Introduction to Cultural Arithmancy

Introduction to Cultural Arithmancy

Numbers, like words, can have different meanings depending on where they are culturally brought up. That is a defining feature of Cultural Arithmancy. Cultural Arithmancy looks to study how numbers have different meanings from culture to culture. In this book we look not only at the numbers that pertain to us but numbers with cultural significance to different nations, such as unlucky and lucky numbers.

When Practicing Numerology and Arithmancy it is recommended that scratch paper is used. This paper is important to you as it is imperative that proper mathematics are used in calculating your numbers.

Introduction to Kundalini & Tantric Arithmancy

Introduction to Kundalini & Tantric Arithmancy
Kundalini Yoga is also known as laya yoga or the yoga of awareness. In this form of yoga the focus is to awaken the kundalini energy that lies dormant at the base of the spin.

Kundalini yoga works by using a combination of pranayama, meditation, yoga poses, and mantra chanting to awaken the kundalini energy at the base of the spine. It was developed as a part of Tantra meditation and yoga along side Hatha yoga. This practice was first published in 1938 by Swami Sivananda however it was made popular by Yogi Bhajan in United States in 1968. Yogi Bhajan founded the 3HO or the Happy, Healthy, Holy Organization which combined yogic postures, breathing techniques, and Sikh mantras to develop a new form of kundalini yoga.

Kundalini Yoga has connections to numerology and astrology through the eight Chakras, the Nadis, and the ten spiritual bodies as well as by other means that will be further explored in this textbook. Common practice of numerology and Arithmancy has strong connections to Yogic Numerology through the use of the Soul Number, Karma Number, Gift Number, Destiny Number, and the Path numbers.

In this section of Cultural Arithmancy we will discuss the merits and uses of Kundalini Yoga and Tantric Numerology. We will also look at what connections these have with standard Chaldean numerology and the how it may have been influenced by or influenced the practice of Arithmancy.

Introduction to Chakras & Nadis

Introduction to Chakras & Nadis

The term Chakra is a used in both the Wizarding and non-Wizarding world. The term Chakra is based in the Sanskrit language*, Chakras, in Sanskrit mean wheel. When picturing ones chakra is often useful to imagine that the Chakra has the shape of a circle or a wheel as the energy harnessed within the unblocked chakras should be able to flow.

With the flowing of the chakra I find it easier to picture that there is water or energy flowing from the base chakra, which is located by the tailbone. Some people find that visualizing a mill on a river can be helpful when trying to get in touch with ones chakra. Using the visualization of the mill can help to notice if the energy is flowing properly from Chakra to Chakra.

In Kundalini Yoga and Numerology there are believed to be eight Chakras. These chakras can be divided into the lower triangle, and the upper triangle with the heart being a balance point between both chakra centers.

The Lower Triangle
The lower triangle of Chakras are based in physical needs, similar to

Muladhara the first chakra is located at the tailbone, it is associated with security and survival. The color associated with the base chakra is red and the element associated is earth. The astorological body associated with the base chakra is Saturn.

Swadisthan the second chakra is located in the pelvis. This chakra is associated with Creativity, the color associated is orange, and the element is water. The astrological body associated with the second chakra is Jupiter.

Manipura The third chakra is related to action and balance, and is located at the solar plexus or navel point. The color associated with it is yellow and the element is fire.. The astrological body associated with this chakra is mars.

The center point/Balance Point, the balance point is a good way to tell if your chakra triangles and main chakras are in balance.

The Heart Chakra The fourth chakra is the balance point between the lower and upper triangle. It is located in the middle of the chest and is associated with love and compassion. The color used with this chakra is green and the element is air. This chakra is considered the balance point not only because of where it is located in the body but also because it deals with both physical needs of the body with compassion and love, but also with the metaphysical aspect which the upper triangle is known to be related to. The astrological body associated with this chakra is Venus.

The Upper Triangle

Visshuda The fifth chakra or the throat chakra is about the projective power of the word and is located at the throat. It Is associated with the color light blue as well as the element of ether.

Sixth, Seventh, & Eigth the sixth, seventh, and eighth chakras in the upper triangle correspond to non-physical subtle realms. These are not related to any material elements unlike the lower triangle chakras and the throat chakra.

