Spent too long watching the northern lights in the Igloo? Starting to feel your toes go numb? Not to worry, next to the Igloo are the Hot Springs. There's no need to travel to Iceland to visit the famous Blue Lagoon anymore since Mr. Baldvinsson has brought some of that magic to Hogwarts.
Its vivid, translucent blue water is at just the right temperature for your muscles to relax and for your toes to regain their former color. This mineral-rich water will cleanse your skin and your mind from all thoughts of OWLs and NEWTs.
Not a big fan of the rotten egg smell? The Groundskeeper would like to state that the smell of sulphur is authentic but to avoid complaints from the students (and the staff): Mr. Baldvinsson has agreed to conceal the sulphur fumes.
This is a place to relax. Too much water splashing, running around or yelling will result in a grumpy Groundskeeper. Best to check if he's around before starting that water fight. Also; swimwear is required.
Quinn pulled off her robes, and crammed them into her, by all appearances, too small bag. They fit easily enough. She stood and scanned the area. There was no sign of either Beth or Lily, though she hadn't expected there to be. They were late, as usual. Beth was likely being Beth along the way, pranking anyone she felt like that happened to cross her path. It tended to slow her down a bit, but she could be counted on to make it.
And Lily...As competent as she was, and she was probably one of the most competent people Quinn knew, it sometimes, and only sometimes Quinn had found, took her a bit longer to do things, or find her way, understandably so when you're coming from the towers and the stairs had a habit of changing on you. They would be here, she had no doubt of that. And as such, wasn't all that inclined to wait. They could join her in the water when they got here. Quinn adjusted her swimsuit slightly and waded into the warm, and relaxing, waters of the hot springs.
Beth was late, again. The funny thing, it wasn’t due to pranking this time. It was all because of that stupid window into the lake…that, that view was absolutely breath taking. Especially when the merpeople and the Squid swam by. She had been wondering if people passed notes while swimming by signing the window’s sludge when her watch dinged.

Stripping down so she was only in her swimsuit Beth grinned over to her friend. ”what d’ya think?” she asked spinning around and showing off the floral suit she’d picked up on the last day of their summer trip together. ”I got it when I went on that little shopping trip with Minnie she made me get it,” she smiled softly before looking down at it once more ”I think…I’d want it more as bedding y’know with more fabric and less strappy” but she knew Quinn would get it. Beth was a floral girl, that had always been the truth about the slytherin girl.

Theres just so much to this Hogwarts place yknow? And even if most people will say it is quite a sight to behold in and out, Lillian can sense there is so much MORE. Forget classes, she can spend everyday and night for the next 7 years just exploring Hogwart's secrets one wouldnt usually look twice at.
But yes she is here now frenz "Hi Quinn! Hi Beth!" the ravenhaired munchkin waved in the general direction of her friends, might be a little off angle and looking up a bit too high, but she can hear the water and the earth containing the water and the steam mixing with the air-- ok wait. Focus on friends first mmkay?
She took off her ninja shoes (which is mostly like really sturdy socks) and her leggings and dipped her legs into the water. "Aaahhhh" very happy sighing here. "We got sorted into different houses-- " something that saddened her for a bit, since she had hoped they would all stick together "So what's your common room like?"

