Default HoM lesson 1: TBA

Charles's classroom looked much as it and the Great Hall always did. Desks and chairs were arranged in their usual fashion and the ceiling was enchanted to resemble the weather outside. Today it was a sky full of Cumulonimbus clouds intruded upon by occasional splotches of blue. As usual, the history of magic professor is preoccupied with some essay he is writing. He occasionally glances up as a student enters. Find a spot to sit and say hello if you wish.

The only thing different than usual about the classroom was the arrangement of a large blue cooler next to the professor's desk. The word ultrices is written on a paper taped to the top of the cooler. What could it possibly mean?

HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

Beth had come into the classroom around the same time as Quinn, Ewan, and Emmalyn had…which made coming into the room a bit of a sticky situation. ”sorry” she muttered to the people in the doorway before taking a seat near Quinn and not far off from the lil’ ol Reese. ”hey Reese, hey Quinntessential and with a sweep she raked her eyes over everyone else giving them cool collected smiles. She was in control here right? Right.

”Hello Professor…Curtains” really that name should have had its curtains called years ago poor chap, must have been ridiculed throughout his miserable life. Still, Beth was just kind and smiles today and then she gave Ewan a tiny head nod as a hello.

Taking her books, parchment, and a set of self-inking quills out Beth simply turned toward Schmebsters and Reese. ”nice use with the nickname Reese, I knew you had it in you” she even gave the kid a little wink and smile ”Quinnsters, I don’t think we want that to happen, Reese is…what my nan calls a good egg yeah?” she was all sass and smiles but only in the kindest of ways. Then dropping her voice down low she whispered to Quinn ”you’re…captain looks…y’know accomplished?” hopefully Quinnterifica would get it.

Zoryn didn't want to be here. Couldn't they just go to Hogwarts, but like, without the classes? It would be a MUCH more enjoyable experience that way. She would be sure to bring it up to the Headmistress later during their year-in-review meeting. It was something Zoryn looked forward to every single year. She always had LOADS of suggestions for the betterment of Hogwartskind. You're welcome.

Anyways, despite her absolute displeasure for this lesson, the Gryffindor did make her way inside the classroom. "Geeeeez, does Hawthorne give you guys homework too?" That was some essay Professor Curtains was writing over there. Just saying.

And then she went to grab a seat next to some open ones. She'd save the one next to her for Faith, of course.

The Head Boy wanted to be here about as much as everyone else. But he felt that, as a student leader, he sort of had an obligation. So, here he was. Ronan chose a seat towards one of the back corners, though, so that he couldn't be seen if he got too bored and chose to do something else.

Seriously, how did one take a subject that could potentially be interesting (see, previous professors) and make it about as interesting as watching grass grow?

While waiting for class to begin, he chose to let his patronus scurry around his desk. Honestly, this was part experiment to see if Professor Curtains would notice the little translucent meerkat, and part to get under certain others' skin and distract them so that maybe Gryffindor could get ahead in the points department. Plus, he enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be the first in his graduating class to be able to do it.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy entered the classroom and gave the teacher a smile and a "Good morning, Professor." She then waved at Kimi and soon spotted Emmalyn sitting down so she sat down next to her. "Hello," Daisy greeted the younger girl as she prepared herself for the lesson.

To be honest, Stasya had a complicated relationship with History of Magic as a subject. She did find it interesting, but some lessons had definitely been more so than others. The only thing that kept the subject solidly on the side of maybe being liked was the fact so far there hadn’t been any risk of creatures being hurt just for their own benefit. It was just history. Stuff that happened in the past, kind of like the past three terms. Except there were plenty of things from then that she didn’t want to remember.

Plus, she felt like she was obligated to go to lessons, not counting COMC since she’d always go to those lessons not matter what, given the badge on her robes. Although it wasn’t going to stop her from the tenuous thread that constantly was about to break when it came to her going to Potions lessons. This wasn’t Potions, and all the other lessons weren’t Potions, therefore she was okay with going. She’d just taken her time a little, checking on the creatures in the barns and the infant nursery before heading back inside with time to spare to get to class on time. She was handling her responsibilities quite well, thank you very much.

Giving the professor a curious smile as she made her way to a seat sort of near Derf, Jessa and Chloe, she settled in before giving the distracted adult her full attention. “Good day Professor Curtains.” And also hi to those near her, of course. And everyone else who was already there.

History of magic. The one subject he could probably sleep for the duration of the class. But...he was not going to do that today! Noooo.... Nathan Hale would be an EXEMPLARY student this term! No more SLACKING and PROCRASTINATING. No more staying up LATE to play games. No more sneaking out in the middle of the night to get snacks when he's HUNGRY. .....HA-HA. What a lie.

He dragged himself into the classroom and gave a brief nod to the professor. "Hey professor."

He shrugged off his rucksack and busied himself, getting ready his parchment and self-inking quill.
Anyway Max had the right idea with picking the back, Bel reckoned. She greeted the professor as cheerfully as possible given the subject at hand with a quick, "Hello professor!", and then having spotted Max, she grinned and went right down the back and flopped gracelessly into the seat next to him.

