Default Staff Table

On a raised dais situated at the farthest point from the Great Hall stands a long table where the members of the Hogwarts staff sit and enjoy their meal while casting a watchful eye out on the four House tables. Each staff member has an assigned cushioned chair to sit in throughout the duration of the feast, though the more notable out of them all is the throne-like golden chair in the centre reserved for the headmistress.

Keep in mind that you should not be wandering up to the staff table if you are not a staff member before Headmistress Hawthorne has delivered her speech. Doing so will result in the loss of points or worse before you even made it an hour into the term. If you wish to speak with someone who is seated up here, you will have to wait until after the speech has been said and there is food and drink on all of the tables. Make sure to keep your visit brief though -- the staff were also waiting on the food to appear and are just as hungry as you.

Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede!

Another fresh year or did you say fresh term? Regardless Laurel took her usual seat down two spots from Reginas throne chair and hid her cold hands in the emerald green shawl that she had wrapped around her shoulders for warmth over her light dark red rose patterned dress. She was ready for what she hoped would be a peaceful, but eventful term.

Letting her blue eyed gaze dart up and down the empty staff stable Laurel hoped that one of her colleagues would be join her soon or the time would go very slowly. Remembering the feathery bracelet that she had made for Haraldur earlier that summer, she pulled it out of her purse and placed it on top of the groundskeepers plate. Just a little token from her to him for their budding friendship.

Glancing down at her watch she hoped that none of the first years had decided to take an unplanned swim in the lake with the giant squid and Haraldur had to fish them out.

Kalen arrived in the great hall rather early, hoping he would be the first one to arrive and therefore give him some time to calm himself before the influx of kids. He felt a moments sadness and he remembered he wouldn't see a familiar face in the crowd.

His niece wouldn't be returning.

He felt a little lonely now with his family all gone, but he knew nothing lasted forever. Plus he had spent a lot of time with them over the summer.

As he walked fully into the room he saw another face already at the table. He wasn't the first, he just hoped she would pardon him for staying quiet.

He headed to his seat on the far left of the Dais and gave Laurel a warm smile but didn't say anything just yet. He settled down in his chair and started to make some tea, he needed it's comforting presence before he started to talk..

a bit of madness is key | miss chanandler bong | those cunning folks use any means

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANOTHER opening feast meant another summer was coming to an end. Praise Merlin. He would not miss the sun, the heat and the sweat that came with it. Eesh.

He hadn't had the time to properly converse with his colleagues when they all returned after summer. Even though he had returned to Hogwarts earlier than planned, he had just managed to get the grounds ready for the students to arrive. Before he headed up to the feast, he circled the grounds once more, admiring his work and then hovered up to the castle and the great hall.

He was in a particularly jolly mood when he hovered up to the staff dais, immediately smiling at his colleagues.

"Mr. Kennedy, hello, hello, hi." He nodded before letting his eyes drift to what used to be his dinner partner. "Miss Vance, how delightful.. Eh..." Yes. He was a bit confused why she was obviously on the wrong side of the queen's throne headmistress' seat. "Well... I... Well..." He hovered front and back in front of the table twice before eventually finding his seat. He placed his broom on the side and sat down where he always sat. He wasn't fond of change, if Miss Hawthorne wanted him to sit somewhere else she would have to shoo him away.

"Enjoyed the summer, you two?" He asked absent mindedly while making sure the feathers on his head were still looking as good as they felt. He briefly wondered, if not Laurel, who would grace him with their presence on his right side. While he contemplated this, he opened a small bag of peanuts under the table to snack on before the feast officially started. He was not a rookie anymore. It would take yeeeeeeeeeeeears before the food was actually served. He threw a peanut in his mouth and chewed on it loudly before looking over at the other two staff members present. "Looking forward to a new term?" Duh. Crunch, crunch, peanut-crunch.

River had a spring to his step as he made his way down (or was it up this time?) to the Great Hall after doing his usual rounds in the Hospital Wing and this time in the Dungeons. Although he'd been the school's healer for three terms now, he didn't venture much into the dungeons considering it was too damp for his liking. This term would be different, however. He would be spending more time (technically) under the lake to teach Potions.

Stuffing his hands into his trousers' pockets, River wore a smile on his face as he got up the dais and gave Kalen a quick squeeze on the shoulder to say hello, a nod towards Laurel, and quick pat on the shoulder for Haraldur. "Good evening to the three of you. I trust your summer went well?" he said as he made his way down the table, and sat comfortably on his new chair. If he was going to be honest, he liked his spot next to Regina because the view was exceptional from there...but then again, he didn't want that kind of attention, sitting right next to the middle. He glanced at his right, then to his left, and smiled to himself.

Well, someone's going to be thrilled with the new seating arrangement. It was a good thing he made an effort to look extra tonight. New haircut, new suit, and his signature scent of apple and bergamot.

While he waited for the rest of the staff to arrive, River leaned back on his chair and reminisced on the summer that went by. If the summer of 2092 had been wild...2093 was there to top it. He'd spent a good time in Prague (and France) right before Gaston got married. River and Hirsch made sure that the Charms professor was sent off properly with his best friend, bandmates, and colleagues both from the present and the past. It had been a memorable night...and some of the memories were tucked somewhere in a cave in Wales...?

More partying ensued as he went back to Brazil, and then to Germany to visit Hirsch and his mother. The woman knew how to party...and although there had been a bit of awkward encounter in the middle, it had been a good night. River...or perhaps Hirsch will never hear the end of it. The tail-end had been a bit stressful, however, as he was summoned back home to his parents' house to look after his father while en route to Bristol. It was a good thing that Richard was able to recuperate quickly, allowing their Healer son to pursue his plans with Camilla and Emmeline. He thought it was a bit rushed, given that his time with them had been cut short, but he did hope they enjoyed his surprise.

It was a brand new term, and Rosalyn was excited to see what the year would have in store for them. She also couldn't wait to see the students again, always missing her time away from them during the summer holidays. Not that she could complain about the last couple months; far from it as they had been beyond wonderful.

