Music Classroom

Upon entering this large classroom, it is very obvious what its purpose is. This room is dedicated to teaching Muggle and Wizard Music and is used by members of both the Frog Choir and Orchestra. Instrument cases of all shapes and sizes as well as rows of music stands with accompanying stools fill the inside of this room. In the front, a conductor's stand is positioned in between a polished black piano and a complete drum set.

For many at Hogwarts, students and adults alike, this is one of their favourite places inside the castle. At various hours throughout the day, wonderful music is made and you get to take a break from anything overly theoretical and hone your musical talents. Fortunately for those in Transfiguration or in other parts of the castle, your marvelous melodies cannot disturb them for the room is completely soundproof. So play as loud as you want! This space can also be reserved after scheduled class hours if you and your friends have formed a band and need somewhere appropriate to practice.

While it was true that this was one of Gunnar’s favorite places in the castle, he had a somewhat love-hate relationship with the music room. While he truly enjoyed sitting in front of the baby grand piano and could play for hours if he had the time, he didn't always enjoy sharing the space. There was only one piano here, so that meant that he could only play if no one else was using it, or there was the occasional musician who wanted to duet. And while he was a member of the orchestra, Gunnar much preferred to play the solo pieces.

That wasn't to say that he didn't enjoy an audience. Especially once he mastered a piece and wasn't simply learning it, missed notes and all.

Pleased to see that no one was currently sitting at the piano when he walked, Gunnar headed straight for it and took a seat on the bench. He took a moment to look through the sheet music before deciding what to play.

It was the weekend. FINALLY. And before weekends became about homework and nothing else, Missa wanted to give herself some time with the piano. She had already slacked so much on practise last term, she didn't want to make the same mistake this year.

Dressed in comfortable shorts, the brunette made her way to the upper floors, humming to herself - very much assuming the place would be deserted, because a) it was bright and early, and people liked to sleep and b) wishful thinking.

So, the disappointment showed VERY PROMINENTLY on her face when she stepped inside the music room and there was someone already there.

And on the piano.

What even were the odds.

"....are you almost done here? or just starting?" she asked, as POLITELY as possible.

Perhaps he should have brought his own sheet music. Most of what was already here felt either uninspiring or below his skill level, but honestly, Gunnar was just happy to have time alone to play. He always got used to having the piano all to himself at home over the summer, that it was at times difficult to have to share when he came back at the start of term.

But he found an intermediate solo piece that he hadn't tried before. Didn't recognize the composer name either, but it looked to have an interesting melody as he quickly read the notes in his head.

He had just positioned his fingers on the keys and played the first few notes when he was interrupted by a voice. Stopping abruptly, he turned his head towards the voice, noting it was that girl... one of Chloe's dorm mates, name escaping him.

"I just got here." He matched her polite tone with a polite smile and turned his attention back to the piano, resuming his playing. And he wasn't going anywhere any time soon. He wouldn't mind if she wanted to stay and listen though, but he wasn't about to play any duet or anything like that.

Ugh.

WHY.

Leaving didn't seem like an option though - she didn't want to come back to someone else in here, so quietly she took a seat behind him. "I guess I'll wait then" she said, smoothing down her skirt. There, now he had an audience too.

Gunnar guessed that she'd be waiting too, because he wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon. And no, her presence behind him didn't prompt him to hurry through his own time so she could get her turn faster. He would still play till he was done and she could have the privilege of listening. He was a great pianist, after all.

And play he did. It was an unfamiliar piece, but he caught onto it quickly, being skilled in reading the music, his fingers soon flowing over the keys.
