Default DADA Lesson - 1 Don't Go Into the Light

It's the first official day of school and the first class at that. Hopefully you took Trent's advise and got yourself some sleep. As the notice stated, you should be properly attired for the practical lesson.

The corridor leading to classroom 104 is quite bright, and the grounds outside the windows appear to be awakening at this relatively early point in the morning. This is a stark contrast to the inside of the classroom. Once you enter, you'll immediately notice that it's no longer nearly 8 am. Indeed, the inside of the classroom depicts a slightly cloudy, night sky.

That's not the only thing strange about the classroom, the setting is void of any desks or chairs. Nothing about the room looks like a classroom, it doesn't look like a room at all but a bog of sorts. It's a dark "night" as the moon is currently being obscured by a cloud with no intention of going anywhere, but Headmaster Trent can be found not too far from the door, lantern in hand, while he waits for the students to come in.

Step lively, there's a full lesson ahead.

OOC: Welcome to the first lesson of the term everyone!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet

CLASS HAS BEGUN!

Class progression:
- Replies
- Replies and Question 1
- Question 2 + walking
- Start of Mini-Activity: Get in boats
- Mini-Activity: Follow the light
- Mini-Activity: You get a light and you get a light
- Main Acitivity: Practical

They were all set once they all came on board, just waiting on the headmaster to lead them on their way.

Alright, they were off!

Septimus set his oar carefully in the water and guided them away from the shore and after Professor Trent’s boat. That was the light they were supposed to be following after all. Just the light since the fog was getting thicker around it obscuring the man in question. Great. And there was another one. The fourth year kept an eye on the original one, doing his best to focus on it. They needed to go straight…not left. "Straight guys," he said aloud to make sure they were on the same page as they rowed. Straight on after the first light.
Malachi watches the lights with slight fascination but after hearing what they could be he quickly shakes his head as Septimus, as he had intoduced himself as tells them straight. He nods and follows the guy, not much of a leader himself.

It surprised Chloe that there were still plenty of students to fill her boat, even if none of them was Derf, and she scooted to the back and grabbed an oar as the boat filled. Thad. Juni the Love. Tiny one was Kaitlyn. And Pretty Hanna. Full boat was full.

"Hey, guys! So everyone grab an oar, and we'll..." She was interrupted as they lurched into motion, and the professor began to instruct them from his own boat. Only, was his boat disappearing into the fog? All they could see now was the light from his lantern, and then there were two, and then three! THREE!

"Guys... uh... Kaitlyn, why don't you watch the lanterns and try to remember which one is the professor? And the rest of us should try to keep up, because I don't fancy a soggy night in the bogs."

Torii passed a small smile to Patrick when he joined their boat. He was the Slytherin captain, so she sort of, kind of, just a little knew him. That was saying a lot considering she only really knew like three people. Speaking of which, she never did give her name to her fellow boat tribe, but it would only seem awkward to do it now, so she stayed quiet.

Her gaze slowly steered away from her boat and toward the Headmaster, who was giving them the rest of the directions. This was something Torii didn't care to ignore, because who knew what was waiting for them out here. That thought still kind of freaked her out. As the longest minute she'd ever waited through ticked on, Torii suddenly saw a light flicker on next to the Headmaster's. Ughhhhh. This was it, wasn't it?

Suddenly there were lights everywhere, and the fourth year felt a panic rise inside of her. Then Zoryn's voice broke through the silence around her, and rowing straight seemed like the perfect idea. "Right. Row straight," she said in a whisper. She was more trying to convince herself that she was going to be okay then she was trying to confirm Zoryn's idea. Torii continued rowing straight, all the while keeping her eye on the Headmaster and his light.

That was the Headmaster's light she had her eye on, wasn't it?

"Keydokey," Skyler said and helped keep the boat straight as much as she could. She glanced around. There were other creatures in here other then what they were trying to avoid...

Even as Septimus said it, Camilus felt that there was something that they were missing. Of course, he was only a first year, so he couldn't expect an older student to give him the lead, but maybe if he just suggested something....?