Entering the Great Hall, she smiled and waved to all of her colleagues who had already assembled. "Good evening, everyone! Are you all ready for the term to start?" Taking her seat she waited for the others to arrive. Soon enough it would be time for them to eat and she couldn't wait.

A new term meant a new beginning. A clean slate to start up a wonderful term after what was nothing short of a very eventful summer break. One that had gotten off to an incredibly rocky start but had blossomed into a whirlwind of different activities, talks, and events with Emmeline. That young girl had helped her see things in a new light and brought a clear sense of wonder even to the simplest of things... from watching tv, to cooking, to camping, hiking and trips to the muggle and wizarding zoos, the two had kept very busy. There was time spent with her family getting to know Emme as well. A lovely day out with Laurel, Rose and Kaysha that had been happening every summer since she became a Professor. Roselyn and Gaston's most beautiful wedding and then a surprise visit from River near the end of the summer. Yes, it had in deed been eventful.

Camilla was sad to see the summer end but once she stepped foot inside the Great Hall all that sadness washed away. Brown eyes drifted over the house tables that would soon be filled with students before settling on the staff dais where a few of her colleagues were already seated. "Good evening, everyone!," she greeted warmly a large smile on her face as she made her way to her seat.

"River," she whispered nodding her head slightly at the man whom would now be sitting beside her. "How was the remainder of your summer?" Cami slipped down into her seat taking note of the new suit and haircut. "Trying to impress someone?" she teased lightly in a whisper. Not that he even needed to try in her opinion.

Default Cause of Josies Haraldur post i went with Laurey sitting in Rodericks seat..
Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede!

Laurel closed her eyes for a moment to bask in the relative quiet of the empty great hall before the hall in just a few minutes would be full with loud chattering students. She opened her eyes just in time to see Kalen arrive and claim his new seat at the long tables edge. Laurel flashed him a silent cherry smile remembering his new position. Kalen wasn't just librarian anymore, but also Astronomy Professor.

Haraldur arrived some moments later with his broom in hand, feathers on his head and a sunny demeanour that just made Laurel grin warmly at the slightly senior man as he came up on the dais to find his seat. "Good evening, Mr Baldvinsson, you're looking very sharp tonight!" When Haraldur sat down in the seat next to hear Laurel realized that they were both sitting in the wrong chairs. Someone, probably Regina had switched the seating arrangement around after last year and Laurel hadn't taken notice. Letting her blue eyes dart up and down the table she calculated that she was sitting in Roderick's chair and that Haraldur was sitting in hers.

For now though she was going to let it be since Roderick hadn't arrived yet and she didn't have the heart to tell Haraldur that he needed to move two spots down. Laurel enjoyed his company. Smiling brightly she responded "My summer was very enjoyable. I got do all the things I planned to do and then some. Visiting a muggle spa is something I can definitely recommend. Did you have an enjoyable summer Haraldur?"

Ignoring the peanut crunching in her right ear which blotted out the new term question as Laurel focused on the next arrivals instead flashing River, Rosalyn and Camilla in turn sunny warm smiles "Good evening River, Rosalyn and Camilla!"

"I had a good summer vacation and I'm very ready and packed for the new term. How about you three? Excited for the new term?" Laurel asked as her eyes were drawn to the glittering ring on Camilla's finger. "Cami is that the ring you bought in Paradise on our girl's outing?"

Despite the holiday that had passed and the joy that had filled him up during the trip, there had been a somber expression to the Defence Professor's face the past few days that had very little to do with being back in the school. Two very different pieces of news had reached his ears about two of his students and, under the pretence of checking and re-checking the Defence rooms and the Ravenclaw common room, he'd naturally kept himself very busy.

It had taken a lot of self-coaxing and deep breathing to get himself down to the Great Hall for the feast. Besides, he was sure that there would be questions raised about his non-appearance so, here he was. Suit pressed, Ravenclaw badge pinned to his chest and a slightly forced casual look about him, Hirsch entered the Great Hall and made straight for the Dias itself. Green eyes first landed on Regina's empty seat and then moved along to where the new Astronomy Professor was seated. "Congratulations on the new position, Kalen," he said, shooting the man a small smile, "You must be very excited." Was he.... okay, by the way?

Another person who deserved being congratulated? Rosalyn, or Mrs Marchand as she was known as now. "Congratulations, Rosalyn." Even if he did say this at the wedding. "I hope married life is suiting you well?" And speaking of, where was Gaston, hm? Still recovering from the stag do?

His eyes then found someone else who'd been involved with the stag do and, from the looks of it, someone who looked like they were a little too comfortable with the new seating arrangement. A small smirk spread across his face and he gave River a small punch on his arm, as if to say congratulations, before turning to the woman sitting next to him. "Hey, Camilla. Had a good summer?" It was an innocently posed question but he couldn't help but look back at River and give him a raised eyebrow look. Keep it family friendly, okay? This was a feast, after all.

Moving around the table, Hirsch moved on over to sit in his se-

..........

..................

Er. He glanced at Haraldur, who was seated in Laurel's seat, and then at Laurel who was sitting in his own seat and then the empty seat that was Haraldur's. Had there been a seat swap that he wasn't aware of? Or was this Haraldur's idea of a practical joke? Considering how many surprises the feather-clad man was full of, he wouldn't have been surprised if this was true. This was a man who could sing opera-style, even if he was under the influence of a Singing Charm at the time.

So, Hirsch did the only logical thing in this situation and sat down in the empty seat on the other side of Regina's throne. There. If the woman had any complaints, he'd swap, obviously, but something told him she might not be as upset about the new arrangement. He wasn't exactly bad company, was he?

Settling down in his seat, he leaned forward and smiled slightly in the direction of Laurel first and said, "Hey, Laurel! Had a good summer?" His eyes then found Haraldur and he paused. He had nothing against the man, no, but a very vivid memory from Gaston's stag do came back to him, one that involved feathers and he couldn't help but wonder if the Groundskeeper had a secret double life that he wasn't telling the others about. "Hey, Haraldur. How was your summer?" Had he been in Prague? He needed to know.

