give Cece a quick hug before doing so. These things were important. Also important? Paying attention. She tried her very best to do just that. It was always hard to sit still. ESPECIALLY when there were long stories involved. Cooper would love this, she was sure of it. But Kinsay? Every time she heard stories like these, they just made her real sleepy. Even when she tried her very best to stay awake! They still made her sleepy.

So if she was yawning, it had absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Gunter's confusing story. It was just a Kinsay thing. Hopefully he wouldn’t take offense to it because she really was trying her very best. Despite this, her eyelids kept drooping down. Long stories + limited sleep at night = the sleepiest Kinz. In attempt to keep herself engaged, the Gryffindor raised her hand when she sensed there was a pause in the story. She hadn't come up with an answer to the questions posed, but she did have a question of her own (as per usual). There was something about the story (one of the only parts she had really processed before her brain went all tired on her) that didn't make any sense! ”Professor Gunter? Would they really give him the sun and the moon? Or were they just lying so he'd build the wall for them?” Because Kinsay was very skeptical. Sometimes adults lied just to get you to do what they wanted. So skeptical.

sweetpinkpixie 05-19-2021 05:32 AM

You know what showed a lack of empathy, DANIEL YOON?! Laughing at someone in pain and thinking it was AMAZING.

Though Atlas could not hear the laughter over the music, so at least there was that.

He also really couldn't pay attention to much else once Quinn had his hand on the Gryffindor's cheek. Eyes watering and his right one just baaaaaaaarely able to squint open, Atlas was sure he was okay but also...not okay in that his vision was a little impaired presently. "Just...stings...a lot...is all." He wasn't surprised, but also was, that Quinn was then scolding the Hufflepuff tornado...though he didn't really think it was necessary. It had just been an accident and probably spared Atlas the embarrassment of stepping on someone's foot while trying to dance. Still squinting through that one eye and his eye watering like crazy, it was just the eye's defense mechanism to flush out containments, Atlas turned his attention towards Tadhg and nodded. "Yeah...I'm fine..." He also offered Dahlia and Apollo small smiles since they were close by proxy...and then that budding hormones induced drama.

Girls were dangerous, clearly.

Knocked entirely off whatever rhythm it was he had pretended to find just now, Atlas was relieved when Professor Gunter moved things along and didn't bring further attention to the fact that he had been smacked in the face by hair. Plopping himself down and stretching his legs out in front of him, they ached a little these days due to growing pains, Atlas glanced up at Quinn hoping he would just...plop himself down here as well, or else things would be really awkward.

His ears perked up a little as dance time turned into story time and the Gryffindor actually knew a couple of these names (namely Loki)...but soon Atlas was zoning out and looking around at all at all the lights. They were distracting and his mind found itself trying to make constellations out of the lights. Sleipnir was a horse...with entirely too many legs...maybe he could find that kind of shape in the lights...

Zoning out, and his eye still squinty squint, Atlas kind of lost himself in his scavenger hunt and starting picking his nose...and the majority of what the professor was saying zipped in one ear and right out the other. He came to around the time that some of his classmates were answering...whatever question, or questions, had been asked. That one older Ravenclaw, Misa...he thought he name might be, steered him close to the right course and suddenly his hand SHOT up.

"Ehwaz!" Runes were like constellations in a way, painting an abstract picture of something, and this one he remembered being two horses. Like twins. It was the rune for him and Aries, basically. "That's the...uh...rune she is thinking about."

And he pointed to the Ravenclaw just to make sure Professor Gunter knew what he meant. He probably should stop pointing at people.

Maybe tomorrow.

TakemetotheBurrow 05-19-2021 11:40 AM

Cece understood Kiz's pouting and she squeezed her some when the younger girl came in for a hug. They could have their own dance party later, did she know? Cece was always down for something like that and made a mental note to extend the invitation later as she sat down beside the younger Gryffindor and tried to pay attention to the tale Oakey Professor Gunter was now telling.

And boy was it a TALE.

It was pretty interesting and she'd read about runes being carved into all sorts of things to increase their abilities or protect them, so it made sense that runes might've been carved into the hooves of THIS mythic horse. As for the dancing, "Maybe you wanted to show us that our dancing skills, or even endurance skills, could be made even better with certain runes." And maybe that meant there was more dancing in their future, hm? Cece was sure Kiz would be excited about that.

OOC: Answer one or all three of the Questions Professor Gunter posed to your students. Don't worry about answering correctly. Respond with how best you believe your character might. Class will press on tomorrow about 7PM EST.

