Default The Field Trip to the Dragon Reserve

Hidden in the higher mountains of Wales, Unplottable and rumoured to be located somewhere within Snowdonia, lies the Welsh Dragon Reserve. Established centuries ago, this reserve is home to the native Common Welsh Green; however, over the years other other breeds of dragons (such as the Hebridean Black, Peruvian Vipertooth, Norwegian Ridgeback, Swedish Short-Snout, Romanian Longhorn, and Chinese Fireball) have been added to the reserve for training and research purposes as well as the safe-keeping of these dangerous beasts.

Dragons roam freely within a valley, which has magically drawn perimeters, containing a wooded forest, grassy plains, and numerous streams. There is a well-worn path that dragonologists use to make their way around the reserve, which begins and ends at the base of a snowcapped mountain. Some of the smarter dragons like to linger around this area as the feral goats trekking on the lower ranges make for an easy meal.

A large and deep cave can be found up alongside the mountain, which is where many dragons like to brumate during the winter months. The cave also doubles up as the training and research facility used by the dragonologists that work at the reserve. University students who aspire to work with dragons are encouraged to visit the reserve, where they can observe under the supervision of an employed dragonologist.

-------- Friday, January 11, 2104 --------
-------- continued from THIS CLASS LESSON --------

The students arriving from Hogwarts via portkey landed near the dragonologist base of operations, right off the well-worn path. Their arrival was not announced nor expected, per the strict NO COMMUNICATION rules that were currently in place at the School. Some students may even have had parents, friends, relatives, or acquaintances already working at the reserve or visiting by coincidence on this day. Some students, on arrival, may have viewed this day as an opportunity to cause chaos for the rest of the world (after all, dragons are... very large, and do deserve to be free). Others may have seized the opportunity of this trip outside of the school boundaries as a chance to take back the freedom the Neo-Alliance has been limiting all school year.

Well well well, and welcome, Hogwarts Students. Welcome to your new playground?

OOC NOTE from 6:30 PM EST on 21 FEB. 2021: This thread will be closing to students in the next 24 hours, so please grab a portkey and get back to the School.

She managed to stay up right, and Lilith held her frozen posture for a bit, making sure her small breakfast wouldn't come back up. Breathing also helped. When she was sure nothing was going to make itself back up, she rubbed her clammy hands on her sides.

This wasn't so bad. If her health had been at one hundred percent she'd be looking forward to dragons. Maybe one could squish her.

When baby dragons were mentioned, Lilith nodded her head. Cece. She's become familiar with her classmate's face.

A sudden spark bounced around her stomach, and she was sure it was vomit. They were outside of Hogwarts. Outside its boundaries. Her heart then began to thump faster. Falling in-step with Aboli, she nudged her softly with her elbow. "It's nice, huh? Being outside...with dragons." The older girl must know what opportunity this provided them, right? Or was it just her?

But she’d made a promise that she’d be safe, hadn’t she? So if she made a move to say something and she was caught, it could mean REALLY bad things and she couldn’t risk that, could she?

...No, she couldn’t. She couldn’t risk anyone else getting hurt because of her.

Maybe Williamson had a plan. He had been acting strangely, after all. Maybe he was going to do something. She really hoped he was.

Glancing around at the others, the fifth year gestured to the path. ”I say we follow the path up that way and try to find the baby dragons. Come on.” Cece started walking, wand out, hoping her group would follow. Maybe they could put some ground between themselves and the hooded creepers.

The good thing about this time around? Claudine managed to stay on her feet when sticking the landing. This was possibly her first time ever she could say she hadn’t fallen over after using a Portkey.

The girl looked around at her group, secretly hoping that The Hood had gotten left behind. And were all her boot-mates here? “Everyone okay?’’

What a relief it was to be someplace other than Hogwarts right now. What a time to be exploring dragons!

"Which direction should we head in?" Because this girl was itching to check out the winged creatures!

NO. no. Not your job. Your job is to stay safe...for Noah, for Bernie, for Fiona, for all your friends...for Koko. And for your group. She twirled her wand automatically, her thinking too focused on her inner thoughts to notice. "I feel dizzy, but otherwise fine," she said blankly, still lost in her thoughts. "Baby dragons. Cool. Lead the way, Summers." Her tone was still.....not right. She was too engrossed in the idea of letting someone know out here what was happening at the school.

How had Williamson gotten sanction to do this? The Hooded Figures...there...had to be a catch they didn't know about. And so...she would be a good duckling, and she would do her following. No rebellion here. Too risky.

Fiona couldn't help but notice Aboli's demeanour and was at a lost as to what to do. It was no good reassuring her because life wasn't good these days so she just kept focused on the trip and lesson like a good little student.

This was basically the best day the Gryffindor had since school started, which had been one big bummer after another. But today they were going to see actual dragons, up close and personal probably, and he couldn't have been in a better mood.

"Yeah! Great idea, Cece!" Morgan agreed, though he'd be up for pretty much anything that involved dragons at that point. Would they be allowed to ride a dragon, maybe, too? He glanced over at Triple Dubs before following his group up the path on the search for baby dragons. Woo!

Snoozing somewhere along this group's intended path was a large, Hebridean Black. Its bat-like wings occasionally flapped, causing a gust of wind to travel towards the group. He was a snoring boyo. Snorting fire in his deep slumber.

Ever hear that saying about tickling a sleeping dragon?

When the professor had told them that they would be observing dragons, he naively had thought they'd be in the wild. But this, a reserve filled with non hogwarts people, it was not what he had expected and he wondered why the Neo-Alliance had agreed to it.

But this... This was also an opportunity. A way to ask for outside help. But he knew he couldn't just walk up to a nearest dragonologist and say 'Hey there, Hogwarts has been taking over by a group who call themselves the Neo-Alliance. We need immediate help or else we will all die. Anyway nice weather!' if they did it like that it be suicide especially since The Hoods had come with most likely to keep them from getting help.

Merlins beard his head was pounding.

Maybe they could somehow leave messages without The Hoods knowledge...

"which way should we go?" he asked the other muggleborns as he turned around to look at them.

Quinn clutched his stomach nauseously and didn't even attempt to move yet. He never ever wanted to travel by Portkey again, and then it dawned on him he would have to Portkey back. He groaned again.

Quinn sat up hesitantly and looked around. Oh—wait—people! Other people! Non-Alliance Muggle-neutral people! Quinn was about to get up and run—screw it, if he threw up he threw up—but then remembered that the Hoods came with them. He curbed his impulse and settled for standing and brushing off his side where he landed. He looked at the normal people, potential saviors, wistfully, for a moment, before turning back to his group. Then his mind was brought back to the fact that, not only was he still trapped, he had to go and find dragons. You know, the XXXXX-rated untamable wizard-killing creatures. How fun.

He shrugged at Minjae's question. "Would we be able to go somewhere where, there were, y'know... people that would be able to stop us from getting killed? If the situation were to arise," he added, seeing as it was indubitably possible.