"Hey, I have an idea...," he piped up a little nervous but confident that his boat mates would listen, "What if there is a fourth option? What if we aren't supposed to follow any of the lights? How about we forget the lights, and just follow what we hear? Maybe even closing our eyes and just seeing if we agree on where we think his voice is coming from, and heading into that direction?"

He could be grasping at straws, but something told him that they were not supposed to "Go Into the Light" :read!:

Malachi looks at Camille and thinks about it, ever since the beginning the headmaster had told them to be sure to listen to the headmasters voice, he looks up at Septimus hesitantly. "He may be right, hasn’t the professor been telling us to listen?" He stops rowing as he finishes talking.

Default Mark, Mariam, Nettie and Kaira!
Arts TRANSPONSTER!

When the young Ravenclaw boy (Mark) said he wanted to be the boss, Anna immediately perked up. Giving Mariam - the one who seemed to be the oldest of the group - a look as if wondering if she was going to automatically take charge because she was the oldest (she knew some people did that), Anna was glad to see the girl seemed to simply wait for instructions.

That was her cue then!

"Let's go!" The Gryffindor exclaimed, starting to row and trying to keep an eye on the professor's source of light. Her eyebrows shot up when all of a sudden a new light appeared.

Anna watched both lights and noticed straight away when the new one started to drift away. Ohhh, a trick!! "Cool..." She said under her breath, focusing on the professor's voice to make sure they were following the right so-- another light!!

This time the fifth year didn't say anything when she saw a third light source appear and go back towards the one going straight. Her eyes quickly moved from one light to the other, as she cleared her ears to try and pay attention to see where direction professor Trent was heading towards. If the other people in her boat were speaking to her, she wasn't listening. Too busy trying not to lose track of what she thought was the correct light source!! Which waaas... the one going straight. Though that third light appearing from the light on the left did make her wonder.

Hmmm... maybe stirring the boat slightly so that it was somewhere in between both directions. No, mainly straight ahead, yes. That seemed to be the better option for now. She hoped.

With a hand gesture as she was trying to keep volume to a minimum - miracles did happen! - Anna showed her teammates which direction she thought they should go. Straight.

Alright, if the Ravenclaws aboard wanted to make their house proud and use some logic on this, Anna would listen. She even leaned back a bit to show she was sort of trying to listen to both them and the professor's voice. Hopefully the mix of different voices from different directions wouldn't make her lose track of professor Trent's voice... and light.

Natalie was glad that her boat filled up quickly, but she was apprehensive about WHO was filling up her boat. She had nothing against Abeyraham, but it was just kinda............. weird. Ya know?

Then there was his cousin, who she didn't really know, and then Gunnar, who she only kind of knew and then some other girl who she didn't know at all. It didn't calm her nerves at all. But one thing was sure: Natalie was not emotionally attached to any of these people and if something attacked, she was going to sacrifice all of them first before it got to her.

Sorry. Not sorry.

Then it was time to follow the Headmaster and Natalie was sincerely (STILL) hoping that it wasn't going to be like last time with the redcaps. She couldn't really read the Headmaster that well, but he didn't seem as psychotic as the last one, so surely they wouldn't die, right?!?!

Oar in hand, Natalie started paddling out, watching the light of the Headmaster's wand intently, trying not to lose focus. She was glad he kept talking though, so she could tell that his voice was ahead. But then another light appeared right next to the first one. Uh oh. Natalie moved her eyes back to the original light and tried not to blink so she wouldn't get them confused. But then it moved around the first one and then ONE of them moved around and moved away from their original path. And THEN, to make matters worse, ANOTHER light appeared and Natalie's blood pressure rose as her anxiety increased.

The third light joined what she was pretty sure was the Headmaster's light, and to her relief, she heard Abra say (or ask) to continue straight. Natalie nodded. "Err, yeah. I think so. Straight." So she kept paddling, going straight ahead.

The boat rocked a bit, but otherwise there was no danger. Save for this fog which was thick and like his grandma's pea soup. It made the light from the headmaster's lantern all the more difficult to see...plus the sea of heads belonging to his classmates occasionally blocking it. Not to mention that they too, the other boats, faded in and out of visibility with the fog.

