Default Charms Lesson 1 - Bubble-head Charm

The chilly morning air might've inspired a brisk walk to class, but the temperature inside the charms classroom is warm and inviting. Classical music drifts softly through the room, meant to calm the bodies and minds of students as they settled in. The desks are arranged in their typical horseshoe fashion, though today there is a bucket of water beside each, so be careful when taking your seat. In the center of this horseshoe sits a rather ordinary fish tank, the bottom filled with different colored marbles. Are those the house colors, you ask? Why yes, yes they are.

Professor Peralta is perched on the edge of her desk, flanked on both sides by what appear to be changing rooms. She glances at her watch every now and then, eager to begin.

Please come on in and take your seat, class will be starting shortly!

OOC: Hello friends! Welcome to Charms! Please remember that although this is our first RPed lesson, this is NOT the first lesson the kids would've had with Professor Peralta! Also please familiarize yourself with the Charms Rules and SSRPG Rules before posting! Thank you! Class will be starting in about 15 hours! CLASS HAS ENDED!

Arts TRANSPONSTER!

As usual, some of Catherine's classmates got her nodding her head ever so slightly in agreement, while others made her either roll her eyes or discreetly shake her head - sometimes both, such as the answers provided by certain Gryffindors, but who was surprised?

Also as usual, she chose to remain quiet and simply consider the question and the answers she herself deemed plausible and good enough. It was pretty obvious humans weren't meant to be underwater naturally for a long period of time, and Catherine didn't understand those who would want to do that. Sure, there were fascinating things that could be explored say, in the Black Lake, but it was much safer, comfortable and effective to study these things in dry land, from a book or specimen fetched by someone else. She had no intentions of spending long periods of time underwater any time soon.

The Ravenclaw did, however, consider what spells - Charms, more specifically, given the class they were in at the moment - could help those interested in doing such a Gryffindor deranged task. She supposed webbed-feet could come in handy in one didn't know how to swim very well. Those ridiculous looking flippers some people used did seem to aid the swimming, making people move faster and more ridiculously. Catherine never had to use such a spell she knew existed, so she didn't know the incantation for it. Then again, even if she did know it, she wouldn't have vocalised her idea anyway.

So she shifted her attention back to what her classmates were saying, reacting accordingly.

Its a good thing. Ew Gross. She absolutely did not want her asking getting all prune like to be some benefit it was disgusting. Sighing she listened to the other students making their assumptions of what they could do for staying underwater. Why would anyone want to. Although the more she thought about it the more she wondered how people of Atlantis lived in Atlantis. Maybe she had watched that dumb muggle movie one too many times but she wasn't about to tell their professor that in front of the goon squad.

Oh her turn, "Well like the others have said, there are charms for diving but couldn't you also use some positions brewing and use Gilly Weed like Mr. Potter did in the triwizard tournament years and years and years ago?" Come on that was actually kind of cool, icky but cool.

be curious, not judgmental

Apologetically, Teddy had offered a smile to his sister's best friend Emmerson, who he'd accidentally inconvenienced by taking the last open spot beside Kizzy. Regretful, he was, for he could have moved another seat over and let both Kizzy and Emm sit in between the James twins - but before he could offer such a suggestion, the Gryffindor had opted to sit on the other side of Fifi, and Teddy settled back into his seat, traces of remorse still apparent in his features.

Quietly, he was grateful to Emm - it wasn't often that he got to spend time with Kizzy, whereas Kiz and Emm were still joined at the hip, just as they'd always been growing up - and he made a mental note to do something nice for her later. Make it up to her, maybe. Do something a big brother would do.

The direction the class was going had Teddy intrigued; he spaced out for a little while, considering the buckets within his line of vision beside the desks of his peers across from him. Where were they headed with this?

His hand raised when the theoretical conversation became a bit more useful to him. "Fi mentioned hypothermia - to combat that, you could use the Insulation Charm, Caelum Saepio, to insulate your clothes and retain body heat. The parts of your body that might not be fully covered wouldn't benefit from it, but it'd at least keep your core cozier." Trapping any heat in such conditions would prolong survival.

