| | |  The Tower Patch
 At the top of the north tower some ways down from the Astronomy classroom is a large rooftop garden that has been expanded in memory of the late Marion Burbage, substitute professor of Astronomy. Lush green hedges and flower beds line the perimeter of the area and a large fountain greets you towards the opposite end. Located to the left of the fountain is a stone plaque engraved with words from former Headmistress Truebridge herself which reads :
Rest in peace old friend, beloved wife, renowned stargazer, and special professor. Always in our hearts.
Beside this plaque lays another plaque placed in memory of another professor who gave their life while in service to Hogwarts. The plaque reads :
In Memory of E.M. Forrester, a brilliant space scientist, educator, and Slytherin Head of House. He will be missed.
Wooden benches and tables are scattered throughout the patch for students and professor alike to lounge, reflect on social events, complete homework tasks, and just generally hang out. Positioned at each of the four corners of the Tower Patch are topiary depicting each of the four house's mascots crafted by Hogwarts students themselves - a lion, a badger, an eagle, and a snake - that have been proven sturdy enough to climb upon.

She didn't, though. Because people said she was becoming more and more moody and explosive. She was proving them wrong here, in addition to keeping Sam on her side. If you want to ask someone to do what she was going to ask him to do, you'd want them to be on your GOOD side.
Melancholy? "I am not being melancholy," she couldn't help imitate him a bit there. "I am simply having a tough day and so I thought we could talk about something neutral. Like study." Oh what the hell, who was she kidding. "Okay fine, I want to ask you something!" She blurted out before he had a chance to say anything, and she abandoned her post by the ledge to completely face him. "I know it's weird and not at all what I had in mind and it's a little selfish but it's the only way. It's been building too much pressure on me, and I keep losing points so people don't even like me much around here, and seeing that we're trapped in the castle, there really isn't any other way. Everyone in our year has done it, I'm tired of hiding under the blanket when the girls in the dorm are talking about it while I just nod and pretend to care. And to top it off, all the girls whose parents know my parents are, like, the hottest in school right now and people are fighting each other to be with them." How humiliating for Genny Tate. "I just want to get it over with, but not with a random student and definitely not with a boy I hit,"--PAUSE--"On purpose, I mean." Because... the bruise on his forehead...
OKAY. Okay.
Say it. Just... say it.
Eyebrows furrowed and brown eyes looking as determined and brave as ever, she said it, "I need you to kiss me." And somehow holding her breath after the 'me' seemed like a good idea!!! |

Sam gave her a deadpanned look as Genny gave her explanation of how she was simply having a tough day and wanted to talk about something 'neutral.' Yeah, she was about as easy to see through as a window. But hey, she was coming to her senses because she didn't keep that act up for very long at all. In fact, she wanted to ask him something. "Yeah?" Well, that was rather flattering. Coming to him for advice, eh? "Okay, go on."
And when she went on, Sam had a hard time following what exactly she was saying, or getting at. Which didn't happen often! He usually had no trouble following a conversation or lecture, but this was somehow trickier. No doubt it was because Genny was being so vague, of course. Yes, totally her fault. So, people weren't liking her because of house points.. everyone in school had already done 'it.' It? Wait, what was it? It it? And she just wanted to get it over with?
What exactly was she getting at here..........
Oh. Ohhh. Kissing.

Surely he couldn't kiss her.
"You are crazy." Did she know that? "I'm not gonna kiss you just because you want to have your first kiss!" Granted, the only reason he'd already had his first kiss(es) was because two girls found out he was NBK. Ahem. But that was beside the point!

He just happened to meet her basic criteria; and he was just being matter-of-fact about it.
Oh Merlin's beard, then she went ahead and stepped even closer. Although it was actually extremely strange because for a split second - the splittest of seconds - Sam wanted to kiss Genny.
But, as swiftly as the feeling came, the feeling was thrust aside. This was NONsense. And surely that had only occurred because Genny just happened to not look like a complete troll.
He took a step back from her. "Quit moving! Look, we'll find you another guy to drag up here and kiss. This school is half guys, you know."
Crazy, crazy girl.

