Once invited into Kaysha’s office, you enter to find she had decorated it simply. The walls have been covered in amethyst coloured wall paper, her favourite colour. Over these wall papers, there are many framed photos of persons precious to her. One frame holds a collage of her at various ages, another shows pictures of herself and her father and yet another shows a picture of her beautiful, deceased mother. Most of the photos, however, contain pictures of her previous students from the Muggle Primary and Secondary schools she had taught at as well as from the little volunteer group she had formed so that kids who needed extra help in school could get it.
On one corner, there was a huge, wooden bookshelf laden with an assortment of books for her to read in her leisure time. Would you be interested in borrowing one? You simply need to ask! Just ensure that you return them back in their proper condition. In the opposite corner sat a sort of kitchenette dedicated to store refreshments for her guests. These refreshments were provided by the hard working elves of Hogwarts.
In the middle of the room sat Kaysha’s desk which was always so neatly organised. Across from her desk and chair, sat two comfortable chairs. Choose one and make yourself at home! There is no need to be shy!
"Thank you, ma'am." she said as she walked through the opened door. Looking around the room, she saw so many pictures. She wondered who all of the kids were. Maybe they were hers? No, she didn't look old enough to have that many children. Plus, most of the kids looked to be around the same age, and even the best magic didn't work that way.
Walking forward, she found two plush chairs sitting across from what she assumed was the professors desk. Emmalyn made her way to the chair on the right, it looked to be a bit more fluffy than the one on the left, then she took a seat. She was starting to feel a bit nervous. Sure, she had classes with professors, but she had never been in one of their offices before. She almost felt as if she were intruding on a special adults only place.
"Good day, Professor Stewart. Thank you for inviting me in today." She gave a smile and took a breath. Deliberating on what to start with, she ran the options over quickly in her mind. "Well, I came here today to ask you a question." She fiddled with the bracelet, the one her mother gave her the day she left for Hogwarts, the one that she now fiddled with every single time she felt nervous or out of sorts. "Well, actually two questions." Yes, she would ask both questions.
She waited for Professor Stewart to get comfortable before she continued on. She didn't want to seem rude by bursting in with a list of demands she wanted fulfilled. Emmalyn hadn't even given her a chance to make it back to her desk before she started talking.

"You're quite welcome. It's always wonderful to have visits from the students. Please excuse the clutter. I decided there was no better day to get some cleaning done.'' Kay laughed softly as she followed Emmalyn towards the desk. "Have a seat. These pictures are all of my past students, both from the muggle and magical worlds.'' Yes, she had seen the Hufflepuff taking a look at them.
Kay took a seat behind her desk, pushing a stack of books out of the way so that she could easily see Emmalyn. Two questions? Needless to say she was curious. "I'm always open to that. Ask away.''

Ahh, so they were her kids, in a way. She wondered if she would make the wall one day. Her attention shifted back towards Professor Stewart. “Well, I would first like to see if there was any way possible I could borrow one of the ipods from the Entertainment Room. The thing is I really miss my mum and one of the ipods, the bright pink one, has her favorite band on it.” She had no idea if Professor Stewart would even consider letting one of the electronics leave the room, or if it would even work in her dorm room. She knew that they weren’t allowed such things, but maybe there was a special spell on the professors Ipods that allowed them to play.
“My second question is an even bigger long shot.” Emmalyn fiddled with her bracelet, it was what she did when she was nervous. “I was wondering if I could host a movie night?” She paused in attempt to gauge the professors reaction. “You have so many wonderful movies and I really think it would be a lot of fun. I could have popcorn and bake some treats.” Her face was lit up with excitement. She was picturing her housemates and friends from other houses all gathered together, eating, drinking, and laughing.

Ah. Kay was rather sympathetic towards Emmalyn. Having lost both parents, she knew rather well what it was like to miss them. Perhaps the first year was feeling homesick. "I would love to loan it to you, Ms Walsh, however in no other part of the Castle will you be able to use Muggle technology. You see, the Entertainment Room has chosen spells that lift the anti Muggle charms of Hogwarts.'' She was genuinely sorry she could not help further. "You are free to use that particular Ipod as many times as you like though.''
The second request made the woman smile. "Now this is something you can organise and I'll be happy to help if you need it. Yes, you're most welcome to do so. I can easily reserve the Room for this, Lyn!'' At least she was able to grant one request. Just look at the excitement on Emmalyn's face!
And in her own happiness, she had not realised she referred to the Puff as Lyn.

