credit: hermionesclone After following the sloping, earthy passage to the Hufflepuff Common Room, you'll find yourself in a large circular space. The room is cozy, low-ceilinged, and filled with natural sunlight streaming in from the circular windows that are level with the ground outside the castle. If you peer out, you'll have an amazing view of the grass, flowers, and perhaps even people lounging around.
The room is decorated in the Hufflepuff house colors, filled with beautifully polished wooden furniture, and the comfortably worn sofa and chairs sitting in front of the fire place for those looking to relax. The portrait of Helga Hufflepuff has been hung with care above the wooden mantelpiece and she looks out over the common room, holding her golden cup up in a toast.
For your seven years here at Hogwarts this will be your home and there's no better place to get to know your second family than right here.

So this was it, the Hufflepuff common room. Skyler was thrilled to be sorted to the badgers! She felt like this was her true home, where she actually belonged and she was loving it. She was still in shock and awe about being accepted at Hogwarts, but she was determined to make the best of it!
So setting her self down in a comfy arm chair she pulled out one of her school books and began to study, you could never be too prepared for these things you know!

This was going to be the best year!!
Or so, that was going to be Lucy's mindset until the year proved otherwise. She was free from the stress of OWLs, not yet stressed about NEWTs, had her instruments back! and was excited about her career path! and was taking four less classes!!
And still had the best girlfriend!! Even if no one knew about it.
This was going to be the best year!!
Lucy curled into a comfy chair, pulled out her new journal, and began jotting down all the ideas she had for her future.

It smelled.... so wonderful in here. Not dusty and dirty like she had imagined the entire castle would smell. But it was... warm and comfortable and cosy, the last thing that Posey had ever thought she'd feel in such a foreign place. But still.... this wasn't where she wanted to be. Not even close. Her brother wasn't here, Dougie wasn't here and all of that still plagued her young mind.
Thankfully, though, her mum had packed plenty of snacks and sweets for Posey to share but that wasn't her plan at all. More sweets for Posey, no sweets for anyone el......
Oh.

Miranda walked into the common room and flopped down into her favourite over stuffed chair and dropped her school bag on the floor at her feet. She was exhausted.. She'd forgotten all the walking and climbing of stairs at school while at home... She was seriously out of shape... Maybe she could go running with Henry and Remy... She'd need to ask them... Hopefully she'd bump into them at some point... And if she had a chance it was to park her bum right where she had and wait...

Looking up from his advanced magical creature book, he peered around the side of his chair noticing one of his housemates. "Hey, Miranda," he called over cheerfully with a smile. "Long day?" She looked awfully tired, not that he'd ever say, but it did take some time to get back into the swing of things.

Henry gave Miranda a somewhat surprised look before he laughed a bit. "Wow... and I thought I was an early bird." In that case, he was kind of surprised that he had never run into her in the morning when most people were still asleep. But he supposed if that was the only time he could talk to Charlotte, he'd make sure he'd get up that early too. So he understood.
"Alright, we'll see you bright and early at six then. There's usually a few of us, but anyone that wants to is welcome." And the faces changed sometimes.. sometimes he even went alone, but he did his best to run every morning and welcome anyone that wanted to join.

Pips had been working very hard in the kitchen, yes he had, and he had a brand new recipe for the studentsies to try. But he couldn't wait until dinner to see what they thought of it, that was far too long away! So instead he ventured into the Common Room of his nearest taste-testers, a small *pop* announcing his arrival. Probably much more obvious, however, was the scent of the tart he was wafting around.
"Pips has treacle tart, if the misters and mistresses of Hufflepuff want to try?" He looked at them with wide hopeful eyes. "Freshly, Pips did make it. Pips wants to make bestest pie for dessertsies tonight."

It took Simon much longer for him to return to the Common Room than he had hoped. Such was the plight of someone as Unhealthy as he is having to come down from the Astronomy Tower to here. Swear to Potter he will learn a Bubble Head Charm and fill it up full of all the Proper things he needs to help him breath rather than just taking a quick puff from his inhaler.
That might cause a Nickname like Bubble-Boy.
Nah Simon wanted to just be Simon, or Si, or Mord, or ooooh oh oh! THE ROCK! That would be a Cool one.
The 3rd year Badger flopped down on the Couch near the Fire and relaxed. No getting up for him anytime soon.