Oh yes, leave it to Upstead. Upstead will never disappoint, not on that score.

Nem had been about to add that hopefully nobody had poisoned that tank right there, as it seemed likely they were supposed to be going into it. But then they... didn't. Just waited and raised their hand and answered the next question.

"Piggybacking off the Bubblehead Charm," Nem said, lowering their hand again. "There's likely a way to make a larger version of it, create a giant air pocket at the bottom of a large body of water, like a base of operations. Depends what you're going in for, how deep, how much you trust your spellwork to hold, and if you can get yourself in and out, but it would serve temporarily, and the bubble would keep it oxygenated. Not sure about filtering out the poison though." Just, you know, by the way, because they were still addressing that part too. "And if that spell doesn't exist yet, I don't see why it can't exist soon."

That really didn't have much bearing on what Nem had started theorising about the lesson activity, but they didn't particularly care about tailoring it exactly. She'd asked. They'd answered. Sort of.

SPOILER!!: Question 1 catchup
Heath was relieved that Professor Peralta didn’t ask him what was bothering him. IF she had, he wouldn’t have told her. He didn’t want to look weak in front of his classmates, nor did he want his concern for his muggle dad to get her or himself in trouble with Rosier. He was so focused on trying to block out the music and the memories it brought that he almost missed Claudine’s grin. All he could manage in return was a slight smile. As the lesson began, he willed himself to tune out every sound except the professor’s voice, hoping that would be enough to tune out his worries as well.

Difficulties humans encounter in water… His first thoughts went to water pressure and its effects on the humans body, but that had already been said a few times. As he racked his brains for an answer, he recalled a small tidbit of information he’d learned in science class years ago. Something about a kid in another country who died from contracting a brain-eating amoeba after swimming. That was a thing, right? He raised his hand and said, “Some water environments have dangerous microorganisms, like flesh-eating bacteria or brain-eating amoebas.”

As soon as Heath heard the next question, he had a pretty good idea where this was going, but rather than state the obvious, he was going to try to think outside the box. The first thing that came to mind was incomplete forms of transfiguration. One could give themself a shark’s head or octopus’s tentacles to help them survive underwater, but that was transfiguration and this was charms class. Although the professor technically said a spell, not charm, he worried he’d look dumb if he gave that answer so he tried to come up with something else.

The idea of incomplete animal transfigurations got him thinking. Instead of turning into an animal, what if you got a real animal to guide you underwater? He remembered reading something about Animalis Fidelus, a spell to make animals temporarily loyal to a human. Theoretically, one would be able to use that spell to get a water creature to help, right? That answer sounded a little too outside the box! Not feeling particularly confident in either of the answers he came up with for the second question, he stayed silent for now.

Kale promised he was listening sorta kinda maybe, Professor. Honest. But like when she brought up water humans his mind wandered to gills and mermaids. And then he thought about cinematic masterpiece The Little Mermaid. And then his mind went even further to praise actual icon Jodie Benson, aka the voice of Ariel. And then he was like omigod Jodie Benson was also Thumbelina. And so now his mind was thinkin’ on that frog scene from Thumbelina. Y’know the one. The one where they’re like we kidnapped you babe but you’re gonna be a star. Song was a BOP. Actions were questionable at best.

Huh?? Oh yeah. Charms.

What were they talking about again? The fifth year couldn’t remember.

But from context clues they were naming spells. He could do that, too. Kale added, ”Aqua Eructo.” That was about water. #nailedit

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Mind you, she wasn't MAD at Teddy, just put off at the further distance. It came whenever she didn't get her way and was likely to pass but for now, Emmerson managed to somewhat return the boy's apologetic smile. He was a sensitive one, sometimes, and it wouldn't do to make Kizzy think she was being mean to her brother even if she WAS sad about the distance.

But SEE her answer made sense. Emm perked up, all transgressions forgotten because her answer was among the good ones and that made her feel all types of special in the current school climate where nothing seemed right.