As she heard the music begin to stop, Aibhi sat down and caught her breath and chuckled to herself with just how much fun she just had and as she is catching her breath, she pulls her hair up in a messy bun once again listening to Gunter. And now it was time for the lesson to begin...with a good old myth. The entire story was intriguing to her. Loki turning himself into a Mare, giving birth to a horse with 8 legs...just fascinating. Once the story was finished, she listened to Gunter's questions and she thought about the story trying to think how this story was pertaining to us dancing in the beginning of the class. Raising her hand, Aibhi answers as best as she can,

"Odin would ride Sleipnir into the land of the dead, or Hel, if I'm not mistaken. It would be such a fast horse, that it would almost look like its almost sliding through the air. I think that maybe you made us dance in the beginning of class because horses generally are considered an athletic species with large hearts and lungs for their size, but some breeds have greater stamina than others...and with those 8 legs I can't imagine Sleipnir being a low stamina horse. When we were dancing, we were using our stamina to the best of our capabilities and then once the music ended, a lot of us felt like we tired and exhausted. When it comes to runes...they have certain abilities to grant you...boosts in a way??" Runes was never really her strong suit but she tried as best as she could.

FearlessLeader19 05-19-2021 01:44 PM

Claudine didn’t feel so silly dancing out and about now that she had two of the best partners. In fact, it was flattering that Ashley happened to be copying her moves. Sort of… because Good Merlin! Was that how Claudine actually looked with those moves? She would have hidden herself in shame if this activity wasn’t beginning to be fun. Then her gaze trailed to Heath who looked comical but in a good way. She grinned as she watched the other two, not bothering with anyone else in the room. But what on Earth did this have to do with Ancient Runes?

Thank Merlin they could stop now though! Claudine wasn’t sure how much longer her skills would last out here. Or her bravery would fade. So, the sixth year put herself down on the ground, hugging her knees to her chest.

Come again, Professor? An abridged version of what? Whatever. The start of the story sounded interesting. And weird. Very, very weird. Anyway.

There was nothing that Claudine could contribute to this lesson at present and so she sat silently. The younger students seemed to have ideas though, especially Lisa whom Claudine knew was obsessed with Muggle things like Lord of the Rings.

Dumblydor 05-19-2021 06:41 PM

Alfred was shaking with internal laughter when Daniel hurt himself trying to copy him. "Are you okay?" The question was asked within a fit of giggles. He turned away to stop laughing. It took about a minute for it to pass, and he turned back around and repeated the question, this time with a serious expression. "Seriously, are you okay?" It looked quite painful.

Alfred was thankful when the dancing ended and the actual lesson began. Sitting down, he listened to the story, but Gunter probably lost him at 'Freya'. One, it was boring and two, it sounded too complicated anyway. He decided to sit their in silence and act like he was listening when he definitely was not.

astrocat 05-19-2021 07:40 PM

Ash had heard this story before. That didn't make it make sense tho. Surely the whole 'ancient runes' thing would be easier if the story didn't make her brain hurt. "I guess I agree with whoever said something about horse runes. I don't know whether the rune is based on that horse specifically though. But um, how did that guy have horse kids if he wasn't a horse? And um... why did it have eight legs? And isn't it cheating to distract that guy's horse? It kinda seems like the gods were salty. I agree with Kinsay on this." They lost fair and square. There were more important parts of this story than ancient runes. Like the trickster-god-having-eight-legged-horse-kids part.

Emzily 05-19-2021 08:24 PM

Remy smiled as another joined their dance troupe and nodded to confirm it was okay with her. The coolest first years in school? She switched up her robot moves for some disco pointing. Dad dancing was the only dancing she was really good at, but it was more fun that way. Remy laughed along with her friends, still giggling when the professor asked them to stop dancing.

Awh, she thought the whole lesson would be about dancing. Remy sat down beside her friends and did her best to listen to what he was talking about. Because it was a lot.

She really had no idea about any answers to the questions asked. Ancient Runes was not her strong suit, and neither was Norse mythology. Remy stayed silent and twiddled with her fingers in her lap.

NiallNIP 05-19-2021 10:01 PM

Quinn gave a small side frown at Atlas... he hoped his eye really would be fine, but there wasn't much he could really do right now... "Alright, then." He gave a smile to Lia, Tadhg and Apollo as well. And then there was a tiff... honestly, Quinn didn't realize why Tadhg didn't want all three of them to just dance together... but it wasn't his business, so he wouldn't put himself in the middle of it.

When Professor Gunter told them to sit, Quinn wasn't sure if Atlas wanted to sit next to him for the whole of class. He noticed Atlas glance up at him, and he knew he couldn't just... move, so.... after a moments' hesitation, he plopped himself down next to Atlas. He also wasn't paying much attention to the story as it was told because his brain was swimming with Is this alright? Does Atlas want me to sit here, or was that glance meant to say Okay, that's it, you can go now? I still don't know what he's feeling, but he came over to me for the dance activity, so it can't be too bad, right? And then Quinn reminded himself—keep it simple. Simple. Let it be simple. He relaxed a bit and let out a quiet exhale. He hadn't even noticed that his muscles were so tight while he was sitting there... he relaxed his shoulders and sunk down into his sit a little more. Everything was fine.