The view from the new seat was different, something that had been noted when he looked up and around the Hall properly. Almost instinctively, his eyes were drawn towards the Ravenclaw one and they lingered on there longer than necessary. The emptiness of the table stood out the most, as if it was openly mocking him and causing something heavy to tug at his heart. A hand reached up and brushed the pin on his chest with his thumb but his thoughts were somewhere else completely.

This...... was going to be a long feast, wasn't it?

Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch

The Hat was rather chatty today. Regina quickly observed that the moment she plucked it from its resting place on one of the shelves in her office. The tear along the brim flapped nonstop as she departed her office, walked down the corridor, and made her way down the stairs that would take her to the Great Hall. Considering what day it was, the headmistress did not mind. She found the old thing intriguing.

By the time she slipped into the large dining room, the woman had to admit that she had grown tired of the very one-way conversation that was happening now. The hat held firmly in her hand had gone on a tangent about those it had sorted years and years ago. Of course, she allowed for it to ramble on and on as she quickly walked between the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tables toward the stool placed in the front-most part of the dais.

"Sorry to cut you short, but we've arrived," she quietly told the Sorting Hat, setting it down and making her way toward the left end of the long staff table. She paid no attention to anything else it might have said.

Blue eyes glistened at the sight of the Astronomy professor/librarian, pleased to see that he had found his new seat. "How's the view from this side of the table treating you, Kalen?" the American asked, temporarily resting her hand on the back of Bethany's chair.

Regina's gaze shifted toward the rest of the table. She gave those on the other end of the table -- Rosalyn, River, and Camilla -- a polite wave. It was observed that the healer and Potions master had adjusted to his new seat rather well. A smile was sent in his direction.

Her smile, however, wavered slightly at the sight of Laurel and Haraldur. It made the headmistress wonder of the two were even aware that, with Kalen moving to the other end of the table because he was teaching Astronomy along with tending to the library, there had been a shift in seating. She contemplated stopping mid-conversation to tell the two off for messing with her purposeful seating arrangement, but it was the sight of Roderik in what was supposed to be Haraldur's seat that stopped her.

The smile returned to its original state as she gave the Defence professor a wave and one of her looks that he would be able to translate with ease. She most certainly wasn't going to complain about this outcome, and she would be taking her seat next to him soon enough.

"And how is the Astronomy Tower looking?" she prodded further, her full attention returning to Kalen.

The quiet hadn't lasted for long, for almost as soon as Kalen had seated himself, the groundskeeper in his typical furs swooping into the Great Hall, he had to hand it to Haraldur the man certainly knew how to make an entrance, even if he wasn't on his broom right now. "Hello Haraldur, How are you this evening?" He asked with a warm smile as he looked down at his tea cup, please to see that it was now fully stepped and ready to drink.

He took a small sip before responding.

"I did indeed, and you?" He asked softly, he had enjoyed his summer, though at the current moment he was thinking about an event he had gone to, and if he was honest he didn't remember half of the stag night, what had exactly happened? Not to mention what was with the Owl back from a certain Ice Cream shop caretaker accepting his date offer? Not like he minded, apparently half conscious Kalen was rather romantic? Ehh.. Good to know.

Anyways, it had been fun and the wedding had been lovely.. made him tear up thinking about his own. ahh well..

Bygones, water under the bridge and all that, yeah?

He had spent the summer reconnecting with someone he hadn't seen in forever, and eating a lot of ice cream. Add to that Leon's engagement, Azura's leaving and the new position he had been asked to do, the summer was fairly busy.

The new Professor nodded to River as he walked in and squeezed his shoulder. "Summer was good, and yours? " The librarian said with a smile as he took a sip of tea, steadying his nerves for when the rest of the staff arrived.

Rosalyn earned a warm smile as she walked in, bygones. Right. Camilla got a warm smile as well and a wave. Laurel got her smiled returned as well.

He was excited about his new position, not to mention his new seat! It was super cushy over here and he grinned a bit to himself. Finally the degree he got was paying off.

He looked over at Hirsch and almost instantly he grew a bit concerned, he didn't look well. Not to mention there was a letter in his pocket for the Ravenclaw head of house, one he practically had to pull from the hands of his niece, one for River as well. "Thanks Roderick, I am very excited about it." He said as he eyed the other man for a moment. "Everything all right? " He asked softly.

He does as just about to take another sip of his tea when the Headmistress stopped by his new chair. "I love the view from this side of the table, very nice. " He said with a smile up at Regina, he was excited about his new position, and his new spot. "The Tower is all set up and ready to go. No issues as well. " He was quite happy with the things he had done, not to mention an office out of the library! That was exciting.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Arriving later than usual seemed to have become Kaysha’s trend as of recent. It suited her just fine since she wasn’t necessary late. She was already smiling at the prospect of the new school year, the new students and for the lessons. “Good evening, everyone!’’ There was a beam to greet everyone but Kay made it her business to pause first by Laurel. “It’s a pity we sit so far from each other. Enjoy the feast.’’

The Muggle Studies woman nodded to Kalen, Haraldur, Roderik and Regina as she made her way to her end of the Dais. Rose, River, Cam.’’ Surely the latter two were happy with the new seatings. So many changes were happening in the lives of her colleagues. And hers? It was at a standstill. Kay wasn’t complaining. She liked a quiet life.

Falling silent, she directed her attention to the Sorting Hat. The Sorting was always the most interesting thing to happen during the Starting Feast.

Tristan decided to wear something different tonight. He ditched his leather jacket and went with a very dapper suit. No tie. He has to have a bit of casual, otherwise he would feel like he was dressed too formally. He also wanted to look as good as he possibly could, mostly to hide how he was feeling on the inside. Looking good always made you feel better right? Right!

