Default Joint Lesson: Flying + Potions

The weather is brisk as you head down to the pitch, autumn firmly taking hold with the leaves on the trees starting to turn coppery hues. The sky might be clear and the sun out, but there’s definitely still a chill in the air. At least the dew on the grass present when you arrived for this morning’s SORE exercises has cleared, so there’d be no need for soggy bottoms when you eventually sit down.

Under the hoops at one end of the pitch stand Professors Baldvinsson and Noble, chatting about the latest Quidditch results. Lines of mason jars containing bluebell flames radiate out from them, forming several concentric semi-circles. “Find yourself a jar,” Noble instructs, “And put your cauldron on it ready.” They had remembered their cauldrons, yes?

Class will begin in ~ 24 hours. Class has officially started. You can jump in at any time, as if you've been there all along... Or not.

Patrick noticed all of the people down at the pitch already. He was surprised he wasn’t early since he had come down about 15 minutes early but he supposed that was the nature of going to school with bright people. He was waiting for all of the rules to just start piling up any more it felt like he was in a trance for classes. “morning professors” he gave a curt nod and found a jar of flame to set his cauldron on trying to follow instructions unlike forgetting in muggle studies.

The combination of Potions and Flying together had one, Rylee Caelyn Prichard, highly intrigued from the moment she had heard about it. How the two lesson would be combined together she wasn't entirely certain but non-the-less it was sure to be entertaining.

With her uniform free of any wrinkle and very much completely clean of any specks of dirt or stains the third year made her way onto the pitch. Over her shoulder was her bag as per usual in which was everything she would need for the lesson minus her cauldron which she was carrying in her hand.

"Hello, Professors!" Rylee smiled waving at both professors as she found herself one of the jars of bluebell flames and set her cauldron down on top of it. Her bag was then set down on the grass beside her as she bounced lightly on the balls of her feet waiting for the lesson to begin.

Arts TRANSPONSTER!

Anna was absolutely torn about this joint lesson. She couldn't possibly love Flying any more and... she probably could do a lot better at Potions if she really wanted to. Truth be told, she could never be bothered to try hard enough, though. She DID wonder if the joint element of it all would finally make her Potion go well.

Or make her pay enough attention to what she was doing in order to brew the Potion correctly, but technicalities, technicalities.

"Hello, professors!" The Gryffindor greeted them both with a grin before heading to place her cauldron on a blue bell flame near her fellow Captain Patrick. "Heya! I wonder what the heck this will be like." She whispered. Genuine question was genuine.

Potions. And Flying.

POTIONS. And FLYING.

Sure, Lucas wasn't really an expert on the subjects and didn't know much about either of them but he knew enough to know that this was a WEIRD combination. Weirder than that kid this morning who tried to put cereal on his toast and eat it like a sandwich.

See? Weird.

Speaking of this morning, the morning's SORE exercises weren't the only exercise he was doing. The first year was currently running as quickly as his tiny legs could carry him - or just walking very very very quickly. Class could begin any minute now and he knew that if he walked normally, he was definitely going to be late. Which would only mean that he'd have to announce that he was late and have people LOOKING at him for turning up late and....

....... Breathe.

His very fast walking was only held back by the pewter cauldron he was lugging along but he eventually reached the spot where some other people were, breathing a little heavily and feeling like his chest was going to burst. But he was okay! Why? Because the Professors were still talking about..... teams? Flying? Something that sounded very technical but it wasn't to the class so he wasn't late, yeah?

"Hel....." Oh boy. Come on, Lulu, breathe. "Hello..... Prof.... essors. S-sorry....." He.... wasn't going to explain because he didn't think he had the energy to right now. So, instead, the first year wasted almost no time in setting his cauldron on a spare jar of bluebell flames - which were very nice to look at, by the way. could they have more potions lessons outside? - in an empty spot in the semi-circle and flopping down on the ground.

Hello.

Haraldur looked over his shoulder to the castle as Noble spotted the first arrival. He squinted because his eyesight… Well, glasses were probably needed but he didn’t take long to recognize Daisy. ”Very well, thank you, Daisy. Please have a seat.” He smiled, watching her place her cauldron over the mason jar.

He was definitely feeling the chill, too, like a lot, so Abra could only imagine how badly that would affect his already abysmal potioneering skills. He had, at least, picked out his robes with the most effective warming charms on them today, knowing that they would be outside. Because, you know, maybe it wasn't THAT cold, but to him, it was.

Having lugged his pewter cauldron all the way down to the Quidditch pitch, and then to the hoops at one end, Abra followed the instructions and found a jar for his own use before setting his cauldron down on it and shaking out his protesting arms.

"Good morning Professor Baldvinsson, Professor Noble," he said politely, now wrapping his arms around himself and glancing up at the Quidditch hoops, still wondering what they would be doing today. Was there a potion that let you fly without a broom? Maybe they'd be making something like that.

Another Quidditch player. Haraldur smiled as he recognized one of Gryffindor’s most gifted flyers. ”Good morning!” Too cheerful to compensate for the not-so-cheerful-environment at Hogwarts? Maybe. ”Welcome to class.” Normally, he would have liked his students to bring their brooms but not today. Sorry, kids.

Exercises in the mornings weren't exactly killing him, but he wished he could skip a day here and there like he used to do when he was on his own routine. He supposed it was good for him, but like...sometimes if he stayed up late doing homework, he didn't WANT to wake up early. But he did NOT want that rash on his forehead again.

So, he hadn't missed one since the first day.

Only Daisy and Abra were here, and he sent them both a smile and a nod. He didn't know either of them very well. He did wave at both professors, though, and didn't really know where to stand??? Or sit??? At...so he kind of awkwardly rocked back and forth on the heels and balls of his feet. Professor Noble said to find a jar? So he did. And he set his cauldron atop it. They would be making a potion OUTSIDE? How COOL. He supposed it was worth bringing his cauldron aaaaalllllll the way here.