However, he had almost no idea how to answer the questions presented to him because he was paying almost no attention to the story. He jumped a bit as Atlas's hand shot up and he called out an answer. He was... certainly excited. But if there was a rune to represent horses... "Well..." Quinn started, adding on to Atlas and Misa, "...if Ehwaz represents horses, maybe that ties into movement? Since, y'know, people sometimes use horses to get around, and movement would relate to dancing, hence the activity. But, uh... that might be wrong." Quinn answered, biting the inside of his lip, looking down.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-19-2021 10:11 PM

Heath usually hated dancing, but he found that, to his own surprise, when he focused on his friends, he didn't fear the embarrassment. Despite his newfound confidence, he was glad when the impromptu dance party ended. He sat down on the floor next to Claudine, turning his full attention to the professor as he spoke. He kept waiting for everything to piece together, but the more he heard, the more confused he became. Asgard? Gods? Giants? Horses? He had no idea how any of it related to dancing or Ancient Runes!

The only thing he could figure was maybe there was no reason that the professor asked them to dance. Maybe he'd tricked the students like Loki tricked the horse in the story... distract them with something meant to be fun to keep them from getting more important work done. But that probably wasn't true. Merlin, he hoped that wasn't true! He'd had enough of getting tricked by adults, thanks.

Heath may have mustered the confidence to dance, but that confidence didn't extend to offering wrong answers. At a loss, he kept quiet for now.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 05-19-2021 11:48 PM

Ivy grinned when Violet finally joined in on the dancing, but then it wasn't long before that part of the lesson was being wrapped up and they were moving on.

Moving on to a story from Norse mythology in fact. One that she was certain she'd heard before from Cooper, but she still sat down and tried to pay attention anyway. She'd heard a lot of mythology stories from him over the years, so she was a bit fuzzy on the details of this particular one.

As for what it had to do with the dancing from before, she thought the answers some of her classmates had given were pretty good. Something to do with runes enhancing or otherwise helping with movement seemed likely. The professor had said the horse was swift, after all. Maybe they'd be able to use runes to make them move really fast too.

So she had no answer of her own for now, just sitting quietly and listening to the others.

All of the sudden the dancing was OVER, and V pouted at her little gal!group. Lisa, Remy, and Ollie. She wasn't even paying a SINGLE LICK of attention to anything Lisa said but just viiiiiibed with the music until it ended, and she crossed her arms over her chest.

And immediately she was lost. There was a reason she didn't like Ancient Runes. Because...well, it was hard for V, and she didn't like when things were hard for her.

The story was long, V lost interest and started counting the strands of hair on Daniel Yoon's head that were out of place, and soon he was asking them questions about things she hadn't kept up with and hadn't done the reading on. So she remained quiet. Best not to look like a complete fool.

"Maybe you had us dance because you're trying to start a dance crew and were trying to recruit us. I know that doesn't have to do with runes, but that's the only guess I have," she said as shruuuuuugged.

Professor Gunter tilted his head down and gave it a gentle shake. "No, that's not why we danced, Evan. The dancing ties into the lesson itself but try to pinpoint a specific reason and not just the lesson itself."

Or saddle?

It took Professor Gunter a moment to understand who Lisa was talking about. Of course he had read Lord of the Rings, but often those names escaped him. Ironic as he could recite the tale of Sigurd to it's slightest detail. "Being Odin's horse certainly would make him par-excellence." As for what Lisa said next. "That could be likely. Sleipnir came into being in the beginning. Possibly before Odin discovered the Runes. Perhaps the All-Father carved runes onto Sleipnir's horseshoes, or saddle after he had learned about Runes."

She raised her hands. "Like most symbolic languages, runes have meanings." she said. "One of them must represent horses or something?"

"You're on the right track, Misa." He gave her nod and smile. "There is a Rune that represents horses."

"I had thought this myself, Kinsay. They were giving up a lot for a massive wall to protect them." He crosses his legs up on the stage and gave her his full attention. "The Asgardian gods did not believe the man could actually do as he said in one season. So they felt the Sun and Moon, and Freya were safe. Frost Giants were also very dangerous and deadly. The need for this wall outweighed the risk in their eyes. Also keep in mind, Loki is very charismatic. He reassured the gods the man was on the up-and-up and the deal they were making was a good one. Perhaps he knew the man was really a Frost Giant and wanted to see the chaos unfold."

That Loki was a tricky fella.

It hadn't occurred to Oakey until just now when the spinning white lights flashed into his face again. He shook his head a moment to fight off the sudden blindness.
WHOOPS. Well he was absolutely impressed with how well the students managed to listen to the Nordic Myth will all the distracting lights flashing about. Right Anyways. Professor Gunter took it upon himself to quickly turned all blue and magenta party lights into normal basic boring lights. And the spinning starry lights stopped in their place.

Eh...Wha??...Who said? Oh there! The Weird Flamsteed Boy!! "YES! BRILLIANT YES! That is the Rune Misa was speaking about!!"

Sweet Flamsteeds!!

"Ehwaz is the Rune that represents Horses." He nodded encouragingly at Atlas.
Hold onto that thought!

"Wonderfully thought out, Cecelia." He smiled toward his niece. "Runes can most certainly help bolster your endurance, they can even help you move a little easier."
One of the runes tattooed on his right hand was doing that for him as they spoke.