It looked as if he was one of the later Professors this evening, not that he minded. He quickly made his way up to the dais. "Evening everyone! You are all looking lovely this grand night." He said with a big grin, making his way to his seat, noting that.....Kalen was sitting next to him now? Kale had been keeping secrets!

He made his way to his seat, patting Kalen on the shoulder. "Did you forget to tell me something, Kale?" He said as he ruefully raised an eyebrow.

"It had been epic as you know. You were there, Kalen." River winked at the Librarian and new Astronomy professor as he leaned over the table to get a better view of the man. River still cannot believe what transpired that night. He was rather amused with what he discovered amongst his male colleagues. "Speaking of your new post, I suppose a visit to your new office is in order? I have things to consult regarding Potions." he'd been preparing for this new term, despite the somewhat short notice of his new appointment. He, and perhaps the rest of the staff were expecting a new face after Ciara made her resignation known, but that didn't happen. River was surprised of course, given the fact that he did not dream of being called a Potions Master. Professor River Reed...? Perhaps he'll stay with the title Healer. The former sounded daunting, to be honest.

The Healer nodded and grinned at the Divination's professor and took his goblet to take a sip of water. "Oh, I would say I am Laurel. I never imagined teaching a core subject this time," he replied with an amused tone. River however, missed Laurel's question directed at Camilla. He'd been too busy reminiscing that time when he got his appointment papers while in Germany partying with Hirsch's mother. The timing was a bit inconvenient considering that the letter was about his work, but then the night turned into something more memorable. The Hirschs were the first to know of his new job, and it only led to more...celebration.

River subconsciously reached for his collar with his right hand to fix it when he saw Camilla arrive. Her smile, apparently, did things to his stomach and chest. It felt weird, but for the first time in so many years, he didn't mind. The empty seat to his left was finally occupied and River had to raise a brow at her, amused. "Camilla, hello." he said coolly as he gave her his full attention. "It had been relatively peaceful. I spent my last days with my family, teaching them how to take care of Kelly, my parents' new Corgi pup." he thought she'd be good for them since they are both old, and would need to have some sort of entertainment from another friendly being. Camilla's next whispered question was met with a grin. River caught himself saying 'you.' in his head, and he immediately reached out for his goblet to have another sip. Where did the heck that come from anyway? Was he starting to lose his control this early? "Perhaps I am," he said after placing his goblet back down, not really wanting to meet her eyes. He didn't want to give anything away...or should he?

The Healer looked away, desperate to talk about something else when he caught sight of the Superior Mastermind of Summer 2093. River scoffed and chuckled as he eyed Hirsch as he did his rounds of greetings. The punch on his arm was met with a knowing grin, as if, he knew exactly what the man was thinking. The raised brow was met with a curious look of his own as if telling him that he hasn't done anything...yet. "I do wonder though where the leather jacket went. Did mummy gave you a lecture about it?" River could imagine Mrs Hirsch giving his son a good old lesson about looking professional in their field of teaching. Ah. The things he had uncovered while he was in Germany. So many cards against Nikki, to be honest. As the Defence professor continued his greetings, River almost choked on his own saliva when Roderik asked Haraldur about his summer. It was a very innocent question, but...not quite if given the right context.

Regina's polite wave and smile were returned with his own, observing that she's in a rather good mood. He wondered if it was coming back to Hogwarts with a clean slate, or if it was because of...someone else? Brown eyes then fell on Hirsch, and River had to hide his grin. Now that the stag do was done, he'd definitely have the time to do his interrogation. He needed to know.

Tristan arrived, and the man was given a wave and a nod to acknowledge his greeting. He'd have to see him at some point too, considering his new position. River would be needing his help for obvious reasons. As he ran his questions for the man in his head, his eyes briefly looked at the empty tables before them. Hmm.

The Healer was quick to raise his goblet when Rosalyn arrived at the Dais. "Congratulations again, Rose." he hoped they enjoyed their wedding gifts for her and Gaston. Hers was a bracelet with their initials and wedding date engraved on it, and Gaston got cufflinks with Rose's initials. He and Roderik had a hard time deciding on it given the fact that they lacked a woman's advice. Hopefully, it was well received.

Now that the seat on his right was filled, River too smiled at his colleague in greeting. "Hello Kay," he said and followed her gaze towards the Sorting Hat before them. "I hope we get more Ravenclaws this term." he added winking at her. There's nothing wrong with rooting for their old house, correct?

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

Ah, the start of another term at Hogwarts.Gaston wasn't exactly sure how he felt about that. This summer had been one of the happiest of his life- no disapproval, no expectations, just two months with his new wife at his side. A part of him hadn't wanted it to end! But end it did, and now it was already time for the start-of-term feast. How time flies when one is having fun!

He entered the great hall with a smile on his face, but it faded slightly when he saw that everyone besides Paul had already arrived. Merlin's beard! He wasn't late, was he? Because a telling off from Regina Hawthorne wasn't his idea of a good start to the term... or a good start to anything, for that matter! He nervously fidgeted with his wedding ring. If anyone asked, he'd had a few last-minute things to finalize. "Good evening, all," he said as he neared the table. The Headmistress received a rigidly polite nod in acknowledgement; every one else got either a smile or a wave. "Did everyone have a good summer?"

Blink, blink. Gaston's bright blue eyes widened in confusion when he saw Laurel, Haraldur, and Hirsch. Uh... were they sitting in the wrong places or was he? He could already tell this new seating arrangement was really going to mess with people's heads! Still, it was nice to have a change of pace - and even nicer to see a new face at this end of the table. The dark-haired Frenchman turned to Kalen with a smile. "Congratulations on the new position!" he said. "How do you like the astronomy tower so far?"

Then his smile turned into an all-out laugh as he overheard Rose ask if everyone was ready the start of the term. "Is that a trick question, Rose
?" he asked jokingly. "How would it look if I said no?" Such a shame they were seated too far away to have a proper conversation! There was a slight tinge of longing in his eyes as he looked at her, but it didn't last long. He glanced out at the doors, anticipating the arrival of students at any moment. Was it too much to hope for a huge class of new ickle Gryffindors to lead and nurture?

