| | The Office of Kalen Kennedy Right next to the Astronomy classroom is Kalen's small private office, which he moved from inside the library. The walls are lined with bookshelves full of his own personal books. You'll notice several books on Latin, violin music and curiously even some old muggle fantasy books as well.
A large picture of the Cambridge Library sits on one of the bookshelves, as do his varying degrees. If one looks close enough you might see a picture of his family and a few students who looked familiar.
If Kalen is not at the Front desk he is in here seated in his high-backed leather chair. If you look around you may spot his two cats, Mr. Tumnus and Aslan laying on their own little beds, next to a violin case.
There are two comfy leather chairs for people to sit in on the other side of his desk.
Feel free to knock on the door and wait for him to open it and invite you in! |

Slow, hesitant steps inched their way towards Mr. Kennedy's door. Garreth Kenway's tall, slender frame approached the door and stopped, an arm raised as if to knock. A pause.
The arm dropped, and the seventh-year shuffled uncomfortably in place, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Nervously, he ran a visibly shaking hand through his charcoal hair and let out a sigh. "Come on, Garreth." the boy mumbled to himself, quietly enough that you wouldn't have heard him if you stood right next to him. "It's really not that big a deal." he tried to reassure himself, with mixed results. His hands weren't shaking anymore, but he was clearly not looking forward to telling Mr. Kennedy that he'd managed to pull off something that up until now, he'd believed to be impossible: He'd lost a book from the library!
Mustering all his courage, he raised that arm to the door again, and let his knuckles lightly tap the dark wood door.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Solana Selwyn Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Selene Diana Evans Ravenclaw Seventh Year | Snow Miser | Munchy | Molly Hooper | T | Hey, you | Phantom | Mrs. Chris Evans | Brat Pack | Tristalen Kalen was sitting at his desk, surrounded by rolls of Parchment that he should have been grading, last weeks assignment on the different phases of the Moon had gone over well, perhaps a little too well. Especially as a few people decided to go into the effect the moon phases had on different things.
If anyone was a werewolf, these students would know immediately, or if anyone was trying to hatch a basilisk.
He shook his dark head and instead turned to focus on the letter he had gotten from his niece, writing to her was much easier than grading papers any day, and he was about to start replying when he heard a knock on the door.
Huh.. someone actually wanted to talk to him? Shocking.. “Come in!” He called as he sat back and waited for whoever it was to enter. |

