Kitchen

https://s26.postimg.cc/vyaxb8xp5/kitchen-banner.jpg
Once you've tickled the pear and turned the knob, the Hogwarts kitchen will be revealed to you. Located directly beneath the Great Hall, the kitchen is a high-ceilinged room with five identical tables to the ones in the dining room above. Unlike the room situated above however, heaped around the walls are large quantities of pots and pans. On one end of the room are shelves of plates and utensils, stoves, sinks, and a large brick fireplace.

Here numerous house-elves are working on the castle's next meal when they aren't tending to their other duties as employees of the school. The team of house-elves have specific assignments to accomplish inside the kitchen, whether it is to cook, wash the plates and cutlery, keep the pantry stocked, place more wood into the fire, or set the tables before everything is summoned to its exact replicas overhead. Though the house-elves are incredibly busy, they will surely serve you a snack ... if you aren't asking Algamus. Or you can, of course, make your own food. Just don't leave a mess behind!

OOC: Please do not role-play for the House-Elves.

Everything looked to be in order. That's what Alice thought to herself as she tickled the pear and walked into the kitchens. The house elves were minding their business and the kitchen looked as clean and orderly as it would ever be.

"House elves!" the professor called out in a loud but not angry tone. She waited with her hands crossed behind her back for one or two of the house elves to come and see what she wanted.

a timeline without professor lady - for felix

It was late, and he ought to be getting ready for bed but Maxie had missed dinner that evening - there had been no accident, no mishap, just a very good book and a lot of misplaced time - and that meant the growing boy was rather ravenous. His stomach was shaking, not rumbling, with hunger as he walked through the kitchens in search of something very good to eat.

Usually late night kitchen raids meant waking up one of the suits of armor and having something prepared, but not here. There were house-elves, of course, but it wasn't the same for many reasons. Tugging on his pajama sleeves, Maxie's feet padded softly as he walked through, peering here, and there into cabinets and drawers. Sandwich stuff. Bread, and biscuits, but no jam or jelly to tempt him.

Jelly.

Peanut butter. His stomach shook and Maxie realized he was about to be very unhappy. England didn't appreciate peanut butter like his family did. They treated the salty, almost savory butter like something to chucked, and not treasured. Wriggling unhappily, Maxie wondered if he ought to just give up and ask for a bacon sandwich after all.

It was late, but that meant very little to Kaiser. For someone who barely slept, the night was still very young - not that that mattered to Hogwarts staff, or whoever had made the rule about curfew. Kaiser had hours and hours of being stuck in the dormitory and common room to look forward to if he was going to follow that particular rule tonight, and he figured he may as well grab himself something to eat before it was too late to be roaming freely around the castle. He did, after all, have a lot of weight he still needed to gain back.

Okay, so maybe he didn't need to, but all the same. Food. Food was always welcome.

The kitchens weren't too far from the Slytherin common room, they were close enough that it was a reasonably quick trip, and as a result, Kaiser was sort of pushing his luck with his timing. He tickled the pear, stepped into the cavernous room, and made an immediate beeline to the food. There was another boy here, already in his pyjamas, who had presumably had a similar idea to Kaiser, and Kaiser offered him a nod of acknowledgement as he passed him and opened up the door to the pantry.

Quirly was a busy busy busy house elf. Quirly had a spatula. Quirly always had a spatula. Quirly was actually able to use the very best and favorite spatula. Quirly was stirring all the vegetables for studenties! Quirly was a lucky lucky lucky house elf.

Then Quirly heard a voice. Quirly toddled over. Quirly took a deep bow. "Quirly is here. Quirly can helps." Quirly is a very good helper and a very good elf.

Swish... swish... swish...
...swish ...swish ...swish.

Argyle swished her broom across the kitchen floor to clean up all the dusts and germsies that might harm the Professorese and Studentsies.

Her broom stopped as she heard a Professorese talk to the House Elfses.

Argyle brought her broom over to Quirly and the Professorese. Argyle bowed with her nose touching the clean floor. The cleaning of dusts and germsies was also to keep her fellow elfses safe from dusts and germsies.

"Madam Professorese, Argyle is here too Madams. Argyle and Quirly can helps Madam Professorese."

Goblinfrog 05-08-2019 01:56 AM

Both of you

Alice was pleased to see how quickly the house elves snapped to attention. Most house elves were like that, and the part goblin professor admired that quality about them. (Although there was ONE house elf in this castle of which she was none too fond of.)