Ajna/Agneya or the sixth chakra is located between the eyebrows, it is often called the forehead chakra. Some wizards believe that Seers and diviners are more easily intune with their Ajna chakras. The color associated with this Chakra is indigo.

Sahastrara or the seventh chakra is correlates with humility and vastness. It is located at the crown of the head, and the color associated is violet.

In other forms of Chakra systems this is the final and ‘crown’ Chakra, the last of the Chakras. However, in kundalini there is an eighth Chakra.

The Eighth Chakra is visualized as being pure white in color, this chakra is the electromagnetic field surrounding your physical body. This chakra is also described as the soul star. This Chakra is located above the crown chakra. Typically it is above the highest point of the physical body and about a hand width above the head. This is a transpersonal chakra, it is associated with being ones connection with the divine.

Nadis

The Nadis are the channels through which prana or life force travels upwards. They originate in the Kanda and the heart, the Kanda is located just below the navel. It is believed that there are 72,000 Nadis in the subtle, however there are three that are more important than the others.

The three most important Nadis are Sushumna, Ida, and Pingala.

When practicing Kundalini yoga this powerful energy travels within the Sushumna. The Sushumna is the central channel located at the spinal column.

Ida is located to the left side of the body and corresponds with the right side of the brain. The Ida nadis is associated with feminine qualities, the left nostril, and with lunar and cool energy.

Pingala is located at the right side of the body and corresponds to the left side of the brain. This nadis is associated with masculine qualities, the right nostil and with solar heat energy.

Kundalini yoga is used to help remove the impurities in the Nadis. This is done so as a way to balance the energy flow in the chakras. It is necessary for Kundalini to continue its rise upwards from the root chakra to the crown chakra, this is where you will attain spiritual consciousness and enlightenment.

Calculating Kundalini & Yogic Numbers; and their meanings

Calculating Kundalini & Yogic Numbers

Tantric Numerology uses your birthdate to calculate five numbers. These numbers are used to figure out the quality of the relationships you share with yourself, others, and with your destiny.

The five numbers used are the soul number, the karma number, the gift number, the destiny number, and the path number.

Each of these numbers have specific methods in which they are to be calculated. Like most Chaldean Numerology systems with Tantric numerology you must add the numbers together until you get a number between 1 and 11.

For the following examples we will be using the Author’s birthdate – August, 31st. 2059.

Soul Number
Add the numbers of your birthday together – for this we take 31 and add it together 3+1 and we get a 4.

Karma Number
Add the numbers of your birth month together – for this we take August, which is the 8th month and leave it here. The final answer for the Karma number will be an 8.

Gift Number
Take the last two digits of your birth year and add these together – for this we have 2059, we are only using the last two digits which makes it 59, 5+9 = 14, since this is a double digit we reduce down again 1+4 = 5.

Destiny Number
Add the four digits of the year number together – 2059 = 2+0+5+9 = 2 + 14 = 2+1+4 = 2+5 = 7

Path Number
Add all the numbers of your birthdate together - 8 + 31 + 2059, 8 + (3+1) + (2+0) + (5+9) = 8 + (4) + 2+ (14) = 8+(4)+2+(5) = 8+(4+2)+5 = 8+(10)+5 = 8+(1)+5 = 8+6 = 14 = 1+4 = 5

Using this example we notice that these are the following results for the Soul, Karma, Gift, Destiny, and Path numbers;

Soul – 4
Karma – 8
Gift – 5
Destiny – 7
Path = 5

Now after going through how we calculate these numbers it is utterly important to understand what each of these numbers mean in context to Numerology and Arithmancy.

Soul Number
The soul number indicates the relationship you have with yourself. It represents the connection you share with your undying and infinite soul. The soul, in this instance, is deep inner peace, which can only be attained when you go within yourself.

Karma Number
The karma number indicates the relationship you share with others. This number describes what you need to do in order to achieve harmonious relationships.

Gift Number
The gift number refers to your god (/goddess/divinely/ect) given talents. This talent is one that you need to recognize in order to use it within your daily life.

Destiny Number
The destiny number tells you how others see you. It also represents the main quality for which you have been working on for many lifetimes. People see this quality in you, you are the master in this, and you can use it in order to help others as well.

Path Number
The path number indicates who you are, and what your purpose on this earth truly is. The path number lets you know about the trait(s) you need to manifest in your daily life. This trait can be the thing that will help you to live a fulfilled life.

