A referee (Professor Flamsteed or Dakest) will be assigned to your duel and present. They will only interfere if there is need, including foul play, serious injury or unacceptable or illogical use of spells.
OOC: Each duel must be completed by no later than October 24, midnight GMT-6 (OOC). Remember that a duel ends when one dueler has lost ALL magic or ALL health points. Please make duels a minimum of 3 posts each.
These first duels will be a trail run of sorts. The point system for the spells and physical actions was done by thought and hasn't been tested. You all are the guinea pigs. Let me know how it goes If you find that there are be difficulties in the weight of points, please let me know. If there are spells missing you think should be included, please let me know.
If you have questions, please ask. Also, if for some reason you cannot complete or start your duel, please let both me and your partner know. We will work something out.
Remember: duelers MUST keep track of their own points as they go. At the top of their post (in the tag line) they must include their current standing of points, as they are at the BEGINNING of that post. At the bottom of their post, they must include a 'spoiler' tag, including the spells which they've cast (and the directionallity of the spell, so the opponent can easily reference the potential damage to themselves), the spell(s) that have affected them (if any) and their own final Point Standing for that post.

Her first duel. And it had to be against one Miss Maggie Traulton. Of course it did really. It couldn't be against anyone else. Hady knew even though they were both girls, in the same year as well as the same house and dorm mates neither of them would be holding back. She was ready though. So ready. She had worked hard for this and the moment she knew what spells were allowed she made a point of it to practice them all.
So here she was fully dressed in her dueling uniform. All snug and protected hopefully from any serious injury just as she should be. Just to be safe she had even pulled her hair back today into a tight french braid so it would be off her face.
Cypress wand gripped firmly in her hand Hady stood tall before her opponent. "Maggie," she greeted with a small nod of her head. On cue she bowed deeply at the waist her head kept up, hazel eyes locked on the girl across the area. "Tarantallegra!" she cast intently while preforming the proper wand movement. Her plan was to start off strong and remain that way. This was sure to be a good duel.
This was going to be interesting to say the least.
Wearing her dueling uniform (which felt kind of weird to be honest) and having put her hair up so it wouldn't get in the way, Maggie stood opposite her friend. "Hady." While they were sharing a dorm and since rather recently also a sense of friendship, she still didn't expect Hady to go easy on her. Really, where was the fun in that? Maggie wanted to win but she wanted to win fair and square.
When the other girl bowed, she did too, a smirk playing around her lips. Okay let's do th-
Maggie had expected Hady to start the duel almost immediately. Which didn't mean she was 100% ready for that spell coming her way. Luckily she had good reflexes and managed to cast the Shield Charm just in time. Although the force of the spell made her stagger for a moment. Right. Okay.
This was SO on!
Moving her wand and saying the correct incantation for the Cracker Jinx, Maggie quickly retaliated, trying to send the crackers as far away from her as possible. Although that messed with her aim somewhat. Well, either way, they would hopefully – if not physically affect – at least distract Hady a little. Small explosions tended to do that.

Sorry these things weren't outlined clearly before....
1) If you are using non-verbal spells, be be advised that they cost an additional -25 magic points on TOP of the cost of using that spell. Please clarify whether a spell is non-verbal or not.
2) If you cast a spell, or try, and it fails for your character (as in YOU RP it not working) point loss still occurs for the attempt to cast (think of the energy a wizard/witch has to expend trying to do magic)
3)Also, don't worry about putting a point tracker at the top of your post. Please just (in the title of your post, put Health, Magic, and Fatigue points at the START of that post (so whatever they were ending at the last post and BEFORE any spells hit or other spells are cast)....
i.e. Post A ends with 20 Health, 5 Magic and 0 Fatigue --> please title post B with the same. (Just makes for easier point tracking :3)
4) Fatigue points are ONLY depleted if you are doing a physical attack or maneuver to defend against an attack. Duelers can move about freely, jump on the spot and so forth, so long as they aren't actively defending against an attack or doing an offensive attack