"Some brilliant additions to Sleipnir, Aibhilinn. Odin rode him into Hel, and even during the battle of Ragnarok. And Sleipnir is often called the Slippery One. So that he looked like he slid through the sky is not unheard of."

He nodded to her next answer. "You've close, Aibhilinn. Very good."

The Quiet types. At least Claudine looked like she was listening and interested in the story being told and was paying attention to the other students answers.

Professor Gunter noticed that Alfred had gone quiet too...Hope he was paying full attention to the answers being given by his peers.

I agree with Kinsay on this." They lost fair and square. There were more important parts of this story than ancient runes. Like the trickster-god-having-eight-legged-horse-kids part.

Glad that she agreed on the Horse meaning to the Rune. It meant she was at least listening to the others. "Don't let the absurdities of the Myth throw you for a loop, Ashley. Many stories all have very strange things that happen within them. How could being on Earth grant Superman heat vision? The Speed Force makes no sense. Even now stories of superheroes written by the muggles go beyond what Norse Mythology touched on centuries before. It would be a good discussion to have with Professor Schmoe." He wasn't teaching Muggle Studies after all.

He wasn't disagreeing with her or Kinsay. Mythical Gods were Saaaalty.

It shocked Professor Gunter to see Robot Dance Girl silent and twiddling her thumbs. Make sure to keep up with the other students. There was much more to go over.

Alas. You can't win everyone over, but it seemed as though he got Heath to listen and think on the tale. Chalk that into the win column Gunter. You got him.

Another deep listener. Oakey felt very confident that Ivy would well in today's class.

MERLINS UNDERPANTS! Professor Gunter looked at Quinn for a moment of two as the young Ravenclaw gave his answer. He shot up from sitting instantly and clapped his hands loudly once then followed it with a thumbs up jabbed directly toward the boy. "Excellent! Brilliant! Wonderful! You took answers from both Misa, and Atlas and came to the perfect conclusion Quinn." He hopped down from the stage once more. This time without any trouble. He paced around the students with a bit of a skip in his step. "Sleipnir, the dancing, it all comes down to ease of movement and Ehwaz is the Rune that represents this."

"Ehwaz, like many of the other runes can help enhance something. Aibhilinn, and Cecelia both made mention of this in their answers. Imagine dancing about in uncomfortable shoes. Then placing on a pair of much more comfortable ones. It's no different from placing a rune on something to make it perform a task just a little bit better than it normally should."

He took a brief moment from his semi-prancing to trace some fiery lines in the air. forming the Rune Ehwaz with the flagrate spell. Then waited for the fiery rune to dissipate in the air.

What else can we attribute Ehwaz with? Tell me all you know about this particular Rune. If you need to you can go ahead and get your Textbooks out of your bags and look for an answer." He pointed to their bags that he had asked them to leave just on the edge of the dance floor.

Quinn jumped a bit at Professor Gunter's exclamation. Wait... he... he was right? He wasn't expecting that—honestly, he thought his answer was a bit of a reach in terms of logic. He reddened a bit at the Professor's praise, but smiled. It made him happy when he did good. He also watched with great intrigue as the Professor drew the rune in midair... very fun!

However.... he still knew virtually nothing else about this rune, frankly. He pulled out his rune textbook and flipped around for any information he could find. He used a finger to skim through some of the sentences. "Er... it also says..." Quinn reddened more as he read. He closed the textbook. "Um... i-it says the rune can also benefit... romantic partnerships." He twiddled his thumbs.

Ollie was actually enjoying dancing with the girls. She didn't understand why they were dancing but still, it was fun! But, as with all good things, the dancing had come to an end. Not that it really upset Ollie, she was ready to return class to the regularly scheduled program. She plopped herself next to the girls she was dancing with and opened her mind to the lesson, Professor Gunter was giving.

After she listened to V's answer, she gave a laugh. V was funny, though it was clear she didn't want to be in class anymore. Ollie couldn't blame her, if the class was about something that Ollie had no interest in, she wouldn't want to be there either. She decided not to answer this question since she wasn't 100% sure of the answer.

For this next question, Ollie wouldn't need her textbook. Her hand shot to the air as fast as it could, and her mouth opened just as fast. "That's the rune 'Ehwaz', meaning horse. It is the rune of teamwork and trust." She realized she had ended up talking over another student, Quinn, and quickly apologized. "Sorry" giving him and the professor a soft smile.

Altas felt like he was on to something, a pattern in the lights to make a shape when...BAM. The lights were gone and back to normal, which left the Gryffindor with a kind of glazed over expression as though slowly waking up from a Daydream Charm.

Uh.

He was a little more present when Professor Gunter praised his answer (yes, more of that please) and he felt a little tug of pride when Quinn built off it and ALSO got praise. Just went to show the Ravenclaw that he DID belong here, you know? Something that a lot of muggleborns had been struggling with considering the messages that had been thrust upon them all last term. Messages that...he hadn't really fought against.

At all.

Hello guilt, could do without you rearing your hideous head today.

Anyway, Ehwaz and horses. Ding dong, score one point for this Flamsteed and thank you, professor, for reiterating the obvious that he was brilliant.

