Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

A referee (either Professor Airey or Professor Hirsch) will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
OOC: This duel must be completed by the 4th of July by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.

First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.
Her first reaction upon seeing who she'd be dueling next had been to feel very smug. Like, again, she was officially allowed to hex the other girl. How awesome was that??? But then when she thought about it more, Maggie had also grown a little wary of the situation. It also meant that Nicky was allowed to cast spells at her. Offensive ones.
Not that she doubted her own abilities of course but...that girl was bad news.
In the arena however Maggie managed to keep her face blank, void of any signs of fear or even anxiousness. This was just a day like any other, a duel like any other. Her eyes briefly went over to where she knew the spectators were. Zeke was still there, right? And Hirsch too so it really wasn't like Nicky would be able to seriously hurt her or anything. It was quite comforting to know.
Giving the other girl a nonchalant nod, she then proceeded to bow politely. There were rules after all. Which didn't mean she wasn't ready to immediately cast a defensive spell in case the other girl neglected to follow them. WHO KNEW WITH THIS ONE?! Once she'd gotten the dueling etiquette things over with Maggie immediately cast the first spell. "Everte Statum!" Maybe she could end this before it had even started?

When Nicky saw the posting of the dueling assignments she laughed. And then later in the day, when she thought about it, she laughed again. She'd seen the slug incident in the first round. She was going to enjoy this.
Having entered the arena, Nicky very casually twirled her wand, calling out across the way to Maggie. "I'm surprised you showed," she said, smirking as she prepared to bow. "Or did you not hear about my first duel?" She glanced up, waiting for Maggie to make her move. Of course, Hirsch had given her that little you need to be careful or you'll hurt someone talk, which she assumed was teacher-talk for 'tone it down or you're done.' And while Nicky wanted out of Hogwarts, expulsion for violence hardly seemed the way to get back home. So... she would employ a slightly different strategy this time.
As the first spell rattled toward her, she flicked her wand. "Protego. You know..." she continued to call toward her, casually, as she deflected the spell back toward her opponent, followed by a slight shift in position. "You don't look so good. Are you feeling alright?" She followed with softly whispered, but firmly intended furnunculus curse.

Oh, Maggie HAD heard about her first duel. Hady wasn't just her friend but also her roommate. That didn't mean she'd been SCARED to come here though. Pfft. Scared? You wish. The unimpressed expression she wore clearly suggested as much. "Couldn't think of a reason not to come." Like, Nicky pls. As if. Maybe making out with her BOYFRIEND, something that Nicky did NOT have. But even that wasn't worth giving Nicky the satisfaction of seeing her skip this duel.
No offense, Zeke.
Whoa, and that spell had come back. Luckily she'd been moving already so it only took a little extra jump to get out of the way. Phew that had been a close one. But Maggie tried her best not to let it show. She was totally in control over here. Totally. Always keep moving, right? That was the #1 rule she'd learned so far. This was really easy for her, did she know? Pfft. Like as if she-
Okay, the talking thing was NOT fair.
Maggie might have let out a small shriek in surprise while casting a Shield just in time when another spell was suddenly heading her way. Ugh. RUDE. But...two could play that game, you know. "I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry, the look of disgust isn't permanent." She said, trying to keep Nicky's attention on their conversation while sending a non-verbal Impedimenta at the other girl.
Intent was everything when casting non-verbals, right? And she REALLY wanted to hit Nicky.

Oh, this was going to be fun. Nicky wrinkled her nose at the deflected spell, but was pleased that it had nearly caught the girl off-guard. "Couldn't think of a reason not to come? I guess that head is all hair and no brains, then." Nicky called back, continuing her slow movements around the dueling area. Her eyes kept darting from Maggie's lips to her wrist, hoping to catch the slightest movement of each.
Maggie's attempts at getting under Nicky's skin also had her attention, if only because they were amusing. "Oh, I wasn't talking about your face," she replied, eyes watching Maggie's hand. "It always looks like you just sucked on a rotten egg."
Ah! There it was! Nicky tried to step away from the nonverbal, but it clipped her in the back of the foot, causing her to stumble. As her knees scrapped the ground, she looked up with a glare. "Nice shot. Do you always look so constipated when you think too hard?"
So this was the game they were going to play. Nicky was down for that. Rising, she first cast a verbal featherlight charm on herself, somewhat out of need but also as a diversion. "But what I meant was that you look a little puffy. I heard someone was going around messing with people's potions and I just thought if you were on any regular medication..." She flicked her wrist subtly, casting a non-verbal cantis charm. "Someone messing with it might explain why it looks like you've gained some weight."
Almost as an afterthought, Nicky also sent a verbal calvario toward the girl. Mostly because she thought it would be funny.