The brunette had expected Maggie to shield herself from the spell sent her way and the girl didn't prove her wrong. It simply told Hady that her opponent had decent reflexes which would make this duel all the more interesting. A boring duel just wouldn't do and she knew to expect a fairly equal effort from her fellow snake.
With a pair of hazel eyes trained in on the girl across from her she watched the wand movement that was made. With a small nod to herself she quickly muttered, "Protego" deflecting the spell that had been sent her way back towards Maggie.
Enjoy your little 'light' show Maggie. With any luck the small sparkly explosions would distract her and not end up harming her if they'd come to close. And well if not maybe this would...
"Slugulus Eructo!" Hady cast immediantly after while preforming the required wand movement. It might not have been the nicest of spells and it probably wouldn't taste very nice if it worked but hey this was a duel. And the whole point in a duel was to try her hardest, learn something, and well win.

Which didn't mean that she hadn't HEARD what the other girl had been trying to do to her. SLUGS? Seriously? It didn't get any more gross than that. Ew.
Using the few seconds she'd bought with that smoke spell wisely, Maggie quietly – as quietly as she could – moved closer to Hady, or rather to her side. That was her plan. To surprise her from somewhere she wouldn't expect, once the smoke had cleared. Or WAS cleared.

Well not exactly. She hadn't meant for Maggie to get hit with the cracker jinx. It was more meant to startle her. Thankfully it wasn't bad and it didn't go off by her eyes or something.
What she hadn't planned on was the smoke that appeared around them both from the other girl casting fumos. Crinkling her nose Hady slowly took a few steps backwards as she gripped her wand. Just as she was about to mutter a spell in defense the smoke was gone and she was hitting the ground. HARD. Ouch. If her bottom was bruised she was seriously going to be upset about that later on.
Her legs were stuck together and Maggie was standing right beside her. Sneaky. Very sneaky and good work. It was on now blondie!
Pointing her wand at her own legs she cast a simple, "Finite" to cancel out the Leg-Locker Curse. Her wand then just as fast turned towards her opponent were she preformed the first wand movement that came to mind, "Stupefy!" It probably wasn't strong enough to knock the girl out but enough so to knock her over or backwards being they were still rather close to one another.
The floor was mighty fine Maggie, clearly friends should join friends while they were down. Only Hady didn't intend to stay down as she was back on her feet the second her spells had been cast.

Expelliarmus:Disarms the target (of whatever they are holding) and can be used to knock-back a target if cast forcefully enough

After Blaise Bellaire was knocked-out with a stupefy spell, it has been banned from the club. Reason for this is that the Tournament Duels are supposed to help students practice dueling, and having a K/O isn't the best way to do this. Therefore, Stupefy will be a spell permitted only in practice sessions and Challenges, as per the new point system:

Maggie felt immensely proud of herself for tricking Hady. The floor was nice, wasn't it, Hady? "What's it like down the-"
AAAAAHHH!!!!
Okay, maybe she should've spent LESS time gloating and MORE time actually readying herself for a counter-attack. This was a duel after all. THIS IS SPARTA! And this was Hady too. She should have expected her to retaliate first chance she got. So, long story short, Maggie was way too close to Hady to think that a simple Shield Charm would do the trick. Like, she would just get knocked back anyway. So it a matter of seconds Maggie decided that rolling out of the way was her best option.
....drop, and rooooooll....
Yes. The floor was very nice. Whoa, no way was Hady getting up again! From her position on the floor, Maggie quickly pointed her wand at the other girl's feet and sent a Trip Jinx her way. No, missy, you're staying right here. For good measure and hoping that at least one of the two spells would catch her off guard – or, even better, BOTH – Maggie then followed it up with, "Rictusempra!" So, tripping or giggling, which one will it be?

See what it feels like Maggie! Hady smirked at her opponent rather then answer the question she knew the other girl had been about to ask. Now she knew what the floor felt like!
Whoa! What th-! There wasn't even a chance to fully get to her feet before she heard the spell cast. Seeing as she was this close and a shield charm couldn't be cast so fast Hady was instantly back down on her bum due to the Trip Jinx. OUCH! Surely she would have a bruise now! Thanks a lot Maggie! The view from down here was just lovely.
Before anything else could hit her she quickly cast Rolled out of the way. That was easiest seeing as she was already on the ground. Keeping down low and barely having given herself time to stop moving her wand was aimed at Maggie. "Obscuro!" She cast preforming the correct movement for it quickly following it up with, "Langlock!" Being unable to see or unable to cast a spell. Nice work Hady.