"Good morning, Quirly, Argyle," she said briskly, uncrossing her hands behind her back only to cross them again in front of her. "I wish to extend my compliments. The feast you prepared for the start of term was of an even higher quality than usual." It was true. She rarely extended compliments if they weren't heartfelt. "I come today with a small, little request that I hope one of you can assist me with."

This request was something she had planned ever since a few days after the previous term had ended. She looked back and forth to be sure no student was present. No need to scare them or make them think something was happening when it wasn't. "In light of last term's disastrous happenings, I believe I would sleep better if I had assurances that we are not in for a repeat performance this term. You house elves go everywhere and you see perhaps more things than even we professors see in a day, due to us having to prepare lessons and give classes. From now on, I am requesting that the house elf in charge of refilling the fruit bowl in my office talks to me whenever she or he is bringing the bowl. I want to hear if anything seems even a little bit OFF around this place. Even if it does not seem menacing. Just in case. Can one of you do this for me?"

Quirly 05-10-2019 11:33 PM

Quirly's large eyes (and face) were frowning. "Misses Professor doesn't normally like the food?" Were they bad elves usually with the feast? Quirly always tried to make good food. Quirly always tried. Quirly gripped the spatula tighter.

Quirly's eyes then got wide. "Misses Professor wants us to spy on studentsies?" Algamus would not like that. Algamus always says to cook and clean. Quirly did not want to upset Algamus. Quirly did not want to upset Misses Professor either.

Quirly didn't know what to do so Quirly just stood there. Quirly had a headache now.

Goblinfrog 05-11-2019 02:47 AM

Seriously? So that was the reaction she got for trying to give a compliment. Alice hadn't meant to upset the house elves. "The food is fine, Quirly. I just meant it was especially fine at the feast."

Her order (phrased as a request) didn't seem to be going the way she had hoped, either. Ahem! Perhaps she wasn't being clear enough in her wordings. "Now, Quirly, I never said to spy on the students. If you catch them breaking rules, then of course it is your duty to tell a professor. I do not expect trouble from the students. I want you to keep out for anything unusual - anything at all. A whisper. A portrait that you never saw before. A glowing ring. Anything that seems OFF. We don't know what form the next misfortune shall take, but I intend to be ready for it. You WILL do this for me, won't you, Quirly?"

And Argyle, of course.

Argyle 05-12-2019 07:10 AM

Argyle didnts know what the Madam Professorese meant to say. Argyle tugged at the hem of her dress. Argyle thoughts all the feasts were of the perfect standard.

But Madam Professorese came with a request. Argyle bowed low. Requests were jobsies. Argyle nodded. Argyle goes a lot of places. Argyle has sweeping to do and scrubbing to do around the castle and Argyle sees lots through the castle. Argyle was listening and then she stopped nodding with Madam Professorese and with Quirly instead. "Madam Professorese Argyle thinks we should be informing Masters Headmaster of any such things." Argyle nodded. "Argyle should check with Algamus if Madamses request is okay for Argyle."

Maxie had seen the other boy around- he peddled candy, if he remembered right- but he'd never seen him up close. The Slytherin was scary looking. Tall, and dirty, and annoyed-looking too. Maxie wanted to shrink under his nod, but was, unfortnately just as tall and as obvious as ever. "H-Hey." He said, and then questioned immediately why he said it. The Hufflepuff had zero intentions of speaking to the fright-inspiring older boy, yet here he was- greeting him like they knew one another.

Without thinking, Maxie began to quickly move, he grabbbed what was in front of him- a jar of marshmallow fluff and a large brown jar of---

"PEANUT BUTTER." Peanut Butter??? He'd been looking all over and now it was.. very suddenly in his hand.

...
...
...
weird.

Wait, why was Argyle tugging at the hem of her dress? Did that mean she was distressed or did it mean she was happy? All she did was compliment their cooking. She looked down at him with eyebrows raised in bemusement and decided that he must want her to bend down. She bent down on one knee so that she was more or less level with the house elf.

"Now Argyle, there is no need to tell the headmaster. You can if you WANT to, I am not trying to keep secrets from him." She added that last part hastily, not wanting to accidentally get in trouble. "But that man's got enough work on his plate without having to hear a hundred trivial details that may or may not be important. Why do you think there are many professors at Hogwarts and not just one? Now if we were to discover something that could even possibly be dangerous, of course I would want you to run or teleport straight to the headmaster and tell him. But in the meantime, I think we can handle this on our own, can't we?"

Argyle looked around nervously. "Mhhmmmm" sounds mumbled from her mouth. "Masters Headmaster is Argyle's masters." Mhhmmm. Argyle isn't wanting to do things Masters Headmasters isn't aware of. But Argyle is also not wanting to disturb Masters Headmasters when he is busy. Argyle isn't wanting stress to cause grey hairs. "Argyle will make sure studentsies is safe and Argyle will reports any unsafetyness to the Masters Headmaster and Professorese."