Haraldur didn’t wave back. He did however give the boy a smile and a nod towards the mason jars. ”Good morning, Lucas.” He looked to make sure the boy found himself a spot to set up his cauldron before picking up his conversation with Noble again.

Her uniform was tidy as always, and she'd started wearing her grey woolen school tights for that extra bit of warmth against the cooling air. Scarf on too, and hair tied back out of her face. She had her pewter cauldron tucked under one arm and her wand tucked into the inner pocket in her robes, and Bel strode over to the area where the class was to be held. Still a bit early too, which was always a good thing. Nice not to have to rush.

"G'day professors!" She included both of them in her eager grin and then following the given instruction, picked a bluebell flame jar, meaning to pick one at random but naturally gravitating to sit next to Abra (and giving him a big, reassuring grin despite the chill in the air), and set up her cauldron over top of the flame.

And... maybe she listened a bit to the professors' Quidditch chatter too. Interesting stuff obviously!

Ah, one of his Captains. Haraldur gave her a nod as she approached the group while he quickly agreed with Noble’s thoughts on the upcoming Montrose Magpies game. ”Good morning, Bel.” He smiled as the Captain who would try to defend the title as Quidditch Cup champion placed her cauldron on one of the mason jars.

Ah, instructions. Guess he would have to follow the rules of the class and actually got get a jar and set his cauldron up outside which was new.

And not something Théo really wanted to get used to.

He would really have liked to keep flying and potions separated like normal.

Haraldur shifted his weight from one foot to the other, chatting absently with his colleague as the students arrived. ”Morning, Théodore.” He nodded towards the others. ”Please find yourself a jar. Class will begin shortly.” He then turned his attention back to the conversation with Noble.

Potions and Flying didn’t mix. WHY was this happening????

Under normal circumstances, the Slytherin would’ve found some excuse to not turn up but firstly, he didn’t want to step out of line with all these new rules floating about and secondly, he didn’t want to face the consequences if Noble discovered he skipped a class. So here he was.

Rather than find himself a spot at one of the bluebell flames like everyone else, Max made his way directly to the two Professors and cleared his throat.

“Uhhhhh. Sorry to interrupt Professor Baldvinsson… Professor Noble… Sirs.”
He took a breath and tried his best to stand tall. Could Professors smell fear? If they could, he was probably reeking right now. “I can’t…. I mean, I don’t fly. Is there an option to take part in the Potions segment only? Potions is one of my NEWT subjects and I don’t want to miss anything y’know….. important.”

Aaaaaaaaand exhale.

Haraldur exchanged a look with Noble before quickly returning his gaze to the Slytherin Prefect. ”Not to worry, boy. You won’t have to hop up on a broom today.” Why anyone would prefer sitting in a dungeon studying Potions instead of outside flying free as a bird was b e y o n d him. But of course he didn’t mention this to the boy in front of him. Or the friend next to him. Instead he gave him a reassuring smile. ”Please find yourself a jar for your cauldron. Class will begin shortly.”

And Max probably shouldn’t mention that he didn’t want to partake in the full class to anyone. The castle was full of little birds eager to whisper in the new Headmaster’s ear… Couldn’t be too careful these days.

How the two could possibly be in any way related was going way over the Fourth Year's head.

Anyway, it was for Aaron's great love of the sport that he bounced (in a cool, totally suave way, oh yeah!) down to the pitch. With minimal fuss, too. There were nerves, since nothing Potions-related ever worked out well for him, but other than that, here he was. His cauldron resting heavy against his hip... Luckily, he'd grown like a weed over the summer months, gaining a few inches and some additional weight, or this might've been nigh impossible.

Coming to a stop beside Captain Bel (cue the heart eyes), Aaron grinned widely at his cousin down the line. It was a goofy, gummy smile, but what of it? The smile shifted into something mildly stricken as he turned it towards the adults.... Prepare for a trainwreck.... Oh, right... After settling his cauldron down on the ground, he quickly retrieved one of the jars, begrudgingly intrigued. "Morning Professors." His Voice was strong as he addressed them. He was not nervous. THIS WAS FINE!

After reassuring Max that everything would be fiiiine, Haraldur looked over his shoulder as another student arrived. ”Good morning, Aaron.” He made sure last term’s Hufflepuff Beater found himself a seat before he turned back to Noble. Now, what about that throw from one of the Wigtown Wanderers’ Chasers?

Was it weird that he felt pride that he had not missed a single SORE training? His condition had gone up, he was actually on time in classes and when he did have to run to a class to not be late, he wasn't out of breath.

Too bad not everyone appreciated the SORE though... Only a handful so far he had seen...

Walking behind a couple of others, Dorian followed them to one of the goal posts where the Professors stood. "Hello Professors" he greeted energetically cause he was ready for this lesson.

Grabbing a random jar with a bluebell flame in it and placed his cauldron on top of it.

”Good morning, Dorian.” Haraldur reached inside his robe pocket for the pocket watch he always used in the Quidditch games. It was almost time to start. He glanced up just in time to see Dorian place his cauldron on top of a mason jar. Good boy.

Giving the men a big smile she greeted Noble first, in the manner she always did... since she knew the man was not a fan of idle chit chat or the like. "Professor," she greeted, adding a nod in as well. See. Personalized greeting for each man. Turning then to the peppy flying professor, she gave him a toothy grin before saying, "Good day, sir! I hope you're well!" And, oddly enough, she didn't even feel an ounce of anxiety today. WOOOOO!

Haraldur dropped his pocket watch when he heard a very enthusiastic greeting that could only belong to one particular Hufflepuff. ”Thank you, Penny. I’m very well.” No need to bring up his bad knee and his frustration and worry about Hogwarts in general, right? Right. ”Class will begin shortly.” Better find yourself a seat before they officially kicked off.

