HOGWARTS - Staff and students alike will not be returning to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry come September 1st. Reports have confirmed that, at the point of this article, all attempts to clear the castle of the ominous mist have failed. This strange phenomena settled on the castle’s grounds sometime back in early November. From then, it forced the castle’s residents further inside until a mass evacuation was put underway. The school year ended in the small village of Hogsmeade, just outside the school. With the term now behind them, Headmaster Malachi Trent has confirmed the new school year will not find them in the highlands of Scotland.

“The castle isn’t in any sort of shape to be lived in and it’s certainly not the place to get an education, not at the moment and not with such high stakes. The school’s Board of Governors is still working closely with the Ministry but until it can be cleared away, our hands are tied,” said the Headmaster.

Despite the grim outlook for the new school year, there is a small ray of hope. Following a meeting over at the Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France, Headmistress Giselle Demarais of Beauxbatons has agreed to house the students and faculty of Hogwarts for the coming 2099-2100 school year. The Headmistress has asserted that preparations have already begun to receive the extra students and staff.

“Headmistress Demarais has been most gracious in the face of this unexpected terror. I look forward to working with her and providing a new experience for the students.”

The students of Hogwarts will travel by Beauxbatons’s abraxan drawn carriages on September 2nd, allowing the French school to transport its own students on their scheduled date of September 1st. Change of location aside, the Headmaster does not see this having too much of an impact on the students or their learning and says he’s optimistic about the year ahead.

Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry, states that he fully supports the Headmaster’s decision. In communication by portrait since the mist engulfed Hogwarts in March, Hollingberry regrets that the Ministry is unable to provide any concrete answers at this time even after the Department of Environmental Regulations and Protection was deployed. “What Environmental encountered there is unprecedented. The reports received, including a first hand account by my incredibly gifted grandson, up to then referencing petrifying hallucinations only but nothing physical like our investigation discovered. We can confidently say that this is no weather phenomenon as previously suspected and will be sending a second investigation team involving multiple departments very soon.”

Hollingberry admitted with much reluctance that the Ministry had failed in recovering two Hogwarts students who had gone missing back in March. “We are not giving up. We will bring those two home.”

The Minister further elaborated on the Ministry’s efforts to contain the situation, noting in particular the vigorous attempts being performed by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in the recovery and safe containment of all those creatures who fled Hogwarts’s grounds and the Forbidden Forest. With sightings of ‘unnaturally enormous spiders’ being reported by muggle news sources as far away as Scrabster and other numerous accounts of other ‘unusual’ sightings across the United Kingdom, the Ministry is working around the clock for the safety of these creatures and the protection of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy.

On habit, he was about to knock his fork against the goblet but a side glimpse of the French woman had him thinking twice. Clearing his throat, Trent slowly lowered the goblet and fork, suddenly remembering that part of his courtesies. Instead, he cast a sonorus on himself. This worked too.

"Attention. Attention everyone. Attention." He waited a moment for the chatter to die down before continuing. "Welcome to the start of term feast. I'd like us to take a moment to thank our gracious host for allowing us to spend the year in this castle while the ministry works hard at recovery for Hogwarts." Another pause, this time to lead a round of applause. Gratitude never hurt anyone.

"I imagine the journey was a long one and you must all be hungry so I'll keep this brief. There will be no more inappropriate and disgraceful behaviour this term. That stunt by young Maximus Vindictus is not to be repeated. You'll act like the well mannered and civilized students I know you to be." Even if they didn't know they were. As Headmaster, it was his job to see the potential. "If not, actions have consequences. Let's keep that in mind. Treat this castle, as you would our own--better than how you would treat our own because it's on loan and as guests, we'll not allow our host to regret her decision. It's the small courtesies. I'm not asking for the impossible, simply your best behaviour--which you should be on anyway." Like the GREAT STUDENTS he'd told Desmarais that they were. Such amazing students that would not let him look bad like some had already started to do.

"Observe all school rules, they apply to you as well. Be mindful of the fact the castle will be hosting at least twice its usual capacity. Don't be selfish, be respectful in shared spaces. Let's all play nicely." As nice as could be expected. "This year, Gryffindor you will be housed with Papillionlisse. Ravenclaw, you will share a common room with Ombrelune. Hufflepuff, you will be with Bellefeuille. Slytherin...." How...how did he....how was he meant to...."You've been given separate accommodations......Professor Fuller-Thompson will clue you in further after the feast." There was just no tactful way of saying Piers had drawn the shortest straw and the snakes would be in the broom closet for the year as a result. Best....best leave that to HIM to announce. Ahem. MOVING ON.

"To those of you who've brought your cats this term, the Headmistress has a strict policy against clawed animals in the castle." Something about ripping all the fine upholstery and leaving fur everywhere. "Your felines," Cats and kneazles alike, "Will be housed out in the creature containment area. You may visit them there, but they are not allowed inside the castle. Any found inside will be sent home immediately and depending on who finds it, maybe you will be, too." Fair warning. While he would have them march the cat back outside, he had no doubt Giselle would pack them up on the first carriage to London within the hour. It was an unnecessary action they were better off avoiding. "Rats will have to remain caged and under proper supervision lest they chew through everything. Owls, as you know, will always belong in the owlery and toads I urge you to keep careful watch off. Crowded castles and squishy amphibians don't tend to mix." HE didn't wanna have to deal with a distraught kid who lost sight of their toad and found it splattered by a stampede of feet on the way to class.

