 A maze of thousands upon thousands of books, the library is heaven to any book-lover. Upon entering the high-ceilinged room, the smell of books, both ancient and new, hits you. There are many tall, narrow shelves neatly lined up, each divided into different sections -- charms, potions, Muggles, fiction, and so on. If you find a book you're interested in, simply make use of the sliding ladder or summon the book with Accio to retrieve it.
But the library just isn't a labyrinth of books. In the heart of the library and on the outskirts of it are tables and seating areas designated for quiet research and reading, some with accompanying fireplaces or large stained glass windows. Tucked away in the very back of the library is the Restricted Section, which requires a key that the librarian keeps on his person at all times and permission to enter because of the more mature titles and content that are tightly locked and chained within. At the entrance stands the front desk where the school librarian can usually be found, who will happily recommend a book, check out a book for you, and help you with any of your library needs.

Valencia, of course, headed to the library the first moment she got. She'd read through most of the books she'd picked up over the summer (already) and was itching for more things.
As always, she headed first for the magical theory section. Then she'd check out the history section, then runes. She was a creature of habit. Then she'd stop by to visit with the librarian and see if there were any new arrivals she should know about.

Ashley sat alone in the library. She was supposed to be researching trolls and also defensive charms(especially shield charms) and also writing a letter, but she just couldn't concentrate. She thought about her lessons so far. She enjoyed care of magical creatures, but in defence against the dark arts she was sure the headmaster was doing some power plays by giving people detention and extra homework on the first day. That's why she needed to know about shield charms. She quickly read about shield charms, then she did it again, then she read it slowly, sighing loudly and repeatedly. "Shield charms, defensive magic, trolls, etc." She muttered quietly to herself. She took careful notes, hoping she could teach herself or learn quickly. Ughhh. This was boring. | |

The castle and grounds were, don’t get her wrong. But it was the people (adults) in it that made it dwindle down for Kennedi. She no longer was impressed.

The books! Neddie's heart jumped in worry the books might have been damaged or hurt in anyway. It was her stomach that sank allllll the way down to the dungeons when she realized it attracted attention. "I...I..." She wasn't okay. Not one bit. Instead she said, cheeks bright pink in frustration, "I'm fine. I didn't see the chair there. Are the books okay?"
It was when the older girl spoke to her that Neddie's eyes glazed over and her bottom lip trembled only slightly. "I really needed them," she said quietly, careful her voice wouldn't crack. "And I haven't checked them out. And...and I don't want anyone to think I'm stealing them."
The extendable bag idea was a brilliant idea, of course. Neddie hadn't thought about it, but it was something she'd definitely keep in mind next time.

Ivy had so much homework, plus she wanted to do some studying ahead. She was kind of tired never knowing the answers in class when almost everyone else always seemed to. She dropped her heavy bag down on the table and began organizing her materials by subject. She figured she’d just work her way through everything that way, and maybe by the end of the day she’d be all caught up! Then she needed to find somewhere she was allowed to practice her spell work...

When Ivy heard a boy’s voice speaking in her general direction, she looked up from what she was doing and returned his smile with a small one of her own. Tucking her long dark hair behind her right ear, she nodded. ”Um... yes... I want to get my homework finished and then study ahead. It kind of seems like everyone always knows more than me in classes, and the Headmaster kind of yelled at me in Charms sooooo... yeah.”
Taking out her quill and ink, she rolled out the parchment she’d been writing an essay on. It was just about finished. Just another inch or so. ”I guess I should I have done more reading before I got here, but I didn’t want to make my mom sad. She’s a squib, and it’s just me and her, and I mean she’s really happy that I’m a witch and everything but I think it also makes her a little sad...”

She’d just had such a hard time making friends, so maybe it was nice just having someone to talk to. ”School is weird here...” she said quietly. ”At home, I never had to answer questions and stuff in class. I don’t really like... talking. Especially in front of people. Here, though, they really want you to, and so I try to answer, and I’m almost always wrong and look stupid,”.
Thinking about her mom sent a familiar pang of homesickness through her, and she had to fight back the instant tears threatening to come out. ”Yeah, we’ve never really talked about it I guess. Her brother and sister both had magic, and so did her parents. I just feel like... like she probably grew up feeling really left out. I don’t want to make her feel that way again. She’s, like, the best mom ever!” Suddenly remembering something, she bent down to the floor and came back up with a large box. ”Look what she sent me! It got delivered this morning!” Opening up the box, it was a colorful display of candy and sweets from Muggle America along with some bags of Flaming Hot Cheetos. ”Do you want some? I’m Ivy, by the way!”

The only subject he was incredibly good at was Care of Magical Creatures. If he was wrong in other classes it didn't matter, that's why he was here. To learn. Lukas raised an eyebrow at her curiously. "You don't have to answer questions here either... well not unless you are specifically called upon." Otherwise she could remain quiet if she choose to do so and simply take notes.
Oh, dear Merlin help him, she wasn't going to cry, was she? He swore he saw what looked to be tears filling her eyes. Seeing a girl cry was something he hated. It always made him feel horrible even if he had nothing to do with it. He was pretty sure it had something to do with him having a bunch of sisters, cousins and nieces. "It probably was really tough for her but she's grown now and you shouldn't have to try to hide who you are. You have magic and you're always going to have magic." Not talking about it wasn't going to help anyone.

It always made him feel horrible even if he had nothing to do with it. He was pretty sure it had something to do with him having a bunch of sisters, cousins and nieces. "It probably was really tough for her but she's grown now and you shouldn't have to try to hide who you are. You have magic and you're always going to have magic." Not talking about it wasn't going to help anyone.

Ivy just gave a small shrug at his so. She didn’t really know why she cared so much about what everyone thought about her. Generally she didn’t really like being around most people anyway, so why did it matter if she wasn’t some super popular smart girl. ”Thanks, I’ll try not to be so hard on myself about not knowing stuff,” she agreed. Though, she was already here in the library all determined so she might as well just keep doing what she had intended to do.
Talking about her mom made her too sad, so instead of continuing to think about it, she just gave him a small smile that turned a little disappointed that he didn’t want to share her snacks. ”You sure? There’s lots of stuff besides Cheeto’s. There’s twinkies and candy bars. There’s even some kool-aid if you’ve got a jug of water!” Lukas... that was a cool name. ”Lukas? Not Luke?” she confirmed. Lots of boys back home were named Lucas but went by Luke instead.

Digging into the box, she pulled out several chocolate bars for him to choose from. When he said he could make water but didn’t have anything to put it in, she laughed. It was a good sound, light and girlish and something she hadn’t done much since coming to school. ”Well, I don’t think we can make koolaid without something to put the water in, otherwise we’d just be making a mess!”

One of his favorite spots to practice spells was in the comfort of his dorm room. It was usually quiet in there and he could practice all he wanted. Another good place was anywhere out on the grounds as long as not too many people were very close by. "Nope, if that was the case it would be awfully difficult for everyone of us to master all the spells that we need to know." The ratio of students to professors was rather large and a professor can't always be present to sit around and watch every single student learn every single spell. How to get into the kitchens was one thing his older siblings and cousins DID tell him how to do. Most of the other hidden Hogwarts secret hideouts they had told him he had to find for himself!
