Ellery wanted an owl really badly. But she couldn't get one at the present moment because her daddies weren't with her and she had bad decision making or impulse control or something, so that wasn't a thing that was allowed. So instead, she picked out the same owl every time she wrote a letter home - a small, reddish brown one. She named it BB-8, and was currently trying to coax it down with a small grasshopper she found on the ground of the potions classroom. It wasn't successful so far,

Katherine had written a lengthy letter to her parents about how her week had gone, as she had done in the previous weeks. She wasn't happy with the speed of the school owls, but they had to do. She walked to the owlery, but she was not alone there and a girl was... feeding her owl. With a grasshopper.

"Are you - going to feed that?" she asked, clearly disgusted. If she was, Katherine could not promise not to vomit.

Ellery was so startled to hear another voice that she tripped over her own feet and fell straight onto her bum. She stared at the nearest owl. "Did you just speak in English?" She was astonished. A real scientific discovery, right here!!!

Oh. There was a person behind her. She spun around on her butt and faced her. "I'm trying, at least."

Girl pls.

Katherine rolled her eyes to herself while she wasn't looking. That she could even believe for a split second that the owls could speak... No, reading the whole Hogwarts: A History really ought to be the prerequisite.

"I don't think an owl eats a grasshopper," she said, "and anyway, it's gross." Like, ew. How could she even touch that thing?

Ellery scrunched her nose up and looked at the girl. She seemed very…judgmental, so Ellery judged her right back. Fashion sense…actually pretty good. Face-wise…nice. And she had a letter in her hand. Ellery stood up and scooted to the side, so that the girl could fetch her owl.

"I'm pretty sure owls eat bugs. And a grasshopper is most DEFINITELY a bug. An insect, actually, higher classification orthoptera." Might as well impress the girl, after all. "Plus, it was either this or finding a smaller bird, and I didn't want to do that. And it's not gross, it's SCIENCE." Cue smile.

Hold on a second... did this girl really... know science science? Katherine was dumbfounded for a moment, and certainly forgot about the letter in her hand. Her whole demeanour changed then. She could like this girl. She only had one more test.

"I'm sorry," she said with a smile, "I'm Katherine. A first year. Who are you?"

Ellery noted the girl's sudden smile and ignored the fact that it made her want to smile as well. The corners of her mouth twitched for a second, then she swallowed and nodded in greeting.

"I'm Ellery Gwenog Borzekowski-Thomas. I'm a second year, and I'm in Gryffindor." She gestured at her house tie. Gold and red looked good on her, thank goodness.

Haddie nodded as they climbed the stairs to the Owlery. That's how I feel about Wimple. He just gets me, and we're best friends."

As they entered, as if to prove it, a brown boobook owl twisted it's head to the sound of Haddie's voice. It's yellow eyes were wide in stern surprise. The owl's head twisted up slightly so that his doofy expression now looked like surprised happiness. With a happy hoot that matched his expression well, the owl took off from his perch and swooped down to great the blonde Californian.

In theory at least. The first thing the owl did was snatch the plush shark toy out of Haddie's hands and snuggled with it. After a little bit, shark firmly gripped in beak, the owl hopped onto the Ravenclaw's shoulder and greeted her. "This is Wimple," Haddie told Azura. "He loves sharks." As if to prove it, Wimple snuggled his shark again, all the while with that doofy happy expression as Haddie scratched his head.

Katherine missed the twitch, for her eyes were busy looking at her clothes involuntarily, like you just did when you met someone new.

"Nice to meet you." She'd forgotten to mention her own house. "I'm in Ravenclaw. We share the same floor." Heh. Though her robes showed the noble colours of blue and brown too.

"Have you read Hogwarts: A History?" This was the test the girl had to pass to become her friend.

Ellery blinked and nodded at the girl's - Katherine's - reply. "Ravenclaw, hm? You know David?" To be honest, that was one of the only people she knew in that house. Or WAIT - "Or Josie? She's a seventh year. If you don't know her already, you should meet her. She's AWESOME." Oh, and they did share the same floor. Good to know.

Had she read - oh, this was good. Ellery liked this girl. "Well, of COURSE. I needed to before coming here, otherwise, how else am I supposed to know how many staircases Hogwarts has? By counting them?" Though that didn't sound too bad.

It was Katherine's turn to nod. Of course she knew David. However, she shook her head at this Josie person. She didn't think she could ever meet a seventh year like that (except for Yoongi who was also THE Head Boy). She didn't talk right away not to cut Ellery off. Plus, she really wanted to hear her answer andddddddd...