Atlas was about to ask about two left feet, his shoes were plenty comfortable, but got distracted again when the drawing of the rune appeared on the board. Kind of cruel that it looked like an 'M' but had the phonetics of "i" as in "pride". Like...WHO did THAT?

He supposed he could share THAT as what else he knew about the rune, now that he was coming back to the present. At least he wouldn't be repeating the horse definition again (that first year Slytherin had probably gotten distracted like he had). Quinn's answer brought him back to what he had been thinking about earlier...sans romantic bonds and more...twin bonds. Partnerships in general.

Distracted again. This was becoming a pattern.

"It's associated with Capricorn," he tossed out there. Studying astrology had been a hobby of he and Aries just to push their dad's buttons. "So if you're one of those, you're also born under the influence of this rune. Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler were." Just for some historical examples. "And..." to kind of piggyback off Quinn a little. "Ehwaz looks like two Laguz runes tacked on together in a mirror image, to that's probably where the partnership and intersection comes in."

astrocat 05-20-2021 11:54 AM

Ash was soooo proud. Quinn, her friend (probably) Quinn, was getting praise from the teacher. She was sooo proud that she even smiled. She still thought the story was more important that the rune though. Even if they suspended disbelief, that guy who was building totally should have won. But whatever. "It represents moving, progress, and, um, teamwork. So maybe moving forward as a team. Is that literal or figurative, or can it be both?" Were they going to have to talk about last year? It kinda sounded like they did. In coded language, maybe. Ash hoped they didn't.

V’s answer made Lisa chuckle because she couldn’t see Professor Gunter starting a dance troupe but then again maybe the man was a secret dance machine and no one knew about it? :shifty: She had been wrong about Professor Schmoe being a dark wizard... the theory had been somewhat debunked.

As Professor Gunter began to speak about Ehwaz, she drew the rune in her notebook and then wrote how it as pronounced so that she’d get it correctly. EH-WAS. Gotcha....

She blushed when he asked the question as she was not sure how to answer but when he said that they could look in the textbook, she was more than happy to consult Professor Ancient Runes Book. She didn’t know much about the rune itself so she fished for her textbook and began flipping through it to find the answer.

It’s a rune of harmony and teamwork!

Say... maybe a certain female Slytherin and a male Hufflepuff could benefit from this rune.....?

What else can we attribute Ehwaz with? Tell me all you know about this particular Rune. If you need to you can go ahead and get your Textbooks out of your bags and look for an answer." He pointed to their bags that he had asked them to leave just on the edge of the dance floor.

OOC: Gonna go through this Question a bit quicker so we can jump right to the Main Activity tomorrow as well. Expect the next portion of the class to move along at about 4pm EST on May 20th. [/QUOTE]

Smiling softly she nods, "Thank you, Professor. As she listened to the other answers, she takes some mental notes of the other answers to remember. As she looks at the rune of "Ehwaz" she listened to his question and thought for a moment as to what else can this rune mean. She raised her hand then lowered it, "Ehwaz can sometimes represent a swift steed and divine twins. Its shape is sometimes can look like two horses heads or like a pair of horses looking at each other. Ehwaz holds within it that strange dream-like state where boundaries kinda blur and time runs both fast and slow and anything is possible. Ehwaz can also represent journeys, distant places and events which have not occurred yet."

Dia didn't really need her textbook for the next question, thank you. After all, Ancient Runes had been one of her best subjects at Durmstrang. Plus, they had been way ahead of this at her former school, too. So, this was basically review for the now-Slytherin.

"Besides being associated with Sleipnir, Ehwaz is also associated with the twin Norse gods Freya and Frey. Also, sometimes people wear the rune as a talisman to help them communicate with others more clearly." Not her, specifically, just people in general.

Wasn’t Gunter the excited one?

Claudine really hoped the man wouldn’t injure himself in all that excitement. The lesson was still in its early stages and Merlin knew if it was still possible for the man to have an injury. Anyway. She continued paying attention because the concept of the Ehwaz rune was easy to follow along to given the vivid example that had just been used.

Ancient Runes not being a subject that she was familiar with, the sixth year needed her textbook. Once retrieved from her bag, she flipped it open to the appropriate page. “In the reversed form, Ehwaz represents a dead end.” Claudine lowered her hand. “One example might be if you’ve set a goal, at some point it would seem that no matter how you try to meet that goal, you can’t.

Cecelia decided she liked this rune for several reasons. 1. It had to do with ease of movement, and for someone who moved as much as Cece, that was super useful. 2. It had to do with teamwork. Cece played quidditch, so she was down for anything that represented that. 3. It'd be super easy to draw in her notes. Another win for her and for Ehwaz.

"I could see how Ehwaz translates to horse and how it has to do with trust. If I'm getting on an animal that big, I want to make sure I trust it fully, y'know? She nodded solemnly and then propped her chin on her hand. It was nice when symbols made sense like this. It helped her to remember them better.