It seemed as if Mr. Kennedy wasn't in his office. Phew. That meant Garreth could put off this conversation until- Oh no.
He was there! And Garreth had been invited in! There was no getting out of it now. Knowing full well that it was too late to turn back, but still worried about the consequences of his mess-up, the seventh-year waited almost too long to open the door and step inside. Once there, he gave the professor and bow of his head, shutting the door behind him. "Good day, Professor." Garreth had always been fairly good at Astronomy, and he spent a frankly ridiculous amount of his free time at the library, so the face of Kalen Kennedy was one he was reasonably familiar with, and one that usually conjured pleasant feelings of kinship. Today, however, he was worried. Really worried. What if he got detention? Or worse, lost house points!?
Was he overreacting? Was he making a bigger deal out of this book thing than he had to? Maybe. But for Garreth Kenway, who had never stepped out of line for the entirety of his Hogwarts schooling, misplacing school property was a horrible crime. "Do you have a minute?" the boy stammered apologetically towards Mr. Kennedy.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Solana Selwyn Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Selene Diana Evans Ravenclaw Seventh Year | Snow Miser | Munchy | Molly Hooper | T | Hey, you | Phantom | Mrs. Chris Evans | Brat Pack | Tristalen Kalen set his writing aside as he waited for the door to open, and for a moment he was wondering if he was just hearing things and had shouted “Come in” to an empty hallway.
It sadly wouldn’t be the first time he had done that. But thankfully no one knew about it.
He decided to wait a few more seconds before returning to his letter and was rewarded for his patience with the door knob turning and a familiar face entering the room. “Hello Mr. Kenway, how are you?” He asked with a smile as he looked at the seventh year, his niece had told him about Garreth and he had enjoyed meeting the boy in the library. He thought he had met all of Azura’s friends now, except for some boy named Jasper. Hmm..
Anyways..
Kalen focused his green eyes on the Ravenclaw who seemed rather nervous and an eye brow raised ever so slightly as the boy stammered. “Of course I have a minute, please sit.” He said as he indicated one of the leather chairs across from his desk. “Tea?” He asked he brought out two cups. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Raziel Khaine Ravenclaw Fourth Year | I'm dreaming with my eyes wide open Okay, Garreth. You can do this.
It was such a struggle to calm his nerves, and confidence was hard to find, but if ever there was a time to "fake it 'til you make it", it was now. As he took his first tentative steps into the center of the room, the seventh year tried his best to take a deep breath without making it too obvious. "Well, to be perfectly honest with you, sir, I'm a little bit worried." he began to explain, pausing as he took that seat. "Oh, yes, please. Thank you, sir." he added quickly to the professor's offer of tea. Tea always had a way of calming the boy's nerves. And besides, his mother had always taught him it was rude to refuse tea!
He sat there in silence for a few moments, trying to come up with a way to even start explaining himself. He was painfully aware of how strange he must have seemed, looking as if he was going to have a heart attack just sitting there. After a few quiet seconds, the boy cleared his throat. "So, I've had a bit of an issue, sir." he began, reaching into his satchel and fishing out two library books and placing them on Mr. Kennedy's desk. "A couple days ago, I borrowed these books and one more from the library." he set up his story, trying not to give too much backstory. He just didn't want the professor to think any of this was his fault. "My problem is.. the third book, 'Riddles of a Silent Sorcerer' by Worrlin the Wise.. Is missing." he finally spat it out, obviously mortified. "I know the books are all enchanted to prevent vandalism or misplacement, but after I realized I'd lost it, I went to the library and looked everywhere. It hadn't materialized there." At that, he gave a small pause. He didn't want to talk the professor's ear off all in one go. Thinking back on it now, he really should have known there was something wrong with the enchantments on the book when it had been damaged down at the lake despite the anti-vandalism magic. "I tried everything from 'Accio' to posting a notice in the common room. It seems like the book just disappeared. I'm really sorry, but I seem to have lost it, sir." Wincing as he spoke, the boy twiddled his thumbs and tapped his foot nervously. He was probably overreacting completely, but ever since his first year at Hogwarts, Garreth had been absolutely terrified of breaking the rules or making any kind of mistake. He just couldn't help it. He had an idea of what might have caused the enchantments on the book to act up, but he wanted to give the professor a chance to speak before he continued. He tended to talk a lot when he was nervous, a flaw that he was making slow progress to fix.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Solana Selwyn Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Selene Diana Evans Ravenclaw Seventh Year | Snow Miser | Munchy | Molly Hooper | T | Hey, you | Phantom | Mrs. Chris Evans | Brat Pack | Tristalen If Kalen noticed how jittery the boy seemed to be, he didn’t give any indication, instead he went about making tea. “Worried about what? ” He asked curiously as he pointed his wand at the teapot and a nonverbal spell later had water pouring into it. Once there was enough liquid in the pot, he did a non verbal heating charm and then sat back a little to listen to the 7th year. “Earl Grey, English Breakfast, White or green tea?” He asked as out a basket filled with assorted teas in the desk as the boy seemed to try and get it together. He selected a nice Earl Grey for himself and put the bag in the cup, causally keeping himself busy as he waited for the boy to speak.
Finally he did and one of Kalens eyebrows rose a bit as he sat two books on his desk, he briefly scanned them and he didn’t see any outward problems, so he stayed silent still, his green eyes watching the Ravenclaw.
Ahhh so that’s what the problem was, a missing book. Kalen had to hide a smile at Garreth’s panic, and he let him fully explain about the book before he started to reply back to him. “Well you see Mr.Kenway...” He began before the teapot started to whistle and he poured the boiling water into their teacups. The kettle was set aside and Kalen leaned back in his chair once more a small smile on his face. “As you know, the books here do have some enchantments to keep them safe, from losses or vandalism and the like, and when a book is past due, it doesn’t rematerialize in the library as one might expect.” He said as he waved a finger and a box of books came floating from behind his desk. “It comes here so I can check them out and then return them to the library,” He said as he bent down to look through the pile.. “Riddles of a Silent Sorcerer you say?” He asked as he thumbed through the pile in the box.. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Raziel Khaine Ravenclaw Fourth Year | I'm dreaming with my eyes wide open "Early Grey, if you don't mind, sir." The nervous seventh year muttered, reaching for a teabag and placing it in his cup. He was relieved that the professor didn't seem too impatient with how hard he was struggling to speak. Mr. Kennedy's patience was a quality that always made Garreth feel at ease. But then, Astronomy must take an awful lot of patience to specialize in. And running a library for that matter.
The boy was quick to grab his teacup when the professor poured in the water. Even though it was still a bit hot to drink, the warmth of the cup against his hands was always soothing; a sign that one would soon be enjoying a lovely cup of tea. Obviously, today, the boy was in dire need of some soothing. He nodded along as Mr. Kennedy spoke, instinctively bringing the cup to his lips, but stopping himself. "They don't?" he asked, confused but hopeful. If he'd been looking in the wrong place, maybe it wasn't missing after all! The hope on the boy's face became even more apparent when the professor produced the box from behind the desk. "Yes, sir, that's the one. Second edition." he kept his eye on the box, hoping to spot the book in question. "I accidentally ripped off a corner of one of the pages while reading down by the lake. I thought it was weird that that was even possible, but I repaired it. But when the book disappeared and I couldn't find it anywhere, I thought maybe my repair spell had broken the protective charms or something."

