Default Fat Lady's Portrait

If you're wandering around the seventh-floor corridor and you suddenly have the urge to cover your ears, you know you're steadily approaching the Fat Lady's portrait. While it isn't an uncommon fact that the vocal portrait guards the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room, getting past the Fat Lady without the correct password is no easy feat. Her passion for tip-top security is just as great as her love for good food and drink.

Though the Fat Lady is very particular about who she allows to pass through the portrait hole, she really doesn't mind anyone hanging around in the corridor. At every opportune moment, she will insist that you stop to listen to her "amazing" singing voice or engage in very loud conversation about the latest gossip. Even the Gryffindors themselves have to put up with the antics of this loud and flamboyant woman -- sometimes she won't even let them inside their common room until she is satisfied with their response to her singing or finds the gossip juicy enough to go share with her friend Violet.

OOC: Please do not role-play for the Fat Lady.

Tell Them I'm Trapped in an Oil Painting

The Lady had been spending ALL MORNING perfecting her hair as the students ran to and fro from one class to the next. This was all fine and dandy as she needed some me-time. But now she was bored. No one had stopped by her portrait for HOURS. She had no gossip to tell Violet. She hadn't even had the chance to show off her amazing voice yet this term.

HMPH. This woman knew exactly how to solve that problem.

After clearing her throat and humming a little to prepare her vocal chords, the Lady took in a deeeeeeeeeeeeep breath and her voice echoed throughout the corridors. To her, her voice was like that of an angel. To you, her voice was like nails to a chalkboard. You're welcome.

"HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, CHILDREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!"

It had already been a long day but to hear that very dreaded noise made Vi's shoulders slump a little bit. She needed a spa day or a massage or something in general.... A distraction perhaps?

And the shrill noise continued. Vi felt the tiny hairs on her arm stand up and she shivered. She wanted to cover her ears but thought that would be too rude, considering that the Fat Lady was the gatekeeper to the Gryffindor common room. She wished that she had brought some headphones or something to block out the noise. She couldn't help but wince as she approached the entrance to her house's beloved common room. "Hello! Sounds like you're in a good mood. How are you?" she asked politely.

When all of the breath in her painted lungs finally left her body, the Lady very dramatically gasped for air. How long had she been holding that note for? She certainly had beat her previous record, had she not? Of course, she wouldn't be able to say. She was so in the moment that she wasn't thinking about the seconds that had gone by. All that mattered to her was gracing the school with her marvelous voice. But, alas! A student! Even better, one of her Gryffindors!

"Hello, dearie!" the Lady said to Olivia, reaching her arms outward as if she wanted to hug the girl. There was a split moment of embarrassment, remembering that she was just a simple portrait and confined to a frame. She quickly shrugged that feeling away with a giggle.

There was a brief moment of hesitation. The Lady thought about asking the girl how her day was going to be polite, but she had more important matters to discuss. "Did you hear my singing? How was it? Glorious? Like a choir of angels?" she asked with a wide grin.

Vi smiled at the Lady seeing that she had tried to embrace her which was physically impossible because the Lady was stuck in a portrait. She smiled kindly at the Lady. Yes, Vi had heard her singing indeed.

"I have did hear it!" Oh yes, she had heard the singing all the way from the fourth floor. Funny how sound travelled. "I heard it from the Library. It was filled with plenty of emotion." Which was true. She could feel the emotion displayed through the Lady's voice. It did have a lot of emotion in it. Though the singing.... Er... It wasn't amazing nor was it horrible exactly. She had been sort of impressed. The singing had made the tiny hairs on Vi's forearms stand up.

Vi smiled. "What's prompted you to sing today? Any particular reason or just.. because?" she asked, wondering if something wonderful had happened for the or to the lady.

The Lady loudly and quickly clapped her hands together, obviously excited that the sweetie Olivia Holden had heard her voice all the way from the library. Her checks even began to blush a little when those kind, kind words came out of the girl's mouth.

"Oh, please. You're too kind," she properly said, when in reality she was BASKING in the spotlight. Of course her singing was full of emotion. She was a very emotional woman after all. "And what else?" Keep them compliments coming! Don't stop now! It wasn't every day the Fat Lady was the recipient of such praise.

The portrait couldn't help but laugh at Olivia's question. "Oh, dearie, I don't need anything to prompt me to sing. I just sing because I need to." Surely she would understand. That is what happened when you had such a great passion for something. "Would you like to hear another? A proper one this time?" Because the girl obviously wasn't in a rush to get into the common room. Noooooope!