It was always good to offer answers to at least really solidify what type of Professor's one was dealing with. With the Headmaster, Evan was realizing any answer was better than none. Wanted to make sure they were thinking or whatever. Though really it seemed rather a test for their common sense. Professor Gunter it seemed better to wait til had a really solid answer. Which... he wasn't sure how much he would have to contribute that way with such an advanced subject but maybe that just meant reading ahead in Runes would be added to his extracurriculars list.

He was thoroughly impressed with the other students his age and younger who had good answers to the question, including his younger sister who he smiled proudly at as she sat with him.

Listening more intently as more answers were given, taking the time to draw the rune and adding as much of the information offered to his notes making it as clear and concise as possible. He opened his textbook to the mentioned Rune, not seeing much he could add that wasn't at least touched on by his peers. So instead, he just focused on adding the notes of things he did not see in the text but that sounded like good information to have, such as Claudine's answer for the reversed form and the younger Gryffindor. Evan hadn't even know you could be born under a rune. Which.. apparently as a Capricorn this was his.

Gaaaah, these questions were hard. Remy had done a little bit of reading about a few runes and their attributes, but they were a little hazy. Immediately, she knew that Ehwaz was translated to horse, but that had already been clarified. She didn't want to open her textbook now and read from the page, there'd be no point in answering if she had done that.

She thought for a moment about her answer before raising her hand.

"Isn't friendship, and trust to do with Ehwaz?" Maybe even loyalty. Horses were very loyal creatures, weren't they? Remy opened her mouth to say more, but nope, nothing else was coming. That's all she had to say, but was pleased she'd said something this time.

Felixir 05-20-2021 06:41 PM

If Nem were the type to argue and cause problems for no reason, they might have resisted the instruction to come back, on the grounds of phrasing. Yes, they could go and sit on the dance floor, thank you for pointing that out, but they weren't feeling it right now.

They did though, impeccably behaved student that they were. Taking up a space right on the very edge of the dance floor, Nem sat, and within moments had checked out and slipped into their own thoughts while story time got underway. Still on the subject of Ancient Runes, more or less, though it didn't take long before Nem was more focused on deciding if they ought to find some hefty slab of rock, for prototype reasons, or just go all in right away with some kind of metal. Fiddling with one while working on procuring the other couldn't hurt.

Speaking of fiddling with things, Nem was back to playing around with some of the little pieces of metal they'd taken to carrying around with them, but they were listening too. At least, they were now. "Ehwaz can be used..." they said aloud, not raising a hand or their eyes, instead looking down towards their lap at the 'window' they'd formed with their thumbs and index fingers, inside which the metal matchsticks had rearranged themselves into a formation much like the ehwaz rune. "... for anything where you might need some kind of forward motion. For example, it can help send a spell, and also give it more of a kick. An invoked ehwaz rune can work like a boost, like Aibhilinn said; runes are an energy source, and one of the magical uses of ehwaz is straightforward power."

For the record, that was the whole appeal of Ancient Runes, what they could do, how they could be used, so they were sticking with that line of thought for now. None of this representation and symbolism stuff, which Nem had learnt, but had little interest in.

Story time really wasn't Noah's thing (more of Catherine's vibe actually), and it was safe to say that he wasn't as engrossed as he'd hoped when it came down to it. But of course it was needed since they had younger students around who were just starting, so he'd just have to sit the first round out, and chime in when he's actually got something to say.

Sitting on the floor with his hands behind him, Noah gave the flaming Ehwaz a good look as he listened to what his classmates had to say about it. It was interesting to note that Ehwaz was assigned to the sign Capricorn, thanks to little Flamsteed the younger. It meant that Ehwaz was naturally his and Catherine's rune. Funny how it also represented twins, because they are a set-- albeit being very different from each other. Noah was born at the closing, while Catherine was born at the beginning.

Twins with very different worlds on the same journey. And no matter how much he wanted to be independent of Catherine, he simply couldn't. "Ehwaz is not only attributed to fellowship but guardianship as well, professor. Much like moving from one world to another-- it can offer an extra protection while in movement."

"Um... i-it says the rune can also benefit... romantic partnerships." He twiddled his thumbs.

There was no shame in searching for the best answer. Just make sure it's in your own words. "That it can, Quinn." He stopped his pacing and faced the class. "We're not going to focus on the romantic aspect of Ehwaz though." That would be a tough class to teach a bunch of teenagers. "Partnership is very important for this rune."

It is the rune of teamwork and trust." She realized she had ended up talking over another student, Quinn, and quickly apologized. "Sorry" giving him and the professor a soft smile.

She was so quick to answer. But had she been paying attention? "Thank you Olive. We already established that Ehwaz means Horse." Had she heard his tale about Sleipnir? That story wasn't boring. It was actually one of the many myths that were the most intriguing to hear in his opinion. "Teamwork, and trust also play a big part in Ehwaz. You might say that is why Ehwaz works well for romantic partnerships. As Quinn answered."

"An interesting point to build off from there, Atlas. Both Kepler and Newton made major discoveries in science that involved motion of some kind." Atlas was on the top of his game today. So many of the students were. "Gravity and the three laws Planetary Motion." Hey! Look!! Airey's lessons were paying off for him still!