And in her own happiness, she had not realised she referred to the Puff as Lyn.
The first response was not the one she was hoping for, but one expected. "I understand." She said, taking a deep breath to steady her emotions. "I'm thankful that I can use it in the room though. It's very nice of you to offer that." She was still trying to figure out all the different spells that must be in place all over the castle. It simply blew her mind that so much could go one and none of the muggle world had any idea. Plus, she had a feeling that something bad must have happened, or is to happen, with the way everyone talked about not being alone in the corridors and all of the protections over Hogwarts. It was all far more than her eleven year old mind wanted to process.
The second response, however, brought her great joy. "Oh, that's fantastic! Thank you!" She barely caught herself and almost jumped from her chair to launch herself to hug Professor Stewart. Just barely. She didn't know the professor very well and wasn't sure how she would react to being hugged by a student. "Yes, I would love to plan a movie night as soon as possible." Her mind raced with the details and the snacks. Oh, the snacks were the best part. Then she realized the professor called her Lyn and she smile brighter. It seemed that a lot of students and professors at Hogwarts liked nicknames. Or, maybe it was just her name was quite a mouthful. Either way, she was happy to be called Lyn, Em, or Emmalyn.
"I'm thinking a night right before Christmas break would be nice. That way, if the students stay up a bit too late, they won't need to worry about homework or being late for class the next day." Yes, right before break and they could watch a Christmas movie. There were so many fun movies already in the entertainment room, she was sure she could find one that would work brilliantly. "If it's okay with you, I'll chat with my friends and my house prefect to finalize a few dates that could work. I'll check back in with you when I have them."

"I'm sorry that I could not be of more help in that situation.'' Kay paused, wanting to get a little more knowledge on her student. "Is it your mom whom you live alone with? Do you have any siblings?'' This was not prying. She was genuinely interested.
The green light for the movie seemed to have made up for the disappointment earlier. It was easy to see, the excitement from Emmalyn was very evident. This in turn made Kay extremely pleased. Ah, how she loved it when her kiddos were happy! "Great idea. Very considerate. Okay! That sounds like a plan. Once you have the information, let me know. And, of course, if you need help you can always come to me.'' Since this was Lyn's idea, then it was only fair that the Hufflepuff lead the planning. It would build her confidence.

Emmalyn paused at the family question, wondering how best to explain. She didn’t want to make her father sound like a horrible man. He really wasn’t. He had always been a great dad, one most of her friends were jealous of. That was until she received her letter from Hogwarts.
“I don’t have any brothers or sisters. I guess my mum had a difficult labor with me and was advised to not have any more children.” That she was okay with. Sure, it would have been fun to have a brother or sister, but she had grown up with so many friends that she didn’t ever feel lonely. “My mum is my best friend. She’s amazing.” She paused again, taking a long slow breath. “You see, my dad was completely against me coming to Hogwarts.” She took another deep breath to steady her nerves and push down the tears that wanted to escape her chocolate brown eyes.
“The day I received my letter was the best day and the worst day. My dad was furious that my mother would believe such a place really existed. He said someone was playing a cruel joke on me and we would be sorry.” Her hand went to her bracelet and she ran her finger along the stones, letting the bump bump bump calm her. “He left that day. A few weeks later he came back and said he would allow me to go, but they would have zero contact with me while I’m at Hogwarts.”
She held up her arm to show Professor Stewart her bracelet. “My mother gave me this bracelet the morning I left for the Hogwarts Express. She was so sad, but she couldn’t let my dad leave forever. She said she hoped he would feel differently after the school year passed.” She twisted her wrist back and forth, letting the light dance off the stones. “The funny thing is, the stones are Hufflepuff colors! There is no way she could have known what house I would be in. At least I don’t think so. It’s bothered me ever since the sorting ceremony.” It was a very strange coincidence. They weren’t colors her or her mother would have normally picked out. Not favorites, or even birthstones. But, her mother was always so positive about her going to Hogwarts and being a witch. It hadn’t troubled her in the least.
After getting all of that off of her chest, in a fountain of information blasted at poor Professor Stewart, Emmalyn was feeling much better. She exhaled deeply and gave the professor a sweet smile. “Thanks again for letting me set up a movie night. I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as I have some dates picked out.”

