Maddie found several things appealing about dueling Angelo Toussaint. He knew what he was doing so it meant she might actually learn something during the duel. He wouldn't go easy on her which meant she'd need to keep on her toes and be ready for anything. She actually enjoyed him. Like, that was a rarity, yeah? And that meant this might actually be fun as well as educational. Look at her enjoying school. Hirsch might've won her over without flashing that pretty smile of his. Good on him.

"Think Dima has pom poms to cheer you on?" The brunette inquired with a smile before taking the appropriate steps away from her opponent and bowing her head to him. "Or perhaps he made you a poster." He was quite artistic, after all. And she was going to cast a non-verbal Feather-light Charm on herself while they were making small talk just in case.

Wand at the ready, Maddie eyed Angelo curiously. She'd never seen him duel so she had no idea what to expect from him and that intrigued her. Sending a Jelly-Legs Curse his way, she waited to see how quick his reflexes were. No doubt, very.

He wasn't supposed to do any real damage to his opponent, and there was a limit as to which spells he could use. Some of his favourites were specifically banned, and there were other things he wouldn't do for his brother's sake, but Angelo had no plans to go easy on Maddie either.

"The Pom-poms and posters would be for you, Maddie, I'm sure. Dmitriy knows I don't need a cheering section." Angelo answered before taking his paces and bowing with a flourish.

He side stepped her spell and conjured three black cobras which went slithering towards her before they stretched up, hoods spread.

"Don't worry too much, Maddie, I do have anti-venom with me." Angelo said casually and smiled at her.

Lucky Maddie wasn't scared of snakes. Had he conjured, like, sharks-well... Yeah, she wasn't even going to think of such a thing.

"So thoughtful, Toussaint." The brunette's eyes never left the snakes as she made use of Vipera Evanesca to disintegrate them. Followed shortly by a stickfast hex and a freezing charm in quick succession.

Also...

"If Dmitriy was going to cheer for me, I'd have requested a full cheerleading uniform." He had nice legs too. Just saying.

"You've pegged me. To a t, Maddie." Thoughtful. That was what he was. Angelo blocked without appearing to do much at all: a flick of the wrist of his non-wand hand and two small flares of light where her spells impacted his shielding. Non-verbally (of course), he threw a babbling curse her way, followed by a quick one-two of a combination he'd learned from his aunt: duro to turn her shoes to stone, and a toenail growing hex. Painful. And difficult to walk when under that combination's effects.

Still not the sort of spell work he preferred but what could you do?

TakemetotheBurrow 07-17-2016 11:23 PM

Angelo was faster than her and Maddie was both impressed and annoyed, though the latter didn't register on her face at all when she was hit with the babbling curse. Well, that was unfortunate and as quick as she was putting an end to it, she wasn't quick enough that she could block her feet being turned to stone. She did, however, manage to block the toenail growing hex and send it back towards the YATI when it hit her shield.

This whole stone feet thing was wildly uncomfortable and to give herself a moment to deal, she aimed her wand at the ceiling between them, causing an explosion. Thank you, Bombarda. Then turning her attention to the rubble, she made use of Engorgio to give herself a boulder to block her from view, even if only for a moment.

Now to get rid of this stone situation. Dot would be horrified. Surely stone footwear wasn't in this year.

A side step (very casual), he patiently cast the Impiriano shield, an almost silvery blue bubble appearing around him and remaining there as the rubble flew and pinged off of it, and Angelo remained unharmed and decidedly unruffled.

Would it be problematic to use his particular brand of magic to create a golem? Angelo considered it for a split second and then, instead, exploded the engorged boulder, hot stone shrapnel expanding outward and leaving a sizzling hole where it had stood.

"Alright there, Maddie?" He asked politely.

TakemetotheBurrow 07-18-2016 10:32 PM

No longer prisoner to the stone, Maddie had managed to move back and away from her boulder, anticipating Angelo's next move. She'd have blasted the thing to bits, too.

From behind her own shield, the brunette shrugged her shoulders as the debris rained down around her. "Doing much better than the boulder, thanks." But not SO much better, to be honest. He was dominating the duel without much effort at all and it was frustrating. Mostly because she knew people were watching them, her best friends included, most likely. "And you?" It was only polite to ask.

Deciding movement was best, she stayed mobile and began her attack on his senses. The Conjunctivitis Curse and the Ear-shriveling Curse would be a good start, followed by a nonverbal Jelly-Brain Jinx.

TeafortheSoul 07-19-2016 09:32 AM

"Its a shame so many fun spells are banned from your little club." Angelo pointed out. Sectumsempra... Knee-reversal... Entrail-Expelling, even Stupefy though he found that amusing given he knew that his small cousin was the reason that particular spell had been banned. He couldn't use his legilimency either. Not that he needed it.

"These little spells are beneath you, Maddison. Even if they hit your target, they wouldn't disable a real opponent for long." For the record. His silvery blue shield was one that was resistant to physical attacks rather than magic, but Angelo simply cast protego with a small, precise gesture of his off hand, not bothering to sidestep.