Still, she was still standing, and managed to keep ahold of the pitchfork. She'd just...hang on to this pitchfork. Maybe they'd find some dragon dung and want to check it for bones? Or maybe they'd need to vault themselves over a ditch or a sleeping dragon. But no, she would not be using the pitchfork for any dragon tickling. She didn't want to be physically roasted, in additional to verbally roasted.

Mamie pointed toward a stream. "Dragons drink water? We can follow the stream and find a dragon?" she suggested, looking to Minjae for approval. Plus, then they wouldn't get lost. Look at her, using her critical thinking skills twice in one day. Twice in one class, even. Who said Mamie wasn't smart?

And, maybe the sound of running water could provide some cover, if they were to...discuss things. Non-dragon things that Mamie wouldn't think to talk about.

Plus. Water puts out fire.

"Oh my god," she announced to nobody in particular once the ordeal was finally over. Luckily none of it had splattered on her or anyone nearby. Unluckily, that didn't make the smell any better.

So the second thing Eden did was find the older kid who must've been assigned as group leader or something - he towered over the rest of their little gang. He wasn't too far away. Big green eyes looked up at the hufflepuff, then around at Mamie, Quinn, and Ashley, then back up at Minjae. "Does anybody," she was really just asking the older kid, "Know a mouthwash spell?"

Eden didn't care where they went as long as they saw dragons and maybe got away from the hoods. But she needed the vomit smell to stop.

This whole trip did not sit easy with him. The Headmaster had gone to great lengths to cut off all communications in and out of the school. So why had he agreed to this field trip? They could easily ask for help even with The Hoods present. Because who would people believe first? Adorable little kids like Quinn, Eden, Mamie and Ashley or a scary looking hooded figure who at first sight just seemed menacing?

This was TOO easy and Minjae did not like the feeling of dread that he felt in the pit of his stomach that he couldn’t place. A feeling of dread that had nothing to do with the dragons they were supposed to find.

He took out his wand but kept it hidden in his sleeve before he turned around to look at the younger students in his group. . He was surprised that Mamie and Ash had managed to stay upright, good for them. His eyes landed on Quinn next and he was about to ask him if he was alright when Eden caught his attention.

The way she doubled over told him that something was wrong and the Hufflepuff didn’t think twice before he marched over to help her. Only to stop dead in his track when she began vomiting. He had to look away as his own stomach seemed to turn . Was she done yet? He didn’t dare look in fear that he too would vomit.

Luckily, he held it in and instead he reached inside of his robe pocket to search for something. When Eden approached them and asked for a mouthwash spell , Minjae handed two peppermints instead. ”Here” he said. He always carried a roll in case of , you know, Noah had set him up for another unexpected blind date with someone. AHEM ANYWAY.

As for the vomit? He did nothing about it. Because a twisted thought inside of his mind hoped that at least one of The Hoods would step in it. Also because he wasn’t sure if he COULD do anything. They were away from Hogwarts and although he was a seventh year, he was still sixteen years old with his birthday coming up next month. Were they allowed to use magic here ?

He looked down at the kids ‘oh my gosh i am FINALLY the tallest in a group’ and thought for a moment. He really did not like that they were looking at him like he was some kind of baby-sitter leader. He knew he was the oldest of the lot but Merlin’s Beard did he look like he paid attention in class?! Well, actually he had been paying attention in classes this year out of fear of the Alliance but the previous years?? Ha! the teenager was found playing games more than actually studying.

"Let's find a dragonologist and ask for a" he had to choose his words carefully here "Tour " he said, giving Mamie an apologetic look. Her idea to go to the water wasn't bad at all. The sound of the stream could cover up their voices, especially if they found a waterfall, however his main goal here was not to find the dragons. It was to find other people. To ask for help. But what if Rosier WANTED that to happen? What if he had stationed his followers disguised as dragonologists to see who dared go against his rules so they could be punished accordingly when they got back ?

He was worried. Extremely worried and it showed on his face as he looked around for any sign of The Hoods . But it was worth the shot wasn't it? If they did get caught he'd say it was all his idea . That he had threatened them to come with. "Keep hold of the pitch forks" he said "They could serve as an extra defense" weapon was more like it.

And if they did come across a dragon before that then whoopdedoo.

Recard wasn't here, if anybody's teeth got pummeled or worse, literally the only trustworthy adult around was Williamson, and that was...questionable. He seemed freaked out, imagine what the poor grumpy old man would do if the Muggleborns went and tried to run away.

Because yes. She interpreted "ask for a tour" as "run away and never come back to Hogwarts."

There was a reason she didn't want to let go of the pitchfork, and it wasn't that she thought she could use it for defense. She didn't want to miss the portkey back and be stuck here. With dragons and weird dragonologists who didn't sound like they had real jobs. Did any of these supposed dragonologists have children? Why would you bring children to the home of dangerous, firebreathing creatures, in the middle of winter?

"Okay," she mumbled quietly. She didn't need Minjae to tell her to keep the pitchfork. She pulled out her wand, too, so she had pitchfork in one hand and her wand in the other.

She would follow along with Minjae and the others. But...but what if the outside adults were like Rosier and the Neo-Alliance, and not like their good professors? She wished they had scattered the muggleborns among the other kids, then at least people would have to think twice about who they were hexing, and aim better. But if someone was out to get the Muggleborns (and they were, in her experience), them all being in a group together made them one big target. Instead of lots of little targets.

Oooh? What were those SHARP, POINTY things?!?!

The Peruvian Vipertooth twins wanted a closer look. They flapped their wings and started their descent towards the group. Sharp! Pointy! They wanted one! Could they has?

Except there was also the hooded squad lurking around them. But even then, they would still be noticed, right? They couldn't just stop people from noticing a big group of students running around the reserve. Or was there some kind of trap hidden in all this that she just couldn't think of?

This was the closest they had been to freedom in months, but she refused to underestimate these creeps even now. There had to be some reason they'd allow them to go on this trip, even with the Inquisitorial Squad watching. She just...wished she could figure out what that was.

Maybe an opportunity would present itself.

But for now, dragons.

"Soo, where do you all want to go first?" she asked the rest of the group.

He would if he made sure his breakfast would stay in his stomach. It was a good thing he ended up with some dedicated students who'd lead whatever they were supposed to do in here. Oh, Merlin, something was coming up... something.. something... oh just a small lil air. WHEW.

"Climbing?" Why did Phoebe like laborious work was beyond him. "Oh, you mean the cave. Okay, yes." He thought there was a mountain she was suggesting to tackle. Heh heh heh. The cave was spooky but alright, he didn't mind as long as he didn't have to do much work here except marvel at those dragons. "It's very interesting that there are... people here. Right?" He added in a lower tone, a small smile on his face. Now don't get him wrong, he didn't feel the need to approach any of the adults that they may see. No. BUT it was impossible not to feel a little excitement over seeing those who exist outside the walls of the school during term period. He should've written to his grandmother and told her to come here for a quick cuppa...

"This is amazing," she whispered, feeling a sense of freedom that she hadn't felt in ages. Being trapped in that castle had really done her in. Louise never wanted to leave this sanctuary.

Maybe they could knock out their hooded friend and run away.

