Default Stack of Barrels

In a nook on the right-hand side of the basement corridor stands a large stack of barrels. To most students, such a sight might seem unimportant. However, to those who were sorted into Hufflepuff, these barrels are invaluable. Concealed behind one of these barrels is the entrance to their common room, which has not been seen by a student belonging to another house in over a thousand years.

Of course, anyone is welcome to attempt accessing the sanctum of Helga Hufflepuff. You only need to tap the barrel two from the bottom, in the middle of the second row, in the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff.' Any member of the loyal lady's house will be able to do this with their eyes closed and get the lid to swing open and expose a crawl-way, but anyone else will find themselves in a sticky situation. If the wrong lid is tapped or the rhythm done incorrectly, you will instantly be doused with vinegar and barred from accessing the common room. With that said, tap carefully.

What had been an excellent day so far was turning out to be a bummer quickly. Gemma was all excited to get all her homework done and all her lessons done to hangout with some friends only to find herself alone in the corridor. She hadn't found a single friend while she was out looking and now she felt like just giving up.

Headed towards the barrels she was just about to head into the common room when something caught her eyes. It was something shiny and it was down in between two of the barrels. Now it was most likely an earring or something, but who was Gemma if she wasn't someone who tried to help others out, so down on her knees she went to try to get the mystery object.

Ivy was headed back to the common room, finished with practicing some charms in one of the empty classrooms. It had been a pretty okay day. She was happy she’d be able to spend time outside again soon. She thought winters were bad back home, but it was nothing compared to here. Coming upon the barrels, she spotted a girl on her knees trying to get to something. Curiosity getting the better of her, she came closer to see it was Gemma. Standing over her, she tried to see what the girl was trying to get to. ”What are you doing?” she asked from somewhere over Gemma’s head.

She was really pushing her hand in between the barrels and not really paying attention to anything else. So when Ivy came up behind her she didn't even notice, it wasn't until she heard her that the second year jumped a bit. "There is something in between these and I wanted to get it out."

She was just about to pull out her hand when she made a face and starting tugging frantically. "Stuck.... stuuuuuuuck..... stuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!" Her arm was stuck where she had pushed it into the barrels and now she could care less about the object, she just wanted her arm out.

Ivy just blinked at Gemma’s explanation, and for someone who had grown up as a Muggle with no instinct to use magic, the obvious easiest solution came to her rather quickly. ”Why didn’t you just use magic?” she asked, not in any way condescending, just genuinely wondering why she would have chosen the hardest possible route.

But then Gemma started saying she was stuck, and Ivy looked around in a panic. There was no one else around, and she didn’t know what to do. Running forward, she tried to push one of the barrels, but the girl was barely 70 pounds soaking wet in a fur coat. There was no way she was going to be able to move it. ”Okay... okay just... just don’t panic!” she said, doing her best to sound calm.

Think. Thiiiiink.

Why hadn't she used magic? What hadn't she, to be honest Gemma didn't even think about it. "I noticed it and just jumped down to grab it. It didn't seem that far away to be honest. It wasn't until I had my arm in that I realized it was further than I thought." She almost wondered if her eyes played tricks on her and there really wasn't something there, but no, she had touched it.

Trying really hard to pull her arm out she tugged and tugged until she whimpered from pain. "It's really stuck." She tried to think of ways to get out. "Do you have any butter or know a charm to move these?" Know her housemate was a first year she wasn't sure if the girl would know one or not, if she had neither Gemma was afraid she'd have to wait until an older student or an adult came.

Ivy was preparing to run for assistance when she suddenly smacked herself in the forehead. ”Oh Ivy! You idiot!” she said, turning back to Gemma and taking out her wand. ”Don’t worry, Gemma! I can get you out!” She was perhaps a little more cheerful than the situation warranted. With a swoosh and flick, she said, ”Wingardium Leviosa!” And one by one, she moved the barrels until she finally dislodged one that was keeping Gemma’s arm pinned in.