Stomping a foot, she turned away from him (and the view) and furiously slid down to sit on the floor with her arms still crossed and her scary frown decorating her face.
He didn't get it. At. ALL.
If she wanted just to do it with anyone, she would've already. It was supposed to be perfect and with someone she wanted to stick with for a long time. Ugh. Maybe she should've asked Davie to do it instead of Sam, Sam was being such a coward. "I think it's good that you don't want it to be with just some random guy," Sam told her. She could clearly use some more positive words right now, instead of phrases like "no" and "you're crazy" (she was crazy, though). He looked over at her to watch her face.

It was lucky floating around didn't have the same affect as running had when Alfred was alive, because he was sure running up all these stairs would have killed him!
The Tower Patch. Was Marion around? Had she seen anything? He couldn't...see anything around here except two students. He clutched his heart and turned around in circles, seeing if he could sense anything?

Aah, okay. He was being shunned because he wouldn't kiss her. The edges of his mouth twitched as she shuffled her bum over so that there was a bigger gap between them. But he had an easy solution for this: Sam shuffled his bum over so that they were close again.
There was a brief period of silence until Genny spoke and caused his mouth to spread into a grin. He wasn't 'allowed' to look at her. He even received a poke to the chin, which then morphed into a poke to the cheek that made his head bob over a little and only made him smile a little more. "You're nice to look at, though. I've seen boys look at you in a.. fond way." Would he receive another poke for not being deterred?
Sam didn't find out, because suddenly there was a giggle that no doubt originated from somewhere close by. Any traces of his smile had vanished instantly - he was quite peeved about the fact that they were apparently being spied on, especially right now. "Oi!" He was on his feet again. Where did that even come from? Sam's eyebrows lowered over his blue eyes as he searched for the culprit, his wand ready in his hand. "Homenum Revelio."
Now obviously he and Genny hadn't done a thing, but he was still quite embarrassed, which rippled into him being irritated, which really just made him very ready to hex whoever this nosy, inconsiderate person was!
Honestly, and he'd just been easing into a good mood.
It was then that his eyes landed upon the ghost. "Really?!" Surely that fat friar hadn't giggled like that.

Where did that even come from? Sam's eyebrows lowered over his blue eyes as he searched for the culprit, his wand ready in his hand. "Homenum Revelio."
Now obviously he and Genny hadn't done a thing, but he was still quite embarrassed, which rippled into him being irritated, which really just made him very ready to hex whoever this nosy, inconsiderate person was!
Honestly, and he'd just been easing into a good mood.
It was then that his eyes landed upon the ghost. "Really?!" Surely that fat friar hadn't giggled like that.
Genny pretended to not like that he moved closer again after shuffling away, but she did. This was why she picked Sam to be here with her, because even though he wanted to throw her to the quid in the lake once, he did care about their friendship. Good he proved he right, whew!
... was that him consoling her? Genny, who was determined to being upset with Sam now and giving him impossible rules, her frown eased instantly when he told her about those mysterious boys who looked at her fondly. Really? She looked at him carefully with a forced upset face. As opposed to smart as it was, she actually believed him. It did not occur to her that he could be saying that just to make her feel better. "Well--"

The fat friar was here too. Genny liked him a lot, he was sweet and looked so squishy it was a shame she couldn't touch him. However, he was here at such an inconvenient time. She watched him go in circles, never thinking about accusing him of this. | |

It was pure curiosity and adrenaline that kept the young lion running up ALL THOSE STAIRS. Merlin's beard, they needed to make lower towers. He'd already been up and down them so many times today between classes and common room things and now here he was running up them again.
If he checked his mirror later and couldn't find at least ONE new bit of muscle development, these ghosts and whatever that force was would be receiving a very strongly worded letter from his quill--he would even add some too!
Finally, Blaise came to a skidding stop just next to the Friar and Livvy. For as far as he could see, there was only Genny and that Sam kid who was also in his house. He wouldn't ask if she'd seen anything, mostly because he'd caught the tail end of her yell about something pulling her hair. It hadn't been the Friar, which left few other options.
Someone tell him he didn't walk all the way up here for nothing. PLEASE! There was nothing more heartbreaking than missing a big story. This right here, had the potential to be big and the 15 year old's quill was poised and ready as it floated just above his shoulder.

