The Courtyard is where the students spend their time between lessons if they’re not in their Common Room or the Great Hall. Its architecture reveals the Courtyard to be one of the oldest parts of the castle. It connects the castle with the Grounds and also leads to the Wooden Bridge.

In the middle of the Courtyard stands an antique ceramic fountain, perfect for admiring your own reflection or making wishes at. Be aware that once your coin has been tossed into the water, you may never get it back as it will continue to sink. Be careful not to fall in as an attempt of retrieving it, the staff does not usually fancy a swim in the fountain to fetch little students.

In between classes, the Courtyard is usually filled with students enjoying some sun before heading back into the castle again. Whether you choose to occupy one of the many stone benches or enjoy a picnic in the warm lush grass, the Courtyard is the perfect place to relax with your friends from all houses.

Miranda needed to get a bit of fresh air... Clear her head of everything that didn't include school and trying her best to make up for lost time... This term she was going to be mission oriented.. This was her OWL year and she wasn't about to mess it up.. Not at all.

There was only one thing that would derail her too... And his name was Eddie.
Her younger brother had a new sidekick this term too... Their youngest brother,
Eivan.

Joy strolled into the courtyard, her head spinning after a busy day of classes. She was very smart, but sometimes she could get overwhelmed. She found a bench and sat down, with a sigh of relief as her muscles relaxed. She closed her eyes and listened to the bubbling of the fountain in front of her. The noise was so soothing.

Joy grinned softly. She had only been at Hogwarts for a few days, but it already felt like home. She stretched her tired body and looked around for other students. Maybe there was someone here who would want to be her friend. Although she could enjoy time by herself when she wanted to, Joy loved making friends.

Holding Ammonite, his purple colored toad in his hands, Dorian walked through the courtyard to get to the fountain in the middle. Ammonite wriggled in his hands as he crossed the yard, trying to escape but he held the creature tight. Not too tight of course.

He had always wanted an owl but because money was low for his dad and he had refused his granddad to buy one for him, he got stuck with a toad. Still, there was something surprisingly funny about these creatures.

"Hi" he said to a girl around his own age before he sat down on the edge of a bench, Dorian placed the purple toad on his lap and held it down with one hand, the other was used to open his bag and he took out a puzzle book.

Opening the wordsearch puzzle book on the page he had been during the start of term feast, he grabbed a muggle pen and began scratching a word he had found while listening to the girl next to him. He hadn't had the time to finish it since classes had taken most of his time. He loved the classes though, everytime he could learn was a good day for him.

Dorian smiled at the girl next to him as she held out her hand. Still holding the toad with one hand, he let go of the pen and shook her hand. "His name is Ammonite" he said, pronouncing it as AmmoNighTuh to make it sound different than the original name. "And i'm Dorian Katharos" he looked around the courtyard for a second before turning his attention back to her. "Do you like it here? I think its magical" he actually laughed at his own little joke.

Family tradition... The Ravenclaw turned his head to look at her. Really look at her. "So, you're a ..." what was it again? oh! Right "Pureblood then?" he asked. Was he allowed to ask someone their blood? Or was that concidered rude? "My dad was in Slytherin, he was a Prefect AND quidditch champion" important details, yes. "Which House were your parents in?"

Dorian looked around as well when she did and he had to admit that she was right. "I hope to discover many secret passage ways and hidden rooms during my time here" he said, his blue eyes staring in the distance as he thought about it. "I found a short cut yesterday to the owlerly, that was cool" though now that he thought about it he wasn't entirely sure if it actually was a short cut but whatever.

Patrick walked out into the courtyard. He had been enjoying getting familiar with the castle, finding some of the hallways that led to classrooms periodically. His dad hadn’t told him much about Hogwarts other than the beauty of the castle and that after seven years he would miss the school. His mother had told him about the courtyard, how she would sit there for hours under the sun and watch the students walking around.

He found a place to sit down to watch the other students walk by. He was still trying to figure out which extra-curriculars he would join throughout the year. He opened a journal writing down how his first few days went, he wanted to remember everything from this experience. He looked up at the people walking around wondering if he would continue to make friends, if he would become popular and be a known name around the castle, or maybe he would end up being the next prefect. He tapped the pen he had in his hand, before writing everything he just thought down.

A girls voice stopped Patrick's hand as he looked up. A curious look was on the girls face as he looked back down at his journal. "Oh, just writing my experiences so far. And trying to decide what activities I want to be a part of." He smiled at the girl.