"Cave," Louise said in agreement, her feet already taking her away. She ignored the other students idea to ask the other adults to help them because the enemy (inquisitorial squad kid) was still in their midst, and instead chatted about the Common Welsh Green. "They like to hide in the mountains, of course. But they're one of most calm breeds of dragons. They don't particularly like human interaction, but they're less likely to burn us to a crisp." That's what she remembered from her readings, anyway.

That was why the tyre had been the best choice, and why Weasley was more or less temporarily in their good books for not trying to direct them to a different object. It provided a sort of stability, something sturdy to brace against, and kneeling helped too, even if Nem did have to contend with their kneecap being all but slammed into the ground upon arrival, and none too gently either.

They took a moment, just a moment, to adjust, and stayed kneeling on the ground, hand still on the used up portkey, a steady throbbing in their knee. Eventually, they pushed themselves to their feet, but didn't move further other than to shove their gloves into their pocket, and draw their wand.

Was this some kind of trap? Could be. Nem did not think it was something as straightforward as a simple field trip, not when the Big Man had taken pains to cut them off from society for so long. It didn't really fit, unless something had changed. Or unless something was going to change. Or...? Or... dragons were very powerful, weren't they? Very dangerous. There were more dangerous things, mind.

Ultimately, Nem knew they were safe, shielded not only by the professor, bound by his job description (and maybe his nature, who was to say) to protect his students, but by their own affiliation with the Big Man and his pals. Neither Walter nor the Neo-Alliance grunts would be much help against a dragon, not on their own, but that was not the kind of complication Nem was anticipating. The vast majority of that feeling of safety came, in any case, from their own capabilities. If something was about to happen, they were almost looking forward to it.

Nem still hadn't moved. They were still sanding silently and seriously beside the tyre, wand still drawn, thinking. Fortifying.

It was important. Also important? Drawing her wand, just like Nem! Of course, she was mostly just doing it to look like she knew what she was doing. Spells still weren't her forté and, um, she didn't want to try anything in front of Nem and accidentally expel magic that wasn't supposed to be expelled. It was a problem still. She didn't like embarrassing herself in general, but sometimes these things were worse when they happened in front of cool, older kids. Like Nem!

Unlooping her arm from the tyre, she hopped up super quick and--

Whoaaaaaaaaa, she was kind of ~~ woooooooOOooOOOOoooOOOOzzZZzzYyYyyYYy. ~~

So before she could fall off balance, she latched herself onto Nem for stability. Good thing he was here! But, um, when she realized, she looked up feeling all sorts of bashful and embarrassed. "Sorry," she whispered, still fully-latched and kind of not wanting to let go. He was being awfully quiet, did he know? .... Was he thinking? Kizzy looked over to the rest of the group just to check to see if everyone had made it, before once again turning her full attention to Nemesis Upstead. And after a few moments of silence, she decided to say something because someone had to. "Um. Where do you think we should go first?" The question was meant to be for the whole group, but she accidentally just asked Nem.

OKaYYY, she’d just have to pull hers out too then?! Unsure exactly why her wand was now in her hand, she moved slightly closer to Kinsay and Adam and the Slytherin with the uh…yeah. The Slytherin. Yeah.

“Hey, uh…Kinsay? Earth to Kinsay?!” her eyes now on her friend. “Are you sure you’re okay?”. Was it her or did she look a little green? “Do you need to sit down or something? You look like you’re about to throw up over…uh…your friend”, her eyes now flitting between them both and their linked arms. Huh. Weird. Kinsay hadn't even mentioned thingy before when they'd been hanging out. But you know...cool. Whatever.

“Do you want to maybe go see the Dragon’s in the caves? They’re supposed to be bromating. Maybe we could get up close?” because why would they not want to get up close to snoozy, fire breathing killing machines?! It was obviously what all of the groups were going to do but DUH, it was the coolest idea and the only thing they should do.

It was feeding time and the baby Fireball was getting hungry! And look! SNACKS! "Eeeeeeork!" She squealed with glee, bounding towards the group gathered around the tyre. It wanted a nibble of the brunette first!!!!

And, of course, where there was a baby Fireball, there was always a mother nearby. Hers happened to be watching proudly from behind the neighboring forest.

There was a burp, which reminded him of the sausage and toast smothered in butter and orange marmalade he had had for breakfast that morning, and then...something a lot more than a burp that the Gryffindor forced himself to swallow back down. His throat burned and he wished desperately for some chocolate or literally anything to take away this flavor away from his mouth and the back of his throat.

And then his suspicions were confirmed, ten fold. The dragonologist station was everything you expected it to look like, but the sinking feeling of being told to stick to their groups was...alarming. He was in a group of first years. All first years. They did not stand a chance and were honestly worst off than the muggleborn groups who at LEAST had pitchforks to use for weapons in a pinch. Not that they would do much to pierce the hide of a dragon but...his group could only invite theirs to tea. Least they would be able to make nice piping hot cups of it?

Ha...haha...haha...humor. Humor was painful right now.

But then there was another thought. None of them were of age. This wasn't Hogwarts.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERM...

"U-Um...professor?" Atlas spoke up, glancing at his group and smacking his lips to try and get the taste out of his mouth somewhat. "What...what ... should we do... with our wands? I...well...I mean...those of us who are are not 17..."

Seeing Atlas first, Cam went to stand by her housemate. She was strangely excited about seeing the dragons. At the same time, she was extremely anxious about being close to some very big and fierce dragons while partnered with three of her fellow first years. How was it possible to feel two opposite things at the same time? Life was so complicated.

Yes, they were supposed to stick with their groups, but were they allowed to just wander off? That did not seem like a very good idea to Camryn. This was going to be interesting a disaster.

A dopey Norwegian Ridgeback has taken an interest in your group, eyeing you from the distance. "Eeeeeorrrk!" Come play! Come play!

"Rawwwwk!" He jumped up and down trying to get your attention. "Rawwwwk!" Was it working? Play, pwease?

Ilya quietly stood by the group, quietly because he probably looked greenish in the face still from the travel. He HATED portkeys, did he mention that? No?

If she sandwiched some risky thoughts between normal speech about this lesson, the inquisitorial squad wouldn't be able to catch them, right?? She was not even glancing in their direction, even though she really wanted to check where they were, because it would look suspicious. The second year led the way up to the cave, hoping they would meet some kind dragonologists in there.

Williamson had been acting weird. Granted most people had been acting differently all year, but considering their circumstances it made sense. Louise just felt like he had been acting EXTRA strange today.

That concern, however, vanished as quickly as the Hogwarts grounds did when the portkeys spun them off and away and into.... a DRAGON RESERVE. Louise caught herself when they landed (she had lots of practice with portkeys) and her big green eyes looked around, delight filling her insides.

Good, they all agreed to climb up toward the cave. Phoebe shoved off toward the path that led in that direction, following behind Louise who was apparently ready to just GO GO GO. Honestly, Phoebe was ready to go go go herself. She wasn't in the mood for conversation or trying to charm Ilya (who was one of her favorite people to charm).