She headed back down for the second time, and with all of her supplies for both classes, as well as a pristine uniform.

"Hello Professor Baldvinsson," she greeted one man, and then turned as the second man gave instructions. Hanna nodded as she said "Good morning Professor Noble." She placed the cauldron which she was carrying onto the jar, and started to unpack her things.

As Penny moved to find herself a spot, Haraldur turned his attention to an arriving Ravenclaw. ”Good morning, Hanna.” Haraldur smiled as she began unpacking her things. She did good to hurry, they were starting shortly.

And despite the fact that she felt like complaining about having to carry her cauldron all the way down to the pitch (not that it was any more work than going all the way down to the dungeons), she was pretty curious to see what they were doing in the lesson.

"Hi Coach B!" she smiled, the glitter around the boils spelling out TROLL on her head glistened in the sun. "Professor Noble," she gave him a more somber look because she still didn't like him. Not that much had changed over the course of a summer. Geez.

And then she found herself a jar and went to find herself next to Abra. "Potions AND flying...? Together...? Kind of weird, right?"

Haraldur spotted the boils and the glitter from far away. It was difficult not to. Although the boils left him feeling more than uneasy (as usual) he felt a little… Proud? For every student refusing to follow all the rules blindly. Of course, he kept this fact to himself. ”Good morning, Zoryn. Welcome to class.” He liked the little firecracker.

Like what to have for dinner, for instance.

He didn't mind potions, and he loved flying, so aside from the LESSON aspect, maybe this would be okay. "Morning," he greeted the Professors, cheeky grin on his face as he found a bluebell flame to place his cauldron onto.

Right after Zoryn found a place next to Abra, a Lion first year made their way over to the group. ”Good morning to you as well, Józef.” Haraldur mused as the boy found a jar for the lesson.

But yes this would be an eventful lesson. Heading down the quidditch pitch with both her broom and her cauldron. Normally it was just her broom and her bat making the trek to the pitch. Making her way toward the end of the pitch where the professors were standing with the others too. ”Good morning Professor Baldvinsson, Professor Noble.” She took a jar with the bluebell flame and headed over to a spot. Placing her cauldron over the jarred flame.

Just when he was wondering where the rest of the Captains were, one of them showed up. ”Good morning, Juniper.” He glanced at her broom and took a step towards her to add; ”Unfortunately, you won’t be needing your broom in class today. I advice you to keep it far away from the bluebell flames.” One thing he did not need was his Ravenclaw Captain without her own broom.

...were they supposed to bring their own broom?

Setting down his bag, he glanced around at the others seeing if they brought theirs and whatnot or if he was just blind to what was going on. The announcement didn't mention anything of the sort, so... choosing a random jar, he set his cauldron on top of it and sat down next to it while waiting.

Could it be as simple as brewing their own handle polish? She hoped not, that was terribly boring.

"Good morning, Professors," she said with a smile before taking a spot near the front, placing her cauldron on the random jar she had selected.

He found himself missing her right now and low key wondering if she would be proud of his progress at the moment. No one was going to get almost squished - though Olivia had been perfectly capable of stopping his cauldron with her own bare hands.

Sighing wistfully, Derf finally made his way over to the crowd and kept a careful eye on his cauldron so it wouldn't knock into anyone as he moved about to gather his jar. "Morning, professors," he greeted brightly as he gave his jar a tap as though greeting the bluebell flame contained within, honestly always chipper after the morning S.O.R.E runs himself, it did a body good and stuff. The only thing about this morning routine that made him feel bad was seeing how some of his classmates suffered through them and all. Though, really, just walking them was permitted and that was low stress.

The waking up early, well, that he could understand too. Especially those who had OWLs and NEWTs and thus late night studying was very much a thing. Which had...its complications now.

But anyway...Derf was positively STOKED for this lesson. Perhaps that was also what had him in such a chipper mood. Though his brewing skills were positively rubbish, perhaps combining one of his weaker subjects with one of his best was the way to help him progress in a more positive manner? A Hufflepuff could hope. Positioning himself somewhat beside his Gryffindor and Zoryn - it was, you know, kinda a tradition that he and Abey fail fantastically together when it came to Potions - he also gave a little wave to Chloe who was standing close by. "I know, isn't it brilliant?" he practically squee'd at Zoryn's question. "I can't wait to see what they've planned. What do you reckon these bluebell flames are for? Ingredient of some sort, yeah?"

Magically conjured flame as part of a brew? So very curious.

And then he noticed Zoryn's forehead....and sighed heavily.

”Good morning, Derfael.” The flying instructor mused, watching the Hufflepuff Beater arrive with his cauldron behind him. As the boy took a seat by his friends, Haraldur resumed a casual conversation with Noble about the upcoming Wimbourne Wasps game.

Not at all in a hurry, Jessa took her time in getting to the meeting point. Her warming charm still in place, she moved to join her classmates that had already arrived. “Hello Professor Baldvinsson, Professor Noble.” She greeted, settling near Derf, Zoryn and Abra. Her spot put her not too far from Chloe too. Small comforts.

She didn’t know what it was...or did but couldn’t pinpoint things exactly. The thing was....ever since the new regime, classes gave the Ravenclaw anxiety. It wasn’t just the classes she suffered through with Fletcher and Scrimgeour, now all the classes made her feel even just a little on edge.

Noble himself was always some reason to be on edge, despite her love of the subject he taught. This term just...it was...a really weird one.

In the middle of pinpointing exactly how Anita Ruslan in the Wimbourne Wasps would increase the team’s chances of winning next game; Jessa arrived. ”Hello, Jessa.” He interrupted his conversation and greeted the Head Girl. ”Welcome to class.” Which would start sooon.

Noticing that there were no chairs or mats, she was glad the dew from this morning was gone. Wet bottom was not a good look.