"Its not taken, right?" Cool that she was here, right? Claimed by a Bel? Yes? Good? Sorted? Also, would she get in trouble for staring wistfully up at the 'sky' for the entire class? Because honestly, that was kind of a cruel torture in a way, wasn't it? When the last place you wanted to be was stuck inside, studying stodgy old dusty subjects, and the ceiling was charmed to torture you with daydreams of fresh air and freedom? At least there was a better distraction sitting next to her. She grinned at Max again and then started rummaging in her bag to get her stuff out.

.... because it was alright that she'd sat here, wasn't it?

Reaching the door to the room of History of Magic, Rylee removed the sugar quill that was currently in her mouth and placed it into a container that she slid into her bag before stepping into the room. "Hello, Professor!" she chirped in typical Rylee fashion, bright blue eyes already sweeping across the room for an empty seat.

Weaving through the aisles the ginger child flashed Reese a quick grin before slipping into an empty spot somewhere close to the front. Out come a sheet of parchment, her self inking purple quill and textbook. With not much else to do she let her feet swing lightly back and forth, eyes drifting up towards the ceiling to watch the enchanted clouds up in the sky. Lets see just how long this held her attention, shall we?

A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.

Ari poked her head in first. Nope, the lesson hasn’t started yet. She wasn’t late.

The rest of her body followed her in, and she tred past the professor, mumbling an audible ”Hello.”, and squeezed her way through all the taken seats. Maybe she’ll find a place to sit towards the back, so that when- or if - she finds herself drifting asleep during the lecture, it wouldn’t too too obvious. Maybe a little towards the middle, so it wouldn’t seem too suspicious. She has no particular interesting in history, so she needs to prepare for the worst. Although, Ari would approciate it if someone could wake her up for the fun stuff, like battles and swords and knights! Yes, she liked that sort of stuff.

Ari found herself a satisfying location near the side of the classroom and set her blank notebook (which she does not plan to use) and quick and inn on her desk. She sat down and fixated her stare to the front of the classroom, putting on an exaggerated smile for a good first impression.

He was going to be late, he was going to be late, he was going to-

Daehyun had been running for his life, as he still needed to adjust to the new schedule and memorize it. And of course, he was never late, but he always got antsy whenever he wasn't at least fifteen minutes early, which he'd long missed. So there he was, panting and out of breath and his bag halfway down his shoulder as he entered the classroom, to which he was not late.

"He-" deep breath, "-hello, professor Curtains," he nodded quickly towards the man, still agitated from his run - and he was not an athletic person - and scurried to the closest empty seat near the front. Only then did his eyes land on the strange cooler, and the word he wasn't sure he knew how to pronounce correctly. What will they be doing?

He could already feel his eyelids getting heavier and was definitely regretting not having that extra cup of coffee with breakfast this morning. What was it about History of Magic that made him feel so ... sleepy?

"Huh? No... go ahead," Max mumbled drowsily, gesturing to the chair beside him without even glancing at the owner of the voice. But hang on, wait... that voice. There was only one person he knew with an accent like that...

He turned to peer at her and felt himself instantly returning her grin, grateful that she'd chosen the seat beside him. Maybe boring old History of Magic wouldn't be so bad after all.

Lydia entered the History of Magic classroom with only a few minutes to spare. She'd gotten lost when one of the staircases had decided to change when she was on it! She couldn't believe magic could be so inconvenient at times! But finally she'd located the right room, and it was already packed with students, several of which she recognized.

Lydia smiled and waved at Ewan, Rylee, and Beth. She hadn't spoken to Ewan and Rylee since Diagon Alley, but she hoped they remembered her, even though they were all in different houses now! She could see that Ewan was a Ravenclaw. That didn't surprise her at all; he had immediately struck her as the clever type.

Lydia nodded to the professor. "Hello, Professor Curtains," she said politely as she searched for a place to sit.

Choosing an empty seat next to a girl about her own age, Lydia rummaged in her bag for her book, purple quill, and parchment. Arranging everything perfectly on the table, Lydia turned to her seat partner and smiled. The girl was a redheaded Hufflepuff, and she seemed a bit shy.

"Hello," said Lydia. "I'm Lydia. Looking forward to our History of Magic lesson? History was always one of my least favorite subjects back home so I'm hoping this is more interesting than memorizing a bunch of dates!"

Slightly out of breath, Isabel made her way to the History of Magic classroom. Because she had slept in, that meant a rushed breakfast and being late for class... Or not, as it seemed that the professor hadn't began yet. That was fortunate as she didn't want to lose points, but she still groaned inwardly; an extra cup of coffee would have done wonders.

Now she would just have to get through this class without falling asleep.

"Hello, Professor." Isabel took a seat and glanced curiously towards the cooler. What could that be about? What did that word mean?

Honestly, all Vivian could repeat in her mind as she made her way to the History of Magic classroom was that she should not fall asleep in class. It was the last thing she needed to do, but she also wanted to sleep a little bit more. Homework was already starting to pile up, after all, as if that wasn't at all expected. She also quietly hoped that they'd have some more practical stuff so she didn't end up snoozing. Her ego couldn't handle falling asleep in class, especially with her badge.

"Hello, professor," the Head Girl greeted the man with a soft smile before finding a seat. Then she settled right beside Kye. "Heeeeey. I'll apologise to whoever was supposed to sit here but the seat's mine now," she said with a wink to her dorm mate, but she leaned in closer to whisper into her ear. "By the way, nudge me if I start snoozing." It was also partly the reason why she sat beside a friend, a person she could trust.

Who knew seventh years would be so sleep-deprived.

