Default Office of Healer River Reed

Beyond the smaller antechamber is Healer Reed’s office. If you were lucky enough to tour all the parts of the Hospital Wing, you would notice that his office is perhaps the cosiest. All of his furniture are in deep brown including his floor, which is adorned with a huge Brazilian Aztec rug he got as a parting gift from Castelobruxo. As you open the door to his office, you will be welcomed by the scent of peppermint, and beyond is his handsome desk filled with medical records, and other paper work. You would notice that he doesn’t have any visitor’s chair to sit on.

Just a few steps away from his table, is a medium sized work station filled with glass beakers, cylinders, volumetric flasks suspended in stands, flexible tubes, a muggle microscope, petri dishes, and perhaps plant samples in between glass slides. Underneath are huge amber bottles where a good amount of healing potions are stored. This area has a protective barrier as well so no one can contaminate his experiments.

On your right is a cosy fireplace, matched with two overstuffed armchairs. In between is a modest coffee table where a tea tray is placed, and a complete tea set for tea time. Most likely, this is where Healer Reed will invite you to sit down to have a chat, and then some. Just beside the fireplace is another door that will lead to Healer Reed’s dormitory. This room is kept locked, and protective charms are placed on the door.

If you are looking for Roscoe and Bumi, his Newfoundland rescue dogs can be seen on the left side of his office where Healer Reed has set up a cosy place for them to relax, sleep, or interact with their visitors. The area is stuffed with cushions big enough for them to lay on, and then a few are thrown in for their visitors. The two are drool offenders, so be prepared for a messy greeting. On this side, you will also see another door. This access is directly linked to the main hospital ward so that Healer Reed has quick access to his patients. Beside this door is a full wall of tea canisters, this is where Healer Reed keeps his precious tea collection.

OOC: Please do not post your characters in here, unless Healer Reed instructed you to do so. He may entertain ill patients here, if he deems it necessary. Otherwise, all injured/ill patients should utilise the Patient’s Check-In Area.

His eyes landed on Skylar’s right arm and instinctively reached out to get a hold of it to take a peek under her sleeve. “It’s a burn alright,” he started as he gently let go of her and grinned down at the student, “And I sense that you have high tolerance to pain. Which is a good thing but,” River paused and started to walk towards his office door, “You seem to have hesitated to take this visit. Your wound told me so.” The Healer tilted his head to the side, wondering if it was Slytherin pride talking? Maybe.

“The ward is fully occupied at the moment, Miss Diggory. I’ll clean your wounds up in my office. Come along now.” River gestured his head towards his office door, and made a beeline for his medical supplies.

OOC: You can now post in the office!
The healer seemed taken aback by her reference to him as Mister Reed and Skylar had to wonder if there was something else she should have called him. He wasn't her professor and even she knew it was not proper to address him by his first name unless he gave permission to do so. When he touched her arm though, she immediately felt the warmth of it, despite the burn and returned his grin. High tolerance to pain, yes. And wait, WHAT?! He could sense her wounds? BUT it was the final comment that she just felt her heart skip a beat, as he led the way towards his office because 'all the wards were occupied'. Was that an excuse? She didn't know, but she was not going to deny herself the small quarters that an office provided to get to know the healer better.

Nodding her head, she tugged her sleeve back down over her burned arm and followed the young wizard towards the office. Pausing and hesitating a moment as she lingered near the chair, she smiled at sight of how cozy this room appeared and couldn't help but feel blessed and honored that she got to get healed in his office. "Did they teach you how to listen to wounds in healer school?" She knew a couple healer's, Hattie's mother. Chloe's mother. But honestly, she'd never felt compelled to ask them about their training and sort of took them for granted as healers.

While Miss Diggory showed herself around, River went through his supplies and tools for the Slytherin. Her injury was a minor one, but an important case nonetheless. To him, every one that comes to seek his medical help are nothing less of an emergency. All of their cases are equally important to him, which explains why he considered staying behind during Hogsmeade visits.

After gathering all the materials he needed in his medical tray, River paused to consider Miss Diggory's question. He grinned at first, and then chuckled. "Well, you can put it that way." he started as he placed the tray on the coffee table, and gestured Skylar to sit in one of the armchairs. "Not that wounds can talk, but it can tell us a story by observing it." River reached out to her injured arm and rolled up her sleeve once more to reveal her damaged skin. "I suspect the burn came from airborne ember?" Was she too near a fireplace when it happened?