She chose a jarred flame at random and placed her cauldron carefully upon it before sitting. "Hey, professors."

”Good morning, good morning.” Haraldur nodded as the Hufflepuff joined the group and placed her cauldron on top of a jar. ”We’ll begin shortly.” Very shortly. Actually.

He heard the instruction to find a jar and put his cauldron atop it, so he began searching for the ~perfect~ one. And suddenly he found it! He oh-so-casually walked up to the jar next to where Penny was and said, "Mind if I settle in here?" He set his cauldron down on the jar without waiting for an answer, but of course he would move and probably cry later if she wanted him to... "I figure if you're going to be helping me with potions sometime, I may as well be sitting next to you in class, oh wise Potions Mistress." He smiled at her, his already good mood turning into something like outright chipperness. What had gotten into him this morning?

”And to you, Benjamin.” Haraldur nodded, smiling absently as the young Ravenclaw found a spot next to Penny.

"Morning, Professors!"

Seeing Hanna, she smiled at her friend and made her way over so that they could work beside each other. "Hey!" she said as she placed her cauldron on the jar of bluebell flames in front of her.

The flying instructor absently watched Madison find a spot next to Hanna. He gave her a smile when she greeted them. ”Hello, Madison. Welcome to class.”

Most of all, though, she had the conflict brought about by the lesson including one of her favorite remaining professors along with one that she still suspected didn’t trust her at all. Not that it was entirely her fault she had issue with some potions ingredients. Her protests had been fewer and far between lately anyhow, although part of that might’ve been more because she’d found other things to disagree with lately. This term had turned into more of a matter of gauging which professors were on their side and which weren’t, and since she was currently trying to figure out how she could continue sending her updates to professor Hirsch without suspicion, given the new rule that all letters were inspected before they were allowed to leave the castle. (Currently, her best idea was to address them to “Uncle Roderik” but there was still the matter of how to codify the contents)

Either way, she’d made her way to the Quidditch pitch, cauldron carefully balanced under one arm and trying to ignore the internal debate over not wanting to be back there after the daily SORE exercises. At least her strength was up, and she’d given the professors as bright a smile as she could manage as she chose one of the remaining jars and set her cauldron up as instructed. “Góðan daginn Professor Baldvinsson. Good morning Professor Noble,” she greeted them, settling into a place not far from Derf and the group near him (Abra, Bel, Zoryn, Aaron).

She wasn’t about to stop her traditional greeting to the flying professor just because there was another professor there. Not to mention all the new rules that had been put in place.

As usual when this little (who was not so little anymore) Lion turned up and greeted him, his heart swelled a little. ”Góðan daginn, Stasya.” Haraldur smiled as she joined the group. ”Fáđu ūér sæti.”/”Have a seat.”

Bel was the only Captain returning from last term so naturally Haraldur was very curious to see what the others had in store for the teams this term. One of them was Patrick who arrived shortly after Stasya. ”Good morning, Patrick.” Haraldur mused, watching the Slytherin Captain find a jar for his cauldron.

The flying instructor gave the redhead a smile as she got ready for the lesson to begin. ”Good morning, Rylee. Welcome to class.” One he knew she would probably enjoy.

And so the fourth and last Quidditch Captain arrived to class and just in time as well. ”Morning, Anna, you just made it.” He noted, exchanging a look with Noble. It was time to get started.

Hello.

Just as Haraldur was about to start the lesson a very out of breath first year made his way onto the pitch. The flying instructor fought back a smile as the kid gasped for air. "Glad you could join us, Lucas." He mused, watching the kid take a seat. That was the last one, for sure.

Although Haraldur was usually late for… Well, everything; he never started his class late and especially not a joint lesson with Noble. After Anna (and the still panting Lucas) arrived he glanced at his pocket watch. 10 am. After a nod from Noble and a quick glance up towards the castle to make sure no students were running late, he decided it was time to get started.

”Alright, alright, settle down, kids.” He waited for the chatter to die down before continuing. ”Welcome to this joint Flying and Potions class that Professor Noble and I have prepared. I’m glad to see you all here doing something else than SORE exercises.” Could you hear the venom in his voice? No? Because it was there. The old man had p l e n t y to say but quickly decided not to.

For now.

”Normally, the pitch is where our Quidditch teams practice, scrimmage and compete at.” A quick glance at his Captains here. ”However, whether you play or not, I imagine all of you are aware of how dangerous the sport can be. Some, I’m sure, have experienced that first hand.” If they could reduce the number of students he had to send to the hospital wing and Penelope this term that would be swell though. ”Even if you don’t see yourself as a flyer and you don’t play Quidditch," We see you, Max. considering the recent... “ He glanced at Noble. Changes here at Hogwarts including the SORE exercises, you need to know what to do if something happens.” For once, he looked almost as broody as Noble did. Brow deeply furrowed as he spoke, weighing every word carefully, trying (but failing) not to push his own opinions about the changes at Hogwarts.

The flying instructor took a few pacing steps in front of the group as he continued, seemingly deep in thought. ”Of course it’s important to train correctly to avoid injuries, both wizard and muggle sports, but accidents do happen and overtraining due to strenuous exercise may lead to possible injuries.”

The soon-to-be 70 year old flying instructor stopped his pacing and directly turned towards the group of students. ”Although Healer Macmillan is indeed very skilled. There are injuries which don’t need to be taken care of by a Healer. There is actually a number of things you can do to treat your injury yourself. Can anyone tell me of any home remedies you might find useful? Any common exercises to speed up recovery if you’ve suffered an injury on the pitch? Or off, for that matter.” While he usually liked a non-formal discussion in his class this lesson was a little different. ”Please, raise your hand.” Yes, and thank you.

ooc: There are so many of you here, I’m so happy :3

Question: Mention a home remedy suitable to treat a sports injury and/or mention an exercise to speed up recovery.