Clearly she had this.

Just like she had an answer for the next one, too. "Impervius!" She decided. "Because then no matter how wet you get, you won't actually get wet. You'll be able to walk right out of the water and flash your hair from side to side and have it still bouncing like a goddess come forth in all the muggle movies--is that how they do it in the magic ones, Professor?? I bet it is. That way they can do all the danger scenes but still look good when it's time to kiss the gorgeous co-star."

She'd have to try it sometime.

"I think that's fair to say, yes." Neva nodded her head in agreement. "For those who aren't animagi, there are transfiguration spells that could help such as the Human to Shark spell."

"This is a cool lesson professor, just saying."
Well, that answer certainly painted a picture. "We do, yes, though using such a spell on yourself when you're still in the water might be a bit difficult. Still, healing spells are good to know." Cool, huh? She'd take cool. "I'm glad you're enjoying it, Miss Fox."

Soon it was time for the next question and when she heard it, Cam’s hand shot into the air. She didn’t know a lot of spells, but she knew the perfect one for this particular question. “The bubble head charm”, she said, with just a little too much enthusiasm. “It would be good for someone who wanted to stay underwater for a long time.” Yep, Camryn had been reading..... She was happy that for once, she could answer a question confidently.
She'd been waiting for someone to say this spell, so she smiled when it was mentioned. "Very good. Using the bubble head charm is a way to help humans breathe underwater for prolonged periods of time, though it won't last forever." But they'd be going into more on this in a second.

The most obvious answers to Claudine for the second question were Gillyweed {but that wasn’t a spell} and the Bubble Head Charm as Camryn supplied. The fifth year racked her brain. There was something else the older cousins used while out at the waters… what was it again? Oh yeah.

Hand up, Claudine said, “There are Scuba Spells that can be used.’’
"There are, yes. There are scuba spell courses one can take that will teach these spells, many offered in tourist locations for those looking to get up close and personal with underwater creatures and scenery."

But, there could still be a chance she was devious. Rosier HAD to have been the one to hire her, right?

Back to the lesson at hand; yes, yes, Aboli, thanks for, uh, making Bernie look good. Truth be told, Bernie had done her hair this morning with a brush AND the hot air charm from her wand, so a) she already looked good enough on her own, thanks, and b) she was genuinely thinking more along the lines of what Emmerson had said about make-up getting all melty. Even though Bernie seldom wore much make-up, she DID TRY on her appearance. Sometimes. Like, today she had tried. And wasn't Aboli miss judges-peoples-toenail-polish? So what did she care if Bernie felt like being a flippant teen today?

So...all this was to say that clearly, Bernadette was going to stay on theme with her light and airy answers. There was no point in showing Peralta what she was capable of... yet. Again, just in case she was a secret operative and snitch for Rosier.

The fifth-year raised her hand after Camryn's answer, sweetly stating: "A basic waterproofing spell, again to keep your clothes nice and dry, would go nicely with the bubble-head charm to protect your hair and makeup from becoming ruined underwater."

Peralta hadn't taken Miss Grantham to be so superficial, but you learned something new everyday. Miss Cambridge, well, in her case she wasn't as shocked. "The Impervius Charm can repel water, though there are limitations to this spell and it might not be best for a submerged person during a prolonged period of time." She paused. "But good thinking, ladies."

Other people had covered ways to breathe underwater, so Mamie took a moment to think before she raised her hand. "If you're going to go deep underwater, Lumos could be helpful so that you can see where you're going, and if there's any of the obstacles people mentioned," she said.
"Lumos is a good option for the darker areas underwater, yes." This was a great example of an everyday spell that could be utilized in a potentially dangerous situation. "Good, Miss Turov."

Miss Mordaunt was an interesting one and while Neva wished she'd take a more active role in the discussion, she could clearly see the Ravenclaw was paying attention. She'd take that for now, though she wasn't sure it would serve her well to keep silent in classes where Rosier's followers were present. Luckily for her, that wasn't the case now.