The Trip Jinx might have just earned the title of Maggie's Favorite Jinx. Like, it was FUNNY. Especially when it was successfully used like she'd just done. And the way Hady had just fallen back to the floor HAD been hilarious. Like, she was sure people watching the duel would agree. It had been perfect.
She didn't even care that her second spell hadn't hit Hady.
The smirk that had formed on Maggie's lips soon froze, however, when she saw how quickly Hady had retaliated. Oh no no no no no. The spell was coming. It was coming. Maggie didn't even have time to START casting the Shield Charm. So in the end the spell just hit her right in the face. Or at least that's what it felt like. Of course it didn't HURT but like-

Of course she knew the effects of the spell IN THEORY but to be honest she hadn't really thought that far ahead. So now...now, this was scary. Really really scary. "Protego!" She quickly cast a shield around her when she heard Hady sending another spell her way. Now, okay, no. Hopefully Hady hadn't moved. She had to DISTRACT her somehow.
The feeling of being blind was so scary Maggie didn't move for a full second. Which was a long time in a duel. Eventually she pulled herself together and quickly directed a Steleus spell in the general direction of where she assumed Hady was. Okay. So far so good. Now she could make herself see again. Quickly. While Hady was distracted by the spell. Or like, protecting herself from the spell. Or whatever. Not that Maggie could SEE what was going on!
"FINITE!" There was a hint of panic in her voice as she pointed her wand at her own face. Good. It had worked. There was....Maggie blinked a few times while walking backwards away from Hady, hopefully buying herself some time. It was harder to cast a spell on a moving target after all.

The lady snake hadn't much enjoyed the floor the first time. So when her bum made contact with it for a second time in under probably a minute she was waaayyyyyyy less then satisfied.
Needless to say the very instant she could be up on her feet again she was. By the time she was on her feet she was quietly moving to her right away from where the now 'blinded' Maggie was. Hady took as much advantage of her opponent not being able to see as she could and continued to inch away quickly and quietly without having to dodge anything. It sure felt nice to not be on the cold hard floor anymore. Lucky her.
Or maybe not. She got possibly just a few steps away when she heard what Maggie was sending her way. Raising her wand she quickly cast the shield charm around her, "Protego!" This was surely becoming one of the charms she was using most right now. So far it was proving to be incredibly useful too. Thank you shield charm!
There was no time to let up even if she could hear the slight panic in her Maggie's voice. She'd never had the spell used on her but she knew it's effects. Honestly she couldn't blame the blonde for the panic in her voice, it must have been weird to suddenly not be able to see anything. This was a duel for a reason though and she couldn't spend her time thinking about sure things. Without hesitation and hopefully before the other girl was able to cancel the obscuro spell Hady dropped the shield charm to cast something else, "Levicorpus!" Now it came down to who was faster. Her spell or Maggie's canceling of a spell.

Maggie hadn't even been blind for that long but it still took her a few seconds for her eyes to get used to the light again. Had it been this bright before too? UGH. This was bad. She really didn't have time for this. But as long as she kept moving....maybe she should cast a shield around her just in case. Yes, good plan. She raised her wand and-
But it was too late.
The spell was coming and there was literally nothing she could do to stop it. So a second later she was dangling upside down in the air. Brilliant. Well, good thing they were wearing a dueling uniform and not their regular school uniform. That would have been awkward.
Instead of getting out of her current situation immediately, Maggie sent a glare at Hady. A proper one. She could even SEE the girl properly again which helped with the glaring. "Avis!" Oh, look, Hady, birds. Pretty, huh? "Oppugno!" Look at the pretty birds attacking you now, Hady. Pretty, huh?
Revenge was more important and her spell casting seemed to be working just fine while hanging upside down too.