Despite the fact that this summer had been one of the best ones in her entire life - if not the best - Rose was REALLY happy to be at Hogwarts and talking to her colleagues. Not as if she hadn't seen some of them over the holidays, in fact she had seen just about everyone... Still, it was great to be back at work and teaching students about history even if they didn't particularly enjoy it. Well, a lot of them didn't at any rate...

"Hey, Cami!" she said with a big smile on her face as one of her good friends arrived. "You are looking lovely. Looking forward to school starting up again?" The new seating arrangement MUST be pleasing to her seeing as it placed her right beside River. For a couple years now she had felt that they would make a great couple. Hopefully they would see it one day and something would happen; of course it would be perfectly fine if it didn't and they remained friends. In the long run Rosalyn just wanted them to be happy even if it wasn't with each other and with other people instead.

Rosalyn's attention then turned to Laurel and she found herself wishing that she could sit closer to her friend. That was the problem with such a long table. She couldn't sit close to Gaston or Tristan either. Thinking about those two made her wonder where they were and when they would show up... "It's nice to see you again, even though we saw each other not too long ago. How are you doing?" It seemed that Laurel was in a good mood, so that was wonderful! Her friend deserved all of the best things in the world.

"Thanks again, Roderik. I really liked the present that you and River got for me. It's absolutely beautiful." Even though she had already said something about it, didn't hurt to show more appreciation. They had been absolutely amazing with the stag party and everything. "Oh, it is suiting me well. I don't have any complaints yet." Hopefully he would get that she was being silly and doubted that there would ever be any serious issues. "Did you have a good rest of your vacation?" Something seemed a bit off with him, and Rosalyn hoped that her question wouldn't cause any problems.

Annnnnnd there was the Headmistress with a rather chatty Sorting Hat. Now that was rather amusing... Rosayn sent the woman a smile. "Hello, Regina. How are you doing this evening?" Maybe it was a good thing that Gaston hadn't arrived yet because she always managed to make him feel awkward and uncomfortable. Hmm.

Seemed that there was a lot of congratulations being given to Kalen, and Rosalyn was about to add more in. She flashed him a smile. "Congratulations on the new position. Are you ready for your lessons yet?" She was going to guess yes, but there was always the possibility of needing to put final touches on things; goodness knows she did that a lot when new ideas came to her or she decided that something wasn't necessary. Astronomy had never been her best class either, so it was making her brain start to swim just thinking about all the science that would be involved... While certain sciences were okay, space got into things that went WAY beyond her comprehension.

Kaysha showed up, and Rosalyn smiled at her best friend as she took the seat beside her. "I am so glad to see you, Kay." Even though they had just spent time together recently. "You are looking absolutely lovely like always." Her friend had no right to be so pretty. As she thought that, Tristan decided to show up after taking his sweet time. "There you are," she said with a smile as she watched him take his seat. "You are also looking very well. But then you always look good in blue." Some people might think that she was flirting with him, but that was FAR from the case; Tristan was just her best friend along with Kay.

There were more congratulations for her, this time coming from River. "Thanks again! As I just told Roderik, I absolutely loved the present and I know Gaston loves his as well." Which Rosalyn was sure that he would have commented on if he was here. "And congratulations to YOU on the new position. You ready to teach the students all about potions?" This was a subject that she was better at than Astronomy, though she was still nothing compared to Uncle Art. As much as she adored River, it still pained her to think that her uncle wasn't teaching anymore. If only he was still at Hogwarts... She really missed him even though they spent time together during holidays and wrote to each other.

Saddened by those thoughts, she didn't notice that Gaston had arrived until he had spoken to her. Where had be been??? Probably in his office getting something or another ready... No matter, at least he was here now. She laughed. "I am sure that you will be VERY happy when you see your Gryffindors. Especially the new ones who will need help adjusting to the school." He really did think about the students like they were his children in the same way that she did.

Time for the FEAST. Paul was not late, not by any means. He knew the students weren't there YET. But he had taken a little extra longer getting here because he had been chatting with Milton in the floo, in the grate in his office. His hair was a bit out of sorts before of the laying on his belly to stick his head in the fire, and his pants had dusty knees. WHOOPS. Paul had practically jogged here in order TO make it before the students came, though, and so....he had not yet noticed either of those things.

Something looked different about the table, but he simply shrugged and went to take his spot next to Haraldur and Rosalyn. Well, in between them, which was normal. He always sat between them, right? Smiling at them both, he slipped into his chair.

"Hello H, hello Rose," he winked. "I expect you're both having a fabulous night so far? Looking forward to term?" he asked curiously. He was ready for term, for quite a few reasons, yeah? He wiggled in his seat excitedly. He needed to talk to Regina at some point for THINGS and PURPOSES.

Camilla's head turned at the sound of Laurel's voice and her smile widened. "As excited as always. Maybe even more so this term. I've got some wonderful things planned for my lessons." She had been working on lesson plans on and off for the entire summer break in her downtime. "It is. I love how simple it is but yet it adds that bit of shine and sparkle," she replied her eyes drifting down to the ring in mention. That day out with the ladies had been just what she needed during that part of the summer.

"Hello, Roderik," she greeted warmly as he neared the dais. "I did. It was about as eventful as my previous ones. How was yours?" Camilla looked between Hirsch and River. She wasn't going to question the raised eyebrow. At least not right now.

A smile and wave was directed towards Regina and Kalen. "Hello, cousin," Cami smiled as Kaysha took her seat on the other side of River. "Everything going alright?" Nothing at all wrong with checking in on family. Tristan also got a smile and nod in greeting when he arrived. "Good evening, Gaston," she returned the greeting with a wave of her own. Oh, look there was Paul as well! Hello, Paul! Camilla waved at him sending him a smile also.