This was an unexpected answer, but one Neva found intriguing. "I have heard instances where larger bubbles have been used, specifically to aid those studying aquatic creatures and plants in certain sections of the sea. But as you've pointed out, this type of spell is only a temporary, so I don't think it has been used for any type of technical base of operation. Honestly, I want to look into this more now. You've piqued my curiousity." Because surely there were ways to modify the charm.

She could see the wheels turning, so Neva was surprised when Mr. Jones remained silent. She offered him an encouraging smile, but passed by his desk and moved on to the next student.

Huh?? Oh yeah. Charms.

What were they talking about again? The fifth year couldn’t remember.

But from context clues they were naming spells. He could do that, too. Kale added, ”Aqua Eructo.” That was about water. #nailedit
................

"Not quite, Mr. Trent." She supposed a jet of water from the wand could perhaps propel you forward if it was strong enough, but no. "Please try and pay attention." She knew it was easier to daydream without the threat of the inquiry team, but it would mean so much to her if he made an effort not to.

Even though Rosier's hooded besties hadn't made an appearance in class yet, Neva couldn't help herself from glancing at the door every now and then as if expecting to find them standing there. She felt a wave of relief each time she didn't. Whatever the reason, the kids deserved a lesson without the added stress of their presence. Tapping the board with her wand, the Charms Professor updated the list with the spells the class had suggested. "As you can see, there are numerous spells in our repertoire that can aid us as witches and wizards in spending time underwater. Some of these spells were obviously not created with this purpose in mind, but that just goes to show that spells are versatile and you should take care to learn them, and practice them. You never know when they might come in handy."

"Miss Quincy touched on the spell we'll be focusing on today. The Bubble-Head Charm, while it isn't limited to underwater use, is a spell that creates a bubble around the caster's head, allowing them to breathe underwater. Like most spells, the charm's success will depend on the caster's magical ability and focus. A more experienced witch or wizard, for example, might be able to cast a bubble-head charm that lasts for a longer period of time than that of a witch or wizard just learning to cast spells." She paused, looking around the room. "And that's okay." In case any of the younger years were starting to panic here. "You'll know when your charm is starting to wear off because the bubble around your head will start to shrink. As this happens, it's a good idea to get to the surface of the water." Something to remember for the main activity.

"The incantation for this charm is Viseo Ebullio" She hoped they were paying attention to the pronunciation. "And the wand movement is a simple counter-clockwise motion around the area you'd like the bubble to appear." Raising her own wand, she demonstrated. "Viseo Ebullio." She walked around the inside of the horshoe of desks, letting the students get a closer look at the bubble she'd created. "To end the charm using a spell, simply use finite."

"Now that we know what charm we'll be using, let's get some practice in. Clear your desks." As they did, Neva helped to guide the big buckets of water onto each desktop, working her way around the room. "I'd like you to practice casting the bubble-head charm on yourself. Once you're confident in your bubble, put it to the test by sticking your head into your bucket of water to ensure you can breathe properly." Honestly? The whole bucket of water thing was just as much for her enjoyment as it was for their practice. "You'll want to be sure you've got the charm down for the next part of class, so I suggest you take the time to really master it." And if they needed help, she was here.

"Once you're satisfied with your ability to cast the charm, please make your way over to the changing rooms and change into one of the wetsuits hanging up inside. Don't worry, they'll shrink to fit your body once on." So no complaints on the sizing, please.

"Go ahead and get started." In the meantime, Neva would be busy working her magic on the fishtank in the center of the room. Was it-was it growing in size? Why yes, yes it was.

OOC: Hi Friends! Moving on to the practice portion of the lesson, so please have your charrie 1) Practice successfully casting the Bubble-Head Charm (Viseo Ebullio) on themselves. Once they're confident in their bubble, they can test it out by dunking their head in their bucket of water to make sure they can breathe! 2) Move into a changing room and put on a magical wet suit (that will change to fit the body's size)! *Behind the curtained off areas are a BUNCH of individual changing stalls. Students can use either side and go into any empty stall to change! Sorry I didn't specify!* You'll have about 55 hours from now to complete this part of the lesson. Please poke me if you've got any questions!