Her charm had been a success as Maggie was now dangling upside by her ankle in the air. If they weren't in the middle of a heated duel the fourth year may have just laughed at the sight of the blonde upside down in the air, her hair falling about every which way. Only there wasn't anytime to laugh or even think much further ahead.
Suddenly there were birds flying about. Beautifully colored ones at that and for a split second Hady's attention was drawn to them. A split second much to long that is.
For in the time she spent looking at the birds flying around her Maggie had got off another spell aiming those lovely birdies at her in attack mood. Birds were flying at her with the intent to peck at her which they were doing, one even getting it's foot caught up in her hair somehow! How she wasn't sure, her hair was braided! Darn bird!
Her attention being now focused on these birds as she swatted at one with her hand to move it from her face she had lost focus on keeping Maggie in the air. These birds had to go. NOW!
Ouch!
Quite nipping at her you darn flying things!
Backing away and taking aim at the birds with her wand she quickly called out, "Finite!" Before she had a chance to take notice if it the charm had worked (it had) or pay attention to her small injuries from the nips and talons of the birds her wand was already working in the proper movement for her next spell, a Stinging Hex. If it worked it should be a bit of a distraction.

As much as she was feeling smug about catching Hady off-guard with the birds, Maggie had to realize she hadn't quite thought this through. If the other girl got distracted enough to drop the spell Maggie was going to.......................yep. That. Fall. Exactly.
WHY HAD SHE NOT CAST A CUSHIONING SPELL OR SOMETHING BEFORE SENDING THOSE BIRDS TO ATTACK HADY?????
With a shriek Maggie fell from where she'd been dangling in the air. Somehow she managed to not land on her head (or face for that matter). Instead she fell on her side after curling up a little to minimize the impact. "OW!" It hurt. It really hurt. Her arm and shoulder really really really hurt. Hurt so much in fact that it brought tears to her eyes.

She didn't really have time to raise her wand so when she heard Hady sending a spell her way, she just sort of half-rolled out of the way to avoid getting hit. Her. Arm. Really. Hurt. At least it wasn't her wand arm. Maggie pushed herself up a little, trying very hard to ignore the pain. She hadn't tried moving it yet and was going to try avoid doing that at all cost.
All she had to do was win this duel.
"Everte Statum!" It was the first spell that came to her mind for some reason and she tried to put as much energy as she could into it. Once she'd won this duel she could go see what had happened to her arm. It was probably just badly bruised yes. It didn't LOOK broken. But then again, she hadn't moved it yet. "Impedimenta!" In case the first spell hadn't hit, and Maggie DID need some more time to get up anyway.
Slowly Maggie pushed herself upright again and immediately started walking around the room again.
Just keep moving......

Getting attacked by the birds hadn't so much hurt as they had been annoying. It wasn't until she had cast her previous spell at Maggie did she realize that the girl had fallen when she herself had lost focus. She had heard her yell 'Ow' but wasn't entirely sure how the girl had landed or anything like that.
Just as quickly as she had gotten the last spell cast one was being sent her way. Luckily she was able to get up a quick shied just barely in time. "Protego!" The shield went up around her just in time deflecting the spell right back at Maggie. Hady was knocked backwards several steps tripping once as well trying to keep herself on her feet by the second spell however. It didn't work really and she ended up falling down onto one knee. Once again with her falling! Come on now!
She could focus on her knee or anything else for that matter. Maggie was walking and Hady followed the girl with not only her eyes but her wand casting as quickly as she could without messing up the wand movement, "Relashio!" This wasn't aimed at Maggie exactly but more so at her wand. If she dropped her wand that would give Hady a few seconds to come up with her next charm and give more time to move away from the other girl seeing as she was only getting to her feet now.

There were tears running down her cheeks but she wasn't crying. There was literally no need for her to cry. Crying would NOT help her win this duel. Magdalena Natalie Traulton did NOT give up without a fight. Plus, she couldn't even feel her arm and shoulder anymore. That side of her body just felt numb. She wasn't sure if it was because she'd succeeded in just NOT moving her arm or if she just couldn't feel anything anymore.
Either way, she wasn't focusing on that right now!
It was hard to see through the tears though which was only irritating her even more. Could she like Tergeo them out of her eyes? Maggie wasn't about to try but as she was thinking that she totally missed that Hady had managed to deflect her spell. No no no no no-
OUCH!
Maggie stumbled backwards but somehow managed NOT to fall back down to the ground (which was good seeing as she wasn't entirely sure if she had been able to get up again). Okay. Now it hurt again. Ugh. And there was yet another spell coming her way. Seriously, she couldn't catch a break. "Protego!" She was so frustrated and put so much force into the spell that the spell bounced right off and headed back towards Hady.
"Everte Statum!" Seriously, she was out of ideas and only trying to survive here.