History of Magic was one of those subjects that Cam had to...force himself to focus on. It appeared to be an important OWL to have so naturally it was on his study schedule but it was definitely hard not to get distracted when trying to remember certain relevant dates in wizarding history. Like, he understood that history per se was important but who did it help if he knew whether that specific goblin rebellion had happened in December or March?

Hopefully it wouldn't matter for today's lesson.

"Good day, Professor." He greeted him, briefly eying the cooler that was...not usually there. Huh. After years of attending classes at Hogwarts, however, Cam knew that asking was usually pointless and that he'd find out soon enough, surely. Consequently, he simply moved his gaze away from the item and looked around in search of an empty seat.

Ah. Good. Stasya appeared to have one available next to her so that's where he headed. "Hey." Cam smiled at the Gryffindor as he slid into the chair next to hers. "I don't think I officially congratulated you on your badge yet." He nodded to it, smiling. "Congrats." It was nice, having friends with badges. They deserved them.

Lizzie had pulled out some parchment and her quill and was stating to doodle as the classroom was slowly filling up with students. She was daydreaming of her home. As much as she was excited to come to Hogwarts, especially as a muggleborn, she was slightly homesick.

Her daydream was so vivid that Lizzie didn't even realize someone was sitting was next to her until the other student started talking.

Lizzie turned toward the other girl, who looked to be the same age as her, and smiled. She maybe shy, but Lizzie was not rude!

"Hello Lydia! I am Elizabeth, but you can me Lizzie if you want." , she introduced herself to the dark haired girl "I am excited for this class. I am from a non-magical family, so any magical class is exciting for me."

Lostlostlostlostlost. That's how Dezi was. He had thought he was getting better at this "living in a massive castle" thing because he hadn't gotten lost the day before but clearly that wasn't true because there he was: lost, again. Lost and late and hungry. He knew he had to walk down a gazillion stairs to reach the Great Hall but, frankly, he had lost count of how many flights of stairs he had run down. The moving staircases hadn't helped either!

Honestly, the first year Gryffindor was completely confused.

But then, just as he was about to give up, a miracle happened. He followed older students. Okay, so it wasn't a miracle, it was an easy enough strategy. And mercifully, the older students led him to the Great Hall. Not really paying attention to his surroundings, the eleven year old made his way to his house table. Only then -- and only because there was a suspicious lack of food -- did he look around.

HUH.

"Sir!" And really, how was he meant to know that man was a professor. He was new here. "Is our breakfast on that cooler, then? Do we have to get it?" He just wanted his FOOD, Hogwarts, why make it so difficult??

Grinning, he reached for the book, a wide smile spreading across his face. “Thanks Quinn!”. With a mischievous smile, he continued, “don’t worry, if its damaged at all, you can feed me to the crocodile”. Knowing Quinn would understand his reference, he turned to the other children on the table. Eying Reese for a moment, he smiled gingerly, “Hey Reese”. Having only talked to Reese briefly in Diagon Alley, he couldn’t really judge him. Finally, he turned to Beth. “Hey B, how’s the manipulation going?”.

Reaching around, he grabbed his rucksack and carefully placed Quinn’s copy of Peter Pan inside. It was a small gesture, but he appreciated it.
Turning now as the room filled, he spotted a few more people he knew! Smiling back now, he gave a little wave at Lydia. It had been a while since he’d spoken to her last. Diagon Alley, actually.

Lydia was looking toward the front of the classroom. Was that a cooler? She wondered what was inside. Maybe the lesson wasn't going to be super dull after all. Maybe History of Magic wouldn't turn out to be her least favorite class like she suspected it might.

Turning to her seat mate, Lizzie, Lydia smiled. "Oh really? I'm a Muggleborn too! How did you react when you found out about all of this?" She waved her hand as if to encompass all of Hogwarts.

"At first I thought someone was playing a practical joke on me," said Lydia. "Now that I'm here though, I'm excited too. Even history can't be too bad if it's about magic, right?"

SPOILER!!: Replies!
Text Cut: Kimi!
Kimi entered the history of magic classroom and said "Good morning Professor" Kimi took a seat in the middle of the class and not too close to the front and waited for the lesson to begin

"Why thank you," Charles greeted the first student (a Hufflepuff)cheerfully, looking up from his work. "Good morning to you too."

Text Cut: Dorian
DuckyLinJi;12326944]
"Hiya Professor" he greeted and leaned forward to see what he was writing. He wasn't intentionally being rude, he was just curious

Next was a Ravenclaw. "Good morning Dorian."He looked like he was trying to read what Charles was writing. That was okay. It was just an order form to Hogsmeade for more school supplies. Speaking of which...

"Underneath the hood of your desk are a set of spare quills and writing material. Feel free to take whatever you need."

Text Cut: Quinn

Her probing, scrutinizing stare locked first on the cooler, her brow furrowing slightly in thought, and then made its way up to Professor Curtains, studying him with the same singular focus that he was himself devoting to whatever it was he was writing.

Could he feel her eyes?

It was unlikely he would notice students if they weren't being noisy, unless he were to look up by chance as one passed by. This would go on for another ten minutes or so until the lesson was ready to begin. He did not notice the Ravenclaw as she made her way over to her chair to begin watching him intently.

