Rules are made for a reason: for your safety and the safety of others, not to mention the sanity of the Professors and Staff of Hogwarts. If you find yourself in this particularly smelly dungeon room, then you must have broken a rule and need punishment.

Take this time to learn the rules or else face the consequences.

She walked into the room and glanced around. This wasn't her first detention but hadn't had one in a few years so her stomach did a little flip being in there. She still felt it was ridiculous, the woman took fifty points and a detention. She knew other students who did far worse and got less, but she just figured she'd check this off as paying back for all the times she didn't get caught doing things.

It was time to just stand and wait until the headmistress spoke and told her what they would be doing for this detention. Moving to the right of the door she stood and waiting for the Headmistress to speak again. Her eyes stayed on the woman, but her mind was telling her to breathe and repeating Healer Reed's and Professor Hirsch's words to her.

Running detention was nothing new to Regina. She had done it plenty when she taught Defence at Ilvermorny. However, this was a new chapter in a book: never, in her years in the educational field, had she experienced a Head Girl in detention. It was her firm belief that those students were selected for a reason. The fact that Miss Franks-Mundie had landed herself here said enough to her about the girls' character.

The door slammed shut loudly behind her when the headmistress entered the room. It wasn't intentional, but she didn't let that surprise appear on her face. It remained neutral, her eyes unwavering and her lips tight. She pointed at the sole wooden chair in the middle of the room that did not look welcoming in the slightest.

"Sit," she stated solemnly. Then, as an afterthought, she held out her hand. "But hand over the badge first." It truly pained her to have to do this, but there were consequences that had to be delivered to children who were given the privilege of receiving such a title and ended up not upholding the expectations that came with it.

The door slamming made Natalia jump. She wasn't expecting it and it showed. Her eyes went to the noise and she took a deep breath. Anxiety already flying she wished she would have grabbed a potion before she left her room. She followed the headmistress with her eyes and stayed still. It had been since her fourth term, her first here that she had detention. She had a good streak that now was over, but she didn't care. She didn't do anything but stick up for the students and put her own life on the line to protect them. In her eyes it was that librarian that was at fault, but she assumed she wasn't going to get to plead her case so it was pointless to say anything.

Hearing her say sit she started to walk over but froze as the headmistress spoke again.

Her Badge?

She didn't move for a few moments. She didn't want to move, but she knew it had been stupid to get the badge in the first place. The other headmaster must have been eating rotten berries when he had decided with the staff that she was the seventh year for it. Taking it off she turned and handed it to the woman before turning and moving to the chair. She kept her head down and eyes on the floor.

She wouldn't let her see her cry, she wasn't going to cry.

Natalia freezing on the spot wasn't a surprise to her. She could imagine the thoughts running through her mind, the horror of having to unpin her badge from her robes. Regina knew that she would have died had they made her remover her badge when she was Head Girl at Ilvermorny all those years ago. Fortunately that had never been a reality for her, for she knew better than to bend the rules.

Her head tilted slightly after the Slytherin placed that badge into her hand and took a seat, head down. Needless to say, the headmistress was expecting the worse. Defiance, talking back, or even a temper tantrum was something she had braced herself for. She wondered what the difference here was. If she could be obedient to her, then why not the librarian?

Pocketing the badge, Regina then made a few click of her heels forward and crossed her arms. She looked down at the girl who seemed rather focused on staring down at the floor. She lightly coughed, a signal for the girl to look at her for this was serious business. "You are not in detention for wanting to help find information that would help us understand the nature of the portal, Miss Franks-Mundie. I want that to be quite clear to you," the woman stated factually. "You are here because you were blatantly rude to the librarian and made a scene in front of a number of students and Professors Stewart and Stewart. This is not the sort of behaviour that a Head Girl, someone meant to be a role model for the study body, should be displaying. Your actions in the library were disappointing. We expect better from our student leaders."

With that said, the woman then walked toward one of the walls and leaned against it. The lighting in the room suddenly darkened, the only light source being a candle. A figure then began to take form in the darkest corner of the room...