But then she heard from Irithel, Phoebe spun on the girl, quickly glancing around to see if any of the Goon Squad was near enough to hear her. "Keep that kind of thing to yourself. No one is dying today, okay? If you want to wander off in search of dragon eggs, that's up to YOU, but don't... don't you dare get someone killed by talking about things like that."

And now she was done being a bossy little Gryffindor, and she was going to climb this mountain. "Don't climb behind me in case I throw myself off the mountain."

Heath landed with the rest of his group, wobbling only slightly. He steadied himself, trying to fight off a persistent wave of nausea, though he wasn’t sure if it was from the portkey travel or general nervousness. His dark eyes surveyed his surroundings, but any intrigue he might’ve otherwise felt at the sight of dragons was tempered with worry. Something was wrong about this field trip. He didn’t know what yet, but he could feel it!

Before he could get a word in edgewise, the rest of the group had already decided to go to the cave. Why does everyone want to go back to Jakkuto the cave? Every gut feeling he had screamed that this was a bad idea. If anything went wrong, he wanted to be as close to the ground as possible! There was less height to fall from there, and probably more eyes watching too. If he thought anyone in his group would listen to him, he might’ve said as much, but he really wasn’t in the mood to argue.

He reluctantly trudged along with the group, not saying a word to anyone so as not to accidentally draw the ire of his groupmates or worse, the hoods. He couldn’t say the wrong thing if he said nothing at all, right? No slipping up if you slip away… He ignored Irithel’s comments, but something he couldn’t ignore? Phoebe James being bossy. No need to worry about that, he thought. He wasn’t about to climb behind her; he was fine staying on the ground for as long as possible. If he was the last one up, he’d be the last one in harm’s way if he was right about the cave being dangerous!

As he waited his turn to climb, he heard a strange noise that sounded like something between a roar and a cry. “Did anyone else hear that?” he wondered out loud.

The hooded figures were not at all fazed by portkey travel. Upon landing, they wasted no time in spreading out. A few of them roamed the perimeter of the dragon reserve, checking the wards in place, while the rest moved among the students. There would be no stepping out of line today!

One figure followed behind the group of muggleborn scum where one dirty little mudblood (Brynn) made the air just as disgusting as herself with her vomit. Then that insubordinate Hufflepuff (DuckyLinJi) spoke. The figure tapped their wand against their hand menacingly. Did he need another knockback jinx?

Another hooded figure hovered close enough to overhear the young Ravenclaw (Sunflower) and drew their wand. Those comments earned the girl a Langlock. Good luck saying anything with your tongue glued to the roof of your mouth, girl! Shame, that one was a pureblood. She should know better.

The figure following the tea kettle group heard the Gryffindor boy’s (sweetpinkpixie) question. All would be revealed in time...

Thank Merlin, she did not crash land. By some stroke of luck, Lia managed to remain on her feet even if very unsteadily. Wobbling was okay, falling over would've been bad. So would getting sick in front of everyone. Her head was spinning and she was more than just a little nauseous right now.

Bending over with her hands on her knees, the first year closed her eyes for a minute, taking in several slow deep breaths. Only when she was absolutely positive that she wasn't going to lose her breakfast, did she open her eyes and stand up straighter.

Blue eyes tried to take in everything at once but it was too much. Williamson's instructions to go look around and stick with her group had her realizing that her group of first years, while super awesome was just that... first years. If anything were to happen they would likely be dragon food. Not exactly where she wanted this trip to head, thank you.

Spotting Atlas and Camryn, Lia gently tugged Tadhg over to their group. "Are you both okay?" Camryn looked as ill as she currently felt. She was all for waiting for Atlas to get the answer to his question which was a very good one.. but also.. dragons!!!

Could they go see the dragons now please? Where there were dragons there were also handlers, right? Like her cousin and her sister... well okay, not Hady really but she did occasionally deal with them. Dahlia knew that sometimes Hady came here to check on the dragons... how often, she didn't exactly know. Dragons though, dragons!

"Where should we start? Maybe we can go look for the lit-" A strange screech like roar of sorts cut straight through her question. What in the world?! All of her current thoughts were lost as fast had she had considered them. A Norwegian Ridgeback had caught her eye and it seemed like they had caught its eye as well. "Look!" Lia exclaimed in obvious excitement nodding towards the dragon that was... jumping up and down?! How stinking cute was that?! Incredibly. That's how much!

So far, everything seemed.... okey-dokey. Now, he knew they weren't exactly EXPECTED today, but he also knew some of the people who worked here, and so he wasn't too concerned with their arrival.

"STICK WITH YOUR GROUP," he bellowed once again. "We're looking at the CHARACTERISTICS of the DRAGONS. So make some observations, write some things down... get GOING but BE SAFE......"

And he'd be going to grab the nearest adult human he could find to shake some sense into them. DID THEY KNOW HOW BAD THINGS WERE AT HOGWARTS? DID THEY KNOW?!
A witch with gray-streaked hair appeared with a loud pop not long after the first of the students arrived. They had triggered alarm warnings near the bunkhouse for staff and Georgia Templeton, the head of the Preserve was mad because she had just sat down with a cup of coffee. She had been expecting muggles, out backpacking through the wilderness like they didn’t know any better. The fact that they didn’t, did not matter to Georgia. She just wanted them gone.

So to say she was surprised to see students traipsing around her preserve was an understatement! ”ARE YOU MAD!?” she yelled at the first adult (Williamson) she found. She had half a mind to take him by the collar and shake some sense into him. ”What are all these students doing here!”

It wouldn’t keep them all from falling over should the dragon(s) try picking one of them up, but it certainly would keep the dragon(s) from flying off with one of them in their talons.

And then before she could get further distracted she pointed her wand back towards the bunkhouse. "Expecto Patronum!" A silvery Badger shot out of her wand and ran off into the distance in search of reinforcements.

Merlins beard his head was pounding.

Holding his hand against his chest, Minjae breathed in and out carefully as he looked around at his surroundings with caution. It still hurt but it was managable.

On Landing Moose managed to land, and though at first it looked like the coolest Iron-Man ground pound you ever did see it turned into more of knees first then face into the ground. he stood up and dusted himself off just in time to avoid more humiliation of getting barfed on.

gee lucky him.

He looked over at Eden his Frown™ still firmly on his face. "First time?" he remarked, shaking his head to her question about Mouthwash magic. Shaking his head also helped clear his head of any dizziness that was still lingering. Shook his head back into place.

He listened carefully to everyone's thoughts on what they should do. But most of all to the 7th Year Hufflepuff. He was seemingly the leader despite being unable to stand up against the goons that attacked him earlier. They were doomed. Holding onto the pitchforks was a good idea. He looked toward the one that Ashley had just dropped and quickly picked it up gripping it tightly and holding it close to his body.

O_O

Nope Nope Nope! Two Dragons were swooping down on them! Swooping is bad, this is bad. He held his pitchfork up and out like a lance as protection but then looked behind him at the Hooded Jerks. .... Eat them! EAT THEM Eat them instead of him!! Moose started to move a few steps back hoping to put the Hoods between him and the dragons.

And then before she could get further distracted she pointed her wand back towards the bunkhouse. "Expecto Patronum!" A silvery Badger shot out of her wand and ran off into the distance in search of reinforcements.
SAVED!!

