From their discussion after the last Muggle Studies lesson, Kay had asked Ronan to bring with him at least one item that he was very fond of. Kay stood patiently in her office with her four year old crup, Marshmallow who was resting with her head on her front paws. “He should be here soon, Marshy,’’ she absently said though her right foot impatiently tapped the floor.

Kay had not forgotten to inform Ronan about the time for his detention: the Saturday after that particular Muggle Studies lesson at 2 PM, to which it was approaching. Dressed warmly because of the cold, the woman continued to wait. Surely Ronan would not be careless to forget the time. Her gaze was fixated on the waiting room since the door to her office was wide open.

Honestly, he had considered skipping this particular detention. Not out of disrespect, but out of distrust. Especially since Professor Stewart had told him to bring something he was fond of with him. But, his curiosity had gotten the best of him and here he was. A few minutes late, of course, but still here. As for what he'd brought him, there was a small roll of muggle money in his pocket. He didn't care if that made the professor think he was shallow or whatever, he just was VERY distrusting of her at the moment. For the record, if he did trust her, he would've brought a picture of his family.

Anyway, he approached the opened and knocked softly, nose wrinkling at the sight of the crup. Bleh. Ronan hated them and their muggle counterparts with their barking at nothing and jumping on people's legs. How could anyone stand them?

Ronan arrived just a few minutes late. When she heard the knock on the door, there was no doubt it was him. She let him in, that usual smile still absent. "So nice of you to join us, Mr Carter. Come on in.'' Kay held the door open. "This here is Marshmallow,'' she added by way of introducing her crup. Most of the kiddos knew said crup since it usually stayed in the barn wit the others.

"Did you bring the item or items I asked for? I assure you, if you're successful with the detention, you'll have it back.'' Marshmallow, having now gotten to her feet and watching Ronan intently, barked in agreement. "May I have what you brought?''

If Ronan had been feeling more sympathetic towards the professor, he would've been curious about her lack of smile. As it was now though, he really couldn't muster up anything other than distrustful indifference. And irritation with her crup, because as typical with those creatures, it was barking at nothing.

Successful? Now that was an interesting choice of words. Successful at what? Not losing his temper again? That couldn't be promised.

"Here," he replied simply, pulling out the roll of cash and holding it out to Professor Stewart. Not a bribe, by the way.

Kay was momentarily surprised by what was being held out to her. Money? It was the last thing she expected though to be fair, she hadn't set her mind on any particular object. She took it without further thought. "Marshmallow here can be very possessive when she wants to be,'' the woman told Ronan. "Here, Marshy.'' The crup looked up at its owner, forked tail wagging. "I need you to guard this.'' Marshmallow trotted closer, as though understanding each word. She took the roll between her teeth then settled down again with her chin on her paws.

Kay straightened up. "Now Mr Carter, I'm sure you'll disagree with someone or something having your possession and not wanting to give it up. But you don't need to get rude or disrespectful to get it back or persuading them about your difference of opinion. This is your task. Get your money back from Marshmallow. Be warned she can be stubborn as well. Go ahead. There will be no need to use magic.''

Professor Stewart was surprised? Good.

It seemed that his distrust was well founded as he watched her give the money to her crup. This was why he was glad he'd brought what he'd chosen to bring. Also, the fact that he didn't need to be rude or disrespectful wasn't news to him (he was in the debate club, after all). He'd simply lost his temper during class. Happened to the best of them.

"She can have it," Ronan replied with a smirk. Yep, he'd outsmarted Professor Stewart, or at least he thought he had.

Kay might have been surprised that time around but not this time. That little voice in her head told her that there was a chance that Ronan would refuse to participate in the detention. "Mr Carter,'' she said, her tone not raising. "We can all stay here for the entirety of the afternoon or you can begin your assigned task. My schedule is clear. The choice is yours.''

To show that she meant exactly what she said, the professor took up a seat on her chair behind her desk. Now she waited for Ronan's decision.

Her schedule was clear? Well, so was his, but that didn't mean he wanted to spend his time in the presence of the professor and her crup. But, he really didn't want to have to interact with the creature either. Again, he wasn't fond of crups. At all. Basically, it was a catch twenty-two situation.

After about five minutes, Ronan sent a glare in the professor's direction and crouched, holding out his hand towards the crup. "Come on, bring that here, Marshmallow," he began, with that baby-talk style voice he'd heard people use with their pets. For the record, he felt like dying right now, he was so embarrassed. Seriously, how could people stand doing this?

Kay could be quite patient. Possibly that was one of the reasons she garnered a Hatstall at her Sorting. In all the time she waited for the detention to get started, her gaze moved from Marshmallow to Ronan. Any minute now, Mr Carter. It was obvious the crup didn't mind for she was guarding the cash still. Though he eyes were closed as though she had fallen asleep.

The woman did not miss the glare but she disregarded it. She was more interested in Ronan's approach to the detention. The crup opened her eyes to merely look up at the Gryffindor. A command? Marshmallow Stewart did not obey commands like that. What she did was yawn, her little mouth opening wide before she settled her chin on the money. It seemed she was getting somewhat bored.

He let out a low growl as the crup simply yawned at him. This detention was quickly angering the Gryffindor again. Though, perhaps that was the professor's intention. Well, he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction.

Taking a deep breath, in and out, to calm himself beforehand, he reached under the crup's chin and pulled the cash out. Ha! Success! Ronan looked at the professor again with a raised eyebrow. Could he leave now?

Did Ronan have anger issues? The thought interested Kay and she made a mental note to speak to Gaston about the possibility of this. In truth, she wasn't surprised when he simply marched up to Marshmallow and pulled away the cast. She got to her feet and called her crup to her. "Snatching the cash away isn't respectful which has made this detention unsuccessful. However, I will not force you to change your behaviour. I can see that you'll have to learn that out in the world on your own.'' Shame, really. Ronan could have simply approached Marshmallow in a friendly manner, pet her and ask for the cash. The crup would have given it up but it seemed the Gryffindor had too much pride to even do that.

"I'll be speaking to your Head of House about your behaviour. Just remember my words to be respectful to everyone even though you may not agree with them. You are dismissed.'' Kay knelt to scratch Marshmallow behind the ears.

It wasn't Gryffindor pride that kept Ronan from petting the crup, but straight up dislike of crups in general. What was with the professors at this school thinking that everyone just had to like creatures? "No offense, Professor Stewart, but it's a crup. Also, my body language should've alerted you to the fact that I don't like them at all. And I can be respectful to people who have earned it. Which, between your last lesson, this detention and what you just said, you've completely lost mine," he commented in a flat, even tone before pocketing his cash and walking off.

And now he really a shower and some cookies. The shower to get the crup off him and the cookies as treat.

"You have to be respectful to those you dislike as well. And I'm sorry to hear that,'' Kay said calmly. Kids these days... did they not realise that? As for him loosing respect for her, it saddened her but what could she do? This was one of those rare occasions when she disappointed her kiddos. What would she do?

Try to win back that respect.

She watched at Ronan left before straightening with a sigh. "Come on, Marshmallow. Let's go find Coco so you can have a play date.'' Maybe Rose wouldn't mind Kay keeping her company too.
