 Not far from the entrance of the fifth-floor corridor stands a statue of Boris the Bewildered. Even though there is a statue present in dedication to the man, not much is known about him these days. Just by looking at his expression, it appears that he is either very lost or someone just Confunded him. Though, perhaps, this observation will not come as a surprise to you. After all, the old man is wearing his gloves on the wrong hands.
Hopefully you are faring significantly better than the statue standing before you. In general the statue is used as a landmark for prefects and Quidditch captains, serving as a gentle reminder that their exclusive bathroom is just a few doors down. If you are not a student leader, however, the statue might be viewed as yet another of those silly things that reside inside the castle and be deemed as something not worth investigating further. Though, if you ever need a casual meeting place, Boris will always be there to help you out even if he hasn't got a clue who you even are.

Zoryn Spinnet may have used up all of her money on the train, BUT there was one thing she wasn't out of: Brilliance. Yes, that's right. She had ideas and she had LOADS of them. In fact, this was only Plan A and she had plans B-Z in the case that this one fell through. She wasn't doubting herself, however, 'cause Plan A was totally GENIUS. Maybe. Well if it had worked in the past, why wouldn't it work for her right? Professor History of Magic should be so proud. Zoryn had really done her research for this one.
The Gryffindor came to a stop somewhere along one of the corridors on the Fifth Floor near the statue of Boris the Bewildered. This seemed like a good enough place to start putting her plans into action. Despite the lack of any other supplies, Zoryn had a meter stick and some measure tape with her. These were all she needed for her preliminary work. With that in mind, the Gryffindor began measuring the length of the wall, struggling to get the measuring tape to fall flat against it as she stretched it out longer and longer up the wall. There was a lot of jumping and tip-toe standing involved.
She was too short for this. SOS.

Cam was on his way down from the Astronomy tower and just HAPPENED to be walking down the same corridor Zoryn was on. Not that he was aware of this at first. Or perhaps he was aware - he wasn‘t blind, nor was he deaf - but he didn‘t really care. This castle was filled with students, it was difficult to be anywhere without anyone else present.
It wasn‘t until he came closer, however, that he actually started paying attention, however. What was.......he blinked. Zoryn looked like she was on a mission. On a mission to.....measure the wall? What? Surely there were some kind of floorplans that she could ask for that had the exact measurements. The caretaker would know. Or maybe even the Heads of Houses.
He slowed to a stop near her, head tilted to the side a little, eyeing her curiously. “What are you doing?“ | |

Still she struggled, inching more of the tape upwards and trying to keep it from flopping back and hitting her head all together. Y'know, they made this stuff look easy in home renovation television shows. In reality, it was a super hard life. Zoryn was suuuuper thankful that none over her post-grad plans included any kind of construction work.
For the first time in her life, she was dedicating utmost focus to the task at hand, well, until Cameron showed up. Turning around, measuring tape still against about half the length of the wall, she gave Cameron a toothy smile. "Hey Cameroni!" Like calling him by that nickname was something she often did (((spoiler alert: it wasn't))). In fact, they never really hung out together much at all. Despite all of this, Zoryn felt like they were friends, y'know? He was a suuuper friendly dude, or maybe it was just his face.
All of this to say, she wasn't sure if she wanted to trust him with her business plans. So his question (albeit, a simple one, was much more complex than he had probably intended it to be). And after some consideration she opted for a simple answer. "Oh, just taking some measurements!"

The nickname caught him off-guard and left him standing there, blinking at her for a second or two. What? Where had that come from? Honestly, before coming to Hogwarts he had been sure that ‚Cam‘ was the only nickname possible for his full name. Apparently not. So far he‘d received TWO different ones, including Zoryn‘s. He wasn‘t sure if he liked this one, though. It sounded like food. Like pasta. A little like cannelloni.
ANYWAY.

Zoryn didn’t understand why Cameron went blank all of the sudden. It’s not like she even said anything that strange. Let’s be real, Cameroni. You’ve heard her say and do way weirder. You’d think the boy’s tolerance would’ve gone up by now. To say the least, Zoryn wasn’t not so much surprised but she was slightly disappointed.
How did measuring tapes work again? She knew how to get the tape up, but how the heck were you supposed to detract this th— “EEP!” The yellow tape began to rush downwards and in a moments panic Zoryn couldn’t think of anything better than to throw it across the corridor mid-retraction so it didn’t squash her fingers. The tool fell to the ground with a loud *THUD!* but she was much less focused on that now that Cameron had posed his next question.
“….” Hmmmmmmmm. She sized him up, giving him quite a look. “Can I trust you, Cameroni Tamesis?” She wasn't sure that she could. Also, was it okay if she called him that? ‘Cause it was starting to stick.