Moose stopped his backing up to put the Jerks between him and the Dragons the moment some kind of barrier came over head them. He lowered the pitchfork, but did not drop it, and sat down because his knees where buckling from fear. He let out a sigh of relief. And looked over to the person who had just done so!! a Person!! A PERSON FROM THE OUTSIDE!!!

Breath mints? They'd have to do.

"Thanks," Eden said with an appreciative nod at Minjae. She took the mints and immediately popped one in her mouth and one in her pocket for the inevitable second round of breath-freshening. You had to be very thorough with some smells or they'd linger all day long.

Then she turned to Moose. "Yes," she answered simply. Of course it was her first time - if she had anything to say about it, it'd the her only time, too.

And then everything kind of abruptly went to heck down yonder.

First, the dragons. Plural. There were a few and they were all gigantic and magnificent and impressive and clawed and et cetera. Eden would stand all day looking up in awe if there weren't a CONCERNINGLY eager pair of dragons flap-flapping determinedly in the pitchfork mob's direction. Eden made the very mature and not at all fear motivated decision to stick next to Moose - he had a weapon pitchfork and could at least kind of be trusted as part of the face tattoo gang. Her own was very faded now, but still pale pink across her forehead and very much there if one were to take a good look.

Second, the scary menace-witch who was everything Eden wanted to be. Finally a useful adult! She was yelling at Williamson! And protecting them from sharp, pointy claws! Eden's mouth dropped open in shock before she quickly shut it. "THANK YOU MA'AM!!!"

Eden wanted to HUG this lady, but a grateful shout would have to do.

She looked around at her group. Could the lady just get a little closer and maybe she could help them with something else, too? Something a little more serious than even dragons trying to eat them? Eden didn't get her hopes up. There was still a chance in the air that the Beautiful Scary Menace-Witch Who Yelled At W.W.W would just drop the defenses and make them dragon chow once she realized they were muggleborn. The same sentiment found among some of her group mates was very much present in Eden, too; they were much easier targets grouped together like this.

Third? The hoods were still here, all up in their grill. Enough said. Eden kept quiet and stuck to observing her surroundings for now, eyes flickering between the dragons in the sky and the people on the ground.

Vomit. A lot of it. She'd eaten a big breakfast, and the world just wouldn't stop spinning. She missed any conversation anyone was having.

By basically everyone (except for Eden, who was sick but she was pretty sure Eden would have also not wanted to do as they were told). Mamie didn't want to get into trouble today.

Instead of lots of little targets.

gee lucky him.

Nope Nope Nope! Two Dragons were swooping down on them! Swooping is bad, this is bad. He held his pitchfork up and out like a lance as protection but then looked behind him at the Hooded Jerks. .... A lot of things seemed to happen in quick succession, and Quinn barely had time to process.

First off, Eden threw up. A lot. The smell was pretty rancid, and Quinn probably would keep a bit of distance between them for now. In case it happened again. They may be cool with each other, but he was still not a fan of getting vomited on.

And then they were planning on asking someone for a tour, which Quinn assumed meant please please please help us. And he was a fan of that plan, except for the menacing Hoods that stood all around them.

And then two things happened at once; first, a lady popped into existence (literally popped—Quinn may have jumped a bit) and started yelling at the Professor. He gathered that... this was an unexpected visit. What... what kind of a field trip was this? Something felt very, very wrong to Quinn.

Was this a move that the Professor was making to get help, or... was this being orchestrated by the Alliance? Did they want to bring the kids here for some reason?

He didn't make much time to think about it before the second thing happened—dragons! Flying over them!!!! This group of children probably seemed like a bunch of tasty snacks to them. Quinn let out an "Eek!" and dropped to the ground, covering his head. As if that would save him from getting snapped up by a dragon. What would save him was the shield charm put up by the lady, but he was too busy shivering on the ground to realize it had been put up.

Where WERE the baby dragons, though? Did Cece know where she was going? She also was trying her best to keep her, Fiona, Cece, Claudine, and Morgan altogether. Except Morgan better stay piped down. She didn't much feel like dealing with him. Gryffindor fifth years, besides Bernie and Cece, were the bane of her existence.

Oh, there was Lilith, too. Aboli appreciated her trying to talk to her even if she was EXUDING DON'T BLOODY TALK TO ME vibes. It was hard not to loosen up being out here...it almost felt free. Almost. The hooded figures had spread out like wildfire, and wherever she looked she could still see one. It was depressing. "It's cool. I...I guess I've never seen a dragon this close before," she said softly back. "Guys..." she glanced at her group. "Why do you think Rosier let us do this? My stomach feels...queasy. I'm nervous," she bit her lip. "Stay close." Luckily no firsties in their group thus far. Her HIGH ALERT IN CHARGE emotions were lower because of that. ALSO at least she hadn't thrown up. Like that Ravenclaw.

Ohhhh! Aboli gestured at the path in front of them. "Guuuuuys. He's asleep," she actually smile. The light fire coming from his snout when he snored was CUUUUUTE in a scary kinda' way. "We should probably not get too close. Let's try to veer out of his way best we can," she whispered.

She heard a yell, and her heart like, ALMOST DIED as she looked round for Professor W. Turned out the yelling was AT him. Imagine yelling at another adult like that, Merlin. There was actually a lot happening at once that Aboli instinctively took Lillith's and Morgan's hand in her gloved ones. ANd quickly let go because ewwww why?????

"....are we NOT supposed to be here?" she asked no one in particular.

Valencia walked at the back of her group, sidestepping the entire time so that she could keep her eyes on the Hooded ones. This was their first time out in such a large group and she had a terrible feeling about it.

Her fingers played alone the edge of her wand, ready at any second to draw and gladly hex those hoods right off when the time came. Yes, it was a when.

She did stop and focus when she head odd sounds...

She nodded. Yes. She heard the noise. She lit her wand with a silent lumos, keeping it close to the ground so everyone's eyes could adjust before gradually moving her wand arm up to try and get a look around.

Diiiid Cece know where she was going? Well actually, NO, no she didn’t! All she knew was that she wanted AWAY from the hooded dudes as fast as possible and that meant they needed to keep moving. Luckily everyone seemed more than happy to take a little adventure and really, how hard could the little dragon babies be to find, anyway? She was surprised there weren’t signs around here telling them where to go. Or a map. A map would’ve been cool, too.

”I don’t know why he let us come, but I don’t think we should question it. “ Firstly because she was so happy to be out of the castle and secondly because someone might hear them and they might end up on the wrong end of someone’s wand.

As they moved along the path, the blonde did notice that there seemed to be little gusts of wind coming their way. It was pretty cool, actually, ‘cause it made her hair blow in the wind and she felt like she was in some kind of muggle music video or something! Too bad singing wasn’t allowed these days. Or, you know, fun of any kind. Sort of killed the opportunity to run with her little music video moment. LUCKILY the sight of a real live actual DRAGON saved her from becoming a droopy sad Cecelia flower. ”Loooook! It’s so, so cute!“ And big. Definitely not a baby. ”Think Aboli is right. Mum says dragons can get grumpy when they’re woken up. “ And she wasn’t trying to deprive any creature of its beauty rest, you know?