Moving.
She had to keep moving. Slowly from side to side. Left to right. Circling the room. It didn't much matter to her which way she was going so long as she wasn't being kept still.
The only thing she had time to notice before her open spell came shooting back at her was the tears streaming down her friends face. Uh-oh. Surely tears weren't a good thing especially not in a duel. And all Hady could think of was that somehow Maggie had gotten hurt and it was her fault. She hadn't meant to hurt the blonde but she had. Maybe she could end this duel quickly somehow and get Maggie up to the healer?
Calling it quits during the duel wasn't going to happen. So she needed to do something. Her own spell came back at her with so much force and speed she couldn't get a shield up. The brunette's wand went flying out of her hand just a split second before the second spell hit her squarely in the chest sending her flying backwards. She crashed down hard on her back hitting the floor hard. The unexpected force of the spell had knocked the wind out of her for a moment and she coughed quietly trying to take in to deep a breath.
Luckily enough for her, her wand wasn't to far away and reaching her hand out she was able to grasp it and pull it firmly back into her hand. Still coughing softly Hady wasted no time in raising her wand and preforming the correct movement, "Cantis!" As the spell headed in Maggie's direction Hady managed to get to her feet blinking a few times to clear her thoughts and get her focus back on the duel.

Maggie didn't even bother wiping the tears off her cheeks. THERE WAS NO TIME! Everything around her didn't matter. All that mattered was her wand, Hady and winning this duel. Her heart was racing and she could literally feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins. Mixed with the exhilaration she felt when BOTH spells actually hit Hady, she felt invincible for a moment.
That is, until she had to jump out of the way to avoid the spell coming her way.
Somehow the movement of jumping – or probably, rather, the LANDING on the ground again – had brought back the feeling in her side. And shoulder area. Maggie gasped. It was bad. It hurt really really REALLY bad. She slowly walked backwards as if she could just sidestep the pain. Obviously that didn't work.
"Ex-" Breathe. Even forming words was hard like this. Maggie closed her eyes briefly before taking a deep breath and trying again. "Expelliarmus!" It was one of the basic spells, one they'd been practicing A LOT this term. It was also probably why it had come to mind right now.
There was no tactic behind her actions anymore.

Getting to her feet wasn't so bad. That was the easy part. Thinking of the bruises, scratches and back pain she was receiving from this duel could be simply dealt with. However the look on Maggie's face was something much different. Maybe it was because they had been relatively good friends over the last few months or perhaps it was the fact that there were house and dorm mates for the last four years. Then again it could be that she meant something to 'her' best friend. Whatever it was Hady didn't like it. She gave Maggie props though for continuing on with the duel.
Walking slowly in small sidesteps she was basically countering each step her opponent took with one of her own. Moving them both in a large slow circle. Her eyes never left the girl across from her. She knew a spell was coming and the fact that Maggie couldn't get the incantation out right away made it simple to cast a quick spell of her own. "Protego!," she recited firmly the shield springing up around her to protect her deflecting the blondes spell back at her.
Just as fast as the brunette had throw up the shield she cancelled it not even a moment later calling out the, "Jelly-Fingers Curse" as she did the wand movement. Right now all she was trying to do was finish this.