Text Cut: Maxton
"Professor Curtains," Maxton gave the teacher a polite nod as he greeted him and moved to a spot near the back of the classroom just like he always did. It had become almost a habit now. He felt safer at the back. This way he didn't have a bunch of eyes on the back of his head and he was less likely to be called out. Or so he hoped, anyway.

"Greetings Mr. Carden," Charles said with a small glance at the speaker, returning the Slytherin's polite greeting cheerfully. "Hope you are well today."

Text Cut: Jessa

"Hello Professor." She half mumbled half spoke, moving to take her usual seat. Today the ceiling received none of her attention, nor did the cooler that would otherwise....maybe have gotten a question or two out of her.

He did not even have to glance up to know who had just spoken. That kind of unenthusiastic greeting could only have come from Jessa Cambridge, someone who he knew was bored with the subject. Or maybe she was just bored with his teaching methods. That was understandable. Most of the other teachers employed physical activities in their classes while he asked for essays and gave lectures. But just because he understood her boredom did not mean he would allow her grades to slip!

"Good morning Jessa. I hope you are well."

Text Cut: Emmalyn!
Time for class! She scampered into the room, taking in the beautiful ceiling and noting the cooler next to dest, before offering her greeting to Professor Curtains. "Good day, sir, I trust you are well." Her smile was genuine and she eagerly took a seat near the professors desk. She didn't want to chance missing out on anything.

After choosing her seat, she took out her required supplies and neatly arranged them on the desk before her. The term was still new and her supplies were still fresh and full of possibilities. She wondered what their condition would be, towards the terms end, after months of heavy use.

Once settled, she glanced around and only noticed one other Hufflepuff, Kimi. She gave him a nod and hoped their other housemates would be arriving before the start of class. She was especially worried about Daisy. With all that had gone on the past several weeks, she didn't know if her friend would be feeling well enough to attend class.

How nice to see someone enthusiastic for History of Magic! Of course this was something Charles had come to expect from the Hufflepuff. "Good morning to you too, Ms. Walsh. I am very well, thank you for asking. I hope you are too." Hopefully she would appreciate the lesson.

Text Cut: Ewan
Full of joy, Ewan entered the classroom, ready for his very first lesson! Excited to learn more about the History of the magical world, he sat down at close to the front. As he sat, he plumed his bag onto the desk and pulled out his textbook, quills and parchment. Using quills was still fairly new to him and seemed strange in all honesty but it did not bother him in the slightest. He was ready; He was eager; He was... sitting on his own.

Looking around now, he recognised a few of the other children.

"Hey Emmalyn"

"Hey Quinn"

Smiling and giving them a small wave, unsure if he should go and sit by either, he turned back to the Professor sitting at the front. "Good morning Professor! I should warn you... I know very little about wizarding history!. With a faint laugh, he picked up his quill, ready to learn, not fully comprehending that the professor was occupied with whatever he had in front of him.

Well now, who wouldn't love this students eager to learn attitude? Charles smiled at the first year. "No need to worry, Mr. Jones. I don't expect anyone to know very much about history right away. History is a subject troublesome even to many adults. It really is a fascinating subject, though, for those receptive to learn."

And he sensed this one was eager to learn.

Text Cut: Skylar
History of Magic was one of those lessons that Skylar was indifferent over and in all honesty, she probably shouldn't have bothered committing to a NEWT for this class, but on the other hand, it was typically an easy grade booster. Memorization of random facts of dead guys? Yea, she could do that. Also, Professor Curtains humored her for some bizarre reason. But not in the comedy sort of way; it was a unique humor.

Noting him writing some sort of essay thing, she only hoped this wasn't instructions for an essay they might have to do later. Or if they DID have to write an essay, could they get to go leave class early and go write it wherever they wanted? The weather was still moderately decent and Skylar would definitely have preferred writing outside than inside the stone castle walls.

"Good day, Professor Curtains," she greeted, hoping to not distract him too much, but she did take in the note on the cooler and smiled because ultrices was a Latin word. Hattie might have made fun of her for all the classes and electives she took, but Latin was dead useful. No pun intended by use of 'dead' either. And she took a seat near the front, because if her prediction based on her Latin translation was correct, she definitely wanted to be first to the cooler.

"Good day to you too, Miss Diggory, hope you are well," Charles said cheerfully, noticing how she smiled at the cooler. Ah, so she knew what that word meant? Count him impressed.

Text Cut: Patrick
Pushing a hand through his slightly damp hair, Patrick shuffled his bag off of his shoulder and began heading toward the front of the room. He noticed a few Ravenclaws in the room already. He saw another Slytherin (Maxton) but he wasn’t exactly sure who he was. It was as if Patrick forgot how to student all of a sudden. He was running late this morning, nearly forgot to shower, not to mention, his sweaters were all smaller. He needed to owl his mama to get him some new ones, he sure hoped that they weren’t all going to be outgrown by Winter holiday.

Slipping further into the room he noticed Professor Curtains sitting at the front of the room. Sure Professor Curtains was one of the nice professors, but sometimes he gave him an odd vibe and he wasn’t sure what to do with such a vibe. Noticing Skylar at the front of the room he figured he should be a better student and maybe sit in the second row. No way would you catch him in the front row, that was wayyy too close for him... even if he was a suck up to the Professors. He needed all the house points he could get.

“Hello there professor.”
He figured that Professor Curtains wouldn’t even look up from the . He figured he shouldn’t be rude, “hey Sky, I didn’t think you were taking this class this term.” his brow furrowed a bit.