.........Uhhh. Soooo...even if they were trying to not make too much noise, the whole yelling and spell casting going on somewhere she couldn’t quite see, but could definitely hear, might be a problem. What was THAT about? ”Williamson wouldn’t take us on an illegal field trip, would he? “ Were they going to jail? ...Actually, maybe jail was a better deal than going back to Hogwarts.

In all honesty, Mamie didn't actually notice the dragons overhead until her compadres started reacting. To what? The Hooded Squad? She glanced at the individual following behind them, but nope, they were just...there. Being creepy as all get-out, but not actually attacking them yet. Theeeen she heard the Outside Adult Witch cast the big shield charm over them, and Mamie finally looked up.

GOOD MERLIN.

Those were dragons!!! Mamie was certain, absolutely certain, she was going to die today. For the second time this year. Either from the dragons, or from the Muggle-haters, or by accidentally being impaled on one of these pitchforks, maybe even the one she was holding herself. WHY oh why oh why oh whyyyyyy didn't they bring Recard?!

Was her wand still out? She shook the pitchfork and her wand threateningly at the dragon. She was twelve, there really wasn't much she could do to protect herself. Although...what would happen if they put a bubblehead charm on the dragon? Could the fire get through? Could the charm even get through? She thought it might, since it was an...outside charm. Like the ropes one, what was that. "What do we do?" she asked loudly, looking between Minjae and the Outside Witch and Williamson, but really...open to suggestions from the Ravenclaws or Moose. Do they...run? Stand very very still? Could dragons see them if they stood still? No, that was dinosaurs. She didn't like being a sitting duck, though, so she just started....walking...shuffling...slowly...away...i n the general direction of the Outside Witch but not really aiming for her. She didn't want to lose her group, but...she was spreading out from them.

If they were spread out a little more, maybe some of them would survive today.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Oh yay. Dragons. Ash stepped behind Moose. Not that she needed him to protect her, but he was holding her pitchfork and there were dragons coming for them sooo she was gonna stand behind someone with a weapon. Until there weren't dragons anymore. "Quinn, I'd suggest getting off the ground. We're all alive at the moment, and if you want to continue doing that you should probably get up." Seriously, lying on the floor in a ball? How could he move his arms to protect himself? And... oh no, Eden. Noooo. Do not thank the lady who could get killed any second now. Was she going to witness one of the two Unforgivables that she hadn't seen yet? She stepped in the direction of Williamson, even though he was MEAN. Why? Out of all the adults here, he was the least likely to be murdered. And the other muggleborns were all going to die, so she wanted to get away from that. She locked eyes with the dragon lady. Help, Please. No wait, Run.

Default muggleborns with pitchforks *too lazy to quote*
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Minjae was thoroughly disappointed when none of The Hoods had landed in Eden’s vomit. That would have been priceless to witness and he sure could do with a laugh.

His brown eyes briefly landed on The Hood tapping their wand menacingly against their hand before he looked away, his ears flushing red in anger again. He got the message. CHILL.

The next set of happenings happened so fast that he was lost for a moment. Two dragons appeared, which he recognized as Peruvian Vipertooths he opened up a textbook every now and then and he revealed his concealed wand from his sleeve. But honestly, what could he do with it? He was NO match for TWO dragons . He looked behind him at the group of muggleborns and his heart hurt seeing them so scared. Even the pitchforks seemed like laughable toys in their hands.

And then something magical happened. A witch appeared! A gray-streaked haired witch! A NONE HOGWARTS WITCH! He could KISS her for the perfect timing! As the SAVIOR casted the shield charm and the patronus charm no doubt to get re-enforcement , Minjae waited no time and immediately rushed over to Quinn who was shivering on the ground. But it seemed that Ashley had reached him first and he went to Moose instead. "Hey, its alright, come on , get up" he said as he reached out his hand to get him back up on his feet. Was Mamie okay as well??

He looked over to the Professor and the witch and then to The Hood. Was it safe for her to be here though?! He didn't do anything but his eyes were GLUED on The Hood, watching their every move, ready to shout a warning the moment they tried something.

Ilya quietly stood by the group, quietly because he probably looked greenish in the face still from the travel. He HATED portkeys, did he mention that? No?

She turned to the older students in her group and was glad to hear Ilya mention the people around them. "Yes, let's go to the cave and we should ask those adults to rescue us and what else do you guys know about the Common Welsh Green? I'm intrigued."

So to say she was surprised to see students traipsing around her preserve was an understatement! ”ARE YOU MAD!?” she yelled at the first adult (Williamson) she found. She had half a mind to take him by the collar and shake some sense into him. ”What are all these students doing here!”

A pair shadows passed overhead and she glanced up. Oh no…that one was coming in claws outstretched. ”Protego Maxima!” she yelled pointing her wand overhead.

She nodded. Yes. She heard the noise. She lit her wand with a silent lumos, keeping it close to the ground so everyone's eyes could adjust before gradually moving her wand arm up to try and get a look around.

Maybe his mummy would hear his hungry cries. "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" COME BACK TO THE CAVE, MUMMY!!!!!!!! (AND BRING SHEEP TO EAT!)

Ivy didn't mind either plan, checking out a cave or following the path, that Phoebe suggested, so she nodded in agreement with Ilya and Louise choosing the cave option. She glanced a bit nervously at Irithel, very much wanting to agree with that, the rescue part, as well, but voicing those thoughts even now seemed dangerous. Even more so than being in a dragon reserve at all.

Like that hooded figure right there pointing his wand at the second year Ravenclaw and...

...There was no visible light of a spell, but presumably something had been cast, something that didn't seem to be hurtful or violent. So that was...good at least??

Maybe this dragon reserve actually WAS safer for them than Hogwarts right now.

She hurried along to keep up with Heath and Valencia in the back of the group and whispered an "Are you okay?" to Irithel.

But then suddenly there was a LOT of stuff happening. Or a lot of noise at least.

Someone was yelling from the direction they'd just come - that didn't sound good - and then there were half-cries, half-roars coming from the cave - and that was...good? Maybe? Because it was probably a dragon, and it didn't sound big and scary, so maybe it was just a little baby? So it was less dangerous?

"Yeah, I heard it too," she said. Ivy pulled out her wand like Valencia had done and was about to use Lumos herself when she remembered... "Oh. This is still part of the lesson, so we should be able to use magic, right?" Sure, they weren't actually at Hogwarts, and she wasn't supposed to use magic outside of school, but this was basically an extension of school right now, right? And they'd been allowed to use it on the yeti field trip last year, with the bluebell flames. But they weren't being watched by creeps in hoods last year either.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Claudine checked to make sure everyone in her group was okay. Don’t ask her why she cared; she herself didn’t know. “Deep breaths, Aboli.’’ Just a suggestion there. She wouldn’t want her friend fainting. At least Fiona, Lilith and distant relative Morgan were okay as well. Anyway. She was also more than happy to let Cecelia take the lead in picking a path and doing whatever else. The Snakette would just lag at the back of the group, if you please. To the baby dragons! Her excitement was returning and Claudine could hardly wait to set eyes on the creatures.