Was she trying to insult her? Because it wasn't working. Nope. "I have both. Shame you only got the brains." Sorry not sorry, Nicky. Or Nicole you know. It had said Nicole on the roster. Nicky sounded way to sweet for a girl like that to be honest. Nicole...Nicole you couldn't really say without wrinkling your nose a little. At least that's how Maggie was saying it.

The smirk on her lips was enough to show just how much she was enjoying herself right now. Not even Nicole's halfhearted insults could do anything about that. "Please. Is that all you got? Constipation?" Pfft. That was just lame. She made a point of looking unimpressed when the other girl glared at her but couldn't quite help the smirk either. Not that she was trying too hard to keep it off her face either. Hehe.
The featherlight charm DID distract Maggie for a brief second. What was that about? Her own hand tightened around her wand, anticipating an offensive spell any second. She would've tried to attack too but was worried she wouldn't be able to shield herself in time. So wait she did. She had time. Lots of it. She was still feeling very smug about seeing Nicole on the floor there. Who was currently trying to engage her in conversation again. PLEASE. That had only worked that-
Say what?
The whole looking puffy part had gone over her head initially. Like, Nicole was probably just trying to insult her again. Blablablabla. Seriously? Maggie was BORED. That is until she continued about someone switching up potions? She wasn't serious right? This was part of her plan to distract her right? AND UGH OKAY SHE'D SUCCEEDED TOO! Maggie was hit full on with the other girl's non-verbal spell. Oh, great.
No but seriously that potions thing. Nicole was just messing with her right?
"Shuuuu-" Okay, this singing thing was very annoying. Mostly because she did NOT have a good singing voice. UGH! And now she actually had to focus on doing a non-verbal spell too. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. She tried to put all thoughts of possible implications regarding what Nicole had said out of her mind and focus on casting Finite. Silently. Because apparently singing and spell-casting did not go well together. "Protego!" Just in time Maggie managed to put up her shield for the second spell to lightly bounce off it.
Okay, enough was enough!
"SILENCIO!" Seriously, she'd had enough of this one.

Did she realize that she'd complimented her without meaning to? Nicky smirked to herself, amused by the fact that this girl had pretty much just admitted that she thought Nicky was clever, just with bad hair. It further cemented the girl's opinion that her opponent was all fluff and no substance.
Nicky kept her expression cool as the other girl barely hid her smirk and Nicky took some pleasure int he fact that she'd be wiping it off her fairly quickly. She allowed herself a chuckle as the singing rang out and pouted exaggeratedly when it concluded. "Done so soon? I would have thought your adoring fans would have liked a concert." She kept her wand at the ready in case her shield bounced the spell back. But instead, it fizzled out and Maggie had become so frustrated that she gave away her next spell, making it super easy for Nicky to just side-step.
"Careful. Don't want to get your blood pressure up. If you're.. unwell.. it could be dangerous." She walked her way around the arena as she talked, faking a wand movement every so often just to see if the girl would flinch.
"I totally understand if you want to call it here," she continued, before whispering the incantation for the cornflake skin spell. "I wouldn't want to.. further compromise your health if you're not in the best condition." Having said all she cared to for the moment, Nicky finished with a second spell. Kumquat ears would suit her.

Maggie just GLARED at the other girl when she mentioned their audience and Maggie's singing voice. Very funny. NOT. The random wand movements did make her flinch too but she was calm - haha right – enough not to panic. That wouldn't do her any good and she REALLY wanted to win this duel. Especially now. Seriously, dueling Maddie hadn't been half as stressful as dueling Nicole.
WHO. WON'T. STOP. TALKING.
Somehow she managed to pay enough attention to quickly jump out of the way of the first spell headed her way. "SHUT UP!" As for the second spell, Maggie was too busy yelling and sending her own non-verbal Everte Statum at the other girl to react. Great. Now she couldn't hear Nicole anymore. Which......you know, wasn't all bad.
Seriously though, her words were starting to get to her and Maggie just REALLY wanted to get out of here to make sure there was no truth to them. "Petrificus Totalus!" Hopefully Nicole would be too busy fending off her first spell to react in time for this one. Could this PLEASE be over now?