He did glance up as the Slytherin greeted him, but only for a moment. Then it was back to the order forms. "Good morning young Patrick. I hope you are well." Why he called some students by their surnames and others by their first names was really rather random. Some students he would call by their first names one day and their last names another.

Text Cut: Anna
[COLOR="DarkRed"]Anna was not going to lie. History of Magic was one of her least favourite subjects and she kind of couldn't wait for the day she could choose not to study it anymore. Okay, some of it was interesting, but overall... it wasn't really.

It was pretty much memorising and, really? She wasn't a big fan.

Aaaanyway, she was still there because, y'know, school and all. She kind of had to. She'd try to keep her mind there too, alright? Alright! No promises, though.

"Hey!" The Gryffindor greeted those she knew with a smile and quick wave before taking her usual sit somewhere in the middle of the room. "Hi, professor!"

"Good morning Anna," he replied, this time not even glancing up to see who had spoken. He recognized the voice so he didn't have to. She seemed cheerful today. That was good.

Text Cut: Kirk
So Kirk didn't have any reason to drop History of Magic for his N.E.W.T's year. Why would he? Sure the subject tended to be on the dry side, but it seemed fitting to keep his knowledge on history. Especially for when he graduates and goes about his merry way with his future career. What was different this year was, well, he didn't have Mel to sit with, who had a knack for keeping him more focused in class... sometimes.

"Hello Professor." Kirk kept it simple, the man looked too preoccupied anyway for small talk. He went towards the back before leaning back in his chair to stare up at the ceiling... No stars, but he could shape some clouds while waiting for class to start at least.

"Good morning Mr. Forsfelle," he returned the Ravenclaw's greeting without looking up. He was almost at the end of his essay now. Very soon he would be able to greet them properly...

Text Cut: Juni
Time for another History of Magic lesson, and honestly the fifth year was ready for it. It wasn’t her favorite subject but it was one one that she was pretty good in. She did on occasion enjoy a good History lesson, by far it was better than Muggle studies. As she made her way down to classroom she stopped just before walking in and stretched. Man tryouts had really kicked her butt yesterday, her arms were killing her.

”Hello Professor.” She gave the history of magic professor a small nod as she walked past heading to her seat. She looked around to see who all was already there. She waved at her people and took a seat somewhere in the middle of room. Come on let’s go. She was ready to get this lesson started. Oh look at the ceiling. At least that would keep her busy until the lesson started.

"Good morning Juni. Hope you are well today." He liked this Ravenclaw student. She usually did fairly well on History of Magic. Her grades were never bad here. Top rate student, this one.

Text Cut: Junia
History of Magic had never been her favorite, but Junia felt the need to excel at everything this year because why not just pepper a bit more pressure onto that whole seventh year plate of hers, hm? She slipped into the room with her hands clasped and looked around for a seat. The one by the Ravenclaw Captain was as good as any, so she headed in that direction, offering the distracted looking professor a smile when she caught his eye. Hi, hello, we're here.

Hopefully this lesson wouldn't be too much of a snore.

He was too engrossed in finishing his final order form to notice as Junia walked into the classroom and found a seat. That was okay. He did not expect to be able to greet each student separately. It was nothing against any of them. He was not one of those professors who demanded a hello from everyone at every lesson.

Text Cut: Maddie
Maddie had big plans for this school year, and part of those plans included doing lots better in her classes. The other parts of her plan included doing something to help Hufflepuff win the house cup. I mean, Slytherin couldn't win every year, could they? Maddie headed up to the third floor and toward the History of Magic classroom. This class was one of her favorites. It wasn't her favorite, but it wasn't Arithmancy or something terrible like that either.

Walking into the classroom, Maddie spotted the professor. He looked busy writing something down, so she started not to bother him. Other people were greeting him, though, so a quick hello couldn't hurt anything, right? "Hello, Professor!" she said. She was pretty proud of herself for not YELLING that greeting like she usually did. The ceiling looked awesome, and she couldn't help but reading the letters on that mysterious blue cooler. Her eyes squinted at the word, but she never could make out what it said, so she just headed to a seat to get ready for class to start.

"Why hello to you too, Maddie," Charles said cheerfully, looking up just to make sure it was Maddie who was addressing him. Oh good, it was. Sometimes he got students names wrong when he assumed. "I hope you are well this morning. Find a seat. Class will commence shortly." And he went back to writing...

Text Cut: Derf!
Derf had not slept. He was already a bit overwhelmed with prefect duties, OWL studying, quidditch tryouts....and there was also a little black haired beetle winged something something he had named Brokkr who he had found on the grounds just before sundown caught in a web. One of his wings was broken and, well, Derf couldn't just leave him there sooooo...he had collected the creature who decided to be nocturnal and...yeah. The Hufflepuff had more than just bags under his eyes as he entered the classroom - some visible bite marks and scratches - and the moment her stepped inside he was confused. Hadn't he just left the Great Hall and...what?

Rubbing his eyes A LOT, tried looking for his house table since, well, that would be where he was supposed to sit, right? Only everyone seemed to be mingling so he went for comfort and plopped himself down beside Jessa ..... and then his eyes crossed looking at her book because what alternate reality had he just stepped into? The cover of her book said one thing...but the page she was on was...

"Uuuuuugh," he moaned as his forehead slammed down on the table in front of him.