"Would you like to tell me what happened to you then?" River asked as he went to clean her wounds with a clean gauze, and a puss-colored disinfectant.

Taking a seat in the armchair once the Healer gestured for her to have a seat so he could fix her burns up, she listened intently as he explained how he was able to observe the story of wounds. Airborne ember? Uh, no, not exactly.... She made a face at the disinfectant in his arsenal, but knew it was for her own good despite the fact that it looked disgusting.

"Herbology. Picking fire seeds." It wasn't anything terribly glorious and it was part of a class, so yea. Who knew she'd burn herself in Herbology class though? Potions would have been more likely. But hey, she got an up close look at the new healer as a result, so it wasn't too horrible of an injury. "So how long you been a healer?" Was he a fresh graduate last year and Hogwarts wanted someone more experienced which is why they had a temp? Also, it might give Sky a clue as to just how old he was, which was important details.

River was busy applying the disinfectant with a sterile wooden tongue depressor against Skylar's burned skin when the Slytherin supplied him with the correct cause of her wounds. Picking fire seeds. Fire seeds. The Healer tossed the applicator back on the tray and started to fill a bigger metal tray with Murtlap Essence, "So...did Professor Myers forget to supply you with protective gear, or was it you who forgot to wear one?" River kept a friendly grin on his face as he placed the filled tray beside the Slytherin, and lifted her injured arm, and slowly soaked it in the cold essence.

While Skylar's wounds healed, River stood up from where he sat and summoned his trusty kettle, filled it with water...and started to boil it in the fire from his fireplace. "I have been in the Healing business for...16 year now." he paused as he did a quick math in his head. "Why did you ask?" he turned and gave Skylar an amused grin. Was she interested in becoming a Healer someday?

Never did he feel inadequate as he read their past medical records, and mentally note down the things he could do for them. Their road to recovery was going to be a long one, but he was determined to help them even if their cases were not his specialty. A knock on his door brought him out of his thoughts, and just like clockwork, he began to stack away the sensitive records in his hand, and kept it in a locked drawer for now. He’d have to peruse those before his bedtime.

River stood up from his seat, opened his door and peeked around it. He was relieved to see a perfectly healthy young man outside of his office for a change. He thought he would never see this day, considering the many accidents Hogwarts had in store for its students. “Ah, Master Kenning. Good afternoon.” River took a moment to sift through his memory bank to put a name on this boy’s face. There were...three Kennings in school, yes? “Come on in, the water in the kettle is just about to ready for tea.” The Healer stepped aside, and opened his door wider for the Gryffindor.

OOC: Go ahead and a make a post in the office! ^^
By the time the man poked his head out of the office, Levi's face was already hidden behind one of the health magazines. It hadn't taken very long for his determination to shatter; one moment his fingers had been twitching and the other he'd been flicking through the pages for an article that piked his interest. Several did.

A little startled at the healer's appearance, Levi had smiled sheepishly and placed the magazine back where he'd found it in a somewhat reluctantly fashion. He was not certain what he'd been expecting but the boy was sure that a cozy ambiance and peppermint scented office he walked into wasn't it. He pushed up his spectacles, trying to inconspicuously look around the room without appearing too interested. This wasn't very easy, because he was. He rooted himself in one spot, not moving to occupy one of the cushions.

Those were a lot of flasks. And test tubes? "Is that a microscope?" Levi tried to mask his surprise and wonder. His success was of about thirty three percent. "What I mean is, sir," He continued, remembering whatever manners that had remained in his brain, "Thank you, I'd love some tea. What sort of tea were you thinking of, though?"

Aside from the noticeable look of relief on the Healer’s face, he too itched to ask the young man if he was interested in Healing. He’d seen him take interest in one of the medical journals lying around in his waiting area, and it was news to the man given that at least half of the school’s population never paid any attention to it.