It was coming right at her and Maggie knew that it would be too late. Too late to even try and cast a protection spell. Even though she tried sort of sidestepping it, it didn't work. She could feel her wand flying from her hand and it made her feel like she'd just lost her most valuable possession. Which it probably was. Especially considering this was a DUEL.
A dueler without a wand was absolutely useless.
Despite the fact that she was now very much vulnerable to whatever spell Hady would send her way, Maggie bit her lower lip to stop herself from groaning in pain and started walking over to where her wand had landed on the floor. She didn't even look over to the other girl when she could hear her say yet another incantation. Her sole focus was on getting her wand ba-
Oh.
Not THIS spell! Maggie did groan then, but mostly out of frustration. She had JUST reached her wand and had slowly bent down to pick it up when the second spell hit her. No. Almost as if her whole body had decided that now everything was lost her knees just sort of gave in and she plopped down onto the ground next to her wand.
If only she could....somehow......scoop it up....she could....HA!
Somehow she'd managed to sort of roll the wand into her hand. Not that it would do her any good performing any complicated wand movements but one thing she could still sort of do. Point it at Hady. "Everte Statum!" It felt like it had become her signature spell over the past five minutes or so.
It was worth a try. Even though her aim might have been a little off.

Step to the left. Left. Slowly moving in a circle. Thankfully she was moving slowly or she might have been dizzy by now.
Her spells were spot on it seemed even with her movements to the side. A small smirk formed on her lips as Maggie's wand went flying from her hand. See it wasn't so nice losing the most important thing to you in a duel hmm? No. No it wasn't. She should know it had happened to her only moments earlier.
The Jelly-fingers curse had also landed on it's aimed target which made this a little more interesting. Hady was actually surprised thought with just how quickly the blonde was able to get her wand back into her hand and hold onto it. This earned a small nod of approval.
However she wasn't expecting something to be cast at her right away. Or well she was but not THAT SPELL. AGAIN!
Hady actually groaned as she tried to toss up a shield in time. "Prot-" Nope. Once again for the umpteenth time she was tossed backwards landing hard on the floor. OUCH! If her head, back and everything around there hadn't hurt before it most certainly did now! As she hit the ground her hand instinctively tightened around her wand but she didn't move. In fact she just laid there for more then she probably should've blinking her eyes once, twice.
No she couldn't lay there. A duel was a duel and she needed to get up. It didn't matter what hurt. Hady got onto her feet yet again her eyes locked on Maggie, hand grasping her wand firmly pointing at Maggie. With her free hand she pushed some stray hair off her face.

Raising his wand, the Astronomy professor shot a small golden firework up into the air that exploded with an enthusiastic BOOM and rained down upon Miss Lynch in a sparkling shower that vanished when the sparkles came in contact with her uniform.
"VICTORY TO HADLEIGH LYNCH!"
And sweet solstice was Miss Traulton alright? She was conscious at least.
"Can you stand, Miss Traulton?" he asked after scurrying over to the Slytherin's side with slightly flailing arms himself as he deliberated whether or not to scoop this one up as well.

And if that wasn't bad enough she was now sat on the floor crying. Even though she was trying SO hard not to but she just couldn't stop it. Now that the adrenaline from the duel was slowly subsiding the pain was getting almost unbearable. She tried to tighten her grip on her wand but found that she couldn't. Could somebody PLEASE get rid of that jelly-fingers spell??
Could she stand?
"Don't you think.....I would be....if I could?!" She replied quietly, eyes narrowed as she looked up at Professor Flamsteed. Did he think it was nice sitting here on the floor like a pathetic loser? She'd tried getting up. Of course she had. But even the smallest movement only made the pain worse.

Before anything else could happen there was golden sparkles raining down on her from above. What the?!
She was certain the fireworks weren't from Maggie and she quickly looked around. The announcement that she had WON somewhat took her by surprise. That was it. The Duel was over. Hady sent Professor Airey a small smile as she lowered her wand returning it to it's holster but not before casting a quick nearly silent 'finite' at the other girl to cancel her last spell. There was no danger left.
She was incredibly happy with the victory but she pushed her excitement aside for now and walked towards her friend. "Nice match Maggie," she gave a small grin extending her hand outwards to shake on it and of course help her friend to her feet. No hard feelings or anything right? "Do you need to see the healer? I can walk with you if you like or uh...go find Zeke if you like?" Yeah surely he was in the stands watching. She'd leave it up to Maggie. Hopefully the blonde knew she hadn't meant to drop her at all with that spell. Tears were never a good thing in a match.