"Ugh, can we be best friends?" she exclaimed and grinning so widely that her mouth truly almost touched her ears, "I don't know Josie, but I'll meet her if I see her somewhere." Or maybe she could introuce her? DIDN'T MATTER, "But David - I met him a few days ago of course, and he's the son of the former headmistress AND he's read the entire book too, and we decided that it should be a prerequisite for attending Hogwarts." One would marvel at the capacity of her lungs, for she had uttered all with the same breath. She took a deep breath and looked excitedly at her.

They would make the BEST team ever.

Merlin's BEARD. DID KATHERINE REALLY JUST SAY WHAT ELLERY THINKS SHE SAID. asjdlakjd. Ellery wanted to be Katherine's best friend so much it PHYSICALLY pained her. Okay. Calm down, Ellery. Act normal.

"YES THAT WOULD BE AMAZING." Ellery beamed right back at her, smiling so hard it stretched her cheeks out and made her mouth ache. She had a FRIEND. (Not that she didn't have any friends, but it was nice to have BEST friend). "Josie is super sweet. And David seems super awesome - he's like, basically family with one of my dormmates, that's how close they are." They should form a little triad. That would be nice.

She tried not to squeal, but she might've.

So, had Katherine just made a BFF?????!!!!!

She GIGGLED in delight. "Finding the right best friend is SO hard, y'know!" she excitedly went on, "but thankfully, it didn't take me long to find you. Well, great minds pull each other, I guess." She barely knew anything about Ellery, though, but that could be fixed swiftly.

"Josie can be our - protector big sister or something. Yoongi already is mine." She sounded so casual about it, but on the inside, she was still extremely proud of having impressed Yoongi (THE Head Boy!) enough. "And we should find David to offer best friendship now." She looked like she didn't know what to do for a moment. Right - she still had a letter to post! She smiled sheepishly. Having just made a best friend had that effect on people. So she quickly ran to a random owl and quickly tied the letter, offered the cookie she had carefully placed in her pocket as a payment, and once it was off, turned back at Ellery, aka the best friend.

Ellery excitedly grinned back at Katherine. "It took me long enough," she said - it had taken her until now - "But YES! Great minds think alike!" They needed to have…like…a POW WOW. With Olly, obviously.

"Josie can be our adoptive mum." Because Ellery didn't have one of those. "Yoongi the Head BOY!!? Wow!" Super impressed. "We SHOULD find David. Immediately." Yay friends!

"And then you NEED to meet my brother."

This only meant that Ellery couldn't find someone good enough to become BFFs with over the last year, which also meant Hogwarts lacked quality people. Come to think about it... only David, Blaise, Yoongi and now Ellery had impressed her enough. Well, it didn't matter! They had each other now, and they could solve everything together.

She nodded vigorously. She didn't know this Josie person, but she did sound cool. And - Ellery had a brother!? "I should!" she exclaimed. She bet he was as cool as her. She could see it now: they would be a great trio!

"Let's go, then." And she left with the new BFF.

Azura smiled warmly at Haddie as she spoke. "Now I really want to meet this owl." She said as the gained the Owlry, and as soon as they did a very pretty brown turned to attention and started to swoop towards Haddie!

"Wow, he's so very pretty." The purple eyed Ravenclaw said as she giggled a little as he took the shark and then finally greeted Haddie. "it's very nice to meet you Wimple." She said as she smiled warmly at the owl before she looked around and then she heard a little squeak above her and Azura laughed a little as her little white snowy owl Landed on her shoulder and nuzzled it's head into hers..

"Hey you." She said with a smile as she reached up to pet Snowy's head.. "Haddie meet Snowy. Snowy.. Haddie."

Haddie smiled at Snowy. "He...?" She asked, not sure of Snowy's gender. Haddie hated referring to animals or anything really as it. "He's gorgeous." She reached out and petted Snowy the owl's head. He was so soft and-- "OW!"

Wimple sank his beak into Haddie's ear and glared at her, before turning his back on her, beak up in the air haughtily. Haddie stared flatly at the back of her owl. He was still perched on her shoulder, so it wasn't easy for her to do, but she somehow managed. "Hey! You jerk, don't be like that." Wimple turned his head around to look at her, briefly, than snapped his head back in offense. "You're still the only owl for me, you little dummy."

Wimple relaxed a little but made a last exaggerated show of disdain before turning back around and shuffling over to nuzzle Haddie's cheek apologetically. "Uh-huh. Now you behave, or no beetles for you." She shook the container of beetles to punctuate her threat. Wimple's head shrunk into his body sheepishly. His talons tightened on the shark toy and pulled it closer protectively.

Haddie gave a pointed look to her owl and reached back over to pet Snowy on the head. "It's lovely to meet you, Snowy."