But let's not talk about Gravity. That's a painful subject for Professor Gunter.

"It represents moving, progress, and, um, teamwork. So maybe moving forward as a team. Is that literal or figurative, or can it be both?" Were they going to have to talk about last year? It kinda sounded like they did. In coded language, maybe. Ash hoped they didn't.

"I think you'll find it to be very literal. Remember that Runes will grant magical enhancement to all manner of things." He smiled to the Ravenclaw. "Excellent answer, and good follow up question."

It’s a rune of harmony and teamwork!

Say... maybe a certain female Slytherin and a male Hufflepuff could benefit from this rune.....?

Seems were are hitting a Trend here. "Very good Lisa. Harmony....hmmm" He paused a moment. "Perhaps Ehwaz placed on these instruments could make them harmonize better." Maybe Ehwaz is in fact on the instruments already.

He'll never tell.

What's that you got there Nemesis? Oakey was glad that he had contributed to the topic, but it would help if they had looked toward him to join this conversation. Perhaps Nemesis could benefit from Ehwaz enhancing their communication. "Make sure to look toward me when answering, Nemesis." He wasn't positive what was so distracting in their hands at the moment but it wasn't pulling his full attention away from the class. And their answer was a very good one too.
"None-the-Less that is a brilliant addition to Aibhilinn's response. A good example would be an Auror who needs to apprehend a dangerous target without getting dangerously close to them." Straight forward is in fact a movement after all.

Some of the other answers seemed to have put Noah into deep thought. "Very astute, Noah. Perhaps Ehwaz would work well with Algiz in this matter to really boost it's protective capabilities in unison. It is a perfect rune to use to ensure safe travel."

"Excellent Answers everyone! It seems we found that out that Ehwaz is also not only the Rune for Movement, and Horses. It can enhance your magic, as Nemesis mentioned. It could also improve communication as Lydia noted, and it is the Rune for Partnership. What we're going to do next is to incorporate all of these into our activity for today."

With that Professor Gunter turned his attention to the the Large covered object. The light was hitting it perfectly from the windows in the classroom.

With a swish of his wand the cover vanished and he moved it carefully to the front of the classroom just in front of the stage. A rather intricate looking wooden racetrack stood before them. Sitting atop the track were six different little pinewood derby cars.

"Today we will all try to work together to have these little cars make it to the Finish Line." He picked up the the small silver car in his hand, the one he dubbed Silver Chariot. "Etched into each of the wooden cars is the Ehwaz rune." He turned the car upside down to show the rune to the students. "Modified Gandrs you might say. If you recall from my earlier lesson the Gandr is the magic wand for which runes are etched onto. So these little Race Cars will act as those for this activity."

"I will need you each to partner up. Three maximum for each pairing. Select one of the six Gandr Wand Cars and take them to the starting line at the top of the stage. From there you will recite the Galdr for Ehwaz while holding the car in your hands. The Galdr is the magical incantation you'll need to empower the Gandr for the Rune on it to work." Once more this was a part of an earlier lesson last month.

Professor Gunter went back to the top of the stage and held Silver Chariot close to his chest as he recited it's Galdr. "ehwo ehwo ehwo, e e e e h w o o o, ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo, ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu, e e e e h w o o o." He then held out the car to show everyone the backside where the Ehwaz was that it was now glowing a faint white light in it's etched location. "As you can see the magic is weak. That's partially due to altering the Gandrs to such an extent. Set the Cars to the top of the track and then one of you will release the cars down the track. Once that's done. quickly hop down to the obstacles on the track. With your partner you'll need to both recite the Galdr in harmony to keep the weakening magic on the cars from fading for each of the obstacles in their paths." He pointed toward each of the major hinderances they will face with the track. "If you and your partners are off even just a little while maintaining the rune on the back of the cars they could overshoot this gap." He pointed to the jump right near the start of the track. "The Cars could collide at this sharp turn" His hand motioned to the corner of the track. "Then finally if you both can't maintain the galdr in simpatico at this loop they will fall or loose momentum." He came down off the stage and moved behind the finish line. "The Goal isn't to beat your partner on this track. It's to work together. Make the Cars move effortlessly along this track and reach the finish line at the same time."

He then placed Silver Chariot back where it was previously with the other five pinewood derby gandrs. "You can all Partner Up now. Practice with each other reciting the galdr for Ehwaz and then once you feel you've gotten the hang of it come to the top of the stage and select your vehicles to use on the track. Don't be picky. They're all equally Brilliant."

With that Professor Gunter then also went over to his nearby Chalkboard and wrote out all the instructions a bit more simplified.

OOC: MAIN ACTIVITY TIME

I'll have Oakey go about and help your characters if they are confused or frustrated or both. Maybe He'll even want to get into this activity himself. But partner up with each other first and foremost.

Don't worry about waiting for others to finish at the track. RP as though it is you and your partners turn to use it once they've finished practicing together. That way you can have your pick of which of the six cars you want to race with.

Your characters can fail at this. I actually encourage chaos at this point (within reason). Not everyone is going to succeed at completing the track on their first go.