It may have seemed odd that he write down what he was experiencing. Journaling was totally different than looking through a yearbook or through your memories. It might have been a habit he had picked up from his mother, because she kept a journal about each kid, her life, she wrote everything down. Her answer was always 'one day you won't remember things so well. Keep writing things down.' His brothers occasionally wrote things down but not like Patrick did. He had a totally different relationship with his parents than his siblings.

Homework wasn't getting any easier the older she got, a fact that mildly disappointed the growing Slytherin. Julie had had it all planned, you see, her first few terms would be built up of solid scores, good rapport with her teachers and a squeaky clean record -The foundations of a long lasting and stellar school career- and then four through seven she was meant to sail through on her already extensive knowledge, become prefect and head girl and maybe save the school from some disaster along the way to cement her place in Hogwarts History.

clearly, the school and the staff hadn't got the memo. Julie was struggling through this Potions essay. struggling. struggling.

This was just... Unacceptable. Julie scribbled out her notes, spreading the books open once more on the cobblestone floor of the courtyard and started up again.

The properties of Moonstone (also known as The Wishing stone) are...

My brother did a similar thing when he was here and then shared the journal with me when I came here. He had a couple of facts and stories that really helped me during my first year." She'd have to find the journal. It was somewhere in her dormitory.... Most likely in her trunk under a pile of sweaters as she already was starting to feel cold in the evenings.

"Would you mind if I joined you?" she asked, glancing at the boy. Her curiosity was peaked indeed and she wanted to learn more. "I'm Olivia by the way." Generally names were a good thing to share when you meet someone. At least, she hadn't waited until the end of such a conversation to introduce herself. Phew.

It was really easy to fall back into the old Hogwarts routine again, even after the long summer holidays. Surprisingly easy, to be honest. Probably because it was already his THIRD year at Hogwarts though. His third. Sometimes even Cameron had to remind himself that he'd already gone to this school for two whole years. There were only five more to come, counting this one.

Only five.

How was he supposed to learn EVERYTHING in those five years?

Having finished his assignments for the day, Cameron had decided it was time for a walk which was how he'd ended up outside in the courtyard. Ooh. Look who it is! A smile on his lips he quickly made his way over to his friend before sitting down on the ground next to her. "Hey. What are you doing?" Also why out here? There were so many distractions out here.

He shook his head, hair flopping on his forehead, "Not at all, please join me." he closed his journal for the moment so he could give Olivia his attention. He liked to give people his full attention because it was terrible to not listen to a person when they went out of their way to talk to you.

At the mention of older siblings his head hung a bit. His brothers couldn't share in their experiences or leave him words of wisdom. His parents told him a few things here and there, but they had gone through Hogwarts so long ago that they didn't really have perspective about the castle anymore. "That must be nice to have an older sibling to make sure you know the ropes." He commented as he scooted over on the bench for Olivia to sit down. "Oh I'm Patrick by the way, nearly forgot," his dimple showing as he smiled.

There was some progress happening but it wasn't amazing or stupendous by any means and Julie was already beginning to mentally dub this essay a dud. It felt... Bulky. Messy, and poorly worded. The Slytherin had half the mind to scrape this draft and start over again but the effort was... a bit much even for Julie Bellaire to commit to.

Cameron showed up before she could properly start beating herself up over it, never the less, the smile that had appeared quickly turned into a self-deprecating scowl at the Slytherin boy's question. "Potions essay. On Moonstone. I've written and rewritten it about a hundred times now." Could he feel her ire? her angst? her failure? Julie tucked her quill behind her ear and started agitatedly wrapping up the parchment, lest Cam sneak a peek and be treated to the frankenstienian monster that was her homework.

"What are you up to?" Julie asked, looking up from her working hands to peer into her dear friend's face.

Olivia offered him a smile. She nodded. "It is. I have two older siblings," she explained. "My older brother Simon who wrote the journal and shared it with me went here and graduated a few years ago. And then my eldest brother is Marc. He's a muggle." A muggle who used to think Simon and her were bizarre with their special school and all. "Do you have siblings?" she asked.

Patrick. What a lovely name indeed. It suited the nice boy in front of her. Well.. Beside her now. She took a seat on the bench next to him. "No worries at all. It's nice to meet you, Patrick!" she beamed. "Is this your first year at Hogwarts?"

A scowl was definitely NOT something he liked to see on Julie Bellaire's face. Not at all. So Cameron frowned too. Only this was actually something he could maybe help her with. "Do you want to have a look at mine?" He asked, glancing down at hers but not in time to actually SEE anything because she was fast to put it away.

Why he was out here was easily explained too. "I'm just taking a walk." Cameron replied, offering a smile again, hoping to see one in return.

She adored them but Marc could really be a handful at times. "Did they go to Illvermorny?"