She was going to keep her head down as long as possible. She had to keep her emotions in check. That was proving difficult after everything going on. She just focused on a spot on the floor and was going to keep that until she was forced. That forced happened way sooner than she wanted and Nat took a breath before letting her dark eyes lifted to look at the headmistress.

She didn't mean for it to happen, but it just happened a small noise left her lips as she said she wasn't in detention for wanting to help. It sure felt that way. She had done nothing, but help since that stupid portal had opened and risked her own safety to make sure other's stayed safe and that librarian was of no help. It wasn't her fault she finally lost her cool after being called a joke by some, getting attitude from Flamsteed, and then the librarian. The small noise was all that she allowed to leave her lips, though. She went back to quiet as she watched the headmistress.

They expected better, she just kept her eyes on the woman, but her mind was already telling her how she knew, in the end, they'd wake up and realize she shouldn't have been picked. That she really wasn't good enough for the position.

Why was it getting darker? Nat kept her eyes on the headmistress so she had not even noticed the dark figure forming.

The small noise coming from the soon-to-be-graduate hadn't gone unnoticed, but Regina didn't say anything about it. Her words were final. What the girl thought of the situation was something that she did not care to hear. No matter what belief she had, there was absolutely no reason for the Head Girl of the school to behave in the manner she had. As headmistress of the school, she found it necessary to support her staff members and law down the law when students felt it was acceptable to treat them like mooncalf dung.

Her face remained expressionless as the room darkened. This was, after all, her doing. The woman knew exactly why the lighting had changed and what was happening on the other side of the room. The headmistress simply stared back at Natalia, watching the figure take form over the girl's shoulder. She was simply here now to watch the show that was about to start.

The five-foot-nine-inch figure stood in the shadows without making a sound for a solid two minutes. Her brown eyes were set on the one sitting in the chair as she twirled her brunette hair with an attitude about her. She suddenly stopped and crept up behind the girl, only to grab her by the shoulder and then address the real Natalia Franks-Mundie in the nastiest defiant voice possible, "WE have been guarding this thing since it came into this school. WE have been told by the headmistress to make sure students to not get near it, but now WE are supposed to leave it unguarded to go to a room to talk?" The faux Natalia got up and personal with the real one, adding with a scowl, "I'M staying HERE with the professor."

Natalia kept her eyes on the headmistress and with everything else going on in her life at the moment she was finding it rather easy to just focus on the woman. For the most part she hadn't been able to focus much on professors lessons or daily activities, but right now she just left her eyes set on the woman and her mind focused on questions. What were they going to do? How long would she be here? She took her badge what else could there be?

These questions kept running through her mind until she realized the woman wasn't looking directly at her she was looking over her shoulder. It wasn't until she was touched that Nat's focus go away. She jumped from her chair and turned to face whatever had touched her. Heavy breathing a shock hit her as she was facing herself. What the bloody hell? Her eyebrows arched at the girl's tone and words.

Oh for Merlin's sake..

Why did she even bother helping. Why did she even try to care? She spent all term trying to prove the haters wrong. To prove that she was good enough for the position and this, this is what they felt of her. She wasn't a jerk that day she was only trying to help protect. Professor Vance even allowed her to stay. She was starting to see that professors giving her permission to do things didnt' mean squat around here either.

She looked at the girl for a bit longer before taking her seat again and looking at the headmistress.

The headmistress, to be quite honest, was surprised that the Head Girl had nothing to say. Her initial shock was expected, but Regina noticed that the girl didn't seemed to be very amused by her double. Was that because she didn't like hearing her own words being thrown back at her face -- the very same words she said to an adult because she refused to follow his orders? Or was she simply mulling through her mind that she was in detention because she wanted to help? The woman wouldn't know until some sort of verbal reaction or expressional cue was given.

The headmistress gave the real Natalia a look before returning her eyes to the double. It looked like it had more to say...

