Emjay/Professor Finch! With the lessons she had been receiving in magical portrait painting and a summer full of doodling creatures and forests Hady had gotten a fair amount of practice. Being back at Hogwarts though was a little tougher now that she had lessons once again as well as homework and other activities to fit in. So far she was trying to manage it all. Hady had meant to swing by Professor Finch's office and ask about their painting sessions but somehow the girl had ended up here instead. It had been sometime since she had been in here. Now that she was learning more about what it took to paint these portraits her appreciation for them had grown ten fold. As it was she was standing before one of the paintings studying the colors and detailing. It couldn't hurt to get to know one of two of the people inside the portraits either if they wanted to talk to her. |

He was actually having a rather productive day today though, all things considered, and he had even managed to check out a few books from the library that he thought could provide inspiration for future lessons. While he looked through one of the books, a certain passage reminded him of Artemesia and he thought of checking in on her. Ansley always had a soft spot for the first portrait he had painted and he was happy to have found a more permanent place for her. But she hadn't been in her frame the last time he was in the gallery before classes began. Carrying his stack of books, he decided to stop into the gallery before heading to his office. And he saw that he was not alone. "Hadleigh," he smiled giving her an acknowledging nod as he stepped further into the room and came up behind her. "Was there anything in here I could help you with or did you just come in to look around?" He did set up the place for students and staff to explore artifacts on their own, but if she had any questions he'd be happy to answer them. Otherwise, he was just making conversation. |

Stepping to the left and eying one of the portraits Hadleigh jumped slightly when someone spoke to her. At first she hadn't been sure if it had been a portrait or someone else but a small turn of her head to look where the voice had come from gave her the answer. "Hello Professor," she greeted warmly with a light smile. "Oh no, I don't think so. Not yet anyhow I'm just looking around." Only looking. Not disturbing anything! She was reminded that she had wanted to ask the man something. Turning around to face the professor and tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear as she looked up at him. "Professor, I was wondering if you still had time to continued our portrait painting lessons this term?" She had been practicing all summer long every chance she got! |

Ansley's eyes wandered over to Artemesia's frame. Hmm. Still wasn't there. That wasn't too troubling yet, but he did wonder where she might be. His eyes snapped back to Hadleigh again as she spoke. "Oh, yes," he nodded. "I was actually going to ask you if you were still interested in continuing. I am if you are. And I think you acquired a pretty decent foundation last term, we can probably move on to more advanced skills if you'd like." It was a little more difficult, but he found her to grasp onto concepts pretty quickly that he had confidence that she could handle it. |

When Ansley said he would like to continue and thought she was ready to move on with more advanced things the girl beamed. "Yes Sir, I would. I've been sketching a lot overy the break and doing my best to paint whenever I can as well." She had some of the sketches and painting with her to show him as well. "Is Mondays still a good day?" Best to get her days straightened out quickly. |

He smiled more as Hadleigh said that she would like to continue their painting sessions. He enjoyed teaching that and was glad that she enjoyed it. "Oh, I'm glad to hear that. Any bit of practice you can get will surely help." He was eager to see what kind of progress she'd made and how far she could get this term. "Mondays, same time, works for me... how about you?" He could probably rearrange things if she needed with her schedule, but that would work for him if it did her. |

Mondays at the same time. Perfect. "It works perfectly for me." And just to make sure she pulled out a small parchment from the pocket of her robes and looked it over. It happened to be her small calendar on which she kept different reminders. "Yes, yes Mondays are good." Pulling out a quill as well from her pocket she quickly made note of the day and time. It was set now. "When I come on Monday shall I bring my sketches and things from the summer?" So he could see how she was doing and what she needed to work on still. |