........and then there were a few lights. Then none. Then a few. Then two. Then none. And then finally one settled into visibility. Derf was pretty sure his eyes, which were already struggling with this activity and he found himself wishing he had the glasses Stephanie had given him on him now, were playing tricks on him.

"Left!" Derf instructed, dipping his oar into the water to begin that shift.

Daisy was having difficulty navigating amid the confusing pattern of lanterns which certainly didn't help matters. Then she heard Derf's voice and so she obeyed his instruction, making sure that she was helping to paddle the boat leftwards.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

The Headmaster’s voice continued to ring out in the eerie silence of the bog. It moved from topic to topic, giving the students an idea of what to expect throughout the term. The man doubted they were truly listening to the words but it didn’t matter, the voice was important—as was his light. As he’d said to them many times before getting to this point, they needed to pay attention to both.

The problem with terrain like this was voices tended to travel and sometimes that made it difficult to pinpoint their direction. Similarly, with new lights appearing, it was hard to ever REALLY be sure. It was best to fixate on both.

SCREEEEEEEECCCHHHHHHHHH!

Suddenly, a loud piercing scream can be heard. It sounds like it’s coming from the same direction they’d been coming from, back near the shore. What was it? Who possibly. Whatever the case, it was loud and chilling.

In that second, the two lights that continued straight began to separate. The one going left continued at an even pace but the other two were joined by a third. The fog thickens and the lights that carry the same level of light intensity converge briefly as they cross paths.

One veers of the right, the other two continue going straight. The Headmaster’s voice echoes. Going right....? Keeping straight? It was not too late to catch up with the light going left. If you weren’t too distracted by the scream, there’s a chance you may have noticed which light went where.

OOC:Next light post is up and another light has joined the party as they head deeper into the bog. Choose wisely I’ll post up the consequences sporadically but no worries this is still the mini activity and you can jump right into whatever’s happening ^^

"Of course you can," the fourth year smiled at the young girl that was clearly a first year. "I'm Rylee and this is my cousin Isla," she introduced both herself and the younger lioness at her side. Holding out her hand to Charlie she offered to help her into the boat safely before passing her an oar once she had sat down.

"Nice to have you with us, Stas." Having a Prefect and one she knew well in their boat was going to be helpful for sure! They would be okay. All they had to do was follow the sound of Headmaster Trent's voice and follow the light of his lantern. Easy peasy.

"Here we go," she let everyone know as their boat moved along the river. Nice even strokes of her oar along the water, silently counting out her own movement trying to keep in time with the others in the boat. All was well until she could no longer see the Headmaster but only the shining light of the lantern. And than another and... another?!

Rylee blinked once. Then again. One light stayed straight, this was the very first one she was sure... maybe? One veered off to the left and another that started near that one went to join the first. Good gosh this was like following a game of Quidditch or maybe watching a dance competition. "Which way do we go? Left or straight? I say straight but what about you all?" Just because she was at the very front of the boat didn't mean they weren't a team. They needed to be in agreement here... and fast.

The boat had filled up fairly quickly, and sooner than expected the expedition down the magical river had begun. Follow the leader, the leader being Headmaster Trent. One the one hand, there were enough hints that this lesson was closer to the scarier of her previous DADA lessons that she was guessing it wasn’t going to stay that easy, but she wanted to trust the man to keep them all safe. She was going to try her hardest to keep her boatmates safe, too, but a little help was welcome. Especially since they’d been told to holster their wands again earlier so she didn’t have that advantage anymore. As far as she was concerned, she could’ve rowed while still keeping her wand in her hand, but she wasn’t going to try it now.

Follow his voice and his lantern. Easy enough, until the fog had rolled in and everything got eerie. More lights had appeared, but she’d kept steadily rowing, matching the others’ pace. “Definitely straight,” she agreed with Rylee, hoping it was the right decision. That and hoping the headmaster hadn’t brought real hinkypunks into the castle. Constant vigilance, which was usually simple.

