| | |  Astronomy Lesson :: Terraforming [ a brief introduction ]
The sun has long set and the light of the full moon is juxtaposed against the dotted canvas that is the night sky. Although the moon's glow is brilliant, one's eye cannot help but be drawn to a few other luminescent dots in the sky. Are they stars or planets? Only those that know how to distinguish between the two will be able to tell you that answer.
Stepping into the Astronomy classroom, you are hit with what feels like a brick wall of icy cold air that burns your face and causes your teeth to chatter. Rest assured that as cold as it may feel, there is no chance for you to get frostbite or catch a cold. As you make your way towards the semicircle of desks - the usual formation for Astronomy lessons to help create a more intimate setting - you may have to battle the occasional dust devil or terrestrial tornado along the way. These are relatively harmless and more of an annoyance than anything else as they carry NO risk of sweeping even the smallest of first years high into the air. Just be sure to hold on to your belongings. The air itself was tainted in unpleasant waves of stench reminiscent of someone setting off a series of dung bombs every few minutes. But perhaps the strangest of all is the manner in which you move about within the classroom. You feel much lighter on your feet and your usual steps cause you to lift higher up into the air than usual. Not too much that you will knock your head against the ceiling, but enough that you could potentially jump double your own height - perhaps even a little bit MORE than that if you really tried.
When you do finally arrive at your desk you find a little souvenir waiting for you. The blackboard, positioned across from the semicircle of desks, has the following instructions written upon it:

The space blanket is yours to use should conditions prove to be too cold for you.
Take out a quill and write your FULL name and year on the piece of parchment provided.
Once you have done so, give it a tap with your wand.
The parchment, enchanted by the professor himself, will turn into a sturdy wood name plaque when you do so. Don’t worry, even the first years and those not skilled with magic will be able to manage this little trick.
Speaking of the professor, you can find him leaning against his desk with his trusty pet rock by his side, his own space blanket utilized in a peculiar but perhaps not unexpected manner and his own head protected by a Bubble Head Charm.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.

His hand slowly came back down to his desk. Was this a trick question? "...Yes?" he questioned, the energy he had before kinda waning. But, whatever. All the new info was starting to take a toll on his head, and even better...
ACTIVITY.
Looking up, it was difficult to not grin at the site of the platforms and what they were supposed to do. Thanking Merlin he thought to also wear shorts under the skirt today, he scooted back his chair as soon as the professor gave the green light to start the game. BRING IT ON!
With a great push of his legs, his feet wiggled in mid air as he flailed to grab one of the white balls from the pile. H'OKAY, this was a little more awkward than he thought it'd be. Nothing he couldn't get used to though.
Succeeding in snatching one of the balls, his feet wiggled some more until they were back on the ground before jogging towards the Gryffindor platform. Pushing off the ground with another great leap, he stuck the ball as steadily as he could upon the surface, instantly turning it red.

Melbourne Johanson was ready. She was born ready. THIS sporty jumping around in low gravity was what she was made for. It was her calling. Watching the houses get ready to grab their balls from the middle she began to slowly and slinkly prepare for battle.
ARCHERS AT THE READY…well, not archers, more like pawns. Giving a look toward Lancelot she nodded her head to the Hufflepuff pile and made a quick running leap and grabbed at it.

Arista listened attentively as Professor Flamsteed introduced the oddly named activity. All though oddly called it sounded like fun and she couldn't wait to get to bouncing. She folded her blanket and stood up. She winked over at Thomas before she dashed over to where the pile in the air was. She jumped up and she was in the air. She almost forgot to reach her hands out and grab a white ball but just before she started to go down the Gryffindor quickly grabbed one.
Coming back down she tried to make sure she was near the Gryffindor platform. Still having some distance to go before she could jump up and place the ball down, the redhead hurried on over the Gryffindor platform in the air. When she was near it she gave a jump and placed it on top as she was 'falling' back down to the ground she watched the ball turn red. Cool.
Before dashing off to grab another ball she looked around the room and watched the other students. This was fun.