"Thank you, Rose. So are you." They all looked amazing as always. A wonderful look staff they were honestly. "Indeed. I have some things planned that I hope the students enjoy. How are you, ready to be back?"

"Hello, River," she greeted once again laughing softly in amusement. Her complete attention was directed towards him for the moment as he spoke. "That sounds nice. Is your father doing any better at all?" Yes, she had heard that the man had been ill early in the summer. Camilla smirked. "Is that so? Do you think it's working?" she asked simply reaching for her own goblet and taking a sip of water before setting it down again. Well this was surely getting interesting.

Where were the students? Camilla's eyes drifted towards the house tables searching for Emmeline to make sure the young girl was alright.

"Oh, I'm very well Kalen, thank you." Haraldur smiled, watching the newly appointed Astronomy professor take a sip of his tea. Always tea. Always. He didn't understand what the fuss about hot water and dry leaves was but whatever float Kalen's boat. "Yes, thank you, my summer was very nice indeed. Congratulations on your new position." Up top, Mr. Kennedy! "All settled in the Astronomy tower?"

Haraldur smiled at Laurel's compliment. Yes, indeed, his feathers looked especially sharp this evening. He gave her a small frown when she mentioned a spa though. That was certainly not his idea of a summer well spent, but to each their own. "I'm glad you enjoyed your weeks off." Even though they had been spent at a spa. "The hot springs are as close as I will get to one of those spa-facilities though. My summer was definitely rewarding, thank you Laurel." He wasn't finished comparing his notes to the ones of previous travelers but concluded his journey had been successful nevertheless.

The old man felt a pat on the shoulder and looked up at the Healer/Potions professor/Young BOY. "Good evening." He boomed, taking note of a sudden whiff of... Apples? "Yes, yes a very successful summer indeed." He nodded and waited for the BOY-CHILD to take his seat. "Congratulations on your new position as well." Although he tried to limit his time spent in the dungeons, potions had always intrigued him. "Welcome to the struggle of not knowing your own title." He added with a slight mutter. It was confusing.

Then Rosalyn and Camilla arrived and he gave the two ladies a polite smile. Kaysha, Tristan and Gaston soon followed and he gave them all a smile and a greeting. He wasn't in the know of their personal lives. Not because he wasn't interested but because there were so much going on. SO MUCH. How they could keep up was a mystery to him. Of course, he knew Rosalyn and Gaston now shared a last name but the details were still unclear to him. He couldn't keep up with the others. He would have time to properly congratulate the newlyweds later. Kids.

The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor uttered his name and he looked over at the young man. "Good evening Roderik, good evening." He mused, flicking one of his feathers on top his head. "My summer was very interesting indeed; my trip was very satisfying."

...

Why was Roderik looking at him like that? Like he was trying to solve a puzzle. Haraldur stared back with an equal expression for an awkward moment or two before rolling up the sleeves of his long fur coat. "Did you enjoy your summer? Did you party like it's 2089?" He laughed at this. He laughed because he was funny. Just because he wasn't present during the wedding didn't mean he didn't enjoy hearing about it. And he did hear about it.

He noticed the Headmistress by Kalen and gave her a smile. The slight scowl his direction could only come from a place of affection. He was sure of it.

"Paul, good evening!" He liked the man. "Yes, yes fabulous night." He nodded. Fabulous wasn't a word he usually used to describe something but he supposed he was having a fabulous time. Sure, why not. "How was your summer? Eventful?"

Not long after the voice of the Sorting Hat was behind her, another voice, this one female, spoke up. Regina's blue eyes met the brown ones of Rosalyn Newt -- Marchand. Rosalyn Marchand. "I'm doing quite splendidly now that the hat isn't talking my ear off," the woman said, trying to keep that revelation lighthearted even though she was dead serious about it. Quickly changing the topic, she quickly added, "I know I've said it before, but the married life is doing wonders for you." Hopefully Gaston too. He could be so timid at times.

The headmistress paused for a moment with that smile on her face before moving on. There really was nothing else to say because she was already casually making her way around the table to get to her own seat. Lo and behold, she just so happened to make a brief pit stop that the complete opposite end of the table where Kalen was sitting.

While the Astronomy professor/librarian was speaking, Regina caught sight of River and Camilla's waves from the far end of the table and then a smile from an old Haraldur sitting in his old spot at the table. Again, had it not ben for Roderik taking that seat to what will be her left, something would have been done about it.

"Glad to hear that you have adjusted well -- the the new seat and to the Astronomy Tower," she responded as Tristan, Kaysha, Gaston, and Paul -- each of whom received a small wave -- made their entrance. "I'll have to make a visit soon and see what you've done with it."

It was Tristan's question to Kalen that caused one of her brows to raise and almost made her snort. Regina couldn't help but wonder how Tristan didn't know about the additional role his colleague was taking on and was trying to put the pieces together. The only thing she could conclude was that the Creatures professor was too busy dealing with the animals down in his barn. Or Kalen was just good at keeping secrets.

"Aaaaaand on that note, I'll be taking my leave. Enjoy the feast, boys." She gave Bethany a look, telepathically putting her in charge of holding the reigns at that end of the table.

Without another word, her heels clicked and clacked until she was taking her spot in the centre of the table. Regina took in a deep breath and then quietly exhaled before she turned her face toward Roderik. It didn't take her very long to see that his mind was elsewhere. Hello? Earth to Roderick! "Looking forward to the new term?" she asked him, gently placing a hand on his arm and then quickly retracting it before anyone else really noticed she had done so. "The students will be arriving any minute now."

Then, like clockwork, the doors of the Great Hall slowly creaked open and the throng of adolescents started pouring their way in.

Kalen looked up at the Headmistress spoke and he nodded. "Please, you are welcome anytime, I've made a few changes, not to mention brought back a few things that I hope people will enjoy. " He was certainly excited about what he had done.