Claudine heard the dragon before she actually saw it. At first, she was quite bewildered. What was that sound? Her pace slowed just a tad and she peered about cautiously. Notebook and quill were already in hand, ready for notes, of course.

And then…

OHEMGEE!

It was a sleeping dragon! Look at the sleeping babayyy. Did this particular breed like to sleep? “Yeah, let’s not tickle him… or her,’’ Claudine half joked. And what was that about them not supposed to be there? Hmmm? Oh, right! That woman and Williamson there.

“If he brought us on an illegal trip, maybe he’s losing his marbles..."

What in the---- SOMEONE was SHOUTING BACK AT HIM? Williamson's mouth fell open in a perfect little O at his exact behavior being parroted back to him.

"Are YOU mad?" he shouted in return, then remembered that he was here to get her help, and also, that he'd LITERALLY CRASHED INTO A DRAGON RESERVE with a group of twenty-five kids or whatever. So uh, yeah. Guess he could be nicer, huh?

By the time he shook himself, the much quicker-thinking dragonologist had already reacted and sent off a Patronus. Heh. Good. William's dark eyebrows knitted together as he kind of followed the woman around, getting too close to her personal space bubble for it to be comfortable, probably. Breathing down her neck a bit, probably.

"I'm William Williamson, Creatures Professor at Hogwarts, former dragonologist at the Romanian reserve," he whispered at her hurriedly, barely sneaking in a breath, "and the school is outta control. You HAVE help us. They-- they-- forced me to bring the kids here, and I think they're planning to release all the dragons, I don't know---"

He didn't know how candid he could be, and glanced over his shoulder to see if anyone was coming or hearing him.

"You should probably stun me or make it look like I attacked you or something, PLEASE. You have to help our kids. Things are bad. Real bad." Or or or maybe he could stun himself, because he wasn't sure he was going to make it out of this field trip alive either way.

Luckily for Tadhg this wasn't his first time taking a Portkey unlike his fellow classmates. Although he still didn't walk down like the older adults, but he was still able to land on his feet some. Looking at Lia and them he bit lip, he seen some of his fellow classmates sick and not looking to well. "Are y'all okay?" He seen some of them have a crash landing which had to hurt.

With Lia, Cam and Atlas in their little group, his blue eyes looked around the place. He was beyond excited and couldn't wait to see some dragons. His papa told him a lot about them and he read a lot about them as well. He couldn't contain his excitement, his eyes were sparkling with excitement and there was a smile on his face.

Hearing a seerch he was about to turn his head before he heard Lia's squeal in excitement. Chuckling at her excitement and her bouncing up at down, he followed her. "Oh... wow, how feaking awesome!" Standing beside Lia he put her hand back in hers. "Wow... I only seen them in books and stuff, this is amazing!"

Tapping one finger on the handle of their wand, Nem continued for a moment longer to just stand silently in place, even when Limpet started her whole bit. Only when they'd explored several different mental avenues - and were sure that by looking down at the girl so determined to throw them off balance, they wouldn't give in to exactly that - did Nem abruptly back out of their mind planet thoughts and look at the others.

Let it be known that Weasley was already back out of Nem's good books, sticking them with a babysitting job in a place like this. First thing on the agenda was slipping away from the infants. Things around here already seemed to be going off-piste, if that hysterical old battle-axe was anything to go by. At least Wilbur was preoccupied with her for the moment.

"You mean 'brumating'?" they said to the Luck girl, subtly working at unlatching Limpet from their side. Maybe she'd reattach to the other girl, like a magnet switching targets, if they timed it right. "I suppose we-"

But Nem didn't get to finish that sentence, what with the Chinese Fireball. They watched it bound over, and then looked beyond it, in the direction it had come from, once they were sure it had someone else in its sights. It seemed... unlikely (though not impossible) that the baby would be out here on its own. Nem was not alarmed in the slightest by a baby Fireball running full pelt at a second year, but all the same, they considered casting a shield charm in front of the kid, ostensibly so the dragon couldn't reach her. What did Nem care about underage magic restrictions? Anyway, they could claim threat to life, easily. There was a charging dragon and everything.

Of course, a nearby mother might be very unhappy about its baby being stopped in its tracks, its fun abruptly ended.

And that could end very badly.

"Protego." Nem threw up the shield between the baby dragon and the second year without another thought.

Huh?

”Oh, I’m okay. Thanks for checking, Ingrid.” She was still feeling a little dizzy, but latching holding on to Nem helped keep her upright. He was so nice and helpful. Kinsay appreciated him loads. Hopefully he knew that. But if he didn’t, she’d tell him because sometimes it was important to voice these things. In the meantime though, she'd give him another squeeze to show her appreciation. Also! His attempt at unlatching her from his person went entirely unnoticed by Kinsay because…

BABY DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And actually, the dragon's appearance was in Nem's favor because Kinsay immediately let go of the fifth year in order to turn her whole body toward the creature instead. Look! It wanted to be with them! ”Oh, it’s so cute!” And then Kinsay Cassandra James did what anyone would do when they saw a cute baby dragon running towards them at full speed: she stretched out her hands and beckoned it to come over for HUGS. Where was professor Williamson? Could they take the baby back to Hogwarts? Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?

Kinsay squealed (quietly) with delight as the baby dragon—

O.O

Oh. That was a shield.

”….. Are we allowed to use magic?” And also. Would the baby dragon be okay? And could Nem lift the barrier so they could play with it?

Where was his mummyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Why wasn't his mum in the cave? Where was she? She was supposed to bring LUNCH. This baby Welsh Green was getting hungwwwyyyyy.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!"

Maybe his mummy would hear his hungry cries. "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" COME BACK TO THE CAVE, MUMMY!!!!!!!! (AND BRING SHEEP TO EAT!)

SPOILER!!: Tyre Group

It was feeding time and the baby Fireball was getting hungry! And look! SNACKS! "Eeeeeeork!" She squealed with glee, bounding towards the group gathered around the tyre. It wanted a nibble of the brunette first!!!!

Phoebe better not charm Ilya today, he was not in a good mood on a missed opportunity to hang out with his grandmother. Just saying.

He continued following the group, keeping quiet as Louise and the younger Ravenclaw girl shared boring information about the dragon. Whatever. There was more interesting stuff happening around them than this conversation. Like, asking adults to rescue them and then Phoebe panicking over such a small comment. Bahaha. Ilya had a lopsided smile. Also, did anyone notice a hooded figure walking super close to them all of the sudden??? Ilya noticed. He didn't know why or what the figure had done, but it was disconcerting.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yep, yep. "Oh yeah, you'd be deaf if you didn't hear. I think..." Ilya looked backwards where the other students were, but he could not see where the professor was at this time. "... I think it's just the dragon... that we're looking for... although following the sound doesn't sound like such a good idea." He had his wand clutched in his hand. Unlike Ivy, he didn't care if he broke a law if he was trying to save his life! "Let's go back." Was he a coward? Maybe. He was a wise coward, though.