As soon as the boy entered his office, River busied himself with the kettle that just boiled and lifted it off from the fire that was dancing merrily in his fireplace. The man walked over to his tea set to clean it when Levi asked him his first question. The Healer straightened up and glanced at his old trust muggle microscope. “It is, yes. Quite the old model, however.” As much as River wanted to get a digital one, he couldn’t, considering that he’d be working in an environment that doesn’t have any access to electricity. He then walked towards the boy, and gestured towards his wall of tea canisters, “I like fusing two different teas for a change. I’m thinking of mixing Gyokuro Green Tea from Japan...and Mutan White Tea from China.” River glanced down at the Gryffindor, and gestured his head towards the wall of canisters. “Do you have a preference?” the Healer was considerate enough not to push his own choice when he’s entertaining a guest. That has been his practice ever since.

He had some (several) questions about the nature of the microscope, but he filed them for later. That the healer had chosen to use an actual fireplace for boiling purposes instead of magic struck him as interesting. His muggle paternal grandparents had once told him they felt that from their limited experience with the magical community, wizards seemed to rely a whole lot on magic instead of their own hands. Levi was pretty sure this came from a place of fear and prejudice--both of which were much of the same, really--but he was also inclined to agree. "That sounds really fancy, sir" He said, unable to help himself. Levi moved to look at the canister. "I've only ever had chamomile, chai and cinnamon tea, that I remember." He turned back to the healer, expression thoughtful as though discussing tea was a matter of great importance. "Well, chai smelled good. Like drinking vanilla cake, if that makes sense, but without any of the sugar that can make your teeth fall off."

Levi had never had a tea that was the blend of two, however. And tea, he knew, originally came from Asia, before the West had chosen to appropriate it all those centuries ago. He'd learned this from a history book he'd read about imperialism, over the summer. Or was it colonialism? The difference was a little blurry for him, sometimes. Muggle history was a lot, quite the same as Wizard history was a lot. But his point was that surely the blend of Japanese and Chinese tea was a good one. Hopefully. "Your tea sounds interesting, though. I'll take it." Mostly because he was willing to try pretty much everything at least once. Levi liked to experience things firsthand before passing judgement.

River would like to believe that the young man was not a fan of sugar, but his choices of tea required sweeteners. Well, not as sweet and rich as cake that is. "It is fancy, considering that tea is a form of art. Much like our French brethren with their food." Those folks would start fancy dinners at six in the evening, and end their meals at approximately two hours before midnight. It isn't really for people who are constantly hungry. It would prove frustrating for them in so many ways. "Ah, Indian teas are one of the strongest teas out there." he said pointing to a canister on his wall. "I'm a fan of the Assam variant. The Darjeeling ones are too strong for my taste though." he said tucking his hands behind him once more and wondered if he could fuse something interesting with his Assam leaves next time.

"If that's the case, then let me properly introduce you to one of my favourite infusions." River got his wand out and summoned two canisters from his wall, and gracefully placed it on the coffee table near them. "Japanese green teas and Chinese white teas are both delicate, so it has to be steeped in water that isn't too hot. If the temperature is too high, and steeped longer than three minutes then it would taste bitter. We don't want that now, do we?" the Healer didn't mind giving the boy information, considering that not a lot are into tea-making. To him, tea is sacred-- all thanks to a former patron of his while doing freelance work. He even earned the title 'Uncle Iroh' by his youngest nephew because of it.

River gestured the boy to take a seat in one of the armchairs, as he busied himself preparing their tea. "So, Master Kenning, to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?" the Healer glanced at the boy, a grin plastered on his face.

He’d unconsciously been moving closer to the canister, which only came to his attention when two of them flew out, clearly summoned by the professor. Levi took a step back to look at the man, then headed to occupy one of the armchairs. “I didn’t know tea could be so complex. Sounds sort of like a science.” Or potion making, which he supposed qualified as science, too. The chair was comfortable and he felt compelled to wiggle in a little deeper, but refrained. That would be maybe considered a strange thing to do in front of people. Or an adult person. Same difference.

“Well,” Levi did not want to sound like he was hesitating or like he was nervous, but sometimes such things could not be helped. He cleared his throat. “OWLs coming up and all that, my understanding is that I need to worry about the future.” The future being only two years away and some change, apparently. “I like reading, healer Reed.” He smiled, a little nervously. “No, I love reading. I love reading about people and what makes them--people, I s’ppose.” Levi didn’t think he’d ever quite tried to articulate that, and it sounded strange, to his own ears. Maybe even a little embarrassing, too. “From the inside out.” Cells making way for tissues connecting until organs were formed; emotions and their ability to affect decisions and even neuron patterns. “I guess my question is, what exactly does it take to get accepted into the healing program?”