Main components of Yogic Arithmancy

Main components of Yogic Arithmancy

With the use of Tantric numerology you can understand yourself better. This can also be said with any form of numerology, and divining process of the like. Through the study of tantric numerology and Arithmancy one can discover what aspects of their life that they need to develop and work on to live a fulfilling life. Tantric numerology is one of the ways that you can access and develop the process of awakening your Kundalini energy. Kundalini energy is believed to be quietly sleeping at the base of the spine, you can easily picture it as a snake made of pure light and energy that rests when unawake by the Muladhara Chakra, or the base chakra.

The word Kundalini is based in Sanskrit, this is because the word “Kundal” means, “to curl”. This energy is often equated to and visualized as a serpent, lying coiled up at the base of your spine. When one begins working on their Kundalini energy the will raise through the Sushumna channel and will eventually reach the Sahasrara, or the crown chakra at the top of the head. This occurs when one has reached a higher spiritual plain and has experienced enlightenment.

Kundalini yoga has five components. These five components are used to awaken the dormant psychic energy of the Kundalini and make it rise upwards through the spine. This process can only be achieved by the mixing of the cosmic energy, Prana, and the eliminating energy, Apana.

Apana, the eliminating energy, is stored in the lower chakras. Prana, the cosmic energy, is life force which we absorb from the air we breathe and the food that we eat. When you do Kundalini yoga, you are working on improving the absorption of Prana and raising the eliminating energy of Apana up the spine. Through various actions you unite the Prana and the Apana; these actions can generate enough psychic energy to force the Kundalini to rise through the main chakras.

There are important aspects and components used in the process of practicing Kundalini yoga. Below we will go into more detail on these components.

Asanas
Asanas are yogic poses that apply pressure on the nerves and stimulate the different glands and organs of the body.

Kriyas
The word “Kriya” means “action”. The asanas are practiced in a series known as kryias. These kriyas are preformed in specific sequences to generate specific effects on the body.

Mudras
Kundalini yoga involves crossing, curling, stretching or touching the fingers and hands in different gestures. These gestures are known as Mudras. These gestures lock and guide the flow of energy and reflexes to the brain. Each of the gesture has an effect on a different part of the body or mind.

Bandhas
These are body locks or muscular contractions that help in channeling and retaining Pranas.

Mantras
Syllables, words, or phrases are chanted during this praces to elevate or modify consciousness.

Pranayama
Controlled breathing is practiced to direct the flow of prana, which in turn helps in altering consciousness and achieving calmness and stillness.

Meditation
An important part of making the Kundalini rise up the spin, meditation is about calm, and stillness. This calm exists not just in body movements but also in thoughts and emotions. Various techniques can help in achieving this calmness, improving intuition, and controlling one’s behaviors, actions, and feelings. Regular practice of meditation can help one achieve higher consciousness.

Other Components
There are other components that can be involved in Kundalini Yoga. These may include gazing or focusing on an external object or spot within the body. Visualization of light, color, and energy movement among other things can be used to help one raise their Kundalini energy.

Meditation Guidelines & Techniques

Meditation Guidelines & Techniques

Meditation, as discussed in the previous chapter, plays an important role in raising your consciousness to a higher spiritual plane. Regular practice of mediation not only is good for mental health as it can be used to calm the mind but helps one to raise the psychic energy or Kundalini. This chapter discusses the guidelines for meditation as these may be helpful to you in your meditation process.

Where to meditate
Choosing a place where you won’t be disturbed is an important aspect of meditation. This quiet and calm place can easily be created with the use of magic as witches and wizards have the ability to cast noise cancelling charms on their surroundings. Most avid practitioners of meditation choose to meditate in nature, when this is impossible the silencing charms and others tools can be quite useful. The following tools can be used in nearly any location, Candles, flowers, spiritual symbols or images that are important to you. These can make any place feel more calming which is conductive for meditation.

When to Meditate
Choosing a time that works best for you schedule can be a hassle when it comes to meditation. If it is at all possible choosing a time early in the morning, even when showering before you start your day can help one to start a positive day. The same can be done before bed as practice can help one calm their mind in order to sleep.