Hopefully this is perfectly explained and I didn't miss a beat. If you have any questions PM me. :moose:

This Activity will finish on May 23rd. Then I will move on to ending the class from there.

Even before Gunter turned to do the grand unveiling, Claudine knew that was coming next. But what was under the covers was what she couldn’t guess. It could be any number of things. Duh. It turned out to be a race track and tiny, cute cars. For some reason, Claudine was instantly attracted to the Cheese Wheelz. Oh yeah. That was definitely what she wanted to use. It was just a pity this required pairing up.

Soooo…

“Passst! Heath.'' The Snakette discreetly poked the boyfriend in his arm. "Be my partner, please.''

NiallNIP 05-21-2021 07:10 AM

Quinn shook his head at the first year. "Oh, no, that's alright!"

Huh. A racetrack. Not exactly what Quinn was expecting. He wasn't really expecting anything specific, but if he was, it wouldn't have been that. He eyed each of the different cars that the Professor had set out... none of them really called to him more than any others. He thought that Cheese Wheelz seemed pretty funny, though.

Quinn eyed Atlas a bit warily. "Um... did you wanna be partners? Or would you rather go with someone else? If you do it's, um... y-you don't have to make yourself be my partner, is what I mean." Okay, maybe that wasn't a very good strategy for keeping it simple, but Quinn still wasn't sure how Atlas was feeling after the whole... everything. He just wanted to make sure... he would rather know now where Atlas stood about still being around him

Oh? OOOOOOOOOOOH! Professor Gunter came to PLAY.

The response brought an actual smile to the Gryffindor's lips and was one that lasted all the way through to the activity explanation. It was like...robotics with runes, and Atlas was a champion robotics driver. "...awesoooooooooome..." he hummed under his breath while leaning forward, hands on his knees, and attention entirely captivated. The Silver Chariot was the obvious choice too, it was so sleek and awesome looking. He had this crazy idea of...shrinking down to fit the size of the car too. Atlas didn't think he could manage it with magic...but with runes maybe they could. Like...Berkana...in reverse. Or whatever it was that that fancy word it was for when the effects were opposite.

...it was an idea he could not stop thinking about and was totally on his mind when Quinn approached him. "Huh?" Slowly coming out of his day dream while tracing the B shaped rune on his palm still. It took a moment for his brain to switch from one fantasy to reality, but it click after a second. "Yeah. Let's do it this." Awkward and confused tension? Totally forgotten at the moment and overshadowed by the light of curious possibility. Quickly loops an arm through Quinn's and pulled him a little off to the side to whisper something. "We should see about borrowing the Silver Chariot outside of class and shrinking ourselves to ride it." He would have just outright suggested that they do this during class but that was too obvious. And Professor Gunter was RIGHT there.

_______

As Professor Gunter used his wand to pull off a cover to something in the class and it looked something like...a racetrack? Oh, that's pretty interesting. and looking at the cars he also had for the activity. This WAS gonna be fun. Looking around the class, "Anyone want to partner up for this?" Not really sure who was gonna answer or anything, but it was worth a shot to see who would.

Lisa :)

Ollie turned to her original dance group. She decided it would be easiest to break the four into two pairs of two. She wasn't sure she wanted to pair up with V, who didn't really want to be here. She mentally played eenie meenie miney mo between Remy and Lisa. ANnnnnnnddddd Lisa it is! "Why don't we separate!" She took her suggestion to the group. "I'll go with Lisa, and Remy and V you guys can pair!" She hoped this arrangement wouldn't upset anyone. It just seemed like the easiest to pair up.

Quinn blinked. Oh. "Alright," Quinn said with a small smile. He guessed... it wasn't even a big deal for Atlas. He felt a little dumb, honestly. For Atlas is was genuinely just simple. He wasn't expecting to be tugged along and he stumbled a bit when they first started walking, but he fell in step quickly. Quinn eyed the Silver Chariot and stifled some laughs. "Wait, do you think there's a spell or something to make us small enough?" He outright giggled this time, imagining him and Atlas zooming around in a toy car. It would definitely be fun to go around the loop-de-loop in it. And suddenly it was like nothing had changed since they were on the Hogwarts Express on their way to start their first year.

V! :3

Okay, the main activity sounded like A LOT of fun. Remy was starting to like Professor Gunter, although he seemed a little crazy, too. But that was a good thing. Partners... uh oh... there were more than two people in this dance group. She turned to the girls, but...

Before Remy could speak, Ollie had decided the partners, and Remy was HURT. Hurt by BOTH of her friends, even though Lisa hadn't said anything by this point so it wasn't her fault. Did Ollie not know that herself and this other firstie were not acquainted with each other???? Did Ollie like Lisa more than her???????????????????

Remy frowned a little, ignored Ollie, and turned to the other girl in the group. "I'm Remy." She introduced herself and tried a smile.

She returned her attention to the front of the class and squinted her eyes at the board to get used to the words they were gonna be pronouncing together. "Shall we try and recite it togther?" At the same time. Might as well practise that way since that was what the main activity involved.