His hair started darkening just slightly...

Atlas heard his portkey partners arrive more so than he saw them, but he did manage a nervous glance around once everyone started shuffling this way and that. His own feet, however, remained planted where he had landed - his feet smaller than his bum print marks in the dirt - and he truly wanted no part in getting anywhere near that Norwegian Ridgeback that was approaching and that his portkeymates seemed keen to scurry closer to.

No thanks. No red shirting today for this Gryffindor. So...looked like this was one first year that wasn't exactly sticking to his group.

Then there were The Hoods™ who had seemed to hear his question and suddenly his blood ran icy thinking that they might do something to him for asking a stupid question or something. But, thankfully, they remained completely silent and just sort of kept lurking like unwanted shadows.

Also that Norwegian Ridgeback needed to stop making cute and amusing noises. He did NOT want to smile right now.

And then...there was a woman making her appearance. A YELLING woman. And she was yelling at Professor Williamson and...oh.

Oh no.

Oh no no no no no.

They hadn't known they were coming? They...they weren't supposed to be here?! Atlas was suddenly mulling over everything the professor had said to him before they had left Hogwarts, searching for a hint of something (ANYTHING) that could maybe have helped him get that this was what was going to happen. All his mind could circle back to was that they were tough...meaning...they had to get through this. Somehow. He had never been so happy to see a patronus though and you couldn't Avada Kedavra a patronus.

Also...Atlas no longer cared about the answer to his question because everything about right now was illegal. Everything. Was there a nice stump somewhere that he could hide behind instead?

His years working for the Russian Ministry combined with the months snatched away by Dark fae had conditioned Andrei Romanos not to question things when called to duty. He had only heard something about a breach at the dragon reservation from their new department head before grabbing a portkey and zipping over along with the rest of the free hands with the Department for the Control & Regulation of Magical Creatures. Clad in dragonhide himself, Andrei quickly vanished his dented soda can of a portkey and dropped his arms to his sides. His fingers curled and coiled into his palm, his instincts already driving him to begin to wandlessly manipulate the air particles surrounding his hands as he had learned to do during his days at Durmstrang with his intensive fire taming and elemental magic studies. He knew his skill would only prove so useful against dragon fire, but he was confident he could at least bend the flame (should any come his way) just long enough for him to roll out of the way.

While he had anticipated chaos in the form of scales, he clearly had not been paying enough attention to the emergency call because the sight of children confounded him. Not just children...but children in Hogwarts robes. He had not been able to contact his two nepoți nor his nepoată all term and it had pained him greatly, especially seeing as it was the boys' first year.

There was a crackling sound as tiny sparks erupted from his left palm and folded in on themselves to create a small gobstone sized ball of flame. What was going on here? Who had sent the patronus?

....and just who were those cloaked individuals?

The unsettling feeling intensified in his stomach and the urge to bark demands was strong, but as a relatively new Beast Protection Officer at the Ministry he did not feel it his place. So instead he jumped into action and took off towards the group of students being approached by a rather ravenous looking young Chinese Fireball. Fingers on his other hand to his lips, the Romanian let out a LOUD whistle in hopes of drawing the beast away from the students. That was his primary objective, after all, protect both human and dragon from bringing harm to one another...though in this case it was much more likely that the Chinese Fireball would be the one causing any damage.

Irithel was about to say something dumb again to the bossy Gryffindor when she realised that ... she couldn't. Her tongue was glued to the roof of her mouth! She clutched her throat and turned around, wide eyes conveying her shock that one of the hoodies heard what she said. She should have known what was coming - she had not been very discreet, after all. If she was not irrationally angry about being forced to stay silent, she would have felt lucky that she was pure-blood, therefore only receiving minimum punishment for stepping out of line. She nodded at Ivy in response to her kind query and continued the climb up to the cave. This dragon field trip was pointless, they were so close to freedom, so close to -

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

- a hungry dragon. Or maybe a sad dragon. How many were there? Were they the Welsh Green? The Ravenclaw would have been curious in normal circumstances, but did not really care at this point. She stopped in her tracks and turned to face the older students. She rolled her eyes at Heath's question, ignored Ivy's because she could not cast spells non-verbally anyway, and gave a half-nod half-shrug at what Ilya suggested. WWW told them to look at dragons and take notes, so he probably thought this was safe. On the other hand, he had been acting really weird this morning, making her doubt everything he said. She glanced back at the hooded figures, wondering what they wanted to achieve. They had followed the students all the way here - surely they would not just let them go back.

. . .

Carson was surprised to be summoned by the Ministry this morning. He had assumed that he was not an official employee until the orientation took place, so his initial thought was that it must be a test to see how quickly he could run errands. Determined to show Ms Bagnold that he was indeed the perfect personal assistant for her, he took a shockingly short amount of time to Apparate to the Ministry and take the lift up to level four ... where he learned that this was a real emergency involving dragons.

Uh???

The 18-year-old was forced to put on fireproof protective wear, and he was still clueless about what was happening when he was whoooooshed away via an emergency portkey to the Welsh Dragon Reserve.

Once he steadied himself, he observed the surroundings urgently. The most obvious problem was that there were too many (more than zero) unsupervised human beings in close proximity to dragons. Trusting and hoping that some experienced dragonologists were coming with him, he jogged toward the children under a large protective barrier. As he approached the group, he identified the dragons above them as Peruvian Vipertooths, possibly tried to get too close at the sight of unfamiliar humans; and strangely enough, he could recognise some of the shaken kids holding pitchforks. They were Hogwarts students! He went to school with them until a few months ago. "What - ?" he gasped, bewildered.

He barely had time to register that some really tall students had their faces completely obscured by their hoods (was it a new fashion trend?), as he moved to stand in front of the people and faced the dragons above them. One hand outstretched to keep the students back and the other hand pointing his wand at the twin dragons, he waited to see their next move.

With a loud PLOP Aurora appeared in the reserve near where Georgia Templeton was having a shouting match with an adult;Williamson wearing what she identified to be Hogwarts faculty attire. The middle aged blond haired witch clad in dragon hide protective gear from head to toe took in the scene with a handful of containment cages at her feet. There were student's here and DRAGONS on the loose and no keepers and some weirdly dressed hooded guys. No wonder Georgia had sent out a distress call to the ministry for assistance. This had the makings of a nightmare. Noting with satisfaction that Andrei was already taking action without being ordered Aurora quickly threw up her own shield over the nearest students being approached by a norwegian ridgeback that looked hungry and playful. "Protego Maxima!"

As soon as he arrived Aurora immediatly barked an order to act to her assistant. "Carson, quickly now! Go protect that group of kids from those vicious looking vipertooth dragons coming from above." Aurora gestured with her wand hand towards the mugglborn kiddoz.

With no other employees having arrived just yet Aurora caught the tail end of what the elder Hogwarts staffer said to Georgia. Alarmed she stepped closer to them both with her wand still in hand and interjected like a bulldozer in their conversation without many pleasantries. "I'm Department Head Aurora Bagnold from the Creatures department of the ministry of magic. What in flaming pheonix feathers is going on here?"
