This year's duels had been rather. . . disappointing, in Mason's eyes. Mostly cause A.) No-show-Spades and B.) Losing. The latter being something that the Slytherin could not abide to.
So hopefully Snog-bird would be her light and the end of this super-awful-tunnel. If he was as good at Duelling as he was at making love-potions, Mason would have this in the bag. She knew that Hirsh had a soft-spot for Snog-bird, but she doubted that that would matter here.
Her usual strut was gone this time round, cause she had failed, and only winners were allowed to strut. So casual-walking it was, her signature-smirk still fully intact as she greeted Hirsh. "Professor Hawt-Hirsh." And said-smirk only grew as she faced her opponent, bowing her head at him. "Snog-bird."
Turning away from him and walking towards her spot in the arena, Mason sent a quick salute to her fellow Slytherin before drawing her wand from her robe-pocket. "You ready?"
He better be, or else he'd be toast after the first few spells. The first of those being a quick Bat-Bogey Hex (which would serve as a distraction) for her next spell. "Expelliarmus!" which was also followed closely with: "Everte Statum!"
Mason let out a small huff and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. Let's see him block all of that.

Jaemin didn't even want to be here. He hadn't stood a chance in any of the duels he'd had since the very first one last term with Haddie; either he'd been woefully outmatched by people who could do magic much stronger and faster than he could, or they just flat out hadn't bothered to show up at all. The latter he assumed was due to the fact that they knew that he was woefully outmatched and were sparing him the embarrassment of the duel. The former hadn't improved at all and showed no signs of doing so. Everyone else seemed to be getting better exponentially, while Jaemin... well, casting three spells in a row was still a challenge for him. So when Mason did it, without so much as blinking, the thirteen year old did the only thing that he could really do at that moment.
A half-hearted shield went up to block the first one, and the second one grazed by him when he stepped to the side. The third hit him dead on, and sent the small boy flying backward, right off the platform and down onto the floor. Where he stayed, in a small heap, staring up at the ceiling and trying to breathe.

Mason couldn't even feel slightly good about what she had just done. Sure her spells had worked, but Snog-bird wasn't even totally into this, meaning that her small victory wasn't even a victory. . .
UGHHHHH
Stomping towards the other side of the arena, Mason jumped gracefully down from said platform and came up next to where Snog-bird lay. Are you kidding me? -_____-
Was he seriously just gonna stay down? As if their Duel wasn't important, which FYI Snog-bird, it was!
Prodding him slightly with her foot, her nose scrunched up, Mason concluded that this peasant was CLEARLY injured or something. That or he just thought he was too good for this. . . the latter only served to infuriate her more. Retracting her foot from his peasantrish-body, Mason whipped around and look up at the arena to where his Hawtness stood, gesturing with her wand to where the heap lay. "Professor, I think I broke this peasant." she said with a roll of her eyes. Either that or he was just really weak. . .
He was just trying to catch his breath, which had been knocked out of him when he'd hit the floor, and make his head stop feeling all spinny from the sudden change in posture and viewpoint. The small boy blinked rapidly a few times, drawing a half-breath and trying to decide if he was ready to move; he was almost sure he was when Mason appeared over him, and her toe nudged at his side. Why was she here? She was supposed to be on the other end of the platform. There was no reason for her to be standing over him, because the duel wasn't over, even if he hadn't gotten up.
The nudging with her toe, coupled with her inexplicably calling him a peasant, made his skin prickle with annoyance. So, since the duel wasn't over, and since she was so insistent on being annoying and rude, Jaemin raised his wand arm up and pointed at her, quietly casting "Slugulus Eructo" right at her.
Now he would move. Now. The winded boy rolled to his feet and stumbled away, putting space between them. No more toe-poking, thank you very much.

.......... Song-bird?!
Hirsch shot Miss Stevens a thoroughly confused look. Of all the nicknames to be passed back and forth between students, this had to be one of the weirdest. It made the man wonder if there was another connection to it all: if there was something he was missing. But then again, did he want to know in the first place?
Probably not.
So, he was going to concentrate on the du-
...............
NO!
See, this? This was probably why you shouldn't get attached as a Professor. No sooner had Jaemin fell that Hirsch started to move forward to help and had to remind himself of the setting. It was only a duel. Any injuries - and there'd better not be - could be tended to after the duel was done. Which, one glance at his watch told him that there wasn't long to go. In fact, Jaemin hardly had a chance of casting his slug curse when.......
.......... there went the shield.
"That's all, I'm afraid," the man said, stepping out of the shadows and over towards the pair, "Well done, both of you. Really. But there can only be one winner and," Here came the hard part. "You've taken the lead on this one, Miss Stevens. Congratulations." Tough luck, Jaemin.
"Oh, and one last thing. Please don't call people peasants." It wasn't exactly a term of endearment, was it?