The faux Natalia rapidly snapped her fingers to get the girl's attention again. Then she acted as if she had just been told that she needed to leave the area. "I as well as the other prefects were told to guard this, to not let anyone near it especially alone," she spat back, hopefully reminding the real Natalia of that moment with the former Astronomy professor. But that was not all she had to say. She then added in a smart aleck tone, "Plus I'M eighteen now, so I think I can decide if I stay in the corridor or not." And with that said, the double crossed her arms. She wasn't going to move anywhere she didn't want to go.

The latest statements the double had to say made one of Regina's eyes twitch a little. She remembered being informed that the girl refused to leave the scene after Flamsteed, an adult and Mysteries employee who was summoned to help with the situation, asked her to leave and let him do his job. Of age or not, the girl was very much a student and students were expected to treat adults with respect no matter what. As long as they were within castle grounds, they had school rules to follow.

The woman then glanced from the double to the actual Natalia. Was she seeing where this was going? If not, the double certainly had more to say.

Natalia had nothing to say and she was going to just sit there. She didn't know what the headmistress wanted her to do. Look at the image of herself that was truly taking everything out of context. She was so over the castle and so over trying to help where it was obvious it wasn't needed. If what she said to Flamsteed wasn't correct then maybe the headmistress should have informed the school that they were coming and that the badges shouldn't do their normal duty.

Her brown eyes moved back to the girl as she said things again and Nat tried hard, with fail to not roll her eyes. Once the figure was done talking she glanced again at the headmistress still not sure what she wanted her to do. If she was expecting her to cry or show that she was sorry for what she had said it wasn't happening. She wasn't sorry, she was doing her job and trying to protect students. She would never apologize for that and in that moment she was trying to help keep that idiotic man safe. Right now she wished she would have shoved him in and left. He would have gotten his spock moment and Nat could be elsewhere right now.

Maybe it was the portal, maybe it was the extra corridor duties, maybe it was Cal, or the stress of NEWTs, but Natalia Grace Fanks-Mundie was over it. Over it all and she was just going to sit here and stay quiet and be done. The woman could have her badge, she could send her home, but the head girl couldn't take another thing at this moment.

Being a Legilimens would have come in handy right now. All Regina could assume about the girl was that she thought this detention was a waste of time and that she had done nothing wrong. Had she said something, the woman would have told her flat out that her job, at that moment months ago, was to keep students away from the portal. Keeping adults away, especially those trained to deal with peculiarities, and not listening to their request to leave the area was not in her student leader job description. She was positive the other prefects would have been able to confirm as much.

However no words left the girl's mouth, so her attention returned to the double. It could resume now. If the message to the girl wasn't clear then, it was going to be very soon. This was why the Head Girl was here in the first place after all.

The faux Natalia then stood upright and walked around the room with a huff. It was clear now that she was not in a happy mood. Her face then turned toward her real double sitting in the chair, her eyes throwing daggers at her. "Well let's hope your life doesn't depend on any of these books then because it will be your own fault if you are in the portal," she suddenly said in a tone that was anything but nice. Then, like a four year old having a temper tantrum, she stormed off to one of the dark corners of the room.

Regina's face remained quite neutral at this point, though it could easily be assumed that she did not like that reenactment one bit. It was blatantly obvious that no student, of age or not, should ever talk to any adult in that way ... and that attitude that came with it left a bad taste in her mouth. The woman's head tilted slightly to the side. "Anything to say, Miss Franks-Mundie? Or should we let your double continue one more time?"

Nat sat there her eyes on the headmistress. She glanced at the door. She could just leave. It was an option, she could quit and be done. Yes she would not be able to take NEWTs and she would disappoint Joe, but she couldn't take another day at the moment. Where was Healer Reed when you needed him. She felt the anxiety bubbling, but ignored it for the time being. There was nothing she was going to do about it now, she was just going to sit here.

The imitation her started to talk again and this time the words went through her. She knew she shouldn't have said them, that she would own, but at the moment she was frustrated, hurt, and upset. The librarian deserved it in her opinion. The woman was not very nice, she barely gave Nat the time of day last term when she tired to talk to her and now this term.. She had permission to be in there and that woman acted like she didn't. Acted like she was doing something wrong. Again the act of helping being wrong.