Quinnlin turned and smiled when she heard her friend's voice. "You're always late. I'm come to expect it." This was of course her way of saying Beth shouldn't worry about it. She watched calmly as Beth nearly tripped herself several times getting out of her robes, which once again caused the ironic fact that Beth would get things done faster if she just went slower.
And floral? Quinn should have known. "It's lovely. Suits you." She hadn't gone with Beth on that particular shopping trip, so this was her first time seeing the bathing suit that Beth had been so enamored with. Of course it was floral.
Quinn's own bathing suit was a simple white one-piece styled on the old bathing costumes from well over a hundred years ago.
And then, silent and stealth in the exact way Beth wasn't, Lily was suddenly there, unssen or heard until she spoke. "Hi, Lil. You should get in. The water is incredible." And that was it. Quinn certainly wasn't going to push Lily to get in if the girl simply wished to put her feet in and nothing else. "Yes," there was a similar sadness in Quinn's voice, "As much as I like the Ravenclaw tower and its private library, I think I would have perferred it if I had been sorted into Slytherin with Beth. And for you to have been sorted with us." There were so few people Quinn could easily tolerate, and none of them had been sorted in the same house. She was Ravenclaw, Beth Slytherin, Lily Gryffindor, and Octavia Hufflepuff. Though that last one hadn't surprised anyone.
Quinn thought on Lily's question a moment. "We're both in towers, so a lot like yours, I'd imagine." Obviously the color scheme would be different, but Quinn didn't comment on that. Instead she focused on the details that would matter to Lily. "There's a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw between the two staircases to the dorms. One side of the common room is a laboratory and we have a small private library on the other side. Yours?"
Beth grinned over to Quinnlin when she commented that she expected her to be late. ”at least I wasn’t late for prank reasons this time…that usually derails me for ages” what? Gaslighting people took effort and time and you never knew when those opportunities would just arise.
”I L-O-V-E LOVE YOUR SUIT…so, fresh and you” Beth’s words were slow and drawn out as if with the added pauses and time each syllable had more meaning. Beth wasn’t even lying, she never really lied to Quinn – Quinn was practically sacred as were Octavia and Lillian. Tavy it was too bad she couldn’t join them because of that Hufflepuff meeting.

Oooh so the water was nice and Lil was there? Quinn could see her then…”Hey Lil, hi. Dolly.” Beth smiled at her as she knew even if Lillian couldn’t see it she could hear the smile on her voice. Lil’s question made her grin.
”how’s Gryffindor and Ravenclaw like I….really want to know!?” she asked happily before dipping her foot into the warm water and wading in. ”Slytherin…is cool – there’s a giant window that looks out into the lake…sometimes there are noises but I think it’s the pipes?...” she paused for a second and leaned back against the water. ”my dormmates and I are trying to find someone to help us zhuzh up the place…give it a magical transformation” she turned so she was facing Lillian so she could hear her more easily. ”Annaliese wants pink walls…and I kinda agree that’d be nice with the green of the room…oh. The other day I saw a mermaid swim past the window” she explained with a gleeful squeal.
”also…there are really weird sounds its almost like…clomping – I think one of my classmates is doing an irish jig at night or their an unregistered animagus tromping around in their hooves” she offered with a shrug – really the sound was almost goat-like.

"I've noticed," Quinn said. Her tone was light and humorous, but also matter-of-fact. It was the reason, that Quinn, on average, preferred not expecting Beth until some time after they were supposed to meet up. In this way, whenever Beth wasn't as late as expected, like today for instance, she was, in Quinn's mind, early.
She gave a little twirl at Beth's compliment of her suit, though she didn't actually bother to stand up so the twirl was largely ineffective at showing it off. Most of it remained underwater throughout.
Ravenclaw? Quinn gave them a little shrug, and then, mostly for Lily's benefit, said, "Haven't made my mind up honestly. The common room, and books are nice. The people...." She let her voice trail off. It wasn't that she disliked her housemates, but at the same time, she didn't not dislike her housemates either. She was largely indifferent to most of them. But that was on Quinn, not her housemates. She was slow to warm up to anyone, without something enamoring them to her, and as such, she didn't know how she felt about them. Perhaps by the end of the year she'd warm up to them, perhaps it'll take longer. Or perhaps, she never will.
This was why she had hoped the three of them would get in the same house. Tavy was always going to be Hufflepuff, and besides she made friends easily.
She listened quietly while Beth talked about the renovation ideas for the Slytherin common room. It was only when Beth brought up the possibility of an unregistered animagus in the Slytherin dorms that she got thoughtful. "You should find out." Could be very useful to have an unregistered animagus around, especially one that wants to keep their secret.