"This year begins a Europe wide health initiative that's being test driven at Beauxbatons. What does that mean for all you? Healthier meals! A bit of extra exercise, a lot more fresh air. All those good and fancy things that none of you are allowed to complain about." Please? Save it? They were all stuck here. They could not change it. It was happening. The end. Complaining just made everyone more miserable and who needed that?

"We have a few changes to our staff line up this term. We'll go from right to left. Taking over the subject of Ancient Runes, we have Professor Jordan Strum. Beauxbatons's Care of Magical Creatures Professor, Mathys de Nostredame, will be doubling up to facilitate our lessons as well. Professor Angela Suxton will fill the Divination position while Professor Andrew Burke will hold Flying. Professor Beryl will be switching to Herbology. Professor Baron Snozz will be taking on History of Magic and Professor Finneas Schmoe will be your new Muggle Studies Professor." More pausing for applause. "I think that about does it. Once we're done eating, your Heads of Houses will lead you to your common rooms. For now, let's eat!" No doubt, if he forgot anything, Desmarais would pipe up.

And with that, plates of food began to appear; the fancy sort you'd expect in a place like Beauxbatons. The healthy stuff as the Headmaster had warned. Steamed vegetables. Smaller plates of fruit pastries. Nothing fried for a certainty. Soups. Wheat bread rolls. The whole nine yards.

Now...um....which was the soup spoon again?

Pfff. But of course there was always one. Eugenia Bonnair. Just as beautiful as she was dull. Aesha’s only noticeable reaction came in the form of curiosity when informed that a member of staff was missing from the table. Curiosity as to why they were missing, but also to know what these temporary measures were. Quality check was an important component of scientific experimentation, as well as for disaster relief.

That’s what they were dealing with.

Now was much too early and there were other, more immediate things to discuss.

"To zose of you 'oo keep looking out at ze Quidditch pitch, zere is no need. Zere will be no quidditch zis term. We cannot accommodate two quidditch cups, flying lessons, full practices for so many teams and adequately maintain ze pitch so we 'ave decided to take ze term off. When you go 'ome, you can 'ave your cup again and we will 'ave ourz." But this was one thing they could not share.

"Come, come! Drink! Enjoy! Staying hydrated iz important!"

Also in the Ombrelune Common Room

The deep blue, satin curtains have been torn down and tossed aside. In their place, sack cloths hang, dingy and stain ridden. Not fit for the standards of Beauxbatons but hanging all the same. The room itself has been ransacked. Cushions thrown about, couches moved from their original positions and scratch or char marks on several pieces of fine furniture.

It’s something the Headmistress would consider a scene right out of a horror movie were she here to witness it and something that will require a lot of cleaning.

Hopefully no one was expecting a peaceful evening.

She herself OPENED HER HOME to them and that Hufflepuff had the nerve...the gall....—and those others. The sappy tales of lies. Looking forward to the ball her butt (pardon her French). Everyone was so quick to assume her students were the ones lying but these students and their fake tears and fake expressions of hurt, did they think she would fall for it?

Well they thought wrong.

In fact, why had she agreed indeed. Why had she subjected herself to those who had such a poor reputation to begin with? At this point, there was only one thing to be done.

“You are right.” She told their Headmaster. On his own, he wasn’t a bad man but he couldn’t see his students for the rotten seeds they were. It left him blind and made him weak. Incompetent. He didn’t have the level of discipline this lot needed and she wouldn’t allow that to soil her school any further. “I am done wiz zhis pointless run around. I am done listening to lies. Mostly, I am done putting up wiz zhe rotten attitudez.” Ojeda had been outright mocking her and no one bothered to acknowledge it. Well. She would. “Get out. All of you. Tonight. You will leave L’Académie de Magie Beauxbatons. I don’t want a single one of you stepping foot back inside zhis castle az long az I am Headmistress. I ‘av ‘it my limit and will not allow you to tarnish anysing elze. Zhat is my final ruling, Malachi and I will ‘ear no more of zhis. Pack your students and GO.”

Ungrateful rats. They had a roof over their heads and more culture in one corner of this castle than Hogwarts contained all over. They had an opportunity for something great and threw it all away. Then they had the nerve to go trying to deny it all and paint her students to be the bad guys. No more if that.

Ze scorch marks and ze pattern ze flames take een all ze dahmages we have see ees far too organic for any wand. None of zese students deed ziss and we should be searching eenstead for a creature stowaway before sings escalate furthair."

So we aren't kicked out after all?

Truly. She would even refrain from making faces when they used the wrong utensils at dinner.

Come the morning, we'll be on carriages back to London and in full summer mode, which I'm sure has many of you, if not excited then positively jumping out of your skins. I know many of you will be taking on summer internships at the Ministry of Magic. I do hope all goes well there and you make full use of the opportunities being provided.

Tonight, we give a special congratulations to Gryffindor, the winners of this years house cup. There had been moments where it was neck and neck and other times when the scores reflected a different champion but in the end, the lions have come out victorious." And he waited a moment for the appropriate applause and whatnot before continuing. "Special mention must also be made of our graduating class. You came to us as eager first years without much of a clue and are leaving here as hopefully better informed and competent witches and wizards prepared to strike out on your own in this world. I'm proud of the efforts you've made and am looking forward to hearing about your many achievements out there." Truly, he was. The man expected great things of all his students.

"I've gotten word that Hogwarts has been cleared of the threat and we will be returning come September. For many of us, it will be nice to be home For our First Years, you'll finally be able to experience the magnificence that is Hogwarts Castle." It was not Beauxbatons Castle but it held it's own charm to be sure.

"But that's enough of me. There's plenty of food, good music and good company here tonight. Do enjoy the ball and try to get enough sleep when you get back to your dorms later."