Well... that certainly hit Kay right in the gut. She hid the stunned feeling that took over her and instead looked sympathetic. See, she knew something of what it was like, the consequences of a difficult birth. Her own mother died giving birth to her. "I understand. You're lucky to have her and she you.'' No one should ever have to grow up without a mother's love. "He was? Why would he have been? Surely he has changed his mind now?''
Apparently the man did not since Lyn was to have no contact with the family while at Hogwarts. Kay was immensely sad for her. Such a bittersweet even her first year at Hogwarts had turned out to be. "I know you miss them but while you're here, enjoy your time with your friends. Anytime you need someone to talk to, an adult, you're free to come to me and I'm sure your Head of House would say the same.'' She looked at the bracelet. "It's beautiful! Hmmm... it's probably a coincidence but a wonderful one at that. I imagine that you never take it off.'' And really? Who could blame Lyn if she didn't?
"You're welcome! I look forward to that. Also, I hope you don't mind me nicknaming you 'Lyn'.''

Emmalyn looked down at her hands. She didn't like thinking about those last few weeks at home. "I sure do hope he's changed his mind. He must know by now that it wasn't a trick being played on us." He must. She would have been back home by now if Hogwarts wasn't real. Or, maybe he thought she had been taken away and he would never see her again? She hoped the latter wasn't true.
She smiled brightly at Professor Stewart's kindness. "Thank you. I do love my new friends. There are so many wonderful students here." She quickly added "Oh, and professors! Most of the professors are amazing." Except that Professor Noble. He was one scary wizard. A cold chill ran through her body at the thought of her last potions class. What a horrible mess that was.
Thinking about her nickname she nodded with bright eyes, "I do like it. Lyn is great." Yes, that name really did suit her. She'd really never seen herself as an Emma, it seemed too girly for her. She was tough. She played sports. She was on the quidditch team!! Yes, she quite liked Lyn.
Suddenly, her eyes caught sight of the clock. "Oh, I've already taken up far too much of your time." She got up from the comfy chair and started to make her way towards the door. "Thank you, again, for everything." Her smile said so much more thanks than her words ever could. "See you in class."

Poor Emmalyn. Kay understood how she felt. "If you like, if he hasn't changed his mind, I'd be happy to speak to him. I am sure I would be able to convince him that you and your family are not being pranked.'' This would not be the first nor last time she would be speaking to a student's muggle relative.
"See? A few reasons for you to enjoy your stay here. And you have six more years to look forward to!'' She smiled. Lyn would be her nickname from now on then. "You're quite welcome! It was no trouble at all. Take care.''

But she smiled that signature smile. "Hello. Come on in.'' Kay stepped back and held the door open. "Is there something in particular you need help with?'' The Gryffindor would most likely not come visiting her unless she absolutely has to.
Her hunch was correct. Very correct.
But Zoryn was trying to accomplish something here so for all intensive purposes, today she didn't hate Professor Stewart. In fact, she had a fun learning opportunity to tell her about. "Now that you mention it, Professor, there is!" She walked into the room, making sure to be pleasant but not overly-so. She wasn't trying to make the woman suspicious. This was business.
"Y'know how I'm normally super bored in Muggle Studies?" No offense. "I've thought of an idea that would actually be fun. It would be super cool to paint a corridor in the castle the muggle way AND I'd be doing a service to the school. Two fwoopers, one stone. What do ya think?"

Kay tried not to stare. She wasn't used to having Zoryn so... how should she put it? Enthusiastic? Happy? At least neither emotions fit when the Gryffindor was around the former Ravenclaw. "Yes, I get the feeling and I'm terribly sorry I haven't been able to spark your interest,'' she admitted warily and took a seat. Really, she kept trying her best.
Now she really did stare. Zoryn Spinett actually wanting to participate in manual labour? "I see. Is there any reason why you have this sudden interest in this?'' And as she spoke an idea formed in her mind. "Actually, I have an idea. Would you fancy painting the first floor corridor?''

Zoryn didn't mind staring so long as it was directed at her beauty and talent. Mean staring, however, she did mind. "It's s'okay, Professor," actually it really wasn't and Zoryn wanted to drop the class, like, yesterday BUT for the purpose of keeping Professor Stewart in a good mood... It was okay. It was more than okay. Mhm.
"I just think it'd be good for the school," she nodded. "And it's not like I have any homework to do." She didn't have homework because she decided to cancel it for the rest of the year. Power-moves, y'know?
And then Professor S said it.
.............
That was easy.
"I was thinking the fourth floor, but.. Y'know, you're right. First floor is super dull. I'll do that instead." OKAY BYEEEEEEE. "Thanks for the idea, Professor! I'll be sure to tell you when I'm done so you can come check it out." ok ok ok byeeeeeeee.