Derf was coming back from the library with a few books tucked under his arm - mostly a few on magical languages but also a copy of Achievements in Charming just for something to break up the language studying - and slipped through the door to the common room. No mud today, which would be a nice change for his friend now flopped on the couch.
"Hi Simon!" the third year chirped as he walked over to him, EVER so pleased that he could now say his friend's name without a stutter. Although he did miss the specialness that came with him being basically the only person who called him Mord. But it was nice to call people by their proper names, you know? "Whatcha doing?" he asked, flopping down on the ground in front of the sofa so as not to disturb his friend's comfortable floppage.

"Can you still call me Mord?" he asked his Dorm mate bluntly. "I liked it." Simon was impressed and happy that Derfael made headway with his stutter but there was just something special about that nick name. "Or...um Maybe you could call me The Rock?" he blushed and looked down at his lap and twiddled his thumbs.

"What were you doing up there?" he asked, leaning his head back against the cushion so he could look up at his friend more easily. Although this also sorta made it easier for him to look UP Simon's nose too, not that Derf was acutely thinking about that or anything.
Kicking his shoes off and setting them towards one of the legs of the couch, the Hufflepuff gave his toes a little wiggle. "Oh, sure," he nodded. He had no problem switching back to Mord if that was what his dormmate wanted. It had been a compromise between the two of them since Derf had struggled with Simon's name initially anyway. "....The Rock? Why the rock?"
And why was Simon Mord blushing so much? It almost felt like being around Natalie. Or Abey.
"Oh. YEAH! Actually," he nodded. "Dora has been tutoring me in Mermish cause she is fluent and stuff...and I'm WAY beyond what Ms. Brooks is teaching us now...so I kinda get bored in class...also have a Gobbledegook assignment from the Headmistress I wanna work on...and some Troglodytarum too."

Kicking his shoes off and setting them towards one of the legs of the couch, the Hufflepuff gave his toes a little wiggle. "Oh, sure," he nodded. He had no problem switching back to Mord if that was what his dormmate wanted. It had been a compromise between the two of them since Derf had struggled with Simon's name initially anyway. "....The Rock? Why the rock?"
And why was Simon Mord blushing so much? It almost felt like being around Natalie. Or Abey.
"Oh. YEAH! Actually," he nodded. "Dora has been tutoring me in Mermish cause she is fluent and stuff...and I'm WAY beyond what Ms. Brooks is teaching us now...so I kinda get bored in class...also have a Gobbledegook assignment from the Headmistress I wanna work on...and some Troglodytarum too."
Was there something up his Nose? Probably Snot. Simon wiped it with a handkerchief neatly tucked in his his front jacket pocket then tucked it back in. "Getting make-up work" The third year grumbled. I was too late for class and didn't want to get in trouble so I got work to do later. Not wanting to admit he just got tired and didn't want to trek the steps up to the Astronomy Tower the first time.
He smiled down at Derfael as his Friend agreed to stick with Mord and smiled some more as he questioned why he wanted to be called 'The Rock' "Because That's a Cool Nickname, and I want to be cool. Like you." Derfael was Cool. So being cool was on the list of things Simon wanted to try and be like. "It's like I took the efeller out of my Last name and The Rock. Makes me sound Tough too." Nobody would see him as weak and feeble with a name like that.
"Can I hear some of them?" He asked Genuinely curious about what Trogdorlorium sounded like. Is that what he said Trogdor...Trogdor...Trogdorlororolium? | |

Derf shifted a little so his side was leaning against the couch and he could prop his arm up on one of the cushions. You know, more like having a proper conversation rather than accidentally looking up his friend's nose. "You need help?" Like...note sharing and stuff? Jessa and her methodical note taking had sorta rubbed off on him over the years. Although his notes were still pretty selective.
"Cool? Me?" The third year's eyes widened and he blinked at Simon Mord several times. "I've...never had anyone say I was COOL before..." he trailed off, ruffling his hair considerably with one hand. He had been called plenty of things, but cool had not been one of them. Especially not this year. "Mum told me one of the professors who used to work here had a pet rock." An unnecessary nugget of information but there it was. But this all begged the question... "Why do you want people thinking you're tough?" Although, when he got to thinking about it, wasn't that answer kinda obvious? "Did...something happened?" he followed up with, tone somewhat protective.
"Oh...um...sure," he grinned. "I just gotta get into the troll mindset first...give me a second." And then the now barefoot Hufflepuff (shoes had been unceremoniously kicked off a little bit ago) was up on his feet, shoulders hunched and bent over slightly as if about to pick up something off the ground.