"It is art, and science my friend." the Healer grinned at the student as he took the other armchair and made himself comfortable by leaning back, crossing his legs in the process as he waited for their tea to steep properly. Thinking about it, it did seem like brewing a potion considering that one must be familiar with the more complex properties of the ingredient. No wonder he enjoyed the subject...and Herbology. The endless discovery and possibilities always piqued his Ravenclaw brain.

River sat up straighter in his armchair and interlaced his fingers on top of his belly, as he listened to Levi's reason for his visit. First of all, the man was surprised that the boy did not end up in Ravenclaw. Oh, the books that he can read in their personal library. Some were not even available in the school library! Well, too bad it is an old house secret, so there was no way he'd tell the young lad. The next words made him nod, totally understanding what Levi meant. He was talking not just about the human anatomy, but the psyche that moves it. It was a complex topic, but a very interesting one. "Do well in your OWLs and especially in your NEWTs, and explore simple internships during the summer." Time management was also key. "All of your subjects are important, but it's time that you concentrate in Potions, Herbology, Charms, Creatures, Defense, and Transfiguration. It's a lot to study, but that's because we are dealing with saving lives here, and one ought to master these subjects to correctly diagnose a patient...or what to do on a patient in emergency situations." River paused as he reached out to his china pot and took a peek at the leaves steeping inside, and wafted the scent in his direction. "I mentioned earlier to explore internship programs. Although St. Mungo's will not allow Hogwarts-aged students like you to intern for them over the holidays, there are apothecaries that would very much like your help. Through it, you get to learn all about Potion ingredients, even beefing up your knowledge in Herbology." River continued as he prepared their cups, putting the strainer on each vessel, and poured out the golden substance in it. In an instant, the room was filled with the soothing scent of light orchid. "Or perhaps, if the situation permits, and if you get the grades that you need, I can shadow you during your sixth year while I have a patient in here." he continued, offering Levi his cup.

Levi was taking so many mental notes he wasn’t sure he’d have any space left. He wished he’d brought his journal with him, or that he at least had some ink to write on the palm of his hands. Not because retelling the details of this conversation later to Declan and Althea would be difficult but because it was, actually, a little overwhelming. Writing things down had always helped him focus and put things into perspective.

He accepted the cup of tea, thankful for something to do with his hands, which had been pulling idly at the fabric of the couch. The gold colored liquid was appealing though no more that the scent that now hung in the room, mixing with the original peppermint one that had welcomed him in. “That smells… I don’t know what it smells like, but it’s really good.” An understatement. It also made him feel slightly less--well, scattered. He took a small sip of the tea, then took another. It was not a taste Levi was used to, but it was interesting. A little malty and something else he couldn’t identify. “I think maybe Defense Against the Dark Arts will give me the most trouble if any dueling is involved.” He said, quite plainly, though with a small frown. “I was thinking of dropping it, actually, but if it can’t be helped--” Levi set his cup down on the coffee table, “--I’ll just drop Astronomy, Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Divination and Arithmancy.” The boy had to admit he’d miss History of Magic.

“I mean, if it happens--” And he did not want to sound nor look too excited at the mere possibility of Healer Reed allowing him to shadow him next year, so he picked up the tea again to focus his attention elsewhere, a little bit, “--that would be really, really cool.” Levi had kept his dark eyes rained on the remaining tea. He took a sip. “Do you know of any particular apothecaries I can apply for a summer internship?” He supposed he’d have to speak to his dad about no longer being able to bus tables at the family restaurant during the summer. Or he could also just not show up. That was possible, too.

"The smell reminds me of the meadow in spring. It's refreshing to me...and very relaxing, but not enough to induce sleep." River said as he got his own cup, wafted the steam to his face and inhaled the scent. Perhaps, if his job wasn't this stressful he wouldn't be able to appreciate the simple things in life such as tea. He was very grateful for it, on account of allowing him to breathe in between curing people and counselling students. Levi has no idea what he had gone through the past months. He was, however, coping nicely.