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Ash was relieved that she was safe for at least a little bit of time. She practiced the bubble head charm. Once confident with it, she stuck her head in a bucket of water. It seemed as though her bubble head charm was exceptionally good, but in fact it held for a reasonable amount of time, and after that Ash was just holding her breath to make a point. Eventually she made her way over to the changing rooms. Instead of using the adjustable ones, she put on her own black and blue wetsuit. She felt more comfortable in its familiarity. It made her feel pretty and sleek and comfy and cool and confident. She walked over to the growing tank. She would love to get into the tank. And stay there for a long time. Water was basically Ash's natural habitat. She smiled a little. This lesson was okay, despite the best efforts of the cruel, sadistic universe. And she looked great, which was another bonus.

Quinn watched with intrigue as the Professor used the charm, thinking it was just about the coolest thing ever. Being able to breathe underwater? That's the coolest! Quinn was very very excited for this lesson.

Quinn waved his wand as specified and recited, "Viseo Ebullio." He grinned as the bubble inflated around his head. It wasn't super big, but he was impressed he got it first try nonetheless. Quinn used Finite to disperse te bubble, and then went on to practice it a couple more times. He managed to get it pretty large sometimes, which he was excited about, but other times it was a bit smaller than he wanted. On one particularly large bubble, he decided now was the time to dunk. He slowly submerged his head in the water, and was delighted when he found he could actually breathe. This was the best!!

Quinn was happy with his proficiency in the charm as of now, so he went over to one of the changing stations. He looked between them... he couldn't see if either was gendered, so he peeked behind the curtain and found several individual stations. Quinn was glad for that—he got uncomfortable changing around other boys. He entered one of the stations and slipped into a wetsuit, and it formed nicely to his body.

This was... his favorite swimsuit he'd ever worn. Swimming was always something he dreaded—he didn't like having his shirt off, but when he wore a shirt while swimming, sometimes other boys looked at him funny. Or asked why he was wearing a shirt. Quinn didn't know, he just... wanted to keep his shirt on. Was that bad?

Quinn stepped out of the changing rooms, giggling as he would inflate a bubble around his head, and then Finite it away, only to bring back another. He found it very amusing.

Violet had practiced the charm (rather successfully, she thought) on herself about half a dozen times, and now was ready to test it. She really hoped she'd done as well as she thought, because after winding up in the pool several times in Flying Class, she was in no mood to get herself wet again. She cast the Aguamenti charm to fill a bucket with water and, mentally crossing her fingers, plunged her head in.

Well, she didn't feel wet--so far so good. She took a tentative breath--no water! She could breath just fine--it worked!!

Very pleased with herself now, Violet raised her head out of the bucket, cast Finite to end the charm, and headed toward the changing rooms.

OOC: Sorry, was offline all weekend, so I'll just insert Violet into class as if she's been there all along.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Claudine knew why Peralta kept looking towards the door. She knew this only because the Slytherin kept nervously looking there ever so often too. Since The Hoods hadn’t showed up as yet, she was hoping that the lesson finished up quickly. What a relief it would be to have a Hood-free lesson.

The girl busied herself by writing her notes on the Bubble-Head Charm. After that was done, her desk was cleared away as instructed. Truthfully, the bucket of water had been forgotten by her until hers was levitated onto her desk. It half amused her that they had to stick their heads into it. Claudine suspected that Peralta might even have a little fun watching them do that.

Anyway.

Down to practice.

“Viseo Ebullio.’’ As usual, Claudine recited the incantation with determination and command. At the same time, the counter clockwise motion around her head was drawn out with the wand. The bubble-like substance immediately emerged. Would it be good enough?

The girl dunked her head into her bucket, taking a deep breath just before doing so.

You know… just in case the bubble was defective.