Both the giggling and the yanking stopped. There was a pause then the thing, whatever it was, gave the girl's hair [Genny] one hard yank and disappeared before anyone could get a proper look.
It was time to hide somewhere else... Giggle. Giggle.

Alfred jerked around, going in the direction of the giggle but to no avail! "Whatever it is, is gone!" he cried.
There was a lot of shivering from the plump ghost.

Holy kneazle there it was again! While Blaise couldn't see the thing, he could clearly see the way Genny's hair received another harsh yank before the giggling began to soften.
"Bloody hell...." He muttered, looking off in the direction it appeared to be heading. How were they going to catch this thing if it never stayed in the same place for more than a few minutes?
They could drop the search, find something more constructive to do with their time but at this point...that would be homework......so invisible, giggling force it was.
"It'll keep running us in circles if we keep this up. We need a plan."

Sam was slightly baffled to see that his spell did absolutely nothing. Zilch. What even..? The only thing it seemed to trigger was more giggling.
His confusion showed as he turned his head to look at Genny. This thing yanked her hair, as well? And then, suddenly, RIGHT in front of his eyes, he saw Genny's head lurch downward as something clearly tugged on her hair again. Sam's eyes widened and he reached out to try to grab it, but his fingers simply clenched the air.
On top of their mysterious, giggling guest and the Fat Friar, Olivia and Blaise both came charging up to the rooftop. Honestly, what was going on here? It was a good thing he and Genny HADN'T kissed because this had quickly turned into a bad setting for that.
The Fat Friar must have caught the look he gave him because then the ghost was explaining that the giggling most certainly had not been from him. What he sensed wasn't human? Well, yes, Sam gathered that after his spell proved worthless. But the way the Fat Friar said it. And the way he was shivering... it left Sam feeling uneasy.
And extremely curious.
But by now, the giggles had faded to the point where they were no longer there at all. This.... thing must have left. With the friar following after. "Wait! Mr. Friar!" Sam started in that direction, but the ghost had vanished. Bugger. Although it seemed the ghost knew about as much as they did.
He turned back to Genny again. "That was weird....." He glanced over his shoulder at the two Gryffindors who'd joined them. Weird.

Genny was busy fixing her ponytail and letting Sam handle the invisible prankster when Liv came up after the ghost... then Blaise shortly after, looking like he lost something important. What could he have lost here? And why did it get crowded here all of the sudden?
Did they--- "Oooowwww! Ugh!" Her head bobbed again as the bloody thing pulled her hair again. Again! It was really not the time for pranks, Genny was feeling vulnerable and.. oh what the hell, she just didn't like that she was the only one getting yanked around here. "Not human?" The friar's words rang in her head. "Definitely Peeves. Or that lover of his." Wife? She was not in the mood to humor them by calling them with their new titles.
Genny stepped closer to Sam who bravely tried to catch the culprit, and shot a look at Blaise. "Plan? It's gone. There's no plan other than developing unnatural powers to see the unseen." Jacob puffed a bit as he finally caught up to Olivia. Those stairs put a bit of a stitch in his side. He spent most of his time reading, not running. Yikes. He had seen most of the scene unfold as he was making his way up, the hair yanking and the spell casting and whatnot. The fat friar -- a ghost Jacob actually thought seemed pretty cool, not like the terrifying, super scary Bloody Baron -- was floating around, and there were a couple of Gryffindors he didn't know up there, too. "What the heck is happening? What is this thing?" he asked after catching his breath. Probably a stupid question. Obviously they didn't know what it was. That was why they were chasing it. Duh. He glanced around the tower patch, looking for... Well, he didn't know what he was looking for. But something.

He caught the part about developing powers to see the unseen. Yes, that was true. Maybe there wasn't a way for wizards to see the unseen, but perhaps there was a way to make the invisible visible? Unless this thing was not corporeal at all, ever.
It was a lot to process, and to consider.
Regardless, Sam himself was still feeling peeved about the giggling and then all the following intrusions, so he tucked his wand back in his pocket and looked at Genny. "Let's go back to the common room."