What? The nickname had surprised him, that‘s all.
Cannelloni- no, Cameron was still waiting for her to explain what she was doing when...her tape measure apparently realized that, yes, gravity ALSO applied to it. With a surprised yelp, Cam jumped back slightly as well even though it wasn‘t technically heading his way. Honestly, though, he wasn‘t sure how good Zoryn‘s aim was. Although thinking about it NOW she should have good aim or else she wouldn‘t have been made Quidditch Captain.
Had he even congratulated her for her badge yet?
He could do that later though. For now he was more interested in just WHAT she was doing with that tape. What she was measuring. Apparently he was being made to wait a little longer, however. Trust him? “Trust me with what, Zoryn Spinnet?“ Heh. He didn‘t have a fancy nickname for her, unfortunately. Not yet.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... She was gonna just let it sit there. Tape measures were a hazard.

Anyway, that wasn't all too important anymore as her focus had taken on a new subject of choice. HMMMMMMMMM... "I have a b--" her eyes narrowed upon realization that she had ALMOST been fooled into answering the boy's original question without knowing!! Huh. Y'know, Slytherins were pretty clever sometimes. And maybe on any other day, it would've worked. But not today 'cause this was IMPORTANT and she didn't need anyone stealing her idea before she even got it on its feet. "I can't tell you 'what' 'til I know I can trust you."
Again, she sized him up, "okay look, if I tell you, you've got to promise that you won't steal my idea." The Gryffindor outstretched her hand, because this was a very binding promise he was about to make (assuming he'd agree) and they needed to shake on it. Z didn't play games aside from Quidditch, obviously.

Cameron didn't usually try to trick people but right this second he hadn't been able to resist. Plus, he did really want to know what she was up to now. BUT on the other hand he didn't want to be a part of it if it was something that could get him into trouble unnecessarily. And saying that she could trust him felt a little like agreeing to help her or at least not to share her secret.
A small smirk on his lips, he eyed her right back as he waited for her to decide whether or not she could in fact trust him. And apparently she had decided that yes, she could indeed. "I won't. I promise." That he felt confident to do. Stepping a little closer to her, Cameron even looked around to make sure they were alone in the corridor.

"Okay, good," she gave him what couldn't exactly be described as a smile 'cause she was still trying to be all serious about the matter. It was like they were sorta making a business agreement, y'know? She was impressed with his commitment to the promise and followed his suit, looking around to check the corridor before taking a step closer to him in an attempt to lessen any chance that someone aside from Cameron would hear her idea.
"Okay, SO, I heard that once they had these toll turbines around the school so that people would have to pay to go places in the castle!" She waved her hands around to emphasize and definitely broke into a mischievous grin because this was PASSION work. "I'm gonna make one." Zoryn wasn't planning to tell him the WHOLE story, but he had promised not to steal the plan and.... She was an excited Gryffindor, so really holding back wasn't ever a possibility.
"Hogsmeade is coming up, y'know? Ya girl needs some extra sickles," it was true. Her parents wouldn't be giving her any more money this year after they had already dropped a ton on her new broom.

Cameron didn't know whether or not he should laugh. Tolls? She wanted to build a toll booth basically? On this corridor? THAT was her plan?
Somehow he managed to keep his face void of emotion, however. He didn't want to antagonize her after all. Still, he stayed quiet for a moment, processing her idea. "And you want to make one here?" Cameron looked around again in an attempt to figure out the reason why she had chosen this exact place.

Yet her idea was so ridiculous.
So her ultimate goal wasn't just ONE but more than one toll booths. In various places and corridors around the castle. And she ACTUALLY believed that would work? As much as he respected Zoryn, Cameron didn't think she was any good at unbreakable protection spells or anything like that. So...really?
"Well-" How to put this nicely? "-I don't think it's gonna work." There. He stepped a little closer to her still, lowering his voice. Listen, isn't the dream more important than the follow through anyway?
Zoryn could already see the coins piling in. Of course people wouldn't be too happy about it at first, but surely they'd grow accustomed to the fee and pay up eventually. Bentley and Blaise made them pay a Common Room fee a couple of years ago, so of course this plan would work.
Only... Cameron Tamesis didn't seem to think so. The Gryffindor's giant smile quickly faded into a frown as she tried to come up with an argument to combat what was being said against her idea. "Well that's why I chose this corridor! Don't you SEE, the only classroom on this floor is Ancient Runes and Hawthorne has her fancy office downstairs," Did he see what she was trying to get at here? "Soooooo they probably won't be around all too much to see!"

Though, it didn't exactly sound like he was entirely convinced. Actually, it sounded like just the opposite. He wasn't actually catching on, was he? He was pointing out another flaw in the system.
Dang.
The more Zoryn had to explain the idea, the less it was starting to sound like a good idea and now she was at the drawing board all over again. Not that she could tell that to Cameron. 'Cause Zoryn didn't admit defeat; she wasn't a Hufflepuff.
The Gryffindor crossed her arms and gave him a ~~~~look~~~~~~~.
"Have you got a better idea, Cameroni?"
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?
Because if so please do say it, she really did need some.