Her eyes lifted to the headmistress. She sat quietly biting her cheek. If she spoke emotions were going to happen and she was so beyond the emotions happening. She wished that portal would have just taken her. It would have been easier than being here. She looked to the ground, "What would you like me to say ma'am? That I stink at head girl? I could have told you that at the beginning of term or better yet go ask your Ravenclaw prefect. He enjoys saying that I only have the badge because of my father." Yep she shouldn't have spoke, because now she wasn't going to be able to control her thoughts, emotions, or words. "Would you like me to say that even though I've tried and tried to prove him wrong to do the best I can to keep up with everything that I'm still wrong? That trying to not let someone be alone because what I thought was right was wrong? Or would you like me to say that even though I had permission to be in that restricted section, even after everything that had happened, the librarian still treated me as if I was sneaking in there and had no right to be there? That she put a book back I wanted to show the professor, that she magically ripped a book out of my hands that I was looking at, so I lost it? Is that what you want me to say?" What did the woman want from her she was so over it, all of it.

For a split second, the woman expected the girl to remain quiet in her seat. But then she suddenly spoke, and it was clear to Regina that the Head Girl had missed the entire point of this detention. She was taking it too personally and letting things that had nothing to do with the detention mush together and ultimately cloud how she should behave as someone with the title of Head Girl. But the headmistress remained leaning against the wall in silence, taking everything in until the girl was done with her rant.

"Miss Franks-Mundie, you need to stop right there," the woman said, unmoving from her position. "If I may be honest with you, you are not understanding the reason for why you are here. You are letting what your peers tell you" -- though that tidbit about Bronwyn was interesting and she'd be getting to the bottom of that -- "take over your mind, and you are easy to put the blame others."

There was a pause to let that sink in. It gave the headmistress a moment to question when the strong-willed girl started caring what boys like Rooney Brownyn had to say about her. But it also have her a moment to think about the situation with the librarian. Again, the girl was taking it too personally. The librarian had her reasons for removing her and Mr. Salander from the Restricted Section, and it was her job to monitor them -- she had done nothing wrong. In all honesty, Regina never would have allowed them them search in the Restricted Section anyway considering the dark material within many of those books.

"Now, let's stop and focus on why you are here, in this room, right now. You are going to watch your double one last time. I want you to tell me what you did to land yourself in detention with me this evening based on everything it has said to you," she instructed before adding, "Remember that Mr. Bronwyn and the school librarian are not here serving detention; you are."

Taking its cue, the double sprung back in action and stepping back into the candlelight. "I should know better?" The double walked around the room without saying anything to let those four words really sink in to the real Natalia's mind. After circling the girl a few more times, it continued speaking. "The librarian is refusing to get rid of her control freak attitude and let us look." With another scoff, the faux Natalia briskly stormed off into the darkness and dematerialized.

"Well?" She hoped that girl, for the first time in this detention, would take a moment to think like the of-age person she claimed to be and choose her words carefully.

She left her eye on the woman, she didn't care about that double anymore nor about why she was here. It was pointless and she was over it. Blame others? She was stating facts. The woman really didn't know her at all. This was obvious and sad that a headmistress could so easily not know her own students. If she did she would know how much Natalia always blamed herself. Always blamed her own self for the ruination of everyone else. She was always trying to prove herself to her mother, to her peers, and worse to herself.

That didn't matter though, it was obvious. Her thoughts didn't matter at all. The woman wanted her to just say she was wrong, that the librarian was perfect and had no wrong in this at all. That she should grovel at the feet of them and apologize. That part was not going to happen. She wasn't sorry, she wasn't sorry at all for any of it. She did what she did for her own reasons and she wasn't sorry for doing them.

The double talked and Nat didn't look at her. She just sat there chewing her cheek. She was at her breaking point and didn't want to deal with any of it. Well? Well what? She knew what she wanted, but Natalia wasn't giving it. No, they weren't here in the detention though from what she heard in the actions of the boy with his confessing love maybe he should be, but that wasn't her problem.