Until the crazy carnival game that was the various lights had gotten more complicated. Not only that but the fog had gotten worse and there was a threatening screech coming from nearby. Honestly, she’d been doing okay until the shriek, and she’d found her hand wandering toward her wand more than once before she forced herself to focus on rowing and focusing. “Left, I think. Follow the steady light.” It made the most sense. Unless there was way more magic going on and the boat lantern was able to cross paths with the mystery lights. Maybe the headmaster had just multiplied his lantern light?

So they were meant to get lost, he assumed, because what were these new lights all around? Also thankfully the blondie was in his boat because if he weren't - his head was blonde enough to be mistaken for light and be followed too.

Left though? Because Zac was sure he heard the professor from the other direction. He looked at the puff head boy in confusion - but nodded anyway, following the instruction.

And then there was the scream.

Merlin.

"So definitely away from the scream and toward the light?" he asked blondie.

Isla waved a greeting back at the girls who have joined their boat. "Hi, yeah sure you can." She was glad Rylee introduced her to the crew because right now, she was not feeling it. Isla was getting super anxious at the prospect of getting lost in the middle of a magic river/lake? She would need to focus on Professor Headmaster's lantern and voice but it was getting harder because of the eerie fog

EEEEEK. She wanted to cry! "Rylee...are you sure? I can't see a thing..." she whispered nervously to her older cousin. Even her house prefect was agreeing to her suggestion. But...but...what if they were both wrong? There was no end in sight.

Oh no... there were more lantern lights popping out around them. And now they were going left? This was so confusing.

"How do we know...which light to follo-" Suddenly a terrible screech heard out of nowhere, making her jump in fright and almost dropping her oar into the water. "...what in the world was that?!" she cowered close to her cousin, gripping her oar so tightly against her chest. Hinkypunks?!!

Mary had been rather silent the whole ride, trying to concentrate, but all the older years were really taking the lead and she was getting confused. She liked the idea, this seemed like the kind of class where something like this might happen. The other first year might have a point.

She continued to row in whatever direction the older years were rowing. After all, they knew what they were doing.

What a relief: she was all clear to stay in the boat. In all honesty, it was a little too late to switch boats anyhow... but that wasn't the point.

"Nice to meet you, Rylee and Isla!" She grinned at the both of them accordingly, taking Rylee's outstretched hand and then the oar. As possible as it was in this dark, scary terrain, Charlie felt safe and welcome (However, she did make a mental note to try to meet up with the two in better circumstances).

They had a nice-looking, older (even older than Rylee, she surmised) girl named Stas... they would surely be fine. Probably.

And then they were off. Charlie kept an eye on Rylee's movements, doing her best to mirror them so they wouldn't go off course. That would just be dreadful.

Apparently quite likely, also, seeing as two other lanterns popped up. Oh, bother, she thought, furrowing her brow and tightening her grip on the oar. It made sense to go straight for now, as that was where Headmaster Trent should be, but then the lanterns went wild.

And then there was the horrible shriek.

Charlie jumped in her seat, clambering for her oar as it fell out of her hands and almost out of the boat. When she got a hold of it again, she gripped it even tighter than before, not feeling so good about their venture anymore.

She didn't really have time to think too critically about which light they should follow, but she knew they had to make a decision, so she did.

"I would say left," Charlie suggested... but what did she know?

There was no doubt in her mind that they were being tested here. Constant vigilance was key. Not only in DADA but in every lesson and pretty much all the time. There here and now is what mattered at the moment. Being wrong with which direction they rowed their boat in could be a large problem. Rylee was confident though in their ability to work together as a team should a less than pleasant outcome arise.

"I'm sure, Issy," she replied with a nod of her head. Thank you, Stasya for agreeing with her right now and Charlie too! The other girls confirmation on going straight had Rylee doing just that. So far so good.

Only... what in the world?! Right away she found herself very quickly glancing around in all directions trying to figure out where all the lights were coming from AND what was that awful screeching?! Was she scared? No, not yet but she was very much unnerved. Having her younger cousin at her side wasn't helping with her anxiety in keeping her team safe either. Huh? Left?