"Yeah the towers are pretty cool! I like that we're so high up, we can hear the breeze of the wind, and the higher elevation, feels invigorating and freeing!" In a way its very similar to her home in the mountains. "But wait you guys got your own lab and library? Wow when they said Ravenclaws are brainy you guys sure arent messin' about." the young lioness smiled broadly.
As for Slytherin, Lillian had to pause for a second as her jaw drops open "Wait Beth, did you say you have a giant window into the lake? Like you can see everything happening underwater?" Because Beth saw mermaids! Would she love to meet a mermaid, a brand new presence she has yet to encounter. Then again so far in the few days that Lillian has been at Hogwarts, she's met so many new presence she hasnt felt before. This school was so exciting!
As for the clomping... "Maybe one of your housemates is actually a Faun-- they're just hiding it so people wont treat them no different." And she knew all about that, being treated differently "I could imagine having to wear pants and shoes all day could be tiring for their hoofs and they just want to let it all out at the end of the day. I know I'm starting to miss being able to walk around barefoot anytime I want to." Hogwarts floors were painfully cold, even in the warmth of the Gryffindor common room.
Speaking of, she hasnt told them what her Common Room was like "Well we got a singing doorkeeper lady, very passionate singer, she could use some lessons on keeping a tune though." she added as she made an ouchie face and touching her very sensitive ears. "Inside our tower its very warm, very welcoming and cozy.... and theres just lotsa fabric and stuffed, soft things everywhere." Very homey indeed, but also Lillian thought theres always some kind of fabric sale going on that she's not privy to.

Beth grinned at Quinn and Lillian because it was clearly just what she did. ”I’m planning on finding out – its…a mystery and you know me I can’t not try and solve a good mystery” she smiled for a moment before breaking down and adding ”or convincing someone to solve it for me” she shrugged as that was just how she was.
Beth’s eyebrow raised at Quinn’s comment about Ravenclaw. ”Sooooo are they bad? Or is it just certain people?” Beth asked with a small smile, it was fun really seeing how everyone was doing in their houses. Lilly’s excitement over the common rooms was exciting, the way the smile made the skin about her eyes crinkle with happiness. This girl, she was going to be the happiest looking blind person ever. ”yesss! A GIANT window, and I was thinking the same thing Lil – really…I need your super bat-ears to figure this out” she knew of course that it was Lillian’s senses that were compensating and making her ears hear things others couldn’t….it was neat really.
”soft things…so they don’t have the giant boulder anymore? My cousin Puck told me about Pride rock…which confused me – a rock inside of the Gryffindor common room?” bizarre indeed, ”I’m glad you like it…we just have a giant wall?” she shrugged with a smile before adding ”there is also a secret passageway that supposedly leads to our commons but only housemates can get in there” she explained with a grin.

Quinn dipped her head beneath the water, eyes shut, enjoying the warmth and heat on her face. Perhaps she'd just stay down here, and never surface again. It'd be pleasant life down here. She'd never get cold, not even during the winter. Never have to go home either. Beth and Lily could visit whenever.
It was a pleasant thought until her lungs started to burn for oxygen, and she surfaced, inhaling a deep breath of air. "Door knocker." She responded to the last bit first for no other reason that she suddenly felt like being a bit contrary, but didn't want to be contrary toward her friends. "Bronze one. Shaped like an Eagle. Asks us riddles." So there you go. Just look for the bronze eagle knocker, answer it's riddle and come on in.
For the supposedly smart house of Hogwarts they really did have the dumbest, and probably most ineffective security in who gets access to the common room.
She leaned back and floated on the surface, watching the clouds roll past above them. "No, their not bad. It's just...their not you. And you know me." Quinn had little self-delusion about herself. She knew she was prickly, and slow to warm to people, or let people warm to her if she could help it. She was, simply put, skilled at being somewhat antagonistic. "Popper got sorted into Ravenclaw. So did Oli."
Still floating on her back, Quinn moved herself slightly closer to the girls. Yes. We have a lab, and a library. And they get used. I'm pretty sure our Prefect is doing unforgivable experiments on dead things, but can't confirm that yet."
The name Puck, though, stuck in her head, and wouldn't shake itself free no matter what she tried. "Who's Puck again? I think your Mum's mentioned her to me before once." Maybe even twice.
When she heard that there were hot springs at Hogwarts, Lydia had almost skipped out on a class she was so excited. Going to the spa with her mum had been one of her favorite activities back in London. Her mum was always doing things like that, getting facials and pedicures. She certainly knew how to take care of herself and unwind at the same time. As a result, she'd instilled in her daughter a similar love for all things luxurious and relaxing.
Towel thrown over her arm, Lydia walked up to the edge of the hot springs and dipped a toe inside the beautiful, crystalline blue water. It was hot but not too hot. Lydia shrugged out of the cover-up she'd worn across the grounds. Underneath she was wearing her purple one-piece bathing suit. Oooh, she couldn't wait!
She sank down into the water and let out a deep sigh as the warmth cascaded over her. It felt like her very bones were warming up, and her muscles immediately began to lose any tension they'd been holding. Ok, no, this was her new favorite place at Hogwarts! Opening her eyes, she glanced around. At the moment she didn't see anyone else, and she couldn't believe it. Did they know what they were missing?!