She crossed her arms and just sat there. "I know I'm in here for my words to the librarian." That's about all she was getting.

The double was no more ... and it didn't seem to do any good. Did she really have to spell it out for the girl? The headmistress hoped that a girl of eighteen would have been able to figure out that there was a certain manner that she was to behave as Head Girl, that she failed to uphold those expectations, and that she was only making matters worse with her attitude. Regina knew that the girl had done all she could to be helpful over the course of the term, but the disobedience to adults, even if they weren't professors, and rudeness that came with it was something the headmistress had a huge problem with.

As the minutes passed by, the woman stared at Natalia. The crossed arms and just sitting there spoke volumes to her. It made her wonder what the girl was trying to prove by not being compliant besides the obvious. If the girl thought Regina wanted her to grovel at their feet, then maybe she'd keep the badge permanently because that was not the point of this detention at all.

When she finally spoke, it took every fibre of her being not to roll her eyes at Natalia. Was that all she had to say? Honestly? Well ... at least it was something to work with. "And what in particular was wrong about them?" she asked, wanting to hear the words come out of the girl's mouth to prove that she understood why that got her in detention.

This was never going to truly end was it? She kept her eyes on the floor. She had to be bringing blood towards the surface of her cheek for the amount she was chewing on it. She wasn't even looking at the headmistress anymore. She was just there. Her mind just focusing on the spot on the floor and trying to not have any outburst in here. How made would Joe be if he knew what was going on? She wasn't even sure she knew the answer.

"They were out of line and rude." There was that was she was waiting for? She knew they were, but she didn't care at that moment either. She felt the librarian deserved it and wasn't sorry for saying it. It wasn't like she had much of a good adult role model before coming to live with Joe and here to Hogwarts, but she had managed to learn how to act and be, but she also learned to speak her mind too. She had felt very disrespected that day as well and didn't feel it was right that an adult was allowed to be that way when she could not.

So now she just sat quiet again and wished for the detention to be over. She had her badge wasn't that enough?

"Yes, they were out of line and rude," the woman repeated, taking loud clacking steps toward the girl. It was one thing to say the words, but actually mean them and say them looking into a person's eyes was another. It actually meant something if one could admit their fault, without putting the blame on someone else, and be able to look someone in the eye. It showed character, not this attitude of not caring.

Progress, minimal nonetheless, was being made finally. Though this staring-at-the-floor nonsense was going to come to an end.

Now standing only a few feet away, Regina then stated, "I understand that you were quite upset by the situation. But why is it wrong for the Head Girl to say something out of line and rude to an adult? What could you have done differently in that situation or any other situation in which you were told to do something you did not agree with? And this time I would appreciate it if you could tell me and not the floor." If the woman needed to conjure up a chair soon, she would. They could stay here all night if they really had to.

Why was this still going on? She didn't have anything else to say. She just wanted to be as far away as possible. Nothing really mattered anymore. She had a headache that was growing stronger by the second. She listened but still didn't lift her eyes. She couldn't look at the woman for she knew she would lose her emotions if she moved more than the smallest amount. She heard her talking and she bit her tongue. The things she wanted to say, the things she wanted to do. Throwing the chair in her frustrations sounded nice in her head, but she knew it wouldn't go well so she stayed sitting.

She looked up at the woman, but she barely saw the woman. "It was wrong because children should just do what they are told. They should just listen and obey because what the adult says is what is correct and the child is not.They should be seen and not heard. " Her mother's words easily came out of her mouth with this answer. That's what they really wanted, wasn't it? It's what this was all about.

The fact that they were still in this room was alarming. It was a stupid reason that she Head Girl wound up here, and it was stupid that they had spent this much time in the dark room. They were here because of a lack of respect, which was something that surely everyone learned about and understood the concept of at a young age. But that fact that an almost-graduate couldn't model it and act upon that concept was scary. That badge would be staying in her possession for the rest of the term at this rate.

Especially if she continued to talk like that.