His eyes drifted to one of the portrait frames, squinting a bit to see that it was still empty. "Have you been in here a while, Hadleigh? Did you notice if Miss Timms was in her portrait before I got here?" Surely she remembered her from class last term? It was still a bit concerning that he hadn't yet seen her. |
There was nothing at all wrong with learning what others had to offer. It's how babies learned by watching those around them and trying it themselves. "There is," she agreed readily with a firm nod of her head. Probably one reason why she got herself into so many different things. Hady smiled. "I'll bring them on Monday then to show you." It wasn't to much as she had been incredibly busy of the summer but what she had managed weren't to bad honestly. Anything he could offer her on those would be a large help. Life studies? A-a friend? "What do you mean Sir, what friend?" Cue pure confusion right about now. Why would one of her friends come to the portrait painting sessions? Seeing Ansley shift his attention towards one of the other portraits Hady looked that way as well to see who he was looking at. The frame was empty however leaving her unsure of whom had been there for several seconds as she went through those portraits she knew. Before she could figure it out a name was spoken to her. Ohhh! The women he had painted himself! Of course! "Only a few minutes before you arrived Sir. And no I'm sorry but I haven't seen her, shall I keep an eye out for her?" Was she missing?! |
Quote:
Hmm. So Hadleigh hadn't seen Artemesia either. Though it sounded that she hadn't been there all that long anyway to really see. "Oh, alright, I was just wondering... I hadn't seen her since school started and I was just a little concerned. Last year was her first year at Hogwarts.." It probably wasn't anything though, but she was a little important to him. Not only had he painted her himself, but she was the first magical portrait he had ever painted. "Sure, if you wouldn't mind... I'm sure it's nothing, I was just wondering how she's been faring here." |
Quote:
Hmm, that was odd then, no? "Maybe she's made a few friends she likes speaking with or she's exploring her new home?" Hady offered with a small thoughtful smile. The portraits spoke with one another she knew that much but she didn't know how often. "I'm sure she's alright and will return to her own frame soon but I will keep my eyes open for her just in case." It couldn't hurt and with all the running around she did for lessons and different training as well as practices chances were decent she might spot her somewhere. |

Ansley shrugged and nodded. He knew it was likely no big deal, but since they were here talking about portraits and hers was empty, he thought he'd mention it. "I'm sure that's all it is. It's just that before I brought her here, she just hung in my studio and there were not many other portraits around, at least not permanently. And none that she could go visit. But maybe she'd having fun exploring." He laughed a bit realizing how ridiculous he probably sounded being concerned over a portrait. But she was rather important to him. |
Quote:
Hadleigh didn't know the portrait well if really much at all but if the women had a chance to get to know the other portraits she would be silly not to. It must getting boring hanging around in just one single frame all the time. "Professor, can all magical portraits move about to other frames just so their in the same place?" Like the castle or a home for instance. "Is it best to give them their own frame or would say a couple like husband and wife rather be kept together?" Very curious question right there. |
Quote:
"Well, I'm sure a husband and wife would like to be kept together," he said after a moment's thought. "Though a portrait can move from frame to frame, they typically think of their own frame as their home. And they tend to only move to other frames within the same location, though sometimes they go to other paintings of themselves located elsewhere." Did that make sense? Sometimes the limitations got a little tricky with portraits. |
Quote:
Ah, this was very good to know. It was exactly the type of answer she had wanted and would serve her well when she was ready to paint her first portrait someday. "Thank you Sir, I'll certainly be keeping that in mind." Along with everything else he had already told her about portraits. It was all important and would serve her well when it came time to figure out what she was going to do. Right now it wasn't a big deal though as she still had plenty of time. |
Quote:
"Well, I probably should get these books put away." Even though there weren't too many, his arms were starting to get tired and he didn't want to keep Hadleigh any longer anyway. "I'll see you this Monday then." And also in class of course. "Feel free to look around at the artifacts though." That was what the room was for of course and he did want his students to enjoy it. And with that, he gave her a smile and nodded, and he headed out to his office. |

She planned on looking around for just a little bit longer. Maybe that portrait women would return. If not she could always just check out everything else before making her way to her next lesson. |
