| | Shrieking Shack The Shrieking Shack is positioned up a slope from the Three Broomsticks and is accessible to all who take the muddy and puddled pathway up and down the hillside to get there. Though much of its history has been revealed to wizardkind, the place is still eerie as ever and continues to hold the reputation as the "most haunted house in Britain." If you listen or look carefully, maybe you will hear a noise sound or see a flicker of light come from inside.
Still the windows and doors of the house are boarded shut with wood. No one may enter or exit the premises through those openings without breaking and entering. It would be advised to simply stand on the other side of the fence that surrounds the property and enjoy the home and its dank overgrown garden from a safe distance. You never know what could be lurking about inside that dusty run-down place after all these years...

| open for anyone Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Being new to Hogwarts this year, Tashina didn't know much about Hogsmeade other than bits and pieces of information she overheard from her peers. It seemed like a decent use of time on a Saturday afternoon, getting away from the castle and all that. But once she got here, it seemed like a colossal waste of time.
She had already been widely unimpressed with Diagon Alley this summer. Honestly, who thought shopping was a fun time? And Hogsmeade was apparently nothing different. The fourth year Hufflepuff wandered down the street until she got just past the main shopping area, looking for anything remotely interesting. Slowing her steps, she focused on the dilapidated old building beyond the fence. "Ooh, what's that? A haunted house?" she mused aloud to no one in particular. It certainly looked like one and maybe she should venture a little closer to find out.

Kye had to take it easy on the candy... well, the carrying part anyway. She decided to take a break from wandering Hogsmeade stores for their candy stash, picked a spot, adjusted her costume, and took a seat on a bench near the Shrieking Shack. What else could complete the Halloween feel?!
Kye pulled out a Fizzing Whizbee, and enjoyed it while looking at the ridiculously old house(?).
She wondered if anyone ever lived there, or if it was once a shop too. She recalled the rumors she had heard over the years, both from classmates and from family. She always wanted to try to figure out how to find the knot to get past the Whomping Willow and venture out.
It was around then that the sixth year noticed a younger girl walk up and look at the house. Simply because there was nothing else in the immediate vicinity, she watched the girl and heard her say something... If she had heard correctly, it sounded like the girl didn't know much about the shack. "It's called the Shrieking Shack!" Kye called out in response. Happy to have someone a little closer to her age around, Kye got up and practically pranced over to the girl. "It's literally been sitting here empty and possibly haunted for well over a hundred years... Care for a Whizbee?" |

Tashina was slightly startled to hear a voice answering her as she thought she was out here alone and was basically talking to herself, but she did not show any outward signs of being surprised. She simply pulled her eyes away from the supposed haunted house and directed them to where she heard the voice. "Shrieking Shack?" She asked the girl who was quickly advancing towards her. That was actually a cool name for it. And the girl she did not know, but appeared to be about her age so she would assume that she went to Hogwarts too. "Is that right?" she added with the hint of a grin playing at her lips. "Do you know if that's true? Is it really haunted?" Because she really just kind of wanted to go see it right now. And it was always better to go explore places like that with another person. As long as they weren't too annoying. "Hmm? Oh, yeah, thanks." Tashina held out her hand for one of the sweets. She hadn't had a fizzing whizbee in a long time, but they were kind of fun.

Kye tilted her head, trying to think about how best to answer the girl. She didn't want to ruin the fun! "Well, I think the actual 'shrieking' stopped before even my parents' time," Kye dropped a Fizzing Whizbee in the girl's palm. "I think it's more just something people tell first years now... Ooh!" Kye exclaimed suddenly, "Maybe it's one of those things that sleeps for a hundred years and reawakens!"
Who knew? And who knew when that would even be? Had it passed? Could it really be that old? Well, either way, Kye was completely in the Halloween spirit, and was happy to talk about paranormal, creepy stuff. "I've wondered if the ghost or poltergeist or whatever it was just got bored and left, but I'm pretty sure they can't!... What do you think?" She was reminded of the Hogwarts ghosts who didn't get to roam outside of the castle. Ugh, why didn't they have a class to study the afterlife?? |

Tashina looked over the girl as she accepted the sweet and popped it into her mouth. The girl was likely in costume unless she was a very odd dresser, which was cool too, but she wasn't sure what she was. Some sort of woodland nymph? Eh, she didn't care that much really. "Oh, that's disappointing," she said, sucking on the candy as she began to levitate an inch or so off the ground. Hmm, that was fun. But what she really wanted to do was go see a real haunted house. And not from a distance. She tilted her head as she thought over what the girl said. "Is it a hundred years now, though?" Because that's the only thing that would really interest her in that scenario. She wanted to see something really spooky and even though she wasn't in costume herself, Tashina supposed she was in the Halloween spirit.
Hmm. The fourteen year old looked back at the Shrieking Shack as she considered that thought. "No, I don't think so. Pretty sure ghosts and poltergeists are confined to one area to haunt.... But I think there's only one way to really find out," she added with a grin as she looked back expectantly at the other girl. Was she brave enough to go in there?