Focusing as best she could on the light that Stasya had said she nodded. It appeared that was one light that was more steady than the others that kept moving about. "Yeah, yeah I think you're right. See that light there, Issy, Charlie?" Rylee pointed quickly at the light Stas had spoken over on the left. "Keep your sights on it. I agree fully in following the most steady light." It made complete sense. Unless the Headmaster was trying to purposely throw them off course but that was something she was trying not to think about. Keeping her head was very important. "It's okay, just breath Issy, it's like flying almost... stay calm, listen for any sounds around you and keep your eyes on the prize... like catching the gold snitch, hmm?" She cast a little smile at her cousin hoping to easy her worry. In this case though rather than follow the snitch they were following the light. The beautiful, glorious, shiny light...

Row, row, row their boat to the left!

"Miss Hufflepuff Captain, I'd like you to join either that boat," The one containing the Gryffindor female prefect, "or that one over there." With the Head Boy. They were about to leave the shoreline. One boat could hold one more person and the other had space for two. There was no reason for her to stay in a boat by herself when there were five oars.

He waited a moment for the last few to shuffle in where they needed to be and take their oars in hand if they hadn't already before giving the command. "Everyone, follow me. Remember what I've said."

It was dark, but not so dark that they couldn't make out silhouettes. They would have no issues avoiding each others' boats while they travelled. "I'll give you lot a quick rundown of the year's curriculum. It's nothing to be concerned about in the moment, just a means to keep my voice out there for you." Malachi rowed on, his lantern floating and following him into the darkness. Team work and quick thinking would be their best friend especially given the fog that settled in, obscuring the man and his boat. Only the lantern remained. It shun bright enough that the fog did very little to it.

Just a minute into the rowing, another light appears next to the Headmaster's. It dances around the first light before slowlyyy drifting away from the original lantern. Or was IT the original lantern? Either way, it's begun to veer off toward the left. Do you follow or keep straight?

To make matters worse, there's now a third light. It starts where the left light is but slowly drifts over to the one that continues straight. Both lights continue in this direction. Keep your eyes on them unless you don't believe either to be the Headmaster's. Should you have gone left? The lights aren't so far apart that the distance of the voice makes a difference yet. With how close they currently were, the voice could be coming from any of the three. All of them? Hopefully you've been watching.

OOC: second leg of the mini activity! Lights will be appearing and disappearing, you're kiddos will have to decide which to follow in low visibility. It;ll require concentration on their part but mistakes are fine too. I'll be back with more lights in maybe 18 hrs.

Plus, it was learning experience now and all that.

"Mariam," she said with a slight nod of her head to introduce herself. She'd gotten the names of Nettie and Anna, and a hint at the boy's name, but figured if she needed the rest... well, they were sitting right there if they found themselves gliding through dangerous waters. To go or not to go? That was indeed the question. Alas, the professor gave them their cue.

"Looks like zat is our green light." To go, that is, before they lost the professor. Grabbing the oar she'd be working with, she waited to begin so they'd be in sync with one another, at least up until...

Oh.

Which way... captain?

Hopefully the mix of different voices from different directions wouldn't make her lose track of professor Trent's voice... and light.
All it would take would be to push against the current while the others rowed forward he would flip Anna from being the bow to the stern and she would then become the coxswain and he wouldn't have to lead. He was too young for any sort of leadership position. Unfortunately in his plea and hesitant exclamation did the exact opposite effect, maybe?

It didn't take him long to come to the conclusion that maybe he was the man for the job? Or...guy the no...the person for the job, yeah! His home outside of Hogwarts was a Lake House after all. With a little dinghy of a rowboat his father fixed up. He took Mark out on it a few times, even Xaria too (against her will L.O.L.)

Still though his leadership would need some guidance. You can't play chess with the King alone, The Queen, Bishop, Rook, and Knights were just as essential and honestly the better pieces. So like...If he were the King of the boat then the older girl, Mariam. She would be the Bishop. The first year girl, Kaira, she's his Rook. The Gryffindor Captain, obviously the Knight, obviously. Nettie can be the Queen. He blushed at the thought.