Quirly 05-17-2019 03:51 AM

Quirly was still unsure. "Quirly thinks Misses Professor should ask Algamus." Quirly fidgeted with the spatula. Quirly just wanted to get back to work. Cooking and Sweeping. House elf work. Quirly was still worried about spying. Quirly was even more worried about spying and not telling the Masters Headmaster. Quirly would do whatever Algamus told Quirly to do.

Goblinfrog 05-20-2019 09:37 PM

Oh, this was not going how she had imagined at all! Alice smiled thinly at the two house elves. It wasn't the type of thin smile she did when pleased, it was the more the one she did when trying to remain patient and polite. "Very well. Is Algamus here? I should like to talk to him if he is not preoccupied."

Argyle 05-25-2019 03:58 AM

Argyle looks left. Argyle looks right. Algamus not there with them. "Argyle go looks for Algamus Madame Professorese." Argyle bowed low and scampered off.

Algamus 05-25-2019 10:31 AM

Algamus appears with a pop that was somehow as crotchety as his wizened elfy face. Having not yet have found his broom, Algamus is experimenting with replacements. Currently he has a mop upright in his hand, the stringy ends falling down to touch his head to give the impression of a grey mass of hair sprouting up from his head.

"Algamus is not being sure why elfses are being interrupted in elfy work. Algamus is here now. Argyle says madam professor is being wanting Algamus for speaking to, but Algamus hopes it is short speaking." Algamus does not like elfses being distracted from their work! He waits to hear what the professor has to say.

Goblinfrog 05-26-2019 01:35 PM

Alice turned towards the head house elf. "Hello, Algamus. I normally hate repeating myself more than is necessary, but in short, this was my request: In light of last term's disastrous happenings, I believe I would sleep better if I had assurances that we are not in for a repeat performance this term. You house elves go everywhere and you see perhaps more things than even we professors see in a day, due to us having to prepare lessons and give classes. Why was this such a controversial request? Surely anyone who stopped and thought about it for more than a few secondds would realize that documenting things at Hogwarts could only yield good results.

Acting as if they were not living in one of the most historically dangerous buildings in the world was insane.

Algamus listened carefully to the professor's request and his brow furrowed.

"Is madam professor wanting elfsies to tell madam professor that madam professor is asking elfsies to sneak? Algamus is thinking this askings is being 'off'. Algamus is also remembering madam professors sneakings before Master headmaster Trent came." He added almost pointedly (for an elf). She was a sneaky professor, and sneaky was not good or safe.

MAYBE SHE has takes his broom! He misses it terribly! If Algamus has understandings of a calendar, Algamus would know how long his broom was being gone, but Algamus only knows it was gone some time before the Christmas times of the last year, and is still gone now before the Christmas times of this one.

He peered at her suspiciously and waved the mop at her as if that would provide some sort of answer to his sudden suspicion.

UGH!!!

That word could basically describe how the professor felt at how this conversation was going. She'd already been losing her patience before Algamus came up, but now that had just compounded four times greater and she just wanted to SMACK the house elf.

Wanted to and actually did are two different things, and luckily she did no such violent act. Composing herself, she counted to six in her mind and then counted backwards. When she was done, she opened her eyes and spoke to the house elf in as cold and calm a voice as she could muster. "Your attitude is extremely disrespectful, Algamus. A simple 'no' would have sufficed. I do not need to justify my actions to you, especially not the actions I did when following orders from the previous administration. I broke no rules. Now, I believe we are done. Good DAY, Algamus."

That last part was almost snarled. Almost, but not quite.

Spinning around on her heels, the history of magic professor held her high high and stormed out of the kitchen.

For iBeJenn

Cordelia ate snacks at ten am, three pm, and eight pm every day, and it was time to stock up on snack supplies. As such, Cordelia frequented the kitchens daily to prepare healthy snacks with the right carbs to protein balance. Often she packed into her reusable snack containers things like fruit and nuts, apples and peanut butter, cheese and crackers, or veggies and hummus. The house elves were usually quite helpful. She was quite glad that everyone could get into the kitchens again because when the fuzzies ate the kitchen door last year things had become very stressful in terms of ability to obtain said scheduled snack foods. On this particular occasion, Cordelia was searching for apples to kick off the snack preparation for the next day. She went around to the usual spot in the kitchen and picked up a couple of apples. These ones looked good. Now to find some peanut butter.