"Natalia Grace Franks-Mundie," the headmistress stated in a no-nonscense tone. "You know just as well as I do that that was the wrong response to give. Yes, it is important for children to do as they are told by adults -- especially in a school setting where there are rules that are to be followed. But you know just as well as I that we here at Hogwarts do not live by the 'children should be seen and not heard' mantra. You have a voice here, but it is how you decide express yourself that matters."

For a moment the woman seriously considered conjuring herself up a chair for her to sit in. But she was going to give her another chance. "Let's try again, and this time let's not make things harder on ourselves and respond the way an of-age witch should. Why is it important that you as the Head Girl of the school are not being out of line and disrespectful to adults? What could you have done differently in that situation with Ms. Davis?"

She was getting to the point of exhaustion and it was showing by the way she squirmed a bit. Mentally and emotionally she was struggling, she had been struggling. She was doing everything possible to not show it in here. To be the strong one and just show she didn't care. It was easier that way, it had been something she had gotten good at with her old school, but since being here she had lost it. She had gained friends, professors that actually cared, things were different here. So this was hard to deal with right now.

Her full name did get her attention. She kept her eyes on the headmistress now. Her shoulders slumped a bit when those weren't the right words. Of course they weren't, her mother was a monster. Maybe worse than the one in that portal. She was going to have to just get through this so she could leave. She was going to have to just lie and pretend she was sorry. She knew that was going to have to happen. She hated to lie but thanks to mommy dearest she had been trained to be good at it.

"I needed to be a better role model for the other students and even if I didn't agree with the librarian I should have kept my comments to myself and just agreed with her. Letting her take the book from my hands and leaving the restricted area when she kicked us out." For no good reason. They hadn't hurt any books or did anything wrong. She actually hoped the woman would be pushed into the portal, but that was just her own opinion and she wouldn't say it aloud.

It was mentally exhausting for Regina to have to stand here with a seventh year and talk about this behaviour the girl was exhibiting. At this age, the headmistress believed, Natalia should have been well beyond the tantrums and outright disrespect of her elders. If the girl wanted to succeed in the wizarding world, she had a lot of growing up to do. Within the grounds of the castle grounds, second chances could be given. Beyond those boundaries outside was a completely different world.

"Good. Very good," she said, visibly nodding her head in approval. "As Head Girl, you are held to higher expectations. You are a role model, someone that students look up to. Your actions haven't always been appropriate for a role model, Miss Franks-Mundie. The episode in the library was very disappointing to hear about, and I am sure it wasn't a pretty sight for those who were present."

Even though the 'right' words came out Natalia's mouth, Regina did not completely buy that what the girl had said was done so genuinely. She had dealt with kids like this before at Ilvermonry, mind you the ones behaving in such manner were generally first or second years. So, if the seventh year thought they were done here now, then she was oh-so-very wrong.

"Now, Miss Franks-Mundie, I am afraid that there are going to be hundreds more people who are going to upset you in the future. You're going to want to disobey them, shout at them, and maybe even worse," she continued, being quite honest with her. The librarian would be the least of her problems if this attitude persisted. "What can you do to address the situation upfront or to help you not get your wand in a knot? What could you do if someone does or says something that you do not agree with or do not want to do?" If she was truly learning from this detention, she would easily be able to come up with some valid options.

Why was she still talking? Nat was going in and out of listening. She heard every word but agreed with only parts of it. She knew better than to show what shew as truly feeling so she just let the old numbing feeling go over her as she sat and took what was being given to her. Yes, yes disappointing to her hear. Yes, Nat was very use to being a disappointment. She was beginning to think the headmistress and her mother could get on pretty well. She could even see them having tea and talking about what a disappointment that she was. How she ruined all things around her. It could be a good time for the two.

She looked at the woman as she continued to talk and nodded here and there to show she was listening. "I can walk away instead of saying something wrong or I could just go with what they are saying if need be." She wasn't five she knew what the better choices were. She knew what to say and do, but at that moment she couldn't and didn't. Everything had hit a wall and she blew up, she knew that, but it just wasn't worth saying. No one truly understood where she had come from, what she was going through. So instead of trying to talk about it she just accepted whatever fate the headmistress gave.