It was hard to say whether there'd been at time since coming to Hogwarts when Nicky had enjoyed herself more than she was right this moment. Maggie was heated and Nicky... was just softly chuckling to herself, amused by how under the girl's skin she'd gotten. She cast a quick look to where she knew the crowd would be. Had Echo come to watch like he'd said he would?
She'd enjoy rehashing this with him later.
Except that brief moment of cockiness had cost her, and Maggie's irate shouting had concealed the non-verbal from Nicky's notice. Thrown backward, she hit the ground with a thud. That... was going to bruise. Glaring from her position on the ground, she did, however, manage to roll out of the way of the body-bind. As she pushed herself up, she allowed herself a smirk. The girl's ears were kumquats. Did she know how ridiculous she looked? But, enough messing around.
Not bothering to brush herself off, Nicky narrowed her eyes. If the girl couldn't hear, then she couldn't know what was coming. Perhaps there was time for a little... deception.
"I could say whatever I wanted to everyone watching and you'd never know if what they told you was actually what they heard." She spoke almost.. choppily, randomly gesturing with her wand. If the girl was as unfocused as Nicky thought her to be, she might mistake the overly exaggerated speech and movement as incoming spells and miss the actual one. But then it was time to pull out a trick from back home.
Holding her wand up at an angle that looked like it would hit nowhere near her opponent, Nicky cast the arrow-shooting spell, sending the arrows up into the air where they would then rain down on the area where Maggie stood. There was enough plausible deniability, should Hirsch question her, that she was merely doing it as a distraction and had no intent on hitting the girl.
That might be mostly true.
But it might be harder to convince him of that if the next spell hit, too.

The moment of smugness she felt when Nicole hit the floor was short-lived. Like, the whole not hearing thing sounded REALLY nice in theory because then she didn't have to listen to the other girl's insults and insinuations. But also she couldn't HEAR Nicole, you know. Which was quite the drawback in a duel where you had to prepare for and anticipate incoming spells.
Ugh.
Blue eyes flicking back and forth between Nicole's lips and wand Maggie tried to figure out just what the other girl was saying. Was it a spell? Was she...ugh...what was she saying? The annoying thing was that now she'd missed her chance of reversing the spell effects. Like, what if she was busy casting Finite when Nicole finally DID attack her? UGH. Okay. No. Shh.
You can do this, Magdalena.
Maggie kept moving, eyes never leaving the other girl. "You know I can't hear you." She said, making it sound like that was a good thing. It totally WAS. Silence was so much better than-
Oh no. What was she doing now?!
While she had been eyeing Nicole's wand and wandering just what on Earth she was aiming at (like, was she trying to blow up the ceiling?!?!??!), Maggie had unfortunately only realized just what was happening when it was too late. OUCH! Two arrows scraped her arm before she had the presence of mind to get out of the way.
ONLY SHE COULDN'T!
She could feel one arrow lightly touching her cheek. Her eyes widened slightly but she somehow managed to cast "Protego!" nonetheless. WHAT EVEN?!!? At least now the rest of the arrows couldn't get to her anymore.

Best. duel. ever. Nicky laughed as Maggie called out to her. Obviously she couldn't hear. And that was the whole point. Couldn't hear, couldn't move... Nicky smiled to herself as her opponent made no offensive move, only managing to defend. Perhaps it was time to deprive her of sight as well.
"Obscuro," she spoke, clearly and directly, focusing all her attention hitting true. She figured that after all the deception, Maggie might not be expecting a direct shot. Nicky was feeling quite satisfied, but her desire to provide as much embarrassment as possible was quite strong.
As far as she was concerned, this duel was hers. Even if the win was awarded to Maggie (and what a miscarriage of justice that would be) she considered it a victory. Now, she was just having fun. She followed up with a fur spell. Might as well make her look like the hairy little beast Nicky thought her to be.

Fending off the arrows with her shield was hard. So hard in fact that Maggie ended up crouching down to make herself as small as possible. UGH! This was the worst! And while her uniform had managed to keep the arrows from seriously hurting her arm, she COULD feel some blood trailing down her cheek from the scratch left by one of the arrows.
UGH! Also, she STILL couldn't hear anything. AND was stuck to the floor.
So really there was nothing for her to-

No way.
She wasn't sure just WHAT did it for her but Nicole's smile definitely was a contributing factor. She was NOT giving up just yet. THIS DUEL WAS NOT OVER! "Protego!" There was a spell headed her way and she wasn't even sure what it was - obviously - but she was NOT giving the Ravenclaw the satisfaction of winning so easily. No. She was NOT going down without a proper fight.
"Finite!" She pointed her wand at her feet, then quickly rolled out of the way before Nicole's second spell could hit her. Phew. That had been close. "EXPELLIARMUS!" She tried to put all her energy into the spell, hoping to catch Nicole off-guard by attacking again.
No. This was NOT over yet.