Be Consistent
Committing to your meditation practice is the single most important aspect of meditation. Meditating every day and not skipping days can help one to achieve the serene calm that meditation can bring to ones life. Do not fret if you do not have time to meditate every day or if you miss a day, just try again the next day as this likely is a new system that you are integrating into your life.

What is your intention?
Deciding on an intention for your meditation is important, this gives you something to focus on. Focusing on the result that you want from your meditation makes it all the more likely that you will achieve the desired goals.

Warming up
Chant Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo before the meditation. Following up with yoga kriyas can help you with your meditation process.

How much time should you meditate?
Meditation should be practiced for a certain period of time to get the desired effects. For example, meditating for three minutes you effect your blood circulation and electromagnetic field. Continuing to meditate for longer periods of time, such as seven minutes, you begin to alter the health of your nerves and glands.

Balance and coordinating your mind can be achieved by practicing for twenty-two minutes. Meditating for around thirty-one minutes is enough to have a positive effect on the cells and rhythms of ones body. Doubling that length and meditating for around sixty-two minutes can alter then gray matter of the brain. This also integrates the subconscious mind and the outer projection of the self and mind. When you hold meditation for around one hundred and fifty minutes, it holds the new pattern in the subconscious mind by the surrounding universal mind.

How long to meditate?
It is believed that with forty days of regular practice is enough to change a habit. This change of habit is confirmed within ninety days. This new habit becomes you within one hundred and twenty days and you can attain mastery over it within one thousand days.

Meditation Techniques

Sit in a cross-legged position with your spin straight. If you can’t cross your legs, you can sit on a chair with your feet kept flat on the floor. Keep your hands in yur lap, palms up. Your right hand should be on top of the left one. Close your eyes gently, but not too lightly.

Next, bring your attention to how your breath is flowing in and out of your nostrils. Just notice how it flows in and out of your nostril, into your lungs and out again only for new breath to flow through your nostrils once again.

Do this for a few minutes. Now, slow down your breathing to about eight or fewer times per minute. Keep your focus on your breath as it goes in and out.

Keep doing this for as long as you can. Begin by practicing this for about ten minutes, then increase to about thirty minutes with time and practice.

If you find that your mind chatters prevent you from focusing on your breathing, you can use a mantra such as ong or sat nam to stay focused. Don’t be too harsh on yourself if you get distracted. This will become easier with time as you continue and as you practicing.

Finish your meditation by taking a deep breath. Exhale. Open your eyes slowly and stretch your arms to the ceiling and hold that stretch for a few seconds. Exhale, and bring your arms down once more.

Introduction to Vedic Arithmancy

Introduction to Vedic Arithmancy

As discussed in other chapters, Numerology is a key to human behavior. Numerologies forget their own identities and devote themselves, totally to exploring the personalities of others. This can be done with many different methods such as the previously discussed Kundalini and Tantric numerology from the first section of our textbook. The method we will be exploring in section two of our Cultural Arithmancy textbook is that of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda can be connected with Tantra and Kundalini numerology through its origins. I say this because Ayurveda, like Tantra, is also a Sanskrit word. Ayurveda means “life knowledge”. Ayurveda is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent and is typically used in Hindu practices. The therapies and practices of Ayurveda have been integrated in general wellness applications as well as in some cases in medical use around the world.

The classic Ayurvedic texts begin with accounts of transmissions of medical knowledge from gods to sages, and then from said sages to human physicians. In Sushruta’s Compendium, Sushruta worte that Dhavantari, or the hindu god of Ayurveda, incarnated himself as a king of Varanasi and tough medicine to a group of physicians including Sushruta. The practice of Ayurveda and its therapies have evolved throughout more than in over two millennia. The varied therapies are typically based on complex herbal compounds, minerals and metal substances.

With Ayurvedic Numerology we will be focusing on calculations that can provide the following much needed answers:

• A better understanding of both our good and bad sides
• A method of accepting our weaknesses, and the weaknesses of others
• A vehicle for discussing these weaknesses
• A joyful way of passing time
• A freedom and escape from our own personal worries
• A good focal point, or method of paying attention and getting attention
• Popularity and respect
• A tool for entering into the unknown
• Friendly interactions

We will focus on developing the following in order to practice Numerology:

• The mind of a scholar researching life
• The alertness of an explorer
• A good memory and pointedness
• An intuitive mind
• Good conversational skills