The cooler went unnoticed, not that the fifth year knew enough Latin TO know and he hadn't signed up to take that extracurricular lesson with Professor Noble. Maybe next term.

And the professor seemed busy, so no need to interrupt the man, yeah?

He did not notice as the prefect came in and made his way over to a desk. He was, after all, writing and so was unlikely to notice a student unless she or he made some noise.

A moment later that was just what this one did. Charles looked up in mild concern at the sight of Derf's forehead slammed on his table. "Are you all right, Mr. Hawthorne ?" It was understandable if he was exhausted from prefect duties.

Text Cut: Reese
Reese made his way to History of Magic class and saw the professor bent over his desk scribbling on a bit of parchment.. " Hello, Professor.. Beautiful day out, eh? ", he giggled pointing to the charmed ceiling.. Always willing to offer a well worded wise-crack he was.

"It is indeed a beautiful day, Mr. Prichard," said Charles, smiling appreciatively at the boy's comment. "I myself have always admired the billowy beauty of the Cumulonimbus clouds. Usually a prelude to storms, but beautiful to look at hours beforehand."

Text Cut: Abraham

So he was quiet and unobtrusive and kept his head down as he slunk into the classroom and took up a seat quite close to the door. It was just nice to know he had some sort of exit strategy planned if things went super wrong. That didn't exactly help Abra with the simple problem of just being bad at History of Magic, but... well, he was still working on that part.

Being momentarily busy, Professor Curtains did not notice those students who were not making any noise as they entered. He was not one of those professors who got upset if a student did not say hello, so even if he did notice it is unlikely he would have said anything.

Hopefully this lesson would not be as bad as Abraham dreads...

Text Cut: Trinetta

Today, her usual seat near the front had already been taken, so she plopped down next to the older Hufflepuff girl she'd met on the train. "Hi again!" she piped up before giving a wave to Professor Curtains as well.

That was another thing that had confused her for a bit. Curtains. She thought at first she had simply misheard, or mistranslated from French, but nope. That was his name. So odd.

Now he was finished with the order forms he had been writing. He sealed them inside a large envelope and set it aside. The students would have his undivided attention now. It was probably a good thing that it was that moment that he finished, or else he might have missed the young Ravenclaw's wave. "Good morning Trinetta," he responded cheerfully. Enthusiastic students were always encouraging.

Text Cut: Kye
[COLOR="DarkOrchid"]
"Hello Professor! Hope you're doing well today!"

"Good morning Kye. I am well, thank you for asking. I hope you are well too." And he noticed her sugar quill. "Nice quill." Yeah, he didn't mind. As long as she didn't start eating it, of course.

Text Cut: Chloe
[color=darkorchid]History of Magic wasn't exactly an exciting class, but as the daughter of an archaeologist, Chloe Kettleburn had a healthy appreciation for all things history related. She skipped into the classroom and waved at the professor with a cheerful smile. "Good day to you, Professor. And I mean that the day is good and that I am wishing you a good day, because that's a very confusing greeting."

"Why hello Chloe," he greeted the cheerful student pleasantly. Her next words impressed him. It reminded him of an old classic he had in his little library. "I agree, that can be a confusing greeting. For instance, saying good morning could mean you are wishing someone a good morning like you said, or it could mean that the morning itself is good independent of your desires that another person has a good morning, or it could mean that it is a morning to do good deeds on. Well noted, well noted." And the book that this conversation reminded him of was the Hobbit.

Text Cut: Beth
[COLOR="#2E9981"][FONT="BODONI"][indent]
”Hello Professor…Curtains” really that name should have had its curtains called years ago poor chap, must have been ridiculed throughout his miserable life. Still, Beth was just kind and smiles today and then she gave Ewan a tiny head nod as a hello.

"Good morning Beth," he said, his attention now on the students as his work was finished. Well, his writing work was finished. The lesson would be starting in just a few minutes.

Text Cut: Zoryn

Here comes Zoryn. "Good morning to you too Ms. Spinnet," he said, though she hadn't said good morning. He chuckled softly at her suggestion that Regina was giving them homework. It wasn't that far from the truth. "Technically yes. I am ordering more school supplies, that's what these forms are for. Settle down, lesson will begin shortly."

Text Cut: Ronan

Out of all the students he had taught, Professor Curtains believed Ronan to be one of the least enthusiastic with his methods - and that was saying a lot since about half of the student populace had expressed boredom with his methods in the previous term. That was all right...provided their grades didn't slip.

"Wands away for now, Mr. Carter," he reproved the head as the Patronus skirted around the desk. Though it was impressive magic.

Text Cut: Daisy
Daisy entered the classroom and gave the teacher a smile and a "Good morning, Professor." She then waved at Kimi and soon spotted Emmalyn sitting down so she sat down next to her. "Hello," Daisy greeted the younger girl as she prepared herself for the lesson.

"Thank you Ms. Swann, and good morning to you too. I hope you are well." He gave a brief smile back to the Hufflpeuff before returning his attention back to the door.

Text Cut: Stasya

"Good day to you too. I hope you are well." He smiled vaguely at the Hufflepuff as she entered the classroom and went to sit down. His mind was elsewhere at the moment.