Class will move on in ~24 hours.

It was nice being around the Professors who showed slight signs of dislike towards the new regiment. It kind of made the students, at least she assumed, feel justified in their dislikes towards it. But for now, this lesson felt safe.

And now she could see exactly what flying and potions had in common. Healing! The subject of healing potions was very interesting, especially as Hanna had received enough injuries from her own dancing background. Plus flying always carried risk. Raising her hand, remembering one such instance she had an injury when playing on the broomstick at home, she said "Nosebleeds can be treated in the muggle world with compression of the nostril and ice on the forehead and back of the neck." She knew because that's what had happened to her. It stopped within about fifteen minutes, though. "But in the wizarding world, I think there's some clotting potions you could use."

Natalie very strongly disliked flying, but since Potions was involved, she was there. Though she didn't really see how Potions and Flying had anything to do with each other... Perhaps a potion to polish a broomstick? That sounded boring. She didn't have to wonder too long though, because class was beginning. Arms crossed over her chest, Natalie listened to the Groundskeeper, feeling a bit awkward as his voice clearly established how much he didn't like the new leadership at the school.

She tried to ignore it and focus on the lesson. They were talking about home remedies for injuries, specifically injuries that could happen during quidditch. Quidditch was a dangerous game, in Natalie's opinion, and she got worried any time any of her friends went to play.

There were several injuries one could have during quidditch... Natalie raised her hand. "There's a bruise removal paste. My mum has some in the cupboard." She didn't have to use it as often now that Natalie was older and more graceful as a human being, but when she and Liam were younger, they often had bruises to take care of.

Noble never minded talking sports with Haruldur, so it took the first student’s arrival to punctuate their conversation. He was pleasantly surprised to see it was one of his prefects, and he gave Daisy a nod. “Morning, Daisy.”

Another prefect wasn’t far behind, and Noble considered the former Gryffindor Captain’s demeanour carefully. It’d be interesting to see how he’d perform today. He had a strong suspicion potions wasn’t one of his strongest classes, but clearly he had skills in the air. “Morning, Abraham.”

So…what was so difficult about the simple instruction? Noble grumbled first at Lucas’ indecision, and secondly at his lack of greeting. He didn’t need it to be verbal, but it was generally good to acknowledge those at the front of the class. At least the boy’s uniform was clean and pressed. “Good morning, Lucas,” he said pointedly.

Somehow Noble wasn’t surprised in the slightest at his Quidditch Captain’s enthusiasm for this class, and a small smile quirked in the corner of his lips. “Morning, Bel,” Noble greeted in return, before continuing his trail of thought on the how the Magpies needed to work on their defensive play for the next match.

Grey-blue eyes followed Maxton across the field…all the way to where to the two professors were standing. This seemed like an odd occurrence indeed, given the Slytherin usually took it upon himself to sit as far as physically possible from Noble. He didn’t give much away as he considered the boy’s request, his gaze lingering for a moment before looking to his colleague. “Can’t fly, or won’t fly?”

Max didn’t need to know it was a completely irrelevant question…well, not until Haruldur said that, anyways. Noble shook her head, before looking across to the next student heading their way.

His voice might not have betrayed him, but his actions had. Noble arched an eyebrow as the younger Botros failed to follow the simplest of instructions. “Aaron Botros, I don’t believe I said to move the jars.” Merely to find one and put his cauldron on it. “I suggest you put the jar back where you found it, and then put your cauldron on top as requested.” Not on the ground where it currently was.

And Haruldur was switching the topic to that Wigtown Wanderers play? Noble gave a wry smile. It was terrible, and the Icelandic man knew it.

Giving the men a big smile she greeted Noble first, in the manner she always did... since she knew the man was not a fan of idle chit chat or the like.

Oh Zoryn….Zoryn, Zoryn, Zoryn. It was hard not to notice the TROLL spelt on her forehead, especially since for some reason he couldn’t fathom, she had decided to bejazzle it in glitter. “It’s so nice you’ve volunteered your lunchtime to come see me,” he replied to her greeting. “I don’t believe glitter or make up are considered proper uniform. Tad was a bit excited now at the idea of flying with a cauldron. "Hello Professors!" He beamed, despite having a slow morning. After taking a jar he placed the cauldron over it after finding a spot with the others to wait.

Noble grumbled as he watched another one decide that the jars needed moving. Wasn’t it obvious they were laid out in a pattern for a reason? It would have been a whole lot quicker to leave them all grouped together at the front, but no…he’d spent the time laying them out. Why did people feel the need to touch? “Put it back, Thadius,” he said gruffly.

...were they supposed to bring their own broom?

Setting down his bag, he glanced around at the others seeing if they brought theirs and whatnot or if he was just blind to what was going on. The announcement didn't mention anything of the sort, so... choosing a random jar, he set his cauldron on top of it and sat down next to it while waiting.

“No one has told you to sit down, Ryder.” He could perhaps forgive a first year, but a fourth year? Noble gave him a hard look. “And hello to you too.” Yes, we see you.

Could it be as simple as brewing their own handle polish? She hoped not, that was terribly boring.

"Good morning, Professors," she said with a smile before taking a spot near the front, placing her cauldron on the random jar she had selected.

The young Ravenclaw got a nod from Noble as she took a seat near the front of the class. The second year had started showing signs of promise, and he hoped that trajectory would continue. “Morning Nettie.”

She gave a nod to the two professors as she grabbed one of the mason jars, "Good morning,Professor Noble..." She smiled at the potions professor, ... and Professor Baldvinsson Another small nod... Please tell her she wouldn't have to try and operate a broom while here.

She went and found a spot to sit and wait for class to begin, still shifting nervously.

And another sitter. Grumble grumble. “On your feet, Josephine.” Had anyone told them to sit down? No. Was he going to need to start taking points? He’d been here two years now…the students should know that he was more than happy to.