Unlike last term, Rylee knew about the hot springs that were out on the grounds and came prepared. While she may have made a friend last term she didn't quite want to annoy anyone else again.
The first chance she got that wasn't spent in lessons, exploring, or practicing for Quidditch she made her way to the hot spring. As she drew closer she spotted someone else there and smiled softly, at least she wouldn't be completely alone. "Rylee!" said Lydia with excitement as she saw the familiar Gryffindor wander over toward the hot springs. "It's good to see you again. We haven't had a chance to hang out since term started."
Lydia lolled around in the water. It was as if she could feel all the tension and negative energy in her body draining away. If only they had things like this in London! Realizing she'd have to go back home from the summer away from all of this made Lydia groan internally. How would she survive?
"How has the school year been going for you?" asked Lydia. "I feel like I'm struggling to catch up with everything, but I'm having so much fun."

A giggle slipped past Rylee's lips at her friends excitement at seeing her. "It's nice seeing you again too, outside of lessons I mean." They saw one another all the time. Pretty much on a daily basis but it wasn't always easy to get more than a few minutes chat in unless you were going the same in the corridors or were in the same house. "Sorry about that, I've been trying to work my free time a little bit better. I have a lot of different things I'm trying out this term." And by a lot she really did mean a LOT.
Rylee sunk slowly lower into the warm waters until it came to around her shoulders. This may very well be where she would remain all day. It's not like she had anything else to do right now.
Uhh. How was she meant to answer this. Honestly. Sugar coat it. Super perky to keep the little snakes spirits up? "It's been entertaining." Yeah, that would work. There had been some real highs and lows about this term already. So entering summed it up nicely. "Oh? What are you struggling with? Maybe I can help?" Leave it to her to be offering help before she even know what the issue was.

Lydia listened to Rylee talk about what she'd been up to and how term was going for her. She nodded along. "What sorts of things have you been trying out?" she asked. "I tried out for the quidditch team, which is crazy. I don't even like sports that much. I doubt I'll get it, but it was fun to try."
Lydia bit her lip. Should she tell Rylee how she'd been feeling? About how she was afraid of failing and how she sometimes felt like they'd made a mistake in inviting her here? "I don't know," she said slowly. "I guess it's mostly learning magic. It's a lot harder than I thought it'd be. I feel like I'm behind in everything."
She didn't know if Rylee could help or not, but it did feel good to get that off her chest!

It was still early in the term yet where she could still drop a few things but she would have to see how it all worked out for her. "Well right now there's art which is mostly for fun, flying, the bookworms which is a book club, creature companions, drama, dueling club and that's just the stuff Hogwarts offers. I also dance a real lot." Rylee paused a moment to take a breath considering all the things she did which didn't really sound like a lot but probably was. "Oh and I make lots of flower crowns... usually out of faux flowers because I'm still working on how to keep the real ones looking nice longer. Plus lots of visits to the barn so I can help professor Wayland with the creatures." Energy. She had lots of it. Lydia mentioned Quidditch and this ginger smiled widely. "You did! Why don't you think you'll make the team? Did a lot of other Slytherin's tryout?" Cue her instantly curious now.
Rylee might only be one year old but she knew how her friend felt. "It's okay to feel like that, you know. You're not that only one, it's a lot of hard work but it's a lot of fun too. Think about all you're learning, all the friends you're making and all the amazing things you've already experienced." Hogwarts was a scary place for sure but it was also the most amazing place anyone could imagine. "Don't be so hard on yourself, okay? You're still new this." Rylee offered her a warm friendly smile as she moved her hand gently through the warm water in front of herself creating a light wave of ripples. "Whenever I'm having trouble with a charm or transfiguration or whatever it is I'm working on I remember what my big sister and a few of my older friends taught me... focus, see it, feel it, make it happen. Always remember to speak clearly and firmly." A few little tips for her didn't hurt to get her started. Practice always helped too.