The longer they went without a specific dark presence, the more it felt like normal school. Lilith was ACTUALLY enjoying class. Even if that meant dunking her head into a bucket of water. She was familiar with the charm. Not only because she had already practiced it at Ilvermorny, but because it was the charm her dad would use on them whenever they went swimming in a private little lake they had back home.

Charming her hair up into a ponytail, Lilith recited the enchantment to herself. It’s been a while since she’s used the charm. And her magic was slowly being impacted by stress. It was no good. Lilith thrived where there was light and life. Hogwarts was not a place of light and life. It was dark and dangerous.

Lilith shook her head and snapped herself out of that thought. She would enjoy this lesson as much as she could.

“Viseo Ebullio,” she recited. The wand movement came separately. This one time at Ilvermorny, Lenny, a reckless Wampus, had cast this same charm, thinking they were the best. The bubble almost choked him out like saran wrap over his face. True story.

Default Question! A nonimportant one!!!
A Poop * k8 *

Aboli had sooooo called it. As did anyone with a BRAIN, she thought. The bubble-head charm! SO COOL. Aboli thought it was one of the most important charms they could learn here at school! Such a dead useful spell to have in the back pocket! Aboli was also trying to master all the spells she learned this term nonverbally, so she would be excited if she was able to master this spell quickly in class today. That would mean she'd be able to practice later doing it all... ~nonverbal.

But then she heard they needed to put on a WET SUIT? She raised her hand, her brows furrowed in..............concern. "Professor?" she asked, and she gestured her over so she didn't have to ask the question LOUD. "Will the wet suits be....tight fitting?" She crossed her arms in discomfort. She LIKED how loose the robes fit...that was going to be SO AWKWARD with all the...YOU KNOW, OTHER PEOPLE PRESENT.

Since when do YOU care, Aboli?! she thought to herself. She supposed she rarely felt self conscious about herself in the physical sense that often, but there were rare moments where she did feel very...shy. Blegh.

Now was one of those times. She didn't feel comfortable with most of these students. Could she wear a t-shirt???? Over her wetsuit?

Neva moved towards Aboli, curious to see what she wanted to talk about that she couldn’t ask out loud. ”Yes?” Of all the questions she could’ve asked, the charms Professor hadn’t expected that one. She softened some, lowering her own voice. ”They won’t be overly so, I promise. More modest than wearing a swimsuit.” And they would keep the children warm and dry, which was important. ”However if you find that you’re uncomfortable after putting yours on, please let me know.”. She offered a reassuring smile and then moved back to work on the tank.

Valencia was actually pretty confident in her bubble-head charm. It was a very useful spell and fun for snorkeling type adventures. She did however want to get casting it out of the way pretty quickly to watch other students try their hand at it. She had a feeling it would be somewhat amusing and she was starved of that as of late.

The Ravenclaw then cast a quick "Viseo Ebullio" with a counter-clockwise motion around her head. She then dunked her head into the water with no hesitation. Perfectly waterproof, as expected.

Now. Was there a first year about to spill water all over the place she could watch before getting changed?

Default Question!
Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE!

Mamie was not about sticking her head in a bucket of water, bubble-head charm or not. But...it seemed there was no alternative, so she practiced the wand motion once--counterclockwise was like "lefty loosey", she remembered her Mama telling her once. Her family only had digital clocks. Yeah, that was fairly easy.

Mamie did the counter-clockwise circle around her head, carefully pronouncing the charm. "Viseo Ebullio."

Now she had to dunk her head into the bucket. No big deal, if it worked. She took a deep breath, held it, and stuck her head in the bucket. Diiiid it work? Mamie opened her eyes, then let out a little air. No bubbles. It worked!!! No more drowning hazards, she could breathe underwater now!! She'd be able to swim an entire lap of the pool underwater with--ahhh, gross, water in her nose.

She yanked her head out of the bucket, sputtering a bit. Apparently her charm wasn't strong enough for a whole lap of a pool, or even for some self discovery. Still, it could be helpful if something smelled really bad.