"Good day, Professors!" She selected a mason jar and set her cauldron on top of it.

Noble glanced down at his watch, before looking back to the latest student to arrive. “The same to you, Chloe.” Although whether it was a good day or not really remained to be seen. As she found a jar, Noble resumed his chatter with Baldvinsson about the Wimbourne Wasps game.
SPOILER!!: Derf

It was a good job Noble couldn’t catch what his male prefect was hypothesising the bluebell flame was for; he’d have thought that much would have been obvious from asking them to put the cauldron on top of it. He did seem him move and touch it, but more worrying was where he was headed. Zoryn, Derfael and Abraham all together in his classes was never a good mix, and Derfael was already in murky waters. “Put the jar back where you found it, Derfael, and then bring your cauldron over here.” He pointed to a jar right at the front, where he could see exactly what the prefect was doing.
SPOILER!!: Jessa

The Ravenclaw liked the comfort of staying inside and the atmosphere of the lab. The quidditch pitch was no lab. It didn’t have the elements that made it a lab.

Could the Head Girl move any slower if she tried? Scratch that thought…he’d seen Jessa and Zoryn dawdle their way around the SORE exercises, and had chivvied them along more than once. “Hello, Jessa.”

I mean, it made sense. Why else have them come out here?

Noticing that there were no chairs or mats, she was glad the dew from this morning was gone. Wet bottom was not a good look.

She chose a jarred flame at random and placed her cauldron carefully upon it before sitting. "Hey, professors."

Perhaps the lack of chairs or mats should have signalled something: that they weren’t to sit down. “Archer, I suggest you get back on your feet pronto.” Had they learned nothing from their divinations teacher?

He was extremely obedient and a certified good boy. Truthfully, he was curious to see how these two subjects went together. He wasn't much of a flier... or a potions student, actually... but he was going to give it his best shot today. "Good morning, professors," he greeted his instructors brightly.

“Morning, Benjamin,” Noble greeted as the Ravenclaw wandered amongst the jars to find Penny. Hopefully the Hufflepuff good keep the boy more on track than his usual efforts.

It could be interesting at times.

"Morning, Professors!"

Seeing Hanna, she smiled at her friend and made her way over so that they could work beside each other. "Hey!" she said as she placed her cauldron on the jar of bluebell flames in front of her.

Well Madison was very chipper this morning. Noble gave the Gryffindor a nod at the greeting, before glancing down at his watch. There were still a few minutes to go. Enough time to mention to continue his conversation with Baldvinsson about the Arrows’ match.
SPOILER!!: Stasya

He’d noticed that Stasya had been a little quieter about the use of certain ingredients recently, though he hadn’t put much thought into why. Many students knuckled down at the start of their OWL year, as if they suddenly realised its importance. “Morning, Stasya,” he replied, barely raising an eyebrow at her greeting to his colleague. He didn’t speak the language, but it didn’t take much to hazard a guess what she’d said and why.

The Slytherin Captain obviously knew what was good for him, quickly and quietly following the instructions, and Noble gave him a nod in return. “Morning, Patrick.”

Why did some students feel the need to wave? They might be out in the open, but he really wasn’t that far away. It was enough to earn a grumble from the Potions professor. “Hello, Rylee.”

There were a number of students that had problems with attention span; Anna was one of them. But, given her clear love of flying…maybe things would go better today. Noble could only hope “Hello, Anna,” he replied gruffly.

Hello.

He’d caught that look from his colleague, but before he’d had chance to give the go ahead, little Lucas Dakest had caught his eye running across the pitch. He was one lucky Gryffindor this morning, making it just in time. Thankfully he had the sense to get set up quickly and quietly too.

Leaving him panting, Noble now nodded at his friend and colleague. The floor, well…grass, was his, for the time being. And just in case the students got any funny ideas, he put his hands together behind his back and headed around the semi-circle, brow furrowed, gaze watchful. Were they all paying attention to the flying instructor? They might find what he was saying to be very useful indeed.

He must have been seeing things, oh well. A million blackboards through six years and eventually you think things are written on them anyway. He was not one to be looking sharp right now or really ever. Have you ever seen his uniform? Never sharp.

injuries sucked there was no way around that. They hurt and kept you from playing and you could not rush them or you risk getting injured again. Double bummer there. He knew about RICE and all that but anything above putting some tap on an ankle or using a brace or stuff like that he left to trainers to tell him who to take care of his body. Théo raised his hand.

"Well for just sprains and stuff you can use RICE. Rest it, ice it, compress it and then elevated it. Also, ibuprofen works too but i don't know if those two are home remedies"

They were just common knowledge type stuff

And like he said he left anything more advanced to U17 medical staff and such.

With a slight grunt to Professor Baldvinsson's greeting, he stretched out his legs and lent forward a little to stretch out his back. If they were going to be flying today, might as well be extra prepared despite having ran a million miles that morning and WHY CAN'T HE SIT?

Glancing up to Professor Noble, he made a face before begrugingly standing again.

Shifting his weight, he shoved his hands into his pockets as the class started, though he couldn't help the pit forming in his stomach. Quidditch was still a go-ahead for the term, but the mention of changes made him nervous still. Who knew when the headmaster would make it a rule that the sport couldn't be played anymore. Probably should take advantage of this class then. He hadn't heard of that rice technique before.

Or eyebooprotein. Gross.

"You can walk it off and ignore it," he said, half raising his hand. Y'know, like the pros do!

Phew.

Max breathed a sigh of relief when Professor Baldvinsson assured him there would be no flying today. Thank Merlin. As for Professor Noble's question? It was enough to turn the tips of his ears a glowing red. Can't fly AND won't fly. Although mostly won't fly. Nope.