However as his best friend slid into the seat next to him and spoke, Kalen gave his friend a bit of a sheepish looked and rubbed his neck a bit. He nodded as Regina left and he turned to face Tristan "I've been meaning to tell ya Mate, but with the wedding and then getting things ready. And you've been getting things ready... " Yeah this wasn't going super well at the moment. "I'm sorry.. Surprise?" He said with a half smile as he took a sip of his tea, hoping to calm his mild flustered manner when he noticed what Tris was wearing and one of his eyebrows raised.. "Trying to impress someone are we?" He said in a lowered voice. They had both been at the same wedding yeah? So why.. the suit?

More people filed past him and he nodded at Kaysha as she walked in, and he was grateful for River as he spoke and broke a bit of the tension between him and Tris, and a half smirk curled the green eyes man's mouth upwards as River spoke. "I was indeed there and it was quite epic. " What he could remember at least. It must have been truly epic if the best part of the night went by in a haze. He needed more guys nights like that, perhaps another one was in order this term? "Please stop by, I would love to have you. And of course, I can't wait to talk potions with you.. also.. I have another matter to discuss with you. " And a letter to give him. As long as he didn't hex the messenger, yeah?

Paul and Cami both got waves as they scooted past him, and he took another sip of his tea before another arrival made their way past his new seat. While the view was certainly better, the crowds were not!

"Thank you so much Gaston. " He said with a warm smile up at the Charms Professor, "I'm loving it up there actually, really fun, and watching the stars at night is soothing. " He said with a nod. Those nights up on the Tower had helped him calm down and focus on this new term.

Ahh more congratulations were coming his way, Merlin, he hadn't felt this in the spotlight since he had gotten married, though really all eyes had been on Serena, and who could blame them? His bride was stunning, and he still couldn't imagine why she had married him. Ahhh..

A nostalgic smile moved over his face as his hand moved to his bare ring finger on his left hand.

He snapped out of his day dream and smiled warmly at Rose and Haraldur "Thank you both, and yes everything is ready to go and settled. " He was indeed ready for the incoming term, and ahh speaking of the term.. Here came the students..

And there went any semblance of quiet..

Tea?

Tea.

Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede!

Laurel was fiddling around with her Slytherin green head of house pin that sat pinned to the front of her red dress when Roderick arrived on the dais. She was ready to rise and change seats but he didn't insist or even bring it up, he just took the empty seat next to Regina's throne. Laurel felt bad, she hadn't planned on sitting down in the wrong seat. It just happened. Turning her gaze to the Defence Professor and HoH colleague she smiled cheerily. "Good evening Roderick! I had a very good summer vacation. Was your summer good too?"

When Regina arrived with the sorting hat and didn't acknowledge her Laurel felt like it was a silent reprimand for sitting in the wrong seat. She couldn't move if Haraldur didn't move. Smiling brightly all the same she said "Good evening Regina, did you have a good summer?" She could be polite even if she might have aroused some irritation.....

When Kalen returned her smile she leaned forward slightly in her seat to look at him as she said with a beam "Congratulations to the new professor position Kalen! Are you looking forward to teaching classes?"

Laurel had poured herself something to drink and was quietly sipping on some pumpkin juice and contemplating the year ahead by the time that Kaysha arrived and stopped in front of her. Setting her goblet down Laurey flashed her dear friend a warm beam as she acknowledged a little sadly too "Kay, I know, its indeed a pity. Enjoy the feast on your end! I promise to come by your office tomorrow with tea and scones and we can have a girl's chat, okay?"

Tristan's sudden appearance at the table in a dapper suit made Laurel raise her brows in suspicion, why had the CoMC professor ditched his usual leather feast style? Was he trying to impress someone, and if so who? Confused Laurel smiled as Tristan rounded the table to claim his seat. "Hey Tristan, have you bought a new suit? Did you have a good summer?"

River chose that time then to catch for her attention again. Laurel turned her head to the Healer/Potions Master and offered. "I'm glad to hear it. I'm certain you'll handle teaching a core subject with ease River, but if you ever need any teaching advice I can try to assist even if potions and divination are quite different."

Glancing down at her wrist watch and then up at the closed Great Hall doors Laurel longed for the students to arrive and with it a big batch of new and older Slytherin students that she'd get to lead and nurture towards becoming promising young adults.. Her vision was blurred by Gaston's arrival. Raising her gaze to the Charm's man and fellow HoH she smiled "Hi Gaston! Congrats again to your marriage to Rose. It was a lovely wedding."

As if she knew that Laurel was thinking of her Rose spoke to her, responding to her earlier question. "It's nice to see you too Rose. I've been good, but I've been dreaming the same dream off late and I can't get it out of my head." It irked her enormously especially when she didn't understand the significance of it or its hidden meaning. "How have you been? Gotten everything unpacked already?"

It was then that Paul arrived looking dishevelled and out of breath with dust all over him and his hair on end. Smiling and waving to the Herbology Professor Laurel greeted "Good evening Paul!" It was all that she managed without prodding as to why Paul looked like he looked.

Laurel shifted her attention to Camilla as she responded with clear excitement in her voice. "Wonderful things for your lessons? Now you have me intrigued Cami and I won't be in your class...." Could they swap lesson tips in the staff room sometime perhaps?

Just as the students started to file in through the great hall doors and making their way to their different tables Haraldur accepted her compliment almost brushing her with a few of his feathers as he did so. Beaming at the elder man she asked "When is a good time in the day to try out the hot springs?" Gesturing around she leaned in and whispered in Haraldur's ear "I think we've upturned the seating arrangement."

Turning his attention back to Laurel, he gave the blonde professor a grin and a toast like gesture with his goblet, "Any help will be appreciated, Laurel. Thank you." These folks has been teaching most of their lives, and it would definitely be beneficial to ask for their advice. The only experience he had in teaching was through his seminars, but it wasn't exactly teaching, was it? Perhaps it was just the nerves talking, considering the fact that he was one of the professors who will be teaching those kids a core subject.