Charlotte waved cheerfully at her bestie as the professor grabbed her leg and pulled her back down to her seat, but it wasn't very long until, as it turned out, they would ALL be getting to jump up and BASICALLY fly. Honestly, Char barely listened to all the instructions before she was gung ho, on her feet, and laaaunching herself skyward.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Why WOULD they want to change gravity on Mars or wherever if it was like this? This was GREAT!
She landed again before she'd actually made up her mind to do anything in particular, and on her second (or third, technically) launch into the air, she bent her knees and PUSHED FROM THE GROUND AS HARD AS SHE COULD. THAT WAS HOW YOU JUMPED AWESOMELY, EVERYONE. She was basically HURTLING (not really but it was most fun to pretend like she was) towards the middle platform and the pyramid of balls. She grabbed one with both hands and a loud WHOOP and again bent her knees to THRUST up once she landed, this time in the direction of the Gryffindor platform, where she deposited the ball and cackled gleefully when it changed red.
THIS WAS THE BEST ALL CLASSES SHOULD BE LIKE THIS RAAAAAWRRR!
"CALLUM!" She hollered at her little brother. They needed to KETTLEBURN this whole thing!

Could he stand on the platform? Like, was that legal? Otherwise, it'd be kinda useless for him to continue jumping up towards the platform waiting for... something. In this case, waiting for the Gryffindor girl to make the move. Mental note, find out her name.
Hold up! Readying his feet and in a squat position with hands up, his tongue stuck out as he watched the ball zoom through the air. Got it got it got it GOT IT GOT-
He snatched the ball out of the air, practically smashing it down on the platform, causing it to turn red with the others.

Arista watched as Mel passed the ball to Lance and held her breath if it was her she would totally miss because of the pressure. But thankfully Lance grabbed it and as it was turning red, she let go of her breath.
Now back to the game, she got into jumping position and leaped into the air grabbing another white ball from the platform before dashing off over to the red Gryffindor platform where balls were already piling up. Quickly jumping up once more she placed the white ball up there and watched as it did its transformation over to red.

Esme rolled her eyes as that Gryffindor girl stole the ball she had earned and claimed it for her House. Whatever. The game had just started and they were already resorting to thievery. Pfft.
Giving another leap into the air, she grabbed a white ball. This time she wasn't going to let someone get their hands on it. She was playing for her House.
With another jump, Esme placed the ball on the platform, where it immediately turned yellow. Now how about those Gryffindors take their own balls from the centre and stop stealing? | |

When he started moving around it was then that he really noticed about the gravity difference. "This is soooo cooooool!" he laughed as he did a leap and somersault in the air. "YAY GRYFFINDOR! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWR!" Was Professor Flamsteed paying attention to all of her SPIRIT over here because she was definitely letting her Gryffindor flag fly right now. She also honestly wasn't paying the slightest bit of attention to anyone else though. Not even her own housemates. Nope. TOO BUSY GONNA GET THAT BALL FROM THE PYRAMID. She JuUUUMPED and yelled and closed her eyes as she let out a war cry and reached her hand out... reaaached it out.... reaaaa---but she had MISJUDGED!
In fact: BUTT, she had misjudged! Instead of grabbing one of the white balls from the pyramid her hand made contact with the buttOCK of her housemate. Charlotte opened her eyes in surprise because that did not FEEEEEL like one of the white baa... AAAACK!
She pulled her hand away like she had been STUNG. Or.... or.... INFECTED. AAAAARGH! She flailed and fish-faced and stared in horror at the third year even as gravity lifted her up clear of him and high enough to actually grab a ball this time. THIS WAS SO EMBARRASSING. NOBODY SAW, RIGHT? She hugged the ball and dramatically hid her face behind it, peeking over the top.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. THIS WAS THE WORST CLASS EVER.
EVEN SEEING THAT FIRSTIE DO A SOMERSAULT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO DISTRACT HER FROM THE HORROR!