Kay too let the subject of her lessons drop. She was rather interested in Zoryn's proposal and reason behind it. She was not stupid as she knew the Gryffindor most likely had an ulterior motive. "Truth be told, the caretaker could have that done but I don't see any harm in you assisting.''
Kay grinned. "The last student that painted the first floor chose a dull colour. You see, I have a rule that each year, a student from a different house would paint the first floor. I'll be there to check your work periodically. Good bye, Ms Spinnet.''

HA! The ulterior motive here was the fact that she had already painted the corridor and had gotten caught doing it. But fortunately, Professor Stewart was TOTALLY oblivious and Zoryn Amari Spinnet had once again managed to save her own butt.
Well done, Z. Well done.
"I would never make it boring, Professor! You've got my word!" And with that, the Gryffindor walked out of the-- WAIT A MINUTE.
Before the door completely shut behind her, the Quidditch Captain popped her head back into the office, body still behind her on the other side of the doorway. "One more thing. Are you seeing anyone, Professor?"
Asking for a friend.
Well not a friend, exactly.
But y'know, ANYWAYS not the point here.

Kay was quite ready to return to completing some work she had planned for the day but was surprised when Zoryn turned back to her. Had they Gryffindor forgotten to ask something?
Apparently she had.
Kay stared for a moment. She rarely discussed her private life with anyone much less a student. Then again, what harm could come out of answering the innocent question? Was it innocent though, since this was Zoryn asking?
"Not at present,'' was her reply as she reached for one of her notebooks. There was lesson planning to be fine-tuned. "Why do you ask?'' In fact, she hadn't dated anyone since her fiancé died so many years ago. And since Jordan Hernandez had friendzoned her, Kaysha hadn't been quite keen on opening herself to dating.

Zoryn teetered back and forth on her feet, waiting for the answer. Her lips curled into an innocent smile upon the confirmation of her hopes. "Oh, just wondering," of course she had ulterior motives. Zoryn Spinnet always had ulterior motives. "For a survey."
This was very interesting information indeed.
"Anyways, thanks Professor! I'll see ya in class!" If she chose not to skip it lol.

Kay looked very suspiciously at Zoryn. With this Gryffindor, nothing was as innocent as it seemed. However, she decided not to ask any further questions though she had a feeling that something would come out of this sooner rather than later. She simply nodded. "Very well.'' If Zoryn said so.
"Have a good rest of your day, Ms Spinnet.'' Kay gave her a genuine smile before returning to what she had been doing. Really, Gryffindors, she thought and shaking her head in amusement. Also, she couldn't help but wonder exactly why Zoryn had wanted to know if she was single though she had a few guesses.
An owl lurks in the rafters of the Muggle Studies professor's office. Unless one happens to be looking up, it would be easy to miss the creature's presence. The bird hovers overhead, then circles the room a few times, as if searching for the professor in question.
Yellow eyes lock on their target, and the owl swoops down with a loud hoot. A black envelope falls from its talons. There’s something written on it in deep red - a shade of red suspiciously similar to the paint seen dripping at the Job fair a few months ago. The writing spells out the name of the envelopes intended recipient: Kaysha Stewart.
Just as quickly as it came, the owl flies out the nearest window.

Earbuds were firmly placed in Kay's ears and The Script's music blared. As a result, she failed to hear the ruffle of the bird's wings as she reorganised some folders on her laptop. Not until the owl swooped low, casting a shadow and the letter fell onto her lap did she come out of her reverie. The actions were enough to startle her and had anyone been in her office at the time, they would have heard the gasp.
Ripping the buds out of her ear, the woman watched the owl flutter out of her window. She shook her head slightly before directing her attention to the note. The red printed on the envelope was immediately familiar. Excitement started to take over as the flap was pulled open and the parchment removed.

"You too, Professor!" Zoryn was 100% sure that the rest of her day would be a good one, all thanks to Professor Stewart (((for once))). 'Cause now she had LOADS of planning and scheming to do. Man, this two fwooper with one stone thing is honestly a life saver.
With that, the Gryffindor waved goodbye to her Muggle Studies Professor and then skipped out the door. There was SO much to do before the end of the week!! Maybe she could recruit Faith to give her a hand or something? Yeah. This was definitely a job for two.