Although...she wondered...and raised her hand. "Professor?" she asked. "Would it work for breathing underwater, if you were already underwater when you cast it? Or like, if you cast it because something smells bad, is the air inside the bubble the bad smelling air or good, fresh air?" She had to know. It was important for whether this spell would be useful in an unexpected situation.

Ohh, the Bubblehead Charm! Delilah had remembered reading about this one and thinking about how awesome it sounded. It made her kind of nervous thinking about trusting it while deep underwater, though. It was an exciting kind of nervous, though, and she was anxious to try it out! Wait...wetsuits?! So they were really doing this?! Awesome!

Delilah cleared desk and waited for the big bucket of water to be deposited on it. When it was there, she started practicing. "Viseo Ebullio," she said, trying out the incantation. "Viseo Ebullio!" She was pretty sure she could accomplish the counter-clockwise turn without having to practice it, so she skipped that part.

Ready to move on to the next step, she put it all together. "Viseo Ebullio!" she said, but the his time, she paired it with the counter-clockwise motion. A small bubble appeared around her head. It shrunk the second it appeared, though. Predictable. She tried it again with a little more focus. "Viseo Ebullio!" This time, when she made the counter-clockwise motion, a pretty decent sized bubbled appeared around her head. Not wanting it to shrink before she had time to test it out, Delilah plunged head into the bucket. She felt herself breathing normally, and along with it, felt the bubble shrinking again. Delilah removed her head from the water.

She practiced it a few more times before feeling like this was about as good as it would get for this lesson. She didn't expect to be an expert after one lesson. Delilah headed over to the changing rooms and put on one of the magical wet suits. Weird. She'd never worn anything like this before.

Phoebe was properly motivated to get this spell right on the very first try, considering she was going to have to dunk her head in that bucket of water and potentially drown her hair. What did the bubble charm do to her hair, anyway? Would it smush it a bit, especially when it started to shrink?

"Viseo Ebullio," Phoebe drew a circle in the air around her head, and then she wondered if she would even be able to tell if she had a bubble. It was see-through, right? She patted around her face, and her hands touched her cheeks immediately. So that was a no, then? "Viseo Ebullio," she tried again, this time focusing all of her formidable will toward creating a bubble that would save her hair and save her life.

BUBBLE.

She was glad Professor Peralta was so chill. And nice. And, clearly, understanding.

Aboli nodded up at her. "Thank you," she said softly back. Her facial features softened as her worry shrank, and she felt better prepared to start the actual practicing of the spell.

She said the incantation to herself a few times, getting a hang of passing it around her mouth easily before doing the wand motion. Theeeen put it all together and what do you have? Bippity boppity - VISEO EBULLIO!

"Viseo ebullio!" she pointed her wand at her quill, trapping it in a bubble. Coooool! She poked the bubble a few times before reverting it away and doing it again.

And again.

And really...again.

So it wasn't too difficult a spell to do on something that was NOT her head. But now she needed to try it around herself. "Viseo Ebullio!" she cried, doing the clockwise motion around her head*

Bernie agreed with Aboli, she really really did. Everyone knew wearing a wetsuit was like wearing Catwoman's all-leather outfit. She wrinkled her nose at the thought, and although she wasn't opposed to seeing SOME people in the class put one on, she didn't want to wear a wetsuit herself.

Couldn't they just practice two spells today, impervius, like Emmerson had said, AND the bubble-head charm? Then they could keep their school robes on and no one had to worry about a darn thing. Bernie was just in a MOOD. She didn't want to do ANYTHING. She wasn't paying attention to the spell and she wasn't getting up yet, to be sure, because she was in no rush to change or dunk her head or anything like that. So she lazily pointed her wand at herself and cast in a lazy swirl that looked a bit like an e,

"Ebublio," nice and loud.

A big, very big bubble began to form around Bernadette, lifting her out of her chair and above the desk. "HELP," the fifth year mouthed/yelled, not sure at all of the thickness of this levitating bubble. She felt a panic rising as her self-contained bubble rose higher and higher.