"Oh?" River grinned at the boy as he rested his arms on the armrest, and held the saucer in his left hand, and his teacup in the other. "You must continue with your Defense class, young man. You see, it's quite easy to put the subject on the back burner, believing that you will have no use for it once you become a licensed Healer. However, in Healing, you have to deal with Jinxes, and Curses...all of which falls under Defense Against the Dark Arts. How would you be able to counter the curses if your knowledge in DADA is limited? Remember that not all cursed patients are confined to their beds. Some are very active on their feet, at the same time, in need of Healing." the man brought his cup to his lips once more and took another sip of his tea, amused with Levi's choices. "Are you sure about dropping History of Magic? The amount of research work it will demand from you will benefit you greatly once you're in the profession." he continued gesturing to his very messy desk. "It is important for Healers to be good at it." River tilted his head to the side, wondering if the boy would agree.

The Healer placed his teacup on its saucer and helped himself to another cup. While he poured the golden liquid into his vessel, River let out a chuckle and shook his head. "That is your first mistake, Master Kenning. Self-doubt," he said placing the teapot back on the tray and leaned back in his armchair once more. "Have faith in yourself. You will make it." River's lips found the rim of his teacup once more and took a few sips before continuing. "There is a lot of them in Diagon Alley. There is the Diagon Dispensary, Slug and Jiggers, and Mr Mulpepper's Apothecary. Well, during my time as a student, I would frequent Slug and Jiggers and volunteer for the shopkeeper. Perhaps you can do the same after your OWLs?"

It wasn't that he hadn't considered the possibility of dealing with people who had been jinxed or hexed, or worse, cursed; it was that Levi had rather been hoping such maladies would be able to be taken care of by Potions. "I've got decent wand work, I think, but to be honest with you, sir, if dueling is part of the practical portion of my examinations," Levi paused, scratching the tip of his nose, "I'll just have to use my surroundings. The idea of casting a jinx or a hex on anyone makes me feel, well--not great." He could be crafty. Creative. And he was fast on his feet, too. Not afraid to jump off high places, if needed. Most likely. He was a Gryffindor, after all. A fact that had been rather mind boggling during his first year, yes, but he'd come around to it sooner rather than later. People, Levi had learned, were not just one thing or another. Courage came in less traditional forms, too.

Although, he had to admit, he didn't feel very courageous at the moment. The path that interested him the most was considerably more daunting than he'd expected. Levi kept his dark gaze trained on what was left of the tea. He was pretty sure the second he went back to his dorm and removed his school robes, he'd see one of those stress rashes he got whenever he started to over-thinking every single detail of his life. This conversation was no exception. "I'd much rather keep History of Magic, believe me." He felt compelled to reach up for his tie and loosen it, but settled instead for taking a sip of his tea. "It probably sounds weird but it's, uh, stimulating. For me. But wouldn't it be preferable to focus all my time on subjects that'll get me into the program?"

In the end, Levi lowered his half empty cup, again, and loosened his tie some. He did not think about whether or not healer Reed would mind and by the time he did consider it, the deed was done and it was too late. "Well, you know what they say, teenagers and self doubt." Levi was trying to make light of it, and he succeeded by about fifty percent. Though Healer Reed was absolutely right, of course. "It's kind of a rite of passage, I'm sure." He supposed it was better than being moody. Though Levi had to admit even he had his moments. "I've seen Slugs and Jiggers, actually. I'll owl them to see if they're accepting interns for the summer."

It was really not a surprise when River learned that Levi would not counter a spell with a jinx or curse. He has a nephew who shared the same principle, in fact, he opted not to join the duelling club because he thought that it could get disastrous on so many levels, even if it was just practice. River had argued with him that it was the same with his Kendo training, but Jace was pretty stubborn about it. His Ravenclaw nephew would spew all sensible arguments with him, and River would just simply nod and accept his excuse. It was troublesome to be honest, considering that River highly valued the experience it would bring Jace. "You don't have to limit yourself with jinx and the like to strike back. True, you can use your environment for defence, but sometimes...the situation will call for it to ultimately stop your opponent." River grinned at the young man, and nodded his head. "Don't be afraid to explore it, though. It's best that you know a thing or two about jinxes and curses...learn what it can and can't do. It just might what you need to survive a situation." Because in reality, the real world is a bad place filled with bad people.