Text Cut: Nathan
History of magic. The one subject he could probably sleep for the duration of the class. But...he was not going to do that today! Noooo.... Nathan Hale would be an EXEMPLARY student this term! No more SLACKING and PROCRASTINATING. No more staying up LATE to play games. No more sneaking out in the middle of the night to get snacks when he's HUNGRY. .....HA-HA. What a lie.

He dragged himself into the classroom and gave a brief nod to the professor. "Hey professor."

This one seemed rather energetic. A lot of them were like that this morning. That was great. "Hello Nathan. I hope you are well today."

Text Cut: Bel
[COLOR="goldenrod"]Anyway Max had the right idea with picking the back, Bel reckoned.

"Hello to you too, Ms. Macindoe. Find a seat and make yourself comfortable. Lesson will commence shortly." In about five minutes to be precise...

Text Cut: Rylee

He smiled at the enthusiastic sounding Gryffindor. "Hello Ms. Rylee Prichard! Find a seat. Lesson will commence in five minutes."

Text Cut: Ari

"Good morning Ms. Wedgwood," Charles said, catching himself just in time. For some reason he had been about to call her "Rylee." Sometimes Professor slipped up when there were so many students.

Text Cut: Daehyun

And he could tell this one had been running! Very good of him to do so, since lesson was about to begin. Charles beckoned him into the room. "Hello to you too, Daniel. Don't worry, lesson hasn't started yet. It's about to, though. Find a seat and make yourself comfortable."

Text Cut: Elizabeth
Little Elizabeth Simmons walked into the History Of Magic classroom. She glanced around and notice some of her fellow Hufflepuffs, but due to her extreme shyness she hasn't introduce herself to anyone of her house mates.

With a mumbled "Hello Professor", she went to find and empty chair and waited for the class to started.

"Hello to you too, Elizabeth," Charles said, smiling kindly at the shy first year as she moved to find a seat.

Text Cut: Lydia

"Why hello Lydia," he said, smiling at the Slytherin first year. "Find a seat and make yourself comfortable. Lesson is about to commence."

"Hello, Professor." Isabel took a seat and glanced curiously towards the cooler. What could that be about? What did that word mean?

"Hello Isabel," he cheerfully greeted the slightly out of breath Gryffindor. "Make yourself comfortable. Our lesson is about to begin." And you will find out soon enough what is in the cooler.

"Hello, professor," the Head Girl greeted the man with a soft smile before finding a seat.

Here came the Head Girl. "Hello Vivian, just in time! Make yourself comfortable. Lesson will begin shortly."

[COLOR="#234761"]History of Magic was one of those subjects that Cam had to...force himself to focus on.

"Good day to you too, Mr. Tamesis. Just in time!" Now their lesson was due to begin. He was just about to flick his wand in the direction of the door to close it when another student walked in.

"Sir!" And really, how was he meant to know that man was a professor. He was new here. "Is our breakfast on that cooler, then? Do we have to get it?" He just wanted his FOOD, Hogwarts, why make it so difficult??

Another student came bursting in right before he was about to close the door. Very good. Charles chuckled at the question. "You are much closer to the mark than you might realize. That strange word written on the paper is Latin for Ice Cream. Now make yourself comfortable."

Charles finished sealing up the order forms inside their envelopes. He then set them aside in a pile on the left side of the desk. After the lesson was finished he would visit the Owlery to drop them off.

"Good morning class," he began. "I know many of you are probably wondering just what is in this cooler. Those who have studied Latin extensively might have a clue." Skylar, for instance. She seemed like she knew the delights of ultrices. "The word ultrices means ice cream in Latin. Yes, that's right. There are small packets of ice cream inside this cooler. They come in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Most of them are traditionally made, but I have some vegan ice cream set aside since I hear a few of you are vegan. But let's move away from ultrices for a moment." They would come back to it later!

There was a small announcement he had to make before the class could begin. "Those of you who were with us last year may remember a lesson in which you were asked to come up with one rule change you would like to see implemented at Hogwarts. There have been some technical delays in making it official, but I am proud to announce that Headmistress Hawthorne has selected one of the most popular proposals you guys came up with to be officially implemented into our Hogwarts rulebooks. By order of Patrick Dooley, from this day forward all students shall be allowed to have casual Friday’s." Patrick was in the room with them right now. Hopefully they were all pleased with the rule change!

He let them soak it in a for a few minutes before continuing. "Right. Well done, everyone! Now, on to today's lesson. Let's start with a question. Who is your favorite fiction writer? You can name more than one if selecting just one is too hard."

OOC: Woot so many posts! Sorry if I missed anyone in the replies. If you are late, just pretend you werehere all along. Class will commence in 24 hours!

Oh, he knew! He knew the Hobbit! Chloe wiggled around in her seat, and if she'd had a tail, it would have been wagging. He's so clever, this professor.

It was a shame they were dealing in Latin today, which was not Chloe's best language. She was great with Egyptian hieroglyphics, she was fluent in French, and she was very interested in learning Mermish and Gobbledygook. Her Latin was just... passable, maybe, and only the words she found interesting. She found ice cream very interesting, though, and yet, she still didn't know the Latin word for it. Until now. LEARNING was amazing.

So amazing, in fact, that Chloe missed the announcement about casual Fridays. Like... how casual? Pajamas? COULD THEY HAVE A PAJAMA PARTY? Chloe's eyes went all round and excited, and it took all of her integrity as a fifth year to keep her from blurting that question out loud.