"I DID IT WRONG."

For a few moments, Nem just sat in place, considering the bucket of water that sat in front of them on the desk, eventually glancing up in Peralta's direction. A few seconds longer, and they pushed their chair back decisively, and got to their feet.

"Professor," Nem said, shouldering their schoolbag and approaching the woman, accidentally shouldering Grantham's bubble as they passed. "Sorry Berns." Anyway. Peralta. Nem stood and leaned casually to one side, subtly pressing their fingertips on the nearest desktop for support. "Professor Peralta, could I go and see Healer Recard? I'm feeling a bit light-headed. Probably not a good idea to for me to mess around with this charm right now." They already had a decent enough handle on the spell too, so at least stepping out early wouldn't be detrimental. But yes, the light-headedness. Oh, so dizzy.

It was no secret that Kinsay James loved water, especially the ocean. That was her favorite. That’s why family beach trips were the best kinds. So even though it was hard to pay attention in class, Kinsay was trying extra hard today, pushing herself up on her knees and leaning over her desk with all sorts of eager enthusiasm. It also helped that Professor Peralta was so nice. Made this year feel a little less miserable.

And even though Kizzy had very little confidence in her ability to get the spell right, she still listened carefully as their Professor went through the demonstration and leaaaaaaaned over to get a good look at her bubble. That looked so neat, if only Kinsay could make one for herself all proper like that. When it was time to clear off their desks, the first year made quick work of going about the task. She didn’t like taking notes anyway, so there wasn’t a whole lot to put away.

Because she didn’t want to look silly, she waited to start practicing on her own and instead took the time to look around at everyone else. She'd try her spell once the rest of the class looked busy working on their own bubbles.

O____O

UM.

Something looked wrong with Bernie’s bubble!!! At first, Kinsay was filled with worry, but then she remembered how horrible and awful Bernie is. So then Kiz wanted to laugh... but because Kinsay James is incessantly polite… she ducked her head and giggled quietly instead.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Fiona was familiar with the Bubble-head Charm due to the fact that whenever her parents and her would visit her cousin Lucille, her cousin would perform the charm so they could enjoy diving under the water of Lucille's large indoor swimming pool. However, Fiona hadn't actually performed the spell on herself so a little bit of practice was needed.

"Viseo Ebullio,"
Fiona repeated to herself in order to get the pronunciation correct. She then practised the precise wand movement without the incantation. Fiona then decided to perform the complete spell.

"Viseo Ebullio!" Fiona cast as she moved her wand in a counter-clockwise direction around her head. Within seconds, a bubble had formed around her head.

Fiona held her wand by her side as she plunged her head into the bucket of water. She breathed a sigh of relief when she realised that the spell had worked.

Oh dear.

”Maybe practice a few more times outside of the water before dunking again.” Unless she liked the whole sputtering thing. That was fine too. Whatever floated her boat. ”I can say confidently that your best course of action is to create the bubble around your head before entering the water for best results.” Although if she wanted to test the theory, she could certainly try. Neva wouldn’t advise it, though. ”And the charm would certainly help provide clean air for breathing in a situation where the air around you had become poluted.” That answered her questions, yes?

Oh, so dizzy.
...There was always one.

Neva approached Miss Grantham’s bubble with a hint of a smile on her face, pausing to address the Slytherin in her path. A sudden dizzy spell, huh? How awful. ”Of course you can.” She paused. ”I’ll be sure to check in on you and Healer Recard after class just to be sure you’re alright.” They could go now.

Back to the problem at hand. ”It’s alright, I’ve got you.” The charms Professor navigated the bubble back towards the ground with ease, putting an end to the Gryffindor’s spell as soon as it touched the floor. ”Perhaps you’d better pay more attention, hm?” Lucky class hadn’t been outside. No telling how far the wind might’ve carried her.

”Remember everyone, the incantation is viseo ebullio! Keep up the good work! Go on, Bernie. Try again.