River kept his eyes on the boy as he took another sip of his tea, and got curious about his thoughts. He was an OWL student a long time ago, and he did stress out on the smallest details of his revisions. He remembered not having proper sleep for a whole term...not even remembering if he actually slept on his bed and not in a library chair, table, or floor. But if there was one thing he'd learned from his OWL and NEWT years, it was to keep track of his priorities. "My priorities may differ slightly from yours, but remember that my answers were based on my learnings from experiences when I was your age," he said putting his cup down, and clasped his hands in front of him, leaning forward. "I'd suggest that you make a list. What are the subjects you think you should ace, subjects that you think will give you a good support in your endeavour, and subjects you don't mind failing. From that list, make a timetable of how much time you should spend on each. You also have to consider your aptitude for these subjects. If you're average in...say, Transfiguration, then perhaps you should spend more time revising for that subject instead of say...Potions." River paused and grinned at the student. "Also, don't forget to take deep, calming breaths...and do short walks to clear your thoughts."

He took note of Levi's tie, but he didn't mind it. OWL year was hell year, and River perfectly understood the young man. "Just do your best in your exams and you will be fine, Master Kenning. Keep in mind that there should be no regrets in the end, no matter what the outcome is." River didn't want to be very optimistic about things because there are times when failures must happen, and it becomes a milestone of some sort. The Healer man wanted Levi to keep things real for himself and not obsess over OWLs like his life depended on it.

This wasn’t the first time Levi had heard this sort of argument, though it was certainly the first time he considered it seriously. “I’m pretty good at flinging things around. Levitating charms are so underrated in duels.” It was an attempt at making light of the situation, of course. Levi sighed. “Not that I’d know, of course.” He began to pull at his tie again. “Look, I can’t promise I’ll join the dueling club next term but I’ll ask my brother to practice hexes and jinxes with me.” The good news was that he had the wand work on his side and sort of the aim. All the tears he’d shed for those fencing and archery lessons his mother had signed him and his siblings up for were FINALLY gonna be worth something. Maybe.

Levi picked up his tea again and matter-of-factly said, “I can’t fail anything.” It was a pride thing. Also a parents thing. Failing was just not really part of anyone’s plan. “But I’m very good at lists. I like breaking down my day into blocks, sir.” This was possibly information the man did not care to know, but Levi was sharing anyway. “It makes things very easy. And it keeps me focused.” Levi grinned, animatedly, loving only few things more than discussing his organizational skills. “Classes, revision, leisure reading, revision, siblings break, revision, leisure reading, revision. Then eating and some power naps in between.”

He drank what was left of his tea, placing the cup and its saucer back on the table. “Well, I couldn’t take it if I didn’t make it to the program,” Levi said, very honest, feeling the tips of his ears redden. His smile became a little bashful as he reached up to adjust his tie, “I won’t take more of your time, Healer Reed. But, uh, did you mean what you say about letting me shadow you, if the situation permits it and if my grades are good enough?”

In all honesty, levitating charms are dead useful, however, it could be a weak retaliation if one's opponent is much stronger in his duelling skills. But then again, who was he to question Levi's style? To each his own, they say. River let out a chuckle and shake of his head, "I am not forcing you to join the club, Master Kenning. Perhaps it's something that you might want to think about over time." he said giving the boy an amused look. "There's nothing wrong practising with your brother, in all seriousness, but...don't you think you'd be too familiar with Declan's style? Perhaps, your brother...or sister has friends who'd be willing to practice with you?" It was another suggestion, of which, Levi was more than welcome to ignore.

River sat back as he listened to Levi, nodding along in agreement. "You sound just like me when I was your age. I had my schedule and revision materials plastered around my bed curtains. It's the first thing I'd see and read in the morning, and the last when I go to sleep." the Healer man smiled at the memory, "Maybe you can do the same." So he won't fall behind schedule?

The man nodded and finished his tea, and he too set his teacup and saucer back on the table. Oh, going already? "Well, I don't want to take more of your time away from revising, Master Kenning." he started as he leaned on his knees, a surprised look on his face. "I am very serious about that matter, Master Kenning. I could use another set of hands in here." And as a rising sixth year, what better way to spend one's free time than doing hands-on stuff towards a career in Healing, right?

