Okay, so Mason wasn't all that impressed with how her duels had been going thus far, since Spades hadn't even shown up to their first one. Which did not sit well with the Slytherin at all, since she had a goal to reach in Duelling Club, and in order to reach that goal she needed good points. Non only had her partner not showed up, but not Hawt-Hirsh was pitting her against Hadley.

Sure the girl had ended last the previous year, but that didn't stop Mason's stomach from flipping when she saw who she was duelling. Stepping into the arena, her usual confidence faked to the extreme, Mason shot Hirsh a little glare before turning her attention to the red-haired Hadley (which Mason was still wasn't fond of). She knew that her friend was good at this, but Mason knew that she was just as good. She had been seventh for Merlin's sake! She shouldn't be this nervous, she was too awesome to be this nervous. Girl, you got this.

Okay, let's do this. Smiling slightly, Mason gave her friend opponent a little bow, "You ready, Denaker?" she asked the Ravenclaw with a small smirk, "No passing out on me, yeah?" Cause where was the fun in that?

Stepping back from her opponent, Mason returned to her spot, hand ready on her wand-holster. She silently wondered which spell to start of with, racking her memory to try and find the perfect on-

Bigno. Since Mason wasn't that fond of the hair. . . why not just let it fall out?

With a smirk, Mason pulled out her wand and shot the first spell near Hadley (but not near enough to actually hurt either of them), which was the Cracker Jinx. This was just a distraction, however, for her next spell:

"Calavrio!"

Hadley came rushing in, panting and out of breath. "Sorry! I was in detention." Setting down her bag next to Sir Knight, Hadley made her way onto the dueling stage and took a moment to catch her breath.

"Ready," she announced, and bowed to Mason before sticking out her tongue. Leave it to Mason to bring up the time she was stupefied. Just for that, Mason was going down.

Merlin-in-Mustard! Mason was fast. "Protego!" Hadley cast the spell just a hair too late. The air exploded around her, slamming into her and sending her skidding backwards.

The late casting however did have one benefit. It blocked the second spell Mason had cast and sent it hurling back toward its caster. Serves her right. What was everyone's obsession with removing Hadley's hair every duel!?

She immediately followed it up with a spell of her own. "Colloshoo!" And one more for good measure: "Expelliarmus!" Let's see Mason block all of those.

She patted out a little bit of flame smoldering on her shoulder.

Mason rolled her eyes a little when Hadley mentioned that she had been in detention. Typical Hads. Whatever it was that Hadley had done, she'd have to ask her about it later, since right now she needed to kick the Ravenclaw's butt.

With a little woot, Mason looked on as her first spell hit her opponent, her smirk reappearing. There might actually be a shot at her winning this thing. The thought disappeared in an instant when Mason saw that Hadley was sending Calavario back to HER. Dropping to the floor as fast as she could, cursing under her breath, she felt the spell flying over her precious hair.

With an aggravated huff, Mason shot to her feet and glared at Hadley. Was she crazy? The Snake actually cared for her hair. She was about to give the other girl a piece of her mind, when she saw said girl casting her own spell- One that Mason was WAY too late in stopping. . . and the price was her feet being stuck to the fricken ground. . .

-______-

It's on.

Blocking Hadley's Expelliarmus, with a quick "Protego!", Mason raised her wand again and sent a rather forceful Everte Statum Hadley's way, along with the rather disgusting- "Furnunculus!"

There, that should keep her distracted for a second. Now to get these damn shoes loose from the floor. Pointing her wand down at said shoes and saying the incantation, "Finite." Mason lifted her right foot gingerly before determining that the spell had indeed worked.

SPOILER!!: Ze stats

◦Additional Effects: MUST be directed at one spell at a time (one Finite for EACH spell desired to be cancelled). Will not cancel everything in the vicinity of the caster. (Finite MUST be cast on EACH spell to cancel them. The exception is spells that combine into ONE big spell: like Oppugo and Avis combine into attacking birds. ONE finite would be required to get rid of the attacking and the birds. If it was say, Rope and Ice, however, these are two separate spells that would need separate Finite's to cancel)

"Protego!" The shield went up just in time to block the knock-back jinx. But that wasn't all Mason sent her way. Furnunculus.

Hadley moved to dodge the curse but a bit too late. It hit her square in the shoulder and a painful stinging spread down her left arm and up her neck. Large, painful welts and boils began to appear as her skin reddened. Cringing, Hadley raised her wand and aimed it at her shoulder. "Finite!"

Instant relief. The boils and welts subsided and the redness faded to a rosy pink, but there was no more pain.

Hadley recovered quickly, aiming her wand at Mason. She knew her friends weakness and would continue to target that. Hadley cast the Fur Spell at Mason, slightly smirking at the mental image of Mason looking like the wolfman. She followed this up immediately with, "Slugulus Eructo!"

The mental image of Mason vomiting up slugs wasn't quite as amusing, but she knew how effective it would be if it hit.

So, er, what was that look for?!

Hirsch raised an eyebrow at Miss Stevens but said nothing. Was there a reason for this? Had there been some sort of enmity between the two that he wasn't aware of? Because if so, tell him now before the duel was underway so that he could make precautions. Not that the two could harm each other, really, but you never know, right?

And why had Haddie been in detention? What?!

He gave the girl a curious look as she deposited her stuff and then went on to start the duel. Lucky, really, because any later and she might have missed her chance. Hirsch had hoped, more than anything else, that this duel was one that would really bring out Miss Stevens's duelling skills. She hadn't had much of an opportunity, given that her previous duelling partner hadn't even turned up, so he was putting it on Haddie to bring it out in the Slytherin.

And that's exactly what happened.

A smile flitted across the man's face as he watched the two, not even slightly worried about any kind of harm that could happen. He'd been silly to consider it, really. This was a safe duel, but still an interesting duel. One that he enjoyed watching very much.

And then it all came to an end.

The barrier went up and Hirsch came out of the shadows, taking Haddie's bag along with him. "Well done, both of you. And well done on getting through this duel, Miss Stevens." Because she hadn't had the opportunity before, had she? "You've done well but, Haddie, you've taken the title this time round. Congratulations!"
