Welcome to your first duel!
This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Jinx Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.
Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

A referee (either Professor Airey or Professor Hirsch) will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 24th of February by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me about them or posting them in the Dueling Club Rules thread. If you don't think you can post during that time or you don't think you can start/finish your duel, please let me know as soon as possible and we'll try and work something out.
Remember to keep a track of your points both in the title of your post (before any spells have been cast) and at the end of the post (after your charrie has cast a spell). Please refer to this post if you're confused as to how this works or, simply, come to me. Include as much information as you can about the spell in the spoiler section at the bottom of your post, including the directionality of the spell.
Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.
First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.

Kitty, yes, Kitty. His duel was with Kitty. Hmmmm. Davie was unsure how to proceed here. Usually, he was friends with the person he was dueling. Usually. He KNEW who Kitty was in this instance, but he did not know what to do with her. Was she friends with Haddie more, or friends with Rachel more? Did it matter? Was he overanalyzing, or just analyzing? Should he be bowing by now and getting on with things, or should he take his glasses off and clean them just one more time before bowing?
Davie went ahead and bowed to his partner, marched the correct paces away, and then turned on his heel to quickly cast. But instead of casting against Kitty, he first cast the feather-light charm on himself (Charlotte Kettleburn-style, duhhh). Then, to keep Kitty distracted, he followed-up with one of his best spells, the easy old standby Rictusempra, his aim sure and true for her.

Kitty entered the dueling ring feeling very nervous about what was up ahead. Physical activities where you could get hurt were not really her thing - that was why she never played Quidditch. And yet despite all that her mom had ordered her to participate.
David Truebridge was her opponent for the first match. She had never talked to him face to face, and the reason was that she knew he was her friend Haddie's enemy. She did not know why they were enemies, but she did know that Haddie had stopped talking to Rachel when she started hanging out with him. Until now Kitty had done her best to avoid talking to Davie out of fear of getting the same treatment. She hoped he wouldn't hold a grudge against her for that.
Kitty bowed nervously and watched Davie as he performed a spell on himself, uncertain of what she should be doing herself. This was after all her first time dueling and she only knew three spells. "AHH!!" Kitty screamed and tried to duck as he fired Rictusempra at her, but it was too late. She doubled over laughing hysterically and begging for the invisible tickler to stop. "Stop! Please stop it!" If she hadn't been wearing so much pale face paint her face would have been red from laughing by now. She placed her hands over her stomach in a futile attempt to stop the tickling, all the while aware of how embarrassing this must look.
At last the spell wore off. Kitty was furious. She snatched her wand from the floor and pointed it at her tormentor. "EXPELLIARMUS!" | |

Well that had worked surprisingly well. Davie blinked a few times, then blushed, as Kitty seemed to be laughing so hard that she had dropped her wand. Did she literally want him to cast the counter-spell on her? Because he could do that, he had done that for Blaise before, and why was he casting on his housemates anyway? Oh nope, she seemed to be fine. She was just... hugging herself? Crying? WAS SHE CRYING OR JUST LAUGHING REALLY HARD?
NOPE.
NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. It was the opposite of crying from laughing. Kitty was now a furious woman; he could tell this from how she SNATCHED her wand off the ground. Even though he was several paces away from her, Davie took a step back in nervousness. A step back and to the side, actually, which proved to be useful as she sent the disarming charm his way. He didn't even wait for the moment to pass before he sent a much calmer return spell.
"Incarcerous," he cast quietly, quite confidently too. He had done this spell before and he knew it worked.

"GAA!!" Kitty screamed in frustration as Davie ducked her spell and sent another spell which wrapped around her middle. It had been too fast for her to duck, just like the tickling spell.
Fortunately Kitty was naturally lithe, and in moments she had wriggled out of the invisible ropes. HA! She pointed her wand at Davie. "Cantis!" Cantis was a spell that she had learned from her mother years ago and she was certain it would work.

Kitty was so very... very VOCAL. Davie wasn't quite sure what to make of her reactions to his spells. Mostly he just stood there, blinking and wincing a little because he never did like tying his classmates up with ropes (except when he did).
Anyway, her second spell was not nearly as easy to avoid. Davie had to actually properly dive to the floor, and even then the spell narrowly missed him. He got up quickly, but couldn't think of what to cast next, so Davie just twisted his wand in his hand and tried to think up a distraction.
"Don't mind my next spell!" He called across the room confidently. "It's waaaAAAAAAaaaaaAAAaAaAaaay cool."
Once he thought of it, that was.

Aww he ducked? That was too bad, Kitty was really looking forward to seeing Davie sing. Still it had ALMOST hit him, which meant that her aim was getting better. He was really fast though, she had to give him credit.
"Okay, I'm going to let you." She wasn't really "letting" him - what she meant was that she wasn't going to cast another spell. Kitty was planning to use Protego next but just in case she took several steps backwards so that she would have more time to duck his next spell.

To be honest, Hirsch was getting confused by this duel. One minute, they had been fighting well and the next, Davie was revealing his plans and Kitty was replying back to his comments with one about letting him hit her with the spell? Just, what?! What was going on here?
Apparently, he wasn't about to find out exactly what it was that the young Ravenclaw boy was about to do because, at that moment, the time had struck and the duel had to come to a close. The magical shield had gone up to indicate the end of the duel before the man stepped out from the shadows. "Well done on putting up such a good fight. Both of you. But a special congratulations goes out to Mr Truebridge for snagging that win." Funny, since the boy was much more keen on learning about dark creatures than dark beings.