Wowza!

Levi leaned forward, one hand still pulling at his tie and the other on his knees. He wished he could explain more eloquently why he struggled with the dueling aspect of defense. Levi knew it was important. If anything because something dangerous was always happening at Hogwarts and Declan wasn't going to be around forever to take care of him and Althea. "I promise I'll try my best," He said very honestly. "I might even pay Professor Hirsch a visit about this. I can't afford to make mistakes that could have been avoided on the first place."

He was only going to do it because he'd decided that he liked Healer Reed. There was something very comforting about being taken completely seriously by a proper adult, especially one as busy as the man probably was. He especially found it flattering when the guy admitted to having things in common with him. Well, having HAD things in common back when the healer was young. Levi wanted to go one of his verbal diarrhea episodes right then, but he could be cool, calm and collected. Like Declan. Or he could try, so mostly he ended up nodding along enthusiastically and beaming quite openly.

Small victories and silver linings were important. He stood up, and after a moment of hesitation, offered his hand to healer Reed for a shake. "Thanks, that...means a lot, sir. I'll do my best not to disappoint the two of us." He pushed his reading glasses up, a little bit, with his free hand. The smile he sported was only a little bit bashful. "And if you don't mind, it would be great if you could just call me Levi. Everyone does." Those who knew his name, anyway. "Master Kenning is my dad."

So the idea convinced him? Good. It seemed that his Ravenclaw brain still served him good, directing brilliant students to be a better version of themselves. It seemed that Levi already got things under control just by deciding to pay Roderick a visit. Besides, that man needed all the distraction he could get...given his most recent...unfortunate incident. "I am sure that Professor Hirsch will not fail you. Perhaps you could also give him a bit of background as to why you're asking for his help so he can customise your practice?" Although Levi has a lifetime to execute such spells, he would need to cut to the chase, considering that he's already a fifth year.

River too stood up and took Levi's hand to shake, grinning at the young man as he did so. "Well, one day you will inherit that title, Master Kenning, but if you say so..." he paused, letting go of the boy's hand. "Or perhaps, I really should stop calling you that, for I don't want to be mistaken when the time comes for me to call you Healer Kenning." Grin. "My door is always open, Levi. Come stop by anytime if you need further help," he said nodding to the Gryffindor.

With in a second Pips was standing on top the desk of the healer in his office. He quivered and shook as he looked around with big eyes.

"Ohhhhh master Reed you are needed. Something is moving about the castle from that thing on the sixth floor. HICCUP HICCUP, misses sent Pips to get Master Healer because there is a hurt student and many students coming towards that thing. "

One of the downsides of being a full-time Healer was the fact that the person in charge of patients tends to completely forget about his well-being while looking out for the others. River was no exception, considering that he hasn't slept well since the Lost Boys returned to the real Hogwarts. After the boys were discharged, he had to turn his attention to the other students needing his help and counsel. One of them was the Head Girl who, unbeknown to the majority, has a lot going on in her life.

As soon as he found some alone time to finally shave off the stubble on his face, the House Elf decided to appear out of thin air on his table where he set up his paraphernalia to cut off his facial hair. River jumped out of his skin, dropped his razor, picked it up and cursed under his breath. He finally had time to clean--

Wait, the Sixth Floor? Again? And...something was moving around the castle?!

River could feel himself go pale, despite the blood trickling down his chin from his razor cut. "WHAT?!" With his half-shaven face, the Healer slammed his razor on the table, summoned his satchel and paced around his office with great speed, collecting potions and other healing tools he might use. "Thank you...Pips...for...the information." River's breathing was short as he crushed the panic that was rising from within as he locked and protected every door and window of the Hospital Wing. He too was quick to send Roscoe and Bumi to stay in the Main Ward to guard the students while they are all locked in there.

Within a minute, River was set and ran to where the portal was, wand at the ready.

Pips didn't mean to scare the healer nor did he mean to get him cut. He stood with wide eyes and whimpered when the healer yelled. Frozen in his spot he watched him gather things and nodded as he thanked him and headed out the door.

Once he left Pips pulled his ears and quickly poofed away.