Watching the girl crouch down to avoid the arrows gave Nicky quite the sense of accomplishment. It would be hard for the girl to fake confidence when she'd essentially curled herself up in a ball. But Nicky's mistake from earlier meant that she kept focus on the girl once she started moving.
Nicky slashed her wand as soon as the first syllable was out of her opponents mouth. "Protego!" She kept her focus on directing the spell right back at Maggie. Let the girl disarm herself.
Not content with just this possibility, however, Nicky pointed her wand toward the ground. "Serpensortia," she muttered as the snake materialized on the ground between them. As it began to slither in Maggie'd direction, Nicky glanced between the girl and the creature. It could do damage on its own, especially if she provoked it.. but Nicky had specific plans for this serpent.
"Oppugno," she cast at the snake, her vision of the creature curling up Maggie's leg and making it's way further up her body in her mind. She knew the snake wouldn't bother to strike at the armor, traveling, instead, to the few bits of exposed flesh.

While Maggie couldn't exactly HEAR the spell being cast, she could tell by the wand movement. As well as the effect. Of course Nicole had shielded herself. That would have been too good to be true, to be honest. But hey, Maggie was inherently optimistic. Or well...not really but sometimes. She had her moments. As for now however there was her own spell coming back at her.
The fact that she was already pretty close to the floor made it easier for her to roll out of the way of the deflected spell.
Okay, what now though?
She didn't have time to get rid of the spell on her ears. No, she was under ATTACK. From a snake. S N A K E. WHERE WAS HIRSCH?!?!? Was he seeing this?! Why was nobody doing anything about this? Why was nobody helping her? Was this actually still within the rules of normal dueling???? Because right now this felt as if she was FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE?!?!?!?!
"Diffindo!" Maggie directed the spell at the snake which was way too close for her liking, while simultaneously trying to crawl away from the creature. And because using her brain for creative solutions was hard under these circumstance she pointed her wand at Nicole next and sent the same spell her way. "Diffindo!" She was aiming for her wand mostly.
Although right now she didn't care if she got the other girl's hand either.

This girl's stubborn refusal to just admit defeat was starting to get annoying. Though, to be fair, Nicky had refrained from any duel ending moves mostly so she could continue to torture the hearing-less girl.
Eyes narrowing as Maggie sliced through her snake, Nicky started to take a few steps toward the girl. She misjudged the directionality of the second diffindo as she raised her wand, the spell cutting her sleeve. Her skin stung where the spell clipped her and she could feel the blood drip down her arm. That was it.
She turned toward the area she imagined Hirsch to be. "And I'm the one who needs to be more careful?" He was seeing this, right? The girl had tried to sever her hand. She immediately shot off a trip jinx at the girl, trying to ignore the pain in her arm. Nicky was heated. A litany of curses, magical and profane, ran through her head, and had they not had an audience, her next choice of spell may have been different.
"Incarcerous." Her voice was cold and steady, her mind focused. She wanted these ropes to hurt.

Here was another duel that the man should've probably foreseen as being a bad one. It didn't even start off politely enough, even if the two duellers had bowed to each other. No. There was too much hostility there to be ignored. In fact, Miss Iver seemed to be taking a different approach to throwing her opponent off guard. Words were strong enough, weren't they? Well, they seemed to be doing the trick.
What was this about potions being messed up? And about Miss Traulton looking more puffy?
Despite the fact that she might not be able to see him, he turned to the Slytherin and gave her a questioning look. If Miss Iver was right, the Slytherin might be in trouble. Deep trouble. She shouldn't even be duelling in the first place if she was unwell. There were certain......... circumstances that he could look over. He looked away from the two and his eyes sought out a certain Zeke Browne in the stands. Did he know about this? Hm?
Anyways. Duel. One that was getting worse and worse as it progressed. It should've ended a while back. Before the arrows had started raining down and certainly before the snake had made an appearance. The blood, however, was the last straw. The man paled considerably and rushed forward, casting up the magical shield. It didn't matter what other spells had been cast: the bleeding was all he could concentrate on as he hurried towards the pair, pulling out his wand in the process. "Tergeo," he called, siphoning off the blood which was, at least, something. "Are you okay? Do you need the Hospital Wing?"
And then he turned to Miss Traulton, a worried look on his face. "I know you were under pressure but please be careful with the direction of your spell, okay? Especially that spell." Pause. "Are you hurt? Do you need the Hospital Wing as well?" He didn't mind going with both of them, though, they probably should go at separate times to avoid any other confrontational behaviour.
And here came another pause.
"If...." he started, in a very quiet voice, "if what Miss Iver said is true, know that you can get help, okay?" Even if he was about as clueless about this as he was about shopping.