Brown eyes shifted to Haraldur, and for a split second, River had an alarmed look on his face. Successful summer? If he was thinking correctly, could it be that he'd been spying on them? Merlin. When will they ever learn to keep conscious of things when...certain stuff was bound to happen? River wanted to faceplant right then and there. The Healer quickly gave Roderik a glance, and then back to Haraldur, "Ah yes, thank you." He wasn't sure if he heard the rest of what he said though. Something about struggle and titles.

Still thinking about the possibility of Haraldur crashing their wingding a few weeks ago, he glanced up to where Kalen was sat and nodded his head in agreement. "How about tea time, tomorrow? Does that sound good?" River would've proposed sometime in the morning but his schedule won't permit him. First order of the day would be a double period in Potions specifically for NEWT level students.

And the last of the staff members have arrived. He was starting to get worried, especially for his former seatmate, Paul. He'd been out of sorts from last term's closing feast, and him arriving later than the Healer didn't help at all. It seemed he was in a better state now, despite the...appearance. "Good evening, Paul..." he said leaning a bit on the table to get a better view of the man. It was just polite and...it was a discreet way of assessing him if anything else was off. He was still the Healer of this school, after all. A grin and wave were sent towards Gaston when he'd caught him looking at Rose. He never asked his colleague if he had fun that night. Perhaps his wingman could check that out for the rest of the stag do team.

He then turned his attention to Mrs Marchand, and nodded. "You're welcome, Rose. And thank you for inviting us to your wonderful wedding." Paris had been great, to be honest. It offered the perfect background for a romantic wedding. Fit for his colleagues, definitely. River grinned at the next words and muttered another thank you. He'd been unsure about the proposal, but he'd taken it anyway for the sake of experience. He'd already taught seminars from two terms ago, and he'd been brewing potions almost every day in the Hospital Wing, with or without a dying student patient. "I'd like to think I am, however, you really don't know with these kids. At their age, they already have issues that are quite dramatic in nature," he said as he looked at the door briefly, the rumble of footsteps starting to get louder by the second, "One would be creature parts as potion ingredients. I've heard of such reports of course..." Walls can, after all, talk in Hogwarts. "I will be needing Tristan at some point..." his voice trailed off, as he reached out for his cutlery and straightened out his knife.

He was pulled back to the present by Camilla and nodded without looking at her. "Dad's feeling better. Had a bit of argument before I left because I had been paranoid over his condition. You can't blame me though. It's my job to worry." River said with a sigh as he reached for his brow to scratch it. Elder people tend to be a handful when they reach a certain age. No wonder his mother has been stressed out about the whole situation. While River can't see the smirk on Camilla's face, he could tell her expression just by listening to her voice. Straightening his salad fork this time, River leaned closer to her, his gaze still on his cutlery. "I can't see myself. Perhaps you can tell me." River smirked in return and straightened up in his chair as he heard the doors of the Great Hall open.

The calm before the storm has finally ceased.

Term has officially started.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

The woman beamed too. She had a feeling that she and Laurel would be friends for life. She was never tired of the other woman’s company. “I will try to. I look forward to that, Laurel. After all of our lessons are completed for the day, will that be okay?” Goodness knows she could always use a friend’s company to relax after the first day back.

“Everything alright?’’ Kay asked, lifting an eyebrow. Rose certainly saw enough of her recently. “Thank you. You do as well.’’ She remained silent now, trying not to listen to River and Cami. She never said anything about her own love life out aloud after Jordan but coupled with the loss of Robert years ago, now she had completely given up on hoping for one. She had nothing against her cousin and River dating, after all, it had been her to push Cami into dating him, but all she wanted now was the kiddos arriving to distract her. “Yes, everything’s fine,’’ she replied to Cami. Hearing River address her though, she nodded. “As do I. It would be lovely if Ravenclaw could once again secure the House Cup.’’

Tristan looked rather different, Kay observed. She watched him for a few moments as he approached, elbows on the table and hands linked together with her chin resting on them. She offered him a smile in greeting. Gaston got one too. He could not be forgotten. Paul’s appearance made her smile. Didn’t he realise he was a bit… dusty? Kay didn’t say anything though. One of her colleagues closest to him was sure to point it out.

Ah, there were the kiddos. Finally.

Now Kaysha didn’t have to dwell on worried thoughts of her still ailing father.

Gaston had barely sat down when Paul arrived. "Evening, Paul," he greeted the Herbology professor with a friendly smile, though his dusty appearance earned him a slight eyebrow raise. "Everything okay?" Cami and Kay each received a smile in return, and a smile for Haraldur too.

Then Laurel was speaking to him. "Thank you, Laurel," he said, smiling. "I'm so glad you enjoyed it." And he was sure Rose was too! Then he overheard her talking about a recurring dream she was having. That sounded ominous...
she wasn't seeing bad omens, was she? The thought crossed his mind to ask her about it, but he wasn't sure it was his place. But before he could think too much about it...

Blink, blink. Did he just hear what he thought he heard? Did Regina Hawthorne just say the married life suited Rose. That was... unexpected. He didn't think she approved of them as a couple. Luckily Kalen's voice distracted him before his surprise could show on his face. "You're quite welcome," he replied, returning his smile. "Yes, that sounds like a relaxing way to spend a night." He would know. He'd spent an number of sad, lonely nights in his past gazing at the stars, but those days were few and far between now.

Gaston caught sight of River's grin as he glanced down the table and returned it with one of his own. He was sure he must be thinking of the stag party. That had been the strangest weekend he'd ever experienced... well, what little of it that he could remember anyway! Most of it was just a blur. Rose's words made his smile grow even wider. She knew him so well! "Of course," he said. "I can't wait to meet the new students!"

And speaking of which, the students were arriving now. He gave those seated at the Gryffindor table a quick beam before turning his attention to the sorting ceremony. Each of the new arrivals got a round of applause, but his mood soon changed to concern as he saw one of his little Lion cubs (Beau)
didn't seem too happy with the hat's decision. Poor kid! He'd have a talk with him after Hawthorne's speech. Maybe he could cheer him up...