Esme smiled. She was happy to be able to help her House in whatever way she could.
Hufflepuff didn't usually win competitions, and while that didn't BOTHER her, she wanted to help make it a tight race. The only thing lacking was the numbers; they had perseverance in spades. Momentarily she considered starting a chant for her teammates. How would it go though? Would the Professor approve? Or would he find it disruptive?
Maybe she was better off just grabbing more balls...
Esme made a grab for the first white one that she could get her hands on. This whole practically floating thing wouldn't get old. If only she wasn't so short, but in a way it helped her appreciate it more.
Shrugging the thought off, she made the leap to the Hufflepuff platform. Soon there were two yellow balls in her team's possession. | |

oh oh oh. Games were fun, but... Jaemin looked up at the platforms a bit dubiously. Even with the gravity being all weird, would he be able to reach them? The boy unwrapped himself from his blanket as the professor explained things. Maybe... he'd have to see.
The small boy waited until Flamsteed had signaled that the game was to start, then bent his knees and pushed himself off into the air. Up... up... up... he stretched his arms up like a cat reaching for a bird, managing to get juuuuuust high enough to grab one of the white balls. He clutched it to his chest, blinking in surprise that he had actually reached high enough, and when his feet hit the floor again he was bouncing off to the Slytherin platform.

Throwing his hands in the air (like he just didn't care) in a silent but obvious victory pose, he held it still for a few extra seconds. That was probably THE best steal of the game. Even though it was probably the first steal and there were many more to come, it was still the best.
BUT, there was no time to dwell on victory poses and whatnot, there were still a ton of balls to capture. Feeling good to go to leave the platform, after a quick look around to see if anyone was thinking of stealing, he hopped down to the floor and automatically hopped right back up to the middle platform with perhaps a little too much gusto. Kinda flailing a bit, he half landed on the platform, trying to steady himself-
AND HE STOOD UP STRAIGHT AND TALL.
That. was. his. be. hind.?
His hands squeezed the white ball he managed to obtain as he glanced around to see WHAT HAPPENED WHY. He kinda just... stared... at the second year he presumed was the one that DID THE THING, jaw locked shut and face as red as a tomato. At least he wasn't the only that was horrified from the looks of it.
The beat red lion didn't move for another good few seconds. No one else saw that. For sure. FOR SURE. Right? With less enthusiasm, he hopped on over to the Gryffindor platform, adding yet another ball to their collection.
Might just stay over here for a little bit.

Time to take another leap into the air.
WEEEEEEEEEEE, THIS WAS FUN.
Esme giggled. She wished that she could do this all the time. Maybe she would put springs in her shoes; it wouldn't be the same, but at least she would get some more height. Then she could play basketball even though she wasn't huge on sports. She would much rather wear her tie-dye and peasant skirts while strumming on the guitar. That was what made like worth living.
Grabbing her fourth white ball, Esme made the descent back to earth. It wouldn't last for long though. A moment later she was flying through the air again, placing the ball on her team's platform.

Activity time!
Hady had heard the explanation of the activity and how it was supposed to work. Take a ball from the middle symbol and bring it to her own house symbol. Or take a ball from another players house and pass it to someone in her own house. Rather simple really if one just thought about it.
Glancing upwards at said house symbols one thing was for sure. They were high up. Not high high but still high out of her reach and probably that of many many others. So this was fair so far. As was the whole gravity thing and jumping. Sounded like fun to her really.
Rising to her feet Hadleigh pushed her desk and chair out of the way so it was up against a wall. With everyone already moving about around her it was all a little confusing and she didn't have time to waste figuring out just were in the name of anything good were all the snakes! Oh well then she and whomever else was around could get this done. Light but quick steps felt her feet moving towards the middle and with a push up on her heels she found herself leaping up into the air just high enough to grab herself a white ball from the middle platform.
Having no time to mess about the fifth year just as fast spun on her heel the moment her feet touch floor again and made way for her houses platform. Springing upwards she reached forward and set the ball down onto the Slytherin area watching as it instantly turned green. Yes!

Mel was watching everyone as they ran into the middle. The pyramid was shrinking down and still it was mainly Gryffindor and Hufflepuff in the lead….someone needed to steal that Esme girl’s balls. She was grinning as she saw Lance with his hands in the air and cheering himself and grinned. Giving him a quick thumbs up the short girl ran forward again her body propelling somewhat into the air with each step.
SHE WAS GOING TO WIN THE GAME….well, she wasn’t. Gryffindor was.
Grabbing another white ball from the center of the pyramid…a mistake, the pyramid didn’t look as stable anymore. Okay…now…she could do this. Turning and BOUNDING to near the platform she thrust herself up with as much gusto as she could muster…
TOO MUCH GUSTO way too much gusto. She was sort of floaty-spinning above the platform and NOT in the fun away…after a moment she began to drop and caught the edge of the platform with her hand and carefully placed the ball on the growing pile. The white ball instantly turned crimson as she lowered herself down toward the ground.