She was moving now. Angelo conjured a storm of fire, which snaked around in a ring, the goal being to corral her and limit her range rather than to hurt her. She was too pretty for burn scars to be a thing. Taking note of her moving and anticipating her trajectory, Angelo followed this up by casting Redactum Skullus, several times, in ongoing bursts of magic.

"Give me something more."

TakemetotheBurrow 07-19-2016 08:46 PM

"I'm fairly certain Gryffindors had something to do with that," She offered thoughtfully. Surely a 'Hey mate, ever had your knees reversed?' had been used and ended badly and now all duelers of Hogwarts had to suffer because of it. That was her theory, anyway.

The fire was inspired and Maddie liked to think it was the perfect representation of her own hotness, though the heat was fairly uncomfortable and made her attempt at mobility harder to manage. She found herself in the center of the ring and feeling some type of bothered by Angelo's words. "So sorry to disappoint." Her expression was rather impassive but the words hit home for reasons that had nothing to do with the older boy across from her. Luckily her focus was turned to the whole him trying to shrink her skull-thing. Yeah, no. Not happening. She was skilled enough with a shield to send them rebounding towards him, hopefully occupying him enough so that she could make use of the extinguishing spell.

As for him wanting more. "You didn't even say please." It was so incredibly rude to demand things like that. Still, he could start with a strongly intended Everte Statum followed up by a Fumos/Ventus Duo combo in his direction.

TeafortheSoul 07-20-2016 01:27 PM

"Please." Angelo said obligingly, the smoke she conjured peeling around his Impiriano shield and leaving him unaffected, the Everte Statum avoided with quick footwork. He flicked his wand and increased the heat from the flames surrounding her. And with the smoke clouds of course there was no visibility so he took the opportunity, naturally, conjuring a copy and transferring the visible Impiriano shield to the copy before disillusioning himself and making sure to obliterate any visible sign of his stealthy movements, stalking around her. A gamble maybe, but worth it.

The difficult part was, of course, keeping up the charade that the copy was him. Magically, he threw his voice so that it would come from his shielded copy and not give away his true position.

"A little better, Maddie. Perhaps one day we can duel for real. Maybe you can even train with my father."

TakemetotheBurrow 07-21-2016 12:24 AM

The increased heat was starting to make the seventh year tired and while she could stand it, she couldn't afford the distraction so she focused her energy first on successfully extinguishing the flames, and then on breaching his shield.

Able to move freely now, she considered the offer. "I'll see if I can make time for that. It could be useful..." Just like Partis Temporus which was cast non-verbally, followed closely by Orbis. "Plus I'd like to see him in action." And she was on the move again, wand at the ready.

"Did you hear I got into Athens?"

TeafortheSoul 07-21-2016 11:42 AM

He stalked her silently, step for step and then fit himself into place, disillusioned still, and in her blind spot.

"I did hear that." Angelo said, right into her ear, right as her spells hit his double. And his wand? Was at her throat. "Congratulations."

"Care to yield?"

TakemetotheBurrow 07-21-2016 07:58 PM

Well, she should've seen that coming and she smiled to herself at his stealth. Well played, Toussaint. Not moving a muscle, the brunette focused first on Homenum Revelio, then on her options. Would she simply be handing her wand over?

"What do you think?"

No, Maddie wasn't built that way.

She'd used the Switching Spell before and there was rubble large and small from the earlier explosion she'd caused in sight, which meant maybe...yes, maybe she could switch his wand out for a small piece of the ceiling sitting on the floor. It was worth a shot and so she tried, putting all her energy into it. Concentrating, breathing steady. If anything, it was an inspired idea.

hermionesclone 08-03-2016 07:32 PM

Do you hear that? That was the sound of banter in the air.

And Hirsch secretly loved it.

Though, in all honesty, the man understood very little of what was being said. Not because English was his second language, but because he knew very little about the, er, relationship between these two duellers. All he knew was that this Toussaint was, possibly, related to two other Toussaints that he had the pleasure of teaching and both of whom actually came out on top last year. Maybe it was a family thing?

Whatever. He had a duel to concentrate on.

A duel that was starting to heat up, quite literally. It wasn't the first time that someone had conjured up a ring of fire during a duel but Merlin, it was interesting to see how Miss Cooper had managed to get out of that, wasn't it? He was on hand in case anything got out of hand but, as it turned out, he didn't need to worry about that. The seventh year was more than capable of looking after herself. Maybe she could go into the Auror field too?

It was a shame that the duel had to come to a close eventually, especially given the way things had just gotten even more exciting with Mr Toussaint's all too stealthy move. Good move, Toussaint, good move. "Excellent! What a display of magical abilities!" he said, stepping out from his spot in the shadows and smiling at the participants, "Thank you for your time, Mr Toussaint. It's very much appreciated." And do stick around so that he could hear the man's thoughts about the Ravenclaw's duelling tactics?

"Miss Cooper," he said, turning to her and smiling even more, "I have to say, I'm very impressed. How did you find the duel?" Here's hoping it was challenging enough for her.