This was quite possibly the best thing about this entire place. One of the few things that was actually enjoyable to her was soaking here, which she had taken to doing every day. Meditating in the water tended to help some with her heath as well as her anger management issues.
The lanky brunette child inhaled the crisp air deeply as she stripped to a simple, very covering, black bathing suit. Setting her bag aside, clothes neatly tucked within, she stepped slowly into the water's burn.
It hurt a little at first, but once it freed her muscles up it eased her nerves and nothing hurt quite as badly. Finding a good rock, she seated herself where only her face wasn't submerged and took a deep breath.
Eria began her mediation in the perfect silence of the moment, releasing her pain and anger, allowing it to escape her body as her mother had taught her...

"I tried out for Seeker, 'cuz I feel like quickness is my one advantage on a broom, but some older kids tried out for that too. It was still a lot of fun though! We'll see what happens. Flower crowns, huh? That sounds amazing. Would you make one for me sometime?"
Lydia relaxed back in the water, splashing some of the hot water on her face. It was so soothing.
Lydia listened to her friend's encouragement with a smile. She was so positive. It was one thing she really liked about Rylee. "Thanks, Rylee," she said. "That does help a bit. You're right about the focusing thing. It worked for me in Transfiguration when we were practicing duro. And I have made some good friends, like you! Speaking of classes and such, which one is your favorite? I'm really enjoying Care of Magical Creatures and the Creature Companions club a lot so far!"
For the first time, Lydia thought about what she'd do after she graduated from Hogwarts. Even though that was quite a ways away yet, she couldn't help but wonder. What sorts of jobs were there for wizards and witches? Maybe she could do something with animals.

That was expected. The older kids usually did tryout and because they were older they tended to have more experience in the game and usually got the positions BUT that didn't mean the younger kids didn't have a chance. Last term a few first years did make the teams. "I tried out for Seeker last term... not this year though." Which was okay. There was nothing wrong with mixing things up at bit. Rylee smiled brightly. "Sure! Do you have a favorite flower? Color?" Those were important things to know.
The smile on her face remained. "I hope it does. It takes practice but you'll get good at it." Lydia was really nice, she liked her a lot. "Thanks! You're a good friend too." Her favorite? Just one? Uh... "Care of Magical Creatures for sure and Charms and Herbology."

This was quite possibly the best thing about this entire place. One of the few things that was actually enjoyable to her was soaking here, which she had taken to doing every day. Meditating in the water tended to help some with her heath as well as her anger management issues.
The lanky brunette child inhaled the crisp air deeply as she stripped to a simple, very covering, black bathing suit. Setting her bag aside, clothes neatly tucked within, she stepped slowly into the water's burn.
It hurt a little at first, but once it freed her muscles up it eased her nerves and nothing hurt quite as badly. Finding a good rock, she seated herself where only her face wasn't submerged and took a deep breath.
Eria began her mediation in the perfect silence of the moment, releasing her pain and anger, allowing it to escape her body as her mother had taught her...
Professor Vance probably made a peaculiar sight as she walked down from the castle with sandals on her feet and a pink bathrobe over her pink bathingsuit. It was to go out to the hot springs and enjoy a nice soak in relative peace. She had been running around non-stop prepping for and analyzing lesson outcomes lately so Laurel felt she needed some relaxation in the springs.
Coming down to the hot springs Laurel was surprised to find a student with brunette hair, that she identified as Eria of the snakes lying in the spring water almost fully submerged except for her face, that was visible over the surface. To not startle the girl she called over calmly as she stepped out of her sandals. "Hello Eria, I didn’t expect to find you out here. Don’t you have any homework to do?"
Professor Vance probably made a peaculiar sight as she walked down from the castle with sandals on her feet and a pink bathrobe over her pink bathingsuit. It was to go out to the hot springs and enjoy a nice soak in relative peace. She had been running around non-stop prepping for and analyzing lesson outcomes lately so Laurel felt she needed some relaxation in the springs.
Coming down to the hot springs Laurel was surprised to find a student with brunette hair, that she identified as Eria of the snakes lying in the spring water almost fully submerged except for her face, that was visible over the surface. To not startle the girl she called over calmly as she stepped out of her sandals. "Hello Eria, I didn’t expect to find you out here. Don’t you have any homework to do?"
Eria was so focused on losing herself, so close to her zen...leaving the pain and body behind for a temporary escape........................and then a voice shattered her silence. Talking, why did it have to be a thing? She internally sighed rather than letting it out, as to not be rude. Mostly because she was pretty sure that it was a professor addressing her. For one, the voice was familiar and she was pretty sure she knew which one it was...for two, who in hades asked about having homework besides a professor?