They can be ripped of course, and if the person who has them doesn’t repair them, they will repair themselves over night, but they aren’t impervious to things like that. Water yes, ripping no. ” He said with a smile as he picked up his cup and took a small drink of tea. |

The relief was crystal clear on Garreth's face, as if the sigh he released hadn't been enough. The mere sight of the lost book made the boy jump slightly in his seat, and his face immediately warped into a bright smile. "That's the one! Thank you, Professor!" he chirped, ecstatic that the problem that he'd thought would cause him so much trouble was so easily fixed. He reached for the book on the desk and flipped through it, as if to make sure it was indeed the right one. Sure enough, it seemed it was the very same copy, right down to the faded scribblings in the margins. "I'm glad, professor, that It wasn't actually lost. I thought for sure I'd get in trouble for damaging and then misplacing school property." he took a large sip of his tea, burning his tongue a little, but playing it off like it didn't happen. "I never gave any thought to the possibility that the books don't actually end up back at the library when they're overdue or damaged."

Usually I take them when students don’t listen.” Teenagers sometimes didn’t like to pay attention to him or anyone else. “But Thank you for your concern Mr.Kenway, usually kids don’t come in after lost books and it makes me happy that at least someone cares about them.” He said as he settled back in his chair and reached for his tea cup. He blew softly on the liquid in it before taking a small sip.
Ahh so much better. “Mmm, it’s my own little system, helps me keep things organized, and then I know who is good with school property and who isn’t.” He said with a nod as he took another sip of his tea. |

Garreth was so much more calm now, one could be forgiven for thinking he was a different person altogether. "Thank goodness. My father once lost a library book when he went to school, and they took away one house point for every hour it was overdue!" he shivered just at the thought. "He did go to Durmstrang, though.. so they clearly don't have as clever a librarian there as we do here." he smiled, reaching for his tea and taking a tiny sip. "Of course I care about them, sir. Where would we be if we didn't have books?" a question that encapsulated Garreth's attitude towards books and learning in general. To him, passing down your knowledge to generations of people after you seemed a more noble goal than most. And to disrespect that legacy by purposely damaging books was an insult, not just to the witch or wizard who wrote the book, but to everything Garreth stood for.

He smiled at the boys passionate words and he nodded again, “Indeed, where would we be without them, much worse off.” He said as he took another small drink of his tea, and looked around his office at all the books he had there. “I think you would have enjoyed the Library at Cambridge University, that was my previous job before this one, the library was massive, muggle of course but massive all the same.” He smiled a bit. “And yet I do adore the library here, so many volumes dating back so far.. ” History,, he just loved it. |