She shook her head. "No, not too easy. You seem pretty much at ease here. Some first years you can tell right away," she explained with a chuckle. Those were the first years that were jumping around either because they were so excited to be at Hogwarts or they had heard about the terrible monsters and were terrified of their own shadows... Clearly both depictions were exaggerations but still... The first years generally looked lost for the first couple of months. It was cute. "I just know that I haven't seen you around before."

Sure, she had been embarrassed by it all during the part but as soon as she had gotten to the Gryffindor table, the embarrassment had faded away. She had found her home. "If you need any help, let me know. I know what its like to be new."

He was so intrigued by learning about Olivia's family. "I guess i didn't even think about that." He scooted back on the bench some more, his family was a group of people. Growing up, his family was notorious for always being the loud and rowdy group of people in every place they went because there were six of them and always telling jokes or making laughter float through the room. "Having three older brothers was fun and terrible all at the same time. It was fun because I never had to worry about being bored at home because they were always doing something. But when they decided to pick on the baby," he shook his head with a small grin, "well when they ganged up on me mom usually had to get involved."

Ah, so other students were way more terrified than he was, well at least he knew that he didn't come off like a chicken with his head cut off. "I didn't realize that so many were so scared and jumpy." He had seen a couple of them in the great hall during the opening feast, but he had been too excited getting to know his fellow Slytherins to get distracted.

He felt like this girl would be a great friend to have to make sure he had a friendly face that hadn't exactly been around their whole life. "That's so kind of you. It is indeed strange being the new kid when these kids have been friends for so long."

Vi remained quiet, listening to Patrick speak about his family. She had an amused smile playing on her lips as she listened to his three older brothers causing mischief all together and then gaining up on the youngest. "Thank goodness for your Mum then," chuckled Vi. She could see it vividly in her mind. It reminded her of her younger cousins playing around and swinging lightsabers around the house during the holidays.

"Yes, but some of them had heard stories of Hogwarts in the past," she said. Vi didn't wish to scare the boy but she suspected that he would have heard the stories of it. If not... "Have you read Hogwarts, A History?"

She nodded in agreement, genuinely meaning the offer that she had made before. Vi was more than happy to help out. "Luckily you're starting in your first year so there's a lot of new people around too," she said with a kind smile. Besides most people were friendly at Hogwarts especially to those that were new and didn't know how to navigate their classes just yet. "What do you think of Hogwarts?" she asked, curious to hear his opinion.

He supposed that it was true, his parents had told him a few stories and the ghosts had given him the biggest fright because he wasn't expecting them when he arrived. "I haven't read Hogwarts, A History yet. Well i guess that's mostly because my parents have told me a bit here and there about their time at Hogwarts." Although, his parents hadn't told him much because they figure it would either scare him, or influence his time at Hogwarts.

He nodded vigorously, "I am so glad and thankful that I'm starting here and not coming in from another school. That would have been terribly awkward." It was already bad enough that so many of the older students squeeze and squeaked about the other first years and himself as if they were cute little animals needing to be taken in by a loving parent. The ones that he didn't like were similar to that Flynn guy he had met who seemed to dismiss first year students. Although he seemed to be a pretty well known or at least well liked enough by older students. "I like Hogwarts so far, it seems strange that I'm finally at school because I have seen my three older brothers go and complete school, but hadn't really realized that i'd be going so soon."

"It's a good read," she nodded. A Ravenclaw had suggested it to her when she had first started. Katherine had been her name? Yes. It had. Merlin. She hadn't seen Katherine in ages. Where had she gone off to? Vi had enjoyed meeting her quite well. Eyebrows raised when he mentioned that his parents had went to school at Hogwarts. She wondered if his parents had met at Hogwarts that would have been cool if they did. It would be like her brother and his girlfriend. They had met in their sixth year and had become friends but didn't start dating until much later. "What house were they in?"

His parents talked so highly of Hogwarts. "Oh my dad was a Slytherin, mom was a Ravenclaw. They met here, didn't start dating until a year after they graduated when they were both out with friends." Oddly enough, his family didn't care about what house you were in too much. There were stories he had heard here and there about how some families didn't speak to a kid if they were in a certain house.

"Sean is my oldest brother is 22, my twin brothers Alex and Dean are 19.
He wasn't ever treated like the baby of the family, until his brothers picked on him. He was born when his oldest brother was going off to school, and he was a few years old when his other brothers went off to school. "Growing up in America, I think I was always prepared to go to Ilvermorny. Since my parents went here it wasn't as scary, but I didn't have all of the secret tips that my brothers could have given me." He supposed that his brothers might have gotten him in trouble if they had all gone o the same school.
