Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

Professor Hirsch will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
OOC: This duel must be completed by the 19th of February by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.

Rooney had promised himself that he was going to try his absolute hardest with his duels this year, seeing as his DADA exam had gone so well. The practical had been pretty awful and hard for him, but it had all turned in his favour and so he was going to continue with duelling club unless he and Professor Hirsch decided it was best for him not to. Before anything, the sixth year glanced towards the stands, something that he was used to doing when in any sort of ‘spotlight’ situation. He searched any crowd for his parents, but right now he was searching for a certain Gryffindor girl – aha. Brinlee Bronwyn was right there as she had promised. And with a notebook. Not that he thought she would make any decent notes at all.
Eventually looking at his opponent, Rooney smiled at Leon before walking away and bowing and making sure to stick to protocol and duel routine. As he drew his wand, he wasted no time in casting the first spell of their duel. ”Carpe Retractum!” Leon was a seventh year and clearly Rooney was going to pull out the best of everything he knew for this.

Leon was looking forward to his duels, it would be the last time he got to duel in school and the 7th year was feeling slightly nostalgic. While his opponent was distracted with the stands, Leon took the opportunity to see if anyone was there cheering him on!
Particularly a blonde prefect with amazing blue eyes..
While he didn't see her, he did see his newly discovered half sister and gave a head nod over to Az before turning to Rooney and smiling at him. He did the whole bow thing before holding his wand out and readying himself for what was to come.
The first spell came at him and he quickly moved his wand and said "Protego!" Hoping to deflect the ropes back at him and quickly followed it up with a quick "Incarcerous! " To follow it up! All right, he was ready.

Lucky for Rooney, he was pretty on his game after firing that first spell at Leon and was able to dodge the return of said spell by lunging out of the way to his left. This duel had a theme already: ropes. As he scrambled to his feet, Rooney dismissed the rope attack with a ”Contego!” and moved swiftly on. This was the year that he was going to really excel against students older than him. AND if he was to duel Rula this year, then he was going to absolutely dominate the arena and shock her so much that she forgot that they had ever duelled previously. He had no interest in sending the spell back to Leon, because ropes were petty and it had been a shoddy choice of spell to follow up ropes with ropes. Someone was clutching at straws ropes, it seemed.
In fact, Rooney went straight in and fired two spells back-to-back in the hope that Leon wouldn’t be able to keep up and at least one of them would have something. Actually…he figured that the seventh year would only try and use similar spells back against him and so he chose those that he could get away from easier. Throwbacks and confusion. First: ”Magicus Extremos!” And in what seemed like the same arm movement… ”Confundo!!”
Suck on that, Kennedy.

Leon was excited to see what the boy could throw at him. He had used ropes back at him in order to see what the Prefect had in in and the seventh year had to say he was impressed with the two spells that were thrown his way, in almost the same breath!
He quickly said "Protego!" In order to save himself from the first spell, bracing his legs a bit in order not to get thrown back too much and then.. a quick step to the side and the other spell passed right by him! He could actually feel it as it passed his side! Merlin! That was close and his adrenaline was pumping now.
The older Ravenclaw was enjoying this and he hope the Prefect would enjoy his next few spells, one of them was in honor of him!
"Cantis!" The Ravenclaw said with a grin as he aimed the spell at the boy and then on the same breath but much softer he said "Obscuro!"

Rooney’s face stiffened at how easy Leon was making it look to avoid any spell he sent his way and considered whether he had underestimated the other Ravenclaw. Two could play that game, though and the Prefect threw up a shield charm to block the spell that would have him singing. ”Didn’t have you pegged as a guy who likes other guys singing to them.” He grinned, but suddenly realised that speaking had put his off his stride as another spell came careering towards him. When darkness fell over his eyes, Rooney muttered a swear and started to bounce a little more erratically on the balls of his feet.
He didn’t have time to sort out his sight right now, but needed his opponent predisposed. Wand pointed in a direction, he cast one of the spells that he trusted best : a jelly legs jinx. Now to sort himself out. Wand aimed at himself, Rooney moved quickly. ”Finite!” He was glad to be able to see his surroundings again and looked straight to Leon to see if his spell had gone towards him or completely out of play.
What he knew though, was that he was certain of his next few moves.

Leon grinned as the boy seemed to realize he wasn't going to be such a pushover.. He wanted to be an Auror. He had to be fast and quick, especially if he wanted to protect and save people.
Leon grinned though as the other boys words.. "Naw, I just heard you had a good voice and wanted to see it for myself. " He said with a smile as he watched the Ravenclaw Prefect get hit by his obscuro spell!
He blinked as the boy tried to get the mask off and before he did, sent a spell off that went bouncing off the wall behind him!
Heh! That was a useful spell, he would have to use that one more often!
He held out his wand and then said "Lumos! " Hoping that the bright light might knock the Prefect off his game since he had been in the dark for a bit and then he said quieter... "Diminuendo! "
Let's see how he dealt with that!

It was evident on Rooney’s face that he already felt defeated by this duel and was probably going to need a thorough talking to from his girlfriend after this. No doubt he would cry. No doubt he would be infuriated and say some things that he shouldn’t have been saying about a house mate. This club was all supposed to be for fun and friendly competition, but absolutely every part of Rooney could not stand to be beaten or learn something to use in a duel only to stand defeated. He knew he was a brat and he knew that stomping his feet wouldn’t lead to him getting his way but he was STILL not over losing a duel to Blaise Bellaire years ago when he had been completely dominant in the arena.
Truth was, he would never be over it.
The flash of light caused him to raise his own wand and cast the immediate counter spell. ”Nox!” Leon’s next spell didn’t come as a surprise to Rooney and he very easily threw up a shield to dismiss any shrinkage. He used ”Protego!” this time, instead of the shield spell he had used earlier and swiftly cast once more as soon as the light from the spell fizzled away.
”Silencio!” Let’s see what Mr. Kennedy could do without that darling voice that was going to haunt Rooney. How was it that someone could evade every spell? He wasn’t that good. Roo had seen him work his wand and give his answers in class.
Butt kisser. That’s what he was.

The fact that both of these boys were good at duelling meant that they had a challenge of their own. In Hirsch's opinion, both of them needed a bit of a challenge so that they didn't get complacent with their duelling techniques.
And this duel showed that they weren't getting complacent.
How did he know? The spells being produced. The two were NEWT level students and were both very bright and, as such, he did expect great things from both but he was still pleasantly surprised at the advancement of spells being cast here. There was no teaser spell and no getting off easy here. What was that phrase again? Go big or go home?
That was clear for this duel.
All too soon, however, the duel had to come to an end and a magical shield was struck up between the two Ravenclaws. "Excellent duel, gentlemen! Really excellent," Yes, your Head of House was here. "I really like the variety of spells used today and the effort both of you have put in. But, Mr Kennedy, you've taken the lead in this duel so congratulations! And an excellent effort, Rooney."