Hopefully it was a rhetorical question because he was already on his way to one of the jars of bluebell flames in a hurry to set his cauldron up before class officially started.

Home remedies for injuries wasn't exactly one of his strongest subjects despite his mother being a Healer. Up until recently and before the introduction of S.O.R.E, he simply didn't exercise so it wasn't as if he'd had much experience with sports related injury.

Still, he decided to give it a shot and raised an arm. "Shouldn't you just....... rest?" Simple.

Home remedies were allllllll the rage in the Kettleburn family, especially since they had an extensive garden and two very well read parents. Chloe nodded along gamely at the question and some of her classmates' suggestions before her own arm shot into the air. And there was a good arm twist and wiggle for attention.

"Professor! I mean, professors! My mum brews willow bark tea for headaches and muscle pain. It's better than most Muggle medicines and even some magical ones."

Benji raised his hand and offered, "Stretching well beforehand can help prevent injury, but it can also help speed up recovery if you do get injured. Stretching out the injured area carefully and slowly can help it regain its mobility. Ice is good, too. Sometimes athletic trainers will use special tape on injuries, but I'm not really sure how that works." (Or if it counted as a home remedy...?)

Growing up playing Muggle sports like football meant that he'd seen lots of kids get hurt (and had gotten hurt himself, a few times, although his mother always just used healing spells on him when they'd gotten home). He'd seen the Muggle kids have everything from plasters to ice packs applied to skinned knees and twisted ankles...

The fourth year stood as she was told, really she'd just been waiting for class to begin. She glanced at the flying professor as he talked about the risks of flying and sports in general... that's why she avoided both for the most part... Just some yoga with her mom and a run every now and again, that was enough for her to be happily content...

Josie paused at the question though. Things that didn't need a healer? There were plenty of them, yeah? Band-aid's, rubbing alcohol... Just simple things like that... Though surprisingly she hadn't heard anyone say it, so she raised her hand, waiting her turn, "For simple scrapes or minor cuts you just have to clean it out with some rubbing alcohol, put some neosporin or aquaphor over it and cover it with a bandaid and let it heal with time." She nodded, "Or if you've practiced the spell enough you can use episkey to heal small things like a busted lip or broken nose." That's what her father did for the most part actually whenever he'd hurt himself.

Aaron hadn't realized he'd been practically vibrating (with his anxiety), until he fumbled the jar back to the ground at Professor Nobel's reprimand. It was a dumb mistake, no one else had touched them, but his brain had clearly disconnected from his ears or something, because yeah... he wasn't meant to touch the jar. The looming fear of Potions participation never failed.

Please, please just let him make it through this with the least amount of mistakes possible. Amen.

"Sorry, Professor." Rubbing at his flushed cheeks, he quickly ambled over to lug his cauldron back towards the jar, replacing it to rest on over the top. There! That wasn't so hard... He should've done that to begin with... Well, anyway. Professor B. at least offered a smile. The Hufflepuff had found an ally and mentor in him.... and he was starting off the lesson with some backstory! Aaron made sure to get comfortable so that all his attention was on the man. Maybe this would help him relax for whatever they were obviously about to brew. Please, please let it help.

... Heh, this opening monologue was only serving to cause his anxiety to spike. Of course he agreed about needing to be prepared and knowing simple tricks to prevent injury, but... No, no... This was fine. Everything was fine.

He had his hand raised high! Everything was fine, see?! "...How about staying hydrated? For example, drinking plenty of fluids and getting important electrolytes. I guess depending on the injury, you might not be able to move around all that well." Did he mean stuff like this?

Honestly? Nettie knew nothing about home remedies. In fact, she rarely got sick. She usually would get a common head cold, and after about two days of sleep, she'd usually be back up and ready to go like nothing happened. She'd been lucky like that. Good immune system and everything. She DID take vitamins, but she felt like that wasn't what they were asking for.

Jimmy would do GREAT in this lesson. It was all his favorite things - healing stuff, potions, and flying!

Finally, after thinking about it for a while she raised her hand. "I think I heard my mum say once that taking zinc can sometimes help you recover from a cold. I don't know why or how that works, and I've never had to do it myself, but my older brother usually gets knocked out pretty hard from colds and I think he's done it to help shorten it," she explained. She was PRETTY sure that was how it had went. Either that or she completely made that up...

While his cauldron sat perfectly still and in juuuust the right position atop the jar, he listened to Professor B. Home remedies were something his mum was pleeeeenty good at. She wanted to try ALLLLL the 'ancient practices' this and 'home-remedy-stew' that before every going to the healer. Hmph. So his hand shot right up in the air as soon as he heard the question.

"When you have an ache or something...or well, when I do, I should say, my mum always likes to do this thing called MOXIBUSTION. It kinda' hurts," he said with a slight sigh. "It's when you take a stick of mugwort - which I think is just this kind of plant - and put it on the...hurting spot. I swear it DOES work even if it sounds insane," he nodded seriously. "Mum sweeaaaaaaars by it." He had more if the professor wanted to hear more. "It's supposed to have loads more health benefits but - " he waved his hand and chuckled as he shrugged. "Who knows."

HE ALREADY LOVED THIS LESSON. AND NOT JUST BECAUSE HE LOVED POTIONS.

Wimbourne Wasps? Really?

Though Derf kept his opinion to himself there. Quidditch was quidditch, after all, and what was best were well played matches. Though he had not been to one professionally for a long while now. Save for a few that his U-17 team had gone to together for training purposes and bonding. That had been ACE. He sorta...wondered if they could get Hogwarts to take a trip for one...but he wasn't too terribly optimistic in that working out considering the shift in focus this term.

And then class began and...Derf was a little surprised to hear the tone of the groundskeeper. Honestly...S.O.R.E wasn't THAT bad. And exercise was, well, really good for you. What was worse was the punishment in class in the form of exercise. S.O.R.E wasn't a punishment, it was an opportunity. Everything Professor Fletcher did though...that was a punishment.