Keep your mind on track, Gunter! This was just another Strategy Game you would need to conquer!

he cocked his head to the side to note that Anna was nudging her's to go straight. In a hushed tone of voice Mark spoke up. "K-keep going forward. We'll follow the two lights straight ahead for now" With the help of the other's rowing, they rowed straight forward toward the two lights ahead.

It was good idea that their boat remained mostly silent so that they could continue to listen to the Headmaster's voice. Occasionally Mark would speak up to make sure the Rowboat remained straight and on course. "If...if we chose wrong." Mark spoke up. "Let's keep our boat following these two for now, but don't row any closer to them." It was good to stay cautious now. If one or both of the lights were in fact Hinkypunks rowing nearer to them would put them in more danger with fireballs.

Then the loud screech happened. Mark turned his head to look behind them instinctual to see what the noise was, but the fog was too thick and there was no light source behind them. It would HIGHLY unwise to row back to the shore now.

As he faced his head forward again there were suddenly three lights. "I think we should turn Left." Mark suddenly changed his mind. The one over there on their left. No other lights were following it. It was hard to pick out if that was the direction the Headmaster's voice was going, but. To him now, it just made more sense. Lights continued to appear in the direction they were headed while the one on their left was alone. If one of the 3 lights were the Headmaster's wouldn't the other two be Hinkypunks and therefore being shooting at the Headmaster himself? The fact they were not, just made him think all 3 were Hinkypunks, and following them. Even from a safe distance would only make them row further and further away toward nowhere. "Turn left follow the lone light" There was bit more confidence exuding from the 2nd Year Ravenclaw thrust into command of the Rowboat. Mark began to move his oars in the way that would put them away from the 3 lights there were following at first.

The first thing Igor was thinking was he picked the wrong boat definitely. It was too late now to do anything about it and hopefully they all knew what they were doing being all sevenths and well much older than first year him. Just well if they expected him to row like by himself and them to get anywhere at a reasonable time they had anything thing coming.

Rowing straight seemed like a fine idea to him and not like him saying anything would do anything. So he was rowing straight and trying not to pay attention to all the lights because it would be really easy for him to get lost of he did.

"............."

...what was that noise???

"Um...you guys heard that right?"

He would leave the decision of what light they were following to the older kids.

YAY TEAM! The fourth year was very happy to have been welcomed into her team boat and before she knew it they were off. Going off of everyone's decision to continue straight Vivian immediately complied by giving her nod of approval. Again...YAY TEAMWORK!

Though it was not long after this decision was made there was an awfully LOUD and sudden screeching sound ringing in her ears that naturally made the fourth year jump. In one quick motion she could soon be seen lifting her oar out of the water over hear head, whipping around prepared to swing at whatever it was that was likely looming over her boat....But oddly enough, there was nothing there, or at least not that she could see....Hmm...

She continued to stare back at the shoreline for another moment before slowly lowering her oar again to start turning BEFORE quickly turning again to look behind them....but again saw nothing. Coming to terms that there was nothing there, the fourth year nodded before turning back around fully to look back ahead..

Oh.......alright......there were more lights now.....Right....Umm...

"SO...which way now?" Internally cursing herself for letting that sound make her lose her focus. Her eyes fixated on the multiple lights ahead trying to decipher which might be the best way to go now. Remains silent for a moments as she analyzes them before speaking again. "If it helps? I think the light to the left looks the most promising?" Maybe not?

Unsure.....just trying to make sure she's committing to help her team!!!!

Patrick smiled back at Torii before they kept rowing straight ahead. He was getting used to the rhythm the boat had set. He was going along just fine.

Not dead yet.

Sighing he looked ahead noticing the lights going seperate directions followed by a loud screech. What was that?! "uh yeah not a fan of that sound Igor." He glanced toward Zoryn to see if she had any advice on which direction to go since she obviously was taking the lead which was a-okay for him.