She did not know that her head of house was one of those women. The young snake trained her eyes on the professor's to avoid staring and wincing at the disturbing wardrobe choice.

"I didn't expect to see you here either Professor Vance." Really she didn't think anyone else would come out here now..."Actually, I've completed all of my current assignments Professor." If that was a ploy to make her feel guilty or leave, Ha! You've got the wrong Slytherin for that...

It took several moments before Eria graced her with opening her green eyes to look up at her. It made Laurel wonder if she was related to Flynn? Eria probably thought it weird to see her professor and head of house in a bathrobe and sandals. She wasn’t staring per say which was a plus in Laurel’s book. She hated when students stared at her.
Raising a brow at the response she got Laurel took it with stride and asked "Is it too weird to imagine that a professor could enjoy soaking in the hot springs just like any student?" She kicked off her sandals, took off her bathrobe,and then proceeded to walk into the hot spring in her full body bathing suit of striped black and white and then she took a seat opposite, letting the water surround her. Laurel just relaxed for a moment before she fixed her eyes on Eria "Oh, good on you for keeping up with your studies. Are you helping out in the creatures nursery?"

Lydia nodded. "That makes me feel better, thanks. And purple is definitely my favorite color so anything purple would be great. Hmm, can you do a lilac one? Or maybe lavender?"
When Rylee mentioned her favorite classes, she almost couldn't believe it. "No way!" she cried. "Those are my favorites." She laughed.

Rylee slid down into the warm water a little bit more to get some of her hair wet. The warmth of the water was soothing and it was doing exactly what she had hoped it would in clearly her head as she sat here talking with her friend. The smile that came across her face as she sat up once more to look at Lydia when she said what her favorite color was made it instantly clear they shared at that. "Mine too! Well most colors really but purple especially!" She always wore a little bit of purple even during lessons she somehow managed it. "Purple, lilac or lavender flowers. Now that...I can do." Ideas were already forming in her head and she would no doubt have to check the bin of faux flowers she had up in dorm and if those didn't work she would be owling home.
Huh?! When Lydia suddenly cried out 'No way!' the she was momentarily confused. Then it quickly sunk in. They had even more things in common. "That's awesome! I love Transfiguration too." She giggled shaking her head. This was just to funny. There was also DADA and Potions too as well as Flying. If she was honest she enjoyed most lessons.

As March turns to April, the final cool winds of winter give way to the breezy air of spring, and snow is replaced with rain. Yet there is no rain today, making it the first of two weeks without any sort of precipitation. It is a perfect day to enjoy the outdoors. Perhaps a visit to the hot springs is on your minds...
Unlike the lake, the water of the hot springs is always transparently clear, allowing you to see the very ground of the spring if you so desire. Something shiny at the very bottom of the hot springs captures your gaze. Squinting down at it, you realize that it is in fact just one of many such shiny objects littered around the ground. They are gold coins, this you can determine easily even without getting close. None of the coins are on the shore, all are submerged in the water.
Will you dive under to retrieve these coins? Or perhaps you will use summoning charm?