Azura nodded. "Mmm, a he." She said as she looked up at Snowy and smiled warmly at him. "He is isn't he? As soon as I saw him in the owl shoppe, I fell in love and thankfully, he felt the same way." She laughed a little as the girls owl seemed slightly upset at the affection

She tried to hide her giggles as she looked at Wimple.. "You are pretty too!" She said as she tried to compliment the owl.. "Snowy's mine you see." She tried to explain.. but all she got was the owl's back...

All the while, Snowy was sitting calmly on her shoulder and nuzzling it's head into her ear..

He hooted softly at Haddie as she petted him and Azure smiled..

"He likes you!

Haddie shook her head, but smiled. "Save your breath. Wimple knows Snowy is your owl and that I won't be replacing him, he's just being possessive of me. Isn't that right?" In reply Wimple seemed to be suddenly fixated on the wooden beams of the ceiling. If he could whistle, he'd be doing so. Haddie rolled her eyes and found a seat. "I didn't pick Wimple out. He was a birthday gift from my neighbor last year. They picked him out because he reminded them of me apparently," she almost seemed proud of that. "But we had an instant connection." She watched Wimple pretend he wasn't paying attention lovingly for a minute.

Then she unscrewed the lid on the beetles and took one out. Wimple's head snapped around to watch. He scooted closer to Haddie and nuzzled her cheek before taking the offered beetle eagerly. Haddie took out a second beetle and offered it to Azzy. "Would Snowy like one?"

Azura smiled at Haddie and Wimple, they were adorable really. Snowy was ever so contentedly sitting on her shoulder and nuzzling her ear every once in awhile. He was a happy quiet owl, much like his owner.

"That's adorable.. He's so cute. Really." Azura said with a warm smile as she looked at the two of them, the little owl had such the personality!!

Azura made a bit of a face as Haddie took out a beetle and offered it to her! "Oh well, I'm sure he would love one." The little Ravenclaw gingerly took a hold of a leg, "Hey Snow.. She barely had to get to words out, as Snowy almost instantly hopped down to her arm and took the beetle for her!

She sighed in relief as he moved back up to her shoulder and she could hear him crunching happily..

"Say thank you." Azura instructed to which Snowy lifted his wings a bit..

Azura giggled.. "He'll give you a more proper thanks when he's done eating." He was very into his food!

Haddie grinned as she watched Snowy attack the beetle. "I think he likes it," she said, screwing the lid back on the beetle jar. Wimple gave a hoot of protest and shuffled closer to the jar, until he noticed Haddie's warning look. She scratched his head as she set down the jar. Wimple leaned into the scratching, enjoying it but his eyes never left the jar. That is until he felt something pressing against his stomach. The owl looked down at the plush shark Haddie was lightly ramming into him, as if it were attacking and hooted in excitement. He reared back like some old movie monster and attacked the shark back, biting at it and shaking it with the utmost enjoyment.

"So are you gonna write your parents to find out if you're a fairy or not?" She was dying to know, probably as much as Azura was.

Azura grinned a bit.. "I think you are right." She said as she looked up at her owl who was making quite the mess on her shoulder, but she didn't care really.. She didn't hang out with Snowy enough and she was glad for this time with him!

She giggled as she looked over at Haddie and Wimple, that owl really did love his shark! It was adorable to watch really.

"Of course I am going to write to them! You have me super curious as well! As soon as we get back to the dorms, i'm going to draft up a letter and hope I can get to the bottom of this mystery." She said with a nod.

What if she WAS part Fairy? That would be SOOOO cool!

"Cool." Haddie smiled warmly at the other Ravenclaw firstie. "You'll let me know if you find out right?" She continued to play with Wimple for a bit longer, then took out another beetle. The owl eager scarfed it down and watched intently as Haddie passed another to Azura to give to Snowy. Once the lid was on the jar again, she scratched Wimple under his beak. He hooted contently. "Okay Fluffypants McGee. Time for us to get back to the Ravenclaw tower."

The owl hooted in protest, stretching and folding his wings in mild agitation so it looked like he was gesturing wildly in argument. "Ah!" Haddie warned. Wimple quieted immediately but glanced downward in a way that gave the owl the air of a pouty child trying to lay it on real thick to get their parents to cave. Haddie, however, had mastered that trick when she was two, and was immune to it. "You know I'll be back soon, ya big doofy." Wimple gave it one last shot, doubling down on the pouty child expression, but when he saw it wasn't working he gave up and gave her a goodbye nuzzle. Then he stretched out his wings and took flight, fading back into the throngs of owls perched up there.

"I'm heading back. You coming or staying a bit longer?"