Her tail was wagging again, though, and Chloe's hand shot up into the air. "I like Brynn Tate. She writes those Aquila Albert stories... my mom and I used to read them together when I was little. I know they're a little babyish, but I still love them."

A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.

"Those who have studied Latin extensively..."

Wait, what? Ari scratched her head. Are there students in this classroom who have studied Latin extensively? That seemed like an incredible feat, since Ari have heard that Latin is a difficult language to learn. Also, why were they talking about ice cream again? Ari knew that the ancient Romans were fierce warriors and, occasionally, interesting intellectuals, but she didn't know that they had the leisure to enjoy ice cream too.

Also, casual Fridays? Ari wasn't sure how to react to that. She doesn't own many clothes, so she might just wear her robe uniform anyway, so she wouldn't have to worry about picking out clothes to wear. That seemed like something her sister would enjoy, though. Although, at Beauxbaton, the girls' uniforms are much more fashionable.

Favorite fiction writer? Hmm... that is a toughie. Ari isn't particular fond of books, and she hasn't read much, either. Most of the time, especially when she was younger, her father would read to her before she went to bed. She would usually fall asleep before the end of the chapter. Hmm... what were they? Ari had to think about it for a moment. "I like whoever wrote the Narnia books." Ari announced, after raising her hand. "My father read all the books to me when I was little. He's a huge book reader, but I don't like them too much." Ari remembered the bits about a talk-lion named Aslan, and swords, and fighting! Yes, she enjoyed those moments in the story.

He did glance up as the Slytherin greeted him, but only for a moment. Then it was back to the order forms. "Good morning young Patrick. I hope you are well." Why he called some students by their surnames and others by their first names was really rather random. Some students he would call by their first names one day and their last names another.

Hearing Professor ask if he was well he nodded, and assumed the lesson was about to begin. Grabbing his notebook and pen, he still wasn’t a fan of quills, they felt odd in his hand. Patrick’s head snapped up. His decree won. “I’ll be dipped.” he mumbled under his breath. He wanted casual Friday’s because he was always so tired of wearing his sweater and slacks by then. To get that kind of decree passed, he was going to become a legend at Hogwarts.

“Wow, thanks Professor.”
his cheeks tinted a bit hoping that not many students would draw attention to him.

Listening closer for the first question, Patrick had more of a muggle writer he loved. On the one hand he really loved poetry, and Shel Silverstein was one of his favorites. But man, could Rick Riordan write a good book about the gods. Raising his hand he waited to be called on. “I would have to say Rick Riordan, he writes about Demi gods and its interesting to see a muggle write about the magical beings out in the world so casually. The muggles don’t even know those kinds of creatures exist.”

Okay. That had hurt a little. Well, a lot, and he now had a charming red spot to his forehead from the motion. But hey, what was a small bruise compared to doxy scratches? He stayed like that, which meant he missed a lot of the happenings around the classroom and arrivals of certain friends - which he would be rather cross with himself about later - and it was not until the professor addressed him that he lifted his head.

A moment later that was just what this one did. Charles looked up in mild concern at the sight of Derf's forehead slammed on his table. "Are you all right, Mr. Hawthorne ?" It was understandable if he was exhausted from prefect duties.
Well...actually he wasn't SURE that he was being addressed since it he was an Ashburry-Hawthorne and not just a Hawthorne. But the man was looking directly at him. "Ashburry-Hawthorne, professor," he corrected with a lazy yawn. He knew his last name was long, but it was almost longer when mum and dad were trying to keep her maiden name in there somewhere - Ashburry-Hawthorne-Bentley. "...and...er...yeah...fit as a fairy."

Because she had been fussing a lot over him and his safety lately. He was starting to understand why Abey felt so small and awkward whenever he did it. Something he was actively working on though.

He also caught Stasya's arrival and threw her a smile - and a wave - as well. Though she was soon joined by Cameron who, well, his Hufflepuff loyalty struggled with EVERYTHING and mostly he was still concerned with how hurt Natalie felt. Though he was hoping her and Liam would at least find themselves on better terms...he couldn't imagine how it felt being isolated by and from your twin. Needless to say, his head quickly swiveled back towards the front - though that was in part to the professor beginning the lesson.

...........ice cream?

Two things. One being NOPE because Derf did not accept food from professors EVER and he was even more adamant about it now as a legacy to one Dora Umbridge. And two...wasn't the Latin for ice ... glacies? It's where the Freezing Charm's incantation of Glacius came from and stuff. Which was really where Derf knew any Latin from at all, spellwork and magical theory.

Thus...his hand was up.

"Everett Scabior," he shared first and foremost. He thought about saying Newt Scamander first but, well, his hero was more than an author and certainly NOT fiction. "He wrote one of my favorite series A Summer of Dragons." And now he was twitching and fidgeting in his seat quuuuuiiiiiiiiiite a bit because he wanted to ASK about this ultrices business. Which was why his mouth was moving before he could stop it from happening. Maybe part of that had to do with all the conjugation that Picketta had him doing recently with his bowtruckle studies. Language and how things worked on the brain. "Also, professor, how does glacies become ultrices?" he asked curiously, his eyes wide with delight for expansion on this subject. Maybe it could help make up a new spell or something, you know? Transformation of words and all that. Maybe a Transfiguration spell...hmmm...

And he really had no opinion on the casual Friday change sooooooo he just coasted through that announcement.
