 If you are eager to see, be seen, and get to London first, then the front passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what your summer plans, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by exchanging addresses, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

Eager to get home? Yes!
Irithel was one of the first students aboard the Hogwarts Express. She had finished packing the previous evening, so she could leave the dormitory as soon as she was dressed. A typical twelve-year-old girl would give all her roommates a tight hug, promise to write over the summer, cry a little ... but not Irithel. She was too happy to get away from school, and was never a sentimental person anyway.
The bracelets on her wrist clinked against each other as she tried to stop her cat from wiggling out of her arms. She walked down the long corridor in the front cars and easily found an empty compartment. Sliding open the door, she let Potato (the cat) down on a cushioned seat and sat beside him by the window. With one last glance at the castle, she pulled down the blinds and crossed her arms. She was annoyed by a couple of things: 1) after one year, she learned that Hogwarts is more dangerous than fun, 2) she never found out what happened to the forest - was it very damaged? was it restored magically? 3) she lives in Scotland, why did she have to go all the way to London and come all the way back?? This was so dumb. She huffed and stared at the vacant seat in front of her.

Ashley took an compartment far back and sat listlessly with her head pressed against the window. Could this train hurry up already? She didn't want to miss her flight. Also, she was eager to get away from Hogwarts and Trent. She petted her cat, her mind far away. Just a few more hours and I can finally be free, and stand beside people I know won't betray me. Well I guess I have friends here. Maybe one of them will come here. But at Hogwarts there was Trent, fire, evil ghosts, and giant spiders, and Ashley wasn't sure that friendship could make up for those things. She suddenly realize that her friend was in fact on the train. Awkward. She nodded. "Hello Irithel. Excited for the summer?"

"Hi, Ashley. Yep, I guess you can say that," she said with a shrug. She was not exactly EXCITED for summer, but it was much better than staying at school. Not only would she be safe from possession and an evil headmaster, but she would also be free from homework (yay). But she did not have exciting summer plans yet. "What about you? You said you're going back to Australia, right?"

A year ago, she had no idea what "surfing" means. After hearing Ashley talk about "surfing" for some time, Irithel looked up the word in a Muggle Studies reference book and learned that it is a dangerous but exciting water activity. Amazing how Muggles think of spending their summer! "But isn't it cold in Australia right now?" she asked, remembering a piece of information from Astronomy class.
"I think you should set your bar for fun higher. It's the summer holiday after all - you should try to do lots of REAL fun stuff. I'm going mountain climbing and camping with my brothers. And then I'll persuade Dad to let me be homeschooled." See? Fun fun plans.

The older Nem got, the easier it became to secure an empty compartment, even when said compartments were all occupied. Or potentially occupied. They didn't know, there had been no point traipsing down the train when they could grab one of the first they found, occupant or no. Let the record show that Ezra was way more useful when he was nowhere in sight.
Lounging across the seats, with their head resting on a bunched up jacket by the window, Nem had one foot up on the seat, while the other dangled below them. These growth spurts were no joke; it was getting harder and harder to slip unobtrusively into small spaces, or go unnoticed in a crowd, but they made up for it by staying narrow. Mostly helped by growing so fast, having no time to fill out, and quite frankly looking as though they'd been stretched out. There were still plenty of places someone like them could find a way into.
Nem huffed a forceful through their nose, and looked up from their book as more voices floated into the compartment, kid voices going on about who cared what. The door had slowly slid its way open, so Nem reached their dangling foot over, pushed it shut again, and held it there while they drew their wand and stuck it closed. There.
They returned to the book, but kept their wand in hand, twirling it deftly over their fingers. If Pax rocked up, they'd open it up for her. Maybe Ez too, but it was unlikely he'd come here, even if the compartment had ostensibly been procured for his benefit.

She did not have many friends, so she would feel lonely if she ended up staying at home. She was really starting to have mixed feelings about the decision to be homeschooled ... Like Ashley, she tried to ignore her feelings like she always did. "Oh, like exploding lemonade. Yes, it uh, has some side effects," she nodded. She was not entirely sure what the effects were, because she was never allowed to order it at restaurants. The Muggle alternative seemed safe to consume. Ashley was not floating or visibly harmed in any way. She nodded and reached into her own bag for the snack box that she always carried with her. "Yeah, thanks. And I have some bagels that I made last night. Do you want one?"
