| | Map of Argyllshire Hanging in a spot on the second floor is a framed map of Argyllshire. This old, out-dated map features the Scottish county and surrounding areas before they were abolished in 1975. It isn't clear why the map was originally hung up at Hogwarts and many still don't understand why it is still featured in the second-floor corridor today. If anything, it makes for a good conversation starter or an easy-to-find place to meet up with someone.
Even though the map's purpose at Hogwarts isn't clear, you might find looking at it worth your while anyway. The map reflects the weather that is occurring outside -- if it is raining, a thick and dark mass will cloud the map until it clears; the landscape of the map will turn green when bright and sunny; during autumn the landscape changes colour; and the map gradually starts to turn white and freezes the rivers, lakes, and lochs on the map when snow begins to fall outside. When it is nighttime, the colours on the map dim except for where the towns are. Pretty cool, right?

| Anyone? <3 be curious, not judgmental Ever since he was a young boy, Callum had been interested in graphs, charts, maps, and things of the like. When he had originally discovered this map, he had geeked out to the point of embarrassing himself, which was a rare occurrence for this prideful young man. Regardless of that first instance, Callum liked to take a detour when he had the time to visit the second floor. He didn't visit often; it was typically only when he was going to or from the first or third floor for classes, or he wanted to visit Hirsch. The arcade area was a place he wanted to frequent more often, but it just never happened.
Today, Callum's intent was purely to kill time between classes, and he had not yet wandered round this corridor to see if the map was still there this term. He didn't expect it to have disappeared, really, but odd things were always happening and changing at Hogwarts, especially from year-to-year, and sometimes it was even just really subtle things that hardly anyone else seemed to notice.
He just wanted to make sure it was still here, okay?
And it was. The sight brought a pleasant smile to the Gryffindor's lips; the map was currently displaying the colors of autumn coupled with some patches of green, some patches of grey - he interpreted it as sunny in some spots, cloudy in others, and he reached a hand up to gently stroke the map, curiously watching as the map magically morphed under his fingers, keeping up with the gradual ebbs and flows of the weather outside. He wanted to know the magic that created this, that made the map so very clever, almost as if it were sentient and conscious. He would have loved to create maps like this, entirely from scratch, and he knew he could do it, too.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt to go pick Kennedy's brain on the matter, see if she had some books for him to read up on the science-- err-- magic of it.

Vi was walking, rather absentmindedly along the second floor corridor, until she reached the great map ahead of her. Argyllshire. It was still as magnificent as the first day she remembered seeing it. The first time she had seen it was in the early fall right before the leaves changed colour but now in autumn... the map truly shown with warm hues of amber, red, and honey. Beautiful. There was even some greens and grays coupled in with it. What a masterpiece indeed.
Taking a few steps closer, she noticed that fellow housemate, Callum Kettleburn, stood there. Oh hello there. She had, of course, seen him in classes and about but hadn't had much chance to speak with him. " Hey," she greeted with a small smile. " Galleon for your thoughts?"