Ava listened to the Professor Flamsteed's explanation whether they should move to Mars or not. And yes of course, her opinion was reasonable. Even though Mars was behind the Earth (and that means it's the fourth closest planet from the sun), nobody knew if Mars had the good sunlight too.
And now they'd move on to the activity time!!!
Listening to the explanation about the activity, she couldn't help but smirked. Yes, she was very familiar with this. It's like a basketball and she's really good with that sport. Once it started, The young lioness grabbed the white ball from the middle and dribbled it quickly until she's closed to the Gryffindor platform. She jumped and shot the ball to the platform. SCORE!! She watched the ball turned into red and that means 1 ball to Gryffindor. Come on, Lions! Ava knew that they're gonna win this game. Totally.

Glancing around the room she couldn’t help but notice that STILL there were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many more Gryffindors going all out and stealing and doing all of the things. Gryffindors were gryffindoring in the best way. THEY WERE SHOWING FLAMSTEED HOW AWESOME THEY WERE! Yes, yes they were awesome.
This was an UNDISPUTABLE fact. Shifting and facing the pile again Mel just smirked and watched Hady and Jaemin putting their balls on the slytherin platform…she was going to steal those later. BOTH of those. She was going to steal EVERYTHING later.
“YEAH!” She grinned and gave Ava even though she’d never met her an ecstatic grin. THEY WERE WINNING. Winning. So winning. Dodging to the center pyramid Mel took another of the balls and turning dodged toward the platform again and JUMPED up and threw her ball at the Gryffindor platform.
SHE SHOOTS…she SCORES. Gryffindor was owning this.

Astronomy was not a subject for him, not when it was all about space things and science and WHAT-IF questions. His response hadn't really been appreciated and he decided he longer appreciated giving them... but what he definitely couldn't pass up, was an opportunity to burn off some energy.
A game.
Whatever it was called, he couldn't really remember, but he understood the concept. So when the call was given, Zeke sprung into action (as much as one COULD spring considering the lack of gravity thing). Opting to take from the middle first, Zeke pushed off from the ground as he'd come down and rose enough to get a hand to one of the bludger sized balls... but then coming down enough to push off again was an issue... time... patience... this was a test of patience.
When his feet did meet solid ground, he crouched low to give himself enough of a springboard to reach the Gryffindor platform.... and that he did.
Soaring up at a modest pace, Zeke deposited the ball on the platform, remaining high enough to watch as it moved into position and turned red, ready for the pyramid to be formed.
Neat.

Yes! This was the best part of Sir Suits astro classes. Activity time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once the rules were out of the way and everyone was in action, she tucked George into her bag and stowed the bag at her desk....then jumped up onto her desk.
For Slytherin! She had been waiting to play with the gravity change so this was perfect. She bounced from her desk up to snatch a ball from the middle platform. Yes, that was a start.
She placed her ball onto her own platform then surveyed the field. Whoa, Gryffindors were crazy, look at those little animals go! She better get a move on, especially after the start of the year, she was even more convinced that Gryffindors were bonkers loose cannons. except for Candice | |

Content with taking from the middle, Zeke returned to do just that. There would be plenty of opportunities to do some stealing soon anyway, the game was only just getting started. With Gryffindor finding fine form already, Zeke joined his peers in collecting a ball from the middle and after bracing slightly he jumped in the direction of the Lion's platform, throwing the ball with some precision to the landing.
BAM! Red.
He liked seeing red where these things were concerned.
As if was, this was actually... kinda fun. He might miss the tomfoolery aspect of Astronomy, when he was in fact allowed to drop the subject.

Quickly surveying the surrounding area of the room Hady spotted a fellow snakette standing on her desk to get the job done. Nice work Ilia! At least some of her house had their heads in the game. Which meant it was time to keep keep things moving along.
Even sure footed steps had her rushing towards the middle platform yet again. Pushing herself upwards using her toes Hady easily snatched a ball off the edge of said platform. Before her feet could even hit the floor she was turning her body away and heading towards her own houses platform. Rather then run she jumped flailing her arms and legs through the air like she was running. One more quick bounce and she slammed the white now turned GREEN ball down onto the snakes area watching as it slid itself into place beginning to form their pyramid.