....and speaking of punishment.

"Huh?" he blinked at the Potions Master, the jar still in his hand. Wait...what? They were SUPPOSED to grab the jars though!? Still, Derf did not question his Head of House, a man who had earned his respect a while ago, and promptly returned the jar from whence it had come before levitating his cauldron once more and stopped where the man had indicated. Okay...but what had he done this time?! He glanced over his shoulder, half hoping Abey would at least follow along because, well, it was tradition by this point that they suffer this subject together.

The sixth year then had a bit of a struggle, but still managed to listen dutifully as the groundskeeper continued speaking and...well... Derf was a little relieved to hear the topic. They hadn't had any healing sort of lectures since Healer Reed had left and Derf had found those very practical and informative. Not to mention real life application and almost on a daily basis. After all, this WAS Hogwarts, and he was quickly reminded of the quick thinking of Bel during the aftermath of the inferi invasion on his own broken limbs. Enough so that he tried to catch her eye to offer a smile - though he would likely be the only one between the two to understand why.

Hand up, Derf offered his two knuts on the subject. "Um...well...after a few of the U-17 practices and trainings...some of us were encouraged to take ice baths for a bit of, um...cryotherapy," he began. "Especially the beaters because of all the weight training. Said to help you recover faster and reduce muscle pain and soreness. Like...in general icing injuries and stuff helps things. I prefer using a bag of frozen peas myself. Molds to your muscles and stuff nicely as it warms from your body heat."

Loveable Gryffinpuff| Stella Bella

Stella knew quite a bit about home remedies for sickness and stuff, her mum was muggleborn after all but she was also a healer. Stella sent alot of time helping her mum with potions, but her mother always told her there were herbs and spieces that work just like potions but for muggles. Although now she thought about it, mixing herbs and stuff was like potions some but not much. None the less, maybe she was going to be excellent at Potions, who knew really.

Raising her hand she looked at Professor Baldvinsson. " Professor Sir, my mum uses Castor oil on me alot when I have a sprained ankle, it got some kind of acid in it I think its ricinoleic acid or so that's an anti inflammatory that helps with the swelling. " she said biting her lip. Ok...was she a know it all? Well....in her defense being raised by a muggleborn she knew alot about muggle things.

Phew, they weren't going to need their brooms this lesson. A good thing, because in the scramble to gather her cauldron and potions supplies, Archer had forgotten it. And the whole 'not sitting' thing hadn't even dawned on her obviously. Though thankfully, her Head of House wasn't being all Fletcher-y about those type of mistakes. So, she popped back to her feet with an apologetic "Excuse me."

As the Flying instructor went on, Archer was feeling better and better about things. Apparently, there were bad feelings all around about the new regime. The students weren't alone. And yes, this lesson could prove very useful, if the morning S.O.R.E exercises were anything to go by. Speaking of which..... "I like to use Icy Hot. You put it on sore joints or muscles and it somehow helps to relieve the pain." She wasn't sure how it worked, actually, but it did.

While Professor Baldvinsson began the lesson, Jessa finally found herself a jar and placed her cauldron on it. Had she been heading to class from her common room she may have forgotten it and suffered Noble’s ire, but that morning before class started, she had things to do that found her in her lab with all her equipment.

The Ravenclaw prepared to feign attention for the duration of most of the lesson but then the Professor started on about injuries and self healing rather than going to the Healer for everything.

As it so happened, this was a topic Jessa was familiar with thanks to some of the accidents in her lab and her subjects that sometimes needed to be patched back together. “There’s the suturing charm as well, for the nasty gashes. Numbing potions to make the sutures not hurt. Pastes to remove the scars when you’re done, unless you’re into that kinda stuff.” She wasn’t. Cuts were taken care of with varying degrees of urgency.

"Good morning Professors." Natasha put her cauldron on a mason jar, watching the little flame until the Professor began talking. After thinking for a minute, she raised her hand. "Depending on the injury, one can do what is called range of motion exercises. They are tailored to the specific injury, but they help strengthen the muscles again, while ensuring the muscles don't grow stiff and even more painful."

HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

Beth had quietly said her introductions to the Professors earlier upon her arrival then she’d…gone, quiet? Standing there in her the trousers her uniform allotted and her attention had been almost immediately grabbed by everyone speaking of the remedies they used…Jessa’s, that was intriguing.

Suturing charms? All of those sounded like brilliant inventions and she wanted to know more about them…was this going to be them healing quidditch injuries? She wondered quietly and grinned at the Professor.s

Raising her hand, ”my mother uses Arnica when my sister and I have any type of swelling or inflamm…inflammation? Oh and she uses this thing with Triphala, turmeric, ashwagandha…” she paused for a moment her voice getting smaller as she spoke ”sh-she practices Ayurveda” the words came out in a rush because…yeah this wasn’t nerve wracking at all?

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy took a seat as her classmates began to answer the question that had been put to them. She honestly was at a loss of an answer that hadn't been submitted but she decided to raise her hand and answer. "I think deep tissue massage therapies such as remedial massage helps with sore muscles."

Default Benji <3

Her heart did that thing where it seemed to expand several times its normal size while inside of her chest when Benji made his way to her. Having been busy setting her cauldron up on a jar she looked up and beamed at him. "Course ya can join me. I'd love that," she said, her face only turning the slightest hue of pink. Heh. But before she could say much else the professors began to speak and her attention was split between them... and the boy she desperately had a crush on.

Raising her hand she gave a sheepish smile before speaking, "Well... mos' everyone is sayin' to ice injuries... but me mam makes us alternate ice an' heat, sirs. Takes the swellin' down quicker and honestly makes it hurt less." That had, after all, only been her personal experience, though. Didn't mean she was right and everyone else is wrong. Just... different strokes for different folks.