So they weren't a chatty bunch then, Tessa thought, looking at her boat companions. Drew actually seemed pretty nervous. She would have reassured him but he didn't explicitly say he was nervous or scared, so she kept her mouth shut about it and just smiled kindly at him. Reading people's emotions was not her strong point, after all. That being said, it didn't take a genius to figure out that one of the others in the boat - a young Slytherin girl - was not a people person. Luckily for that girl, it was class so Tessa wasn't in her usual social-butterfly mood. She kept her focus on the light of (hopefully) Headmaster Trent's boat. It sounded like it was coming from there, but it was hard to tell.

Unsurprisingly, Tessa wasn't listening to everything the Headmaster was saying. She could hear his voice but it wasn't that clear and, let's be honest, she was more focused on making sure they were following the right light. Drew had said straight forward, which she agreed with, so that was what they were doing.

That was until a SCREECH! made the lioness turn her head, instinctively trying to locate the source of the noise.

Creepy...........

When Tessa turned back to the front, she noticed that the lights were moving in different directions and she had no idea which one belonged to the Headmaster's boat. Uhhhhhhhh. So much for being focused. She glanced around at the others. "Which light are we following?" She tried to listen out for the Headmaster's voice but it was becoming increasingly difficult to pinpoint.

Uh.

Yeah. Zoryn had NO idea. And her point of reference (aka all the boats in front of them), seemed to be turning back for the light on the left??? But hadn't they decided that the one going straight was definitely right? Not right-right. But right, right.

HER HEAD WAS GOING TO EXPLODE.

But they needed a decision quick. And it wasn't like any of the others were making any. "Let's go right." Despite the fact that she had absolutely no basis for making this assertion, she sounded quite confident. Only, no one else seemed to be going right...

"Definitely right."

YOLO.

He had said dying was against the rules so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. What's the worst that could happen?

Fourth option?

Not follow the lights by rather the sounds?

Septimus was listening to what Camilus had to say…and Malachi seemed to almost agree with. This was an equal opportunity boat, he and Skyler were just the oldest. And he had kinda taken charge of things. “Well Headmaster Trent DID say to follow his voice,” the fourth year Ravenclaw agreed with that part of the thoughts. “Buuuut he also said to look for his lantern. Both things seem to be important.” Which was what was so confusing and cause for discussion.

Before he could think more on the subject however he was winching at the very loud SCREECCCCCHHH coming from where they had started. Rubbing his ears to get the ringing out, Septimus was distracted away from his lantern watching. Which wasn’t very good when another light had joined the others making a fourth out in the distance. And then there was fog and converging lights and the Ravenclaw was struggling to place the one he wanted.

“Right…or still straight?” he asked the group as they floated for a little bit.

Once Hanna was in the boat she grabbed one of the give oars and followed suit with OARING. It was time to follow Professor Trent to... wherever they were going. Gulp. She tried to keep an eye on his lantern, but hadn't thought of MORE appearing and drifting away. Her eyes widened in fright. Chloe had stopped talking, so had she lost the original one too? "I-I don't either," she said. Nope. Not a dark night in a bog.

Her body did an automatic FLINCH when she heard the scream. Every muscle tightened. It was a good thing she'd only had a small breakfast, or that would have probably been vomited out. "What was that!?" she squeaked out, looking behind her in the dark.

"Wh-which way should we go?" She turned back to face the Professor or... so she thought. She had lost tabs on which one she believed to be Professor Trents.

The screech made her jump too and honestly, it would've been hard not to. She'd been focusing so hard on following the headmaster's lantern and listening to his words, the alarming sound caught her completely off guard. Had anyone else experienced a sudden chill running up their spine? Talk about creepy. ...But this was how they worked. How hinkypunks did. The sound was meant to lure them in a different direction. Distract them. The headmaster would...

Oh no.

It had only been a moment, a glance over her shoulder, but it had been enough time to make her doubt herself. There were more lights now and ones that were veering off in different directions. Truthfully, Vita had no idea which one was the right one anymore. If this was a challenge, she'd failed. She just hoped the others in her boat had been better at ignoring the distractions.

"I'm not so sure anymore," She admitted to the younger gryffindor girl, her gaze shifting to Indigo in hopes that he'd have a plan. No offense to the small humans, but she trusted him most right now. Plus she didn't want to be the one to make the decision and have it be the wrong one. "What do the rest of you think?"
